Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KASR Pre Show.
Today is Monday, April twenty. First, I'm Billy Rutledge along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us a call
on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. It's eight five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven Texas at
five oh two two six five six six five six
be our whiskey Thief call of the day. And as always,

(00:23):
the Ksrpre Show is brought to you by ital X
Fine Italian Dining right here in Lexington on Main Street
in the city Center. It is the day that Matt
Jones returns to the Kentucky Sports Radio. It is also
the day you should go to Walmart and CVS and
buy as much candy as you need. I'm sure it's
on discount. This morning, the day after Easter Sunday, Shannon

(00:44):
the Dude is in Louis Vulle. Good morning, Shannon, It's
great to see you, hey man. Good morning. Yeah, Easter Sunday.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I got to go hang out with the family yesterday
to Easter egg Hunts and get some of those really
good banana croquettes.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
They were there, they had them ready to go.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It's like the only time I ever get them is
around you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter three times a year.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
But they got disappointed. I'm glad. I'm glad it wouldn't
be a holiday with the fam for Shannon the dude
without a banana croquette. I've got some words about Easter
egg hunts. But Shannon, did you have any trouble celebrating
Easter on the same day as four twenty? I mean,
were you trying to sit away from the fam to
celebrate with Snoop Dogg? What do you guys a steward?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Why do you guys act like I'm a big stoner
or something. Just because I call myself the dude doesn't
mean I sit around and smoke weed all day.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Uh So, I don't call you a stoner. I mean
you participating.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
You like that Matt Jones act like at anytime, like
you know, marijuana comes up with the news, Shannon, the
stories for you?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Like, why is it for me? I'm not a I'm
not a pothead here the rock DJ. I think we
all just poke funny you a little bit stereo type. No,
I didn't. I didn't celebrate for twenty at all.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I just celebate Easter like a normal human being, like
like you did and everybody else.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Okay, all right, I just wanted to make sure I
didn't know if you're sneaking away no Easter dinner. I'm
all a smoker. Yeah, okay, Well we're.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Taking gummies every now and then. But even those, man,
I'm I'm strictly cornbread humt gummies.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Now, those can put you in a strange place. Yeah, yeah, uh,
you know, you never know. So anyway, how was your eister?
It was good, It was a good. But I alluded
to the Easter egg hunt thing, Shannon. But because I'm
turning thirty next month in May, you're so old. And
because of that, my parents said that I can no
longer participate in the Easter egg hunts. At Easter Boom,

(02:32):
I've aged out of the Easter egg hunt. Yeah. I
mean it may have been the saddest Easter of my
twenty nine years of existence, because all I could think
about of it was it being my last Easter egg hunt. Shannon,
And I may be participating with children, but fair or
foul that I've aged out of a timeless tradition in
the Easter egg that's foul.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
That's foul because I'll tell you why yesterday. Here's how
we do it in my family's house.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, tell me.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
We have two Easter egg hunts. We have one for
the kids and one for the adults. So the adults
hide the eggs for the kids. The kids then hide
the eggs for the adults, and you know, we get
like gift cards and different things, like you can't put
a gift card inside of an egg, but you get
a little note inside that says, you know, ten dollars

(03:15):
gift card to whatever, you know, to Italics or whatever
it may be.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
You know, to Clark's Puppin' Shop. So that's what we do.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
So, yeah, you're never too old to have fun and
you know, do Easter egg hunts. In my opinion, so
you know, I did it, and of course I won
because I have to win at everything.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
You know, everybody, the open people down, the old people
were too slow and I was, you know, running ahead
and grabbing all the Easter eggs with the candy in them,
and they got about maybe two or three apiece and
I had about twenty five apiece for me.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Well, you know, I'm not opposed to aging out of
things like I don't think I should be sitting on
Santa's lap at the mall at my age at twenty nine.
But you know, Easter egg hunts they seem pretty harmless, Shannon.
I'm just looking for a couple eggs getting some chocolate.
But nevertheless, I'll have to try to convince them to
do that.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
You should never age out of things in life. Man,
That's how you get old. You know, when you get
old mentally, the body, the body follows. So the body,
the body is the mindset the body. The body will
follow the mind if you start, you know, thinking that
you're old and acting old, and your body's going to
get old. So just just remember that as you approach
your thirties. A little little piece of advice for me.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Well, I mean, man, you're preaching to the choir with
all these kids still playing college basketball and football at
twenty six, twenty seven, twenty.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Eight, why don't you think of my age in the forties,
I can get in the ring and take body slams
from people.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Well, because I mean, they're they're gentle with you.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Shoe.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
No they're not. They're not to move that's coming.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
They're not that that invite to get in the ring
is still extended to you. You know, I've been in
ballroom Dan been inviting you to get into the ring
for years, and you know you always find a way
to have an excuse not to go in.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
So, well, you got cash, I mean Cashah, he's going
to come in ask cash since you won't believe me,
ask him how it is training, which, by the way,
he's going to be making his ovw N ring debut.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
That's Friday night in Pikeville at the Appalachian Wireless Center.
So it's right part of hill Billy Days. Get out
there and check that out. But yeah, it's all good man.
It was a fun weekend and uh, you know, ready
to go for another work week.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Yeah, let's go. We've started to hit the summer show.
So if you'd like to join the show, give us
call eight five nine two eight h two too, eight seven.
Tell us about your Easter weekend. I'm watching the Boston
Marathon on the TV right now, the one hundred and
twenty ninth Boston Marathon. Every third Monday in April, Shannon,
you famously have Shannon the Dude Day here in Lexington

