The order directs Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to take
all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department
of Education and return education authority to the States, also
directing that programs or activities receiving any remaining Department of
Education funds will not advance DEI diversity equity and inclusion

Speaker 11 (04:05):
Escalatessident Trump's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act is part
of his constitutional authority to protect the nation. That's the
argument the Justice Department's making. Appealing the federal judges decision
that blocked the administration from deporting suspected Venezuelan gang members
without hearings.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
The DOJ also alleged.

Speaker 11 (04:23):
That judge is not entitled to learn more about the
men deported, even though an ICE official acknowledged that many
of the men deported lack criminal records and were deported
on suspicion they might be gang members.

Speaker 3 (04:36):

Speaker 5 (05:29):
It's the best time of the year to be a
sports fan, as the NCAA Tournament is tipping off today
with sixteen games being played across the country. Ball Arena
hosting six of those games, four of them being played today,
and when the Wisconsin men take on Montana this morning,
it'll be a homecoming for one of the Bacher stars.

Speaker 13 (05:47):
Because of the transfer portal, there are more of these
reunion stories. John Tanjay played four seasons at CSU before
going to Missouri, then Wisconsin, and now he's fifty miles
from where it all began.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
You know, it brings back lett of memories.

Speaker 9 (05:59):

You are up to date on Colorado's morning news. This
newscast brought to you by Common Spirit Health. Coming up next,
Pat Woodard in with Business and money and news. See
what the Fed did about interest rates yesterday.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Let's take a look at your Thursday morning drive. We
go to Jonathan Steel and the Kiwa Traffic Center.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, we're hanging in there very well this morning with
light and volume springtime traffic apparently.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Of course, it's been that way all week long.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Heading to the airport's great fifteen minutes off of I
seventy to the terminal two T five. We got some
traffic a little bit heavier coming in from Parker, but
it's not like jammed up at all. Just reduce speeds
back to the interstate. There, I twenty five in it
out of tech centers, completely wide open. Looks like two
seventy some slight slowing now coming off I seventy six
east through York and I seventy six round eighty eighth

(07:06):
along with I twenty five out of thought and it's
going to be a little crowded coming into downtown, but
it's not really being held up too badly. East Bound
routes like six C four seventy still wide open. Also
Jonathan Steel on KWA eight fifty AM and ninety four
one FF.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Patwitard has more business and money news and Pat no
change in interest rates and a surge for the financial work.

Speaker 14 (07:27):
Does it always work out that way, does it? But
Federal Reserve chaired your own. Powell's comments at the end
of the fed's latest meeting certainly turned out to be
a tonic for Wall Street. Here's what he said.

Speaker 15 (07:37):
The economy is strong overall and has made significant progress
toward our goals over the past two years. Labor market
conditions are solid, and inflation has moved closer to our
two percent longer run going.

Speaker 14 (07:49):
That sounds suspiciously like we like what Powell always says,
So maybe it's what he didn't say that got the
markets excited.

Speaker 16 (07:56):
The Fed did the expected, leaving interest rates unchanged, but
they're continuing that weight and see approach. They just want
to see what the tariffs from the White House will
mean for the health of the economy and for inflation
in particular.

Speaker 14 (08:09):
And that is from ABC's Lexus Christoferos. So about those terriffs,
Powell did mention them, but he certainly didn't dwell on them.
Conistamir Khan with Ardent Advisory Group says Powell really kind
of made it clear he's not all that worried about
the tariffs sparking inflation.

Speaker 17 (08:24):
His confidence of saying, yes, it's a concern, but I
don't think that this will be a long term concern.
I think relieve the markets, and you saw that reaction
in the markets, that the markets were up.

Speaker 14 (08:35):
Certainly did that also in the likelihood of possibly two
interest rate cuts was the fuel for the surge.

Speaker 18 (08:41):
Now Jones rose three hundred and eighty three points and
was pushing back toward forty two thousand. The standard of
Hoors five hundred regained just over one percent. The nanced
that composite added one point four percent on the day.
It isn't clear whether he jumped or was pushed, but
Amtrak's CEO, Stephen Gardner is out as head of the
US passenger Railroad. House official tells Reuters that Gardner was

(09:02):
asked to step down after four years in his position.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Jim rilllyon ABC.

Speaker 14 (09:06):
News fire beware when you're shopping those liquidation sales at
retailers going out of business. Joanne Fabric and Crafts is
warning customers about fake websites as the company files for
bankruptcy and prepares to close all of its stores. Joann
dot Com is the company's only website, and while customers
can use it to browse and find the nearby stores,
online shopping is no longer available. The company says. If

Speaker 4 (09:41):
In KOA Sports.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
The Nuggets lost to the Lakers one twenty to one
O eight in Los Angeles. Denver was without Nikola Jokic,
who has a Bruce delbo and Jamal Murray, who has
a sprained ankle, while Lebron James didn't play for LA
Aaron Gordon led the Nuggets with twenty six points. Coach
Michael Malone, we got.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
A bus kicked over.

