Speaker 1 (00:00):
One of our first guests we ever had, Gary Hill,
long time a Mariner's broadcaster. He's coming to us live,
I believe, from the Great White North at the what's
formerly known as the Rogers SkyDome. You should just be
the SkyDome Gary. What are they calling it these days?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's the Rogers Center with an E. And that's where
I am today.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I missed that.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It's kind of a nasty day out. So oh the
roof is on. We're indoors today, all right. It's not
like it is back home or I hear it's beautiful.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Oh Gary, Gary's.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Beautiful when we leave, which is really nice.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Gary.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
The last week I literally has been since since I
got back from vaving. He was like, oh, man, do
you miss the warm weather? Because I was in Vegas
last weekend at the circus. Said no, I love this weather.
Weather we've had in Seattle. If I could just put
in the last week, Gary, if I could put it
in a bottle and just kind of like, you know,
just blasted out for three hundred and sixty five days
a year.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
It's football.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
It's sixty five to you know about you know, seventy
two degrees is a high you can crack the window
at night. It feels like free conditioning. You just can't
beat it, man, But you'll be back here. Well you
got after you got three in Toronto and then three
up in Boston. But the weather should be warming up
there at Fenway Park as well. So how about the
MS taking two out of three? It was against them.

(01:16):
Yesterday was an up and down roller coaster game. But
cal Riley his sixth home run in six games. Where
did this all of a sudden come from? And is
he just starting to look like he's in mid season
FOROM already in April?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah? Man, it has been so fun to watch. He
is just slugging homers left and right. It's pretty ridiculous.
As you point out, six homers in six games. He's
second in baseball right now. And what always amazes me
about Calum the home runs. Like just alone, the home
runs are impressive, but when you put it in the
context of his position, it's pretty remarkable. You look at

(01:57):
his home runs this year, eight home run in eighty
four plate appearances. I was looking at twelve teams this
year from the catching position eight hundred and fifty eight
played appearances. Twelve teams have combined for seven homers from
the catching position. Cal has out homered twelve teams at

(02:20):
the position. It's just not a position you get a
ton of production at right now. And Cal is a
middle of the order bat and he is going off
right now. And now he comes to a place where
he really enjoys. He's always homeward here in Toronto. So
I can't wait, can't wait for the next three days.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
By the way, he has more than double the home
runs of the seven hundred and sixty five million dollar
man Juan Soto right now.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Wow, So he's.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Doing He's got more double the home runs of a
guy who's making fifty one million AAV per year. So
Cal's doing it. Listen, justifying and you know, rewarding with
that contract extension at the beginning of the season, he's
coming on and it's like, I mean, we're listen, Gary,
We're I don't I don't want to say this name,

(03:06):
but we're getting near Johnny Bench, Mike Piazza's territory.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
If he stays on this trajectory right.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, what's so great about him is he's a total package.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Defensively, he's outstanding. He handles the staff great. You know,
there's a lot of things about the catching position we
can measure, you know, framing, he's great at those things
we can measure. There's a lot we can't measure. And
it takes conversation with the starters and bullpen guys, and
they all swear by Cal up and down. And I
don't think it's coincidence that the Mariners have been so
good on the mound the last few years. I certainly

(03:39):
think Cal is a big part of that. Like calling
a game is something you know people are trying to measure,
but we're not there yet. And I think Cal's great
at calling a game. There's all those things that go
into that position that he's great at. On top of that,
he's hitting homers every single day. So it's the best
of all worlds right now with Cal Rawley. He's a
bat that they need in the lineup every day. I

(04:00):
think they've done a good job of getting him off
his feet a little bit and at least he's played
every day, but he's at least having a DH game
nearly every series ish, So I think that will be
important as this series goes on, as this season goes on,
because he's a bat they certainly need in the lineup,
and especially right now because he's in a different planet.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Gary Hill, join us here on MJ in the midday
on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, live from the R and
R Broadcast Studios, brought to you by R and R
Foundation specialist Gary.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
So that's the good.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I did some research last night, okay, Gary, and I
wanted to come prepared, and I look at the Mariners bullpen.
Now I couldn't get it separate from Andre Smunoz, who
is basically like death and taxes.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
He's guaranteed every year.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
He just looked. You put him out there. To me
if I have to do, I say, I hate to
say that. That name is such a lazy sports talk
radio topic, Mount Rushmore. But in terms of let's forget
about Mount Rushmore. The top three players that have been
absolute for this team consistently for the first nineteen games
have been Logan Gilbert, Jorge Polanco.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
And Andres Munos.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
No, those guys have been as even better than advertised
they are.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
You just know what you're getting.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
It's like one of those things where you go to
your favorite restaurant, Gary, and you order your favorite met
and you know it's going to be great every time. Now,
with that being said, the rest of the bullpen other
thing than gave Spiers, who's been great.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
He hasn't given up an ear run this year.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Here's where the Mariners bullpen ranks totally in Baseball Era
three point seventy to one, which is seventeenth in MLB
earned runs total. They've given up thirty two so far
in the season. This is obviously with Munos including that's
eighteenth in MLB whip one point four to two, twenty

