Speaker 1 (00:00):
Of course, the draft cover starts at five o'clock. But
(00:03):
we are here very excited to talk to you about
what's coming up for the Broncos today, what they did yesterday,
what happened in the draft, the players that we were
impressed with, the players that maybe slips like Shore Sanders.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
All those kinds of things we'll get after a day.
My friend, good to see you.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
How are you you guys too doing I'm doing doing well?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yeah, you had a chance to sit down with the
newest Denver Bronco. We'll bring that interview here in just
a second. Man, But what'd you think he introductors conference,
all those kinds.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Of you know what? I thought? He was a really
impressive young guy. I mean, holy cow, And he talked
about his mother. He had his family in attendance, and
he he gave his mother the Lion's share of credit.
Uh and without you know knowing him, I mean I
met him and and now obviously he's going to be
(00:53):
a big member of the Broncos organization. But but I
will tell you this, his mom has done a great
job raising that young guy. He he's calm, he's poised.
You wouldn't think he's a rookie. He talks like a
guy who's been in the league five or six years,
(01:14):
So I'm anxious to see him play. He played a
number of positions at Texas where he plays with the Broncos.
I would speculate that it would be inside at at
the nickel, but we'll see. He played outside, a corner,
he played inside at nickel, played in the dime, he
played safety, which tells me he's got a lot of
(01:37):
football acumen. He's a savvy player, because when you can
have a guy played that many positions and it's not
I mean they're they're playing at the elite level right,
I mean into the college football playoffs and deep about it.
So I'm anxious to see him. I think the Broncos
feel like they got themselves a really good player.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Benjamin Albright with us as well as We're going to
get our into our coverage of Day two a little
bit later. But yeah, been, I mean, very impressive press conference.
Dave said that he talks a lot about his mother
and about the impact she had. I still love that
story from last night when the Broncos called him and
let him know that he was going to be with
the team. He wanted he wanted to be on speakerphone
so he could think the war rooms.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I mean, that's just it almost never happened.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
I mean, who does that tells you, but who does
literally my thought what I heard that what an articulate,
smart guy who like a very and I think they've
hit the nail on the head. He sounds like a
guy who's been in the league half a decade, you know,
like a guy who's already got it. Just just an
impressive got easy to see why he wiled in the interviews.
You know, Broncos had a top ten grade on this guy,
got the twenty, top ten grade on this guy.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I got the twenty. That's impressive. You know, played all over.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
As Dave pointed out, really the thing that mentioned me
that that you know, talked about and of course he
worked with Vincios's cousin Terry down here in Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
But playing that.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Star role where you're where the nickel corner your safety,
but you got all the slock corner responsibilities. The fact
that you can kick inside and play that dinebacker role
as well. I think people will remember Advance was here
the first time Will Park's kind of played in that
role where he played all over the place a little bit.
It'd be interesting to see how they use him this
year because I think he will be primarily, I think
the slot corner, but I think there's some versatility to
move him around. You can put Adam Drain on the
(03:11):
field and move him, you know, move him inside in
certain situations. He tackles well, you know, you know, it's
not a liability there. And I think the biggest the
biggest number if you go back and look it, with
all due respect to j Kual McMillan, you talk about
a guy that gave up over four hundred yards after
the catch out of the slot last year, and I
think they identified ed said this is a problem.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
If we're gonna win football games, we got to get
this correct.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Ryan also, I was I was impressed with how he
and the press conference and we'll play some of this
moving forward, but how he broke down his responsibilities and
how he had to learn what what each position brought,
and how he would understand if he was if he
(03:49):
was playing the post safety, how he would try to
disguise really with his alignment, and he knew how much
time he had to get to the post. He's I
can tell you just listening to him in the press conference.