(05:39):
because you walked what is it fifty miles that's right.
Would you ever be inclined to do a marathon? I mean,
how many miles? Points two isn't anything? Right? Was twenty
six point two? You said twenty six point two or
twenty six point three? Yeah, the two?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
So think about that. I nearly did the Boston Marathon twice.
You do the Boston marathons. So absolutely, Shannon the Dude
could do a bus Yeah, yeah, I think I could.
You know, I hate running because mainly I had to
run so much in college being a baseball pitcher. I've
been turned off against running for the rest of my life.
But walking, I could walk a marathon.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
I go hit the polls.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, I'm sure you had puny in my gosh. Yeah,
that's the worst thing. When you're a pitcher. You know
your coach wants your legs to be strong, So how
do you get your legs strong? You got to go
run poles and run hills and all this stuff. So
after I graduated from college, I said, you know what,
unless I have to run, I really don't want to.
I will jog, I guess, you know, in the gym
occasionally on a treadmill to do a little cardigo and

(06:36):
stuff like that. But I would prefer to get my
cardio other ways than running.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Well, how long did it take you to do the
fifty mile walk? Fifteen hours and thirty minutes? I think
fifteen hours and thirty minutes. Believe that's right. Yeah, I
think you've said that. Like you didn't sleep before that either,
so that was the longest time that you'd stayed awake.
I was up for almost.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I was up for I think almost, I was like
four forty hours or something like that, because I didn't
get much sleep the night before. Then I came home
and I go, I want to get a nap in
because I'm going to be up all night. And I
was so excited about it. I laid there in bed
and couldn't fall asleep, So I say, oh, this is
going to be a struggles this morning. Like the adrenaline
was starting to go, you know. So I didn't sleep

(07:19):
at all that afternoon and then went out there and
the walk didn't start to I think ten o'clock at
night and went all the way till like one two
o'clock the next day. How that, however, many fifteen hours
don't make me do math from ten pm fifteen hours later.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, that's when it did, and then I remember just
having a ride back.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I didn't drive back, you know, I had somebody drive
me back from Lexington to Louisville.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I remember falling asleep, just sitting up delirious. By the
end of it.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yeah, I called into Terry Miners show and I barely
even remember it. I was live on Terry's show because
he wanted to talk to me after I did that.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Barely even remember any of it. I do remember the
fan that was carrying the equipment. She's I believe, a
loyal listener of the pre show and her name is
Escaping me right now. That was That was a cool
moment Drew joined you, which.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah, really cool moment, Beard, really cool moment as we
make some some female listener carry the equipment as Matt
and Ryan and I guess Ryan, Ryan wasn't there. It
was Ryan, Matt and Drew. Drew walked to do the
show while Mary.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
To carry the equipment. I mean, come on, I mean,
we're gonna get a listener to do it, but I
mean you're waving to the fans and people are honking
their horns. It was a triumphant moment. But you did
it in fifteen hours and thirty minutes. The record for
the Boston Marathon was set in twenty eleven and was
done in two hours, three minutes and two seconds. Shit,
and that is an houri. Wow. It is a four

(08:39):
point six y nine pace when it comes to the mile.
So I mean you're running a sub five minute mile
for two hours creeze that is That is just a
different level of lung capacity, one that you wouldn't have
if you partook in the holiday yesterday. No, you wouldn't. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
And if I'm in the marathon, Boston Marathon, I'm not
trying to win it. I'm just going out there just
to complete it, just as it's like a bragging, right thing,
like I was in the Boston Marathon.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, and that's what most people do, right. It's a
pilgrimage to many marathon runners. It is the pinnacle I
think of the event. And obviously the Boston Marathon bobbiting
happening many years ago was such a uniting moment for
this country. But also the event still goes on and
it is currently on TV. I want to talk to
our guy Ryan Lemon for a second, Shannon, because we

(09:25):
know he listens to the show while he's getting in
and out of the shower. It was normally while he
was taking his son to school, but I don't even
think he does that anymore. But we've learned that we
Ryan gets a lot of his breaking news from the
KASR pre shows, right right. We learned the results of
the election the next morning after listening to the pre show.

(09:46):
So I do want to say Ryan that Pope Francis
has passed away at the age of eighty eight. Yeah,
I'm sad to see that, sad to see glad that
he made it through the Easter weekend at least. I
think that was a big goal for him. Do we
think that is the first time Ryan has heard the
news that Pope Francis has passed away? Shane probably, so, yeah,
you probably just broke the news to him just then.
But I don't know that.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Pope Francis had been dealing with some health issues recently,
and then I heard that he was at an event
I think yesterday, so I was like, Okay, well, maybe
he's doing better now, and then we get that news.
I woke up to it this morning, so I was
just really sad to hear that.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, I was as well. I think jd Vance paid
a visit to him yesterday, and now he's passed away, unfortunately,
and so Conclave now becomes a reality. If you went
and saw the movie, this is what will be taking place.
What smoke is going to go up. It should be
interesting times. The next thing I want to talk to
Ryan about is a story I had not heard before.
What he said on Friday when he hit a Maserati.

