Speaker 1 (00:00):
And former Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf finally has a
Hall of Fame quarterback to throw him the ball. Joining
us right now covers the Pittsburgh Steelers for ESPN. She
just did a great hit on Sports Center a couple
hours ago, and now she joins us here on MJ
in the midday Sports Radio ninety three to three KJRFM.
(00:23):
Brooke Prior, Brooke, good to talk to you. Excellent hit
on SportsCenter. And what has it been like now that
the new mister Rogers is coming to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, first of all, I can't believe it's almost been
a full twenty four hours since that news broke. It
feels like it's been two seconds. And also three months,
right Brook. I mean maybe that's because we've waited eighty
five days for this. It still feels a little surreal
that it's finally happened. But I can tell you that
(00:57):
the Steelers were confident the whole time that it was
going to happened. But they're still relieved because this guy's
a wild card. I mean, it's one of those things
where you don't know for certain that he is really
coming until he is in the city. You've agreed to terms.
The name is on the dotted line. So I think
there's there's been an exhale, and I think that you know, yes,
(01:17):
we've seen the breadcrumbs all along. But this is also
not how the Steelers typically do business. I know, last
year there was the prolonged courting of Brandon I Yuk
and whether or not they would get that trade deal
to go through. But like by and large, the Steelers
a are not very active in free agency, at least
pursuing big name free agents or the trade market, and
(01:39):
they also don't do it very publicly. So this has
been kind of a departure from the way they've always
done things in Pittsburgh. So it's kind of crazy to
now see one saga end and now another one beginning
for the next year or so.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
So, Brooke, what was the ultimate catalyst on why this
Steelers decided to pull the trigger and bring in this
Dare I say, and I'm being nicier, complex enigmatic personality
that is really can be a locker room disruptor just
by his presence. Why bring that to Pittsburgh and into
(02:19):
this locker room where you know, Mike Tomlin runs a
pretty tight ship.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, Enigma is a great word. I hear that there's
a documentary series out about the guy named Enigma, so.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
That's right, and I haven't seen it yet Brook either,
so you and me both I gotta watch that too.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I you know, it seems like we should maybe free
up some afternoons with all the free time that I'm
sure I'm gonna have now. I can tell you though,
that Mike Sumlin is really good at managing big personalities,
and I think that for him for the Steelers to
bring in Aaron Rodgers to extend him the contract offer
way back eighty five. I don't know if the contract
(02:59):
offer came out eighty five days ago, but it's been
a while that there has been an offer on the table.
It was a combination of he was willing to be
paid the right price. The Steelers want to get a
deal done that is inexpensive. They want a good bargain.
They were not willing to pay what the Jets were
(03:19):
going to pay for Justin Fields, which until Aaron Rodgers
signs his deal, Justin Fields, I believe is the least
expensive starting veteran quarterback who is not on a rookie deal.
And even that was something that the Steelers didn't want
to pay. So it's the combination of the right asking
price and also the Steelers and Mike Tomlin want to
(03:43):
get over this hump of they have not won a
playoff game since twenty sixteen. I think Mike Tomlin, Seeson,
Aaron Rodgers this kindred spirit of I want to prove
people wrong. Let's unite and prove them wrong together. There's
been a long documented history of the mutual respect between
the two of them. Think about the game in Green
Bay a couple of years ago where Rogers tried to
(04:03):
quick snap and tom And called the time out to
prevent him from getting a free play, and there was
a nod at each a sign of I see your game,
and I appreciate your game, and I'm going to try
to one up you at your game. But I think
that it was just a perfect storm of circumstances. I
don't know how well it'll work out. But it was
also the best option the Steelers had available given the
(04:27):
it was a week quarterback class. They weren't willing to
pay for justin fields, so they weren't really willing to
pay what it costs to have a quarterback in this market,
so they found kind of the guy that checked most
of the boxes. He certainly checked a lot more when
he was younger than forty one years old, and they're
hoping that he can channel some of the four time
(04:48):
MVP play more so than what he was playing the
level he was playing at last year.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Brooke Pryor covers the Steelers for ESPN, joining us here
on MJ in the Midday Sports READI ninety three to
three KJARFM. I think Brook, Now, everybody you know, one
thing about Aaron Rodgers is he's like a Odds makers
making a line in Vegas. They ultimately Brook, you want
half the action on the favorite, half the action on
(05:15):
the underdog. And I feel so that's what you collect
the most juice in veig in the middle. I feel
like with Aaron Rodgers, Brook he's so polarizing and he's
a guy that me and my you know, excellent executive
producer Christopher Kidd, I think he's motivated, he's pissed off,
and he's coming to Pittsburgh with something to prove. Because Brook,
(05:39):
if you look at statistically playing in that mess that
is that was the New York Jets, he actually had
a better statistical season than his final year in Green Bay.
