day and the KSR pre Show being brought to you
by Italics Fine Italian downing in Lexington, Billy.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
It was good to have the crew back yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Matt was back after tiptoeing through the tulips in Amsterdam.
But I do kind of want to go to a
dark competition after going down that sort of rabbit hole
of competitive darts and how much people seem to get
into it in Amsterdam when you go to a dark competition.
I didn't think that darts were ever that exciting, but
(00:51):
it looks like the fans kind of made it that
way from what I was seeing yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, at least the video that you played on KSR
yesterday got me hyped. I mean they're chanting every single
time the dart hits the board. You know, I've seen
fan bases have to be separated by fences during soccer
matches and flares going off, you know, in the crowd.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
But who knew.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
It's every sport over there that you know, people are
getting riled up about. So it looks like a very
cool atmosphere. And while darts looked very cool. I also
liked Matt's story that how he just couldn't get into
the soccer game because he wasn't a fan of one
of the teams. Yea, And I kind of like to
think that we should do that with UT fans next
time Kentucky and Tennessee plays at Reparina, don't you think, Shannon, Like,
(01:33):
if you're a Tennessee fan, let them in exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
It sounds like it's a very exclusive club over there,
And the other thing is too Like other countries. I
hate to say it, like I you know, I love America, right,
but I have to say it. Other countries their fans
like an event, they do it better. Like if you
watch a concert for an American band, you know, the
crowd's loud or whatever, but then you watch that same
(01:58):
band play a showdown in like let's say South America,
the fans are on a different level. They're like chanting
in between the songs. They're like just they're just on
I don't know how to say it, Like they're just
on a different level than what we are as far
as their enthusiasm goes at concerts and just events in general,
they do it better than we do.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Now that's not always a good thing. I mean, hooliganism
is a thing in soccer where opposing fan bases will
look to just beat up other fans in different cities. So,
I mean, obviously they take it too far in some ways.
But you're right, Shannon. I mean, especially with concerts, it
feels like they go off even a little bit more.
It doesn't seem like Bourbon and Beyond. While was recently
(02:37):
just voted the best music festival in the country by
polls Polestar, Yeah, saw that recently. I don't think it
even touches, you know, some of the things that you'll
see overseas. So you're exactly right. I enjoyed a lot
of the stories. Glad Matt didn't get hit by a
bicycle in Amsterdam. It sounds like they're just flying by
you like you're in Nashville and people are riding scooters
(03:01):
perfectly with the bikers.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Oh yeah, yeah, I told you I got my e bike,
now my electric bike. Some people like to say that's cheating.
I like to say that's smart, because, man, when you're
out biking and you got this big hill right in
front of you, and you've already biked a few miles,
there's nothing better than just to go. Just crank back
on the throttle and you don't have to pedal one
bit and it just takes you right up that hill.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
But is it like exercise? The main focus of.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Y shit is but a heart attack is not. And
if I try to get up a giant hill when
it's ninety degrees and there's a high chance of a
heart attack, I would rather just, you know, maybe maybe
bypass the heart attack and just use the electric bike
to take me up the hill.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Well, I'm honking at you on your vespa. If I
ever see you on the street, Shannon, then you better
believe it. You're getting a earful for me.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Well, that's a completely different thing. A scooter versus a
knee bike is a little little.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
No, no, no, no, don't don't change the mental image in
my head, Shannon, I've got you riding around in a vespa.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
I've got a vespa. I've told you I do.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I know, I know. It's got the blue checkerboards on it.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I call it Barnhart. It's the name of my scooter.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
You don't break that out enough. I'm going to need
some pictures, and we're going to need some from you.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I'll tell you what, you know, it's a nice day
out there today. It's gonna be here in the seventies.
I might take the vespa out for a little spin
around the neighborhood and I will send out a picture
to you later on so you can see it.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Very good, very good. A good, good way to celebrate
Earth Day.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
That's right. Oh yeah, Happy Earth Day. Go plant a
tree every day. We also should also celebrate the latest
addition to the Kentucky basketball team. How about this? It
was a big one man Mark Poman went out, he
got him a boom in the eleventh hour. The transfer
portal closes today and he brought in Denzel Aberdeen from
the national champion Florida Gators. He commits to Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Billy.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
He played a little bit behind Walter Clayton Well he
did play behind Walter Clayton junior, but he got a
few starts when Clayton went down with injury. And you know,
he was expected to be a starter at Florida this
season and transfers to Kentucky. That leads me to believe
Billy that he's going to be a starter here at Kentucky.
I mean, why would you leave a starting position at
(05:07):
Florida to go sit on the bench at Kentucky? Don't
you do you think?
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I mean again, think about what I just said. A
guy that's projected to be the starter on a national
championship Florida team, Okay, if he was going to ride
the bench, Okay, I understand he would transfer to Kentucky
and set the bench maybe at Kentucky. But if you're
if a starter at Florida, you're not going to Kentucky
to set the bench.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
No, I have that same question too.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
It is it is puzzling why he if he was
in line to start at Florida, why he would come
to Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
But what's the other motivation in the transfer portal? Shannon?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Money?
