Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here we go, joining us right now on the big
and plumbing hotline where the best NFL draft analysts in
the planet from the Athletic and a guy that he
and I had a funny moment last week on the
ERA which I will never forget, Nick bomb.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Gardner joining us back right now here on.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
MJ in the midday on Seattle Sports Leader ninety three
to three KJR FM, Nick grade, get the red pen out,
my friend Grazabel. Grazabel, give us a grade, you said, okay,
give us a grade from A plus to F minus.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
N y.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
This was my honestly, this was this might have been
my favorite pick of the night.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Quite frankly, I think that.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
I gave it. I get yeah, I gave it an
eight plus on our site when we did immediate grades.
I just we talked about this when I was on
with you guys last week, and I've said it to
a few other people in Seattle, like it seems like
every year for the last several years, we've been talking
about they need to fix, you know, the interior that
offensive line. And to me, in this draft, Zabel was
absolutely the best interior offensive lineman in terms of versatility
(01:02):
IQ you know, teammates loved him, knows what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
You know, can handle.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Multiple different positions, could be a center, could be a guard,
could probably even play tackle in a pinch if you
really need him to do it. I think this guy's
just a really really steady, solid football player, a culture changer,
you know, possibly as well, who I think is just
going to do a ton to finally help, you know,
the Seahawks, fix some of that stuff inside and maybe
help get the run game going a little bit and
(01:30):
everything else. So to me, you know, finding a guy
who can be in front of Stam Darnold, which was
a big problem last year with him in Minnesota. Right
when their offensive line broke down, things kind of got
wobbly for him. So everything about the pick fit need
where they got him, I thought he could have gone higher.
I thought was great. I thought this was an outstanding pick.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Why would you take him over Donovan Jackson who moved
from guard to tackle and never allowed to sack the
rest of the year when Josh Simmons went down with
a torn Pateeller tendon Ay and Listen Nick against much
better competition, including a run through the playoffs Tennessee Oregon
Texas and Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
I like Donovan Jackson, I even like Josh Simmons, but
to me, Zabel is the guy who I just it's
really really hard to find anything, including his run at
the Senior Bowl where he's overwhelmed, where he's out of place,
where he's not exactly where he needs to be, and yeah,
is there a type of risk there with you know,
he was playing at a lower level. Obviously the guy
(02:31):
like Donovan was sure, But at the same time, you know,
a lot of the appeal for Donovan Jackson was four
games at tackle or whatever it was, five six games
at tackle.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
At the end of his run.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
He was also sort of inconsistent as a guard earlier
in his career as well. I think Zabel technically, with
his technique and all that stuff, is a better player.
I don't know if he's physically a better player, but
it's also close. He's a very good athlete. I think
people kind of underrated that in the process as well.
So to me, he is He was unarguably a top
fifteen player in this class, and I thought it was
(03:03):
a great, great spot for them to find him.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Nick bomb Gardner's senior writer at NFL Draft analyst from
the Athletic Nick, Where do you, uh, who do you
like Gray's Abel two of any current lineman or former
O lineman comparison.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, that's a great question.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
I don't know if I don't know if I have
one that's pop it at the top of my head.
I just it's hard because he literally has done everything
all five positions. I just I don't know that you
find too. You find a lot of guys that come
through that have that say they can do this, or
you often see guys that played guard tackle that get
asked to play center in draft prep and they get
(03:41):
through it and it's what we'll see. But like this guy.
My favorite story about grays Abel. He told me this
actually a while ago when he was in high school. Right,
he was a sophomore in high school. He was a
starter on one of the best teams there in Dakota.
They were in the state championship game. He'd played tackle
all season at like, you know, fourteen years old. Okay,
they get to the halftime of the title game. The
team starting center breaks his hand. The coach goes comes
(04:03):
to grays Abel asks him if he asks him if
he's ever snapped the football before he says no, he says, okay,
well you got ten minutes to figure it out. He
figures it out, They go back out, they win the
state title and everything, you know, everything with him football wise,
just comes very very easily from a family of athletes.
So to me, he's just one of these unique guys
who's a grinder, you know, like who just finds a
(04:24):
way to get it done and doesn't really ever seem overwhelmed.