He's a very very bright young man, and just him
describing the variety of positions he played and his mental
(04:10):
approach to each one of those positions and how if
he was the if he was the corner, he could
he could hide inside a little bit if they were
in man and help out on the slot fade. It's like, okay,
I mean, he's he has been well schooled and he's
savvy enough to understand those Those are little things that
(04:32):
coaches look at and try to teach players, but he
understands those at a really early age.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
I remember when I got a chance to meet him
out the combine and he was sharing a really cool
kind of anecdote about letting the process play out.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Because people were asking him your.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Expectations and what you want to be able to, you know,
accomplish in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Where are you hoping you go? And he's like, you know,
you heard.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Religion is a big part of the way he sort
of displays himself. But he just said, you know, hey,
the things are going to be kind of happening the
way they are.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
They asked him what he prides himself on today. He
talked about the tape on field, but they're the combine,
he said, to my maturity.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
He's like, I really pride myself on being mature and
approaching my life in that kind of way. And I
mean again, you just it sort of exudes with him
and you get that sense and you can see why
it's for the Broncos when they had a chance to
meet him slash watch him on tape. I mean, you
heard George Payton last night said we couldn't take your
eyes off of him. I mean, she's just that kind
of player. So I think he's gonna fit in really
(05:28):
well here too, for for a multitude of reasons, not
only his play on the field. Is talking about the
versatility that almost a joker position on defense, as we
talked about the joker position for the last three months.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
You'll hear it. You'll hear him in the interview that
I had a chance to do. He didn't play any
safety until he was a tenth grader. He never played
safety wild he was a wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
That amazing.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
So it's just it just goes to show you that,
you know, if you're a good enough player, this league
is is going to find you and they're gonna they're
going to identify. And the more you can do and
do things well, and do them in a smart way
and understand it, not just line up and get into
a backpedal, but understand you know, when a coverage is called,
where where is the weakness of the coverage? How can
(06:09):
I help? If I'm that free safety? Who is we
used to call it wearing the hat? Who's wearing the hat? Here?
Has the has the biggest responsibility based on this alignment
from the offense and the coverages that we have called
on defense. I'll tell you what, I think Bronco fans
are going to love this kid, and I think the
organization is going to love everything about him.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Wyman here looking like he's got a plan. You look
looking like the moment's not too big for him. You know,
we've seen first rounders in here where Oh yeah, you
know you're sitting in shell shock. This guy looks like
he's ready to.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Hit the Groundrod, Yeah, he said, he said, two or
three times, one thing that's stuck with me. A whole
bunch of stuff, he said, stuck with me. But two
or three times he said, I'm not scared, you know,
And you would say, well, I mean professional athlete. You know, listen,
you know.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
When a lot of guys and a lot of guys that.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Turn out to be good players, when they first come
in the league, it's like, oh, this is this is
different this kid, I don't I mean, he's not going
to be intimidated. I'm not saying he's never going to
get beat or misattackle or whatever. He's human, but he
is not. I don't think the moment is going to
be too big for Barren.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Not at all.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Again, So we're gonna hear from him in just a moment,
as you had an exclusive sit down with him.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Right before the show.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
But I did want to get to a couple of
things that day that you reported today, Ben about the
process last night, because there's been a lot of news
flying around about the Broncos in the first round and
where are they trading up? Were they standing pat how
much interest did they get for trading back? Did they
panic there at pick twenty?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
That's been sort of floated out there.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
So Ben, based on your reporting and you put out
a sort of a bullet point.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
I have it up here in front of you if
you need it, but just give me.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Ben's own bullet point in front of him, and we
did it out. I don't think notes on my own notes.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
No, I had some great conversations last night after after
the pick on end of this morning some this morning
as well. Broncos had a top ten grade on this guy.
You know that's that's not after the fact we're trying
to white washes saying this was illegitimate. They had a
top ten grade on him. A couple other things here.
You know, all the purporting about we're trying to trade
up for tight ends was hogwash. Was utter hogwash. Sean
Payton play of the game, just like he did last
(08:12):
year with the JJ McCarthy stuff. They knew then, you know,
they had their idea on some things. They tried to
pave the way in case Ashton Janty dropped.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
They tried to pave the way for a runway to
kind of look at that that would make. But they
were not moving up for the tight ends.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
They were not trying to trade up to get Colston Loveland,
who a funny anecdotic side was branding cattle in Iowa,
I mean in Idaho, by the way.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
What an anecdote there.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
But they listened to an offer at twenty, the New
York Giants were looking to come up.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
They eventually did for Jackson Dark.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
They listened to an offer there at twenty and rejected
it because they felt like that they had a purple
sticker guy or you know whatever, you're a six point
oh ten point oh greade guy. You had a guy
that you felt was an absolute first round locked guy.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Uh, and you needed to take him there.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
And happened to be sort of a position to need that.
