He says, by that time, though there was little his
officers could do. National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez
Tho accuses police of being political and not doing their
part to protect the public.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
When they put their communities at risk. I don't care
what the person escaped for. If there's an escapeee, every
law enforcement officer should be out there searching. That's what
we do. We want to do that. We want to
serve and protect our communities. And for the decisions to
be made at the top to say we're not going
to help, that's politics.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
That it's worse.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Chamberlain insists it's a federal matter and there's little that
local police can do since state law forbids them from
getting involved in federal immigration matters. The two men still
have not been found.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
The man is hospitalized in critical condition following an officer
involved shooting in Denver last night. We get more on
this story live from Koa's State of Kale.

Speaker 8 (02:06):
The call came in just after six twenty. Officers arrived
probably less than ten minutes later, immediately contacted him, and
for you know, a minute or so, we're engaged in
conversation with him, seeing the weapon, you know, trying to
convince him to drop that.
Speaker 7 (02:23):
Weapon, Officers say, Instead, the man raised the gun toward
them and they opened fire.
Speaker 4 (02:28):

The teachers we.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Spoke to say, while they hate for kids to miss
a day of school, it is important to fight for
funding for our public schools.
Speaker 10 (03:38):
Our budgets get cut, our kids get further robbed. And
if you look at Colorado's funding, we are number forty
eight on the list, which is insane for a state
that tries to put itself out there as like an
educated like a hub for people to come to.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
More than one hundred schools were closed for the day
after thousands of teachers called in. The rally came On
the same day, the President Trumps signed and executive order
that could lead to the eventual shutdown at the US
Department of Education. Colorado lawmakers have mixed feelings about that order.
Democratic Senator Michael Bennett called the President's order outrageous, saying
the decision will affect the most vulnerable students. Republicans Thoe

return education decisions to the States could help empower parents, students,
and teachers.

First of all, let's get another check on traffic from
the Koa Traffic Center.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Here's Jonathan Steele.
Speaker 11 (04:40):
Yeah, just getting another look up into the High Country
for anyone that may be heading to their favorite resorts
this morning. Brecketridge, Keystone, Vail, Loveland. The roads are looking
pretty good. It was partially snow packed up at the
divide early on, but the plows have done a wonderful job.
It looks mainly just wet, sloppy, certainly slushy and icy
around the edge is but not too adverse at all.
(05:02):
And the restrictions that we have had chain laws I
think have been lifted, so heading up looks good with
no delays here in town.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
I think the.

Update on Business and Money News with pat Winard Pat.
The shutdown of one of the world's busiest airports is
putting a variety of companies into crisis mode.
Speaker 12 (05:36):
Travel agencies, airlines, tour operators, cargo carriers. The list goes on,
but they're all now in positions of having to demonstrate
to their paying customers how they handle a crisis. That
crisis is the closure of London Heathrow Airport because of
a fire at an electrical substation. So far not so
good for travelers like John Moriarty and the companies that
(05:57):
he uses for travel.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I've called Delta and all the lines are busy, so
they're not answering. I just called the American Express Travel
to see if they can help.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I'm waiting.
Speaker 13 (06:07):
All the lines are busy.
Speaker 12 (06:09):
It's not clear when London Heathrow will reopen, or how
long it'll take to reroot all the flights, and how
much it's going to cost the airlines and other providers
there are flights between Denver and Heathrow that are either
canceled or in the process of being re routed. Another

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Good luck with that.
Speaker 12 (07:00):
Mark Eldman is the owner of Strategic Wealth Solutions.
Speaker 13 (07:04):
As the last quarter twenty twenty four, Creig card bounces
actually surpassed one point one seven trillion dollars nationwide, which
is a record, and a lot of that is born
out of the fact that a number of consumers are
not keeping up with the rate of inflation and just
the cost of day to day living.
Speaker 12 (07:20):
Has left unchecked, credit card debt can become an almost
insurmountable problem for many Americans. Right now on Wall Street,

So you're going to see us play.
Speaker 13 (08:44):
At a little bit of a different case, a little bit.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Of a different way. We're going to have to We're
gonna have to deal with a little bit of a
longer athlete, a little bit of a taller athlete.

Speaker 15 (09:13):
Pain overall execution of the defensive game plan was really good.
Not too many possessions where we really weren't trying to
do what we had talked about in preparation.