I think that's the one thing that I take away
from him the most, is like no challenge that was
put in front of him ever seemed too big. He
was also a guy that was offered a lot of
money to leave and he didn't. You know, one of
those guys too. I think that the character there with
him is really really high up, you know, close to
to like what it is with Will Campbell, who was
(04:45):
the top offensive lineman in the draft. I think he's
able and him are pretty similar in that sense.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Okay, fair enough, Nick So no real name, but he's
his own thing. I gotta tell you, you made such
a compelling case that I'm starting to field literally.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Better about the pick.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
I'm starting not that I felt bad, but I just
I'm starting to feel a little bit better. Okay, fair enough,
now that being said, and I think I think they
got the pick right is certainly the position right I personally,
I'm always listen, Nick, I'm gonna shock you here. I'm
an only child and I've been and I've lived a
(05:23):
a I mean, I grow up in Greenwich, Connecticut, but
I also didn't grow up in you know, a trailer
park in Alabama. So I've lived a pretty nice life
where I've you know, kind of when I got things,
I'm like, yeah, that's nice, but I would rather have that.
So I've always will apply that to everything in life.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
All right.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
That being said, Seahawks are on the board tonight, fifty
and fifty two. Let me throw not that I need
to basically influence the witness on the stand here, I'm
gonna throw two names at you. Jaden Higgins six four
and a half wide receiver Iowa State, and my guy,
you know, I believe that you, Elijah Arroyo, Seahawks need
(06:05):
a tight and would are those guys that you could
see either one of them or maybe both of them
here in Seattle.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Absolutely, I actually gave Jaydon Higgins in my mock this
morning for rounds two and three. I think that that
would be a really good fit there if to do.
Seattle's got an awesome opportunity here, by the way, four
picks on day two, a chance to get four more
starters in there. And Higgins is one of those guys
who he's not as fast as what you're losing with DK.
He's not, you know, world class burner.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
But he's not slow. You know.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
He's a sub four or five guy. Four four seven
I think it was. And he's legit big, like six'
four legitimately sixty four two hundred and fifteen. Pounds was
awesome in the, air adjust to poor, throws was quick
enough to beat people off the line of, scrimmage either
in the, slot, outside whatever it. IS i think the
one thing, too with Those Iowa state receivers him And
Jayleen nole, there they didn't play with the league. Quarterbacks
(06:54):
they made, adjustments they found a way to get, open they,
blocked you, know they worked through a lot of no
to make things. Happen SO i loved. HIM i think
he's a fantastic. PLAYER i think he's gonna be really
solid THE. Nfl and Then arroyo, Too, YEAH i. HADN'T
i hadn't talked too much about tight end For, seattle
but you're, right they could use. That And arroyo is
really really, interesting AND i Was i'd, wondered you, know
(07:15):
a few months, ago maybe even if he would slip
towards the top of the second bottom of the first,
round even with as athletic as he, is you, know
just basically like a two hundred and forty pounds, receiver darn.
NEAR i, mean they converted him over to tight, end
but he also is a willing, Blocker like he's a
better blocker than a lot of those hybrid move tight
ends that we end up.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Seeing so his ability to.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Go up in the air and make plays on the
ball and just be like a big giant target with
a you, know super wide range that would be really
hard for linebackers and safeties to deal, WITH i think
is very very. Good so him or my Guy Mason,
TAYLOR i think would also be a good fit For
seattle if he's still.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
There, right the son Of Jason, taylor the nephew Or
Zach thomas.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
And the nephew of, yeah and the And Joy taylor
there that is that is?
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Correct would you take Up i'm Gonna i'm gonna die.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Here you AND i are going to Get, now would
you Take Elijah royal Over Mason?
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Taylor, NO i would Take taylor over over A. ROYAL
i Think taylor is really really. GOOD i think, he's you,
know the again youngest player in the. Draft it's got
so much room to still improve and was Already LSU's
a leading receiver all time, there you, KNOW i think
in just three. Years SO i really think he's gonna
be a special. Player BUT i like both of. THEM
(08:25):
i think it depends on kind of what they what
they're looking.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
For if you want a, big.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Explosive, guy then you know A royal nightpiger. Guy if
you wanted every down, GUY i think IT'S i think It's.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Taylor, okay fair.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Enough so in terms of fifteen fifty, two now you
look him back towards eighty two ninety two for The
seahawks as of right, now third, round so right, there
what would you see a potential fits there For John.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
SCHNEIDER i, LIKE i Like Ashton jellette the edge From
louisville or or a couple edges in that, range depending
on who. Falls But jellette was one that WHEN i
was going through it this, morning fell into the right
spot for. Them it could also, be you, know a
guy like Princey umntmelian the the guy from a from
an old miss or maybe they want to go inside
with defensive. Tackle BUT i, figured you, know there's, enough
(09:09):
there's enough defensive tackle talent and defensive end edge talent. Here,
uh that'll be there on day three THAT i think
these guys will be starting level players Like jilet's every down.