(10:42):
Oh you ever heard that? As I had not heard
that story. How have you not heard that? I mean,
that wasn't even that long ago.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
And then Tom hard even made reference to it, I
think during a Kentucky either basketball or football game. But yeah,
he slammed into somehow Ryan found the most expensive car
on the road that day and slammed right into the back.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Yeah. So now now what is it. He gets out
of the car and the guys like you do realize
this is a three hundred thousand dollars car.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
I don't think it was three hundred thou think it
was like one hundred and thirty or something like one
hundred and twenty maybe thirty.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yeah, a little out of the price range for Billy
r Sports if he's just looking for a used vehicle.
But I mean think his bumper alone costs like twenty
thousand or something like that. It's such a Ryan move, though, man,
talk about the worst car to run into it. With
the Masarati.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
You couldn't find a clunker out there that had like,
you know, no hub caps and already three or four
dings in it or something.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Now you had to hit the brand new Maserati right
in front of you, the guy with no insurance that's
just wanting to get a right way and oh, there's
no big issue. Let's just go our separate ways. Yep.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
You know, like the guy with the you'ren't the guy
that when you hit them, they go they get out
and go, oh, we're good, we're good, continue on.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
You know.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Let's like like that never happened. That's the guy you
want to hit, not the guy that's gonna, you know,
cash in on every little scratch that you put on
his car, which I would too.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
You know, if you hit my car, I'm gonna yeah,
I was gonna say, let's reverse the roll. Sure a second,
you're in your Maserati in a some goober just ran
into the back of You're stopping right like I'm stopping
to phone out. You're filming every interaction. But I mean
maybe if you're in Ryan spot, you're just hoping you're
just we do a little handshake and say goodbye. Well
that's not gonna happen with somebody with a nice car, ever,

(12:19):
So put your phone down. Everybody, be careful out there,
especially today. It's raining. At least it was in Louisville
today on the way in, so so be careful. We
had golf carts crashing in the back of Maserati's. Rain
makes it even worse. So be careful out there, Ryan Lemon,
Now it's the return of Matt Jones today, but we
also got the news on Friday that Trent Noah has
announced his return to the Kentucky basketball team. And I

(12:42):
don't know, there was a little bit of negativity online, Shannon,
maybe that was just the very small bubble of social media.
But I'm excited for Trent to come back. Man, he
showed some poise, some great moments this year. I think
with an off season of work, he can and just
continue to play his role, you know what I mean.
I don't think he finds the starting lineup anytimes, but
this is a Kentucky kid. That's it's made a lot
of people proud. Wouldn't you agree with that?

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
That's why I'm surprised that there was negativity online about
his return.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
What were people saying? They just they don't want him
on the team.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
I don't think that represents this fan base overall. I mean,
there's always a few people online that are chirping that
are negative. That's just the Internet, that's the world we
live in. But I was excited about it. I think that,
you know, if you were to pull the fan base,
more people would be excited about it than not.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, probably a vocal minority when it comes to a
lot of these things. You know, we still await the
news if Travis Perry is going to come back. But
the Kentucky kid flavor has been very interesting over the
past few years. I mean in Trent Noah, while he
may have been the first the subject of the first
call every night to the Mark Pope Show, I think
there were some times definitely that he hit a big
three or did some great, great things rebounding. So I

(13:51):
think he'll play a big role for the Cats this
next year. Another addition for Kentucky. And and you know
I mentioned Matt returns today. A lot's happened since Matt's
was last on the show, You know what I mean,
They've got a whole completely different roster since the last
time he was We've got a national champion since the
last time he was on. That's right. I mean Drew
is going to be in a play since the last

(14:12):
time Matt has been on. So, I mean we've got
a lot of things to fill mad in over the
last two and a half weeks or so.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, yeah, a lot going on. And by the way,
when is Drew's play? Is that coming up this week?

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Or is that? Uh I'll have to ask him again
because I can't remember. Yeah, I'm not sure. I know.
Our guy Drew made it to the Tyler Childers concert
at Kroger Field over the weekend. That looked like a
lot of fun. Shannon's sixty thousand people watching watching Tyler there.
So we'll get reports from our guys, Ryan, Drew, Mad
everybody on KSR a little later today. It is the

(14:42):
KSR pre show, the show before the show eight five
nine two eight h two two eight seven. If he'd
like to call and join us, yes, I did, before
you go to break. I don't know that we can
go to a break. I just wanted to let you
know some uh what little technical issues we've been having
this morning. It says right now that I can't play commercials,
So what do we do? It's going to keep this
thing rolling? Well, I think I think we keep it rolling.