Speaker 19 (10:00):
We're all nineteen turnovers for thirty points. That's not going
to allow you to win many games, especially when you're
missing a couple of key players. But just got to
find a way to try to get healthy and go
up to Portland.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
The Nuggets fall to fourth place in the Western Conference.
Their West Coast road trip continues Friday night.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
They'll play against the Blazers.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
The Avalanche failed to extend their winning streak to three
games as they lost to the Maple Leafs two to
one in Toronto.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Coach Jared Bednar had some scoring chances to be able
to win the hockey game. There's only played good. We
kept going at the glove and you see Mike, he
just kind of dialed in on that. The Abs visit
the Ottawa Senators this evening.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
In spring training baseball, the Rockies lost to the Diamondbacks
one to nothing in a pitcher's duel.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
Manager Bud Black I thought everybody threw the ball.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Well did I really?

Speaker 18 (10:48):
Did you know?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
They hit their spots, they kept the ball down, they
moved the ball around.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
They change speeds.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Actually well, pitch game by both sides. Tonight the Rockies
play the Rangers on KOA. You can hear our coverage
beginning at six fifty five. The first round of the
NCAA Tournament starts today. There are four games at Ball Arena.
Wisconsin and Montana kick things off at eleven thirty, followed
by BYU and VCU.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
The evening session.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Starts at five twenty five with Texas A and M

Our social media.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Poll question today, out of those four games today in Denver,
which one are you looking forward to the most? You

Speaker 4 (11:38):
CSU's first round game is.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Tomorrow in Seattle as they play Memphis at noon, and
we will be talking with Susie Wargon about that game
coming up in just a few minutes. The Colorado women's

(12:03):
in the House. And the Broncos have signed a punter.
They have signed veteran Matt Hack. He played for the
Giants last season. I'm Chad Bauer on the Home of
the Broncos, Buffs and Rockies and KOA Sports today at
three Colorado's morning news.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
CooA News Time seven eighteen.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
It's not the weather, prompting a number of school closings
this morning. Some districts are canceling classes today as teachers
will be gathering outside the state capitol for a No
More Education Cuts statewide.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Day of action.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
The Colorado Education Association organized the event, expressing their concerns
over the potential funding cuts, which they say could lead
to reduce staffing and fewer resources to support students.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
President Trump expected to sign an executive order today aimed
at eliminating the Department of Education. Once the President makes
the move, he'll indirect Education Secretary Linda McMahon to take
all the steps necessary to begin the closure of the
DOE and return authority to individual states.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
And the Madness of March also bringing the madness of
ticket scams. Colorado Attorney General Phil Wiser says that scammers
will look to prey on the excitement of basketball fans,
trigging them into thinking they're getting a good deal, especially
on the resale market. He adds that using a trusted
website is the easiest way to protect yourself, and if
anything sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Coming up on Colorado's morning News, the Rams gearing up
for the NCAA tournaments in Seattle will go live to
our CSU Alum Susie Wrgin next.

Speaker 5 (13:32):
Jonathan Steele joining us now with a look at our
Thursday morning drive in the KWA Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
Yeah, a little slower on two seventy.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
It's probably about the biggest delay we have, if you
can call it a delay. It's fairly typical, but it's
heavier with slow and go both directions there out of
Commerce City in between I seventy six and I seventy
I seventy to the east actually is not too bad.
Coming west from Penya actually got pockets of slowing, but
just a little slight reduction of speeds there. Penya still
wide open heading two and from the airport I seventy

(14:01):
six busy west of I twenty five, in fact, is
starting to slow out towards Federal, but opens up two
I seventy if you're getting out through the Ravada wheat
Ridge area north ENDI twenty five. Just a little sluggish
from the Thornton Parkway coming into downtown, but remintaining good
speeds to and from the Tech Center two two five
is not too bad either. Get some slowing from Parker
coming in and right now we're problem free. Jonathan Steele

(14:22):
on KWA eight fifty am in ninety four ONEFM.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
KOA News time seven to twenty. It's Colorado's morning News.
Chad Bauer in for Marty Lens today alongside Gina Gondek.
Colorado State playing Memphis tomorrow in Seattle in the first
round of the tournament. The Rams are on a ten
game winning streak. That game with the Grizzlies tips at
noon tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
And heading to Seattle today.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Our favorite see isu alum oh, I probably shy in
that one KOA Susy origin joining us now on the
KWA Collaspirit all the hotline.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Good morning, Susie. Do we still ever?

Speaker 9 (15:00):
Did we lose it?

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Hello?

Speaker 20 (15:03):
Oh, I couldn't hear you guys at all. Sorry about that?
Say that I'm your favorite? What about money?