GUY i can move around a little, bit you, know
can bounce out and cover plays really really. Hard one
of the hardest playing guys in This in this, CLASS
i think a guy would be really. Versatile and then
with the other, ONE i think you can go a
(09:31):
number of different. WAYS i, Mean i've almost wondered if
they would go back to the offensive, line you, Know
i've almost wondered if they would do it. Again you,
know you Have Marcus bau, there if you Like Gray
zabel as a. Guard you even Have Jered, wilson the
kid From georgia is also. There you know a couple
other players down on that in that. Range we'll see
if al Far, Tate ratlie and those guys.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Fall but, LIKE.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
I almost wonder if they would go back to the
offensive line BECAUSE i think there's an opportunity to you,
know even further fortify it.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Here, Well jonah savani yea From, arizona will get you
there in the third round.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Or now he could he could. BE i, mean like
that's the. Thing i'm not quite sure when the guard.
Rush you, know him And Tate ratleige are the two
guys THAT i feel like are probably.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
The best two.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Left BUT i don't know how far they're going to.
Go you, KNOW i don't know where those. Slide but
it's also a situation. Too if You're, seattle you know
you've got all these. Picks if you really really covet
one of those, guys you could you, know package and
move up and go get. Them seattle has one of
the best opportunities to make something happen here on day
two of anybody in the. LEAGUE i don't know if
anybody else has four picks, tonight so you know they're
really good shake.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Here why did she do Her sanders drop out of
the first.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Round, well, YEAH i think a number of. REASONS i
think most of them had to do, with you, know questions.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
About his, game more than anything.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
ELSE i don't think it, helps you, know the constant
pomp and circumstance that has surrounded, him the overconfidence that
he sort of. DISPLAYS i also had questions about a
team like The, giants who are run by a head
coach and A gm that are fighting for their, life
wanting to do With Dion. SANDERS i just don't think they.
Did AND i think when all things came down to,
(11:04):
it to, Me chadure And Jackson dart were very similar
players and on the board they were very, close AND
i thought that they were much closer together Than shaduur
was to Cam. Ward so to, me if it's like
if it's a tie breaker with him and The giants
and now they're gonna go With Jackson, dart they're gonna
go with The goid with less, drama AND i think
that that's maybe a thing that we'll. SEE i gave
him To cleveland to start the second, round BUT i
(11:25):
wouldn't be shocked If cleveland said. NO i wouldn't be
shocked if he keeps.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Going a little bit.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Further LIKE i almost feel like a team like The
steelers or The, jets a team that is run by
a head coach that is not gonna deal with it
would be the best spot for him to, go because
there's just been so much like whistling through the graveyard.
Here he did not, test he did not work. Out
he acted like he was better than all, this that
his ape said, everything and it, didn't and it. Didn't
(11:49):
there's questions about how he operates in the, pocket his,
size armtail and all that, stuff and it's just he
did not come at it with the attitude THAT i
think a lot of teams are, like, hey that's not.
Starting WE i need our quarterback to be more self.
Aware and that's not a lot of that going on right.
Now WHEN i think that that hurt, him.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
No question about.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
It AND i mean there was a guy THAT i
mean And i'm just gonna, say, Well i'll save that
coming up. NEXT i just thought it was there's a
couple embarrassing moments last night FOR, espn and who AM
i to say something About Mel. Kuiper but let me
just say. This i'm saying, this not, You Nick Bomb.
Gardner it's time For mel to maybe start to maybe
(12:27):
get into that twilight retirement part of his. Career when
you're Picking shadur to be the third pick in the
draft and he doesn't get, drafted you look like a
complete fin. Idiot Mel kuiper looks like an. Idiot AND
i don't know if he's you, know bought and paid,
for like you, Know nick right and well the guy
that won't be in the media much Longer Shannon sharp
(12:48):
Bar By Clutch. Sports BUT i, mean you've got if
you're picking him to be third overall and he doesn't
get drafted in the first, round you're not doing your.