(15:02):
We pay homage to the show that you guys did
where Ryan calls it the worst hour of radio to
ever exist, right when you guys were at like a
NASCAR track or something like that, and there was no
Wi Fi, couldn't even look at your phones, and you
guys couldn't go to break. Yep. So that's that's what
I'm trying to deal with right now.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
This is when it would be really helpful to have
a producer on the show and not somebody trying to
do two or three things at once live on the radio.
But yeah, it looks like right now we're not able
to go to the break.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
So what else is on your mind? Billy? Well, I've
got a lot of things on the docket here. I mean,
we could go plenty of different directions. Do you want
to go positive or negative? Shannon? What is it? What
is it that you're feeling on a Monday morning? I
want to deal with a dose of reality, or do
you want to kind of feel some more good vibes
from the weekend.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I want to go positive, and I say just me
saying that I want to go positive. Positive things are
happening right now. I can see that. Now it looks
like we're able to go to a break.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Look at this.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
See you think positive positive things will follow you.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
You speak some positivity into the universe and good things
might just happen. So do we want to try to
go to break? Woll we'll do something.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
We'll do your positive topic Billy's positive Monday topic of
the day when we come back after this break.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
What a tease. Let's let's all hold our breath here
and hope this works. All right, we'll see if we
can go to break. You're in the case our pre show. Hey,
that sounds good, Welcome back. It is the case our
pre show. A bunch of old men trying to stay
forever young here on this Monday morning. A bunch of
old men. Yeah, speak for your set myself into that category. Yeah,

(16:38):
now okay, getting ready to turn thirty? Yeah? When is
the birthday? What day is it? May first?

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Okay, So I believe We'll have a show on that
day as well, where you just give me advice on
how to be an old man. Right, hey, yeah, Like
do your like knees? Like, do you feel it in
your knee when it's like about to rain.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
No, I'm not dude. You act like I'm eighty two,
not forty.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
When are you getting Social Security? That's pretty soon? Right? Yeah? No, man,
I got no, I'm just joking about that. The great
thing is, man.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I still I'm lucky enough to be I guess healthy
to where I don't feel old. You know, there are
days like when I speaking of wrestling again, when I
get in the ring the next day, I hurt all
day after that, though, I'm back to normal.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
But I'm not so sure that's an age thing.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I think that would probably be the case if I
were even you know, in my twenties.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Well, that's definitely happened to me with alcohol, Shannon. I mean,
the hangovers just different when you get a little bit older,
maybe when you're not in your twenties anymore. Even though
I am still in my twenties. Somebody sent us some
great texts, by the way, five two two sixty five
six six five six, let's run through a couple of them.
The first one somebody sent me two images. The first
is Cash Daniel working out looking like a bodybuilder, and

(17:50):
the second is of Dale from King of the Hill
and says, Shannon is training to look like Dale Gribble.
I don't even know what that means. I don't watch
King of the Hill. You don't watch King of the Hill. No, oh,
come on, Shannon looking like Dale over there getting ready
for your OVW matches. I guess we'll move on from that.
We also have a couple KSR listeners participating in the

(18:11):
Boston Marathon today. One person on the text line says,
my uncle is running the Boston Marathon. Shout out doctor
Jeff Golden. But you have have you seen the app?
You can track any runner you want. It's really cool.
I did not know you can track runners with the
Boston Marathon. Out shout out to doctor Jeff Golden. And
also Frank Carrington writes on Twitter and says, my son
is also running in the first his first Boston Marathon today.

(18:34):
A huge KSR fan. Shout out to Jamon Carrington. J
M A N I hope I'm saying that right, Jamon
Carrington shout out to our KSR listeners in the Boston Marathon.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
So you think maybe they could be listening right now
as we're doing the show, as they're running the marathon.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I don't know. I mean, when you work out, you
normally got rock music on, right, I mean it's not.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yeah, I don't think you and I are like motivating
anybody to run any faster in the Boston Marathon, especially
this morning on a Monday.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
And I guess you can't get odds on anybody in
the Boston Marathon either.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
It's just a bunch of random people that nobody knows
the name of.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
But you can bet, though, Billy on the NBA playoffs
of course going on right now. We had a was
a fifty one point game yesterday.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
What in the world, OKC And yeah the Grizzly Oh
my gosh, I watched some of that game. Actually said
why why did you watch that? Because I was doing
the UK Baseball game and I just threw it on
the TV while I was doing the UK game.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Well, my Celtics had a big win yesterday, And of
course you can bet on all the upcoming games with

you can bet on something simple like a team to

dk slash audio.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
I want to talk about our Kentucky baseball team, but
we'll do that in the next segment because we've got
a couple things we need to get to. But speaking
of the NBA, Yeah, that OKC game Shannon I had
on yesterday. Final score was one thirty one to eighty
over the Memphis Grizzlies. Yeah, thanks for showing up, Memphis, geez.
I mean, I know, Okayse's playing well this year. I mean,
Shay might as well win the MVP, but one thirty

