One to one point five. IbyAFM Matt Asson's class Sigronko is some aerosmith
there on a back to work Mondayas well as in Mondays with Matt.
So the voice of the Badger isMatt Leapey. He is with us Matts.
How are you due? Okay,Ben? How are you other than
a bad voice? I'm doing good. I don't blame me for the bad
voice. It was exciting Saturday. We had a court storm at the Cole
(00:22):
Center. Badgery Stick down Marquette seventyfive to sixty four. The third straight
season now Wisconsin has taken down theirin state rival. So big game from
Max Klesman. Matt twenty one pointsin the first half, the most points
he's put up as a Wisconsin Badgerthe Wafford transfer. But he really carried
the team in the first half.Yeah, he did in the first half,
(00:44):
that's for sure. Probably bailed himout of some great possessions, just
his ability to hit some shots, and he was the one guy who could
hit a three pointer during the game. And yeah, he allowed Wisconsin to
build the big lead that it hadup there, as many as sixteen points
thirteen at the half and then theother guys stepped up in the second half.
I mean they rebounded the ball reallywell. When your second chance points
(01:07):
totals are eighteen to two, thatsays a lot the way you're able to
hit the hit the boards, especiallythe offensive boards. And that was actually
one thing about Marquette. As goodas it is and I think it could
be really really good and could makequite a run in March, the rebounding
is not great for Marquettes, andWisconsin was able to take advantage of that
with Steven Krowd, Tyler Wall, their ability, Aj Story's ability to attack
(01:30):
and you know, even if he'smissing the shot, somebody is there,
one of his teammateers there to getthe rebound. And they got to the
foul line a lot. That's beenan emphasis with this team this season.
They weren't very good at the foulline last year and they didn't get to
the foul line a lot last year, but they're getting there more. Twenty
four to twenty eight on Saturday againstMarquette, so they proved that they clearly,
(01:53):
at least for one day on Saturday, we're the better team and were
able to hold off that Marquette run. The second half. Yeah, Wisconsin
out rebounded Marquette thirty eight two twentythree. I'll score them to eighteen to
two in second chance points as well. So let's kind of hint on how,
you know, maybe the maturity we'veseen, or we saw this past
(02:13):
Saturday from this Badger team being ableto withstand that run for Marquette to kind
of start off the second half there. Yeah, and they show that maturity
a couple of times this season, even in Fort Myers when they weren't making
shots, they were falling behind againstSMU, got down double didges, just
stayed with it and they were ableto get the ball on the paint.
Then I think they also knew thatMarquette was going to have a run.
(02:37):
I mean, it's a thirteen pointgame at halftime, and you figure you're
going to take a pretty good punch. Marquette did a really good job.
You know, Max had the bigfirst half and they covered them up in
the second. They were doing areally good job of locking down at least
on him. But then other guyswere able to make plays. And that's
where it helps to be maybe amore experienced team. On the one hand,
(02:57):
with guys like Crow and Wall andhave burned, and that group and
yet newer faces. If it's astore, aj Store, John Blackwell,
Nolan Winter, They've got a goodmix of guys who have been around a
long time, but these younger playersare also coming in and making an impression.
And they're still doing this without Connor'sseason really getting going yet day it's
(03:20):
just been a tough start with himgetting hurt in the first game and just
trying to find a rhythm. Assuminghe does, then you've got a team
that's even more dangerous. They're reallythey're not shooting the three very well right
now, so you figure once Connorcan get going, that's a number that's
that's going to start to get moreof where it needs to be rather than
(03:43):
the thirty percent shooting that it isright now. The voice of the Badger
is Matt Lapaye Mondays with Matt Presentof Bond Middleton Ford. Here on i'b
a putting a wrap in the badgersseventy five to sixty four win over Marquette
from this past Saturday. Now thingsdon't get any easier. They open up
Big ten play tomorrow night against MichiganState on the road in East Lansing,
Matt Michigan State pretty good again thisyear, aren't they? Yeah, I
(04:05):
think they're going to be pretty good. Ben there, They're up and down
right now, they're four and three. They've done, you know, the
better games that they've scheduled, thebetter opponents they've fallen short. The duke
being one. Arizona, who Wisconsinwill see on Saturday out in Tucson was
it was a really good game.I mean, Michigan State and then Arizona
were down to the wire on ThanksgivingDay and in Paul Springs and Arizona was
(04:29):
able to make some shots. MichiganState is a team that's not shooting the
three well at all either. They'retwenty seven percent. The first couple of
games they weren't even close to thatnumber. But you also know they have
scoring capability. Tyson Walker been inthe program a while transfer from Northeastern,
averaging twenty points a game. Jadeakens Ma Lee call they too have a
blend of older guys and really promisingfreshmen. So it's always dangerous to assume
(04:55):
things. But if you're going toassume something, you figure at Tom Izzo,
coach Michigan State team is going tofigure it out. You just sold.
For Wisconsin's sake that they figure itout starting Wednesday, because they have
the capability of being really, reallygood, but so far the Spartans have
been pretty inconsistent. Wisconsin and MichiganState tomorrow night. Our coverage here on
ib AFM starts at five. Tipoff is at six. Now we move
(05:17):
over to the grid iron. Wefound out yesterday Wisconsin will meet LSU in
the Relyaquest Bowl January first, inSampa. LSU what They've won five of
their last six or no, sixof their last seven games. Jayden Daniels,
the Arizona State transfer, he couldwin the Heisman this year as well.
Badger is going to have their handsfull with LSUL. Yeah, yeah,
(05:40):
they will. And then a bigquestion with a lot of these Bowl
games, including this one, ishow many of the of the front line
players are going to play. Ithink with Wisconsin and we know Braillen Allen
isn't, but you know, othersare probably still trying to figure that out.