Now he's put in a position to win, he's got
DK Metcalf, former Seahawk. But yet then you hear from
other peoples that always washed. He's a finger pointer, he's
(05:59):
a blamer, he's a locker room cancer. It's like it's
either one of the other. I it's so divisive. He's
one of the most divisive players that you've ever seen.
How are the people in Pittsburgh viewing this acquisition of
bringing this guy into town.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I mean, yes, it's a real rorschack test. I mean
it's first of all, it's great for Pittsburgh Sports Radio
here that they on autopilot. It's amazing because there are
so many different angles, right. But I can tell you
that in the building here they have felt like he
is that guy that's motivated to come and improve. People
(06:37):
wrong that he had a better season than last year suggested,
than the record suggested. I will say that looking at
the numbers, he was not great not facing pressure, which
is I think the biggest red flag. It's one thing
if you have incompletions and interceptions when you're facing pressure,
but his numbers when he was not facing pressure were
worse than Russell Wilson's and I wish that I could
(07:00):
remember those numbers off the top of my head, but
they have left the building. But that was what our
good folks at ESPN Research passed on to me. And
I can also tell you that they felt like all
along he is a plug and play type quarterback. That's
why they were not concerned about when he was going
to show up. That you know, even if it was
(07:20):
training camp, it would still be fine. This is obviously
a better case scenario than that. I think all of
those things are true, that he's motivated, he wants to
prove people wrong. In fact, Broderick Jones just told me,
their left tackle told me last week when I asked
him if he was worried about having to make up
for lost time and getting comfortable and acclimated with Aaron Rodgers,
(07:41):
he said no. I mean that's up to him and
how fired up he is, And if he comes in
feeling like he has something to prove to everybody, then
he'll be willing to work hard. The only thing is
now it's a matter of you can come in wanting
to prove people wrong, but will your body allow you
to do that? And also is that what this team needs.
(08:02):
Do you need to be the guy that puts the
team on his back and isn't just a part of
the equation that is the whole solution every single time
you are the answer. And I don't think that that's
what the Steelers offense needs. So if he's willing to compromise,
to take kind of a step back, acknowledge what his
body can do at this point, what his limitations are
(08:24):
after that Achilles' injury, and be willing to be part
of a balance, yet explosive offense, then it'll go great.
But if it becomes a power struggle and he doesn't
want to run the ball as much as Arthur Smith
and the Steelers organization wants to run it, then I
think there's gonna be some fireworks and it could be
a very divisive and polarizing locker room, which will be
(08:46):
exciting to cover, but also probably a headache. And those
Tuesdays with Pat McAfee will be even more like you
than the past.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Oh boy, oh yeah, I know those those don't stop.
Those keep going. Joined by Brook from ESPN covers the
Steelers for ESPN and Brooke, I can't believe we've gone
nearly thirteen minutes. And I haven't asked you about one
of our former owned Dk Metcalf, who got that big
money contract from the Steelers in the off season after
(09:17):
the Steelers gave up a second round pick to the
Seahawks in exchange. What has been the overall sentiment and
just kind of Dk Metcalf's perception from the organization in
fans so far in Pittsburgh. Is it still the honeymoon stage?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I think so, though, you know, it was interesting Dk
was not around during OTA's at least the practices that
I was at, where you know, we could photograph and
video the wide receiver group. He was not out on
the field. I asked some of his teammates about that,
and they said, well, he was here for earlier parts
of the off season program, watching film with the guys,
getting in the playbook, things like that, so they did
(09:57):
not seem too concern that he was not at OTA.
