the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line eight five to nine
two A twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
It could be our Whiskey Thief call of the day.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
You can also send us a text at five h
two two six five six six five six. And the
KSR pre Show is being brought to you by Italian Italics.
Find Italian downing in Lexington. I had some Italian over
the weekend. Good stuff. Got to get out to Italics though,
I've still got to get out there. One of these days.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I will be.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Enjoyed by Billy Rutledge, who is in Lexington. I'm in Louisville.
Good morning, Billy. How are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
It's great to be with you, Shannon.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
It was great that my house did not get struck
by lightning last night, as we had some crazy storms.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
We did too. Yeah, we had a tornado warning at
one point. I'm like, yeah, I'm glad I got a basement.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
It was a warning.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
It was a warning, yeah, which you know, that's now
two tornadoes that I've dodged so far this year, the.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
One on the way to Milwaukee and the one last night.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Well, you know, this place has become tornado Alley, so
it's more and more coming. I think twenty thousand people
were without power in the Louisville area at one point
last night. So you know, thoughts that everybody and repairing
power lines this morning and trying to get back running
a lot of basketball this weekend, Shannon, I'm sure we'll
(01:20):
get to it.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
How was your weekend?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
It it felt like it was a week long, Like
the weekend was so long because you know, of course
it started on Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
After the show, we drive up to Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
The traffic was terrible, Like I don't know what was
going on, but the traffic was awful. We had to reroute.
At one point, I was concerned that we weren't even
going to make it to the.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Pregame show now. It was so bad.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
But luckily, here's the thing, Like I was traveling with Ryan,
and Ryan has this droid, and I guess droids don't
have the ability to download certain apps.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I don't know how droids work.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
I don't have one of these things, but he is
like on his Google Maps and it's just like, clearly
there is bumper to bumper traffic, and his Google Maps
is just telling them, now, dude, just keep going straight
right faster.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
So I'm like, man, we may even need to like
get there on toime.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Let me pull up the Ways app and see what
Ways is saying about this situation. And I'll pull up
the Ways app, which Ryan does not have on his
phone apparently, and I go, yeah, this is we need
to get around this or we're not going to make
it to the pregame show. So I'm just saying I
want to pat myself on the back because if it
weren't for me, I think that Ryan would still be
in traffic on his way to Indianapolis because my man
(02:29):
was going to stick with that Google Maps app and
it was just telling him to just go right down
the middle of the road, right in.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
The middle of traffic.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
So luckily we got there, and Billy, when we did
get there, I gotta tell you, I was so blown
away with how many Kentucky fans just seemed to take
over the entire city. It was kind of like Nashville
all over again. I mean, maybe not quite to that extent.
But the big Blue Nation showed up, Blue got in
and that ten roof pregame show.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I know you were producing it.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
You probably saw some of the video that was going
around that we posted it on social media, But man
was it was a wild atmosphere in there for the
pregame show and a lot of fun even though the
season ended, It was a lot of fun on Friday
before the game started.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah, no, wonder you had such an issue getting to
Indye because of all the traffic. After I saw the
videos from the tin roof pregame show, it felt like
half of Lexington traveled down to go and see that game.
It if standing room only in that tin roof. We
were asking if it was going to be like a
Nashville crowd, and I think it absolutely was packing Indianapolis.
(03:30):
That excitement that this team in this program had not
been to the Sweet sixteen since twenty nineteen.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
And you know, we don't have to talk about the game,
but well we'll get.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Into it an in just a minute.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Yeah, we'll get into Yeah, it was it was overall
I think that is. You know, you can point to
that pregame show as you know, one of the main
reasons why I think so many are excited about this program.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Again, so I absolutely love this fan base. I've said
it over and over. Best fan base in sports, Big
Blue Nation, nothing like it. But before we get to
the game, you know, I got to continue talking about
the other aspects of the trip, okay, because you know,
Ryan and I we got there, you know, just minutes
to spare before we went on the pregame show.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
So then after we hang out for a little bit
at ten.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Roof, it's time to go to the game, right, got
to get over there and watch the game. So we
we walk over from ten Roof to Lucas Oil Stadium,
short walk. But when we get there, Billy, we're trying
to find like where's the media entrance? You know, and
Lucas Oil Stadium is a massive stadium. I don't know
if you've seen it before, but it's it's a massive stadium.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
So we walked to where we think, you know, the
media might be, and we're asking employees along the way, like, hey,
where's the media area. We asked probably twenty employees. Not surprisingly,
not one seemed to have a clue where the media
entrance was. So Billy, when I tell you, we started
at one corner of Lucas Oil Stadium and we walked
and we walked and we walked. We got to the
(04:49):
next side of the stadium. They're like, no, not here.