I think most of the most ofthe Wisconsin guys are probably the type
of players that it wouldn't hurt toplay because they're not first round draft picks.
(06:02):
We'll see what LSU does that thiswill be if LSU plays most,
if not all, of its frontlineplayers, this will be by far the
best offense, though un faced,Wisconsin will to face this season. You
know, with they kind of hearthat. Jadon Daniels said, this team
scores well into the forties on aweekly basis, So it'll be it's going
(06:26):
to be a very difficult test, probably surprising to people. I mean,
I think some of us knew thatthat Tampa was a possibility. It seemed
like Nashville was more of the probability. But given what apparently transpired over the
weekend with the conference championship games,Wisconsin gets a New Year's Day games.
So it's uh, it is goingto be one heck of a test for
(06:50):
the Badgers to take on an LSUteam that was that's pretty good in a
conference that's not half bad the hasCC. So it'll be it'll be fun.
Hopefully it'll be a fun, fungame, I think, but it's
going to be that test, andI know all these Badger players who are
going to be evolved are looking forwardbecause it's a great measuring stick to see
where they are. Yeah, Wisconsin, LSU January first, rely on Quest
(07:12):
Bowl in Tampa. We'll have thatgame for you right here. Run,
I'd be a f So, Matt, I kind of want to ask you
about the College football Playoff. Didyou have any issues with the four teams
who are in there? Washington,Michigan, Alabama, Texas. Well,
it's hard to uh to exclude aFlorida State team. You know, I
understand the reasoning. I don't particularlylike it. You know, Florida Florida
(07:33):
State's quarterback gets hurt, it's downto its third string quarterback, but it's
an undefeated Power five team. Strengthto schedule did not match up with the
four that got in. You couldprobably argue that Georgia maybe should have even
been ahead of Florida State. Butit's it just it shows the differences in
the college game. I mean, let's say the Packers keep playing well and
(07:56):
then Jordan Love gets hurt late andthe NFL Playoff selection committee says, ah,
you know, your record's good,NUB but you can't get in the
playoff. You're not damn sorry. So it's you know, best teams,
most deserving teams. It just dependson how you want to how you want
to spend it. How you wantto make it fit your argument. The
(08:16):
good news, I guess is thatnext year you'll have a twelve team playoff
and the thirteenth team is going tobe upset because a group of five school
Ben is going to get the highestranked group of five gets a spot.
So even though it might not beone of the twelve best, it's still
going to get a spot. Sothis was unusual this year, Ben,
(08:37):
because a lot of years in theplayoff it's hard to come up with four
teams. I mean you can thinkof two, maybe three, and this
year you had six really vying forfour spots. So it's a hard it's
a tough toll to swallow for Florida'sdate. Like I said, I get
it, but it just you know, it's the latest example that fair doesn't
(08:58):
always matter, and certainly it's thecase with Floresta State. Yeah, I
think it's a fan though. I'mokay with this because I think these four
teams that are in are going tohave a better matchups for us to watch.
But if I were a Florida Statefan, I would be screaming from
the rooftops. I really would say, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's
call it what it is. It'sa television show. Yeah, I mean
it's the same thing, but thesame thing with the NCAA tournament. I
(09:20):
mean you now, how much youknow TCU getting boat raced by by Georgia
and the title game after it beatMichigan. You know, does that factor
into what the committee is thinking? But yeah, I think you know,
Michigan Alabama game is going to geta big number. Uh you know,
a lot of a lot of eyeballsare going to be tuned into that game.
(09:41):
And then obviously Washington Texas as well. I mean you've got two really
electrifying offenses there, so uh yeah, I think you have the makings of
a really good playoff. Last year, the semi final games we're both exciting,
which is a departure from the normhere in this unfortunately that the title
(10:01):
game is a route. So yeah, I think you've got four teams where
there doesn't appear to be a greatseparation. So that's what makes this year
a little different than most in thisfourteen playoff era, talker the Voice of
the Badgers Matt Leavee Moneys with Mattpresented by Middleton Ford on iv af FEN.
Last question Matt's transfer portal is opennow. In college football, we
(10:24):
saw the Badgers. They have alinebacker who committed from Syracuse. I believe
it was transferring in. Were youat all surprised to see that Kyle McCord
put his name into the transfer portalstarting quarterback for Ohio State. I was
surprised, But should I be?No, not really. I think even
some hints that the Ryan Day wasdropping, they were really you know what,
(10:46):
he wasn't disparaging necessarily, but theyweren't ready to commit to him being
the quarterback moving forward, and maybethey already knew something. He Very little
surprises me these days in college athletics. With with with you know, there's
gonna be a lot of quarterbacks inthe portal. There already are, and
they will likely be more so.It's it's going to be really interesting.
(11:09):
You know, you can see whatWisconsin does if you know, the Badgers
dip in. My guess is yes, uh, they will see if there's
an experienced quarterback in the portal thatthey could bring in. They've got some
good young talent here to be sure. But yeah, McCord was, he
was. He had a really goodyear, a good solid year. Ben
but he's he's not as dynamic aswhat they've had with, you know,
(11:33):
guys like C. J. Stroud. Obviously, you're justin Field's very dynamic
college quarterbacks. So no, Ican't say I'm not surprised. All right,
Well, that is the voice ofthe Badger. Is Matt Leap That
was just my question I wanted toask, not for everyone else listening out
there anyways, Matt's have fun tomorrownight, hopefully the voice you know a
lot of a tea with lemon inand something like that. You know all
the tricks though, Yeah, thatare good bourbon. I love it,
(11:58):
