Speaker 1 (00:00):
We gotta getting new open for this show. A thing
goes hot around. We are alongside Aaron Anderson from Creative
Construction Wisconsin. This is the Creative Construction Wisconsin home improvement
show on Fox Sports ninet twenty and your iHeart Radio
app coming live from the Donovan and Jordanston Heating and
Cooling Studios. I think we've all had pretty interesting mornings. Man.
(00:21):
What's going on, Aaron? I'm glad you made it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Started the morning off by digging my digging my tire
out of a snow drip to find out it's completely flat,
completely flat. So my wife doesn't know it yet, but
I took her car.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Well, I don't tick her off because it wouldn't for her,
this show wouldn't even be on the air exactly. So Sam,
sorry about that. If you think you're going to the
grocery store, take the horse, You're not getting it. You're
not going anywhere, that's for sure. Hey, I'm looking forward
to today's show. We've never had anybody on from Washaw
Supply Company. And Ryan McDermott. This yere, Ryan, How are
(00:55):
you good?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
How are you good?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Pronounce your last name?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I'm McDermott.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
McDermott. I was, hey, how long you've been at wash
House Supply?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Been just coming up on four years, and you would be.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
What's called a siding specialist, correct.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
I work with all the local builders, contractors, architects. Basically
I cover from if you take a line at Manchauca
and draw it down on the lower half of the state.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okayas to us. And grew up in Kenosha. Yes, did
you know that this was kind of the industry you
wanted to be in? You know?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Out of high school, I you know, tink it around
with a four year college and it just wasn't for me.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
And we we knew.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Our family friend was an electrician and got me involved
in a non union shop, you know. So it was
kind of learning at my own pace. And I was
there for about seven years, and then it hit hard
when the economy crashed, you know, no eight, so I
pivoted and went to I got an opportunity to go
to Minarts as outside sales, So that's kind of where
I started my outside sales and then moved up the
(01:56):
ladder and I was at Minarts for about eleven years
and made the pivot to Washaw Supply. So It's kind
of like you know, once you're in the industry, you
don't get out, and but there's so many options and
roads you could take within that industry.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
So well, Wassaw and I didn't realize how many states
you guys you're in. I also didn't know until you
started doing some prep work for the show. One d
per employee owned, so you're one of the employee, you're
one of the owners. Correct, Well, it's a supply, you know.
It's interesting. Donovan Jorgensen sponsors the studio here Donovan Jorgensen
Heating and Cooling and been working with those guys for
(02:33):
a long time. And the impressive part to me is
there they're the largest employee owned HVAC company in the
state of Wisconsin. So when somebody comes out to fix
your hvac, it's one of the owners and that sets
them apart from any of their competitors, similar to what
Washaw Supply.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Is absolutely well.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It gives you a level of accountability and responsibility.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
You know, you care about the product you want to
put out.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
You want to be the best reason source you can
uh not only to represent WESA Supply, but to benefit
yourself in the long run because you know, being an
ESOP program, it just lets you focus more on retirement
and the advantages you could have by being an employee owner.
So you put, I don't want a little bit extra effort,
(03:20):
you know, because you care more.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I agree with that one hundred percent. You know. I
look when you were at Minarga, I'm sure you did
a great job. You did. This adds a little something
to it because look, if somebody has a problem, you're
one of the owners, right, and you can say, hey, listen,
here's here's what this means with with me being one
of the owners of the company that I work for,
(03:42):
And I think you're right. I think that that you
got to up your games just a little bit, and
not only with with you know, the service. And look
on your website for your mission statement for this company
is safety, service, innovation, and integrity. And and I would
think that as one of them and one of the owners,
integrity is so important to to who you guys are
(04:06):
in the core value of what.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Was absolutely you know we do.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
We just came off a national sales meeting. We all
went to Minneapolis, and it was could they.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Have done it in South Carolina?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:19):
You know, you know it could have taken you out
to Idaho or something.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Right, right, but it was great, you know, and you
just get to see everybody you know that you don't
see on a daily basis outside of your region. That
you know, we heard from upper management and their visions
and they really take into account the employees' visions as well.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
We're you know, innovation.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
You gotta constantly be innovating, you know, otherwise you get
lost in this industry and also supplied there's a fantastic
job of that. Well, is why we partner with like
organizations like NARI, where you know, we go to these
spring shows and we're there as a resource. You know,
we're not we're not going to go and you know,
try to make a bid for these homeowners. But we're
(05:04):
there simply to educate and you know, there's plenty of
other resources they have there at the NARRI Spring show
to get that information, but we're simply there to you know,
inform and educate and make them aware of you know,
our products.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Well, and we're going to talk a lot about the
twenty twenty five Spring Home Improvement Show, the Milwaukee Nearing
Nary Milwaukee Spring Home Improvement Show going on this weekend
and Spencer our producer instead of course it's snowing today
because it's an eary weekend. Yeah, it seems like it's
snows every single.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Narry, every single time.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
You know, Aaron, what what What's impressive to me? With
Washedaw's Supply. Look, Donovan Jorgenson, the same thing. They're celebrating
forty years in business this year, Donovan Jorgenson. Washington's Supply
established in nineteen forty seven. And the company that you
work for and you married into, and look it's a
family owned company, sixth generation. So it's it's there's a
(05:58):
lot of synergy between the three companies we're talking about
right now. If you've been around that long, you're doing
something right.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I think you have to be. I don't think you
surviving this world if you're not doing something right.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah, I agree you You did not get down to
the Narrow Show yesterday. You're you're kind of in Madison nowadays.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Huh Yeah, I'm been excommunicated to Madison for a while.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
If you you've been standing up there going home and
going home every.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Night a mixture, I kind of judge at a base
off how my daughter's feeling. So when when I get
a FaceTime call for and the first thing she says
is Daddy, come home done. Then guess what the next week,
I'm driving and driving back and forth every day.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
How old is she?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
She is a little bit over to.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Think about your life three years ago and what your
life is like, right, I mean, yeah, look, if Sam
said come home, you'd be like, well, well you'll be okay,
I'll come home tomorrow. But your daughter's just come home.