Top seed of Colorado will now host.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
Fourth seeded Gonzaga Sunday at one. The University of Denver

Coach Jared bednar.
Speaker 16 (09:50):
Feld, We're doing a lot of good things offensively, getting
to the net, created rebounds, lots of deflections, pretty good
looks from umbrella and then the slaw, so you have
to be pretty happy with that for the competitiveness.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
And execution here Tonight.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
The Abs play the Canadians in Montreal Tomorrow. Nights in

Denver's auditor says the city is still not properly tracking
expenses related to homeless programs. Auditor Timothy O'Brien said he
told the city government two years ago that it needs
to improve expense tracking so the effectiveness of homeless initiatives
can be measured. However, he said that only six of
the thirty six recommendations he made in twenty twenty three
have been fully implemented by the city.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
Traveling headaches for one of the world's busiest airports, London's
Heathrow Airport closed all day to day after an electrical
fire causing a widespread power outage, and that's affecting hundreds
of thousands of passengers across the globe.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Another scary moment in the skies, A Southwest Airline flight
had to abort its takeoff from the Orlando Airport yesterday
after a pilot mistakenly began to depart on a taxiway
rather than a runway. Taxiways are paths used by pilots
to move planes between the runways and the terminals. Southwest
said the plane stopped safely and returned to the gate.
No one was injured, but the NTSB is investigating.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
And he was a gossip columnist that was always worth reading.
Speaker 17 (11:34):
Former Rocky Mountain News columnist Norm Clark has passed away
in Las Vegas. Clark started working for the Las Vegas
Review Journal newspaper in nineteen ninety nine and told the
paper he will always want to be remembered first. As
a reporter, Clark was known for his friendly disposition and
his black eye patch.

March madness and exciting time for both plays and broadcasters alike.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
We'll hear from some of them coming up next.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
First, let's get another check on our Friday traffic from
the Koa Traffic Center.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Here's Jonathan Steel.
Speaker 11 (12:10):
Yeah, your a Boulder Turnpike looks pretty good this morning.
The only real slow down is just coming out of
Broomfield through Superior. Then as you descend down the hill
into Boulder it opens up beautifully, but it's not really jam,
just slightly sluggish. Two seventy is probably about the heaviest
drive both directions there out of Conmers City, kind of
sluggish east side of my seventy anywhere between Penya and
two seventies a little bunched up, and of course eastbound
(12:32):
seventy at Colfax since I mentioned that construction zone out
there to the east side, just a little bit west
of E four seventy still holding up. The drive two
to five around Parker just a little busy, but I
twenty five has been pretty good. There's some slowing coming
south into downtown in northbound twenty five to eastbound seventy
the ramp, there's backing up the right lane to about