You know, you'd identify this lot corner position and kind
of was something you wanted in this draft where you
got there. Uh was we've seen and they view this
guy as the next Chris Harris. I mean, you know,
in terms of that kind of star power at the position.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
So if Jade wasn't there, would they have traded back
with the Giants with the offer not really up to
the level that.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
They were hoping for?
Speaker 3 (09:17):
I didn't.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
I don't really get a conclusive answer on that. I
think they I think they would have probably traded back.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
But it was like it wasn't a wow bit of
hindsight thing.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
You know, It's just like, what, well, at that point
in time, we knew who we kind of liked in
that position, it would have been a running back.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
But you know it was our guy was following.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Him once he got past Miami. Our eyes were on
that guy. Okay, so once because they had n't pegged
in Miami. So once once he got past Miami, he
was there.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Dude, you know, and David to the pick.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
We all, I think we're a little bit surprised. It's
not to say that we don't think he's a great player.
It could be special here. I think there's a natural
tendency you get filled a little bit of tunnel vision
on we're thinking offense.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
We've been talking offense now for months.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
So I'd say for me, it was a pretty quick
turnaround on how excited.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I was for it. But I will say I was
a little surprised last night when they took him at twenty.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah. I think that that's obvious. I think that, and
it's okay to be surprised. I think we all were surprised.
I don't think any of us a matter of fact,
I know none of us sat here and said, you know,
I think they may be looking in the secondary. I mean,
you know, that's the beauty of the NFL draft. The
guys upstairs get or do their work. And as I've
(10:32):
said before, this team since Sean Payton got here, is
as tight lipped as any team I think in the NFL.
They don't give out information, and any information that they
do give out they do with a reason as they're
trying to mislead, as Sean talked about last year with
the Vikings. So yeah, the fact that we were shocked,
I think it's okay, But I just think you go
(10:56):
after if it's like Vin said, if they had him
as a top ten player and here he sits at twenty, right,
that's yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
And it was I mean, like I said, they had won,
they had a call with a decent offer, they just
dismissed it.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
We're like, no, we got it. We gotta take this guy.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
So and we see time after time the teams that
we tend to laud their draft picks, the Ravens, the Eagles,
I'm trying to think Lions recently with their new regime,
they just take good players. They just often just, hey,
we're gonna take good players, even it's a position of strength.
You really don't find yourself in a bad spot by
just taking talent.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Well, it's like it's our good friend Randy Mueller, a
former general manager for executive the year in the NFL.
They used to tell me, hey, man, you take good
football players.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
One day you're gonna wake up and have a good
football team.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
It's really almost that simple. Now, you got to you
got to get the quarterback. You started a whole bunch
of football, really good football players, and if you don't
have that guy, then you're probably not gonna win. But
I think what Ben said is is absolutely true. Ozzie
Newsoen was a team andate of mine for I don't know,
seven or eight years, and I think probably as good
a gem in this league as we have ever had.
(12:02):
He is retired, but he's not really retired. It's still
very much involved with the Ravens. If you look at
his drafts over the years, I mean, Ozzie was not
necessarily about position. He was about fortifying the roster with
just what Ben said, good football players, and this kid,
I think I just just being around him and watching
(12:24):
how he handles himself, I would be shocked if he
does not turn out to be a really good pick
for the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Very exciting stuff. Well again, I think that in the
moment after the fact. We can debate and discuss on
whether or not we think that this guy will be
what he is, But the fact is, I mean, the
Broncos got better, and I think that the Broncos are
betting on all those characteristics for the reason, and I'm
certainly excited to see how it plays out now today.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Yeah, you got two draft picks today, you got fifty one.