(05:50):
second in MLB, home runs allowed, sixteenth in MLB, walks
allowed nineteenth in MLB, and last, and certainly not least,
hits allowed seventy seven hits tied for dead last in baseball.
Aside from Munno's inspire, what's been the issue with this bullpen?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, I think there's a few things going on. One
is they've thrown almost more innings than any other team
in baseball, which is partly why there's so many hits.
Is they've thrown the most innings, and there's a couple
things going on there. One, the starters are not getting
as deep as I think they will as the season
goes on, and they've played some extra inning games too,
and when you're talking about this young in the season,

(06:34):
when you already had a handful, that's just adds extra
innings to the total. And what the Mariners have been
so good at managing the bullpen the last few years.
They're great at spotting guys into pockets to put them
in the best spots to succeed. When you're throwing so
many innings, you can't necessarily do that because there's days

(06:54):
like today where there's gonna be guys down and you
don't have you operating with your full bullpen, and you
kind of have to fire guys maybe where it's not premium,
maybe it's not where it's the best matchups, but you
kind of have to do it because they've thrown so
many innings. I think things will settle down in the
bullpen for a couple of reasons. One is you're right

(07:16):
to point out Munos inspired. They've both been great. They've
been everything is advertised, and it really stabilizes the back end.
I think Thornton and Snyder are moving in the right directions.
They've both been really good the last few times out
Now when you add Brash to the mix, I know
they sent Taylor down today, but I think Taylor's going

(07:37):
to be part of things moving forward. I think today
was more of a hey, we need a guy that
can throw innings, so that's why Casey Lawrence is here.
And when you add those pieces with guys moving in
the right direction, I think the bullpen is going to
get sorted out, especially when the starters start going deeper.
So you're right, you point all those things out. The
bullpen has not been great, but I think it will

(07:58):
get better as the season goes on for those reasons.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Gary Hill joining us here on MJ in the midday,
I've noticed just a trend here recently. I don't know
if this is a change in philosophy, because you know,
I noticed with Emerson Hancock yesterday he just went five innings.
The day before, Bryce Miller went five innings, and then
on Sunday and the win versus Texas, Logan Gilbert only
went five innings, and I like, for me, I don't

(08:24):
think Logan Gilbert, especially when he's pitching as well as
he's been, wants to be taken out after five innings.
So why tax the bullpens so much when these guys
could at least give you six.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah, there's a couple of things. I think the Hancock
is separate from Miller, a separate from Gilbert Okaick. They're
all kind of separate reasonings, and all of them. One
is for Hancock specifically, like he just gave you five
and a really difficult part to pitch in and the
top of the order was coming up. I just think
that was a straight baseball decision. He's your fifth guy
in the rotation. He did his job, he did everything

(08:57):
he could have asked, and you get him out without
facing the top for the order for the third time.
I think that was just straight baseball decision. Miller has
had some soreness going on, and I think they're just
trying to protect him. And I think it's the same
thing with Gilbert. I think, you know, the Mariners, they're
not shy about let their starters go the rotation last
year through more innings than any other team in baseball.

