Speaker 1 (00:00):
Why don't we head down I'm assuming we're heading down
to Austin, Texas and talk with the newest member of
the Denver Broncos, John ay Baron, John Day, Thanks for
the time. Where are you.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
All right now? I'm in Austin, Austin, brought to you,
ready to enjoy my family. My family.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
So so let me ask you, and first of all,
welcome to Denver. I think you're gonna love this city.
Thank you. But when he got the call, got the
call from whomever you got to call from, Uh, what
what were your first thoughts about becoming a Bronco.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
It's amazing a great defense, an amazing defense. Somebody the
coach there, that somebody that actually truly loves his players
and he loves his craft. He's always putting his players
to be in the best position. And then Patrick Sattage
is leading the group. Just again, I spoke, I spoke
about him. It's another interview with some friends. Uh. You know,

(00:51):
people think he's like that because of his ability to
get from God, but he truly, he truly works on
his craft. And I love watching Patrick Satain. It's gonna
be amazing just to to be able to learn from him.
And grow.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Uh and and I.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Can't wait to be a very asset for him and
just just to help around that defense, help around that defense.
You've played a lot of spots there in the secondary.
A lot of people think that you might be more
of a slot at the pro level.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
What do you think? What are you sort of expecting
to be able to do here for the Broncos?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Well, I know the Broncos. You know, they're they're very
smart's smarter than me, and they're gonna make something. They're
gonna make something work. I'm a master my position. Whatever
they want me to and and go from there. But
I'm very versatile. I'm able to do a lot of things.
I could benefit on a lot of spots, a lot
of different roles on the team. So I'm just truly
blessed just to be in his position.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
And I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
You can't wait to get it rolling. I'm gonna I'm
gonna soak a lot of knowledge in from from the
great vest that they have there, from the coaching staff,
and I'm gonna just get to work and attack.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Do you think that they're having a familiarity down there
already helps I mean, you got vance Joseph's cousin down
there helping, helping coach you.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Now you're coming over here to vance Joseph in Denver.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
You think that helps a little bit?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Man, that helps, That helps a lot. You know, it's
you know this is it's a kind of weird process.
You know, just just talking to all these coaches and
you know you're having to be yourself. I'm always myself.
You know these coaches, you know they have resources, they
have people that they know, connections and things like that.

(02:20):
But I mean from going from cousin to another cousin,
I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. He truly,
he truly going to understand me. I guarantee he truly
talked to my coach ut and he truly understands me.
And I know he's gonna push me. And I'm willing
to be coaching, willing to be pushed so I can
be the best I can on the field out there
of my ability out there.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
My ability today can congratulations former Broncos safety here, Nick Ferguson.
You know what I want to talk to you about
is basic fundamentals and watching you on tape, the one
thing that stood out to me as a former safety
is your ability to tackle? Where did that desire to
kind of be a progressive tackle come from?

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I mean, that's essence, you know, that's want two. But
every day I practiced Coach Joseph, whether if we were
doing thuds with with some scout receivers or we're we're
doing thuds with the dummy bag, he made sure that
we hit, and he made sure that we did that
with just techniques. And he told this just a one
two thing. It's an essence by who are you gonna be?
You know, once once that film gets put out there,

(03:22):
that's you. That's that's that's that's your resume. So what
are you gonna do with your resume? So every day
Coach Joseph, he pushed me and just understanding that if
he could push me like that, I mean, I know,
I know this the staff, they're gonna push me to
to the best of my ability. And I'm just thankful.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
We'll let you go on this. But I'm assuming you're
gonna be on be on a bird here fairly soon
to come to the Mile High City. What what will
you do to celebrate for the rest of your night?

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Just take it all in, uh, I mean, I told
the staff and be committed to the process of what
I'm doing without being attached to the result. I'm gonna
treat this like a game, you know, twenty four hour rule,
and then after that is I got to get to
work at the end of the day. This is a
this is a step on the staircase being able to
take care of my mom's life forever. And I'm just

(04:12):
truly blessed. My mom went through so much, She went
through so much emotions, raising me by myself, so just
enjoying the night. I'm gonna let my mom enjoy it
for the rest of her life because she don't have
to work it no more. And I'm gonna do it.
I'm gonna do the dirty work for She did all
the investments for me, and I just want to invest
in her back. She's surely everything to me. She's my
Queen's that's my rock. I mean, I love that woman

(04:34):
for life.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
So yep, and I'll guarantee if she loves you too.
That's a great answer. Hey, listen, congratulations, can't wait to
meet you. You're gonna love Denver, and I think Denver
is gonna love you, so we'll look forward to seeing
you at the press conference. Thank you so much, Okay today,
Baron
