you know what I mean, Dude. I got before we even kick
into the theme intro, my goodfriend Rodney Ryan out of the Blue,
sends me a T shirt and itsays on it. You know what it
says, it's a lot to puton a T shirt. I just want
to point that out. Yeah, there's a lot of words. I'm not
like this because I'm in Van Halen. I'm in Van Halen because I'm like

(00:42):
this. It's TV show line.Ever, it's so freaking great, and
you know, I'm just like likeyou. I don't order a lot of
shit on Amazon. So when apackage comes from me, I'm like,
oh, this is gonna be this. I'm pretty much know what I order.
You know, When I get apackage, I'm like, well,
I didn't order anything. What thefuck is going on? So I look

(01:04):
at it, I'm like, well, maybe I did. I don't know,
maybe I did. And I openit up and I pull up the
shirt. My wife's standing there. She goes, no way, because she's
a huge fan of The Bear too, you know the TV show The Bear.
She's like, that's fucking great.She said, Oh God, that's

She goes, you guys are children. Let's go. Oh, who's start?

Episode ninety six we about to covertoday. Man. You can catch
us on our YouTube channel. Youcan also download it anywhere you go.
And we've got some feedback from lastepisode, our top five one hit Wonders,

(01:51):
and then this week we had alot to cover. We got a
lot to cover Top five favorite grungeTunes of all Time. I can't believe
we didn't do this one. Firstof all, I know Mike Walker sent
it in this morning, and Ialmost don't remember saying it, but I
obviously sent you a ton of emailsI must have set on the air today.
If anybody has any ideas for topfive, email me. I got

(02:14):
a ton of emails, everything fromDenzel Washington to top songs that you didn't
know what they were singing about. But Mike Walker, he breaks it through,
and so he suggested the top fivegrunge songs. That's that's awesome.
I'm looking forward to for this isthis is gonna be an easy and tough
one. We'll get into that ina couple of minutes. I had something

(02:34):
sent to me in the mail besidesthis really awesome T shirt that thank you
again, rod Uh, that I'lltalk about in a second. That's pretty
cool. And then I've got acouple of I got. I got a
very interesting question to post to theto the family, to the room,
to the playpants I guess uh.And I want to get a lot of
feedback on this because it's gonna bean interesting little topic that will eventually wander

(02:57):
into our top five favorite grunge songs. But Rod you uh, you got
out some feedback from last episode, dude, I'm telling you, we got
probably the biggest response that we've gottenin a long time on our YouTube channel,
play Pants Pod. And last weekwas one hit Wonders, which was
a topic that we were kicking aroundfor a couple of weeks and then we

(03:20):
finally got around to doing it.And you know what's interesting. I like
the people that are kind of adventurous. They they will leave I know cool
Karen does this and hat Trick Brad. Also they know what the topic is
and they want to give their topfives before they're influenced by us. I'm
glad you saw that. That's kindof cool, yeah, because I'm like,

(03:44):
oh, people are starting to jumpingup. They're trying to lay it
out there before they listen, andI think that's a fun game to play.
Yeah. No, I saw thattoo. I thought it was kind
of neat. So hat Trick Bradgreat name, by the way, I
must be a hockey fan. Sohe's he goes here's my top five.
Pre watching y'all's list. Dreamweaver GaryWright in a five play that funky music,

(04:05):
white Boy Wild, Cherry Angel Eyes, Jeff Healey, Damn, that's
a good song. But he hadkid to see the lot? Did you
see the lot? I mean,I guess he's a one hit wonder.
I don't put I don't. Idon't consider him a one hit wonder.
Possum Kingdom Toady's, Yeah, that'sbig here. They're not a one hit

(04:26):
wonder, but everywhere else they areand my Sharona the knack so great list
from hat Trick brad Our Brother,Francis Franco, Francis de Rosa. I'm
gonna post my list first, thenlisten to the pod Flag Polesitta, Harvey
Danger, That's a good one actually, yeah, popular, not a surf,

(04:46):
no rain, blind Melon, Igot a girl tripping, Daisy Damn.
Francis is good, County Blue Cars, Dishwala, Jenny says, Cowboy
moth Wow. Yeah, all listlegit man, totally totally legit. You
know what I find interesting about thatis it you know, Francis a little
bit older than us. I thoughthe would have went further back on that

(05:08):
man, But then when we wereworking with him, he was so about
the musicis Francis was the sales managerwhen we moved into the late nineties,
when we moved down to New Orleans, Francis was there and he was a
sales manager and he was so inour shit about the music. I'm like,
don't you have something to sell?Don't you have salespeople? Like?

(05:30):
He was so concerned about, youknow, are we getting enough spins on
this? And you know, hewas awesome. He was so about the
music, and he was a bigpart of the success of you know,
those early years, those early yearsof KKND. Karen also she put down
her one hit wonder list. Shesaid, this was tough, probably way

(05:51):
out of sync with you guys AllStar by smash Mouth. She definitely put
that one down before the singer passedaway. Rip Stacy's Fountains of Wayne,
My Sharona, the Knack, Good, Better than Ezra, Sex and Candy
Marcy Playground and honorable mentioned Spirit inthe Sky, Imbop, Walking the wild
Side Epic, and one of usJoan Osborne. K that's a top twenty

(06:17):
five, you know what, goingback to the Better Than Era. Good
in the Blood was a hit,and they have had other hits. But
I get it, I get it. I see where you're going with that.
So that's that's totally fine. Andthen I'll just read one more.
Nick Cordova, Rod, What's wrongwith you? Selmahaiak is way hotter than
Penelope Crew's end of story. I'lltell you what I mean. You know,

(06:42):
they're both awesome, They're both unbelievable. I am obsessed with Selmahayak's Instagram.
It's unbelievable how active she is andjust running around in bathing suits and
bikinis and everything else. And Idon't see a lot of I don't see
a lot of output Penelope Cruise. As a matter of fact, I might
not even follow her on social media. But Salmahiak is like the queen right

(07:06):
now. I mean, she's awesome. Her follow is killer. Yeah,
yeah, no, she's she's she'sgood. But that's like, you know,
you're arguing over you know, twoamazing things people, so it's like,
okay, uh, you know youcan't lose on that one. I
don't think. Uh. There wasa guy on our Facebook page at play
Pads Pod and I forget who whoit was because I could look it up,

(07:28):
but I won't. We had putLiving Color cult of Personality as a
one hit wonder. Yeah, anda couple of guys went back and forth.
You know, I let them hashit out. I wasn't going to
get involved, and they said,no, ways, is Living Color a
one hit wonder? We kind oftalked about that. Did they mentioned another?
I mean, if you're gonna arguethat, you gotta give me a

(07:50):
song. Hold on, I'll lookit up. What's the one other song.
I mean, there were other songs. I get that, but I
think it's pretty I think it's prettywell understood and accepted that they are a
one hit wonder. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean just because you
liked the band and all that greatgood stuff. Yeah, we kind of
got into that a little bit whenwe talked about it. I mean,

(08:13):
the Toady's, the Toady's are here, are not a one hit wonder.
They're a local band though better thanas were the same thing in New Orleans.
You know, they're not a onehit wonder. But for the most
part. Yeah, wait, thisis great, This is awesome. I'm
glad look this up. I shoulddo this more often. See, I
mean, it helps to look thingsup every now and then. I know,
I know. Look, Brian Boatman, great name, he says,

(08:33):
Wait, Living Color is not aone hit wonder. I'm kicking ice cubes
under your fridge. He's gonna kickice cubes under your fridge, bro.
And then Greg McGhee says, Iconcur and they also put on a great
show. La la la la.Well, I know oil and Gas Greg,

(08:56):
that's Greg McGhee is he's just sawthem recently. I think they play.
Have you heard of that festival ofthe sands, like Eighties in the
Sand or something like that. Hegoes every year to that and there's always
a bunch of different bands, andusually there's a couple of rock bands there,
and then you know there'll be youknow, the typical eighties type bands.

(09:16):
So I'm not saying that they're notgreat. I'm not saying that they're
not awesome. But nobody's coming atme with another big song. Actually,
Greg Lily says to Brian Boatman, agreed open letter apparently nope was the song.
I don't even know it, Sothat's not a hit. I believe
that's that open letter to a landlord. It's deals with topics and things.

(09:39):
Doesn't mean it's not a bad song, just not a hit write song.
No, look at it. Twoguys that worked in radio or so actually
work in radio and I've never playedthat song in the air. Doesn't make
it right, doesn't make it wrong. But as far as a hit,
no, no, it's a onehit wonder. So a lot of great
feedback. And again this isn't aboutarguing who's you know, which one's better.