(09:17):
But I think especially early in the season, they want
to be really careful with this rotation because it's the
backbone of the team and they're already without one and
you don't want to lose any other guy obviously through
the course of the season, so I think they're playing
the long game with the rotation. Will when we get

(09:37):
into July and Logan's rolling, is he going to stop
at five? Probably not in the circumstance. And I think
the other factor is, you know, not all five innings
are equal, and through the last turn there's been a
ton of stress bitches, especially early in innings. It's not
like guys have really necessarily been cruising through five, especially

(10:01):
in first innings. You know that stretch at home where
guys really had to labor, like thirty pitch first innings,
And that goes into the calculation as well, Like what
you know, not every pitch is equal, not every outing
is equal, not every pitch count is equal. Stress pitches
play into that, and the starters have had a lot
of stress pitches. But I think we will start to
see them go deeper into games as the season goes on.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
All Right, I'd be remiss if I ask you we
talked about him. We have to talk about him. He's
the biggest star in Seattle sports. Julio Rodriguez. He was
one for six yesterday. He's batting one to eighty seven
on the season so far. I know he's put to
me in a precarious position because you know, he wasn't
supposed to be the leadoff guy. But Victor Roebliz goes
down for at least three months, hopefully he doesn't elect

(10:45):
to have surgery, And so I don't feel Julio batting
leadoff is really maximizing his true potential because I feel
like he's a guy should be in the three, four
or five position, not leading off. That being said, Gary
one for six, you know, we know he gets off
the notoriously slow starts. We're twenty almost twenty games in here,

(11:05):
and we pretty much are that way in the season.
How much for concern because people here and you know,
you talk to the listeners and the Texters and all
this stuff, you're getting a little antsy about Julio and
wondering that when is he gonna hit that button and
take this step to get to that next level.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, I get it, and hopefully it's coming soon. The
good news is and as you know, like baseball teams,
you never get everyone hot at one time. That's just
not the way it works. Now right now, yeah, right now,
callus red hot. A Rose Raina just had a great series,
and as we know, Polanco's been rolling, and they've gotten
contributions from Dylan Moore too along the way, which is great.

(11:46):
So what you're hoping is like, as guys come down
from their crest, which they will, Polanco's not gonna slash
what he's slasher right now for the season. You know,
as much as we would like that, it's just not
gonna happen that it works both ways. So as he
kind of progresses to the mean a little bit, you
hope like Julio takes the baton. That's kind of what

(12:07):
you're looking for. And you hope Luke Rayley does the
same sort of thing because I expect him to have
a great offensive season as well, and he's off to
a slow start. So it's the ebbs and the flows
of the season. And as we know Julio has gotten
off the slow starts, there's still some things going on
underneath that I like. Like I like the walk rate,
I like things taking pitches. I like his hard hit rate. Okay,

(12:27):
that stuff is good signs to me. His strikeout rate
is lower, which is a good sign to me. He's
and he's playing good center field defense. He's running like
he's still being a productive player. He's still doing good things.
We're mostly talking about the hit tool right now. I
mean that's the batting average, and that's staring everyone in
the face. And you know, he's shown some power, probably

(12:47):
not as much as you would like. You'd like a
little more slug, but he's still a productive player. You
just hope that he gets in that white hot zone.
As you know, Polanco cools off. Basically, I guess that's
how I'm looking at it right now.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, because he's got the potential. Man, he's got that
five star, five tool, five star potential. We just got
to get more out of the production. All right, this
is the you're from Tacoma originally, right, Yes, okay, yes,
all right, so you are very familiar with this place.
I've driven by it. I should have stopped multiple times.
But I want to get the official Gary Hill food

(13:24):
review on Lucky's driving.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Oh, Lucky's driving. Yes, So you're gonna give me a
I thought you were gonna give me a Frisco Freeze.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Oh no, I've been trying. Well, you feel free to
do that one too.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, you got to check out Frisco Freeze if you're
ever into coma. Okay, so all right, you gotta make
that happen.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
All right, is it? But that is after that would
be after Lucky's drive in, right, yeah, sure, okay, like
I can't so which is better? Because Frisco Freeze is
a burger joint too, right.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yes it is, That's what I'm and it's right. It
was right near my high school, so I went there
seven thousand times. I'm a little biased.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
I'm gonna wow, Gary, they've been open for seventy five years.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yeah, it's wonderful. Wow, great spot. Nothing against Lucky's driving it.
It's fine.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
But you know, oh so you did no, forget it?
You just all right? So tell me what I got
to get. And I go to Frisco Freeze.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
I get like nine burgers, okay, just fair enough from
all down right there? All right, all right, crush them
all right? And you order them and you drive to
the drive down to the waterfront right there and just
pick out a bench and sit there and crush nine
burgers on a sunny day right in the waterfront.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
Well maybe I'll do that today after the show.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Then, Yeah, I know you actually do They have good
milkshakes too, yes, absolutely, all right, good. I'm looking for
a great burger place and that's not too far. And uh,
you know, I'm looking at this. I just looking at
what they have here, So I'll have to get without
the onions? Is the red relish white sauce mustard?