So we walked to the other side of the stadium. Nope,
not here. We did a complete three sixty around the
building of Lucas Oil Stadium, just trying to get into
this place, and it like we would have been better
off just taking a right. Instead we went left and
did a full lap around Lucas Ostadium. So at this
(05:09):
point now we're like sweating, We're out of breath. We've
put in fifty thousand steps just to get there, and
we go. You know what, we finally got in. I
know the game's about the start. I'm starving. Let's take
advantage of this. You know, we're credential media, so we
got to take advantage of this free food that we get.
We'll watch the first half of the game back here
in the press area. They got a nice big flat
(05:30):
screen TV. It's kind of quiet. We can eat our food.
We'll watch the first half here, right, so at least
we're in the stadium. It's more than some people from
KOs arkinsay, so like, you only have so many options
on the menu, and one album is a chili dog
and the other ones like chili cheese nachos. I think
Ryan ended up getting both of them and Billy within
(05:51):
minutes of Ryan getting his food, I look over and
he is wearing half of his chili dog right down
the shirt, like he's got chili dog all over I'm like, Ryan,
look at you, man, He's completely oblivious watching the game,
the chili running down his face, dripping on his shirt.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I go, You've got chili all over you.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
So by the time that we could even really get
into the game, Kentucky's down fifteen points and Ryan's got
chili all over him. It was not a good start
to Indianapolis on Friday night, and unfortunately it didn't get
much better from there.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
But the man couldn't help himself. He was starving.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, and you know, chili dogs obviously come with the
possibility of making a mess. A little surprising it that
was about the only options they had. I mean, media there,
it was just chili dogs and chili nacho you.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Know, like where they do well. I got a pretzel too,
and that's part of this story too. Because we're eating
right there where they do like the postgame press conference,
you know when they bring out the three players and
the coach and I look over we're sitting there in
the front row watching the game, and there's like there's
nachos all over the floor, and then there's like all
(06:54):
this salt from my pretzel that's all over the floor.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I'm like, man, we got to get out of here, or.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
We got to get a vacuum and clean the place
up before they kick us out of here, because we
came in here. It looks like we just came here
to Lucas Oil Stadium to eat. Like we had an
absolute mess of the first row of the press conference room.
Like we got to like, we got to get out
of here before somebody like throws us out of this place.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
It sounds a little bit like the White House press
briefing room show that you guys did where there's people
in you know, suits and trying to be you know,
get ready for this important press conference coming up and
you guys are doing a live radio show there, or
you know, spilling cheese and salt on the ground and.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
A couple of kids.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Man, I'm like, yeah, exactly, this is embarrassing. I want
to go to step away from this, pretend it's not
even happening.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Well, it sounds like the vibes weren't right from the very.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Back, and they weren't, and Kentucky was never in the game.
So you know, they're down fifteen at halftime, and I go,
we got to like mix this up a little bit.
Let me actually go out into the stadium and see
what's going on. When you walk out into the stadium, Billy,
I don't know if you've ever been in like a
football stadium that they use for a basketball arena. They
cut the stadium in half, so when you walk through
the tunnel, like the back part is all just empty
(08:01):
seats because they're not using those seats and they've got
it curtained off. You walk through the black curtain, there's
the game, there's the you know, the rest of the
stadium that's full. So I've never been to a game,
a basketball game in a football arena before.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
What'd you think I thought it was? It was weird, Like.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
The lighting was kind of weird. It was it was
kind of cool. You know, the floor was raised, the
benches were below the floor level.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
It was sort of weird, and.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
There's some bad seats there, right, Like, I mean, you
could spend a lot of money on a seat that
you would need binoculars to see from right.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
So I mean and again, same seating situation. Didn't know
where to sit. I look over, Oh there's Jerry Eves. Yeah,
you're the guy that makes me get up at five
thirty in the morning. I'm gonna go sit by you.
I produce this show every morning. I'm gonna go sit
by Jerry. And I've tried to, you know, uh think
that maybe sitting with Jerry Eves maybe would change things
(08:50):
up and Kentucky would start playing better in the second half.
Didn't happen, But regardless, had great seats, and uh, well,
I guess we can. We can talk about the game
now if you want to. But Billy, this is one
of those games that Kentucky just never was in it.
From the very beginning. It just looked like things were off.
It just wasn't their night.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Tennessee jumps out to a lead, and when they got
it to fifteen, it felt like the game just stayed
at fifteen from.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
There on out.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
You know, they cut it down to I think eleven
or twelve at one point. But the problem was every
time Kentucky had an answer, and they had a good
stretch there in the second half where they scored on
like five straight possessions or something like that six but
Tennessee always had an answer. They got a hold of
every loose ball and just dominated at the boards, and
that was kind of the story of the game.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Yeah, I think he hit the nail on the head
on a couple things there, loose balls. It felt like
Tennessee got every single one of them. Rebounding, I mean,
Kentucky had twelve defensive rebounds. Tennessee had eleven offensive rebounds.