You're like, all right, I'll see you in an hour
and a half.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, I mean three years ago, I would have I
would have just stayed up there, work seven days a
week to get it done and been that. But I
gotta come home spend some time.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Randy. Are you a family guy?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I am. I have a wife and two kids at home.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
What is your wife's name? I'm Maryland, Maryland and what
are your kids names? Grantee seven and Callen is for Kallen.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yes, I have a grandson Callum okay, but yours is
Callen Kllen.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
It's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Stuck with the Irish theme, you.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Know, Michael McGivern and McDermott. Yeah, that's you're kind of Irish.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Right, I'm part Irish and I think my last name
is Scottish.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well that's too bad. At the first break, you're not
going to hear it any more of Aaron Anderson. You
can't be camp be in A big part of what
why you're here today, Ryan, is this the Nary show
that's going on this weekend at State for a park
And again we're going to talk a lot about it
and how you can get tickets and things like that.
(07:52):
But you guys are are involved with the greenhouse growth
project and what did you guys supply for that?
Speaker 4 (07:59):
So I supplied the majority of the siding for most
of the high schools. You know, eight high schools were involved.
I think I supplied six.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And it was.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Just from start to finish, you know, a great process
to watch these kids learn and ask questions. I visited
multiple high schools, you know, to help with the original
install and if they had any questions or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
So it was great all the way around.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
So and this is more of I guess a business question.
Why is it important? And look looking at your website,
I understand you know when you read about about us
and they talk a little bit about the integrity and
the service and innovation, safety. But why is it important
for a company like wash House Supply to be able
to hand off and help and donate product so high
(08:49):
school kids can can get the job done?
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Well just just think you know, of course it's good
for exposure, but it's more about helping and trying to
grow interest in the trades because you know, I think
as it's getting better, but you know, the stigma was
always there where you know, you want to go to
a four year school, but there's so many options for
these kids. You know, we want to get them excited
and you know involved in the trades, you know, not
(09:15):
just from exterior cliding side, but you know from the
building side, and there's so many options that you could do.
And it's been great to partner with Narry and be
part of this and watch these kids grow because honestly,
everyone from start to finish was engaged, asked great questions and.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Really you know, took pride in what they were doing.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
And that's kind of the message I relayed to them
was you can step back now and say I did
that right, and that's you can't do that a lot
in a lot of industries.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
You know, I agree with that your industry and you're
a siding specialist. Has really changed over the years. I
remember as a younger person, the big siding, right, there
was about three colors and that was it. That's all
you had. Those are your options. Well, Randy Miller came
(10:03):
years ago and did the siding at our house when
we lived over on eighty eighth Street. And when he
came over to talk about what the siding would look like,
basically he kicked me out of the kitchen because he
dealt with my wife. And sure they did a great
phenomenal job. I couldn't believe how many different options were
all of a sudden, And I'm like, you got to
(10:24):
be kidding me, and he's like, no, there's it's blowing up.
How many different kinds of yeah, different colors, different sizes, Right,
it got like, all of a sudden, nobody wanted the
real big ones. They wanted the smaller ones. And now
is it going back a little bit?
Speaker 4 (10:39):
You know, it's a mixture of everything. You know, obviously
our standard lap siding six eight and twelve inch exposures,
so you know, I mean you can mix.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
And what's the most popular eight inch?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
But we're seeing a lot you know that you can
mix and match people are doing some six twelve. You know,
it's definitely more tedious on the install side, but the
finished product looks great, and we actually have that on
our booth. So we have display walls of different styles,
you know, our board and bat and our shake, you know,
all twenty eight colors that we offer. And then you
know obviously we custom color too as well. So I mean,
(11:12):
the options are endless.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Do you know what?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
In fact you'll you'll enjoy this. Do you know the
second that Randy Miller from all Right Home Violin kicked
me out of my own kitchen when I said, look,
I'm irish. I wanted all to be Kelly green, and
he goes, get out, get out, you can't be here,
or and I go, what do you talk? He goes,
you can't be here? But they did. We did do
a little green on the shake, but shot of it.