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Is that must have?

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Uh it's not must have, but everything's great, like go
for it, okay, and get one, get one without it?

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Like do it all man?

Speaker 1 (15:13):
All right, wild, Okay, Hey, Hey, what's about Frisco Freeze,
Lucky's or Dick's.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Oh, Dix is great too. Dix is great too. But
since I'm a Tacoma kid originally, yeah, I gotta I
gotta rank Frisco Freeze one.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
All right, Frisco Freeze. I'm excited fan of Dicks.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Dix is the place for the cool hangout. I'm a
big fan of Dicks.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
No, yeah, we all all right. I love the Deluxe
with the milkshake and the fries and too. I kind
of ruffled some feathers last week because because I was
down in Vegas and I went to In and Out,
and I said, in and Out it's better than Dix.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
I just my opinion. It's a personal opinion.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yeah, you know, yeah, since since I I have lived
my entire life in the Northwest. I can't get behind
that sentiment. I just can't.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
No, I get but because you so, and I get
it because it's Cali, So I under stany. I love
the anti Cali sentiment. So I'm with you there, But
I gotta give credit where credit is due. There's something
that hits different about in and out burger with grilled onions,
animal style and extra spread. It just hits different, you know. Yeah,

(16:16):
So all right, Frisco Freeze it is. I will give
you my review, Gary Hill, next time we talk.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Good. Yes, I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
So if I can't just say I know you will
they give me free food?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Absolutely not. My name carries zero waight anywhere. I won't
help you at all. All right, Yeah, you can drop
my name and they'll just give you blank stairs.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Well, at least he wouldn't say, uh who they'll say no,
can't do it. But they won't say who. They said
no we can't, but we we love Gary. I'm sure
they would. All right, Gary Man, thanks.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
A lot, absolutely anytime, tuck you got it?

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Gary Hill?

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Ems getting ready today?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Ryan wou on the mound versus Bowden Bowden Francis, I
have no idea. I've never heard of him. So EM's
looking to make get four straight series wins in a row.
Frisco Freeze text line, what do you got? Four nine,
four five one? I'm excited. I'm looking at it right now.
These burgers look like fire fire on the Google images

(17:17):
and it's got that old hmm. This double cheeseburger man
looking really good. Wow, somebody posted this on double Washington
raised beef, patty, cheese, lettuce, onion. No thanks on the onion,
red relish and white sauce and mustard. Not usually big
on the mustard either, but I just want what the

(17:40):
locals want. So this frisk Go freeze man, I'm glad
I asked Gary about I knew he was a Tacoma guy.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
So all right, coming up next to what do you say?

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Text of the day text in give me your reviews
on Frisco Freeze four nine, four five to one? Whatever else?
What do you think about my picks for this weekend?
Miami Heat? Big time to night, big time. I might
go four figures on the Miami Heat, that's how much
I love them. In this game against the Hawks, they
think the Hawks are done. Trey Young is a franchise killer.

(18:08):
We'll get to your text next right here on MJ
in the midday ninety three to three kJ rtham, all.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Right, I'm really excited to try this Frisco Freeze place. Hmm.
It's just a lot of great reviews. It's been there
for seventy five years.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Oh, they got the twisty soft service scream Christopher Kid
Yum yum yum.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Oh you like that twisty soft service scream. I have
to google that.

Speaker 5 (18:43):
I'm not even sure what's going.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
No, it's soft service scream that that comes out of
that thing, and it's twisty have to McDonald's ones. Yes,
but it's more professional but better, right, So yeah, sign
me up. I got two people, thank you very much.
I'm gonna combine one on the both of these from
the three six on the two oh six.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Tell MJ.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
I can get them hooked up with a sports betting
app so he doesn't have to drive the casino. And so, hey, Mark,
I got you as far as a betting app, legit,
here's my number. Coller text me, I got you. That
could be undercover. I'm gonna probably I appreciate the sentiment.
I don't think you are five to zero, but I
can't take any chances there. I gotta go with people
that maybe someone I know that it's the station's doing it,

(19:25):
so I could there's a sample size that I don't
have to worry about a knock of the door. Hi,
what did you think you were doing today when you
were taking the heat over the Atlanta Hawks?