I mean that was Kentucky had some really great sequences
on defense. You know, like they'd play good defense for
twenty five thirty seconds and they would just give up
(09:56):
an offensive rebound and a put back bucket.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
It was really demoralized. Another stat was bench points.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Tennessee had twenty six, Kentucky had six, and in the past,
where you've had you know, twenty five and twenty in
the two NCAA Tournament games before it. In bench points,
I mean, that's that's a huge factor. And obviously Tennessee
came very motivated into that game, losing twice to Kentucky.
Rick Barnes really had a great game plan for Kobe Brea.
(10:22):
He wasn't given in a lot of space. I will
come in, Lamont, Butler man, he was hitting those threes,
four or five from three led the team with I
believe it was eighteen points.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But that's my biggest criticism of the game though. What
didn't shoot enough threes? Who Lamont No, Well, just the
team in general of the team in Jai. I mean,
how many threes? How many at take you?
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Were they six of fifteen?
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Okay, fifteen?
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Again, that goes back to the whole game plan for
the entire season that we heard we're gonna shoot thirty
five threes a game.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
You come out and shoot fifteen.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I understand at some point you got to take what
they give you, but I mean they weren't giving you
much to begin with, and when you're trailing like that,
I think got to go all in on the three
and they just didn't take enough. Well, I want Braya
to take ten alone on his own, yeah, and the
teams take fifteen.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
He didn't make a single shot after he made what
was it the first basket of the game for Kentucky.
I mean he went one of seven for the field,
only five points on the night. And in the two
Tennessee games previously, Kentucky was twelve of twenty four from
deep in both of those games. So to only make
six out of fifteen is definitely disappointed or disappointing. But
(11:29):
then you realize that you know the season is over
after this loss, and you know, Lamont Butler and Mark
Pope are sharing a special moment in the in the
walk in the hallway, and Andrew gar is saying how
difficult it is to take off his shoes in his jersey,
and Kobe Bray is saying he's going to have to
fight an equipment manager to keep his jersey. And it's
it's so tough the other side of losses in this
(11:50):
NCAA tournament, because it's the end of a basketball career
for a lot of these guys that probably won't play
professionally or at a high level like.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
This ever again.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
So and even if the finality of the tournament is
is pretty tough.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
There's no doubt even if and I said this on
the postgame show the other night, even if they do,
you know, if they go play overseas in a different league,
it's not going to be anything like what they experienced
here at Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
With these fans, there's just nothing like it.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I mean, again, I keep saying it is the best
fan based in sports, not just college basketball, in sports.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
You're not going to get another group of fans.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
They're going to follow you from city to city and
show up and you know, cheer the team on in
the support like they get here at Kentucky. No matter
where they go from here, it's just it's special here.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
And I was surprised by how much gratitude and optimism
I felt after this loss. And I mean even though
it was a bad loss to your rival in an
iconic game. I mean, you've never played Tennessee in the
NCAA tournament. It's one that they'll be able to hold
over you for a while. But I think there is
no doubt that this is the beginning of something great.
You know, I think Mark Pope is way exceeded expectations
(12:56):
in his first year, and you know the fact that
he'll have time to recruit this next roster and now
the world has taken notice of what he can do.
I don't know, Shandon, I mean, I don't know if
that was everybody's first takeaway after the game. I mean,
it was obviously a devastating loss, but I could not
help but think of the.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Entire season as a whole instead of that game.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, and that's what Pope said in that postgame presser
that he did with Oay and carr and and Brea.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
It was a bra Yeah. I think it was brat. Yeah,
those are the three guys that were up there.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
That those guys laid the foundation for what's ahead, and
that we're going to be talking about this team ten
years from now and look back and go that first
team that got this whole thing off to a great start,
going to the Sweet sixteen and their first year with
Mark Pope. This is the team we're going to be
talking about. And you know, that was the first time
I'd ever been to one of those postgame press conferences,
and with it.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Being the last one of the year, it was kind
of sad.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
It was kind of a sad vibe, but it was
also you know, I think it really cool what Butler
said about Pope because there at the end the press
conference was winding down, nobody had any more questions, and
Butler just said, hey, man, can I just jump in
here and you know, just talk about Mark Pope for
a minute. You know, he's talking about how great Mark
Pope did this year and how much Kentucky has changed
(14:11):
his life. You know, none of these guys, I would
dare say ever thought they would have the chance to
play for Kentucky. And Mark Pope comes in as the
coach takes a chance on these guys and you can
just feel the appreciation that they all have for having
this year here at Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Yeah, and Andrew carrs like, if you're in the transfer portal,
come to Kentucky. I mean, these guys loved their time here,
and I think of a guy like Ansley Almanor who
was just so appreciative of his time. But you know,
let's not limit it to just players. How many times
has Matt talked about or just somebody on this show
talked about reigniting my UK fandom this season and just
(14:47):
bringing me back. And it's just been so bad over
these past few years. I mean, maybe this is a
team that ten years from now and Pope has had
some very good and big successes in the tournament, in
the SEC tournament that they did lay the foundation and
proved that this offense that we were panicking about when
Mark Pope was hired and a YouTube video about video
(15:10):
game like numbers kind of swayed this fan base. And
then the revival at rapp Arena. I mean, it was
just it's been such a process and to see this
fan base just become so enthralled with the team and
the program.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Again, it's just been very rewarding, don't you think.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Oh yeah, absolutely, So here we are the end of March.