(10:00):
It's I got a lot of songsI didn't think we're one hit Wonders
out of the deal, you know, and songs that I had forgotten about.
You know, you can you canrun down the laundry list of shit.
A really really good suggestion too.And this is again I'm getting a
lot of these comments from our YouTubepage and our top five one hit wonders.
Quit quit the podcast, Yeah, guys, quit now. These are

(10:24):
the most shittiest sounding podcasts I've everlistened. No, it doesn't say that
MTZ y'all should have broken this downtop five seventies, eighties, nineties.
Then you could. You could havestrung this along for weeks, which is
pretty brilliant because, like you said, we were thinking that Franco was going

(10:45):
to maybe like you know, throwsome older ones in there. You could
easily do one hit wonders from thosedecades, and I don't think it would
get monotonous. I think, youknow, like we could probably go back
to that. Well yeah, Ithink we will, because we'll run out
of top five ideas by ourselves. So that's that makes sense. Ron.
I wanted to pose this question toyou. This is interesting. I want

(11:07):
to you know, because this isthis is a good music question. For
the room. You know what Imean? This is this is interesting.
This was brought to my attention tomy buddy James, who works in the
biz, in the radio business bythe way, so this is coming from
a very cool place. He says, if Smells like teen Spirit was released
today, would it have the sameimpact it did in nineteen ninety one despite

(11:33):
all the noise? Would it changeeverything? And when he says noise,
I think he means like with theInternet and all the crazy shit. Yeah,
uh no, No, it wasneeded at that time. It was
you know it if you I don'tknow that it would because I think we

(11:56):
do need a we need a changeright now. But I just think it's
it's one of those moments, atthe right place, at the right time.
It was needed, and you know, it was bubbling under for a
long time. You know, whenwe're gonna talk about grunge because we're gonna
do in the top five grunge, you know, they didn't invent it,

(12:18):
and they weren't the first band. You know, there were a lot of
bands that were kicking around Seattle. And you know, if you look at
like the grunge and you go,it goes all the way back to eighty
five with Green River and Sound Gardensin there. The Melvin's are in there,
and Nirvana would tell you right outof the gate that you know,
Melvin's were their biggest influence. ButI don't. I just think that,

(12:39):
No, I don't think it wouldhave the impact that it does. As
a matter of fact, I knowit wouldn't have the impact that it had
at the time. There's a lotof reasons. So like you said,
you know, at the time, there was this weird lull, there's this
you know you ever in ninety likeon the radio, it was just there's
just nothing good on the radio. And then the early nineties it just felt

(13:01):
stale. Everything felt stale. Youknow, you didn't have anything. I
mean, did you really need thatsecond album from Steelheart, You didn't the
third album from Firehouse. None ofit was really doing anything. Yes,
you had your guns and rows andyour metallicas of the world, but overall
it was a staleness in the air. And then Nirvana, who by the
way, didn't want to invent grunge. They just made an album, that's

(13:22):
all they did, you know,And when it came out as a perfect
storm, and you had other bandsthat kind of pushed it up, pushed
it along. You had cultural things, the flannel, the whole thing,
the movies. You look at themovie singles that's at the same time period.
You had a lot of factors kindof adding up to it. Would
it Would it do well today ifit was released? I think it would.

(13:43):
I think it would be a songthat would do well on the rock
charts and the alternative charts. Itwould go up, it would hang out
for a little while, and itwould go down and that would be it.
It would be a song that wasgreat, but it disappears. I
really think that's how it would go. Because we are in a very splintered
world now too, you know.I mean smells like Teen Spirit did kind
of take over. It was allover the place. But with rap being

(14:09):
so strong right now in the lastfifteen years, the rap game is so
strong. Is something going to comeout and blow all of that out of
the water the way that Teen Spiritdid in ninety one. I don't.
I don't think so. I whatI really think where there's going to be
a huge shift. I think it'sgoing to happen in pop music. I

(14:31):
think there's going to be some sortof and I kind of maybe thought that
Billie Eilish was going to do something. I just you're you're looking for that
meteor, you know, to comein like Nirvana and you know, like
that the Seattle, that grunge movement, because what do we talk about?
What are all the bands that gotdestroyed poison? You mentioned steel Hard,

(14:56):
the hair bands that we that wecelebrated and that we love and that we
talked about when we did our topfive hair band list and we were arguing,
what's hair band? But it becamethe songs all became you know,
it was all a formula and theyall look the same, and you know,
they just gave you so much ofit that that's why we needed the
change. I kind of feel likethe pop stars of today and if you

(15:20):
want to get into it, youknow, you got all the Doja cats
out there, and I kind offeel like it might get back to the
music and less about the look. And because all of these girls are Instagram
stars, you know, and Ikind of feel like their fashion and how
they carry themselves on social media isjust as important as the music. Now,
Taylor Swift is kind of a uniquesituation, but she's the biggest star

(15:43):
in the world right now. ButI think pop music might be the next
one to you know, to beknocked on their asses with something like,
you know, something like a jewelrolls in, you know, or something
that is just completely stripped down musicallyand it's not twerking and it's not the

(16:10):
background dancers and girls say this Ican relate to. Right, Yeah,
it's powerful. I think that ifthere's going to be something like that,
it would be in the pomp andit'd be in the pop space right now,
because it's I'd look at these popstars and it's not that's not good,
but the substance and everything, it'syou know, it's more important.

(16:32):
The image is almost more important thanthe music right now. That's exactly where
rock was exactly. Yeah. No, that's a good point. And with
the image stuff those songs, Imean, pop music has always been like
bubble gum. You know, youbuy it, you get that stick of
gum, you chew it, You'relike, this is awesome, and then
after time mention like it sucks, spit it out. That's that's pop music.
It comes and it goes pretty quick, doesn't have a lot of staying
power. That's always been the way, but it is it feels to me

(16:57):
and you know, here, getoff my lawn, you know, Grandpa.
But it feels even more disposal becausemost of it is just that Instagram
fame or you know, you lookat what Country is doing, and I
don't know shit about country, butCountry is kind of making the big stink
right now because whatever that song was, everybody got pissed off about. Well

(17:17):
was that even a good song ornot? I don't know, but it
rose to number one in like threeseconds. Everyone was pissed off and then
it disappeared. You know, Isit because we have so much power of
social media that it's lifting these songsup? Is it not necessarily because they're
good? Well, we're consuming differently, you know, than we were.
You know, if it wasn't onthe radio, if it wasn't on MTV,

(17:40):
then you know, we that's weweren't getting it. That was it.
You know, you had all yourdifferent radio stations with their different formats,
and then you kind of had MTVand that's kind of where we were
getting our stuff. There was noInternet or anything. Now you're consuming all
of this stuff. But I don'tknow if you're talking about Oliver Anthony.
Well that one too. I forgetthat a couple of months ago. Was

(18:00):
that guy that wrote it was allvery political bullshit or you know. Yeah,
And I don't know if that wasa good or bad country song or
not, but I just know itgot white hot for a minute because it
was so controversial and it just blewup. Yeah, country music is uh
is flourishing right now. There's bigcelebrities in there. And again, what

(18:22):
helps that is? You know, and I don't and I play into it.
You know, Laney Wilson is famous, right just like Katie Perry is
famous. It's not so much thatshe's famous in our space because of her
music. It's just she's famous.She's just a famous person. Sure she's

(18:44):
a pop star, but she's aTV star. She's a brand, you
know. Britney Spears showed us thatand Madonna showed us that that they're a
brand. You know. Madonna reallywas a musician, a true musician.
Brittany was more of a brand. And I feel like a lot of these
these this us right now is it'sjust it's a brand and it's not so
much concerned you know you, Imean, you have to have this whole

(19:06):
package now. But yeah, thecountry stars are cultivating these people and they're
becoming famous. You know, LadyWilson, I keep going back to her
because number one, she's beautiful, and she's on Yellowstone. They're you know,
they're famous. Who's famous? Who'sfamous? On alternative radio? Red

(19:30):
Hot Chili Peppers are pretty famous, you know, I mean it comes from
a different name. They can name, you know names, is Rivers Cuomo
famous like that? Not like that, like you know, like we as
there's a big band. Right,But if again, I know I'm talking,

(19:51):
I'll go you know, Katie Perryor any of these other these pop
stars. You know, Pink shecan't, she can't walk down the street,
but Rivers Cuomo can. He prettymuch can boat. The guys didn't
fall Out Boy and Breaking Benjamin andChevelle, and they can go anywhere they
want and they're not gonna get botheredby people. You know, people will

(20:12):
see them here and there. Butyou get my point, right. Pop
musicians are famous. Rappers, hiphop stars, they're famous, yep,
because of social media and their musicand our guys we don't have that fame.
But the guys used to be famous. You know, when white snake

(20:33):
walked around. You knew that withsomebody they looked famous. All rock bands,
they looked like they were rock stars. Yeah, yeah, and you
know, for good or for bad. But I kind of like my rock
stars looking like rock stars, youknow. I like Mona Skin, I
like I like them looking like rockstars, right right, No, it's
like it's Jean Simmons, I think, had a great quote where it's like,

(20:55):
look, I don't want to makeit look if you're gonna be up
on a stage, look like you'resupposed to be on the stage, not
like you're supposed to be sweeping thestadium out after the show's over, you
know what I mean. Like likeGreen Day, We're out there t shirts
for a lot of years in theearly days because they're punk, you know,
But then they started dressing nice. They had the vests and the ties
and they they they had a betterlook, you know. Yeah, and

(21:15):
it works for them, you know. I like the rock start thing.
But yeah, I thought that thatNirvana question was interesting. I was like,
I think the song would do well. It would come out like a
food Fighter song, go up thecharts on the rock charts, do great,
and then we'd be like yeah, cool, and we'd be on the
next. I think your attention spansare shorter now too, you know you
want that next, next, next, next, next. It would be

(21:36):
hard. You know you talk aboutto use your outer space reference of meteors,
right. I think what we haveare all these little comets that come
in and we're like, whoa billyeither that could be said, okay,
not really, And then you know, you get these other bands. Oh
it's the band the led Zeppelin kidsthat they must pissed about. Gredivan Fleet

(21:59):
comes into it. Yeah, awesoonokay, And then we're not going to
get that asteroid, right, thedinosaur killer that Nirvana was, you know,
right, we're not. I don'tsee you as ever getting that.
And I have these conversations with recordguys all the time, and I always
throw this out here. I havethis conversation a lot. I'm like,
man, it is there. Youthink there's never gonna be that Nirvana?
And everyone always say it's kind ofthe same thing. God, I hope

(22:22):
so, but we don't see it. We just don't see it, you
know, because it's too fast now. And it's like with Nirvana, you
had the song and then you hadthat huge video that was just blasted all
over MTV. You know, yougo on YouTube and like when you say,
hey, man, go check outthat hairy style song. I'm like,
all right, So I go andI see the video and it's got
like one billion hits. I'm like, where the fuck have I been?