Speaker 4 (05:41):
It's money, Yeah, it's money.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
And there's some reports that Kentucky I think even doubled
what Florida was offering, maybe in the range of two
million dollars when it comes to nil. It even led
to Jeff Goodman on Field of sixty eight saying, quote,
I'm not sure anyone is going to touch Kentucky's nil
payroll this season, not even BYU. So I'm I don't
think you look at the job that Mark Pope has
done in the Transfer portal this year and think anything
(06:06):
but highly about what he's done. Man, you have cannot
be anything but excited about this upcoming season. It is
odd that on what was it yesterday, April twenty first,
it seems like Kentucky got their last Transfer Portal edition
in Aberdeen when last year Amari Williams was the first
Transferportal edition. They got them him on twenty twenty four,
(06:27):
the same day, April twenty first, So everybody was panicking
about not getting guys and when they were gonna fill
out the roster. I mean, patience is a virtue, and
they showed that Mark Pope knew what he was doing.
But man, this is an exciting addition, is it not?
Eighty three career games as a Gator. You mentioned the
time that he start started when Walter Jon Walter Clayton
(06:48):
was out with injury. He averaged over fourteen points a
game and shot forty one percent from three. And probably
his best attribute is his defense. He's a lockdown defender.
I mean you could say, you know, if the guy
that went to Indiana was more of a shooter, this
guy is more of a defender. And how much did
physicality and defense was lacking at times last year on
(07:09):
Mark Pope's roster.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
So I'm really excited about this.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Not only is he seems like a really good player,
but somebody with that national championship experience, right, and we
saw how much Lamant Butler was able to help with
that last year. So I don't know this, This kind
of came out of nowhere, Shannon, as it does normally
with the portal. I think this guy, you know, maybe
entered late Sunday or Monday and Pope got on the
phone quick and now what is the roster about, dun Shannon.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
I think we're getting close. I mean we're gonna have
to wait until May twenty eighth. That's the next date
you want to remember because that's the date where players
have to decide if they're going to stay in the
NBA Draft or come back to college, and that's that's
ol way. So yeah, you know, I would fully expect
a way to come back. And at that point, I
think it's all official. And you know, we heard Matt
say that Mark Pope would be willing to come on
(07:55):
Kentucky Sports Radio to do an interview once the roster
gets locked in and it's official. So I would think maybe,
you know, sometime early June, we could expect to hear
from Mark Pope here on KSR. But going back to
Aberdeen for just a minute, you know, we're talking about
the nil money and yeah, there's no doubt that's a
huge part of you know, deciding where guys are going
to go play. You think that, you know, there's a
(08:17):
possibility that he would set aside his ego, his pride,
not start at Florida to come play and set the bench,
possibly not saying he's gonna set the bitch, He's going
to play my point b not be a starter, possibly
not be a start at Kentucky for more money.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Yeah I do.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I mean, I think the bag maybe is a little
louder than you might think. Shannon, Maybe you don't think
that is somebody that would would take a payday.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
But I would take a payday exactly. I'm not lying.
I would.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I mean, you double the amount of money, and I
think that'd get Shannon the dude to move locations.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Pretty cool, you know, I mean, does it really I mean,
does it really matter in the grand scheme of things.
Maybe it matters to players more, but you know, a
starting five doesn't even necessarily mean if you're in the
starting five you're going to play the most minutes.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Doesn't mean that, right right?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
We saw two We saw two guys in the first
round set the bench just a couple of years ago.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I mean, yeah, I held to look at the last
two Kentucky coaches you had read, and Rob play extended
minutes coming off the bench, and even Mark Pope it
seems like he's not willing to play guys, you know,
a ton of minutes in a single game, thirty five plus,
maybe even thirty plus at times. So I think Aberdeen
looked at the situation and said, hey, I do want
to be another guy at Kentucky. I was already such
(09:27):
a good sixth man for Florida, why not go over
to Kentucky. And you know he was he was good
at handling the ball, shand and he didn't have a
ton of turnovers. So maybe you look at him and
as possibly playing a little bit backup point.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Guard coming off the bench.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
You know, there's a lot of different possibilities, and I
think it all starts with Otega coming back filling that
two spot again. And then I mean, I'm really loving
what I'm seeing with depth, and people are now questioning do.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
They have too many guys? You know, And that's a
good problem to have. Is that hilarious? By the way,
we just went from his pope gonna get enough players?
Does he have enough? So now we're talking, oh, he's
got too many players. But I think this is a
big addition to the team. I mean, he also had
a couple of twenty point games against SEC teams this
past season, forty five shooter from three on open catch
(10:15):
and shoots. So a guy that can definitely knock down
some shots for you. And like you said, man, a
guy that's got now championship experience, who has been to
the who's won the championship, and now leaving to come
to Kentucky. So with everything that we know right now, Billy,
are you happy with the roster. Do you think that
you know this is a team that Pope has put
(10:37):
let's say always coming back. Let's go ahead and assume
he's coming back, Okay, with everything that we know, with
the transfer portal in coming freshmen, are you happy with
the roster? Do you think this is a roster that
can compete next year for the final four?