March madness for us is over. So the summer shows
have officially begun.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Billy, Well, like, does your disinterest of the NCAA tournament start?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Like, didn't you watch.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
These games over the weekend?
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yes, yeah, yeah I did.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I'll still watch the final four and we'll talk about
that coming up on the other side of the break.
But I was about to say, uh, queue up the
food brackets and the non sports topics because we're gonna
have plenty of that ahead.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
And the Shannon vacation days you'll which starts start starting
next week.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Baby, I'll get away for it. Interesting. We'll tell you
how that was.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
We'll take your phone calls coming up next eight, five, nine,
two eighth, twenty two eighty seven The ksrpre Show, Welcome
Back Ksrpre Show Shannon and Billy eight five nine two
eight oho twenty two eighty seven. We'll get to your
calls in just a minute before we do, Billy, we
got an all number one seed final.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Four this year.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
I guess they got it right with the one seeds
for the first time since two thousand and eight. All
number one seeds in the final four. Tennessee, by the way,
came out looked like they had just played their first
game of basketball. I don't know who that team was yesterday.
I wish that team had showed up on Friday night
in Indianapolis. They only had fifteen points in the first half, Billy.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah, if Kentucky was down fifteen after the first half
versus Tennessee, Tennessee only scores fifteen in the entire first
half versus Houston, I'm not gonna lie. And I enjoyed it, Yeah,
I mean I had that game on. I was watching.
They were down what twenty by halftime, so it was
I definitely enjoyed that. But goes to show you that
that was their super Bowl beating Kentucky and the fan base,
(16:53):
you know, said that very thing online, So yep, any satisfaction.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
It definitely sucks to have your season ended by Tennessee,
but we can take a little bit of solids in
Tennessee still not making it to a.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Final four and all one seeds in the final four.
Who predicted that, Shannon Oh I did in our bracket?
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Shoh yeah, I don't want to talk about that bracket.
I think I'm in last place in our.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
Gree We were in dead last, So I will make
sure to talk about it a lot when it becomes final.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
The week that you were gone, you know, the Elita
eight games really weren't all that I guess Florida was
the best one, right, the other ones were kind of eh, like,
they weren't that great of games.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Well, how awesome was that comeback for Florida versus Texas Tech.
I mean they were down ten with like six minutes left,
and they showed you why they're so dangerous and why
more teams should be playing like Florida and Alabama and
that three point while Walter Clayton Junior just kind of
went off. But then, you know, I'm expecting Alabama Duke
to be this game for the books right one, an
(17:47):
all timer, and then Mark Sears just doesn't show up.
I mean, I don't know if they just had a
great game plan against them, but I I mean, my
guy was scored six points and thirty two minutes after
he scored like thirty plus the game before, so.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
It was That's why it's so hard to bet on
these teams too. I mean, you look at Alabama, who
comes out and hits twenty five to threes, sets an
NCAA tournament record, and then they can't throw it in
the ocean the next game. You know, Tennessee comes out
and you know Kentucky never was even in the game,
and then they come out and score fifteen points in
the next game.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
So you just never know.
Speaker 1 (18:18):

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Let's go to Kirk. What's up, Kirk?
Speaker 5 (18:55):
Hey, good morning guys. Since the season has been over alls,
I've heard on you and on the radio was portal
Poral portal, and I was just curious as to our
situation with high school players. I know we got the
Marino kid from Georgetown, but are we involved with any
good high school players?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Well, everything's been focused on the portal right now, You're right, Kirk.
You know, of course we got the freshmen that we
already know are coming in, but I haven't heard anything
outside of those players. Billy for incoming freshmen.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Well, I think Nate Ament is another name that I
think Kentucky fans would love to see in the Blue
and white. You know, Rick Patino had an interesting line
earlier this year where he said he wasn't going to
recruit any freshman. You know, I've got to replace these
twenty four to twenty five year olds. How can I
do it with eighteen year olds? But you know, Mark
Pope has shown that there is a place on the
roster for a few freshmen, maybe three or four. When
(19:49):
you have Jasper Johnson Malachai Moreno who just won the
boys sweet sixteen state championship over the weekend. So I
think you're not going to see much more than that.