(11:35):
I'm telling you that I would have people walk past
this corner house for two years and go, man, whoever
did this picked the exhibit the perfect color. And I
had to give Randy and my wife all the credit
on that except for the green. I go, that was me.
That color was that color was me, and it was
amazing to me the amount of options and just how
(11:58):
many different you know, the vertical and the panels in
the all of it has just really exploded. How do
you keep up with all the changes in your industry?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Well, that ties into the innovation.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
You know, you gotta pay attention to what's going on,
contract or feedback, homeowner feedback. That's very important to us
to constantly reinvent ourselves essentially, you know, and keep up
at the times because I mean, you can drive by
any subdivision and you know, the standard new construction house
has five different exterior clidings on it. You know, we
(12:31):
want to be able to you know, own that entire
exterior and you know it will be a one stop
shop for people. And that's what makes it nice, you know,
because WASSAP constantly innovates itself.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
So would you be the would you then sell the product?
Would Randy come to you and buy the product? If
that if I don't know where he gets his product from,
but that's how that would work for you know.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
So that's you know, kind of we're set up as
strictly a resource, so samples anything, job site startups is huge.
If you have a new crew, we'll go out to
the job site and you know, kind of guide them.
We're not gonna tell them how to do their job.
We're going to guide them between proper install and whatnot.
So essentially we are a you know, we will distribute
(13:17):
to your local yards, your ABC's, your directs, flippersers are
and so whoever said contractor has a relationship with that's
where they would place the order. But I'm strictly a
resource for them. So it makes it nice because I
get them comfortable selling in the house as well, you know,
how to sell our product.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
And and it's a Diamond code. Is that that's the
name of the signing that you guys utilize. Yeah, so
it is.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
So we are partnered without Peacemart side. So that is
the actual substrate, you know, which is engineered wood siding.
And then we you know, we re manufacture our coding
is you know, we offer thirty year warranty. So that's
the Diamond coate siding system. There's parts and pieces that
we've you know, re manufactured to make it esthetically pleasing
(14:02):
and easier to install as well.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Excellent. You know what I love about it is when
you talked about the reason that you got involved with
the greenhouse project, and you said, look, it's good for
us to be there, but for us to have these
kids be proud of the final project. Very similar to
why Creative Construction of Wisconsin gets involved with this stuff,
because guys like Aaron loved to talk to high school
(14:27):
age kids about how proudius looks the job you're doing
up in Madison. How much longer do you have, by.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
The way, provat sayd two or three weeks?
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Okay, And what's the project.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
It's a historical district. The homeowners bought a new house
and a lot next door, and then Doug a really
big hole and made the house twice as big, and
the historical society is making them look make it look
like it was originally there one hundred years ago.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
And that's what you guys do best.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yep, that's exactly why they called us.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
And so for these guys to get involved and always
be involved in community projects. If you knew some of
the things that Creative Construction of Wisconsin did behind the
scenes that they won't even talk about on the show
because they're like, look, we don't need to say that
we donated this for this, or we got involved and
helped this food drive. But as a company, it is,
(15:22):
it's woven through the fabric of who that company is,
and it's similar. It sounds to me, and I don't
know enough about your company, but it sounds to me
like the boys up and watched out understand.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
That protect that's exactly it.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Do you get up to watch how much?
Speaker 4 (15:35):
So I would say probably at least, you know, for
trainings and whatnot. Once every three months. You know, I'm
going up there, so we offer plant tours. You know,
that's very effective. So I'm going up there next month
in February and March for plant tours. So I just
lets everybody see the process and ultimately helps them sell
(15:57):
the product, move the product.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
I got a bunch of family in that area. Okay, Yeah.
Mcgiffern Construction is up there, and I don't know if
Ronnie's retired, if that company is still going on, But
really interesting, kind of different. One one of the mcgifferin's
was the curator for the museum and the other one
was in and out of places where he'd have to
stay for three months for reasons. If you know what
(16:20):
I'm going with this, And I'm like, we have two
sides of the family. Which where am I going? Back
in the day, I'd go to the right and now
I'm over by the curator a little bit. A lot
of mcgiffern's up in that Wassaw area. So if you
ever run into any, tell him, hey, I was on
the show with that, and they'll be like, he does
a home improvement show. He doesn't know how to do
(16:42):
any of this stuff. And you could tell him that.
He's right, our special guest, and we're going to talk
a lot about the Narry show going on, and we'll
get you all the information how to buy your tickets,
how to save some money, and some of the things
that are going on. But when you go down there,
either today or tomorrow, make sure that you head over
to the Greenhouse Grove project. You can still vote. Oh yeah,
and I bet you know. Look, I don't think i'll ever.
(17:05):
Bingo's not coming back. He's in Florida, not coming back.