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Do you know I want to pride myself on not
being such a shun shine pumper Shannon maybe a tongue
twister if you say it five times fast, But you
know what, I'm really excited. I really am satisfied with
mark Pope has done with this roster. And if you
think that guys coming back could evolve and get better
and become even have a bigger role in the team
(11:11):
than they had last year than I think the sky's
the limit. And what it did it for me was
not only Modabate but the Croatian Yeleovich. I mean, I
think the four spot is going to be something that
is going to be really really a strength for Kentucky
this year. And Brandon Garrison coming back, I know he's
going to be playing a lot of the five, but
(11:33):
you know, I'm excited to hear him on KSR. I
think Matt said he's going to be joining the show
on Thursday. But no, I mean, I look at this
that has a lot of depth. Kentucky ran in some
injury issues last year, and and if guys like I mean,
I don't expect a lot of playing time from guys
like Trent Perry or Trent Noah and Travis Perry, but
if they can continue to improve Shannon, then maybe two
(11:53):
years down the line, they're somebody that can play a lot.
But Jalen Lowe, Jasper Johnson, guys like Cam Williams, and
even Malachi Marena who may not get a ton of
playing time, but he's a Kentucky kid and has showed
a lot of promise. I mean, top to bottom, it
seems like there's a lot of talent on this roster.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Yeah. Yes, and you got a lot of experience.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
I think that the roster is already better than it
was last year, just player for player. I think the
incoming freshmen are better than what we had. So then
you throw in you know, Trent Noaen, Travis Perry, who
now have a year under their belt. You know, we'll
see what they can contribute. But I think overall, right now,
this is this has shaped up to be a very
good roster with a lot of talent sec talent too.
You know, just mentioned he got one guy from Alabama,
(12:35):
one guy from Florida. So these are guys that man
compete in the conference, right and the.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
One guy I didn't mentioned is probably your NBA draft
pick in Jadan and Quainton's. I mean, this is a
guy that may be more talented than anybody that we've
talked about so far. So, you know, if they can
avoid the injury bug and buy into Mark Pope's system
and do what this team needs, then then man, why not?
Is this team a top five pre season team? And
(13:00):
that doesn't mean a lot. Camera Mills would yell at
me for saying, who cares about preseason rankings, But show
me a another roster in the country that has the
same kind of talent level.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
We want to hear from you.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
How do you feel about the roster now that it's
uh well, I mean, I guess all but a bow
put on top of it. We're still waiting for the
ol Way announcement, but let's just say always coming back,
how do you feel about the roster? Do you feel
good about it. Do you think that Hope needs anybody
else to be added to the roster? I think we're good.
I think we're good right here, But you tell us
this is it? I think this is it. Eight five
nine two, twenty two eighty seven at Billy R Sports
(13:33):
at Shannon the Dude. We'll be right back. It is
the KSR Pre Show. Ks R Pre Show. Get another
boom yesterday from Cody Figer, Cat's pulling in a another sec.
I guess see, well, he was a foe when he
played at Florida, but now he's going to be joining
the Cats with Denzel Aberdeen. Eight five, nine and two,
(13:53):
twenty two eighty seven. This segment sponsored by DraftKings. The
eighty two game grind is over, but now we're at
the playoff. Billy, did you watch any of the playoffs
last night? We had a couple of competitive games.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, yeah, I turned on a little bit of Nick's
Pistons at the end of that game, the Pistons getting
the best of the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Did you end up seeing what Shack did on inside
the NBA?
Speaker 7 (14:14):
No?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
I did not. What did you do? Oh?
Speaker 4 (14:15):
He had a little emergency, Shannon?
Speaker 3 (14:17):
It maybe maybe one of those farts that came out
a little bit too much. And in the middle of
a segment he did that that walk you know, I'm
talking about that, like jog walk. Yeah, and you you
gotta go to the bathroom. Jog walked right out of
the uh, right out of the camera frame.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Had to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
You gotta go, you gotta go, even it does you know,
sometimes it doesn't matter if that red light's on or not.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Listen, we've all been there, We've all done that walk
that Shaq was doing. It just happened to be right
in the middle of the show. Shannon, do you ever
have an emergency in the middle of a show like that?
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I don't think I have. I've been lucky. And you say, well,
as many hours as you're on the radio, how.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
You'll tell us how many hours you're on a day?
Speaker 6 (14:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I never.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
I mean I've had times where I was sick before,
but you know, I could just hang on to it
until I got to a break or something. You know,
didn't have.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
To do it like Live on the Air, Shack couldn't
make to the break last night. Yeah, and that's probably
what makes that show anyway.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Anyway, yes, yes it does. KSR is the promo code
on DraftKings. If you're a new customer, throw that in there.
You bet five dollars, you get two hundred dollars in
bonus bets. You can bet on all the NBA action,
same game parlays, player props. It's all there for you.