I want to say it's eighty five off the top
of my head, but you got two draft picks today
in the second and third round. I don't know. We're
early in the process, Dave. I'll start with you. I mean,
what do you want accomplish the running back?
Speaker 3 (13:07):
I'll tell you what. I will be as surprised.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I could really get the words out of my mouth.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
You don't take a running back with one of those
two picks, as I would be surprised if Shade Baron
doesn't turn out to be a really good player. I
think it's a running back heavy class the meets today, though. Yeah,
I think I'll just say this. I think the Broncos
will look there and I would be surprised if you
(13:36):
don't have a new running back or an additional running
back after today's broadcast.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
I mean, you know, people keep asking me if Trayvon
Henderson's in the picture.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I think you got to get to thirty eighth to.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Getting and I don't know that they I don't know
that they want to spend the AMMO what would take
to do that? You're breaking hearts, breaking my own. But
you know, there are some good running backs that are
outside that you got Queen Show, Judkins who still out there?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
R J.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Harvey out of Central Florida, still out there. You know
you've killing Sampson, Killing Sampson DJ.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Me he's an interesting guy from Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
A few times.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Yeah, I would, just because I was looking at some
of the things Tennessee uh did on offense last year,
breaking them down from from the all twenty two and
uh man oh man. Uh he's he's got great quickness
in the hole and he breaks I mean he's not
he's not a huge back, right, he's two hundred pounds
maybe or in that category, two hundred two oh five.
(14:31):
He breaks a lot of tackles, and these were tackles
in the SEC. So I think that's the name that
that people should keep in the back of their mind.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, he'd little a.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Smaller guy like you said, like he's like a five
nine five eight two hundred pounds, But yeah, but he's
he's got that quick cutting, that quick twitch that'll that'll
leave you, leave you with some ankles.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
That are hurting.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
So yeah, I'm in the Caleb Johnson at Iowa will
go on day two.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
So Tudent's gonna go today.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
By the way, don't you really don't believe he goes
to the Broncos, but he will go today. Wow, he's
gonna He's one of those ones that league a little
hig than fans and media.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
But I mean, you mentioned the death right, so Traveon Henderson,
I think is what a lot of Broncos fans dream
situation would be. But you have the Bears who have
a couple of picks.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
They got thirty eight to forty and I think you,
I mean thirty nine and forty one, excuse me, And
I think you got to get to thirty eight because
I think they're going to.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Takehim a one of those two picks you've got. Let's
hear it.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
We got the browns of two picks, so theoretically they
could be looking at it the Bears of two picks
the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
I don't think the Browns are looking necessarily at running back.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Yeah, I think you're going to see a tight I mean,
excuse me, a wide receiver in one of those two picks,
and then the other one.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
I would be surprised if it was an offensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Okay, all right, the Cowboys theoretically might I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
I think grows of a wild card.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
But I say that's really it unless you have, like
the Jets or something suddenly decided to take a running back.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
But I mean that that'd be the group in front
of you.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
But if we always sit here and say, well Quinn
Shawn Judkins will be there at fifty one, or you
trade it for Trevion Henderson, what route would you take?
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Well, it depends on what you you have to do
to get up to get Trevion Henderson. So thirty eight
and then what you the disparity between how you view
these two players.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
I mean, you know I'm asking you me personally.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Oh man, I might make the move. I like Travion
Henderson that much. He's the guy doesn't fumble the ball,
he falls forward. He's not the most powerful guy, but
he does break tackles. He catches so well out of
the backfield. The pass bro is there.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
To me, he's the next most complete guy. Uh that's left.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
And I might make that move because I believe in that.
I'll be okay with which John John kinds. I'd be
okay with some of these other guys. But I love
the idea, you know, like I date all these guys,
but I'd marry Travion Henderson.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Look at you.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
We got that on audio. Wow, that's crave that one,
you know.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
And I'm proud of you just having the gumption to
state your case.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah, I can't wait. I can't wait till they drafted.