If Whitnell didn't win this thing, you guys better get
that thing done. This is and again we're talking with
with Ryan McDermott. He's a siding specialist Washause Supply Company.
And is Marylyn listening. Do you think depends if she
got out of you better get out of bed. You
(17:25):
want those two little boys to be listening to this
show for sure. This is the Creative Construction Wisconsin Home
Improvement Show on Fox Sports nineteen twenty in your iHeart
Radio App. Yes, Spencer, you are one funny guy. All
about the dream I told you I had today and
that's why he's playing that bumper music. Boys. I used
(17:46):
to whatever, what a weird dream? What a weird dream?
My wife told me that when I get off the
air today and I get back home, that she had
eighty people coming over because we're going to teach him
how to adopt farm animals. What is going on in
my world? You know I live in a condo. You
have two turkeys. I won't go out to my car
Tony leave. Welcome back to the Creative Construction Wisconsin Home
(18:08):
Improvement Show on Fox Sports nine twenty in your iHeartRadio app.

celebrating forty years in business, largest employee owned HVAC company

(18:31):
signing specialists for Wassaw Supply Company. When you go to
the Naary Show today, when you go down there today
or tomorrow, they are in Boost seven o seven and
seven oh nine right across from Heavenly Nuts.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yeah, you know you're.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
Getting over there, sell some snacks and stop by the
Diamond Coat Wassaw Supply booth.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
You're hoping that they're they're gonna cook them up today, right, Yeah,
the smell of the smell, Yeah, yeah, you got I
gotta walk over and there're seven oh seven seven oh nine.
Will you be there all day to day?
Speaker 3 (18:59):
I will be there at one o'clock till the close.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Okay, if you're if you're heading down there and you
want to talk to Ryot, head over to booth seven
seven seven nine and talk to him a little bit
about the greenhouse growth project and I'm sure he'd be
willing to have that conversation as to why Wassaw Supply
has been a big partner of this this project and
are we able to announce there was one winner in
(19:24):
that already.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
For technical Yes McGonagall one for technical install and then
the fan favorite vote.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
So that's why you got to get out and vote.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
There's QR codes for next to every school by every
Green Greenhouse project. Scan the QR code, vote for your
favorite and that will be announced tomorrow at two pm.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah. The twenty twenty five Spring Home Improvement Show going
out at State for A Park. And when I walked in, Spencer,
my funny producer who played that last farm song by
the way, said, of course it's snowing because it's the
Nairy Home Improvement Show and it always seems to snow. Look,
the roads are fine, right, you got you know, he
drove in from Sherboygan. Other than having flat tire.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
I mean, other than getting out of my drivel.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Sam, now that you had a flat tire, she does. Yeah,
she's not. She's gonna have to wait for you to
come home for sure, to go anywhere, unless she wants
to get on the horse and take it somewhere. But Sam,
you're not going anywhere. Hangout, and I'm sure Aaron's gonna
snowblow and get that get that flat tire fixed when
he gets back. The Narry Show opens up today at
(20:28):
ten am State Fair Park ten to seven and then
tomorrow ten to five, do yourself a favor. Go online.
You can buy tickets when you get in the parking lot.
Save yourself I think four bucks. And then if you
go online and go to Narymwaukee dot org to the
spring show. I would highly recommend that you read that
article that Michelle Brown wrote about get ready for this show.
(20:52):
You know, steps to prepare for the home show, and
there's some really basic ideas that make a lot of sense.
Know your needs, your budget, prioritize the projects that you have,
what your needs are, and what your wants are. But
that that one sheet that that she put together got
a great questions, great follow up questions and look the
(21:14):
things that you want to talk to the people that
you're going to the show for. And I just think
it's a it's a show that you're gonna make sure
you put a few hours aside because it's a tough
show to walk in and out of.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Am I right, it's massive, but there's so many vendors, contractors,
builders there, and I mean, you'll meet all your needs
if you know what you're going in for, you'll be
able to find it there.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Hey, if you I used to see a lot of
introduce people up on stage, and I would be the
guy you'd hear doing the all of the ads and
the commercials. Hey don't forget this, and we want to
thank these sponsors. And when I had to introduce Milinda
Myers and she's there twelve thirty to day. The name
(22:01):
of her talk today is Fragrant Plants Sure to elevate
your moon and garden enjoyment. Yeah, not the kind of
weather that we think about that, but she draws such
a huge crowd and I used to be amazed and
I was nervous to introduce myself to her. And she's like, you,
Mike McGivern, and I go, you're the plant doctor and
(22:22):
she'd laugh. I love the fact that they used to
give her there'd be just an hour between and she'd
go forty five minutes. But the line of people to
buy her books and talk to her and have her
autograph the books, which was so long that now they
do an extra half hour because at two o'clock there's
Kevin's going to be up there. Kevin Ester, in fact,
(22:42):
for my Q Automation is going to be up exploring
LED technology at two o'clock. He'll do a great job
with that. But now there's that extra half hour because
the line that Melinda Myers tomorrow, she'll be there at
twelve thirty as well. Create an oasis on a deck,
patio or balcony. Yeah, you can do some of that
and make sure that your house looks pretty good with
(23:03):
nice siding. Right.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Hey, wash Sauce supply all the things that you guys do.
