(00:00):
One A one point five. Ibe afm Madison's classic rock Metstallica and this
back to work Monday, also Mondayswith Matt's the Voice of the Badger's Matt
Lupe. He is with us fromthe Sunshine States. Matt, how are
you do it all? Man?How's it going? Doing good today?
We'll touch on why you're in Floridahere in a few minutes. I'm sure
people know, but I want tojump right to Badger football. Big win
(00:21):
this past Saturday Nights, after threelosses in a row, Badgers bounce back
twenty four to seventeen overtime win overNebraska. And that as I watched that
game, as I saw it kindof come to a conclusion. I thought
of the word finish, which coachFickle had, you know, really stressed
all year along with this program, and it finally kind of all came together
Saturday night. Yeah, they didit against Illinois, and then the other
(00:42):
games which were watchers, they clearlydidn't do. And on Saturday when it
was probably a good check for twothings, those who actually stuck around and
consumed the game after the first quarterand the old takes exposed probably probably a
field day. The number of peoplehad the tweet fest after the first quarter
(01:03):
when when it looked like the wheelshad had fallen off for good for this
year. I mean, Nebraska jumpson Wisconsin some big plays and fourteen nothing
and they really think of the worstand they you know, we had no
idea, I had no idea howthat team was good, how this Wisconsin
team was going to come out onSaturday. And we got the answer,
and they came out really poorly. But the fact they were able to come
(01:27):
back, get some points on theboard, get the touchdown pass, the
Jackson acre, get a field goal, and it got back into the game.
And then you know, Braylen Allen, if you just look at the
statu sheet, it's fairly underwhelming, you know, the number of yards that
he had, but he had twotouchdowns, twenty two carries playing on let's
(01:47):
just say not to not healthy Lenks. You know, he banged up in
the Ohio State game. The vibewasn't good that he was going to play
at all, and Fickle admitted asmuch after the game. That was a
really gutsy effort on his point. We talked a lot in football about business
decisions. That usually means you don'twant to hit anybody. Braylan Allen made
a business decision to go play anddo everything he could to help his team.
So a ton of credit to himand obviously Tanner, Mordecai and everybody
(02:10):
on that team for coming back whenit looked like all was lost. Yeah,
and I mean you talk about BraylnAllen there, that touchdown that he
scored in overtime to put the Badgersover the top. Man, that was
the business decision that was, youknow what, I'm gonna go right through
that line and we're going to scorethis touchdown, which it's so cool to
see, especially as we kind ofwind down the year here and things haven't
gone ass playing. Braylan is stillgiving it one hundred percent, which is
(02:34):
great to see. Hunter Waller also, who's been kind of the leader,
especially on the defense, but youknow, really this entire team. He
went out with what was described asan upper body injury. I'm assuming you
haven't heard anything yet on that.I haven't seen anything either. No.
No, they'll traveling all day Sunday, so no, h Yeah, I
mean injury stuff is so vague anymore. So Yeah, well, hockey guys
(03:00):
have been using that for about fiftyyears now and everybody else's take, well,
whatever, he you know, hesprinted off the field at the end
of the first half, you know, and when Nebraska missed the field goal,
and he was really engaged with hiswith his teammates in the second half.
For those guys to be able todo that without their best player on
the defensive side of the ball, and you know, maybe their best player
(03:21):
period, and that that said somethingabout this team. Look, a lot
of folks say, what are youplaying for right now? And I think
anybody who's ever truly played anything, you know, you don't have to be
a major college player or an NFLplayer, but if you're competitive and they're
keeping score, you're always going tobe playing for something. And I think
(03:44):
you know, the people with characterare anyway. And I think this wisconstant
team well flawed without a doubt, and quite frankly, it's been flawed for
the last few years. But theydid show a sense of resolve that that
I admired. I think the fansat Camp Randall Stadium or anybody who tuned
in couldn't help but admire what theywere able to do. Yeah, with
(04:06):
that, when the Badgers are nowBowl eligible for the twenty second straight season.
We'll wrap things up this coming Saturdayagainst Minnesota. That's a two thirty
kick our coverage here on ib AFM. We'll start at twelve thirty, but
we're chatting with the voice of theBadgers, Matt Lapee. Mondays with Matt,
presented by Middleton Ford. Matt,so I mentioned it off the top.
You're in Florida today. Badgers havea game tonight. They will meet
(04:28):
Virginia. And this is slipping mymind right now. I have a written
down the official name of the tournaments. Yeah, it's a game against Virginia.
Title matter. They're playing Virginia.Yeah, play the rest of you
or West Virginia on Wedsday. Yeah. And Tony Bennett, of course the
head coach of Virginia. So that'salways exciting. But I kind of want
to go back to this past Fridaynight big win for the Badgers. Took
(04:49):
down Robert Morris so when they reallyneeded after back to back losses. But
John Blackwell put up eighteen points, all of those in the second half,
and Tyler Wall also joined the onethousand club for the Badgers. And another
thing that I took away from thatgame against Robert Morris. That's the second
game on A four this year thatthe Badgers have had four scores in double
(05:10):
figure, so that leads hopefully togood things. Defense played well against Robert
Morris as well. What do theyhave twenty one turnovers, Matt, Yeah,
twenty one turnovers against Robert Morris. So these are all good things as
they lead into you know, abig time game tonight against Virginia. Yeah.
A lot of those turnovers too, were dribble handoffs that turned into offensive
files. I felt like there wereprobably four of those. Maybe, Yeah,
(05:30):
so they did dead ball turnovers inother words, but yeah, they
I think a couple other things,Ben, they shot. Wisconsin shot forty
three throws in the game, youknow, the twenty seven out of forty,
like a better percentage there, Butthey did shoot a lot of free
throws. Robert Morris had stayed inthe game by hitting a ton of threes.
Some were open looks and some werejust pretty good shots from long range.
(05:51):
And it took a while for Wisconsinto break loose. And the depth
I think showed itself in that gameyou mentioned on Blackwell, but you think,
you know, the stretch drive ofthe game. Aj Stores not on
the floor. Max Klesman is noton the floor. You know. Connor
Recisi, you know, he didnot play in the second half. He's
just still trying to get himself backinto back in the rhythm after getting banged
(06:14):
up in the season opener. ButBlackwell was a big contributor. Kamari McGee
off the bench also helped his team, and you know, they took advantage
of their sides. They were ableto feed Stephen Crowd the ball and he's
you know, he gets sixteen pointsand really it was tough for Robert Morris
to be able to stop him.And Tyler, as he mentioned, you
know, stepped up big as well. So don't think that again tonight because
(06:38):
they're playing a Virginia team that,by Virginia standards, is very inexperienced.
It's hard for me to believe thatTony Bennett in his fifteenth year now as
the head coach of that program nationalchampionship back in twenty nineteen. But you
know, they're going to be veryhard to play. Then they're gonna take
their time in the shot clock. They're gonna may it guard them. All
(06:58):
the stuff that people have said upabout Wisconsin over the years. You always
say that about a Bennett coach team, but they're really through four games anyway.
They've been really good at Virginia onthe defensive end, which anybody who's
followed Tony Bennett that's not a surprise. So it'll be. It should be.
It should be a fun game,a good test again, the latest
in a series of very good testsfor Wisconsin during the non conference portion of
(07:21):
the schedule. Wisconsin and Virginia Tonightd Fort Myers tip off our pregame coverage
