One to one point five. IbAFM Madison's classic Rock the lad is out
on this President's Day back to workMonday for some of us here on ib
AFM as we want come in thevoice of the Badgers, Matt Lepe.
Here's time with us, presented byMiddleton for Matt. So are you today,
goodwill man? How's it going.Everything's going well, except for being
back in Wisconsin after being in Mexicofor a week, but that is what

(00:23):
it is. We love the weatheranyways. Hey, so let's look back
to Saturday. Wisconsin fell eighty eightto eighty six to Iowa in overtime offensively,
especially when the game first got going. On Saturday, Badgers five for
seven from three point land. Theyshot eighty percent in their first fifteen total
shots fourteen assists as well. Butthen these defensive lapses really started to show

(00:44):
up and let Iowa build some confidence, which they carried the rest of the
game, which could be a dangerousthing against Iowa. To begin with,
Iowa has not been known as agreat defensive team by any stretch, but
it will score. It gets intothe eighties with regularity, and Wisconsin,
You're right, really played well offensivelyin the first half, didn't shoot it
nearly as well in the second half, and when that happens, the warts

(01:08):
at the other end of the floorbecome more visible. And that was what
happened. Tony Perkins really good guard, tough, just checks a lot of
boxes for Iowague at two points inthe first half, didn't play a lot,
was not playing well. And evenButch he called it kind of a
fearful thing going into the second half, like, look for this guy to

(01:29):
get it going, and he did, and he right away. They plays
at both ends of the floor.Owen Freeman, in my opinion, is
the best freshman in the Big Ten. I think a lot of people who
follow this league would tell you thesame thing was content had a hard time
containing him. And I think oneof the hidden things to Ben is Wisconsin.
I mean, the defensive flaws wereimpossible to ignore, but Wisconsin left

(01:52):
a lot of meat on the boatat the foul line, miss a lot
of free throws. This is avery good free throw shooting team, and
there's been a little bit of slippagethere. Slippage on Saturday and in a
two point game when it goes intoovertime, when you're missing more than usual
at the foul line. That reallycomes back to bite you too. Yeah,
Badger's nineteen for twenty eight from thefree throw line. Iowa, on

(02:13):
the other hand, twenty four fourthirty from the free throw line. So
yeah, it's the meat on thebone. The Badger's left it there.
And let's kind of talk about theBadger's forty six points in the paint twenty
is says seven turnovers. Typically, that's a formula. As I heard you
talk about postgame on Saturday, thatthe Badgers they win games when they have
stat lines like that. It iswhat makes it, you know, stunning

(02:34):
a first of all game that wasin the high seventies of the end of
regulation in a game into the eighties, it's a little bit different for Badger
fans to view. Look, Ithink at this stage of the year,
and Brian and I were talking aboutthis as well, to an extent,
you are who you are, however, defensively, and you know, he
knows the game inside and out andhe would insist, and I think great

(02:59):
guard coaching Staffwood as well, isthat there are still some things that are
fixable on the defensive end. It'sit's probably not going to be a great
defensive team by now when you getinto the path the midway point of February,
But there are still if you couldjust be a little bit better in
some certain areas and be able tostop the ball a little bit better in

(03:21):
certain areas, then you can begood enough provided your offense continues to play
at a clip on or about thelevel it has played this season. But
if that doesn't happen, that it'sgoing to be really tough for Wisconsin to
turn this around. Now it's ateam and fast five out of six.
They thought they had some things fixeddefensively against Ohio State, but Iowa was

(03:44):
a kind of team offensively that canexpose you. Yeah, if you are
not right on the defensive end. That's what they get tomorrow is it's a
much different game because Maryland does notscore it well at all, doesn't shoot
the ball well at all, butit plays a really good defense, and
it does have a very very goodpoint guard in Jamiir Young who does score
it. So the Badgers will havea little bit of a different type of

(04:06):
challenge, albeit with a very goodscoring guard in Jamiir Young. Wisconsin and
Maryland tomorrow, as you heard Mattsay, they are coverage here on IBAFM
starts at seven, tip off isat eight, and I like to throw
up there too. That's a peacockgame. So if you're not into the
streaming thing, you can hear wallbawall coverage here on ib AF FM.
Also, something promising from the gameon Saturday to Matt was his team battling

(04:30):
back in the second half down nineand then they forced this game into overtime.
So that's something good to come ona Saturday. Yeah, you look
at there are positives, as frustratingas it is for fans and most importantly
for the team when you have onethat gets away like that. I mean
they got off to a great startled by thirteen in Iowa with the to
offense is going to come back, and yet i was not a great defensive

(04:53):
team, so that door could beopen. In Wisconsin, was able to
rally in the game, a chanceat both the end of regulation and at
the end of overtime to make bigshots in the closing seconds and just didn't
knock them down. And I thinkone other thing too, Ben Tyler Walt
fouled out. He had foul troublein the game. He fouled out played,

(05:15):
but twenty two minutes in a fortyfive minute game, his versativity was
missed. And it's just it justshows you, you know, wiscontent is
deeper than it's been, you know, for a little while. But you
still need your best players on thefloor playing the normal amount of minutes,
and if that doesn't happen, you'revulnerable. And that was just, I

(05:36):
think, to me, another factorin Wisconsin falling short Talk with the Voice
of the Badgers, Matt Lapey mondayswith Matt's son I BAFM, powered by
our friends over at Middleton Ford.As Matt mentioned, Wisconsin, Maryland tomorrow

was out doing that. But he'sbeen back. He's still used to calling
some Milwaukee Panther basketball games. Theydid a thriller over the weekend at a

(06:18):
shot near the buzzers, so well, you know, put a rib in
on the Packers, on the superBowl and obviously a fair amount of college
basketball talk. Is that we getinto the stretch drive of the regular season.
Yeah, Levy and the pay podcastavailable wherever you enjoy your podcast.