(20:23):
one to eighty is rough. Also, the Dallas Mavericks were
eliminated from the playoffs and the play in tournament after
losing to the Grizzlies. In the final seconds, Anthony Davis
took a shot and seemed to injure himself on the
final shot of the season. The camera slowly turns to
the GM of the MAVs Nico who made that trade,
and he was given a little side eye. I'm worried

(20:45):
Anthony Davis's legacy to a degree, will be mentioned with
Luka Doncics for the rest of history, don't you.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Think, Shannon, It was certainly a wild trade. Yeah, I
think probably. So, you know, it depends on how much
longer those guys end up playing.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I think the fairer faw for Anthony Davis because the
guys won a like an NCAA title, an NBA title,
a gold medal. The list is short of athletes all
time that have ever done that. But I think I
might remember a d maybe a prisoner of the moment
here as the guy that was in the Luca Dodges trades.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Yeah, yeah, I think people will remember that one for
a while. You know, talk about like head scratching trade,
like what why, Like maybe.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Worst trade in sports history, Like we still not have
to see you that works out, but we'll see. We'll
take a break much more on the way. Here on
the KSR pre show, Welcome Back, It is the KSR
pre show Little Lincoln Park jay Z There. For the
podcast listeners that can hear, it's usually this and then
a little Alice bluegown that comes on if you're in

(21:44):
the gym with old Billy r Schmoth sitson into the playlist.
Thank you for supporting us. We really appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
And I think soon, maybe in the next month or so,
we've got another You got another song.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Yeah, this is how we build to an album, Shannon.
You release a couple of singles and then maybe the
set list comes out.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
There in some of the songs, you know, unless your
name's like Taylor Swift that don't or maybe Beyonce. I
don't really think there's any value in putting out albums
anymore because nobody's going to buy them, you know, So
I think you're better off putting out singles, you know,
trickle out of single every month or two, and then
putting out music that way.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah, it puts more was a lot of truth to that.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
That's more of a spotlight on the song itself instead
of here's twelve songs.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
You might like one or two of them, sure, but
you re released the single in the album. Shannon. That's
a maybul big thing that people do, and and with
this fan base, man, you don't think they'd gobble that up.
I mean, this BBN is the best. I mean, I
remember there was a guy that reached out to me
his house had just burned down. I helped him set
up a GoFundMe and Big Blue Nation helped raise ten

(22:46):
thousand dollars for him to be able to buy stuff
for him and his kids. It's just that is something
that's blown me away over the years that I've been
with you on the show. Shannon. It's this fan base
is the best. And so you don't think they'd buy
your album if Alice Blugen had one, Oh yeah, I'm
sure they would. I'm sure they would.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
And you know, they supported the single that came out
a couple of months ago, and you know, it's just
doing pretty well. So I really appreciate everybody who took
the time to listen to it.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Also shout out to Mercer County school's superintendent, Jason Booher,
I hope I'm saying that last name night. Jason Booher
and MCS teacher John Anderson are running in the Boston
Marathon as well. They are running to raise awareness about
the devastating consequences of drinking and driving. So who knew
all this Kentucky flavor in the Boston Marathon today that

(23:30):
you can watch right now on ESPN two. Shannon, we
mentioned in the last thing, we got to give it
up for our boys in blue. The Kentucky baseball team
took two to three from the Tennessee Volunteers, who are
either number two in the country or number four depending
on the service that you look at. They dropped the
first game on Friday, that they won on Saturday four
to one, and then on Sunday eight to two to
claim the series. That was a huge bounce back for

(23:52):
our guys.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yeah, and still plenty more opportunities. I think Louisville's next
up on the schedule. If I'm not us taking as
tomorrow then right, So yeah, you get plenty more opportunities
to get some quality wins over top twenty five opponents.
And you know that's life in the SEC. We talked
about how great it was in basketball. In baseball, it
is consistently just a murderer's row when you were playing.

(24:14):
Oh yeah, in the SEC in baseball, because just about
every team in there is good.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Top twenty five. Some great starting pitching from Kentucky. McKay
on Saturday, Cleaver on Sunday. The bullpen's starting to be
a little bit less shaky. So if they can continue
to hit like this, then maybe Kentucky baseball can make
some noise. Twenty two and fifty on the year eight
and ten in conference play. But Shannon, there was an
interesting moment on Saturday. I was running the game on
Sunday and Darren was telling the story about what happened

(24:41):
on Saturday. Carson Hanson is a very talented player for
the Kentucky Wildcats, but he ripped one right into the
Tennessee Volunteers dugout on Saturday. It hit one of their
relief pitchers square in the mouth. Ooh, when he wasn't
paying attention. This is a hot line straight to the mouth.
Had to stop play for quite a while while they

(25:04):
tended hit him quite a few lost teeth, Shannon, But
I mean, you're a baseball guy. That ball can be
ripped pretty quickly. Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised something like
that doesn't happen more often, as as much as the
dugouts get involved with foul balls and line drives, you know.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, in high school, we had a fence across it,
so like, you know, you were safe there. But those
open dugouts, like most of them are these days, you
got to you gotta make sure you're definitely paying attention.
You know, we've seen that with fans in Major League Baseball.
Although they've extended that net that netting all the way
down to like the third and first baselines to where
it's you know, you're you're protected more. But yeah, it's