I think they'd rather retain a couple players and then
go to the transfer portal.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Thanks for the call, Kirk, We appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, great Crossing by the way, right winning the uh,
winning the title they did.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
I a shout out and salute to my south Oldham
Dragons who made it to the final four. I ended
up going to the game and have somebody gave me
almost court side ticket chain.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
I mean, I had some great seats.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
But I feel like when your name is Great Crossing,
you're just destined for greatness, you know. I mean they're
not They're not good Crossing, Great cross They're Great Crossing.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
And uh, you know, I guess the third straight year
that we are going to be able to see somebody
win mister Kentucky basketball and then suit up in the
Blue and white, right, I mean Reed Shepherd, Travis Perry
now Malachai Moreno, Uh, he's going to be a freshman
and somebody that I think is gonna have a big
impact on this team next year. But congratulation to them,
and also Bowling Green who made it to the state
(20:48):
championship game over my Dragons. But a fun runner. I
got to watch more than a few games over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
And then you know, talking about the portal for Kentucky.
Of course we have the news already the Cam Williams
transferring from Tulane. You know, a guy that a lot
of people are saying best shooter in the portal. Is
it possible, Billy that Mark Pope has gotten in back
to back seasons the best shooter in the portal at
Kobe Braa this year, Cam Williams next year.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Well that was weird because they announced the addition of
Cam Williams from Tulane while Kentucky still had that game
versus Tennessee to play. I mean, was it Thursday or
Friday when that was announced, And it was like, the
season's not over yet and these guys have to shift
their focus to next year. So I mean you know,
I'm not sure. I don't know a lot about this guy.
I know he's a little bit taller, and he's athletic,
(21:33):
something that Kentucky has wanted a lot more of.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
He's six' eight and shoots forty one percent from. THREE i,
mean come, on that's not.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
BAD i don't know that at.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
All, no you know that to go along with maybe,
this this guy From, georgia Who i'm hearing a lot.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
About you, know.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Who knows these these pieces are going to fall and
fall quickly with that deadline of Next monday being when
the you, know the courts meet and, yeah and you
know the possibility of a cap being on the money
that you can. Make SO i don't know. This this
will be a fun week of speculation and who will
be on the roster next. Year but one guy we,
Know Travis, perry said he is going to return for his. Sophomore,
(22:09):
yeah we'll.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Talk about the returning guys in just a minute after the.
Break another guy that they have on their their watch
list for, transfers this guy FROM, lsu a Guard Victorious,
miller six,' five former top seventy five recruit out of,
high school and he had a stretch where he had
fifteen or more points and seven out of.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Eleven GAMES so i like the. First, Name, yeah victorious
it's a.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Good name we'll be right Back KSRPRE show Ksr pre
show eight five nine two eight h twenty two eighty
Seven and i'll get to the phones in just. A minute
but first, Of, all billy as we're, you know this
Is the monday after the end of, the season so
let's just kind of give our thoughts overall on on
what you thought about.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
The season i'll.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
GO first, i think, you know first, Of All mark
pope coming in and as we've talked about having to
throw this team together sort of a hodgepodge of transfers
and freshman and the way that he had to assemble
his coaching staff and do it in a, quick way
and to take this team all the way To the,
sweet sixteen, battling through as, we've said the toughest conference
(23:13):
that we've ever seen in. Our lifetime you throw In
The jackson, robinson injury you're Throwing the kerk, Creasea Injury
lamont butler, playing injured and to.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Go To the.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
SWEET sixteen i, think Overall For mark pope's, FIRST year
i would absolutely give him a. SOLID day i think
he's done an. AMAZING job i think just to get
to the sweet SIXTEEN is i mean. It is it's
better than what we've seen in the last several Years
for pope to come in and do it. FROM scratch
i think he is off to a great start in
his coaching career Here. At KENTUCKY and i think this
(23:41):
Team and pope and the fans have a lot to be.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Proud OF and i know what happens to, every team,
but boy you almost forget that this team is without
their man that was projected to be drafted IN the
nba last Year In. Jackson robinson there without their second string.
Point Guard lamat butler says after the game his shoulder
was about eighty percent and he was still able to
go four or five from three and give it.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
His all and and.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
You know just for him to be on the floor
showed how much this kid cared about this program and
what happened with. This team you throw in, the fact like,
you said you threw this roster together in about a
month and you're able to break records for wins versus the,
top fifteen and you hit the most three pointers. All
time when it comes To the, kentucky program this is not,
(24:30):
you know a some. Mid major This is kentucky that
you're breaking. Records at and for everybody to just be
so appreciative of the name on the front of the
jersey besides, the back IT just i think this entire
fan base got behind them and involved and. Passionate again,
And look i'm putting it, RIGHT today i. HAVE to i,
(24:51):
mean this they checked a lot of boxes and they
brought back the EXCITEMENT for uk basketball now where there's, some,
DISAPPOINTMENT sure, I mean i think the two two games
we will remember from this year might be both losses
YEA and i Mean art kenessey And arks Ra for
arkansas And then tennessee the first time you play them
IN the. Ncaa tournament but, you Know Just mark pope
(25:13):
connecting with this fan base and and and really just
checking a lot. Of boxes, FOR me u just kind
of just brings a bit back of excitement and just
like you, have said already sets the foundation for what
this program can be for the next.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Ten years and what would you say would be your
favorite moment from. The year we heard on the post
game Show That ryan lemon's favorite moment from the year
was his son getting grinded on by a twenty five
year old At the nashville ten Roof, on broadway which
that was sort of a. Strange answer what was your
favorite moment from?