Job And Nick, bombgardner maybe you should be up on that.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
SEAT i don't know about all.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
That that's a lot of noise that you gotta deal.
With but that's the other part of this, too is Like,
dionna THE pr team that they have was so aggressive
in this, Period LIKE i, mean it really felt like
they tried to run this like a freaking presidential campaign or.
Something the stuff that they were leaking out In february And,
january like they, SAID i think somebody told one of
(13:24):
them told somebody At. YAHOO i think it was, That
like you, know The giants and The browns and The
titans all asked him not to, test and that's why
he wasn't gonna do. It i'm, like that is a
complete that doesn't make any. Sense no one confirmed, it you,
know and it's just like they really didn't do him any.
FAVORS i don't think when it all came down to,
it and IF i just didn't talk to anybody anybody
(13:45):
throughout that four month stretch that was, like, YEAH i
THINK i think he's going.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
To be a top three.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Fifth, NOBODY i, mean everybody was like it could. HAPPEN
i don't, know anything could, happen but not on my,
board you. KNOW i think that's that was the. Consensus
and after a while you're just, like, well that's not gonna,
happen you. Know twenty one To pittsburgh felt like the
highest spot he was going to go to, me and
that didn't.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Happen in a.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Way he, slides and then The giants trade back In
nick in the first.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Round he was, Like, okay he's going.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Here they're gonna get a value picked and Then Govid
jackson dart.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Right and the thing to remember there is The giants
spent more time With Shador sanders ANYBODY i think in
anybody than anybody in this. Class they were they were
the entire boat showed up at the shrine ball where
he didn't do. Anything they were all with him at the,
combine and when they went into the, combine you, know
there was a lot of noise that that was they
were leaning toward liking, him and then after the combine
(14:35):
they were basically out on. Him so the, meetings the
personal you, know, interaction none of that helped. Him AND
i really do feel like the way that that he
approached this whole thing should be kind of a, blueprint
blueprint for quarterbacks level what not to. Do you need to,
compete you need to tell the. Truth you don't need
to hide and sort of trey to reccon what you
did in, college no matter who your dad. Is AND
(14:56):
i think this was just wasn't a good. Deal BUT
i you, KNOW i feel bad for for him to
a degree BECAUSE i don't think a lot of this
is his. CONTROL i think it's What dion wants AND
i think that's what they're. Doing so we'll see where he.
Goes but that's absolutely impacting. It you, know coaches that
don't want to deal with it are not going to
deal with.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
It that's how it's gonna.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Go last question of all the picks last. Night who's
your potential red flag boss that you're, like uh, OH
i wouldn't have gone.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
There, YEAH i had.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Too Kelvin banks went really, high top ten. PLAYER i
did not think that that WAS i thought that was
too high for the third offensive tackle in this.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Class that.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
One you, know he could be a good, player BUT
i have questions about whether or not that will work,
out especially if they wanted to be a. TACKLE i
think he might end up being a better guard than a.
TACKLE i think he could struggle out. There and then
the other one that THAT i COULD i just scratched
my head about and we heard a lot of it
about this over the last few weeks Is Walter, nolan
the defensive tackle From Ole. Miss Walter nolan's a phenomenal,
athlete has all the, measurables was a flash player who
(15:54):
often disappeared far too often for me on his tape
both At Old miss and AT a AND m so
him Over Derek harmon was one THAT i really.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Questioned and then.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
The other one, TOO i guess at the butt Like
atlanta giving up a first round pick to come back
up and Get James, pearce who had character concerns from
just about everybody across the. WORLD i don't know What
atlanta's doing. There that why they needed to give up
another pick for that was curious on my. End so
those three right, THERE i think for the ones THAT
i sort of scratched my head, at everybody else kind
of did a solid job.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Though ye's.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Interesting it was about how you thought it would.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Go very, shocky, right little, choky.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Yeah kind of, yeah, right, no.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
It, did it.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Did there was not a lot of you, know other Than,
jacksonville you, know sacrificing their entire. FUTURE i, MEAN i
thought they got the best player in the, draft but
they did.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
That but very.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Choky nick always loved talking. MAN i really appreciate making.