Speaker 4 (19:36):
Minest one and a half? Give me the crisae. Why
don't you sit down here?

Speaker 1 (19:40):
What do you think you were doing taking the tables
plus three and a half versus the Lakers?

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Oh, a whole lot of thing. I'm just placing bets here.
What do you want?

Speaker 2 (19:48):
You know?

Speaker 6 (19:48):
What do you got from the two five to three?
I'm from Tacoma as well. Frisco Freeze is really good.
Dix is whack oh in and out is way better
than Dick's.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
I tried pick Quick in Fife. That's the truth.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Pick Quick in Fife.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
There's also one, if I'm not mistaken, as a quick
pick in Seattle off on fourth Avenue South.

Speaker 7 (20:10):
Well, Fife's not too far from me, so fifth would
be okay, Oh, we got, we got so you gave
me a Frisco freeze Gary Hill and then well, and
then I asked him kind of about it and no
or no, no, he gave it to me.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
I asked him about Lucky's.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
He gave me Frisco freeze, and now I got pick
quick yes in Fife.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Okay, all right, thank you for that.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
You know, so far I've heard Mark du sayings of
instrict Man, no chance in Hell, the Rock, what in
the blue Hell?

Speaker 4 (20:39):
And Chris Jericho I gain? Have I missed anything? No,
that's pretty much it.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
I got my little subtle wrestling terminologies in there. I
didn't say the final boss or you can't see me
now because I don't like John Cena, even though I
respect him now. I hated him as a wrestler. I
like him as an actor and I think he's Do
you know John Cena has granted more make a wish
than Lebron James, every athlete of all time. He has

(21:08):
done more make a wishes than anybody, more than Russ
Oh yeah, like three times more, four times. It's he's
a record. If you type in John Cena make a wish,
it's a record. He's done it like over.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Last time I checked was like two. Who knows. The
guy is a total mensch in the utmost form. So
John Cena, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
This next one comes from the two five to three.
Frisco Freeze is like big Cahuna burger from pulp fiction.
Ooh oh, Friscal Freeze, this is a tasty burger.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Oh I all you know what every time? Okay, So
all right, Chris, stop the music for a second. So
let me just tell you something right now. When I
watch pulp fiction, I never been to La. I didn't
get out to La. Do you know the first time
I was in La, Chris, I got to see the
greatest college football team of all time time. And by
the way, do not come at me with twenty nineteen

(22:03):
LSU the O one Miami Hurricanes. We had thirty eight
players in the NFL eighteen or first round picks, so
don't even come at me. I went to see US
win the national championship in the National uh in the
Rose Bowl against Nebraska.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
That was my first intro to in and Out. So
when I ate in and Out, I'm like, oh, this
is like the big Cohunberger in pulp fiction. And I thought,
so if he's saying, Frisco Freeze is like the big huh.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
By the way, John Cena Guinness Book of World Records
six hundred and fifty. Make a wish granted by John Cena.
He's number one. If you you don't even just put
John Cena make a wish and it comes up. Nobody
is even remotely close.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
He's like John Stockton when it comes to assists. Right,
No nights comes close.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
Nobody comes to us. All right, get the music back?
What's it? What do we got next?

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Mark?

Speaker 6 (22:54):
You need to try frugals. There was one in Auburn,
and there's one in the southern part of Tacoma right
off a Highway five twelve and Pacific Avenue Highway seven.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Ooh to give a.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Sign, Yeah, all right, totally off the burger topic. But
if you're in Seattle from the two oh six, try
some og real deal Seattle teriaki. That's Yasukos and Ballard
then used to have three or four locations, but this
is the last remaining one. And get the pork teriake
with extra sauce. You can't go wrong with the chicken either,

(23:27):
but make sure to get the salad if it comes
with it. Super basic but amazingly good. Take a bite
with rice, meat, and salad all in the same time text.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Me back to thank me later. Aha, you use the
Mark James thing.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
I will.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
By the way, I'm putting that my notes right now.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
You went really specific there, Uh Yasukos Seattle Teriaki, get
the pork teriake with extra sauce. You can't go right now.
I'm gonna go pork Terioki. Matter of fact, I might
go there after the show because that's closer than.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
Good at it.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
Yeah, it's all it's like a low key spot no one.
I don't know how people know about it, so shout
out to the text. Wow, it's you'll enjoy it. I'm
a big tariokey guy, Savanta. I do you want to
phrase it?