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Don't tell him that, Don't tell him that I'm kidding.
I'm kidding, Susie.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Tell us a little bit about what you think the
energy is going to be like. First off, have you
ever seen a CSU game in the n CUAA tournament before?

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Are losing your connection here?

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 20 (15:31):
Maybe you guys are going in and out on me.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Do you want to try to should you try to
call us, is that could be better?

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Give us give us a call.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Cool?

Speaker 3 (15:41):
And our second favorite su Alone all right, is going
to be uh in Seattle at the game as well,
and I know they're having all kinds of fun things
watch parties and such to get everybody pumped up. That
wasn't able to make the track because you, I mean,
it's a fast turnaround.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
You got to make your you know, your arrangements really fast.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
And that's what it sounded like. It took place for Marty.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
Lenz because he is off today conveniently off this week
for spring break.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Vacation, but then also secured.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
That ticket off to seatle and somehow secured tickets to
the game to be heading out today as well.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
It looks like we have Susie again.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
All right, Susie, uh, let's see.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
If we can make this work again.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
I'm asking you earlier, have you been to an NCAA tournament?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
We'll see as you before.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
What excitement can you expect in Seattle later tomorrow?

Speaker 20 (16:26):
Yes, great question, and sorry about our technology is great
till it's not right and then we just need to
use the phone. So yes, when I but I haven't
been as a fan, so when I was at my news.
I covered them when they went down to Louisville and
we're a one and done, but it was it was
a lot of fun just to go to that, even
to cover that, and it's so exciting just when you

(16:47):
think about the Big Dance and it's March Madness and
they're in that, and so it's cool to be there.
But I'm super excited to go as a fan and
not have to go and work it. So this is
a whole new experience for me.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
And will there be a benefit for CSU of playing
last year in last year's tournament or is it a
new year, new team, doesn't really matter what happened last year.

Speaker 20 (17:10):
Oh no, absolutely it's going to happen there a third
time being in the tournament in four years. So it
always helps to be in that situation because things change
a lot. And I mean we saw that with the
Broncos this year going to Buffalo. Right, they get in
the postseason and now those guys, all those young guys
have a taste of what it's like and so they
knew it's a different level when you get to another

(17:31):
you know, you get to the postseason or something. So
there's a lot of guys from last year's team that
are still here this year with the issues, So having
that experience last year is huge and sort of go
in this year. I think it can only help. And
I mean they opened up as two and a half
point favorites. That line has changed a little bit as
more people are starting to bet on it, but I
like their chances Memphis as one of their guys that's

(17:53):
probably going to be out, so we'll see what happens.
It's going to be a great matchup. And these are
always good seeds to watch too when you have these
matchups and it's kind of almost a pick them sometimes,
So I think they got a good chance tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yes, Suzie, that's the fun of March Madness. The CSU
is on that list most likely to be one of
those first round.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
Upsets and then everybody's brackets get busted and then they all.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Complain about it, and it's always an exciting time.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
But looking at Memphis a little bit, you touched on it,
what can we expect from them coming up tomorrow?

Speaker 20 (18:20):
You know they've got a great coach with Penny Hardaway
who and the Sun plays there too, and Kenny of
course an NBA legend as well. So they've got a
really good team over there. I'll be curious to see
how we match up. But I mean we've been to
a lot of games and watched all the ones throughout
the tournament, and Nico Medved for CSU, their head coach.
He is very good at figuring out matchups when something's

(18:44):
not working. He doesn't waste a lot of time changing
some things up. And we saw that happen in the
Mountain West Conference tournament where they came out a little
slow a couple of times, and so he just got
in there, you know, put some other guys in that
were off the bench, and then suddenly sparks were flying
and shots were falling in So he is quick to
maneuver some things around and figure out what's going to

(19:04):
work the best for the Rams.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Away Susie Warden talking about tomorrow's CSU Memphis game in
Seattle the NCAA tournament. Thanks for joining us, Susie, and
enjoy the game as a civilian.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yeah, Pavilion, I like that, Thanks, Susie. Tell Marty said, Okay,
we'll do.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
The newscast coming up next right after we check on
traffic from the KAA Traffic Center. Here's Jonathan Steele.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, it's still very quiet right for us here up
in Broomfield. There is a crash. This is going to
be at one hundred twentieth and Main Street. It's going
to be westbound coming into the Broomfield area, just a
little bit the east of the US thirty six interchange,
and it looks like it is going to be backing
up quite a bit through there. Just came in, but
already seeing some delays. North end I twenty five starting

(19:52):
to bog down a little bit down from one hundred
and fourth. Looks like two seventy still pretty much slow
and go out of a commerce city east side of
my seventy build nicely.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
Coming from Panya.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
We're not really seeing any delays there two two five
around Parker that's bogging down, and we're just starting to
see a little surge of volume heading down to and
from the Denver Tech Center. Dropped the steel on KWA
eight fifty am in ninety four ONEFM