(22:47):
Yeah, I one billion views? What have I been doing? You know,
You're like, so you're just beingexposed to it. So that's where
it gets really bizarre. You know. It's like, yeah, someone figures
out the secret sauce, they'll beall right. But but going back to
like the red Hot Chili Peppers andthat those guys have got millions of hits
and millions of songs and they're recognizable. I mean, you know, Anthony

(23:08):
Keys was in Point Break. NeedI say more? You know, at
the end of the day, Well, but I think, you know,
I think there's the potential because ofand I'll bring his name back up,
you know, Oliver Anthony. Youknow, he's the kind of outback dude,
the redhead with the beard and RichmondNorth of Richmond. I just looked

(23:29):
it up. Fifty eight million viewsright now. It's four weeks in,
so it's it's still climbing. It'sgetting a million views of it's getting a
million views a day right now.You know, he went on Joe Rogan,
there could be a rock band, and that's how it's going to happen.
By the way, it's going tohappen Oliver Anthony style, that something's

(23:52):
going to get picked up. Thething about it is it won't be something
that you and I love, buthopefully it's something in the rock space,
which is really broad. But it'llbe something that a seventeen year old will
love because that's who fueled seventeen totwenty two, that's who fueled Nirvana,

(24:15):
right, very bad come out.Yeah, I mean, you know,
it'd be nice to jump on thatride as a now fucking fifty four year
old. But it's not gonna belike, it's not gonna be this guitar
awesome thing. But something's going tohappen, and something's going to pop on
YouTube and we'll get our Oliver Anthony. You know, I think we will.

(24:37):
I really do. It'll be Imean, you know the warning you
know those girls came through. Thosewere the girls that they're three sisters.
They're from Mexico. I can't rememberwhere, but they put up a video
of them doing Enter Sandman when theywere you know, maybe the BA player

(25:00):
might have been like nine or ten. And you know, they played Buzzfest
and you know, they they're onthat Metallica tribute album and they tour the
world and everything, and they're arock band. You know, they are
a rock band. Now they're notthere yet too a huge level, but
something's gonna happen. We're gonna geta rock band off of YouTube, or

(25:23):
a rock ish band off of YouTubethat kids are just gonna lose their mind
over, you know, just becauseof what we do for living. So
I like to let people go behindthe curtain because it's fun. You know.
I hope people appreciate it. Isthat almost every day I've got five
or six emails that say, dude, this has got seven million spotifies,

(25:47):
this has got all these streams,it's got all these YouTube he it's this
band is gonna be the next thing. Like it's like record reps are salespeople.
They're trying to sell me to getme to play that song on the
radio. So while I I totallyagree with you, the problem is is
that people in the radio business arejust being all this Oh, this is
gonna be the next big thing. This is gonna be the next big thing.
So we're always getting that force fedat us. You know, the

(26:10):
radio Wizards getting probably twice as muchbecause Houston is such a major market.
So yeah, but those are thoseare bands that because the record labels pushing
them, they're on their label andthey've got all these great it's going to
happen, I say, going back, I gotta go back to Oliver Anthony.
It's gonna be it's gonna be someband that fucking uploads a song from
their living room, from their mom'sbasement because they're gonna be up north and

(26:34):
it's gonna be cold, so they'regonna record something. It's gonna go on
the Internet and then boom, youand I are gonna find out when it's
got twenty million views and they're like, oh shit, what's going on with
this? I keep hearing this storyabout this guy or this band that I
think we're gonna get. It'll bea band that's not signed. It will
be something completely that kids upload andit's just gonna it's gonna connect somehow and

(26:59):
it's and then every record label's gonnago chasing after him and then go ruin
them. Yeah, and then we'regonna be like the sucks and then we're
gonna move on. And see that'sthe problem. There's this kid, I
think he's out of Houston. Hisname is David. He's like seventeen,
and he spells it DA the numberfour I D because you know, you
can't just have you gotta have anumber in your name, now, Rod,
you need to be like Rod.Oh you do zero ro o D

(27:21):
gotcha. Anyway, he was makingmusic and putting it in TikTok videos,
okay, because he's a big videogame player all right, like tons of
video games. So he kept gettinghis and he had like bazillions of people
following him on TikTok and shit,so he was very popular that way.
Well, then he kept getting shutdown because he was using copyrighted music in

(27:44):
these videos. So he was like, well, shit, I want to
have music playing while I'm doing it. So he went and there's some program
and I don't know what the nameof it is that you can really it's
got all these beats on it,and you can do it on your phone.
You can do it on iPhone, some program, some app. He
started making his own music, writinghis own songs, and they're good,
and the record label picked them up, and then they started pushing his songs

(28:07):
on on on different stations, andwe never played That's Old Town Road exactly
the same concept, That's Old TownRoad, you know. I mean he
bought that beat right right, boughtthat beat from like five and then but
that's it. And then somehow gotto Miley. Miley talked her dad into

(28:30):
doing it. But I don't know, I don't know the story to that.
But then I know Trent Resler saidno, no, no, no,
no, no, that's me.Trent Resner gets a ton of money
off of that. Oh yeah,no, no, no, that's that.
Trent Resner gets got eight to millionsof dollars his uh yes, boom
boom, boom boom. I neverheard of D four v d H.

(28:56):
Here with Me sixty five million views, Romantic Comicide seventy three million views.
Oh this one must suck. SleepWell only has seven point seven million views
been up four months. Here withMe seventy million. Oh he's got he's
got two. Here with Me's one'sgot seventy one's got sixty five million remix

(29:22):
Well, but to get to yourpoint, there's a million kids making shit
in their basements or in their mom'syou know, in their bedrooms, and
the record label took notice of it, so they went out and they're trying
to shop this kid around. Well, no one's really biting in the radio
world, it's my point. Butyou can see where these things are out
there happening. They're happening all thetime. It's just will someone break through

(29:42):
and get through the radio and getthrough a shit It will Justin Bieber was
discovered on YouTube way back when.So yeah, I think it's gonna happen.
I think, I mean, itcould be in and out. It
remains to be seen. You knowwhat what happened opens to you know Oliver
Anthony, who is still a hugestory, and you know, Joe Rogan

(30:06):
got him on his podcast, youknow, three weeks in and uh,
I don't have Joe Rogan numbers,but I imagine. I mean, this
kid's got a lot of people allkid, he's a guy. He's got
a lot of people interested in him, that's for sure. Yeah. But
see, here's the thing about youknow, going back to the Nirvana thing,
is they followed it up with moresongs you know that that helps smells
like teen Spirit. Nirvana kept releasinggood songs and we're very well received.

(30:30):
So you could have that one song, but it ain't gonna be this that
song that gets you over the hump. To be like a Nirvana, you
need to have the hits afterwards too. They had this song, and they
also had a perfect album to backit up. They had a perfect album
where it's just like holy shit, and then you look at how it's held
up over time, and it's oneof those albums that come on everybody knows

(30:53):
every single song. You know,Breed wasn't really played, Polly wasn't really
played all that much on the onthe radio, but you owe it now,
you know. It's just one ofthose albums like you know every single
song on van Halen one, oryou know every single song on Guns and
Rows, you know all the bigsthat we always bring up. It's got
the DNA. It's in your DNA, like David lee Roth used to say
all the time, and van Halen'sin your DNA at this point because it's

(31:15):
been in every sporting event, it'severywhere. It's in your DNA. Well,
but you're in van Halen because you'relike this, it's one way or
the other. I don't I neverget the quote right. I says I'm
my shirt, and I still getit wrong every time, So I'm pissed
off. Well, listen, wetalked a lot. I mean, we've
already kind of mentioned a lot ofthe bands and everything, and I'm sure
some of the stuff that we've alreadymentioned is going to come up. But
a bunch of great suggestions. Thankyou guys. Keep emailing your your top

(31:38):
five suggestions. Some great stuff camethrough. Sylvester Stallone Top five, Denzel
Washington Top five. There was abunch of stuff that came in. I
thought the Sylvester Stallone was strong.Yeah, that's a Dally strong. But
then you know, Jesus Christ, you know, like, what are you
gonna take it off with Rocky andRambo? I think you'd like you did

(31:59):
a Star Wars, what did theSpace movies? You just kind of go
Rockies number five. You're gonna it'sgonna be Rockies and Rambos. It's almost
like top five that are not Rockyand Rambo. Maybe we'll do that.
There you go, that's it.I'm here for that new Expendables movie.
Too. That might get me intothe theater again. May, for the