But we could say, you know what I mean, have
something you want to say to you.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I've always known you're a little confused, but the fact
that you would say and on radio, I think I'm
proud of you.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
All these times I've been talking about being a grinder,
it's see, it's the app there's nothing wrong with it.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
You're a little confused. You know, it's not a secret really,
so apparently not just like the episode of Sign for
where George.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
And jar with anything wrong with that to be proud
of it?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
And you know what somebody's gonna believe this too, how
about you, Dave.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
I mean, of those two options, and again there's no running.
I'm saying trade up for Trev out of thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
I don't know. I mean, I really don't know. Because
I I like Henderson a lot. I think I think
his value, at least based on how I view him,
is more in the passing game. I'm not saying he
can't run it, because he has been an effective runner
at Ohio State. He's he's a he's an above average
(17:37):
pass protection guy, which you know at any level, but
especially this one is important for coaches to believe it.
Like if you're if you're lined up next to bon
Knicks and third down and you're not involved in the
route initially, do you have the physical First of all,
you've got to understand fronts and where pressures come from.
But then after you understand it, do you have the
(17:58):
physical ability to stick your helmet under a two hundred
and forty five pound linebackers ten and hang in there?
And a lot of it is technique, but there's a
certain amount of like want to that not every back has.
So I think he's pretty.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Good in that in that department one of the best
in this drafts.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Yeah, so I like him. I just I also like
picking good football players and not I mean theoretically, to
go from like fifty one, let's say thirty eight, you're
talking probably about a future.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Two, Well, you're giving up fifty one.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
If you plus an additional two, you're giving up, Well, you're.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Giving your fifty one.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
You get up, you're eighty five, and you're probably getting
back like as a six six to make it it.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I mean, that's work. That's I mean, that's that much
fifty plus eighty five.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
For for for thirty eight plus one New England, so
they it'd be one. So the difference in in it's
one hundred and thirty.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Yeah, so one hundred and thirty would be like your
fourth year, you get third, Like, yeah, I mean for
sure your third, but I think you're getting a pick back.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
In that it's and then you're getting a sixth rounder
back in that round. You know, it'll be whatever because
New England's got to pick in the one second.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Probably is this a good draft to have a third
round pick in?
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah, you're right, that's a good point. That's good point.
As much as I love Henderson, I don't want to.
Will you take a future third? I agree, you know
kind of thing.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
I agree because the third is also George Bayden's bread
and butter around. We've seen him clean up in the
third round of the draft.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
All right, Well, we obviously will spend a good portion
of the next couple of hours. The second round of
the NFL Draft starts at five o'clock Wolf coverage all
the way until eleven o'clock tonight, five six six nine
zeros are ka Common Spirit Health text line. If you
want to interact with not only the selection of Jade
Brown Baron, I said Brown Baron, or talk about what
you want to see the Broncos do here on day two.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
We'll get to all of that coming up next.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
You're also going to hear an exclusive interview with Voice
the Broncos, Dave Logan and Baron coming up next right
here on KA.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Of your Choice on the KOA X page.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Enter before four o'clock on Saturday, before the conclusion of
ko's Broncos NFL Draft coverage.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Go check it out right now on the X page.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Earlier, we had a chance, well Voice the Broncos Dave
Logan had a chance to sit down with the newest
Denver Bronco first round pick, Jade barn And here's that conversation.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Shaday, Welcome to Denver. I talked to you a little
bit last night when you got to call from the
Broncos and they said, hey, listen, you're going to be
our first round draft choice. What two or three thoughts
immediately popped into your mind?
Speaker 2 (20:39):
It was all worth it.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
Every investment that I did, all the things that all
the places that my mom took me to go train,
taking me from Boston to basketball to track practice, the
football practice, it was all worth it, and it was
all for her. I allowed her to invite anybody she
wanted to yesterday, So you've seen a lot of people
back there and it was hard day and I wanted
her to enjoy that. My mom, she she meant everything
(21:03):
to me. So when they told me that, I knew
I could change my mom's life forever.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
You know, you played a lot of positions at UT
and I want to ask you, Obviously the club will decide,
but where do you see yourself in terms of an
NFL secondary guy?
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Honestly, you know they're smarter than me. They're gonna put
me just like where the staff at Texas. They put
me to benefit the team, to benefit myself and and ultimately,
but to benefit the team. So I know this staff here,
They're going to put me where needed, wherever they put me.