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Well, I kind of I got to diversify my portfolio.
I eat too much the same ish all over and
over again.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Oh yeah, I know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Yeah, you know, we haven't even talked to you about
a steakhouse yet, but we'll get I'm gonna go to Gauchos.
I want to get no John Howie, bro John Howie
over in Bellevue. Come on, man, all right, yeah you
know I haven't even.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Yet.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
It's okay, but no I heard Belleue is unbelievable. It's
great food out there.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
So where would I do when I go to Bellevue.
I'm saying, I know, Softy date Maller. Here's a cell.
I get this on the house. That's what I say
to them. R pretty much. Okay, good because Softie owns Bellevue.
So anywhere in Bellevue I go second home. Anywhere in
Bellevue I go. I know Softy, I want a free meal. Okay,
no problem, I'll tip you. You're good, so yeah earlier,

(24:57):
Oh you have one more? No you go.

Speaker 6 (24:59):
This is my last one from me. We're talking about
Travis Hunter playing both sides of the football. This is
from Big Scott out of Tumwater, MJ. Cornerback and wide
receiver are not exactly the most physical positions on the field.
He'll play cornerback and wide receiver, say fifteen to twenty
five plays.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
He will be fine.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
All right, Hey, I mean listen, I hope he is.
I'm rooting for the kid I want.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
I love.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
I love Travis Hunter.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
I just wish he went to a certain school down
in the three zero five that wears orange and green
on Saturdays.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
That's all I wish. I wish we had gotten them,
But I love Travis Hunter man. Hey, listen.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Deon Sanders was one of my favorite players growing up,
and he went to Florida State as well. So I
appreciate greatness, especially when greatness should be admired and and genuflected.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
And Travis Hunter is an absolute man great. How about this?
All right?

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Mark?

Speaker 4 (25:50):
What's your WrestleMania picks?

Speaker 1 (25:51):
I mean, I don't know, it's all kind of Cody
Rhodes probably will go over on Sena Casina's on a
retirement tour.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
How about this? How about from I.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Think his name's seeb Sebe frist Go Freeze is solid.
They do have new ownership. They tweak some things that
make it not quite as good as it used to be.
If you like a greasy burger, this is your place,
Like Gary, I'd been more times than you can count.
See all right, see listen, I appreciate that that's from
the real Uh And did you get the one you mentioned?

Speaker 3 (26:26):
The one?

Speaker 1 (26:26):
And yeah you said frugals, Yes, okay, you said frugals,
lefties and university places is better than all of those
accoring to the two oh six pit Quick is right
there with Freeze Freeze, I'll tell you what pit quick
and freeze man.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
You guys have given me so much things going on
right now?

Speaker 3 (26:43):
MJ.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Get in touch with x K j R. Jim Moore employee.
He'll hook you up with betting connection. Good man degenerate better. Well,
I like him already he is.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
I like him already.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
He might get you in trouble though. He is dangerous.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
Jim Jim just takes a bet that you don't. They
make sense. He'll say, like lou Dort will lead the
team in scoring, and then they do.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
So I got to pick for next week, and I'm listen.
I don't know this.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
I I'll be I'll admit I'm not the biggest boxing guy.
So there's this guy, this boxer out there. Are you
a big boxing guy?

Speaker 5 (27:16):
I am? I guess what's up?

Speaker 3 (27:18):
What you got?

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Okay, Chris you bank you heard of him?

Speaker 1 (27:22):
I have a British professional boxer division h I believe
now he is he's interim well he's inter middleweight now
he is in middleweight super middleweight.

Speaker 5 (27:35):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
So they a guy told me last night, he said
bet him next week. He called me last night from Tampa.
He said, bet as much as you can afford to
lose on.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
Chris you Bank.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Oh you know what, let me that name now rings
a bill one second, yep, continue.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Your He's fighting Connor Ben next week, not this weekend,
next weekend. So yeah, this dude I heard, Oh okay
they did. Like a guy called me last night and
I listen. He's just telling me this is for what
it's worth. He's like, I'm putting fifty K on him.
I'm like, whoa like and I'm like, Steve, you you
got that kind of cash. He's like, well, I technically

(28:13):
I'm unemployed right now, but I'm like, you're putting fifty k.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
He's like, this is how I make my income right now,
I'm putting on Chris you Bank.

