Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bob Do Do Do Do Do Do. Hey, y'all, it's
Denise's podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well today, ladies, it's all about you. We are going
to network. Right around the corner September twelfth, there's a
Women in Business conference and I'm going to be your MC.
So I decided to have two of the ladies on
the podcast today to talk about what you're going to learn,
who you're going to meet. It's just going to be
a fun day. The theme is women on the Move,

(00:28):
Powerful and Unstoppable. And one of my really good friends
who I've known for many, many years, Debbie Wayne. She's
the advertising and marketing director for the John Elway Dealership Group.
She's proud to represent the dealership as the chair for
the Women in Business Leadership Team for the South Metro
Denver Chamber.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Hi, Debbie, Hello, Hello, my friend, how are you? I
am fabulous and I am so excited about this event.
I'm honored that you're going to host it with us
for the second year and I can't wait eight to
tell you about these speakers that we've contracted and to
talk with Gina from the Village Workplace.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yes, that leads us to Gina Shrek, who's going to
be one of the panelists. She's the founder CEO of
the Village Workspace, which is absolutely beautiful. She recently expanded
Village work Wellness and Events Center. It's just how coworking
should feel.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
How you doing, Gina, Hi, I'm doing great.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Great to be here with both of you.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, you have quite the resume.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I mean, you're ranked number five in the world for
the top thirty Internet marketing Global Gurus.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Girl, it's like.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Those are my old days. Now I've shifted from marketing
and now I'm focused on coworking and now you know,
it's one of those things you start from scratch, building
a new business and starting over.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
So it's been exciting.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
That leads into your book, changing directions and starting from scratch.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
How long ago did you write that.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
It just came out. I think three weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Congratulations.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Thanks, Yeah, it's exciting.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
We're going to deep dive more into your story in
just a moment, but I want to talk a little
bit to Debbie to kind of get the nuts and
bolts of this big event that's right around the corner. Debbie,
has it been two or three years that you've been
involved with women in business?

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Two I've been the chair for just this past year,
but I've been sitting on the leadership team for two
years now and it is a phenomenal group of women
and this conference is our big event of the year.
It's on September twelfth, and I'm so excited. One of
our members has a connection with the Kimpton Clarette Hotel

(02:40):
in DTC. It's a brand new hotel, brand new, and
we are going to be one of their biggest events
for their launch of the hotel. Oh and it's beautiful.
Wait till you all see the It's a rooftop bar
on the nineteenth floor called Halo. They have been incredible

(03:03):
to work with and I can't tell you how excited.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
I well, I can't wait to see it, and I'm
certainly honored to be the MC. I know we have
a beautiful panel lined up again. The event September twelfth,
eight am to five pm. Tickets are now on sale.
I want to encourage you to go to the Chambers
website and get those tickets right now. Best Chamber dot com,

(03:28):
Best Chamber dot com, because this is going to be
a great chance and a great opportunity to not only
network with these incredible women, but to learn more, especially
if you are starting from scratch. We're going to talk
to Gina about here in just a little bit. But Debbie,
before we get to Gina, let's talk about the panel
that you have.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, we actually because of the support of Pinnacle Advanced
Primary Care they're are presenting sponsor, we were able to
actually lock in a keynote speaker, Kristin Goodwin. She is
a retired Brigadier general from the Air Force. This woman
is a powerhouse. She is going to help our attendees

(04:10):
find and bring their own Delta force to their lives
and their business. She's done just incredible things. She's the
first woman bomb wing commander of the United States Air
Force and she has blown eight different bombers. Now, if
that woman can do this, think of what she's going

(04:31):
to bring to us.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
She's an international speaker and executive coach, so she has
a lot to teach us.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
She has and she knows how to manage her not
only her business on the level that the Air Force
brought her being a brigadier general, down to a family
because she has two small children, so she knows what
women go through on the mega level to the very
personal level. And she is going to bring the Delta

(05:03):
to this conference. So excited about her.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I'm excited to learn more from her and to deal
with the stress every day that we have and anxiety
and juggling life and work. And she definitely is going
to have some key points. If she can fly a
bomber plus take care of kids at the same time
she has her stress and anxiety and.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Checks, it's amazing. And then I'll tell you about our
breakout speakers. We have Ali Spray, she is the CEO
and president of the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado. And then
Kendra Prospero, she is the CEO and founder of Turning
the Corner, which is an HR human resources consulting firm.