With DraftKings, the crown is yours again. If you have
a gambling problem, call one eight hundred Gambler eighteen plus
Kentucky only. Eligibility restrictions apply new customers only bonus bets
(15:36):
expiring one hundred and sixty eight hours after issuance for
additional terms. Responsible Gaming Resources CE DKNNG, dot co, slash audio.
Do you think that the Grizzlies can hold it within
fifty one points of the thunder tonight? That game is
at seven thirty. Yeah, I think they can.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
I mean, that's your pride is tested at that point,
right and even though it is OKC, I gotta think
John Moransk come out and hold it within forty Shannon,
I'm gonna. I'm gonna hope hopefully you can make a
little money on DraftKings for that. I do like how
Oka sees camera operators shame fans into wearing the T
shirts on their on their uh, on their chairs.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well, yeah, that's what you're supposed to do. If they're
gonna give you a free T shirt, you got to
put it on. God knows our boy, Ryan Lemon, he'd
have everybody's shirt. He'd be taking all the ones that
nobody's using so we could wear them another time.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Oh, scoop Lemon. That was another funny topic yesterday. He
just needs to adjust with the times, Shannon. You know
it's transfer portal. Lot's changed over the last few years.
He's just got to modernize a little bit.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yeah, he did get a little speaking of getting shamed,
he got a little shamed by Matt because his scoop
hasn't exactly been accurate the last two or three weeks.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
But you know, like you're right with the transfer portal.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I look back to Trace and Eagle Staff, who committed
he transferred from North Dakota to South Carolina. He was
there for like fifteen days and then decided to leave
South Carolina and then went to West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
So he just you can never tell.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
I mean, it is possible that the scoop in the
ten o'clock hour was correct. But then the guy flipped
and you know, about twelve one o'clock we got a
different result. He's going to another school. You know that
is possible. But yeah, you know, if I'm getting texts
from a random number, I don't care. Even if they
have been you know, on a heater and they've been right,
(17:20):
I don't know that I would want to take that
and go to the radio and put my name out
there on it.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
You got to meet him, shake their hands exactly.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Whatever this person is.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
I just see random number pop up that says, you know,
this person's going to commit. I don't think I'm going
to take that and just go on the air with it.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
That's probably a smart move, but we know Ryan he's
going to run with it. He did start that show
when Matt was gone as a formality that Wilkerson was
on the roster.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
But hey, you know what, things work out for a reason, right.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
That's right, Let's go to the phones. Let's talk to Curtis.
What's up Curtis?
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Hey, guys, enjoy the show. I'll be as quick as
I can. A couple of things. I'm super excited for
a couple of reasons. One is the Ross is looking
great to me. And I can't remember the last time
at this point of the like the off season, that
we've been this excited over a roster at UK. So
I'm really kind of happy about that. And also, I
(18:14):
don't know if y'all heard this or not, but Scott
County High School has just signed Sean Woods as their
new head basketball coach. So I'm really really happy about
that too. So especially after Great Crossing just won the
state title. I think I think they were looking for
a home run higher and I think they got there.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
We got it.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, that's a heck of a hire for Scott County.
Thanks for the call, Curtis. We appreciate it. Yeah, I
didn't know that. It's news to me.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
No.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Congrats to ks our pre show co host Sean Woods.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
That's right, Yeah, he's been on here.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Well here's the thing, look at those all of these
all these KSR pre show filling hosts is doing big things.
You know. Cash Daniel comes on the pre show now
he's wrestling in OVW. Shawn Woods comes on it now
he's the head coach of Scott County. I'm just saying,
if you want to be big time, you got to
come in and fill in for me when I'm on vacation,
and god knows, I've got plenty more vacation days, so.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
There's plenty of opportunities, so get in line. Speaking of OBW,
somebody on the text sign said STD needs to write
his vestpa out to the ring at OVW like Stone
Cold did.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
But a dude, you know what that's not.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
I think that's dude.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
You don't you know how much heat that would get
from the fans if I rode a vest out to the.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Ring this week too, like with all that going on?
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Oh yeah, and then well here's the thing though, I
can't afford to make a mistake like we don't have
the money to pay anybody if they soon, so I
can't loss suit. I can't pull a Stone Cold and
run into somebody.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Like like he did.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Speaking of wrestling, did you see you know I'm not
a fan of McAfee at all. I can't stand the guy.
I don't like his commentary. He doesn't like Max Duffy,
so by default I don't like Patmos. But did you
see on the show yesterday? And I didn't watch the
entire thing, I just saw it on Twitter. John Cena
was on it. With McAfee, and he that fans bullied
(20:01):
him into getting a hair transplant because you know, he's
got this bald spot in the back. He said he
would go out there in the ring and he would like,
you know, people would be yelling him, hey, you.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Got a bald spot.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Do you know you got a big b and like
he would see signs out in the crowd, cover your
bald spot. So he claims that fans actually bullied him
into getting a hair transplant. Do you believe John Cena
or is he just planning the character?