Speaker 4 (25:46):
The Season proud papa in the corner Seeing just siyah
break it down on the.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
DANCE floor I guess i.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Don't know mine was After the oklahoma win Where otega
oway hit the game winner IN the sec turn the
postgame show we, Had afterwards Matt and hubby were on
their roof Of. The airbnb, You know mario's trying to
go back out to the Bars. In nashville we had The.
Blood moon it was the longest latest postgame show we.
EVER did i didn't even go to sleep, After. That
(26:15):
shannon we had the show the. NEXT morning I Think
lamont butler's thirty three Points versus louisville and the postgame
show at three in. The morning After the oklahoma win
IN the, sec.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Tournament remember how nervous.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
WE were, i mean just win one game IN the, sec,
tournament right just win one GAME the. Ncaa tournament the
sense of relief on those postgames was. Very GRATIFYING so
i think back and selvishly think about those, postgame shows
And also lamont's Game.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Versus louisville what, About? You shan what comes to mind.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Three in particular one.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Of them you just Mentioned that oklahoma game where it's
just we just want to WIN an sec, tournament game
and it looked like they were about to collapse there at,
the end And then oway comes back and does it
Again to oklahoma after he had just done it to
him a few weeks, before that winning a game on
a last. Second, show also, OF course i think you
got to Mention the. Florida game, you know you had
an eleven am start On, a saturday and, we're, like
(27:07):
man what's gonna? Happen here are we going to get?
Blown Out and kentucky comes out And beats florida. At
home Good to florida team that's In the final four
and might end up winning the, whole thing by. The
way AND then i THINK if i had to pick
like overall, best one it might have been just a
couple just a, week ago the Game in milwaukee where
They beat illinois and they get To the, sweet sixteen
(27:29):
and a game That honestly billy going into. THAT game
i Didn't think kentucky was going. To win, you know
it was a road Environment. For kentucky, you know you're
used To seeing kentucky playing neutral arenas and it Being overwhelmingly.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Kentucky fans it wasn't. The Case. In milwaukee there Were
more illinois fans than There were.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Kentucky Fans and kentucky still came out and dominate it
from start. TO finish i think just getting To the
sweet sixteen and winning, that game and also it might
Have been matt had a little something to do with
the FACT that i was basically in the front row for.
The game so it was a good experience. FOR me
i think that's the highlight of the season. For me,
but overall a, great season.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
And you know we didn't.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
EVEN mentioned i mean a couple of. Honorable mentions You
beat duke In The. Champions, class yeah you come back
on the road without a, point guard and You beat
gonzaga for the first win against them in. THAT series,
i mean there were, some great, great Wins and kentucky
would do it when they were counted out, the. MOST right,
I Mean lamart butler's out and you go on, the
(28:27):
road you Went. AT knoxville, i mean there were some
great moments in the season to just really solidify the
Thought That mark pope can do.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
It, again joey?
Speaker 1 (28:35):
What's, up joey, hey man how you?
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Doing good? WHAT'S up.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
I was just CALLING because i was gonna say this
was a. Great season it brung back my Pride for.
KENTUCKY basketball i wish my grandma was still alive because
she would have enjoyed it. So MUCH and I think
pope's man for the job and for All the tennessee fans.
OUT there i think those fifteen points was lowest scored
(29:03):
in the first half of N C douba. Tournament game
so maybe ever stick out on the banner and raise
it to. The ceiling THAT'S all i got.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
To, say yeah they Won Their, super bowl, but yeah to,
his point, YOU know i Think That mark, pope is without,
a doubt re energized this.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
FAN base, i mean how many times have we been
critical in.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Past years of how uh sterile the Environment at, ropperina
WAS and i didn't fill that at all. THIS year
i felt like the fans brought the energy In that
ropperina was actually a home court, advantage AGAIN which i
felt like it really hadn't been for a lot of.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
PREVIOUS years i think that's Different.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
To, pope yeah big difference from where we were just a,
Year ago shannon and just scrambling After the chickenman took
our coach away?
Speaker 3 (29:42):
From us what are we going? To do who are
we going? To Hire Would dan hurley? Accept? Us, shannon well, That's.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Changed, Yeah no who do we think is coming back for?