And I kind of felt like at that point that
that was another bread crumb that Aaron Rodgers was going
to be here before Mini camp. It felt like a
vet move on DK's part to say, oh, you know what,
Aaron Rodgers isn't here yet. I don't know that there's
really a need for me to be here, Like the
real work is going to start when the quarterback shows up,
(10:19):
and as we know, he's already been putting in work
with Aaron Rodgers. They had that workout at UCLA end
of March. I would guess that they have been in
contact since then. And I think that Deck really fits
into what this wide receiver room wants to be, what
they want their identity to be. And that's the word
(10:39):
of the week was grimy is how Robert Woods described
the wide receiver room. That they are just grimy. Do
the dirty work type of receivers, be physical, but also
be a big part of the blocking game. Do things
beyond just a highlight reel catch, and that's going to
be the difference. And I think that DK's playing style
(11:01):
really fits into that. But they do need a wide
receiver too. I think that once again, this is an
area that this team lacks for a second year in
a row. But I think that they're in a better
position having DK as number one versus last year when
George Pickens was the top receiver and then it really
fell off after that because as you guys know, DK
has been in the league for a long time. He
(11:22):
is very consistent and you know what you're going to
get out of him. George Pickens was still so young,
and while he did have those highlight reel catches, he
was I think more inconsistent and just more of a
wild card. There's a lot more variability in his play.
So I think the Steelers overall as a wide receiver
(11:43):
corps are in a better position than they were a
year ago.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Brooke, do you think, and I'm sure Pittsburgh is I
mean that DK is ready to take his game to
the next level and be that one that everybody thought
he was going to be here in Seattle in the
last two years. The numbers certainly didn't reflect that. But
do you think he's ready to step up? And hey,
I want to be mentioned with Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I mean, that's what the contract tells me that they
think he can be. And not only the contract, but
giving up that second round pick. This is an organization
that does not like to part with draft capital, especially
early picks, and they they're not a splashy team in
free agency period. So the fact that they went out
and hunted him down and brought him to Pittsburgh tells
(12:30):
me that that's what they see from him. I think
it's going to be interesting how this year goes and
how much Aaron Rodgers throws the ball. There's obviously only
one football to go around, and they've got a number
of targets, especially when you look at Pat friar Mouth
Darnel Washington. They're going to want to get the titands involved,
especially in an Arthur Smith offense. I think that this year,
(12:55):
I think if DK can be patient. Obviously the Steelers
want him to be a wide receiver, top tier Jamar
Chase level sooner rather than later. But I'm also looking
at his longevity and I think grading this trade, grading
the success of this trade can only be completed after
we get maybe three years down the line and see
(13:15):
what they do at quarterback next year, how he fits
in with that, how they utilize him in that offense,
because it could be a little bumpy this year. I
have witnessed many bumpy Steelers seasons, especially on offense when
they you know, are trying to go through Mitch Trubisky
and Kenny Pickett and Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, and
there have been many receivers that have gotten frustrated in
(13:37):
those systems.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Wow, well that'll be interesting to see. Now. Obviously, you know, Brook,
I know they don't flex early, but I think week two,
when dk Metcalf's former team comes to town, that that
should be flexed to Sunday night football. What do you think?