(25:39):
one thing about baseball. You'll be looking down at your phone.
You got to be paying attention now.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
You got to keep that head on a swivel, even
if you're in the dugout. And I was always confused
as a kid by the netteg I didn't understand what
it meant. But you know, many years have passed and
they've extended that netting more and more, and you've seen
that netting saved people's lives. Literally. I can also see
a random bat go backwards every now, yeah too.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Yeah, yeah, you know I thought at first that was
really going to be a distraction for people watching the game.
But you know, I've been to a couple of Major
League Baseball games and I didn't really know kind of
see through.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
It after a while, right, like your eyes. I don't
know if they play a trick on you, but it
almost becomes invisible to a degree. Just kind of learn
to ignore it, right, right, So be careful, no matter
if you go to a high school game, maybe you're
even in the dugout or and you're in the outfield.
Got to keep your head on a swivel if you're
watching the sport of baseball. I got taken a baseball.
What happened to the Orioles? Oh my god? Twenty four

(26:32):
to two? That's what happened. How about that? Were they
did they start throwing position players at one point? Is
that what happens in these games? You don't want to
waste a dugout or a bullpen arm, right, so you
just throw the right fielder out there or something like that.
If I'm either team at that point, I'm doing that.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Why would you waste one of your arms when you
can just you know, throw a short stop out there,
you know, let Ellie throw a pitch or too. Yeah,
put Ellie out there, which, by the way, he made
an amazing play. Did you see that play that Ellie made.
It would have been a single, go up the middle.
But Ellie, you know, he's so tall and athletic that
he jumps up like over like from the shortstop side
over on the other side of second base and makes

(27:09):
this diving grab. I mean, anywhere else that's a single
all day. But Ellie de la Cruise comes out and
makes this amazing diving catch and robs the guy of
a single.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Look. I mean, I know Matt's excited about the guy.
Summer of Ellie. I even went and got his bibble
head at the Reds game and that massive crowd. This
guy's gonna be really good. Sham oh, he already is.
I mean, I mean, this could be one of those
like I'm a fan of baseball because I grew up
watching Ellie de la Cruise, like it could be a
generational talent.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
But really, I don't know why we're spending time talking
about the Reds when my Atlanta Braves swept the Twins.
That's right, they're on a heater. Three straight for the
Braves and they're back in it. I think the Braves
are going to the World Series now. They're eight and
thirteen on the year.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Is that you're ready for the Series' calling it right now?

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Let me get on DraftKings and get those odds right now,
and the Braves to win a World Series?

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Okay, Well, you're eight and thirty team on the ear,
so hopefully he can come back. I mean, you got
the Mets, the Phillies, the Marlins, and the Nationals in
that East, so we'll see how they go. Like twelve wins.
One team that is almost or has matched your win
total of eight is the Pirates, and I think most
people would say they're one of, if not the worst
team in MLB besides the Colorado Rockies. But the Pirates

(28:20):
had an interesting situation. I'll tell you I want a
little fair or foul here. Shannon Valdez was sliding into
third head first, and he hurt his shoulder. He got
his hand on the base, but because he was hurt,
he wanted to call time. Right, how do you call
time to an umpire? You raise your hand, you're asking
for time. He raised a hand that was on the

(28:41):
base trying to call time because his other shoulders hurt,
and then the guy tagged him. They called him out.
Shit on, he's hurt, he's trying to call time. He
should have raised a leg. I feel for him, but
if you know, if if it's then the rules of baseball,
he took his hand off the base and he was
tagged out, you don't have to.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Call for time. Here's the thing. If you hurt your
shoulders sliding head first, just lay there. Okay, wait ye
they're not going to continue. I mean I think the
third base coach is going to get the umpire's attention
and let him know that he's hurt. You don't have
to raise your hand. That's a it's a rookie move. Yeah,
you still got to stay on the bag until Tom
outs called. Everybody knows the rules.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
This is not I mean, I understand it. I don't
like it, though, Shannon, we don't have to like it.
The rules trying to stop the play and then he
gets called out at third. But you're right, it's a
ruthless game, yep. I mean you better lay there and
take it instead of trying to call it out or
try to call for time. Yep. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
You could have just laid there and I'm pretty sure
they would have called time out for him.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Yeah, just a couple seconds later and he'd have been safe.
But anyway, baseball is a brutal game. Let me see
what you think about this. Shannon KIRKIRB Street is a
famous Ohio State alum, and he'll tell you about it,
don't get him wrong. But over the weekend he made
it his way over to Michigan. His son plays for
the University of Michigan, and kirkirk Street was seen on
the sideline wearing Michigan gear. Now, kirk is, like I said,