Speaker 6 (28:19):
I'm like, whoa, I've heard good things. I haven't seen
him personally, but I've heard only good things. And I
think he's thirty four. Yeah he's thirty five years old,
but thirty four yeah, thirty four and three. So he's okay,
all right, okay, yeah, Chris you Bank.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
All right.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
So I got you sucos, I got what's the the
freeze place called uh Frisco Freeze, and I've got the
other place that uh Darry or no, no, pick Quick,
Pickquick Quick, Okay, pickquick.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Seattle TERRYACKI and uh yeah, I liked.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
I love the poor Tarioki, So I mean that that
to me sounds just apps scrumptious, so we'll have to
go with that. I appreciate everybody, uh just calling our
texting in and let me know. Oh quick pick is
legit for a PNW Burger or Cali Berger, Solid Tu
and Shoreline. Never heard of that one, but I'll have
to check that one too. My bookie makes you meet

(29:17):
in person, but he lets you join the app. But
he's great. From Marcus, that's okay, all right. And last
one from the Crippler in Tacoma, Frisco Freeze. Yeah, isn't
as good as it used to be. Another guy, however,
bomb Berger down the street from there is way better.
Love your show, MJ from the two five to three.
Appreciate all the texts. We will speak to the mayor

(29:39):
who's live from snow Kwami Casino on MJ and the
Midday to close it out on a fantastic Friday right
here on Seattle Sports Leader ninety three to three kJ
R FM, the mayor of Maple Valley and I just

(30:00):
got a wreck from someone Ian meal time in Maple
Valley hands down the best burger.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Get the extra fry sauce. Thank me later. The mayor
of Ravensdale, do you agree with that?

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Never been there?

Speaker 8 (30:13):
Oh, I've never been there. I saw I think I
know the place. It's like it says Burgers in Tarioki.
It's next to the QFC.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
If that.

Speaker 8 (30:20):
If the Mayor of Ravenszale is still listening, he can
tell I driven by, drive by it every day. Uh,
probably twice a day. But I've never actually been there,
which is weird. I've been there for eighteen years. Never
been there, I I mean I yeah, no, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
I never been there. Interesting, Yeah, check it out.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
What are you excited for the NHL and NBA playoffs?
I imagine you would be for the NHL.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah, kind of both. Yeah, both.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
I'll say about that last night because last night was
like the worst night, one of the worst nights of
the year for sports.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
It wasn't it.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
Oh, by the way, that's why I watched the movie Crash,
which I hadn't seen in a long time, and I've
seen it before.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
I'm like, there's nothing going.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
On, no, because it was.

Speaker 8 (31:03):
There were a couple NHL games, but none of them,
none of them meant anything. Everything had already been decided.
And I don't know why the NHL, well, I know
because of the the four nations, but like the NHL
had a couple of games last night, but again they
not one of them matter playoff. They already sent out
the playoff matchups and schedules earlier in the day. Most
baseball games were during the day on Thursday, if at all,

(31:25):
and nothing with the NBA last night. So it was
like just this brutal night of non sports and now
I was thinking about that last night. Now we crank
it up and we got baseball tonight and then NHL
and NBA playoffs. Well, I guess it's the playing games tonight, right, yes,
playing games to night, and then we get the real playoffs.
Wake me up when that's ready to go. But the
real playoffs start for NBA and NHL this weekend. And

(31:46):
I love this time of year. I every night, I'll
due respect to baseball and the baseball team and everything else.
I know they're playing well, but every night you've got
first rounds. The best because every night you've got multiple
NBA and an each games going on, you you can't
not find a good one.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Does it feel kind of like the first two days
of March madness.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
A little bit? Sort of?

Speaker 8 (32:07):
Yeah, yeah, it does. It does because it's because everything.
I mean, it's okay that AHL game is not very good. Oh,
how the NBA's games close. Oh, NBA game is not
very good. Flip it overall with we have two minutes
to go in the third period of Tide. I mean,
it's it's awesome. And there's multiple games going on at once,
which is this is it's Friday. Don't get me going.
You know, you get me going, Well, you're s This

(32:29):
is this is where the absolute dipstick morons that run
baseball do not get it. They don't get it, and
sometimes they're beholding to the idiots that live on the
East Coast.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
I get that.