What's the biggest part of the business, do you know?
For them? As far as you know, because you guys
do deck decks and railing and door hardware and you know,
entrance systems. There's so much that you guys do at
washau Supply. Yeah, is there a big what's the biggest
part of that business?
Speaker 4 (23:27):
The Diamond Cote siding system and Wadyina doors, those are
in house for us. You know, you can call it
your bread and butter. But we do very well with
our distributed brands and partnering with them and having great relationships.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
So options are endless at Wassaw.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
I mean we whatever you're looking for, we probably can
hammer it out.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
And you know, and if people are looking for literature,
you've got on your on your website. Man, there's a
lot on your website. I can tell you that there's
a lot of things that look true, but you you
also offer some some literature, some marketing items and and
things that that people can can get by just going
to the website.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Absolutely, you know, our marketing team does a fantastic job
and they just revamped our website. You know, we recently
updated our logo and the the stuff that you need
or you feel comfortable, we can get it to you.
You know, whether it be samples at your local yards.
You know, we have diamond coat towers that have actual
(24:31):
three by five wood samples. So if you want to
see it up close, talk to those people. If you
want to see a house full with diamond coat, you know,
it might not be the same color, but you know,
we give you that look and visualize, you know, using
the Home visualizer. That's a great tool where you can
mask out your own house and you know, actually see
(24:53):
the colors on there.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Aaron, and it's interesting me and look, everybody we have
that's in sitting where Ryan is is excited about the
company they work for in the work they do. But
this dude, man, he loves the company.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
He's very passionate.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
You can see it. He was running from the parking
lot because you're from Kenosan. I thought, well, I told you,
if he's not here in two minutes, we'll do the
show on her own and lock him out. But he
came running with a big smile. He's like, sorry about that,
I'm ready to go, and I go. Should we have
a little conversation, hecause now you can ask me whatever
you want, but regarding wash house supply and why we're
involved with the Narry Show, and I love the fact
(25:33):
that he's willing to do that similar to people from
your company.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
I think, so you just jump right in and get started.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
And just talk about it. Hey, at the Spring Home
Improvement show, to buy tickets, and again it's online is
ten bucks, right, so if you go online, if you
go to the door, it's fourteen dollars. So if you're
bringing your wife and two kids, you know, buy the
tickets when you're in the parking lot, save yourself four
bucks of tickets. Senior six you over with an ID,
(26:01):
it's twelve bucks at the door. Kids seventeen and under
are free and they have done that for years to
get kids that the high school age level, you know, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen,
to get interested in getting involved in what you guys do.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Absolutely, you know, and just seeing you know, students come
in and out that worked on the Greenhouse score of project.
You know, they'll probably pop in and out all weekend,
and you know, I've kind of formed some relationships with
them as making them feel comfortable asking questions and being
proud you're showing off your stuff, be proud of it.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
It's always it's always cool to see there. I'm just
walking around the show and I'll see I'll see one
of the high school kids with his parents there. Yep,
just look look what I did, mom, and I look up.
This is like I did this part of it, this
part of it.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Yeah, it's great to see him get passionate about it
like that.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Hey, I'm Ryan. One of the things that that Creative
Construction Wisconsin and we talk about it a lot of
ride alongs that they will take high school kids and
even beyond. Look if if you're you know, working a
job and it's not a career and you think, okay,
I want to get involved in the trades, Creative construction,
you guys you can do ride along. Do you guys
(27:13):
do any of.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
That you know, it's kind of difficult because we're based
out of Schofield, Wallsaw, you know, but we are definitely
a resource. If a kid wants to know about distribution
and how it works, I would gladly. You know, there's
a liability issue, you know that that could come into play,
but you know, I have no problem going to the
high schools talking about, you know, my career and what
(27:37):
was sauce supply is and the distribution aspects, not just
swinging a hammer.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
You know that there's different options.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
So that's primarily what we focus on now right along
with contractors all day. You know, you know, we want
to help grow their business.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
So yeah, I love the fact that Creative Construction Wisconsin
offers that because that's Look, if if you walk in
and you want to do an interview, they can tell
you what it's like, but you're not going to really
know what it's like. It come with you.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
I mean, I can tell you what I do all day,
but it's it's hard to put it into words. So
I have to show you what I do, and I
mean I'll have a have a kid ride with me
all day purposely make it to where I go to
a different bunch of different types of my jobs.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Did you have the kids just stand and watch her?
Did they pick?
Speaker 4 (28:26):
Make them?
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Make them get involved a boy for the day too.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Yeah, that's good for you. And I think that that
gives them the whole experience, right, and they'll get an idea.