Speaker 4 (20:23):
Yes, I believe John Cena? Are you kidding me? The
make a Wish guy for decades, Shannon.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
I'm sure he's got a soft spot in him and
he's also got a bald spot on him and he
wanted to cover that up. I mean, years of years
of abuse from the fans. I'm sure it weighed on him. Yeah,
but do you think that's a little bit of a
soft moves somebody that is that's a heel.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
I think he probably wanted to get a hair transplant anyway,
And since he's playing the heel, the easy way to
do it is to blame the fans, like yoah see,
I wasn't good enough for you. You made me do this,
You turned me into a heel because I wasn't good
enough for you. So I went out and he got
the air transfer. And then the other thing was Paul Hayman.
I don't know if you know who he is, but
(21:04):
he used to run E c W. He's like he's
a manager now in the WWE. He was on there, yes,
and he was on one man.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
He was.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
He was playing McAfee up against ESPN, talking about like
McAfee talking crap about ESPN, like, uh, you know.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
He says something like at least there isn't a lawsuit
or something like that in the interview.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Yeah, and he was.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
He was.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
He was basically playing Pat McAfee up against Steven A. Smith,
saying you know Steven A Smith, you know, you know,
just basically talking trash about him and saying that that's
what McAfee was saying off the air, and McAfee of
course starts cowering down. No, no, none of this is true.
I didn't say that, but it was. It was actually,
you know, again, for somebody that doesn't like the McAfee show,
(21:46):
the WWE guys on there yesterday was was quality entertainment.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Well, good, good, I glad we're getting good content out
of it in this slow period. You know, stephen A
is a presidential candidate for a lot of people. Is
that just wacky the times? I think I'm joking Steven A.
Smith is not going to run for president? Where did
he announce this? Somewhere?
Speaker 1 (22:07):
No?
Speaker 3 (22:07):
No, But I mean, like, if you look at like
what the Democrats I think are looking to do, I
think one possibility is is old stephen A Shannon. You
think he can hot take his way into the White House.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
No, like nobody would put up with that.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Like we as a society has to have to say
enough at some point, right, I mean, yeah, stephen A
Dwayne the Rock Johnson, No.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Thanks, we'll take your phone calls. Coming up next, we'll
get to him. Eight five nine and two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. It's KSR pre Show. It is
the KSR pre Show. Eight five nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. You're asking me, Billy, if I
have been keeping up with the show Last of Us.
I'm way behind on it. I've seen like the first
episode and that I didn't get any further than that.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
I just can't.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
I don't know, like my attention span doesn't allow me
to really keep up with the series, with the exception
of a couple like I was a fan of The
Walking Dead. I got into that and then you know what,
that went on like eight seasons too long. They could
have just cut it off after that. But then when
you put so much time into it, you feel like, well,
I've already watched three seasons of it, I might as
well go away, watch a fourth and a fifth, and
(23:10):
next thing you know, you've watched ten seasons of a
show that has sucked, like The Walking did Dad did
for the last several seasons. But you did remind me
of one that I actually will watch, and it's one
of the few series that I've gotten into. In just
two days, the last season of You comes out on Netflix.
That's right, so I will be watching that. I am excited.
(23:31):
I've forgotten about it till you just reminded me. But
will you be watching the final season of You? Because
last season was terrible? They should have just left that horse.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Oh yeah, we're invested in it, no matter which you know,
crazy girlfriend comes up next, or yeah, I think you
could say crazy girlfriend. I was gonna say Joe's the
crazy one, but the girls are just as crazy crazy.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
I mentioned the Last of Us because the newest episode
that came out last Sunday, this is going to be
spoiler free, was fantastic. Maybe one of the episodes of
TV I've seen in a while. Shannon had some Game
of Thrones vibe, just some epicness to it. So if
you haven't started that yet, catch up and and get
ready for a very good season two episode two of
(24:12):
the Last of Us. But no, I'm excited for you
coming up on Netflix and this is TV time right with.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
All this, Yeah, well you watch with not with me,
but you like, you know, watch along and then we
can come back and talk about it on the on
the pre show, right. Yeah, I feel left out, like
when the guys talk about White Lotus because I'm still
on like I think, episode one, season two, so I'm.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Way better Righteous gem stunt.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
I can't get a tribute to the conversation because I
don't have time to sit around and watch all these shows.
But I can commit to one, and I'm committing to you,
not not to you, Billy, but the show you Well, you.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Can commit to me too.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Now let me ask you, does you release all the
episodes at once or is it like a one episode
a week type of thing. Can't because I think it's
I think it may be like they released some episodes,
but like the rest of the season may be released late.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
But yeah, I'm not sure how they're going to do that.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
I like to binge it all at one time. But
we'll see how it's announced. But looking forward to watching
that with you, dude.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
All right, ain't pop nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven.
Let's go to Mike Hey, Mike.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Hey, Shannon and Billy, how y'all doing this? Listen, you're
all talking about our freshman, our sophomores, Travis, and and
and and Trent and now two freshmen. Uh. And you
mentioned you made a comment about about well they come,
they come back. They're not going to place to come back.