(05:46):
I had the privilege of interviewing these two ladies with
several of our leadership team, and we all were taking
notes just from us talking to them about what they
would present. We all want away with things and we've
been the leadership team has been at several different events
together and we will look at each other in the

(06:08):
event and we will think of things that we pulled
out of these interviews with Ali and Kendra. These are
going to be phenomenal speakers that are going to help
you reward the language that you use. They're going to
help motivate you and help you find ways to really

(06:29):
move not just your business forward, but your personal life.
I'm so excited about both of them. They bring totally
different aspects. Ali was born in Guadalajara. Kendra has she
has a straightforward approach to keeping employees engaged and how
you can engage yourself really in your world. She's fabulous.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
That's why you need to get tickets right now. Get
it at best Chamber dot com. Again, the website is
best Chamber dot com. You're not going to get another
opportunity to meet women like this, different powerhouses, and that
could really help you, not only career wise, but on
a personal level too. Now let's get to the afternoon panel, Debbie.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
We have three people on our panel, and Jana is
one of them. I'm going to talk about Susie Wargen
and Nikita first. Susie Wargen is one of our panels.
She's the Bronco Radio sideline reporter for KOA and on
The Fox too one oh three five The Fox. I
have known Susie for a very long time. She you know,

(07:33):
there's something about being a sports reporter and having the
Broncos as being their key reporter. She has worked her
way through the ranks in a male populated world that
she just has a different way of looking things. She's
also a mother of twenty year old children. She's just

(07:56):
done so much in Denver. I think she'll just bring
a lot to the table and questions that all of us,
would you know, have for how did she move up
in the ranks, things like that.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Not only in radio, but she also used to work
at nine News as a sports report, so she's done
television too. She'll be able to speak from both mediums
and answer any questions.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, you and her have such similar experiences in that industry.
I just think that that we'll have great questions to
ask of Susie and of you. And then Nikita, the
owner of Blush. She sets on our women and leadership team,
and she brings such a great perspective. She's a young mother,

(08:40):
she's an entrepreneur. Blush is a on remote hair and
makeup company where they will come to you. They'll they'll
not only style you for events and make you look amazing,
but they can also just come do haircuts and colors
and things like that, to your homework, whatever's convenient for you.

(09:00):
And Nikita literally just expanded her company. So she started
in Colorado and she's expanded into another state that she
doesn't even reside in, so she knows what that means.
And she's also tried to do it all herself and
realized that she had to outsource some of the things

(09:22):
for her business. And I think that that brings a
really unique perspective to what a lot of solopreneurs or
small businesses are having to go through, and she can
talk to that. And then there's Gina, who I met
through the chamber and the first time I heard her speak,
it was at the Village Workspace. Her story just blew

(09:46):
me away.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
It blew me away too.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Gina, your book is changing directions and starting from scratch,
and that's exactly what you did. You spent most of
your life in marketing and then you decided, you know what,
I'm going to open up the Village work Wellness and
event center and it's really successful.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Congratulations, We started completely over in an industry I knew
nothing about, you know, I think this is the key for.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
A lot of businesses. Build a business that you would
love to be a customer of and I was my
own ideal customer, and so we built it with all
the amenities that I would want. And I just kept thinking, Okay,
if I love these things, surely there are other people
out there that want a fitness center at a yoga

(10:29):
studio and a podcast and media room and nap room
alongside your workspace.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
It's like a dream come true. Plus a coffee bar.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Right, what's a coffee bar? Yeah, there's there. I always
say you could live here. There's food, there's workout, there's showers,
there's locker rooms and nap room.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I like the nap room, the nathroom.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
I want to encourage you to stop by the Village
Workspace and check it out. But let's get to the agenda.
Let's talk about self development for women. Why is that
important to you?