Speaker 2 (13:54):
I mean? Look, you could make a case for the
Steelers first two games right to be on primetime. It's
Week one at the Jets, Week two against Seattle.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
They just decided, you know, the scriptwriters really they had
one up their sleeve here. They knew that Rogers was
eventually going to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, and they're just
giving us all the storylines, all the revenge tours right
out of the gate. So I personally am okay with
these with the early kicktimes because I am not going
(14:23):
to ask for primetime and a late night, but I
can imagine there will be a national audience for both
if they somehow, you know, if the flex gods came
down and changed the rules so that that could happen.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
That would be great. Brooke, how long have you been
covering the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I have been covering the Steelers since twenty nineteen. Okay,
and my first official game solo on the job, I
took over for Jeremy Fowler. My first game was when
Ben Roethlisberger heard his elbow and was out for the
rest of the season. So it has been NonStop ever since.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Wow, what, I just got a question from the I've
always you know, I've visited Pittsburgh a few times, very
nice city. How big, Like, are the Steelers bigger than
religion there? Yes?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Absolutely. I don't think I had a grasp on just
how significant the Steelers were to Pittsburgh until I got here,
and then I quickly understood. And the craziest part is
it's not just that within the city they are everything.
But I can't go anywhere literally in the world without
(15:33):
running into a Steelers fan or ceiling or seeing a
Steeler's logo. Like I was in Scotland, i saw them.
I've been in Antigua and seen a Steeler's logo like
you name it. The amount of Steelers fans, it's overwhelming
and a little intimidating when you start thinking about it
as a reporter, like, wow, there a lot of people
(15:53):
could be reading what I say and what I report,
so I better make sure.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I'm right, you know. One of the things I never
knew is that why the Steelers only had have that
great logo on one side of the helmet. And apparently
I did some research, saying on the Steelers official website
that Jack Hart was the team's equipment manager back in
the day and he was instructed by the late great
(16:18):
Art Rooney to put the logo only on one side
of the helmet as a visual test to see how
it looked. The team liked the look, and he decided
to keep the logo just on one side forever.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
That's the most Steelers I've ever heard that if you've
ever wondered, like, what, how does the Steelers organization operate?
If something has worked in the past and it worked, well,
they're going to keep doing it until the wheels fall off.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Right three coaches in their entire history ever, exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
They are the model of consistency.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
They are a better or worse.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Hey, Brooke, always enjoy your work, and we will certainly
be catching up with you, because I'll tell you this.
Whatever you know, the long waiting for mister Rogers to
come to town, Well the circus has come to town now,
and I don't I have a feeling you're gonna be
busier than Grand Central Station from here on out.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
As I've I've got a full stock of Celsius in
my fridge and I'm just gonna be mainlining them for
at least the next year through the end of this contract,
and then we'll see.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
There you go. All right, Brook Pryor from ESPN covering
the Steelers. Thanks a lot, Brooke, We appreciate the time.
Thanks for having me, all right, Brook Pryor? What do
you say? Text of the day four nine four five one?
Coming up next? Oh, by the way, we will be
giving away officially has been officially approved by Purple Sheet
himself that the Russell Wilson autographed official authorized NFL football,
(17:46):
which is known as the Duke that they use on Sundays.
You got to come out tomorrow. You want to win it,
Coming out to Arnold's Appliances in Bellevue between noon to
two tomorrow and we will enter you with a chance
to win the rous Soul Wilson Autograph Football Can't Wait?
Four nine four five one is the what do you say?
Text of the day? What did you think when Haliburton
(18:08):
hit that shot? And do you still believe that the
Pacers have a legitimate chance to win three out of
the next six games and beat the thunder. All that
next with Christopher Kidd on MJ in the Midday, casting
live from.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
The R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now back
to MJ in the Midday on your home for the Huskies,
Kraken and Sounders Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
R FM.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
What do you say? Text of the day? All right,
this is from early in the show. Yeah, from the
two six. Yeah, keep that football still our only winning
Super Bowl quarterback. Something you pass down to your kids.
Palmer and Maple Valley From the four to two five.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
I was in my truck watching the game on the phone.
Was lagging behind the video by at least a second.