I had a kid, and I've told the story one
hundred times, but kind of like you were in in
high school. I had a kid where I was coaching
basketball that wanted to become an electrician. Got him a
ride along at Current Electric and he's done there now
five years, buying his first house. His buddies are all,
(28:52):
you know, basically seniors in college, going how am I
going to pay this thing back? And he's like, you know, coach,
this is my first house. I'm gonna fix it up,
sell it, and you know, well, I'll flip it and
then I'll move on. And his goal is to be
on a lake someday so he can he go to
come home from work and go fishing.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
And that's kind of, you know, the mindset you got
to have, you know, when parent or student. You know,
if if you're a two point seven GPA, you know
you're probably not going to go to Harvard.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Why tackle?
Speaker 4 (29:22):
You know, there's so many options, but you still can
be successful in your life.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Maybe school's not for everybody, and that's fine.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Brody was a three to six student over at Greenham
Martin Luther. Really good football player. Absolutely, it wasn't as
good a basketball player, but I used to rip him
a lot. But he could have gone pretty much to
wherever he wanted to go. But he knew he wanted
to be an electrician. And I think there's a lot
more kids like that, if IF and guidance counselors are
(29:48):
starting to figure it out. It used to be four
year school, two year school, right, go into the service,
be a police officer, all of these options, and by
the way, maybe be the trades. But we'll only spend
a second on that. That started to move up and
I and I look, Mike Row has a lot to
do with it, you know what he really does. He's
(30:09):
kind of the spokesperson for the things that we're talking
about on this maybe being okay, maybe Sam can get
him to come in studio one day, and you talking
about that.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
If Sam can get mic Row in here, I'm gonna
beat that door down to.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
I grew up watching his show, What was a dirty job?
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah, and and and he's done such a good job
of making it not like making it cool, You're okay
with it. And it's funny, Ryan, because again I've told this,
but my dad was a bricklayer and Mason never went
to any of our sporting events. His buddies made him
come to an liter League All Star game that I
was in and we got some trophy at the end,
(30:46):
some MVP trophy. And the first thing he said to
me was, you know you're not going to be a
professional baseball player, right, I go, yeah, I know that.
I knew that. And he made me go to Tech
as a freshman because he wanted one of the mcgiffern
boys to follow in his footsteps. Sure, and no chance
I transferred the best. But he was so proud, and
that's what you had talked about. He was so proud
(31:08):
of the work that he did. And when you talk
to Aaron just about the Madison job that he's involved in,
you see him light up, like, look, we have to
make this historic building and we're the best at that.
You know, nobody does. I mean the fact that these
people from Madison are working with Creative Construction Wisconsin here
because they understand how good they are at it and
(31:30):
the pride that he has and everybody that works there
has in what they do. Very similar to when you
start talking about some of the work you do.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Absolutely, I mean, you have to be passionate about what
you do, especially in this industry. It's a you know,
it's a sense of pride and you gotta it's not
work if you love what you do, you know, correct
at the end of the day, That's what it's all about.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
You know.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
And that's why it's so important to get in front
of these kids and say, hey, you know, you can
be passionate about something you know, and you can be
proud of something at the end of the day, you know,
and when you hit that once you can see it
in the kids' face.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
You know, Hey, can I ask did Nary come to
you and ask if wash House Supply would get involved
with Greenhouse or did you go to them? How does
that work?
Speaker 3 (32:19):
No?
Speaker 4 (32:19):
So I am part of the outreach committee and this
is something that you know, we were putting on and
I volunteered, you know, because I working with these kids
and trying to change that stigma. That's a huge passion
of mine and you know no, I offered up my
whole services.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
I just want to know if Michelle Brown had to
put your arm behind you, raise it up a little
bit at all.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
I mean, the nai staff is they're they're great, you know,
they're they're they're fantastic at what they do and they
will never pressure you to do anything. It makes you
They they have that feeling where it makes you want
to do things, and that's so important.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Look, if there's a bigger fan of Michelle Brown out
there than I am, I'd like to find when when
they made that decision. And and I knew behind the
scenes that that she wanted the job, and I was
asked like what do you think? And I'm like, you
couldn't find somebody better because she she has that for
some reason, she has that soft touch of getting you
(33:22):
to want to do things for her because she's so
passionate about it and and I just like she's she
thinks on her feet. She cares a lot about the
Nary members and cares about the people that understand why
it's important to be a Nary member. And it's not
that you just write a check and you get to
(33:42):
become a Nary member. You've got to be the best
of the best.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Well you get vetted by them. It's important you know that.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
If you're not an I remember, I would strongly recommend,
you know, getting involved because there's so many resources that
they offer and for the kids their scholarships. You know,
stop on then Iri booth and learn about the organization itself.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Aaron, did you know when you came, when you moved
to town, did you know the strength of a company
like Nary.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I had a little bit of an idea because on
one of Salmoni's dates, we passed a convention center in
Texas that had Nary signs all over it. And Sam's like, oh,
my parents company is part of that organization. I was like, well,
that's a that's a huge reach. And she kind of
explained a little bit of what it was, and I
was like, oh, yeah, that's pretty hard.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Which date was that, you know? Date one?