Time and let's do it again next week after all
seven rounds are in the, books and we'll recap absolutely
you bet all.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Right nick Bomb.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Gardner check him out on all socials from the Athletic
great job there coming up, NEXT i, mean.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Oh, boy schadur mel KIPER.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Espn oh get, ready here comes the rant in five
four three, two next ON mj in the midday right
here on ninety three to three kJ.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Rthm we're the twenty.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Fifth thick in the twenty twenty FIVE Nfl, draft The
New York giants Select Jackson, Dart.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Mississippi as a.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Senior he went TO, usc started three, games then transferred
To Old. Miss started thirty eight games for lane kipping
through seventy two, touchdowns finishes the school's all.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Time leading, passer Surpassing Eli.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Manning Mel your reaction well subprib to ahead Of Shador
not shocked Because Dave all wants more mobility and fifteen
hundred rushing yards the last three years At Old. Miss,
now the concern for me and the Reason i'm The
shadoor guy is in the big, spot you come up
big for Sper Jackson dart two games Where Old miss
face and then rake the pone AT lsu And. Georgia
(17:57):
you can played less than sixty percent of stats and
an e game combined for two, touchdowns had two.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Picks then they were.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Looking for a playoff. Spot in Late, november he completely
less than sixty percent of his passes with a couple
of touchdowns and two, interceptions and that late meltdown Against.
Florida so three fixed spots didn't come up big chandor
consistently did on this. Pipe being a RAT i Like Jackson,
DARTS i Love.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Chodor we'll see.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
How it works.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Out the quarterbacks go in the order.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Or the way they work out in THE.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Nfl so For, SHADOR i still don't Believe i'm gonna say,
it So i'm proven wrong after this Because New Orlands
saints are the perfect fit Because pittsburgh's, weather, right The
giants are weather and the division's. Weather and For, shador
Like Drew, brees is hat fanny That dome would help
him so much to give him a chance to be
have either had a great.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
Career they certainly paid befo over.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Well, well, Well, mell not a good night for. You
probably one of the most embarrassing nights since twenty ten
when you, said If Jimmy clausen is not going to
be a great quarterback in THE, NFL i will. Retire
well you didn't do, that but maybe it's now it's
time that you, Do Mel because here's the thing about,
(19:08):
You Dour, sanders and everyone can say everything and, this
and DO i believe that a lot of listen at
the end of the. Day Number, one did the media
have a draft pick last? Night did we have a draft?
Pick Because i'm i Guess i'm part of the media
here at iHeart Seattle sports Taw. Coasts you, know great
sports talk station did did all the sports talk stations
(19:31):
and the print in digital. Media did we have a
pick last? Night, no we did. Not, okay here's the,
thing and thirty two teams passed on Should Door sanders
because he wasn't good enough to be drafted in the first.
Round period exclamation. Point now all the other, things the
(19:54):
pomp and circumstance and the you, know the bling And
Dion sanders and all this the coach prime excuse, Me,
yeah that might have played by, it.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
But it goes to show you at the.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
End of the.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Day let me ask you, This.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Laramie tunsel ole miss the night of the, Draft todd,
McShay i thought he was gonna have convulsions on the
air when he had this gas mask on and he
was smoking.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Weed, OOH i get. It bad. Luck did he get
taken in the first? Round? Oh yes he? Did by
who The Miami. Dolphins that's.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Right Did Warren sap thirty years, ago whose stock dropped
On Draft, day passed by The eagles For Mike mamoula
passed by The, jets For Kyle, brady Not tom he
drops to The Tampa Bay. Buccaneers did The bucks field
(20:58):
That Warren sap in his alleged cocaine use and drug
use off the field that at that time the newly
Named Seattle seahawks Coach Dennis rickson allegedly might have concealed
so that wouldn't get out Because Dennis erickson was a
player's coach Before Pete, Carroll, Oh Dennis ericson would ride
(21:20):
or die with his. Players they would take a bullet
for Coach. Ericson did The bucks Take Warren, Sapp yes they.
Did how About Tyreek hill At Oklahoma state had domestic
issues and boy they're happening again now had them At
Oklahoma state that he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend as
(21:43):
a student At Oklahoma. State did The Kansas City chiefs take, Him,
yes they did. So Shador sanders never had any problems
off the field with the.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Law.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Zero he didn't get taken last night in the first
round because he's not good. Enough he doesn't have a strong,
arm he's not, mobile and quite, frankly he has a
piss poor. Attitude and that's at the end of the,
day thirty two teams had a conscious decision and The
giants AND i, said, oh here it. Is they're gonna
(22:14):
take him at twenty. Five he's going To New. York
they're gonna Get Abdul carter And Shaduur. Sanders and they, said,
no we don't want to be part of The Shadure sanders.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Business now is this the end of the world for? Him?