I thought I saw Hollyburdon make it, but wasn't sure
because the audio hadn't confirmed. When the audio came through,
I started yelling and screaming, Yes, yes, felt nothing but
absolute joy and happiness.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
And that's just one game.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
The one game.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
They gotta win three more though, Uh yeah, how about
this one from the two oh six? Kind of off
what you just read? I turned last night's game off
in the third quarter. I saw the way the rest
were calling every foul four ok C. I saw the
way they let Sga and Caruso do whatever they wanted,
and I was pissed. After I got home, my buddy
texted me and I looked a score up and I
(19:37):
could not believe my eyes. And then he puts another
amazing surprise. Today's a wonderful day. Go Pacers from the
two oh six. I was pump when Hollyburton hit that
last shot. I dropped one hundred dollars on them winning
the championship, just because I don't want to, O guess
you to win.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Let's fn go Pacers.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
From the two five three, keep licking Okac's boots. Indy
just showed you last night. Why ok See isn't winning
this thing? From the two six. MJ Pacers have been
forty seven to twenty since January. No fluke like them
to win so sweet. Yeah, no, they definitely are. And
(20:19):
by the way, did you know last night the Oklahoma
City Thunder just like in the first round Game five,
uh and the East Finals versus the Knicks and last
night and then East Semis game two, the other team
had one hundred chance to win and they came back
(20:41):
in those four games and won all of them. That's insane.
Let's see here, F you thunder, clap clap, clap, F
you thunder clap clap clap. Yeah, I hear you, I
hear you.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
MJ. In the eleven o'clock hour, you went on Mariner's soliloquy.
We'll call it, someone responded from the two five to
three yawn. Absolutely not surprised at all. The annual collapse.
It's like death and taxis.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
It's given.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah. Went to the game yesterday at T Mobile Park.
Absolutely beautiful day. Cal did his thing. The closest Julio
got to first base was walking back to the dugout.
Dylan Moore swung for the fences in the bottom of
the ninth with the runner on first base. Bad baseball.
From the two five to three.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
This is from the six to one to nine.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Also a great wrestling move by one of my favorites,
Ray Mysterious.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Oh he is phenomenal, Still going too, still going, Oh, Mike,
he might out he might out live. Not I'll live,
but we don't want that. No, we don't want any
paradout live their child. But he might outlast his son.
Dominic in the wrestling business. That's how I know it's
a long season. There are runs both good and bad.
Give it time, MJ. Yeah, I know, I know. Uh,
(22:09):
let's see here, you guys are crazy. From the five
to ZHO nine, Rogers is done. I bet Chris one
hundred dollars they missed the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Wow, all right, not spicy there, yep. From our guy
Kyle and Kenmore, it's simple. John and Jerry are cowards.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Ah, I saw that. From the four to two five, dude,
you smell la la lao what MJ is cooking? Uh? Yes?
From the two h six Aaron Rodgers is not a winner.
He would rather not try to throw a touchdown and
risk the interception than attempt to throw the touchdown to
win the game if the interception is possible. All he
(22:50):
cares about is stats more than winning the game. As
a Niner fan, I never feared him. The playoffs you
can break his will two thousand and eight most if
your quarterback, I think I ever in any season. The
following season, when they went fifteen and one, they lost.
He became a non winner after that.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
From the two oh six, two offensive head cases on
one team that favored the defense. Ah, sit back and
watch the Pooh Show.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Yeah, yeah, let's see to do two oh six? How
much longer to the Ems trade col to the Yankees
or Dodgers, get Jerry a bunch of prospects, and bring
up Ford full time. That's Harry Ford. It's gonna happen
because the Ems never keep their superstar players.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Well, I don't need to go on a list of
players that haven't made it in Seattle as you know,
superstars that they should have been for years to come. Hell,
there's a picture that no longer was in Seattle that
everyone thought made a poor decision. It wasn't really up
to him and I wasn't and Randy Johnson n Yeah.
So just one example, obviously, this is from the four
(23:58):
two five. Aaron Rodgers is going to have a really
good season. Last year, it was his first year off
that Achigley's injury, where he was tenanted his first half
of the season testing the ankle out. It was more
comfortable the second season, second part of the season. Now
he has a full off season and a second year
(24:19):
since that major injury, he'll be a lot better.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
I think. So I'm with him. I'm with him. We
got four to row that are just burning the Marinders
From Jeremy in the four TOWO five, why win at
home when we can get Hello Kiddy night as well?