(32:20):
second time in six years, Imay go to the movie theater to go
see The Dumb Expendables. I don'tcare. I don't mind being made fun
for it. If you guys wantto watch murder porn and watch all your
dumb shit knives with wives and howto kill your husband and get away with
it, let me watch my dumbthing. The Expendables Awesome. I love
it. I love them. Ilike the first two. I mean,

(32:43):
it's dumb. You gotta go intoit knowing, but I like them.
I like both of them. They'regoofy. Yeah. All right, so
we're gonna do our top five favoritegrunge songs, which I did not think
that was very easy to do,just because of the quantity out there.
But listen, next time you visitNew Orleans, make sure you book the
Pirate two. Have you taken thePirate Tour yet? Okay? And this
goes for some of the locals becausesometimes you know this, you gotta kind

(33:07):
of give them a nudge too.Okay. If you're living out in Kenner,
you're out there in shaw matt Brayou you gotta get nudged like,
you know what, that's just fortourists. No it's not. It's for
everybody, Okay, So get yourass down there. Take the Pirate tour.
It's a French quarter walking tour likeno other. Even if you live
there, I'm sure you don't knowthis shit. Okay, discover real pirate

(33:28):
history of New Orleans. Book yourPirates of the Quarter dot com. And
then on their website Pirates of theQuarter dot com. They got a great
store, They got all these greatnew T shirts. The Pirates are all
stocked up and ready to go,so they could definitely get your order out.
No uh pack, backpack pack,no back order slips. They got
your T shirts in stock and readyto go. So there's the shop page

(33:50):
on Pirates of the Quarter dot com. So get your kick ass T shirt
now everything Pirates of the Quarter dotcom. And then on the socials at
Pirates of the Quarter. So grunge. Before we get to the grunge,
I got something in the mail theother day and it wasn't this awesome shirt.
By the way, mail has beenpretty busy around here lately. At
my house. It's been pretty interesting. Check out mister popular over here.

(34:14):
Well, it's the first two piecesof things in the mail I've gotten in
a year, so it's it's it'sgonna go away. Uh. So I
gave a tour the Pirates of theQuarter tour six months ago. Guy took
the tour. I kind of knowhim through through different channels, right,
He's like, dude, thank youso much for the last time you gave
a tour. Jeez, I don'tknow you were that hurt hurting that no,

(34:34):
no, no, just just there. There's a guy a few months
ago that took a tour. Okay, okay, and he you know,
loved it and all that good stuffand must have been telling friends about the
tour and went back home to youknow, Virginia, wherever he's from.
And I get this in the mail. It's just done a card, you
know, like a five by sevenlittle card and says, hey, I
hope you're doing well. He said. My buddy's dad works for the Hollywood

(34:58):
Vampires. Hollywood Vampires is an allstar band. It's got Alice Cooper,
it's goot Joe Perry from Arrow Smith, it's got Johnny Depp, it's you
know, and they tour and theyplace tunes. I haven't seen him I
would like to actually see that band. I'm sure it would be entertaining Selasye
because Alice Cooper is still Alice FreakingCooper. Yeah. So he says that

(35:19):
my buddy's dad works for the HollywoodVampires and was with them in Europe on
tour. My buddy told Johnny Deppabout your pirate tour and got you this
pick from him, straight from JohnnyDepp's pocket to yours. So I got
a fucking Johnny Depp guitar pick fromthe Hollywood Vampires. Johnny Depp knows guitar

(35:43):
pick like a guitar pick. Yeah, sorry, no, not a hair
pick picture you jackass, that'd becool. No, No, a guitar
pick. So, like Johnny Deppknows about the Pirate tour, I thought
it was kind of cool. Man. That's pretty badass, that's pretty neat.
I got a Johnny deep Yeah, says Hollywood Vampires on it and then
JD initials for the guitar picks.Have any on any level at all celebrity

(36:12):
celebrities taking the Pirates of the Quartertour, None that anybody would know.
I mean it could have been someguy from like Survivor season twenty eight.
Yeah, I mean we get peoplelike, uh, my brother does tours
as well, on the on theon the tour, and he had like
some real famous YouTube kid one time, and he didn't know who he was,

(36:35):
but like people were stopping going,oh my god, I saw you
on YouTube. Like kids were stoppingand he's like, who the fuck is
this guy? He didn't know untilafterwards that he was like some YouTube kid
or something. I don't know whoit was. And then I had what
is the filming situation? While like, was that kid trying to get content
from No, he wasn't filming shit, okay, just hanging out taking the
tour. I had a guy ona tour one time. He was in

(36:59):
some some movie back in the eighties. And actually it was cool talking to
him afterwards. Is he is likea stuntman in Hollywood and he was an
actor for a few like super youknow Sea level movies back in the day.
I wish, right, but heuh he was. He teaches like

(37:19):
sword fighting in a lot of themovies that you see today. So it's
kind of cool that to talk tothat guy about like sword fighting and technique
and all the bullshit. But no, no, real nobody that I've gone,
Holy shit, I gotta give atwitter this guy, you know,
like not yet. Well, nowthat Johnny Depp knows, I'm sure the
Depster will be stopping by. Probablynot, but I thought that was kind

(37:40):
of neat. So yeah, giveme a favorite pull the old. Hey,
listen, bro, I paid togo see every one of your movies.
You're gonna have to pay for mytour, Like, don't let him
go it for free. Actually notto not to get back into the Foo
Fighters, but I'm gonna is thatlike Dave Girls got that. He says
it all the time in different interviews. He's like, I go into record

(38:00):
stores and people want to give methe records because I like to buy records.
I'm like, no, don't,don't charge the dude behind me.
I got millions of dollars. I'mgood, don't don't give it to me
for free. That kid behind me, he's working his ass off, he's
he's throwing papers, working in usin a kitchen somewhere. Get the kid
behind me the free records. Soit's like, yeah, you pay bits,
I'd provide a service that service causing. I mean, that was coming

(38:24):
very good. Thank you. Mthere you go. Top five favorite grunge
tunes, Rod, I kept mineright down the middle. I didn't get
off in the weeds at all atall. You didn't. I got hits
I went straight up down. I'mstraight at the middle, right right through
Hitsville. Known. No, Ididn't. I didn't pick L seven or

(38:45):
Sonic Youth or you know, Ididn't. I didn't get into that world
Green River. I nobody knows thatshit. I couldn't this. This was
awful. You thought this was easyto scope it into a top five?
No, no, but this isone that I didn't do anything. I
just went literally off the top ofmy head. I went bang bang bang
bang bang bang bang, And thentomorrow I would have five different songs.

(39:09):
But it's hard because we played thisshit all the time. Well that's true,
you know, So this makes itin one of those weird like I
kind of went where it was webeat the shit out of these songs in
the radio. But I can stilllisten to them, and I still get
excited when I hear them. Ikind of went on that criteria a little

(39:29):
bit. You got some weird shiton yours. I don't have weird shit,
No, because even though you playa lot of this stuff and you
play it over and over again.Yeah, I think this is gonna be
I think there'll be some bleed over. I really do when it comes to
like the Greatest, But again it'sour favorites, so we'll see. So

(39:52):
if you go and you just doa little bit of a deep dive on
grunge, they kind of do.They They'll start in like eighty five and
you'd mentioned Green River. Okay,so Green River there was some Pearl Jam
dudes in there, and there wassome mud Honey guys in there, and

(40:12):
they were kind of hanging out inthis band. Soundgarden really does go back
to the eighties. Soundgarden does goback to the eighties and the Melvin's.
I mean, those are the threereally really big ones. But when it
comes to you know, the BigFour, the Flannel four, and you
know, and I always like togive a little consideration to Stone Temple pilots

(40:35):
because I really feel like they're rightup there, but they weren't Seattle,
So you know, is it justdo you just call it the Big four?
Is it the Flannel four? Ifyou're how do you handle how do
you handle Stone Temple Pilots or isthere another band? Is there anyone else
that the Flannel four? Let's getthat out of the way. Nirvana,
Soundgarden, Alison Chain's Pearl Jam.Sure, who who's I'm We're gonna have

(41:00):
to do a six headed Mount Rushmorefor this. Well, I don't know
if it's Mount Rushmore, but Iwould definitely say you you have to put
Stone Temple Pilots in there, becausethey took all that shit, right,
you're copying Pearl Jam. Stone TemplePilots was in California ninety one recording that
first album. Yeah, so theyweren't copying Pearl Jam because but is there

(41:21):
anyone else? Is there anyone else? You could really start bleeding out a
little bit. You can go outand think I kind of went grunge grunge
sound, okay, yeah, youknow Bush literally a rip off of Nirvana,
got that same sound that dropped whatdo you call it, drop D,
drop E? I don't even knowguitar sound, you know, kind

(41:42):
of that angsty you don't know whatthe fuck they're singing about, that whole
grunge package, you know, andif somebody threw in an old and they're
not grunge. But if someone threwin an old Smashing Pumpkins too, and
I'd go, okay, okay,I got you. I get what you're
saying. It's again, but itgets lumped into it. Grunge just doesn't

(42:02):
mean Seattle, Okay, because grungeSilver Chair, right, the first album,
Holy shit, yeah, totally so, Yeah, it's not Seattle.
It's not it's not science, it'snot Bunsen burners and beakers and shit.
It really is kind of that timeframe, and it's a sound. It

(42:27):
literally is a sound. Now,the word I have a problem including in
grunge would be Jane's addiction. Iwouldn't put them in grunge. I think
they were pre grunge. I thoughtthey kind of did their own thing,
kind of like you wouldn't put redhot chili peppers in grunge at all,
you just wouldn't, you know.I mean, it just was a different

(42:50):
vibe. It was a different thing. And again it's not just Seattle.
But you had mentioned Elf seven verygrungy, right, Yeah, you could
put Veruca Salt in that sound. You can put the Eaters, the Breeders,
a couple of songs in that sound, you know, like it's a
case by case. Then it becomesa song issue, not a band issue.