I'm a master to that, and I'm gonna work on
that craft. I'm gonna do what I need to do
and own my role for the team.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
So when you were in high school, you had to
play some offense. Right, where did you play?
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I played receiver, okay, all right, No running back.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
So I was running back up to tenth grade my
whole life. I just start playing defensive back until I
was tenth grade. My first first time I started playing
safety tenth grade, going into tenth grade.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Wow, I was at your press conference here a little
bit earlier today. It seemed like you've got a real
sort of calm demeanor to you, And I want to
ask you, where where does that come from? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (22:10):
Again, my confidence, but my confidence is getting just understanding
who I'm gloring. Fine, I'm not. I won't be stressed
out there. I don't go out there scared. I don't
go out there worrying. I give all my worries to him.
I might have my past to come the other day
for the draft, and he talked about being a lion.
You know, a lion, someone's tough. He's going to give
you everything he has, and it's the time where a
(22:31):
lion rests, when you rest. Yesterday was I can't do anything.
I can't control anything. I already did the things I
can control. I controlled the controllables, and it got me
to the point where I was at yesterday, and that
was God yesterday. You know that all that was God yesterday,
him placing me to his position where he most believed
and he knew I.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Was fit for. And then that was all him.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
He orchestrated that. He put me here with Broncos Country.
It's gonna be amazing.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
I think that that's an awesome answer. Last couple, when
you when you you know, when you're in college, it's
it's it's it's like a business, it's work. You're worried
about the next opponent. You're watching film. Did you ever
find yourself being able to watch, like extensively watch NFL games,
and if so, who did you enjoy watching.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
I watched a lot of guys again. I watched PS two.
You know, you know my coach, he watched NFL tape
all day. He'll tell me the things that he was doing,
a lot of great things that he was doing, So
always watching him and stuff like that. I'm real good
friends with PJ. I worked out with him. I met
PJ Lock when I was in tenth grade.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Yeah, I was in tenth grade and working out with
his uncle. We're working at Houston. I'm literally like doing
conditions Prince with with PJ Lock. I was in tenth grade.
So I got to see him today, Uh, and it
was just exciting and exciting feeling.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
You know.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Those are the guys that I looked up to when
I was in when I was a little kid, when
I was in high school and things like that, and
they were they were playing at UT. I was the
one to put on the burn orange after them. So
it's just fun that I get to put on another orange.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
So yeah, absolutely, I'll get you out of here on this.
Give for for Broncos fans, and we have a lot
of them to listen to this show. Give me two
or three things that you bring to this club that
maybe people might not know and until they see it,
I think.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
My connectivity, you know, I connect very well. I respect
everybody I treat everybody saying from the from the janitor
to the president, and that's big. That's how my mom
raised me to always give that out. Must respect and
you see without most respect, and that'll take you further
than football. So I think that's big. And then to
just my love, my love for the game. But I
won't even say his love for the game. It's just
(24:34):
understanding that I'm going and find God.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
I can't.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
I wouldn't be here without him. I'm not a fool,
it says, don't be a full I still have to
work for the things. But at the end of the day,
God's gifted me with disability and with disability to go
out there and do things that I do. God's gifted
everybody with the ability. He's gifted you with the ability
to be able to do what you're doing today.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
And it's our job to do the best we can
to the fullest.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
But at the end of the day, he did gift
us with disability. And then three just just my want
to the essence, you know, me staying committed to what
I said I'll do long after the move has changed.
So I know it'd be rough days. It'll be tough
days and it'd be hard days and things like that.
But if I can just keep keep my mind focused
and just understanding I missed a long term goal, but
(25:18):
just staying committed to the process. You know, the process.
It'll be the result the process. What you put in,
You're gonna get what you put in and it'd come out.