They developed Maybe in a couple of years, Uh, maybe
(25:35):
they'll be ready. And it reminded me of of old school.
It's not a real old school, remember y'all. Remember, because
y'all are old enough. I'm almost seventy five, and I
remember when freshmen were not eligible, and I remember that
if you were a sophomore unless you were an absolute superstar,
you didn't you didn't number one start, and you certainly
(25:55):
didn't get a lot of meaningful playing playing time. And
that's just kind of This team just kind of reminds
me of that because they've got you've got a lot
of freshman sophomores, you know, on this team, and they're
gonna contribute big time. But you know, I just I
just thought that would because I was used to say
that's that and players didn't really play a lot back
(26:18):
in the seventies and sixties and seventies and back in
the back of the day until eight were like seniors.
I can remember Kentucky had one one team there's loaded
with seniors and their best junior got got didn't get
a lot of time because they had a whole bunch
of seniors.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
And the portal is sort of bringing that back a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Mike. We appreciate the call because of the portal, you know,
you can go out and get some of these guys
that are experienced veterans, guys that are you know, have
already played in college basketball for two or three years.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Yeah, but this roster will be very different than the
one Pope had year one. I think Pope had a
lot of starting experience already coming in. These are a
lot of guys that were on the bench or are
looking for more playing time and looking for a bigger role.
We're gonna have to see some growth from a guy
like Mo Diabate or Denzel Aberdeen. These are guys that
(27:06):
were role players, and while still maybe role players, I
think we'll be counted on much more at times here
at Kentucky next year.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Drew, what's up?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Drew?
Speaker 5 (27:15):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (27:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (27:16):
My question is on the NIL where does that money
come from? Like is it coming from the.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
Boosters or the collectives or the TV contracts?
Speaker 5 (27:25):
And this is for all schools.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, And if.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
That money's always been there, what have they been doing
with it?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
All the above, by the way, Uh, that's where the
money is coming from, Joe Kraft. Yeah, what have they been.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Doing with it?
Speaker 2 (27:41):
I guess stuffing it in their pockets, investing back into
the league. But you know, like we didn't have the
NIL stuff before, so all that money wasn't there before. Well,
and I think we're naive to think that this didn't
happen before nil. I mean, oh, yes, you see in football,
even in basketball, I'm sure we're paying players for many
a years, but right now the players are getting a
(28:02):
lot of nil dollars outside of the school. That could
change with the house versus the NCAA settlement coming soon
in which the schools can start paying some of that
money out to the players, but then there would be
a cap about how much money they have to give out.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
So this landscape could hold.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Is all going to change very soon, but as of
right now, we call it the wild West because it is.
I mean, it's just how much money are you willing
to give me? And that's why we see guys like
the ut quarterback just saying, hey, give me a couple
extra million, or I'm just not gonna play.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Did you see his little brothers going too? His little
brother is going to play back up to his big brother.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
I didn't say he was going to UCLA. I saw
he's entering the portla.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah, he's leaving Arkansas to go to UCLA. Yeah, early
enrollly at Arkansas hits the portal And I don't know
if it's just the council that that's family's getting right
now or what Shanton, but it seems like a bad idea.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
I mean, I don't know. I hope he's get that
payday when you can.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
I guess set yourself up for the rest of your
life if you save your money correctly. But I mean
they didn't do it correctly. The amount of money Nico
loss making that move is incredible. It'll go down as
one of the worst financial moves in the NIL ERA.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Maybe I did. Maybe I get that backwards. I don't know.
I thought that I saw that. Maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Has he not committed to UCLA yet?
Speaker 5 (29:21):
Maybe not?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
That's okay, Just Nico, Yeah, just Nico. Eight five nine
two eight h twenty two eighty seven. Kentucky Baseball. They
take on Loivell tonight, big game of Kentucky prov Park.
They took two out of three over Tennessee and they
moved up into the top thirty of the RPI and
get another chance to move up the rankings with the
big and win over Lobell tonight.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
I getting some wins over Texas over Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
They're putting themselves in a prime position to make the
NCAA Tournament for a third straight year. But you know
they've already played Louisville this year and it was a heartbreaker,
right Kentucky scores in the tenth, they go to the
bottom of the tenth and Louisville scores two, and they
end up winning four to three. Some also tough games
ahead for Kentucky baseball. They'll take on Oklahoma and Vandy
an upcoming series. So let's keep that momentum role in
(30:06):
Nickmnngione has lost a lot of close games this year,
but I think that you could also look at that
in a positive light that they could have a much
better record than they do now. So yeah, six thirty PM,
First Pitch, six to fifteen pre game with Darren Headrick
on News Radio six thirty WLAP gonna.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Be a big opportunity for Kentucky to get a win
over Los bull You got, of course, a lot of
tough games coming out. Playing in the SEC doesn't get
any easier from here, So some quality wins right here
it could get you really back into the tournament. When
it comes to looking at the overall picture and what
teams may make it, Kentucky going to be back in
(30:44):
the playoff picture if they can pull off some big
wins here in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Do you think about Conga lines in the dugout.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Though I like it, let's do it. You don't like
I don't like it, beat them? Is that your Yeah,
if you don't want to, dude, answer here exactly. You
don't like it, do something about it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
But is it a little silly, Well, yeah, silly, of
course it is.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
I mean all the dancing on, Like every time a
Kentucky player got on second base, they had to do
like a ravishing rick rude gyration of their hips and
that was ridiculous too, right, but might as well have fun.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
It does seem like there is a little goofiness to baseball.