From the four to five go Marco M's ownership in
front office are trash and consistently disappoint. You build a
(24:43):
cheap team and this is the result. From the three
to six, so the Mariners are a Ponzi scheme. They
always have been. And from the two to zho six,
buckle up. Oh there's five of them, buckle up and
enjoy the bumpy ride. And from the four to two five,
let's name that player who has declining back average, declining
OBP and declining ops for four consecutive years, Julio.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Last one for me from the four to two five.
Speaker 6 (25:09):
You wouldn't catch me watching many NBA games from start
to finish in two thousand and seven, but last night
got me much more excited to get a team back
in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
That's what I like to hear, it man, That's what
I like to hear. From the two five to three
any msfam surprise plus, can we get some non geriatric
eyes calling balls and strikes? Well, don't worry, that's coming
next year. Rob Manford. That's one of the good things
he will do with the automatic ball strike zone from
the two five to three as well. I'm a huge
(25:41):
SuperSonics fan, grew up in the nineties going to the
Games Coliseum, Tacoma Dome, ki Arena. I'm rooting for OKC.
They're a good team. I'm not falling into the narrative
having to hate them because they're not in Seattle. Here's
I mean, listen, I'm not gonna tell anybody that you can't,
you know, do what you want to do. Get why
you would hate them, I get it. I just think
(26:02):
that they're unbelievable. I know I had a horrible pick
yes or at Halliburton, but you know what that's on
Haliburton and Rick Carlyle. He could have gone for thirty
if he wanted to. He's very passive when he adds
the ball way too passive. Last two Q, I mean kid,
last two kid for two oh six MJ. Get in
touch with your boresaid connection. Speaking of the great Patrick
(26:25):
at Donovan's delliing provision, trade that damn ball from Russell
Wilson in for a year's worth of free sandwiches for
the two oh six. All of these fake Pacer fans
make me sick. Get over at people. We will get
our sonics back. OKC is not representing Seattle. The defense
on that last possession by a good defensive team was terrible.
(26:47):
Kid kill the music. There's something that they said there,
and I will tell you. Let me go ahead and
apologize to the audience because we had so much on
the agenda today. Kid, I gotta read this yesterday. It's
not long. Adam Silver met with the media and he's
talking about the possibility of expansion at the Owner's Meaning
(27:07):
in Las Vegas in July. Quote, oh you got to sound.
Oh let's go. Let's take it from the commission can
say it better than me.
Speaker 7 (27:15):
What is the current temperature among the board of governors
to expand the NBA and you know whether it's Seattle
or another American city. Just what have you guys found
in your committees so far?
Speaker 8 (27:28):
Joe, Let me answer expansion two ways. One there, of
course our expansion of current NBA teams. The current sense
is we should be exploring it. I don't think it's
automatic because it depends on your perspective on the future
of the league. As I've said before, expansion in a
way is selling equity in the league, and if you
believe in the league, you don't necessarily want to add partners.
(27:51):
On the other hand, that we recognize there are underserved
markets in the United States and elsewhere, and I think
markets that there's a to have NBA teams, probably even
if we were to expand more than we can serve.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Okay, F elsewhere. I want Seattle, F elsewhere, Silver. We
don't care about elsewhere. You not you, your former boss,
the late David Stern, allowed this travesty to occur. F elsewhere.
Get it done in Seattle. I don't give an f
about Vegas. I don't give an f about Kansas City,
(28:25):
Saint Louis, Nashville, wherever. Seattle, that's what counts. And if
you gotta, if you don't want to expand, then take
it away from Memphis or some other garbage market like that.
I don't want to hear about elsewhere. Get it done.
But let's hope the owners of beings in Vegas will
get it done. One more I'm gonna read from the
three six to oh. Because of you, Mark James, I
(28:47):
am watching basketball again. F OKC and go Sonic's exclamation point, Well,
said the Mayor of Maple Valley. Coming up next before
I forget, thank you to Brook pop Brook, Brooke Pryor
say that quickly from ESPN covering the Steelers and Lee
Sterling for Paramount Sports. Also, we're gonna give away an
(29:10):
official NFL football autograph, but the only Super Bowl winning
quarterback in Seahawks history, Russell Wilson, tomorrow coming out to
Arnold's appliances in Bellevue, meet yours truly will somebody will
walk away with a Russell Wilson autograph football And if
you're a Hawks fan, to me, that's a must have.