(30:09):
very famous Ohio State alone. But is that the one
thing that would get you to turn to the rival
schools if your son went to go play for them,
Because I kind of think so. I think you would
have to. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
I talked about that even on this show, and Ryan's
even said like if one of his kids ended up
playing at the University of Lobell, he would have to,
you know, go watch Lobell and support his kid. So yeah,
it would be tough to do that. But I think
that's the one exception. Like if you have a kid
that plays on the team. That would be pretty hardcore
if he just showed up in Ohio state gear anyway.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Oh so he's like, he's not switching sides. He comes
into Ohio state gear while he's on the Michigan sideline. Yeah,
I don't know if you can do.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Do you think they're letting dad on the sideline within
a like your biggest your biggest rivals gear on.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
I don't think so. Even if your name is kirkurbs
Street maybe I don't know.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
I'd say, here, here's a Michigan shirt, put that on,
then you're allowed to come down here until then get
that a Wow State buck guy crap out of here.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
But like me and my dad, like, I don't think
they're playing with that kind of funny business. You're gonna
have to change. Yeah, but old Kirk donning the m
over the weekend was something that was a sight to see.
Here's some news that broke that involves Big Blue Nation.
Kentucky football got a big Transfer portal edition New Mexico
State running back Seth McGowan. He comes from New Mexico State,

(31:25):
also was a four star recruit that went to Oklahoma
before that. Shannon don't know if you've read in this
but had some off field issues. Was charged with robbery
once upon a time. I think that was taken away
and he was eventually charged with larceny. But somebody that
missed some time due to some off field issues, Shannon,
this guy better be talented, because all I've heard about

(31:47):
is discipline in changing the culture. And now they've brought
back Hardly Gilmore. They now bring in this new Mexico
State running back. Overall, it's not about what you do
off of the field. It's talent wins out, and it
feels like Kentucky's trying to secure more talent in these
last few days in the transfer. Yeah, that's the thing though.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Like I've talked about this last week when Stoops was
on these airwaves, he was talking about how there's got
to be a changing culture. Then you go out and
you take a chance on you know, Harley Gilmore, who
has had his off the field issues, and you know, look,
I believe in second chances, I do, right, But when
you're trying to clean up a program and you take
a chance on a guy who has a track record
like some of these players, you're really sticking your neck

(32:27):
out there.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
And I've said this before, I'll say it again.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
If you're going to bring those guys back, it has
to be a zero tolerance policy, like one little thing,
you're out, because if you don't have that, then nobody's
going to take you seriously. You know, you can't sit
here and say that we're going to change the culture
and then you bring in guys who have maybe had
a tracker and then let them, you know, do whatever
they want when they come back for a second time.

(32:51):
In Harley Gilmore's circumstances, so you know, I'm rooting for
the kid. You know, he's still young. I mean we
all made mistakes when we were young. Yeah, absolutely, and
again you know I think that he deserves a second chance.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
But man, you can't screw up again. You just can't
a little bit of a different situation. He joined an
Naia school and has worked his way back since being
dismissed from Oklahoma and went to New Mexico State and
now to Kentucky. Hardley Gilmore, I mean, he just left Kentucky,
was then dismissed by Nebraska and then welcome back. So
obviously there's things that we don't know, we don't want

(33:26):
to speculate, but at the same time, from the outside
looking into I think it's a fair question. I don't
think it's out of the question to ask that that
type of question, especially for the program that has put
such an emphasis on it. But he better be good, Shannon,
I mean overall, winning cares all and we won't even
talk about those things if they win a lot of games.
But just an interesting move by Mark Soops and we'll

(33:49):
see how it works out. And looking forward to talking
to Stoops at some point. I'm sure he'll speak to
the media and maybe even come on KSR to tell
us more about the additions at some point. But Shannon,
tell about one of our sponsors before we have to
take a break here.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Yeah, here's something you need to hear about Kentucky. It's
I Am Hope Growing Up with an Addict. It's a
book written by Stephen Hope from right here in Kentucky,
WKU Grad. It's a powerful true story from Stephen Hope,
and he knows what addiction is all about and having
to grow up in a household where you have parents
that are addicted to drugs, and he wanted to write

(34:22):
this book to let anybody who maybe is in a
similar situation, know that you're not alone. He wanted to
help prepare others who are in that same situation and
let them know what to expect moving forward, how he
felt in certain moments, what has enabled him to keep going,
And he wants you to know that you're not alone.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
And you should check.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
This book out even if you know you're someone who
isn't in this situation. It's an interesting read regardless, and
addiction is h at Kentucky harder than anywhere. You can
find it on Apple and on Amazon. The audiobook even
comes with exclusive bonus material. It's I Am Hope, a
Kentucky story with the purpose again that is on Apple
and on Amazon.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Please check it out and give it a read. We'll
take our final break, come back, a little transfer portal
news on the way here on the show before the
show of the KSUR pre show. All right, welcome back.
It's our final segment here on a Monday, before we
hand it off to KSR with the return of Matt Jones.
Excited to hear what all went down in Amsterdam with
the Tulips. Some thoughts about the roster, Shannon, before we

(35:20):
go any further, tell us about what of our sponsors
here on the Free Show.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Yeah, you know, we got a derby right around the corner,
and you may be looking for a good sipping bourbon
for your derby party, And let me suggest to your
Silk Velvet Whiskey.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
It's a historic brand that has been revived.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
It was first crafted in eighteen eighty in Hnerson, Kentucky
and now being brought back by the Hargus family over
a century later. This is hand selected single barrel bourbon
we're talking about, and each bottle comes with comes from
a unique barrel personally selected by the team for its
rich character and standout flavor. We're talking about award winning
craftsmanship made and hand selected by the master distiller, Jacob Call,