NEXT year, i mean obviously you want to build this
entire roster Around. Otega, Oway Yeah travis perry coming, back
around already announced his.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Coming back i'd like to come back from a. Sophomore.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Year Chandler, colin chandler you have to think if you
Already Say, BRANDON garrison i fully expect him to, come,
Back Right trent noah another ONE that i think there's
a roster.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Spot for.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
And then, AFTER that i.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
DON'T know, I mean i think it's kind of up in,
the AIR but i, WOULD feel i think RELATIVELY confident
i would say that those five guys.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Are back? Anybody else is there anybody? ELSE left i
guess that's the way.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
MOVING on, i mean you're getting a lot of.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
People graduating they're just out of eligibility one and done's
in a, Different, Way, SHANNON right I mean Andrew Carr
amari williams oh take away is, back right like or
we'd like for him to. BE back i think that's
somebody that you can. Assume IS but i.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Think he said he thought.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
About IT but i mean that's, you know that's the
answer you're going to get one.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Of, THAT no i don't think, he's back.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Just simply because of the logjam of yeah guards that you're.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
GONNA have i would be really surprised if. He's, Back.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Well i'm going to miss that.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Energy, man YEAH but i, can understand like if he wants,
playing TIME because i just don't know if he can
guarantee that right now with some of the talent that
you coming in and the talent that you want to,
bring in RIGHT because i think you look at the
transfer portal and you're going to try to bring in
some some not only some, big men but.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Some. Guards.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Yep uh, you know we don't deal in rumor and
inn window here ON the ksr. Pre show we, don't know,
of course we, Only SPECULATION so i won't SAY.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Where i Think That kirk reaser might end.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Up, going oh you have a you have a. DESTINATION
already i have.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
A hunch well, SPECULATE please, i mean do you want
to hear it? Or NO yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
I do i'd heard That Maybe rick patino, was INTERESTED
but i don't know that he would have Worked with
would that type of personality Work With?
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Rick patino he's kind of. A, KNUCKLEHEAD.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
Well, i mean if he's willing to put in the effort,
AND practice i think you know he can get the.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Buy in it Was a calipario that always said you
can have, one knucklehead but you can't have more.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
THAN that. I, think yeah before we get to the,
phone's chaining there was a lot of drama. This weekend
do you want to hear ABOUT the uk baseball drama
OR the uk women's?
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Basketball both, all, right well we, love drama. Big one
let's go with the. Women's, team okay Women's.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Basketball Okay cassidy rowe Announced On henry in On her
instagram that she is stepping away from. THE program, i
mean this is Somebody From virgie Kentucky Loves Big blue
nation more, than anybody and announced that she was stepping
away from. The program there were some reporting Afterwards That
kenny brooks asked her to leave. The program so there
(32:34):
is a big Divide Between Big. Blue nation half the,
people saying, you know you don't have a roster spot
for somebody that's meant so much to this program would
die and, bleeds blue and then the other half the,
programs saying or the fan base is kind, of saying
Just Let kenny brooks do. His thing there were a
ton of injuries on the roster. This year you need,
some depth, you Know Let kenny brooks fo up the
(32:55):
roster the way he. Wants To cassidy row has announced
she is stepping away from basketball entirely to ENTER the
pt Program, At kentucky so she will not play basketball.
At all but, you know she only had one more, Year,
Left channon she's going to be robbed of a. SENIOR
day i hate that. For her but where do you land?
On this do You Let kenny brooks fill out? His
roster do you feel some Love For?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
CASSIDY row i definitely feel Love For, Cassidy ROW but
i also Understand That kenny brooks has got to do
what he thinks is going to make his team the
best that they. Can BE and i know as fans
it's natural. To go but she's one. Of us She's.
From kentucky, you know she's meant so much to. This
program but, you know sometimes you got to make, tough
decisions and this is a tough One For.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Kenny brooks i'm sure that he had. To make but
at the.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
End of, the day do you want to have players
that are here because you love them and you know
they're from, our state or do you want the best
players that we can? Possibly get and if that spot
opens up a, you know a spot for somebody else
that's a lot better that he can go out, and
GET then i think.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
You gotta let. Them cook you Gotta Let kenny brooks do.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
His, Thing Yeah and i'm just not ready to Jump
On kenny brooks after the turnaround that he just built
had with, this, PROGRAM right, i mean he's brought in
a lot of talent in let's kind Of let. Kenny
COOK so i hate It for cassidy as much, as
anybody but just to let her keep her on the
roster because She's, FROM kentucky i think you're devaluing the
program at, that point and Quickly The. Baseball drama baseball
(34:19):
took two of Three FROM texas A and m over,
the Weekend BUT texas A and m was not Happy.
With kentucky on the, Third day kentucky had the curfew rule, And,
effects shannon they could not start another ending after five
Thirty because kentucky has to get a flight and. Get,
home well they were up late in the game On
cent or on the, LAST day i believe It. Was
sunday kentucky. Was up kentucky. WAS up i believe it
(34:40):
was ten, to Five and minjiones starts doing maybe a, Little.