(43:12):
You know, Smashing Pumpkins would eversay that. Billy Corgan's not gonna
go yeah, we're grunge band.Fuck No, he's never gonna say that.
But some of their songs, ifyou said, hey, Charon Rock
fits it on that list, I'dbe like, oh, yeah, all
right, I got you. Ifeel it. Yeah, you know that
says heavy guitars. It works,It totally works. Hmm, yeah Rocket.
Did we do top five Smashing Pumpkinsongs? I don't think we have.

(43:36):
Yeah, how is it we alwaysthink of the ship in the middle
of the podcast. Then we don'tknow. How the fuck have we not
done top five Smashing Pumpkin songs?I don't know. I don't, dude,
Seriously, look at me here withthe wrong guy. You get a
new partner on this thing, man, But so Big four obviously from Seattle.
I don't put anyone. There's youmentioned Stone Temple, Pilots, maybe

(43:59):
Bush, okay, maybe Bush. You got six outside of that, then
you start really you know, Ican I can say Bush in uh stp
just because they had the feeling tosound the whole thing going. Yeah,
you start wandering, use silver Chairone hit Wonder, you know, I
mean, yeah, I get it. They had other songs very grunge sounding
on the first album. Okay,I guess, but then you start wandering

(44:23):
and then it gets a little bitfuzzy, you know what I mean,
cloudy. So I'd say four, but then maybe six. Okay, go
ahead, dude, I'm excited aboutthis. Well, I mean this really,
I mean, great suggestion. Again, I mean you got to give
credit where credit is due. MikeWalker is the one. He sent this
in this morning. When I putit out there for top fives, it's

(44:46):
just like, duh, why haven'twe ever done this? Go ahead?
Top five Favorite grunge Songs. Numberfive from nineteen ninety four, sixteen Stones
is the album, very grunge soundingall the way through. By the way
Bush and machine Head, that guitarcomes out and it just starts smoking.

(45:07):
It's smoking out of the gate, just smokes out of the gate. Nobody
knows what the fuck they're singing about, and it's okay, you don't have
to. It's got that cool vibe. And the reason why Bush sounds grungy
is because Gavin Rossdale in the earlynineties was in the United States for a
while hanging out and what was onthe radio in the early nineties shit ton

(45:29):
of Nirvana. Yeah. The onlything they kind of took some shit early
on is he was a pretty boy, yep, and grunge wasn't about the
image at all, and he wentshirtless on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine
and it didn't represent I mean, grunge was also I mean, listen,

(45:51):
I don't want to man splain everythinghere, but it was also the fashion.
You know, it overtook, itovertook you know, pop culture,
and it overtook fashion. So ifyou think about the baggy layered clothing and
the ripped jeans and everything, andthen you got Gavin Rosdale with no shirt
on on Rolling Stone magazine, andyou know, grunge guys were like and

(46:17):
the Grudge guys didn't even want itto be called grunge. They didn't want
to you know, nobody wants tobe labeled. But that's the only other
thing that I would say about that. You're completely you're completely on point with
mentioning Bush and putting them on yourlist. But that was where they were
kind of a little bit of anoutlier totally. But you know what,
it's ninety four. Things are startingwater down because that's what happens. You

(46:37):
know, you hit your big bigasteroid, comes in, bang hits,
and then you get a couple oflittle comments come in doom. So this
is the watering down of everything. But definitely got that grunge sound. Number
four. Going back to nineteen ninetyfour again, Stone Temple Pilots Basiline ooh

(46:57):
spelled basioline and not vassline because theydon't want to get sued back to the
Stone Age by the lube company. Now, okay, I'll I'll hold my
comments. Fun fact. Fun fact, which is crazy you have to think
about. Okay, and we're StoneToe Pads had so much success with Purple,

(47:21):
a fucking great album. Okay, let's just not deny that great album.
What happened was Kurt Cobain had justdied, Okay, so Nirvana was
like, well, fuck, what'sgoing on with Nirvana? Pearl Jam's Bytology
album hadn't been released yet, okay, and you kind of had this little
bit of an open space in theradio world and Stone Temple Pilots and it's

(47:44):
pure luck dropped Purple at the perfecttime. Interstate Love Song was the number
one song for two weeks straight onthe Modern Rock charts. It got replaced
by Vassiline Stone. Temple Pilots tradedtheir number one one song for their next
song, which was a number onesong. Doesn't happened very off. That's

(48:04):
that's pretty powerful stuffs. The Beatlesdid shit like that back in the day.
Correct, Correct, Now, it'svesseling your typical. I mean there's
twenty other STP songs are are moregrunge like anything off the first album.
That's super grudge. This comes fromthe grunge era and veastling. It's just
got a cool sound. Yeah, you know, Okay again, a million

(48:29):
other STP songs could have been chosen, but and tomorrow it'll be a different
one. Number three. You knowwhat I'm reordering right now, Number three.
I could it's my list together, number three, which is weird because
this is on my on my listlast week. Screaming Trees Nearly Lost Your
nineteen ninety two Sweet Oblivion, thatsong and the movie singles that soundtrack nineteen

(48:53):
ninety two. I'm telling you.Gen x unge movement singles had a lot
to say and push all that forwardbecause that was the first time you get
to really see that thing. Yougot to see these flannel shirts. That
wasn't They weren't wearing the layers ofbaggy clothes and ship because they were being
cool. It's Seattle was fucking coldand they're poor. That's the look they

(49:20):
I mean, they took a lookat because Jeff Ammant the bass player project
like he's hit in the movie andstuff. They were like they were basing
what, oh Jesus Christ, MattDillon was gonna wear. They were looking
at their clothes. That's just whatthey wore. And then that's how they
dressed Matt Dillon and the other actorsand actresses. They dressed them as what

(49:44):
these guys were just wearing. Theydidn't have a wardrobe for those guys.
They just they did their thing.Yep. And that's you know what.
That's what I love about that isbecause it comes from an authentic place,
right going back to her earlier Nirvanaquestion, Yeah, authenticity ultimately is going
to win. You got the popsong coming out, Yeah, and that

(50:06):
goes back to your guy, theredheaded beard kid from West Virginia, Anthony
that's authentic. Yeah, authenticity,it's real. People still want real shit.
You know. The pop stuff isnice, it's fun, but it's
bubblegum. They want real, youknow what I mean. So anyway,
what did I say? Trees,Yeah, number number three, number two,

(50:31):
nineteen ninety early, Yeah, Templeof the Dog and Hunger Strikes song.
Not technically you're straight up grunge, but holy, look at me,
look at the players though. Imean, it's just you know, it's
an all star band. Before therewas any of these bands. When you

(50:51):
think about it, Sound Darton hadn'thad their success yet, really not mainstream.
In ninety Eddie Better the first songhe sang was this song. Then
he went and sang the Pearl Jam. Shit Pearl Jam and uh, Soundgarden
or Chris Cornell, We're just inthe same studio space at the time.
Eddie Vetter hadn't sang one song forPearl Jam yet. This was the first

(51:14):
thing he sang for Seattle. He'sjust flown in from California. That ship's
wild and he went in and laidit down. They reworked the song,
and Hunger Strike still still smokes tothis day. Smokes still great. Is
it better than say Hello to Heaven. Yeah. I love that. Yeah,

(51:34):
yeah, because you got because yougot the dueling singers and it's just
a little punch here. And whenthat guitar starts kicking in that dun dunna,
you're like, fuck, get outof the way. Yeah, get
out of the way. It's justbad and it's and it's peak. When
you look at the video, you'relike, oh, jeeze, but that
video is peak grunge. I mean, those guys are just wearing what they're
fucking wearing. The long John's underneath, the shorts, the combat boots,

(51:55):
the whole thing. Fun fact, they're That Hunger Strike video was filmed outdoors
by like a lake or something rightWell, in tribute to Andrew Wood from
Mother Love Bone. Right, thatwas Chris Cornell's bff and roommate who in
Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood diedfrom a heroin overdose. So they were

(52:16):
they were tight. So Chris Cornellwas making this tribute album for his buddy.
Well, they filmed that video andwhen you see him like a side
profile looking out over the water, they're looking towards where Andrew Wood used to
live in that video. That's sortof a tribute to him. I didn't
know that shit. Well, they'regonna have to go back and watch that

(52:36):
video. Very good. I mean, I got ship number one. This
song, you know, I've playeda trillion times on the radio. I've
also listened to it at home manytimes, and just the other day it
came on and I cranked it up. I'm like, God, damn it.
This song is just powerful. It'sjust power behind this thing, and

(52:58):
it's just fucking great. Nineteen ninetytwo Allison Chains would when you listen to
that thing, really listen to thatsong, really feel it. Man again
another song written about Andrew wood YEP, like that dude, fuck man.
I never got into Mother Love Bone. I don't know them really. I