I think it's just maybe because it's so long and
you've got to entertain yourself at times, whether you're stacking
hats on people's head in the dugout or you know,
we want to picture not a belly at your kind
of thing, Shannon, you know what I mean. Like, it's
just there's a little goofiness to baseball.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
I went to a bullet Eese baseball game this past
Friday for the first thom since I played there, and
they weren't doing they weren't doing.
Speaker 7 (31:39):
Any of that.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
There was no antics. No, that's that's at the high
school level. I'll tell you how it was. Man, I
was blown away with the playing surface. They've now got this,
I don't know, like it's some sort of artificial turf
that they use and there's no dirt, Like the dirt
is just brown colored dirt like like almost like carpet texture.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Have you seen that?
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Like they put it on a lot of football they No,
they're now playing using this turf on baseball fields. You
talk about getting a clean hop. Every time I looked
at like, man, our baseball field looked nothing like that.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
The kids got it.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Easy these days. Oh, they got it so easy playing
on these turf fields. Unbelievable, how nice it would I
was blown away.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
I think a lot of it has to do with drainage, Yeah,
and just kind of regular maintenance of the field. I
mean we'd have to pull the tarp at just the
most random hours of the day. I'd be in the
middle of class and I've got to go to a
tart pole yep to make sure that dirt doesn't turn
into MUDs. So no, absolutely, it's uh, the sport is
a change in Shannon. It'll be all turf and two
bags at each base and it's a it'll be unrecognizable
(32:40):
twenty years.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Yeah, I mean the field itself looked like a major
League baseball field, like from from you know, Afar. No,
obviously not the the other parts of it, but like
the field itself. I was like, man, that is immaculate.
Wou'd love to have played on a field like that?
Ay five nine, two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
Let's go to Terry Hey, Terry Hey.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
Terry Hey. Sham's a perfect segue. My call. I was
calling you to tell you I'm a high school Umpire
I had. I was on that game. I got pulled
off to go to p r P at the last minute.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
But Bullet Central, yeah, that was my game, but they
had somebody cancel out, so I had to go to
p r P.
Speaker 7 (33:17):
But I was just going to tell you, Bullety's pretty good.
They will vie for the regional. It should come down
to p r P and Bullet East in the region. Now,
upsets happened along the way, but those you know a
lot of Umpire and sixth and seventh regions foundering Trinity
by far and away the two best in the seventh
and I would say p r PS one and Bulleti's
(33:40):
is one A in the sixth region. So there's some
other teams that could get in there. I didn't want
to get your thoughts. Now, you do know that North
Bullet and Bullet Central also had fields just like Bulletys.
They all got him. That was wow, they all put
them in this year.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Well tell you here's how old I am.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
When I played at North Bullet their field was such
like in such terrible condition. There were big like ta
uh tractor tracks out in right field and like you
could fall and turn an ankle in the track and
it's like big deep tracks in right field. That's how
like different the fields are now compared to where they were,
(34:20):
you know, twenty years ago. It's pretty crazy. So what
is that stuff?
Speaker 1 (34:23):
It's like a carpet or something right, Like, what what
is the texture?
Speaker 7 (34:27):
It's just like if you go to uh Patterson, I
mean uh uh yeah, you U of l Field, UK
the same thing. It's it's it's it's answer turf with
those black peloton It's kind of like the UK football field.
It's just it's they did it for uh. Obviously. Now
they all have lights that northfold and used to not
(34:48):
have lights. Bull Central never had lights. They all got
lights now they and it cuts down on the rain out. Yes,
so it's rain here in the spring, that's why you
got these.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
So so the field though, is that dirt? Is that
actually dirt on the pitcher's mound?
Speaker 7 (35:06):
I don't know. I'm trying to think about bullet thees.
Most of them that's also turf. Now some of them
are dirt. But yeah, that's that's tough to be and
you can't obviously you can't wear spikes when you pitch.
That's the rule because you'll tear up the thing. But
also if you if you go to North Bold, their
(35:26):
field now is like adjacent to the football steam. It's
not where it used to be. It's it's further back
to the left.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
All right, Well, Terry, I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
Thanks for the call.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
You have to let me know next time you're up
firing a bullet these games. I want to set you
Terry and start.