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Every single person has to commit to learning something every
day if you want to stay as a leader in
your industry. And you know, so many people talk about
becoming an influencer, but really you should become the authority
in your industry. Not just an influencer, but you should
be the authority, the one that people go to. And
I think when it comes to self development, The way

(11:20):
to do that is you've always got to be putting
effort and time and commitment into developing your skills, developing
you know, just your knowledge base as well as your network.
So important.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
That leads me to the next question, Gina, Because you're
really involved in the community, what does that mean to you?

Speaker 4 (11:37):
I mean, I again, I feel like every day I'm
meeting amazing people and we learn from each other, we
support each other. So the bigger your community is, the
stronger your own personal I always say your net worth
is really a direct coalition to your network. And you know,
the bigger your network and stronger your network, get in

(11:58):
and provide value. And in your community, how are you
providing value? Not just what can I do to get
something from people, but you know, where are you supporting?
Where are you getting involved? And here, we do a
lot with nonprofits organizations that are just doing incredible work
in the world, and we want to look at how
can we come alongside and help them do bigger things.

(12:21):
So I think that's part of my commitment in the
community is just coming alongside these incredible nonprofits and finding
out how we can gather others who want to do good,
but they don't know how, so we can help them
plug into some of the nonprofits here.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Again, you should check out the Village Work, Wellness and
Events Center if you want to self develop and build
your community network. It's a great place to start and
you can build a community there and really focus on
what you want to do your passion in life. Ladies,
I want to ask you both this. Gina, We'll start
with you, what does work life balance look like for you?

Speaker 4 (12:58):
I always say worst person to ask you is I
have no balance. But my children aren't grown. But when
my kids were young, I loved having a career and
which is why I started my own business back in
ninety five. But I love having a career that allows
me to make the choices that I want to make,
and that might mean, you know, going to soccer games,

(13:20):
you know, in the middle of the day. But now
that my kids are all grown, you know, my husband
and I take a lot of amazing trips and travel
and spend a lot of time together. But I work
a lot, but I love what I do, So my
boundaries are very blurry.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
And that's okay because that works for you. You have to
do what works for you.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yours may look different Debbie, what does your work life
balance look like. I know you're passionate about marketing, coaching others,
and fitness.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Yeah, I will tell you I would piggyback off of
what Gina said. My work life balance I find to
be pretty easy because I love what I do. I
am the advertising marketing director for the l Way Group,
but I also have a life coaching business. I also
have other side things that I am working on to

(14:11):
fulfill my dreams of being able to continue to work
and enjoy life. And I think that that's what Gina
touched on is that yes, she works hard, but now
her and her husband can do these great trips, she
can spend time with her grandchildren and her children because
she did work hard in the beginning. And I think

(14:34):
that by going to this conference, you're going to have
three amazing speakers that you will get to watch individually,
and then you'll have a panel of women that can
talk about this too. I'm not going to be unrealistic
and say that my work life balance is ideal. I'm

(14:54):
kind of like Gina. My work life balance works for me.
And when you come and you live listen to Kristen
and Ali and Kendra they're going to give you ideas
on how you can implement what they're going to share
with you into your life to have it work for
you too.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
And that's why the theme is women on the Move,
Powerful and Unstoppable.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
That's a perfect theme, Debbie.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
The leadership team is so wonderful and coming up with
a great theme, finding speakers that are going to support
that theme, finding a panel of women that relate to
all different types of women. They're all in different stages
in their life. And this is an all day conference,
so it starts at eight with networking. It begins at

(15:41):
like nine o'clock. We'll have a happy hour from four
to five where well you'll get to be entered into
a drawing for some great gift baskets from our sponsors.
You have to go to best Chamber dot com and register.
The one thing about this conference is that the Kinton
is new and you can only sell one hundred and

(16:01):
eighty tickets. It's a very limited amount of seats and
we're already over one hundred, so if you don't get
in now, you might not get in, So buy your
tickets today.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
It's September twelfth, eight am to five pm. Go to
the website Best Chamber dot Com presenting sponsor, Pinnacle Advanced
Primary Care. Thank you so much, ladies, Debbie and Gina.
I can't wait to learn more. It's going to be
an exciting day and we want to be you in person,
So get those tickets right now. Go to best chamber