Speaker 1 (22:29):
No where Did Jalen hurts go in the? Draft second?
Round where Did Joe montana go in the? Draft third?
Round where Did Tom brady go in the? Draft seventh?
Round shaduur will probably get taken the first seven picks.
Tonight cleveland have two of them And New orleans has,
Another so he's probably gonna.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Go now it's up to, You.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Shadure now you have this huge chip on your shoulders
and the motivation in the world because second round picks
don't get big bonuses like Your texas high school buddy
Cam Ward. Will you're not getting that big. Bue but
at the end of the, day at the end of the,
week at the end of the, month at the end
of the, year thirty two teams consciously passed on you
(23:08):
last night because you're not good enough on the. Field
And Mel. KUIPER i hate to say it BECAUSE i
Love Mel, KUIPER i really truly. DO i met him
at A Heisman. Trophy he's one of the guys that
it's Time mel to maybe start to step. Aside they
were Grooming todd mcshade to. Takeover then they let go
(23:30):
Of todd. Mcshae now it's gonna Be Field yates and
Or Matt. Miller AND i think, now because you look
like an absolute fool for Putting shadeur as the number
three overall, pick this will be your not so one
shining moment along With Jimmy clausen in twenty. Ten oh
(23:51):
by the, way speaking Of shaduur and Cam, ward here's
an exchange that they were sharing when they were throwing
In vegas on the campus of you AND lv a
few weeks.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
AGO i gave you a completion Of percentage award and
all you did was tack down is a bubble.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Screens that's that's what.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Crazy IF i did, that my completion sent me NINETY
i throw the ball.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Downfield you, don't you will? Ball you had you had
a run. Game you had a run. Game, Okay so
these guys busting each other's. Chops But.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Todd, mcshae we played this clip for you over and
over and over, again and if there was any sort
of forecast on what was going to, Happen AND i
Credit todd, mcshae FORMER ESPN nfl draft analyst now with the,
RINGER i believe this is what he had to say
About shadeur a few weeks.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Ago the two people THAT i spoke to in these
positions left the meeting feeling Like Shador sanders was not
overly concerned.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
With what they thought of.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
Him they had a fifteen minute meeting with, them and
when they were, done they both, said in different, ways different,
words that they did not feel Like Shador sanders cared
all that much about what that organization thought of. Him
i've had multiple conversations too with these personnel people and
other personnel people who see the same things that we
talked about on. Tape best pure passer unbelievable when in, rhythm, touch, timing,
(25:17):
layering the ball throwing receivers open great instincts as a
passer when on the, move rolling, right rolling, left he
can do things that are magical, Right but in those
conversations he's not that great an, athlete holds onto the
ball too, long bailing out a lot right and, left
leaving easy cash on the. Field it's a lot of
the same stuff that we were worried about With Caleb
(25:39):
williams coming. Up the difference Is chador is a fraction
of the athlete The Caleb williams is and we saw
how poorly that went this, year and so there's work.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
To be done with this.
Speaker 6 (25:49):
GUY i think one of the overwhelming storylines coming out
of this combine is that not only is he not
all that close to Cam ward in terms of that
quarterback one, race he's falling and that it's maybe quarterback
three discussion.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Time now Either.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Shadoor and Coach, prime The sanders family and that team
know exactly how this thing's gonna play out or based
off of our tape study. Evaluation and while we Like
Shad Door sanders a whole, lot it could be a
long first night of the draft For Shad Door.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Sanders Wow Profits. Profits that Was todd mcshay's co, Host
Steve mensch With Scout. Sink those guys been doing this
for like twenty plus. Years, yeah, Yeah, YEAH, espn maybe
it's time that mel starts to step. ASIDE i think
he's it's he just doesn't have it. Anymore and if
(26:42):
you're gonna be that off at your, job then you
should not be in that position.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Anymore and, hey, listen it's not up to.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Me you, Know i'm not the president OF, espn And
i'm not the one who makes those. DECISIONS i have
a guy who used to be my they had a
big brother in the production assistant program names Death, markman
Maybe Seth, markman who's the head of THE nfl ON.
Espn he'll make that. Decision BUT i can tell you
that's a bad. Look you're Not Daniel. Jeremiah you're Not todd.