So just always just keep gring and just keep going
that that.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Is a fact. Hey, listen, congratulations, welcome to Demer. Appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
All.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Right, there you go.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
That was Jean Baron who was speaking with Voice the
Broncos Dave Logan and again we'll find that interview on
demand at Kocolorado dot com or a completely free and
it's totally awesome. I heart radio app five six six
nine zeros or koa comments Spurity Health text line if
you want to interact with it. I love this first
one right here. It says, wow, the hair is standing
up on the back of my neck.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Nicely done, and I mean I couldn't agree more. Dave,
just just listening to him talking to you there a
moment ago.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
It's it's just such a cool vibe and it kind
of me a little bit of when patzer Tan first
got here.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
They just had this. There's a maturity, a vibe to
him that that you really appreciated and knew that he
kind of just got it.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Yeah, I think. I mean anybody that heard that. And
again seeing him during his press conference, he handled every
single question, uh, the right way, very smooth. I mean,
you got to be able to play. Of course you can't,
you can't talk your way into and through this league.
But I think this kid can play. And I just
I'm impressed with his demeanor and how poised he is,
(26:42):
how bright he is. And again I I just salute
and maybe there were maybe there were others involved, but
I don't know. I'm sure there were, And I'm going
to you know, that's that's you know that's going out
over the.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Are you yeah? All that noise?
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Yeah, and so stop it. So I just know there
are other people involved. But I'm going to salute his mom,
single mom. Yes, he's given her a lot of credit.
But you you don't just show up at your first
press conference and handle yourself that way unless you have
had a lot of support and love and coaching and teaching,
(27:23):
and so kudos to mom.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Perfectly said. What were some of your takeaway from the interview.
I mean, he's just a sharp, particulate guy with a plan.
And I think at that age.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Having a plan, I think watching guys that have a
plan at that age, watching that guys who are organized
to have their goals stated and are goal oriented at
that age, I think that's big. I think that's a
show of maturity.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
He said he talks into the mirror every morning, yeah,
and states his goal yes.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
Yeah, thinking we can all learn from that, right, having
the process down and having a plan like that, I mean,
that's a huge maturity thing, and that's you know, I
think that goes to show a I mean to credit
his mother again how he was raised right to implement
that system and then be how he's got his head
on straight, like this is the way that I'm going
to do things.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
I have a logic oriented process.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
I have the process and an end game and an
idea of how to how to marry those two up.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
And I think that's huge. Yeah. I wonder if you
could do something like that. It would never work. I tried,
it didn't stick. That's why you said why I recognize it.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
In others you stare in front of the mirror and say,
you know what today I'm gonna stare it for the mirror.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Today, I'm gonna put on adult clothes. You know, I tried.
I threw on this out that I almost missed, and
you know, I'm going to.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Hurry it down here today I'm gonna wear pants that
actually go down below my ankles.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Look, when you got it, you gotta flaud it.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
Is that what this is?
Speaker 2 (28:39):
And even if you don't got it, you got to
float it. So is that what this is? You own
pants that fit you? That fitch is fine, this is
what the pants supposed to fit.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
I think, you know, again, it's just there's a maturity
about him that and it's not always there. I mean,
we've seen some first rounders around here that don't have
that going on. I'm trying to be you know, but
charitable here, but they don't have that going on. And
so I think I think that's the biggest takeaway. I
hope that his Denver Broncos experience and the tape here
(29:12):
matches the person that they just interviewed.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
You know, Yeah, yeah, I think it will. I mean
I think me too.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I have no reason to think just based I mean,
forget about how he handles himself, just based on his tape.
I have no reason to think that guy is not going.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
To be a really good player, right and then separate
from that, just from the interview and the comments, you're
rooting for the guys very easy to root for.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I think when we developed this relationship a little bit
more because he said he's good friends with Matthew McConaughey.
Trying to figure out a way to get Matthew Cone
into the booth to hang out with you and Rick sometime.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
I think that might be some fun.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I think it would be great for this. I need
say hey, love Matthew, MA that's.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Just say you want to you want to hang out
with us for a little bit in the booth and
call a little bit of the game and secret.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
I think this would be a great opportunity for taking
me to take my shirt off on this broad That's Bill.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's the same voice. Really, it's the same.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
It's the same.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
It's the same impression. He's gonna get the Texas whistle
in there. It's the same impression. Get that Arkansas down,
don't you.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Also? I asked him off off the interview, I said, hey,
I coached one of your teammates, Gunner Helm in high school.