You gotta have that and put that in your man cave.
(29:31):
Final segment next with the Mayor of Maple Valley crosstalk
right here on MJ in the midday Sports Radio ninety
three to three ks and for an ess coming out
next to the Mayor of Maple Valley's in the house Ian,
(29:52):
what was your reaction when Tyree sallab shop Man so
Jack I couldn't watch the game.
Speaker 9 (30:00):
I neither could Softy. I couldn't watch it.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Watch it. No.
Speaker 9 (30:04):
I watched the end. Yeah, I watch a live Yeah,
But I was like most of it.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
I was like, okay, no.
Speaker 9 (30:12):
When I got home and you know, the mirrors played
the day game and whatever. We're doing some stuff garage
sale for a neighborhood this weekend. You know, I'm kind
of helping out. Well I don't really help much, but
you know, we're doing stuff, and made dinner for the kid.
The wife, his girlfriend were hanging out and I'm like,
I've kind of flipped it back and forth and it
was eleven and it was fourteen.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
It was eleven, and.
Speaker 9 (30:33):
Then flipped it back and was like, oh it's six.
That's interesting. Flipped it back again, just couldn't couldn't stom it.
Flipped it back again when it was three. Yeah, it
was three twice. There was a time when it was
three and it was like a minute and a half
left anyway, and like, okay, well we'll let this thing out.
And then the ball goes out of bounds. They challenge
it like there was no foul, and obviously I'm like, okay, whatever,
(30:56):
nice little give it a go, and they missed the shot.
I'm like okay. And my son's there too, is a
you know, he's twenty two, but a huge, huge NBA fan.
He was a basketball fan and we're watching and like
haliburtons like the hits him, Like we're just like going nuts,
like we're going nuts. Thank god we don't live in
an apartment or something.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
We all we kicked out. It was well, I don't
by the way, I think it would have been justifiable
noise odor and INSCT violation last night and everybody in Seattle.
Here's a weird thing about that, though.
Speaker 9 (31:22):
I like, so that happens and the whole time out
this the ESPN crew, well three tenths there's time to
catch and know there isn't What were they talking about, Well,
were they like it's not I'm like, I hope that
you know what.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
I hope they think that right, catch it right? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (31:39):
And then trying to shoot it yeah, Like you can't
do that. So obviously they had to go for the
alley open. It didn't happen, and we were laughing, like
my son and I were laughing, like, God, what are
the chances SGA gets gets the free throw line here?
You know, like just one of the chances with three
tenths of a second. I know that's all I could think,
you know, maybe an alley but I mean there was
enough height on that like Holdron wasn't gonna get done.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
So but here's the amazing thing about it.
Speaker 9 (32:02):
But that's how we think here because I'm like, sure,
what bad what bad past can happen? Now?
Speaker 1 (32:05):
In the first half last night Mayor, the Patriots had
twenty turnovers. I saw that won the game.
Speaker 9 (32:12):
Well, I think more importantly, their best player at fourteen
points and he had twelve until.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Last I took over seventeen and a half. Trust me,
I know. And here's the thing about he's too passive offensively.
He could go, he could do the shake Gillis Alexander
thirty every game, but he doesn't. He just kind of
he got And you know what I noticed too, Well,
you don't watch the whole game. No, Carlyle wanted Andrew
Nemhard to take the ball up most of the game because,
(32:41):
Okac with Caruso and Sga were pressing from ninety four feet,
so they didn't want that to be extra stress and
tire out Haliburton. Now I get what. I'll tell you what, man, Carlile,
Holy he didn't call time.
Speaker 9 (32:56):
Out there, no, nope, did they have one? Yes, Okay,
he didn't call it time out, Like yeah, I just
I thought that when your best player has effectively twelve
points and you're still in the game, Yeah, that's unreal.