Stallball shannon he starts arguing with. The umps he goes,
out there, he starts, you know fighting over the, little
things delaying the game as much. As Possible IN texas A,
and m fans and coaches were not, having it just
Barking At Nick, minjeon shannon it's one of the strangest rules.
In sports that but there are still curfew rules in
(35:02):
million billion dollar industry of.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
College Athletics but.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Nick named gione playing a little stallball to get the
Win VERSUS texas A and m on the.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
LAST day i.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Love it i'm totally fine. WITH it i don't think
there's anything wrong. With, that look get rid of the.
Stupid rule if you don't, like it don't hate, the
player hate, the, game right or don't don't hate, the
coach hate.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
The Game so i'm. With you the fact that there's a.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Curfew rule you got to get rid, of that so,
YOU know i Don't blame menji on.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
AT all i. LIKE it i think, it's uh it's
gamesmanships what.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
It, is Yeah it's if it's, a rule then you
can take advantage of that rule as much as possible
to help your.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Team wins so, that's right, interesting weekend.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
NO doubt a five nine two eight oh twenty two.

after kentucky's just finished third season. For BASKETBALL but i
gotta tell you what HAPPENED to ovw over. The weekend oh,
YOU know i go out there in the. Main event
this is Our arch, mayhem show our big pay per,
view Show and I'm Managing.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Doug basham do You. Know doug have You met?
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Doug Before dougie doug former TWO time wwe tag.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Team champion he's our national.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Heavyweight, champion anyway long, Story, Short billy i'm out there
managing him. Main event things are going, pretty well but
then all of, A sudden doug takes a power slam
from his opponent and it Looked like doug was maybe
about to lose the. National title so WHAT do? I
do being a, Good manager i'm not gonna let. That happen, you, Cheat,
RIGHT well i GO and i grabbed the, national title
(37:34):
and as as the three counts about to, COME down
i chuck the national title into the ring and kind
of just, turn, around like where'd that? Come from is
there like championship belts falling from? The SKY and i
look back into. The, ring billy apparently THIS title i
only went into. The ring it hit the referee in,
(37:56):
the HEAD and i look over and the referee. Is,
gushy blood blood. Is EVERYWHERE somehow i hit the referee
in the head with.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
The.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
TITLE no i guess at some point.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
This title you know this fifteen pounds of steel as
it's flying into, the air hits the referee right on
the side of the head and it must have gotten
with like the edge of the title belt gashed him
open and then blood is just. Flying everywhere he, runs
out runs to. The back another referee, comes BACK and i,
(38:27):
was like how in the, World that EVEN if i
Wanted to it was a. Freak accident one of the
Craziest things i've. Ever seen people think those those title
belts aren't the. Real deal it took a big gash
out of his HEAD and i go to the back
and my man is bleeding all over, the sink all over,
the floor all over, the shower in the. Back sheet
it was one of the Wildest things i'd, ever seen
(38:49):
a complete. Freak accident it, was CRAZY and i, WAS
like i can't believe. THAT happened i, was LIKE did i?
Do that.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
What were?
Speaker 4 (38:59):
YOU thinking, i mean you were just trying to distract
so you could get your the guy off.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
The mat first, OF all i think. MISSION accomplished i
broke up the count literally assault at the refery with
a Flying title that's one way to. Do it.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Cast them it.
Speaker 7 (39:13):
Was.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Wild, Wow yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I'd like to SAY that i felt bad, about IT
but I guess i'd be LYING if I said i.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Don't think that was part of what was supposed. To,
happen geez did you go back and say?
Speaker 4 (39:24):
You're sorry were you Just in folkiel mode and you
just happened to just have to just?
Speaker 1 (39:28):
TELL him, i, said here you had to DO what
i had. To do do you need a towel?
Speaker 7 (39:32):
Or?
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Something HERE so, i said you get out of.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
The bag you're bleeding all over. The roster get out.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Of here stop bleeding all over.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
The mat, the crazy Craziest things i've ever. Seen, before peanut, what's?
Speaker 7 (39:42):
Up? Peanut Guys.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
Good.
Speaker 7 (39:46):
Peanut uh my highlight of the year was watching on
my fire Stick the duke game in my Bungalow In.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Costa rica, oh Yeah In, costa rica, ALL right a.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Nice place SO.
Speaker 7 (40:01):
Then i got, one thought one thought. For everybody think.
About This, for tennessee that was their greatest win in
the history of their. Basketball program that. Is True the
sweet sixteen win is the best they've ever done in.
The history, so, yep yep we're not too bad.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
About it thanks for the. Coping up we.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Appreciate it biggest Win for tennessee and their their. Basketball's
history probably.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
So oh they certainly acted. Like, it yeah they had every.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Right to but then to follow it up with fifteen
points in the first Half versus houston'll come about a.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