(27:10):
McShay you're not even close to R qb One Hugh,
millan not even remotely. Close you're Not Matt, miller you're
not Field, Yates you're not Even Mark james.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
ANYMORE i might.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Not go through every single prospect in the seventh round,
draft BUT i can tell you THAT i did Have
shoudure going in the top. THREE i thought at one
point he would go To New orleans After Derek carr got.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Hurt even they passed on.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Him so they even said, no we don't want any
part of The Shadure sanders. Business, oh by the, way
this just came. In The New York giants apparently did
everything they could last night to get Cam. Ward The
titans reportedly turned down multiple first round picks from The
(27:58):
giants in exchange for the number one. Pick that's how
Much tennessee wanted Cam.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Ward should.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Do look at your Former texas high school, counterpart mister zero,
stars the guy who went to Incarnate, word WHICH i
don't even know what the hell that, is and look
at zero stars To numero uno pick in the. Draft
do like Cam ward, does and trust, me your career
will go a lot.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
BETTER i do wish him.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
LUCK i don't think he's gonna be a great quarterback
in THE, nfl BUT i wish him. Luck uses his
motivation and start to do the right. Things but when
thirty two teams turn you, down you, know it's Like
Bill parcels used to, say you kind of are what
your record is and for should doer thirteen and twelve At.
Colorado zero conference, titles but ninety three YouTube. Clips he's
(28:50):
got ninety three YouTube, Videos so, congratulations should.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Do?
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Congratulations all?
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Right coming up, next where did the ICONIC nfl chime
that you hear ON espn come FROM mj in the
midday on ninety three to THREE KJR, fm and the
guy who's BEHIND Cbs march madis. Intro THE ESPN nhl
theme was approached BY espn in two thousand and five
(29:16):
to create some sort of chime that would signal a
new selection to the.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Viewers so everybody shuts.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Up the guy's name Is Bob, christiansen and it you,
know he, says quote it cuts, through but it doesn't
have to be loud in your. Face it's almost, subliminal
which is all the reason why people say they like.
It and they've caught onto it and they've heard it
whether they.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Know it or. Not the chimey create is now a universal.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Signal and the pick Is Gray's, Abel North Dakota, state you,
know and and it is it's it's kind of become this,
thing AND i think it's really.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Cool and.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
ESPN's new vice president of, production a guy by name
Of Steve, ackles, SAID i always remember when they're draft being,
on but it's kind of background and you're doing stuff
around the, house AND i just, thought is there some
sort of alert or chime where the commissioner whoever was
(30:19):
going to come out and make the, pick helped the
viewer pay more.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Attention.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Well the pitch landed ON Espn creative music Director Kevin
wilson's desk with two primary. Inspirations, first it could mimic
the news banner that flashed over live. Games and now
it's just become this iconic. Thing CAN i hear it?
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Again? Chris can we hear that?
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Chime it kind of gets you going a little bit,
right like we only get to hear it three days a.
Year that is, true you, know three days a, year last, night,
tonight and. Tomorrow so's it's kind of, oh shut, up
So yhawks are picking here at number. Fifty let's Go Jaye,
(31:03):
Higgins come, on come, On Elijah, royal let's Go Bason.
Taylor SO i think it's kind of, cool and it's
amazing how something like that ends up becoming an iconic
thing that you, know you're, RIGHT nba doesn't have. That we, Know,
(31:24):
BASEBALL i, MEAN i don't even like baseball. DRAFT i
don't even WATCH. Nhl, NO i don't think THE nhl
draft has anything like that, Either but that symbolizes THE.
NFL oh one more. Thing, Please MAY i please ask for?
This SHOULD i say this to the top of the?
Hour can we have a moratorium police on players Hugging Roger.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Goodell i'm over.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
It it's, tired it's, old it's, repetitive and it's just played.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Out stop, it just stop.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
It just give him a nice business handshake if you
want to give him a little bit of sort of you,
know like the you, know the handshake where you put
the hand on his elbow like kind of bro.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Hug that's.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Cool stop with the really bear Hugging Roger. Goodell it
just inflates his already other you, know monstrous.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Ego let's not do, that shall? We let's not do?
Speaker 4 (32:16):
That all?
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Right, yeah we've got a chance coming. Up we got
some more cash to give. Away and how Does gray's
able fit pick grade and scouting intel find? All how
does he fit here In seattle with The. SEAHAWKS i
will tell, You Nick bombgardner kind of suaded me a little.