Like I would be little, I would be concerned if
I'm OKAYC, not only did you lose a game at
(33:17):
home and lose home court advantage, SGA went for over
thirty and you're the best player on the other team
didn't do what he normally does. No, like that would
be because he's not going to get twelve or fourteen
in the next game. I would hope not. But he
has to prepare there to do that. Their defense is
special to get that all that. But like you know,
it's just what a glorious day. I mean, I don't
know how even if, even if, even though they win it,
(33:40):
that's fine. I've convinced myself they're going to win it.
I've kind of accepted that. I think a lot of
us here in Seattle have. But last night was really entertaining.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
I know it just I know, well, Game one of
the Stanley Cup, as you will know how great that was.
And I think Tyre's haliburt and the Pacers said, hey, uh, Edmonton, Florida,
hold our beers. Yeah, I think they did hold on. Well,
except for one thing.
Speaker 9 (34:01):
The NHL game was it was good to hold the
sixty eighty nine minutes and twenty nine seconds great, unbelievable.
That game wasn't a great game by all. I mean,
I know, Chris, was it good?
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Was it good?
Speaker 1 (34:11):
I mean most of it?
Speaker 9 (34:12):
Though they're down by double digits, whole game was a
good game. You watch more NBA than than I do.
Speaker 6 (34:17):
It was a decent game. I saw the fight. It
wasn't I knew they were going to be the jogger,
not right. They were doing things that they normally.
Speaker 9 (34:23):
When I think of a great game, I think of
one that's kind of back and forth and has like
ten lead changes and all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Wasn't it wasn't that?
Speaker 9 (34:29):
Yeah, no, No, if you're asking for a finish, pretty
hard to top that one. Pretty hard to top that one.
And yeah, you can wear that. Their dust bowlers wear
that one.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
For a while. Yeah, that was great.
Speaker 9 (34:40):
Game two on Sunday, right.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Game two on Sunday night, and then games have to
watch that. I can't watch it, and then Game three
is until Wednesday. But they change venues like boy, they
get man, they get that load management. But Game four
will be Friday, so so that what do you got
covered it?
Speaker 9 (34:55):
Part of it I think is in defference of the
media too, like you douys have to cover it. I mean,
Charter plays me nothing. But it's like the guys the
thing like Edmonton Edmonton tonight right brutal until Monday. That's
because they got to get people down. Who you got
coming up today? And Danny old Weekly visit. Nobody enjoyed
that more than Danie O'Neil did in New York City
(35:17):
last night. He'll tell you why he lives in New
York City. Yeah, that's the whole stick. He's uh, it's
the best sports writing for Seattle out of New York
City and he'll do that. He'll talk to us at
one twenty and then uh, ed Zoe's gonna join us.
Eddie old Check is going.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
To join us coming up at two nice game tonight.
He's calling the game tonight and he's got him on
the game night. You got him game day my teammate.
Speaker 9 (35:36):
Man, that's gonna help me out. Yeah, he's my guy.
So he's Uh, Ede's gonna here's the thing with ed Zoe,
by the way, he's got an opportunity to talk by
the way, the.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Best, the best part of the broadcast. Oh I know,
I said you got anything to say.
Speaker 9 (35:50):
Yeah, he'll be on, he'll be fired up coming up today,
all right, good looking forward to that and uh yes,
coming out to Arnol's Appliances in Bellevue tomorrow to two.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
We have an actual NFL football they use on Game
Dye on Sundays called the Duke, autographed by Russell Wilson.
Ian Furness was fighting for it. I told Ian, we
gotta give it away. I know you wanted it bad.
Speaker 9 (36:14):
I've been throwing that thing around rather thing the signature off.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
No he didn't. We'll have it tomorrow Arnold's applies and
Bill we put it out there. Somebody's gonna win it.
Come on out tomorrow between un to two thanks to
Christopher Kidd. Have a great weekend. See you on Monday, Seattle,
And who knows, maybe Monday morning the Pacers could be
up to nothing. We'll see right here on ninety three
(36:39):
to three kJ R at them