This kid, he like stopped and looked. He said, absolutely
love that guy. I want to show you a text
that I sent him yesterday after I got drafted.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
He's that guy.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
I mean, he he was raving about gunner Helm It.
It just shows you he's I mean, he's situationally aware
of a lot of different things. You love people that
are like that.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Oh yeah, maybe we can.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Get a little peaches and herb and get it, get
him reunited and it feels so good.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Was it Herb or was it Herb?
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I go, I'm Herb.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Although when I'm talking about the peaches and herbs.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
When'm when I'm when I'm talking about you know, like chicken.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
It's herbs and spices. I don't say herbs.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
So when I say her name, I say Herb. But
when I say you know the other thing, I say
her it's not like it's Herbert. I mean, isn't it
short for Herbert?
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Herbert? I don't know this.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Take the people with the jiff and the gift thing,
it's not a gift.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
If you throw a key on the end, it's not
a gift. It's not a Christmas jift.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Like this, you've actually worked on some of this stuff.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
This texture right here before we hit the break, been
looking in the mirror. Today is the day I wake
up a little less confused.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
I'm not sure you know, I'm I'm gonna leave it forever,
but I'm not sure that mydness.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
So yeah, I'm yeah, very proud, with a lot of pride, a.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Lot of Today's a big day.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Is a very big day.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
This hour, chance you would one thousand dollars coming over
in the next five minutes thanks to Map.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
We'll begin at five o'clock.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
We'll bring you the Picks Analysis to Broncos with two
picks today.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Do you ever cover Heart in your musical career?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Never covered Heart?
Speaker 1 (32:06):
I respect Heart like mart I do like Heart, But yeah,
that's like one of those especially me as a male singer.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
I don't know justice.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
You don't think you could you could get up with
Nancy Wilson. What you're saying.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
It feels like you're daring be a little bit here.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Well, no, I was just trying to you know him.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
No, I get you know, I learned early on. We
got that, Thank God, we got that.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
He's one of those things like I learned early on
because I remember I was trying to cover an Eagles
song one time, right in Don Henley. Yeah, and this
guy was booing me like actively, but it's like, yes,
he was.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Booing me the audience and.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yelling at me.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
I was just trying to you know, he's yelling at me.
He's like, you should not be covering this. You can't
you you were you were destroying this song. And I
was like, I was doing like my version of it
because I can't sing Don Henley's ring.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Listen nobody really, that's right, sing Don.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
So I was doing like a version of Hotel California
or something.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
I can't eve remember what I was doing at the time,
but I was doing one of Lion something and and yeah,
the guy was just heckling me, and then I got off.
I'm like, hey, what was your deal man? He's like
that was awful. He's like, you should not be covering
Don Henley. I was like, okay, was he faded? Oh yeah,
faded faded.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I tell you that I saw I saw the Eagles.
Of course. Henley was performing in Las Vegas recently at
the Sphere. He is seventy five years old, and let
me tell you something, so got it. Yes, he can
still I mean normally, you know, I mean you you've
been a singer. Normally you get to a point I
think in your your life where you just you can't.
(33:48):
Your voice just isn't the same. His might might have
been affected a little bit with age, but very minutely
he can still sing. Yep, that's Joe Walsh seventy two. Yeah,
that's they were excellent.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
That's remarkable. Yeah, that's cool. I get the Eagles are
a little overrated, but otherwise I think that they have
some a couple of bits.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Yeah, okay, yeah, okay, said the guy that got heckled
by somebody who's been drinking perhaps flew ribbon. You murdering
right now?
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Yeah, from then on, I was done with the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
We we kind of have to take a quick break.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
But I do want to ask you about Shadoor Dave
in the fact that he did not get drafted in
the first round, with boy months of speculation.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
About where he would go.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Now we have another hour or so to see where
he's ultimately going to end up. I think he gets
drafted today, but I want to get both of your
thoughts on that. We'll come back weirdly and live from
Broncos Park, powered by common spirit on Kawa