(53:21):
mean I know a few songs now, but that did must have been a
fucking badass because everybody knew him.He was kind of like the leader of
the scene from what I've gathered atthe Yeah, he was very charismatic.
He was this great front man,had a good voice, obviously had his
vices. But that Mother Love Bonealbum, I mean, you know,
there's I can't remember, there's somethingthat's weird, out of order that like

(53:45):
something came out after and then theyredo it it and whatever. So there's
I think there's different versions of thesame album out there. But it's great,
I mean it is great. StoneGossard is the rhythm guitar player who
went on too Pearl Jam, andthen Jeff and the bass player he went
on to Well Mookie Blaylock and thenthey became Stone Temple Pilots. I'm sorry

(54:07):
that became Pearl Jam. That albumis great, I mean it is awesome.
Star Dog Champion is on that.Yeah, it's fucking great. You're
right. He everybody loved this guy. Everybody loved this guy and they credit
him. You're talking about Green Riverand you're talking about Soundgarden, who had

(54:29):
been around a while, and thinkabout like hew charismatic. You know,
when we talk about Chris Cornell, who the fuck is more charismatic than that
guy. Well, Andrew Wood apparently, and Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone,
those and the Melvin's were already around. They're the band that started getting

(54:49):
everybody sniffing around because this guy wasjust you had to come and see this
guy, you know, and hewas feather bow a guy and stuff,
because you know, he's coming offof this kind of Gland. I mean,
so he kind of was almost thislittle bit of a glam type of
glam slash seventies thing going on.Yeah, I mean that that album is

(55:12):
the album's phenomenal. It really is. And it wasn't afterwards that everybody kind
of like started digging this ship up. You know, I wasn't. I
heard of them. As a matterof fact, our buddy Dan Chambers r
I P. He had it early. He had that ship mother. He
really liked it, and I rememberhim playing it for us and stuff,
and it was great. Another songthat I didn't realize until a couple years

(55:37):
ago was about that is not hope. I don't ruin your list here U
candleboxes far behind. I thought Iloved you. I got to talk to
Chris Martin about that, and itwas Kevin Kevin Martin, that's right.
It was weird that all these yearsthat we didn't really kind of know that.
Yeah, nobody. I thought itwas a love song. And it

(55:59):
was even weird talking to him, like, dude, you know, did
you have these guys phone numbers? Why aren't you in on this? Are
you on the other side of town? I don't know how Seattle is broken
up, but like, where areyou guys? They were signed beforehand,
you know, think about the CandleBox then they were. They were kind
of already on the radio before Nirvanaand stuff. They were ninety three was

(56:20):
far behind, right, That wasour first single, y three, ninety
four something like that. No,no, because remember when when Vince got
to when Vince got to the Foxbefore we were changed to the Edge.
You have to go look that up. But remember we weren't playing Candlebox and
then he came in and brought allthe Candlebox stuff for some reason. Our
original, our first PD wasn't playingthat stuff. Ninety three yeah, released

(56:45):
in ninety three. Yeah. Soso they were beating around in that Seattle
scene, but they were just nobodyseemed to They didn't pop apparently until later,
well ninety three, much later though, Yeah, that's true. Interesting,
huh, I don't know whatever. You know, what's funny is the

(57:06):
presidents of the United States of America. That band, remember Lump and all
those goofy songs. Those guys wereLump Kiddies and cages. Yep. They
were a Seattle band, which ofcourse doesn't fit into any of this mount
rushmore shit. And I don't considerthem grunge, and they wouldn't consider them
grudge. I don't believe either. But they had a hard time. Like

(57:27):
ninety five, they came out andyou know, they had hits on the
alternative radio stations and people were playingthe shit out of those songs, and
they caught a lot of shit becausethey were from Seattle. So they well,
you guys, you guys aren't fromSeattle. And Chris Cornell actually went
out and kind of like said, nah, man dog doesn't just because they're
from Seattle doesn't mean they have tosound like sound gardens. They're just they're

(57:47):
cool guys listening to their songs. It's good shit. He was out defending
those guys back in the day.I didn't realize that they were kind of
like, whose line is it?Anyway? Remember that Drew Carey show and
then they had the comedians, Sohe would say, Okay, you're a
guy and you lost your pants andyou're in the middle of the airport,

(58:08):
go, you know, And theywould create these scenarios. Presidents of the
United States of America would play ina bar and people would just yell shit
out and they would make up songsand they would play them right there on
the spot. All those songs werelike just these things that were just that's
how they kind of created, that'show they kind of worked. Like that

(58:28):
Man Very fun Man Peaches coming aCan. They were put there by a
man in a factory downtown, Downtown. Fuck you Kitty, yao ya ya.
You don't know, but I rememberremember when they like the boss that

(58:51):
hand you the song, go heyman, this is the new President's song.
It's called k Kitty. And I'mlike, you put you play it
all right? Because I was doingnights, so I play all the new
ship, you know, usually first, so it's like, fucking Kitty.
I'm like the Basseline's fucking cool, the whole thing. And then it stops
and there's a guy me owing onthe air and I'm going, are you
trying to fucking kill me here?Man? It's a guy me owing in

(59:14):
a song, right, And mean, it worked, It worked when people
loved it, but people absolutely lovedit. And then you know, jeez,
when they did Lump. There's onlyso many bands that got the weird
Al Yankovic treatment. And when hedid Gump, that just you know,
that just sent them through the roof. Too, you know. I mean,
it's just it's just because it wasa huge deal. Man. When

(59:36):
Weird Al did one of your songs, man, it was it was a
big deal back then. Well youknew you'd made it. That was a
big song because he's not gonna dosomething fucking obscure shit, you know,
and that was what's great about it. Yeah, weird Al took a song
that was kind of funny and thatmade it funny. It's it's great,
that's pretty cool. So I hopefullyI didn't ruin your two of your songs
with Lump Kitty or far Befo becausethose are I like grungey. I don't

(01:00:00):
consider Candlebox a grunge band Seattle band, but the era, yeah, I
know, you couldn't fit. Iwould if you had a certain song,
I would be like, all right, fine, your list. I do
not have them on my list. And I think we only have one same

(01:00:21):
song m uh in at number five, Interstate Love Song. Yeah, because
it's the band, it's the era. Does that song Is it sound grunge?
You know? I your song Vasolineencapsulates maybe better, if that's a

(01:00:43):
word. But Interstate Love Song isjust fucking it and it's a flip of
a coin for me. It reallyis the flip of a coin for me.
Plush and Interstate Love Song, Ithink they're fucking both perfect. I
really, I think they're perfect songs. And there's not a lot of perfect
songs, and I think that bothof them are Interstate Love Song maybe just

(01:01:06):
a little bit better, maybe justa little bit better. Something about the
way that song just flows. There'ssomething like, like you say, a
perfect song, it's just everything aboutit flows. The lyrics just fit in
it so nicely, you know, and the guitar line is so great,
and something about that song. You'reright, I do like Interstate better than
Vassoline, but always felt Interstate feltjust poppy, you know, Yeah,
it didn't feel grunge. Now again, this is splitting hairs at this point,

(01:01:30):
but no, I'm all for youon that one. I love it,
like when you know when I sayperfect song, Uh, Peter Gabriel,
saulisbury Hill, it's a perfect song. Don't done the tempo and everything.
They just did every single thing right, you know, right? All
right? Number five Interstate number four, Come as you Are, Nirvana.

(01:01:50):
I still think it's a fucking amazingsong. I think. I still think
it's it's it's an amazing song.It's yeah, I guess it's my favorite
Nirvana song. It's my favorite Nirvanasong. It's got that real thick kind
of a wet I don't know howyou call it guitar, but it followed

(01:02:12):
up the biggest fucking song of alltimes. Sounded different, and it sounded
different. You know a lot oftimes you'll you'll follow up with a song
it's very similar. They could haveput out Breede, they could have put
out in Balloom, but no,they went, fuck you guys, here's
check this ship out. Here's whatelse we can do. Come as you
are? You know. It's uhwhen you go into Aberdeen, Washington,

(01:02:34):
the sign says come as you are, ye, you know, And then
you know they gotta look at thelyric where he says in the song,
you know and I don't have agun. Jeezus, you know we all
wish that to be true, sothat you know that lyric is not lost
on me either. I think it'sjust it also plays into that song for
me, it really does. That'smy number four by number three, nineteen

(01:02:59):
ninety four. Seeing that you wentwith dates whole Violet. I think that
song is just an absolute banger.Courtney Love is Courtney Love. Whether or
not she wrote that song or herfucking husband wrote it. I think her
husband wrote it, but she's thesongwriter on that album and Eric, the

(01:03:21):
guitar player. They wrote it.And you know she wrote a lot of
music with Billy Corgan. Well, that song's about Billy Corgan and the kind
of tumultuous relationship. And yeah,I remember asking her, I'm like,
you just sex with Billy Corgan. She's like, yeah, yeah, she
would. She answered that ship shewas awesome, is awesome. I just

(01:03:45):
hadn't talked to her in forever,But that song is just as important as
any other song from that era.I really think that just that song,
you know, whole not anywhere nearas big as Nirvana or the Flannel four
or anything, but that song justalways was amazing and it takes me back.