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Oh no, that was probably date three, So.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
You had already you you figured out by then you
I'll kick your coverage a little bit. Yeah, she's way
too good looking. Date number one of that right, date
number one that like all of us did you did
admit that once?
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Yet?
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Absolutely, Even though you know, I'm leaving here and teaching
people how to adopt Farman almost. I guess how I
I'm not happy with my wife.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
I mean that was my Valentine's Day carried to my wife.
I said, you know, it was kind of funny, but
it's like you put up with me.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
So, you know, a boy, you're bringing the boys to
the Naarry Show today.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Possibly depending on the weather. You know.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Yeah, we're a lot more in Kenosha than we are
than up here in Milwaukee, so it all depends.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
And you're supposed to get a ton again.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Three to five, they're saying, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
You get to stick around here and go to the
State Fair from here, right, No.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
I'm actually gonna go home. I gotta plow what's there?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
And then could you stop at Aaron's house and fix
a tipe? Hey, ten o'clock today the doors opened up
ten to seven today at State Fair Park. So get
out and snowblow and get get that stuff done now.
So at ten o'clock you can head over to State
Fair the Narry Home Improvement Show. It is the Spring
home improvement show. And this is the big one, right,
(35:54):
this is the big one. To make sure that you
head over to the Greenhouse Grove project and take walk
through that and make sure you vote. These kids put
a lot of sweat equity into this and take a
look and vote for a winner. And these guys would
love to be able to to have that award. And
they've worked really hard. You've been to these schools and
(36:16):
watched these kids work.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
They put in a lot of extra time too, their
own time, and you know that speaks volumes. They want
a good finished product and they all look amazing.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Yeah, the trophy for fan Favorite is what these kids
are looking at right now. The best technical excuse me,
was great, Yeah, you know, congratulations to mcgwannagel for that.
But the fan favorite is what they're And we know
this because the kid from Winnow was in a couple
of weeks ago and he goes, I want that trophy,
like I want to be able to raise that up
and show because he he jumped into the leadership side
(36:49):
of it as a sophomore and his mom was sitting
over there. She was so proud of this kid and
he was sitting where you are and man, no nerves.
He just grabbed the microphone and started talking about being
part of this project. And it was really impressive.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Yeah, I mean for the first year.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
This was you know, the first year the initiative, initial project,
and you know, there were takeups along the road, but
we figured them out.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
You know.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
We meet once monthly, first Thursday every month a part
of the Outreach committee, and you know, we you talk
through it and it's kind of good to show these
kids that you can have a plan and in the
building materials world, it's probably not going to go to plan,
you know, but it's good to have a plan and
to pivot. And it's kind of showing them project management
(37:33):
as well.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
He know, if somebody's doing siding this spring, can they
can they recommend to the people that they're doing the
siding with a Randy Miller that they want your product.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yeah. Absolutely, that's what we're looking at. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Stop diamond coat.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yeah, stop by the booth. Chris Hermanson will be there
this morning. I'll be there this afternoon untill close. Stop by,
get educated, grab you know, a business card if you want.
We have tons of literature out there. We have parts
and pieces, you know, come see.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Yeah at booth seven oh seven and seven o nine
and after one o'clock if you go out there. Make
sure you introduced yourself to Ryan. Tell them what a
great job he did. Tell me you should have gotten
here a little bit earlier. Yaf he made me nervous.
But other than that and being a trepper boy, that's.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
Yeah, it doesn't hurt that it's a wrong turn off
the interstate. Yeah, there it is now here we go out.
All the honesty now is coming out. Let's get to
a break up. Let's side, the break will continue. Got
a few more things to tell you about today's and
tomorrow down at State Fair Park. Make sure that you
uh head over there. Buy your tickets ahead of time
(38:40):
because you're going to save four bucks a ticket. And man,
the nvery show is from what I hear. Talk to
some people that were there yesterday and they said, man,
it's a really really good show.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
This is the Creative Construction Wisconsin Homie Provem Show on
Fox Sports nineteen twenty and Your iHeart Radio App. Welcome
back to the Creative Construction Wisconsin Homiproven Show on Fox
Sports nineteen twenty, your iHeartRadio App. Coming live from the
Donovan and Jorgansen. He didn't clean studios. My co host
he is Aaron Anderson Creative Construction, Wisconsin's got.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
A busy day to day by really busy day.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Yeah. Are you so you gotta fix the tire?
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Got to fix the tire? Well, I gotta get the
snow off the out of the way first, fix the tire.
I gotta go get it a missions tested.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Oh man, man, fine.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
And then I've got a got a two year old
daughter that misses me a lot that I've got to
play with all day.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Well, out in the snow, have her come out, and
she's not gonna help you fix the tire, but maybe
you can. She can.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
She she does what she thinks is helping.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Yeah, that's well man. She is so cute, ridiculous. Our
special guest in studio. He's a citing specialist at Wassaw
Supply Company. It's an employee owned company and I love
that about that company. He is Ryan McDermott. Ryan when
when when you started with Wassaw, How much different was
(40:01):
it than what you were doing prior to that and
was it a big change for you?