We've been chronicling the journey of student broadcasters who've come
to announce the NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament games here
at Ball Arena and Koways.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
Rob Dawson caught up with the broadcast crews from Wisconsin
and VCU.
Speaker 18 (13:14):
It was a mad dash for these student broadcasters to
get to Denver, but Wisconsin's WSUM made the truck. Vince
Testbrook and David Jardine already.
Speaker 19 (13:24):
Been excused for my profession to go out of classes
going to Marshmallow so and solid on backside here to
cover myself.
Speaker 20 (13:30):
Bolls, Right, Yeah, I had to push an exam earlier
in the league to come here.
Speaker 18 (13:33):
When I met them, they were about to head through
the tunnel onto the court.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Would just being here is incredible.
Speaker 19 (13:38):
But just talk to the media folks in here and
that we're going to be court signed for the game.
It's like, you know, it's just when I got to
Madison Open, I could just get a game or two somewhere.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
So to be here really is a dream CoA true.
Speaker 18 (13:47):
You've got forty five to fifty thousand students at your
square and you're the two that are kind of like
the voice of the students.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Well, it feels like a bit of an hour, to
be honest.
Speaker 19 (13:58):
Just obviously at matas to be quite a couple of folks,
But you know, we just gonna have this inner circling
to almost say of the folks are interested in the
sports broadcasting side and the fact that yeah, it's my
buddy David, and I mean, you couldn't have been more
thankful than.
Speaker 18 (14:09):
We are right now when you stepped on the campus,
either as a freshman or whenever.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
I mean if you think you could do this.
Speaker 21 (14:15):
Yeah, I'm not even a journalism major. I'm not really
a broadcast like, it's not my profession. But I love
talking about sports, and these guys have accepted me and
brought me in.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
It's just a great group and it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 18 (14:27):
This technology is old hat, you know, not everybody your
age likes to be a part of radio or audio
or call the game without being on TV or something.
What do you think about that? This is a little
old fashioned in some of God, yes, maybe it's gonna make.
Speaker 19 (14:42):
Me like an old man, but just kind of brings
you back to me with like my grandpa and the
car driving the church and you're Matt Lape over the
radio the Badger announcers. So now being that voice and
like being able to do that more intimate radio side,
it really is the best meeting around.
Speaker 18 (14:56):
While Vincent David were on the mic for their game,
I had a chance to talk up with the guys
at wvcw of VCU before theirs Ben Ricos and Marcus Larry.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
It's really cool.
Speaker 21 (15:07):
I mean, I've this is my favorite event every year.
I'm a huge sports fan. In marsh Madness that skipped
school for days just to watch this tournament.
Speaker 22 (15:14):
I've been watching March Madness forever. I love sports, I
love broadcasting, and it's my dream to call big games
like this.
Speaker 18 (15:22):
And unlike schools with many students having to share and
rotate assignments among the games, Ben and Marcus have been
with the Rams every step of the way. You have
this arena behind you, You've watched this on TV for
so many years. What is it going to be like
when you turn around and go in there?
Speaker 21 (15:38):
Being in in an NBA arena is always special, right.
This is the arena we've seen Nicole Jyokic get triple
doubles in for.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
The past what seven or eight years.
Speaker 21 (15:46):
He's one of the greatest players of this generation of basketball.
Speaker 22 (15:50):
Being here obviously Joki just the next MVP of the
NBA and in my opinion, and so it's really cool
to just be in the same building that he's established
greatness where VCU is set to take on the BYU Tuber.
Speaker 21 (16:03):
Championship on Sunday against George Mason. They also won the
regular season.
Speaker 18 (16:08):
Announcing every game together I means spending time with one
another at home and on the road.
Speaker 21 (16:14):
Well, not only are we you know, broadcast partners, but
we're roommates. We share the same apartment, and we're best friends.
So that's obviously really cool. Like every person, there's some
pros and cons to every relationship, and I think that,
you know, there's no one I'd rather be doing with
than the person who I left right now.
Speaker 22 (16:31):
I didn't know Ben before I came to VCU, but
calling games with Ben, I'm not the most knowledgeable when
it comes to basketball. I grew up on football and lacrosse,
and so having the guy to my right when I'm
trying to do play by play and I don't really
understand all the terminology, Ben's always there to, you know,
kind of pick up the stuff that I don't know,
(16:52):
and vice versa.
Speaker 18 (16:53):
And one day they hope to move a few seats
down in the arena, there'd be where Adam Epstein is
today pregame and postgame on the VCU radio network.
Speaker 20 (17:03):
I think it's so cool that they get to do this,
and they still have years to come, right So I
know Ben is only twenty, right, so he might be
able to do this two more years at VCU. And
so that's what it's all about, is making the most
of your experience out here.
Speaker 18 (17:17):
And while the student voices will soon leave Denver, they'll
always remember covering March Madness.
Speaker 21 (17:23):
Marshall, Almos, Vincent Hesprick, David Jardina, Benricosh, Marcus Larry ksdtwsum

Just take a look at your drive. We go to
Jonathan Steel in the KA Traffic Center. No, you have
Cruz starting to work in the foothills.
Speaker 11 (17:51):
This will be day long with delays down Floyd Hills
already starting there into the Veteran Memorial Tunnels, and I'm
sure they'll do rock lasting, which closes the highway at
twenty minute periods.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
At a time.
Speaker 11 (18:01):
And of course west on US six, this is up
Clear Creek Canyon west of Golden already seeing some delays developing.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
City traffic's been pretty good.
Speaker 11 (18:09):
We do have some slowing on two seventy, especially west
out of Commerce City, east side of my seventy out
near Colefax. Some construction work that's been holding up the drive.
A little bit two two five also around Parker, but
I twenty five.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
It is not too bad.
Speaker 11 (18:21):
There's some pockets of slowing across the city, but nothing
that's going to hold you up too badly. Jonathan Steel