(01:04:05):
It is a full vibe, it'sa full mood, it's a full
fucking that's nineteen ninety four, Likeyou hear that, it's ninety four for
me. Yeah, No, ninetyfour, big year for music. Obviously.
That's my that's my number three,my number two screaming Cheery, screaming
Tree is nearly lost, you Poppycatter. Fuck. They wrote a great

(01:04:25):
song. I mean, they wrotea great song. They wrote a great
album. That album, Sweet Oblivion, is this amazing album. And I
already you know, bragged about thebook last week. But man, the
band is fascinating. Everything that youthink a band would be just fucking fighting

(01:04:46):
each other, I mean, fistfights and everything on stage and your lead
singers all it's a complete junkie andeverything. That band, it was the
most dysfunctional band. Well, Imean there there's so many most bands were
dysfunctional, you know, but theyreally I can't stress how interesting Mark Lanigan's

(01:05:09):
book is. Uh, it's it'sso great. So that's my number two
and my number one. And thiskind of I went with how you were
thinking with Vassoline. I use iton the air if I talk gen X,
if grunge is a thing, ifI need to talk about a year,

(01:05:30):
I hit fucking Sound Gardens outshined DoomDoom, and if you want to
talk grunge, if you want to, if you want to look up the
definition of grunge, it's outshined byby Sound Garden. Yeah, it's sludgy,
You're stuck in the mud. Arethey playing it too slow? Is
it de tuned like you had talkedabout. I think it's the perfect grunge

(01:05:56):
song. I think it. It'sabsolutely the number one. It's my favorite.
I think it's the number one grungesong, even though we all know
smells like teen Spirit is the numberone grunge song? Correct? Correct?
You know? Outshine? Yeah, that's a if someone said, what's grunge
sound like? You play the firsttwenty seconds of Outshine and people will go,
oh Jesus, that sounds crazy. For the same reason why I wanted

(01:06:19):
to put Alice in Chaine's Man inthe Box. That same sludge and I
know sludge of the thing in NewOrleans, but that same just a little
slower than you're comfortable with. Butfuck, you're right, they're right in
the pocket where they should be.First time you heard that stuff, Hey,
is this on the right speed? It was a little it just you

(01:06:44):
know it was it was grungy, you know, it was awesome. Man
in the Box was one that Ijust I hate myself for not getting in
the top five. I hate myself. I mean, you had would you
know? I mean another Pearl Jamsong, Pick pick another Sound Garden song.
It all works. You're not wrong. You know. That's why we

(01:07:06):
totally puss out and call these theselists, these are our favorites. You
could neither one of us put aPearl Jam song on, but I could
have picked ten, not not thealbum, but like eight different Pearl Jam
songs, you know what I mean. Going back to that outshine and that
that some of that early shit thatyou heard at first time, you're like,
this is not the wrong speed, and you even kind of brought it

(01:07:28):
up. You know. There's thatNew Orleans thing and musicians will talk about
it all the time where you're playingthe drums and you're kind of leaning back,
you're laying back in the beat.Okay, that's a musician term.
They're they're they're holding for that lastpossible site. They're not right in the
pocket. They're waiting. And that'swhat gives New Orleans music kind of this
weird swagger, right. Is thatwhat they're doing with a lot of the
grunge too, they're kind of holding, they're waiting. It feels like they're

(01:07:51):
just kind of, yeah, obviouslyhanging back. You're in the pocket,
right, you're in the pocket, and you know where just to to for
something to contrast, you know,to for contrast. Ac DC is straight
doom doom, doom dudd It's juststraight four four time, two four time.

(01:08:15):
It's just on the beat, onthe beat. And you know,
when you look about outshined and theother thing about Well Sound Garden is just
they don't have normal time signatures onany of their songs too, so they
always had really fucked up time signatures. Chris Cornell drummer, you know,
drummer first. He would tell youdrummer first, singer second, and you

(01:08:38):
know, they just he just neededto sing. They're like, fuck,
you're gonna you have to be oursinger, dude. So they went out
and got Matt Cameron, who's justthis phenomenal drummer. And but that's all
coming from Chris's head though, allof that weird off time shit, right
right. Yeah, I couldn't havethe ac DC drummer play that, you
know what I mean, Like,he doesn't couldn't do that. No,

(01:09:00):
No, probably not. It's funnybecause that grunge sound and it was really
kind of I mean, I know, wick grunge is obviously after being in
the business for two hundred years, but like it really stuck out. And
this is where it really stuck out. It was about a year ago and
I went to the Taylor Hawkins tributeconcert in La right, so everybody got
and they had everybody. You know, I'm watching Atlanta's Moore set, and

(01:09:23):
then you're watching the James Gang andJoe Walsh and you're watching you know,
some guys do some Black Sabbath andyou're watching just it was band after band
after bad the tribute show. Right. Then if you watch the one from
London, it's the same concept, right, the whole night's going along,
and it's like this is fucking awesome, right, band after band, all
these collaborations, and I'm like, this is great. Then all of a
sudden, out of the blue, they bust out like a Seattle tribute.

(01:09:46):
Kim Thayle from sound Garden, MattCameron, Dave Grohles playing some shit,
some other Seattle legends are out there, and they just start going. They
do like three songs. One wasa own Garden song. It might have
been Outshine, it was, andit was that. Three songs that they
chose were sludgy, heavy and I'mtelling you man, it just changed the

(01:10:10):
air and the room, like itchanged everything. And it's like you see,
and I felt that was like, holy fuck, all this music's out
there and it's all this amazing music. When they did those three songs,
it was a seattle, sludgy grungesound. Everything was different, and then
they went back to the normal shit, and it just brought the room right

(01:10:30):
back up. It's like it's likea dimmer switch went on the place and
turned it way down while those threesongs were playing, and then right back
up. And it's like that's whathappened when grunge hit. Everything on the
radio was going along nice, andthen these guys just went, nah,
we're gonna bring the lights down alittle bit. We're gonna make a little
bit slower, a little bit.It was darker, it was slower.
It had had a mobyness to it, you know, it had a you

(01:10:55):
know, let's not make a bigdeal about it feel to it, you
know, Okay, al right, okay, sure, all right, yeah.
But I just wanted to point thatout because it was like it really
I felt it in the room.It just was like, whoa shit,
what just happened? It was awesome, but you could see and feel it's
just a different thing altogether. It'sgot his own world going on there.
So great list. I mean, you could have picked fifty other songs and

(01:11:17):
I've been like, yeah, cool, Yeah, the Temple of the Dog
stuff. I thought maybe you wouldhave snuck in Mad Season another supergroup.
Man you talk about heavy, youknow, I thought maybe you would have
kind of snuck some of that inthere, but you hadn't mentioned i mean,
smashing Pumpkins in play Bush, SilverChair, and if you went seither

(01:11:39):
you know or not see there,I'm sorry. But if you went Varuka
Salt, any of that stuff, any of that stuff from that time period,
you could say, yeah, okayfrom song. Maybe necessarily a band,
but that song fit the mold atthe time. You know, a
lot of fuzzy guitars. Basically,at the end of the day, Allison
Chains was on the radio first correctand that they were on they were opening

(01:12:00):
up for Ozzy and stuff. Thatwas a hard rock band. That's what
it was. That was being classifiedas a hard rock band. There was
no nobody was calling anything grunge.Nobody was calling anything or geez. You
know, all these guys from Seattle. They were just a band on the
radio. Happened to be from there. They were a rock band, and
obviously the rest is history. Butthat first album, God Facelift. Yeah,

(01:12:28):
when you think about Men in theBox, I mean that that even
that sounded different than what was onthe radio at the time. It just
had that different sound it did youknow? It told me that would have
been That was the Alison Chain song. I know most people think that Dirt
is the masterpiece. You know,Dirt is you know, love it.
Dirt is like their master of Puppets. I don't know. I tend to

(01:12:53):
go back to that first album, and I think we did Alison Chain's top
five, and boy, I couldpick apart that whole first album. That's
when I found them correct and youjust you can't. I mean, it
was awesome, you and I openingup Dirt in college and playing it.
I remember that, But I hadalready known the band. So sometimes it's

(01:13:15):
that one that brought you to theparty. Sure that you just have that
extra love for And that's where Iam. That's where I'm at with that
Facelift album. See, I cameinto Dirt, I knew of Facelift and
I went back and listened. Ilove it, but dirt was my like,
holy shit, this. You know, if you're ever having too good
of a day and you're just likeGod, I love unicorns and rainbows,

(01:13:36):
put on dirt. They'll suck thewind out of the room. Holy shit.
Remember we did we did this awful. Well it was actually great radio
promotion, dude, it was fuckingawesome. We had a deal where we
got a bus load of listeners, right you won the contest on the radio,
and we got on a bus andwe fucking drove up to I believe

(01:13:59):
it was Nashville, Memphis to seethe Saints take on at the time,
the Tennessee Tennessee Titans. It waswell, it was Oilers at the time
because they had just moved from Houston, you know it was. They hadn't
changed the name yet. I don'tthink they did, and it was a
preseason game. So long story short, we went up to fucking Memphis with
a bunch of listeners and we drank. We had cases of beer bar on

(01:14:23):
the bus that I don't think wewere supposed to do, but you and
I were involved. So there wasjust ship. Everyone's getting hammered and we're
partying balls on the bus and likeyou know, you're going through different states
now, so that you know youlose the We lost the radio station,
so it's like, what do wefucking play? And we had a bunch
of video cassettes in a prize boxwe're gonna give away, and you're like

(01:14:43):
fucking running, digging around the bagand oh, Ellison Chains unplugged. We're
like, fuck, yeah, doit, bro, you put that thing
out. Because the bus had aTV and a video player. We're like,
this is perfect, man, dude. Within twenty minutes and they had
fucking MTV unplugged Elson Chains. Thewhole bus is knocked out. Everybody's fucking
sleep because as great as it is, it's pretty fucking one dimensional and pretty

(01:15:08):
mellow. And we'd been party ofballs like six am we had to be
at the bus and ship and bynoon everyone's like huh. I'm like,
yeah, we shouldn't push. Shoutout to Major Tom. Yes, fucking
Major Tom was a promotions guy inman, he was a party animal.