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Oh? Yeah it was.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
You know, you're coming from retail to distribution, and I
mean I couldn't work another weekend in my life, you know,
aside from these shows, you know, but you know it's
completely different. You know, you're dealing with the general public,
which is fine in the retail world, but you know
it's such a smaller scale, like this.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Is what's making it. You're making a difference.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
You know, you're informing people because you know, putting new
siding on your house or any kind of exterior clidding,
it's a big purchase.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
So you want to make them feel comfortable.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
You know when when we had Randy come out and
do it, it started with Creative Construction Wisconsin and I
and I'll tell you the story we had. I have
two kids and we helped get them through college. And
my wife and I were at the kitchen table spreadsheets
and we were done. Yeah, we're done. We got the
second one through Maranatha Baptist Bible College. We're done. High five.
(40:58):
We go to bed at four in the morning, I
wake up and I hear something and I go and
water coming into our kitchen and I thought, Lord, I
appreciate your patience. What's your sense of humor? Stinks? You
know that called Randy said hey, this is going on.
And Randy said, hey, we'll come out and look at
the roof, and then Bingo came out and because our
(41:19):
kitchen had a big bubble in it, and they redid that.
Randy came out, did the uh, did the roof, and
then said, man, you might need siding. And we had
had our house painted a year prior again for the
third time, and the guy said never again, like you
have to get siding. So that day we decided the siding, roof, garage,
(41:42):
all of it. Let's go. And I tell the story.
Randy still laughs at it. The guy kitty corner from
me started siding with with you know, like his brother's,
sister's uncle, whatever. Right, And two weeks prior to Andy's
crew coming out about a month later, they weren't done
(42:03):
yet Randy, and he was like, so did all those
nails that ruin your you were lawnmore? And I go no.
The guy that owns this Randy comes out with a
metal detector and if he finds less than like ten nails, like,
he gives these guys a bonus and he goes, are
you kidding me? And I go no, Like the guy
was mad at me, Like why are you mad at me?
(42:25):
He goes, cause your house looks great and it's already done,
and I can't even these guys won't return my call.
Going back to the Nary thing. Right, if you go
to the show today and you're walking through the boots,
understand that that's who you're working with. The guys that
come out and ten nails, you know that's who you're
working with.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Him.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
When you go down to that Nary Spring show today
and tomorrow, doors open at ten o'clock both days, ten
to seven to day ten to five, make sure you
head over to seven oh seven and Boost seven oh nine,
and after one o'clock go sailo to Ryan and talk
to him if you're thinking about siding or talk to
him about washed Us Supply. And this employee owned company
(43:05):
out of Schofield, Yes, near Wasshaw basically it's Washawe And
how many states this this company is huge? Thirty eight
thirty eight states man, And you had your big meeting
in Minneapolis. Yeah, we got to talk to those guys. Well,
let's go to a place warm with.
Speaker 4 (43:22):
The do you know it was so it was the
first one since twenty nineteen, So I think we were
just all happy to get together. And you know, it's
it's nice, it's it's great because you can issue a
message and it's company wide.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
You know, everybody, all the sales are there. Yeah, you know,
so it gets everybody in.
Speaker 4 (43:40):
The same page with the same mission, and you know,
gets to show how innovative we keep on being.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
When when you're looking for siding, if you are in
the spring of the summer, I would stop at booth
seven oh seven after one o'clock today and ask for
Ryan and talk to him about the products that washed
Us Supply offers and then thank him, thank him for
this company get involved with this Greenhouse Grove project because look,
these these kids are so proud, these high school age
(44:09):
kids are so proud of the projects that they have
in the Greenhouse Grove project. And go look at those
and then vote for the fan favorite and thank Ryan,
and think the people at Washaw Supply and all the sponsors,
including Creative Construction Wisconsin that got involved in this thing.
So guys, thank you man, you did good. Absolutely no
(44:30):
problem talking about this stuff.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Oh I love it.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
I mean it's a passion of mine. And you know,
like I said, I can't I speak volumes. You know,
the mission statement that Wassaon Supply has and you know,
being partner with Nari.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
It is fantastic.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
Hey, make sure that Grant and Calling get out and
help you snowblow.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
Hunh Yeah, they want to play in the snow.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
Yeah, they're they're not helping. Yeah, I know. Those little
Iris boys are not picking up the Ryan. It's so
good to meet you, Eron. It's good to see you.
I'm sorry I can't come help you today, but I
got to talk high school basketball for Oh.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
Yeah, that's convenient.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
Yeah, and I guess we're doing some farm I don't
know what that is. Hey, I should have you at
that thing, because you would, you would do some of.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
We have enough animals.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Yeah you bet. He is Aaron Anderson from Creative Construction
of Wisconsin. Bingo Emmons will be back in next week.
This is the Creative Construction Wisconsin Home improvement show on
Fox Sports Night twenty in your iHeart Radio app