Speaker 8 (32:42):
But when you when you have Major League Baseball playoff games,
the majority of which are being played during daylight hours,
nobody can watch them, nobody sees them. It's just stupid.
You can play multiple games at night in the same league,
in the same sport.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
It's fine, it's okay. Let people choose what they want
to watch.

Speaker 8 (33:05):
If they want to watch the Dodgers and the Cardinals
play a playoff game, or they want to watch the
Mariners of the Blue Jays stare to dream a playoff
game at night. That's fine, that's okay. The NHL does
it and the NBA does it. It's okay, it's all right.
I mean I say that because you wait, if the
Mariners make the playoffs, MJ you and I will be
doing radio shows talking football because they'll be on the
middle of the day because the last time they were

(33:26):
in it, every single Mariner playoff game, all five of
them or whatever it was, they were all played.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
During the daytime. Oh, it's brutal. It's brutal.

Speaker 8 (33:37):
And we tried one day trying to do oh we'll
do like a you can watch and comment during the game,
and that didn't work. Yeah, because nobody's listening to you
right that they are. They don't care about baseball. They
want you to talk about the Seahawks game that week.
So it's just yeah, it's I've never understood baseball doing that.
Because the NBA and the NHL gave you a very
nice blueprint. You can stagger starts right right seven o'clock

(34:00):
start on the East coast, four o'clock here, four thirty five, six,
six thirty seven, whatever. But you can sag your stars.
But there's no that's fine. It's a cubuative rating anyway.
In TV land, it's like they did. It's like Major
League Baseball is the one sport that doesn't understand how
TV ratings work.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
No, they don't want and that's why ESPN's getting rid
of them after the season.

Speaker 8 (34:17):
I think it is honest, it's a good point. I
think ESPN understand. See, here's the thing. The NHL isn't
getting a ton of money from ESPN and TNT, but
they're getting a lot more than they did from NBC
and that horrible contract they had before. Sure, but they
understood that being on TNT, TBS and ESPN brands was
better than anything because the cumulative numbers and everything else

(34:39):
are more important. Baseball doesn't understand it. They're so backwards
ass And that's why you're right. That's why ESPN says,
you know what, you don't value us, We don't value you.
Thanks for coming.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
And and here's the Apple TV and enjoy yourself, right right,
And that's why. And meanwhile, ESPN owns college football, they
own the NBA. They have a great stake in the NFL. There,
you know, they got the NHL back. They don't need baseball.
They don't need anymore.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
They don't.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Yeah, NH.

Speaker 8 (35:07):
NHL has benefited greatly from being well, everything bad is
as bad as the NHL staff and coverage and people
that call the games and the studio hosts.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
As bad as it all is. They benefited greatly, has
the NHL. Hey, Ian, uh say that?

Speaker 8 (35:23):
By the way, we got Eddie old Check on today.
Eddie old Check Edzell's coming on today.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
So I, by the way, when you let me know
when you if you could get me, but you would
get him for your show first, Doc Emrick.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Oh yeah, he's retired.

Speaker 7 (35:38):
No, I know.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
That makes me want to hear him more because I
can't hear him on the broadcast.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
You go get you, go ahead, get him. I don't
have any interests.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Hey, by the way, can I just tell you this, Yeah,
Kenny Albert, the apple fell really far from the tree.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
It fell in a different for it. I love it.

Speaker 4 (35:57):
I'm sorry, dude, I can't.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
I just can't.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
Teddy Albert, Sorry.

Speaker 8 (36:02):
Bro, I think he's got the finals too, because I
mean games for TIP, TBS and tn T and I'm
very biased. Okay, I'm biased. That's fine. I liked I
like Johnny a lot and before I worked with him.
Now that I worked with him and listened to him
for seventy odd broadcasts, I love the guy. Is the best,
the best. He's absolutely the best of the business period.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
In the story with Corey some Springfield, Massachusetts, Hey, I
love your laugh. I love when I make you laugh. Hey, Hey, Ian,
real quick. I last year went all in. I got
a future bet On dry title and Connor McDavid will
can Edmonton win it all?

Speaker 3 (36:39):
I can't say. I can't tell you, all right, can't
tell you.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
All right, lobby rooting for the Oilers.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Man, all right, buddy, all right, see Ian, have a
great weekend, bro all right, snow Kwami Casino, the mayor
of Maple Valley thanks to Christopher Kid, Gary Hill and
all of you listen, including the haters, love you too.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
Have a fun Easter.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