Speaker 7 (35:42):
Yeah, I'll let you. I'll let you guys know.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Thanks to the call. Appreciate it. Yeah, man.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Five of the thirty MLB stadiums today feature artificial turf.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
You know, like artificial turf used to be a big
thing back in the day. Then they took it all
out and they went to natural grass. And now it's
like they're going back to a version of not astro turf,
but artificial turf.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
That's what I was gonna say. Astro turf looked like
it was concrete. I mean, yeah, you saw people fall
on that and it was like, I mean, they were
bleeding like it.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
The Lovell Redbirds, the Triple A team before they were
the Lovell Bats, the Lovel Redbirds. Right down the street
at Cardinal Stadium, it was astro turf, and I remember
playing on it one time when I was a kid.
They had like this, you know, you spend one hundred bucks,
you can come out and do a g Lovel Redbirds
baseball clinic Little league baseball clinic. And I remember I
got overthrown by somebody like from like short left field
(36:35):
and the ball rolled all the way to the wall.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
It was literally like no stop in that.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
It was like throwing a baseball out in the parking lot,
you know, like this is gonna keep rolling.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
The Cardinal Stadium.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
Man.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Back in the day, it was everywhere, wasn't it like
it was. I thought it was like the thing of
the future. And that changed pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Now they've knocked it down. It's not even a thing anymore. Hey,
the next time you have a crack in your wind
show maybe from a foul ball, to call Right Way
Auto Glass directly.
Speaker 1 (37:01):

Speaker 2 (37:32):
It's right Way Auto Glass, our Itewayautoglass dot com or
give them a call at eight five nine five two
three ten ninety eight. We're gonna take a break, be
right back with our final segment of the KSR pre Show.
Final segment of the KSR pre Show A five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
We may have time to sneak a call in if
you want to get on board.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Billy ivis questioning myself that last segment about Nico.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Say his name Iamalaieva.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Okay, I cannot say that guy's last name. I was
questioning my own knowledge about his brother transferring back to
UCLA because you said you hadn't seen that, and I
just looked it up and.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yeah, I was right.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Madden eam Alieva is coming back to UCLA to play
with his brother, Nico iam Alieva.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Yeah, so isn't that kind of strange?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Left Ucla now coming back to UCLA to I guess,
compete for the starting job with his brother.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
I don't know, it's it's it's a family affair here.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Is that not strange?
Speaker 5 (38:32):
No?
Speaker 4 (38:32):
That that is bizarre. I mean, so he.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
Now back to UCLA to play with his brother at
the same position, same position. I can't make any sense
out of that.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
You know, I saw that. At first.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
I thought maybe I'd been duped because there are so
many of these. I don't know if you get these
on Facebook when you're just scrolling through. There are so
many fake Kentucky basketball fan pages that have fake news
on there. And I see people in the com I
met section who are like, oh man, that's awesome. I
saw one the other day. I was just scrolling through
and I don't know what. It was like, uh, Kentucky
(39:07):
basketball in your face, and They're like, it has a
headline that says Andrew Carr coming back for another season,
and I'm like, he can't. He's not eligible, he has
no more eligibility. And there are some people in the
comment section they're saying exactly what I just said. But
then a lot of them were like, oh, great news,
(39:28):
can't wait. And I'm going, all these people are believing
these stupid fake Kentucky basketball fan pages. I don't even
know why they exist to begin with. I guess just
to get clicks. But there's enough people that actually believe
that stuff, and I had to like had to block
them because I'm like, I don't want to see this
stuff coming up, because then I might start to believe it.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
People like the attention, right, they like getting likes and comments.
And you know, especially this time of year, you throw
out some information out there, maybe you know something somebody doesn't,
and you're.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Going to get that information.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Do you not get that stuff on your I do.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
But like Facebook, I don't even go. I can't take
anything on Facebook, seriously. I mean maybe I'll check out
bond that bridge, so to speak, every now and then,
but I try to avoid that as much as possible.
Facebook scrolling. Are you a doom scroller at all? Because
I am a little bit.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
What does that mean? A doom scroller?
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Just like just constantly scrolling?
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Oh yeah, when I get bored, I do, yeah, yeah,
And I come across things like that, like maybe if
it's a second of time, you'll scroll. Got a fair
or foul for you, billy?
Speaker 4 (40:24):
All right, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Professional athletes throwing out first pitches, but doing it in
front of the pitcher's mound. I don't know if you
saw this, but our guy Maxwell Harriston threw out a
first pitch of the Detroit Tigers game last night. But
he didn't throw it from the rubber. I mean, you're
a pro athlete. You can't throw a baseball sixty feet
six inches.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
Yeah, I'm gonna go fair.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Fair.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
You're going to fair because of what happened to John Wall.
Now do we remember what happened to you?
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Of course? Yeah. One of the worst first pitches of
all time.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I think he actually made Mariah Carey look like no
when Ryan with his pitch exactly.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
And he's a professional athlete, not many more explosive and
athletic than John Wall in the NBA at that time.
But that does not mean you can throw a baseball
that far. Baseball is the hardest sport for a reason, folks.
It's not always hitting one hundred mile power fastball and
the handye coordination to do it, but to throw a
strike over.
Speaker 4 (41:13):