(35:57):
one of the most awarded distillers in bourbon, the family
distilling lineage going back to seventeen ninety one. So the
bourbon itself, we're talking about one hundred and seven proof,
aged at least six years to perfection and bottle for
bold Kentucky flavor with a smooth, velvety finish. And it's
now available. You can find it in liquor stores and
bars across Kentucky. You can also purchase it in Kentucky

(36:18):
only it's silk Velvet Whisky dot.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Com and really good bourbon.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
I would definitely say if you're looking for something you
know a little a little like a premium bourbon, this
is a good premium bourbon to get. Definitely if you
haven't tried it yet. You know, anytime one of my
friends will come over and hang out with me, like yesterday,
but he comes over, I'm like, hey, I got a
new bourbon.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
I want you to try slide him over a glass.
He's like, oh yeah, that's good bourbon right there.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
So now my friends love coming over because I always
let him try some silk velvet whiskey. Anyway, you can
do it yourself silk Vet Silk Velvet Whiskey dot com
and make sure you follow Silk Velvet Whiskey on social
media as well. They have a link to where you
can go and pick up some silk vevet whiskey in
a door near you. Silkeveve at whiskey dot com.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
A couple of transfer portal notes. The North Dakota Guard
Transfer Tracon Eagle staff. Remember he decommitted from South Carolina.
He flips to West Virginia. The Spaniard Stretch four from
Robert Morris will go to Iowa and Nate a Mint
or Nate a Mint will be going to UT. If
you remember Nate, he was a Kentucky recruit. He was

(37:25):
the guy that did the fans stake stuff with the
Louisville fans. Yep, you remember that. And he ends up
going to Rick Barnes. Don't know if they went to
a cracker barrel to seal the deal. But Shannon, that's
a he's a good ballplayer. That's a good pickup for
UT and Rick Barnes.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
So do you think Kentucky still needs one more shooter
or should we just say, you know what, here's what
we got. Let's roll with it because the portal closes
when tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Is that right? You know, I'm not sure about when
the portal closes. It could be coming up. You know,
one name that has been linked to Kentucky is Rylan Griffin.
He is a Kansas transfer. He also spent some time
at Alabama, so but he's more of a wing player Stannon. So,
I'm not sure what you think about what they're going
to do at the two. I think a lot of
that comes on if otega Oway it's going to come

(38:05):
back Otaga, who just got a new haircut. If you
just saw that online, coach Brooks sharing that looks like
he's shaved off the dreads, going with a the short cut.
But Otega's obviously a big part of it. I think one,
possibly two additions is left in the transfer portal for Kentucky.
But Ryland Griffin seems to be the name that is
floating around right now, as he will visit Lexington tomorrow.

(38:28):
So it didn't play very well in the system last year,
but you know, Kansas was a mess, and he did
have some good numbers at Alabama, including one game versus
Kentucky where he scored I think twenty plus. So you know,
who knows, Shannon, I mean, who knows what this transfer
portal stuff? Right, So we'll just have to wait, you
never know.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
I think the consensus is like, we would love to
have one more shooter, but you know, if not, I
think we can roll with what we have. You know,
but as fans, we always want to have the perfect croster, right.
The main thing is, let's get otegah way back. I
would fully expect him to come back now if for
some reason he didn't, and we'd be in a lot
of trouble. But from all the NBA draft boards that
I've seen, I mean, I don't I don't even know

(39:05):
that he's even listed on a lot of those. So
I would fully expect Alway to come back for another year.
What happened to wrestle Mania last night, Shane? And I
mean I only saw the.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
You know what, I didn't watch it.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
I watched the main event on Saturday night and then
last night, and then I saw Stone Cold come out
and like wreck into the.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Wall and it's like an ATV or something. There's a
there's a new fan video.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
If you watched wressell Mania last night, you heard Stone
Cold's music play and it took him a while to
get out there, and like what where's he at? Like
the music it felt like was playing for a minute
before he came out. Now there's fan video of him
riding that atv. He missed the ramp initially coming in,
so he went right by the ramp and ran into
like the side of the stage and then he had

(39:47):
to put it in reverse. Put in reverse, Terry, he
had to put in reverse, and they had like some
of the crew trying to pull his ATV back and
go no.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Here' Steve here, go up the ramp here. So then
he finally did.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
He goes out there, he does a lap around the
ring and on the second lap he runs right into
the wall and some woman spills her beer and falls down.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
Yeah. I saw that. She acted like she had just
gotten hit. She took a bump. Yeah that was yeah, right,
looked like her and she acted like she that was
a wall. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
I think that was some quality acting right there. Maybe
Steve had a few too many Steve Wisers before you
get out there, but that's what happened last night. WrestleMania
and DraftKings sportsbook. Before we get out of here, let
me tell you one more time. Promo code KSR bet five.
You get two hundred dollars in bonus bets. That's the
