Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Broncos moments ago drafting a new wide receiver, and
that is Pat Bryant. We're heading out to the hotline
to meet him right now. Pat, thank you so much
for the time. Congratulations And what was it like getting
that phone call from the Broncos A moment to go, man.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Very thrill moment. Man. Just know, all the hard work
that I put in, Man, even since I first started
playing football, has really paid off, and you know, just
reaching my dreams and get to the next level. Only
thing on my mind right now is just you know,
I'm ready to get the Denver man, and just put
work in and help the team win.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Pat, if I'm not mistaken, didn't your brother play linebacker
at South Florida?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, so my brother's brother played linebacker at the University
of South Florida.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Okay, yeah, I was to say, what was it like
coming up having a brother playing the other side of
the ball that helped prepare you on the offensive side
to come out here and get ready to play for
the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I mean, it's very special. Man. I grew up with
all older brothers, so you know, we horse played a
lot many They turned me into a man, very very early,
but just growing up watching them play ball. Man, I
kind of always knew that growing up one day that
I had that football in my hand. Playing in the
National Football League.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Pat put me in that frame of mind being a
wide receiver, because I mean, as tall as you are,
obviously everyone talks about the fifty to fifty balls. Well,
what is it like to possess that mentality as a
wide receiver? Being aggressive, saying that every ball that's thrown
in my direction it's mine. What goes into that type
of mentality, I.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Mean, that's kind of how I grew up. Man. My
father always told me that I'm better than a man
in front of me, and when the ball in the
air is mon so, really just using my size and physicality,
you know, to dominate, dominate DB's on the edge, man.
My main focus when it's not even really fifty fifty balls,
when they come to me, it's more ninety to ten.
So really just when I okay, here is mon so
(01:45):
when it goes up, I'm for sure to come down
with it.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I love that Pat Bryant joining us newest dever Bronco.
You get fifty four catches, nine hundred eighty four yards.
This last year ten touchdowns. Boy, you just had a breakout.
What do you attribute that to?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Really, just my all the hard work I put in. Man,
just staying dedicated to Illinois for four years. Man, plenty
of times I could have jumped in the portal when
things aren't going my way. But man, just the type
of guy I am, and the loyalty that I have
for that program. And man, just trusting in my coaches
and my training and just you know, going out there
and balling like it's my last Saturday. Man, you know,
leaving it all on the field. My main focus was
coming to Illinois just to help turn the program around.
(02:23):
I feel like I did a great job of that job.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Well, as you last Saturday. NFL plays on Sundays, although
yes we had Saturday games now late in the season,
so that works out.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's just went through this process. What was the most
enjoyable part of this process? From the Senior Bowl of
COMBA the Proty, It was the most enjoyable part of
that process for you.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Kind of just you know, just interacting with other athletes.
You know that's going through the same exact process. Manager,
sharing our stories, managers, you know, having a good time,
because you know it's a once in lifetime themes. So
just to enjoining it all man, seeing guys that you
know I kind of watched, you know, on Saturdays, watch
them ball out guys I trained with, you know, throughout
common by training down and for a lot of deal
at Bama Ritos and just watching those guys even get
drobted that day was very very special. So really just
(03:06):
you know, meeting new people man, not only that, but
the coaches as well, and just talking ball and just
you know, standing around it by the game that I
love you.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I love you know.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Pat.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Just sitting here listening to you talk about this moment
and all the work that goes in, I could tell
that you are really passionate about what you do and
what you will be doing for the Broncos. But the
Broncos are embarking on and I guess a new and
all and that's running the ball. And here in Broncos
Country Rod Smith and McCaffrey, these are two guys who
(03:36):
were known for being physical blockers on a perimeter. Let
Broncos Country know right now that type of mentality that
you have when it comes to blocking it on the edge.
And the reason I say that because most wide receivers
want to catch the ball, not too many want to block.
But watching you, you're a willing blocker and you're one
of those guys who are going to pull you all
into it. So explain the fans who are listening how
(03:58):
important it is not just receiving balls, but just kind
of block blocking on the edge, and it's helping expand
the run game.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I mean, my mame, my model was always, you know,
no block, no rock. But not only that, man, it's
not taking no plays off. I like to you know,
I like to play bully ball, you know, I like to.
I like to be on a dB all game. Loan
will never give them a break. So really, just you know,
helping in that run game shows what kind of player
I am, what kind of team that I am. Not
only you don't want to make dick plays, but I
want to help my teammate make bit plays as well.
And you know I love to put dbs in the dirt,
(04:26):
especially when it's blocking.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's great, all right, last one for you. Really I
grew up. I dig it man. No, that's awesome, But
that's gonna that's gonna fit.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
In really well.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Here.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
It plays well with me.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
That's gonna fit it really well.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Here.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Last one I have for you, man, your name, team,
your name team captain this year, and that's something the
Broncos continue to really focus in on. Here. They added
the first round, picking Baron as a team captain. RJ.
Harvey moment Ago a team captain and now you as
a team captain. What does it mean for you this
year to have Illinois, who you again invested in four years,
to name you a team captain? What does that mean
(05:01):
to you?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I mean it was very very special man, just having
my guys you know, believe in me as a as
a leader of that team to lead us to succession
in such a great season that we had this year.
But it's also a testament to you know, all the
hard work and all the loyalty that I put into
the program. Man. It just just being that voice for
the team. You know, when we face didversity, I was
the guy to pick the team up. When we needed
a big play, I was a guy to make that
big play. So it really it started it, you know
(05:25):
in some workouts, man, just pushing guys man and just
set in that standard. I even went back during during springball.
This is just to make sure you know, the standard
was still hot. So really just those guys having that
faith in me, man, and just just being that voice
of the team and the guy that you know, helped
swing the games and just you know, lead us to success.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Pat, we are so excited you're a Denver Bronco. I
can't wait to meet you. Congratulations and welcome to the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
I appreciate it, all right, Pat Bryant's