(01:15:30):
He was amazing to have that trip. Major Tom's like a legend. He
we stopped the should be a wholepodcast unto itself. We stopped at a
fucking Wendy's like halfway through. Everybody'sstarving, right, And we go in
and everyone's got their cheeseburgers and theirfries and their frosties and all this shit,
right, And then we get backon the bus and I look across

(01:15:51):
like I was on one side andacross the aisle, and then Major Tom's
sitting in the seed eating his fuckingcheeseburger and he's holding a picture of day
Thomas. He had ripped a pictureof Dave Thomas off the fucking wall of
a wendy S. And we carriedDave around the rest of the weekend.
YEP, just that kind of weekend. It was awesome, spectacular. So

(01:16:14):
I people want to put the kidsto sleep. Allison chains brou Hey,
you know The Ron Ryan Show presentsthe Boobs Rock Golf Tournament October eighteenth at
Wildcat Golf Club. Uh, ifyou wanted to, you can't. Foursomes

be involved. They're still looking fora whole sponsors. Auction items volunteers.
Yeah, you should do a Piratesof the quarter hole. You could go
out there and party and the piratesgive you any hole you want. Ten
interesting pirates of the quarter hole inthe tournament. Dude should be a playpants

(01:17:03):

So look, they are still lookingfor whole sponsors. So get your ass
together and get your get your getyour group together and get a whole sponsor.
Auction items volunteers. All the money'sgoing to the rod Ryan Showcare's Foundation

Buzz dot Calm. Yeah, golftournaments sold out. We still need some
more sponsors, need some more.Uh. You know, if you make
something, there's got to be somebodythat's listening to this podcast right now,
like the two people that are listening. Maybe you know, what do you

(01:17:51):
make? What? What like craftything do you do? What woodworking thing
that you could make? Because youknow what's hot right now? Anything astros.
Yeah, you can make me somekind of metal, some kind of
woody, kind of an astro ething, or you know Texans football right

(01:18:13):
now. I mean everyone's gonna behigh on football, you know, before
they start sucking. Let's get youknow, while everybody's excited. You know,
you're always excited at the beginning.Yeah, that's where we do really
well. You know when people likemake things and we auction those types of
things off. Some guy made usa boobs rock grill. Dude, well
full on grill. He bend's metal. He did the whole thing, he

(01:18:36):
cut it. You know, he'sI don't know how he did any of
it. I'm like, oh mygod, like a Habachi grill, but
it's a it was a boobs rockgrill. So crazy. He's like,
yeah, I made this for youguys, a custom It's a custom piece
like that. It's a one ofa kind things. And I'm like,
I'm not letting this go for cheap. Okay, I'm bidding on this.

(01:18:57):
You're gonna have to beat me towin this, aready. You already got
a Benny Hanna's at your house. You don't need a fucking custom grilled out.
Did you do the volcano? Lastepisode we talked about you've got you'r
a flattop guy now right. Yeah, you know, I'm cooking for a
bunch of people here. There's notime for farting around with a damn volcano.
I'm trying. I got I gotmy corn over here on this grill

(01:19:18):
and a low tee, and Imean it's running around and trying to time
everything out. It's like it's gota very thanksgiving vibe to it because you're
trying to time everything out, likefucking burning the dogs over here. So
yeah, there was no time toplay around with a volcano, but I
will I will get you. Gottaget a few under your belt, you
know, cook it for a whileon it, and then get that get

(01:19:39):
that courage up, get the confidence, and then get after a run.
I think you'd be all right.Any final thoughts run one sleep from when
we're recording here on Wednesday. Weare one sleep away from NFL football.
I'm here for it. I cannotwait. I'm so excited. What I

(01:19:59):
haven't pulled the trigger on yet isthe I think it's close to five hundred
dollars five honey for the NFL ticket. Really yeah, YouTube, Yeah,
it won't be happening won't be happening. I got a fifty dollars off right
here. I'm sitting on it rightnow. That's gonna really not condend in

(01:20:20):
that. That's cool, But I'msitting on a YouTube. Here we go
YouTube. NFL Sundays are back.Get ready of the NFL season is almost
here. Get fifty dollars off offerends September nineteenth. No refunds, So
I got a little bit of time. But I'm thinking it's over four hundred

(01:20:41):
dollars to get the NFL ticket. That's a lot of shit, dude.
Yeah, I see a lot ofmoney, right Yeah, I'm not gonna
be watching that much football. I'mgonna be interested this year, like we've
talked about it before. I'm interestedin obviously the Saints, the Bills.
I'm gonna keep my on Houston.I like your coach. I watched they
played the Saints, so I kindof got the watch. He seems like
he's got ship fired up. Howgood they're gonna be? I don't know
about that, but it's gonna befun to watch them. And I really

(01:21:03):
want to watch how Sean Payton doesout in Denver taking over that team,
and I want to obviously what AaronRodgers does in New York. So there's
a lot of unique storylines that Iwant to kind of see throughout the year.
It's gonna be fun to watch.Yeah, the first Monday Night game
September eleventh, Bills are in NewYork taking on Aaron Rodgers. You know,
you know, he wants to makea statement. You know, he

(01:21:24):
wants to get the you know, the biggest market in America behind him.
Obviously, don't want him to havea good game, but I can't wait,
Like that's just must sy TV.So that's it, man. I'm
just excited at and you know,Astros just on a terror right now.
Of course not when I go tothe game. For some reason, they

(01:21:45):
couldn't for some reason, they couldn'tbeat the Astros last weekend, but then
boom, they just fucking man handledthe Texas Rangers Dallas. So we're getting
into, you know, the endof the season, Astro sitting at number
one. I'm sure you've heard ofMattress Mac. I spent I spent four

(01:22:06):
thousand dollars on a mattress and Igot in early that if the Astros win,
I will get double my money back. So I think it comes out
to be like seven thousand. Idon't know seven thousand, six hundred dollars
that I'll get back if the Astroswin the World Series. That's how much

(01:22:26):
money I have coming to me.Hey got a question, Sure, I
haven't bought a mattress in a while. Fuck much does a mattress cost in
these days? Temper Pedick three tofour grand? Oh, you got you
got the you got the soft back. That's right, I forgot, you
got the thing. You got theNo you think you're sleeping on some sponge.

(01:22:46):
And I used my sister as anas as an example all the time.
She wanted a firmer mattress. Igot her a fucking temper Pedick that
is rock hard. It's still atemper pedic. But yeah, I mean
I kind of always thought those thingswere just gonna be really like spongy and
shit like that. Shit. Soyeah, you're gonna spend dude, sleep

(01:23:10):
is so important, it's a thirdof your life. Spend the money.
Get a good goddamn mattress. I'mnot trying to sell you one, but
gallery furniture. I know a guy, No, I got one. I
got it. I got a newone. I'm good. I just yeah,
I just fucking mattresses, dude. It's like, God, those are
the types of things I hate spendingmoney on refrigerators, mattresses, ovens.
Fuck it was four grand. Yeah, it was four grand for a queen.

(01:23:35):
I didn't get any kind of likea motorized bass or anything like that.
It was just the box spring andthe mattress. It was four grand.
But if the Astros win, Iget I get double. I got
double my money back because he's stillrolling his promotion. I mean, if
I talk about mattress, mac andgallery furniture, do you know what I'm
talking about. Yeah? Yeah.He puts about millions of dollars on the

(01:23:57):
Astros to win the World Series, and if he wins, he gives you.
That's where you get your money back. Right. He does it now
with the Kentucky Derby, and hedoes it with a national championship game.
He does. I mean he's ananimal. I mean he's awesome. He's
the biggest better. He places thelargest bets of anybody in the United States
of America, so much so thatsometimes he's got to go to different sports
books and he's got to break uphis bet because they can only take so

(01:24:19):
much. Yeah, what great? What a wait? Helps smart to figure
that out. He's an animatis,He's an absolute animal. You know.
If the Astros lose, well thenall these all of us went and bought
mattresses. If the Astros win,Boom, I'm like brow he claims.

(01:24:39):
You know, we won the WorldSeries last year. He said he gave
back seventy five million dollars. Buthow much did he win? A million
dollars he said. He says hehas it right down to how much,
how much people bought, that's whathe bets. He figures out the numbers
and all of that, and thenboom, I go, bro, you
must be and somethings aside, Mama'sletting you do this. You must be

(01:25:02):
buying her something nice. He's like, well, yeah, maybe there's a
little extra. Yeah, but that'sthat's pretty what the publicity gets is going
to sell more ship that's smart. That's really crazy. But really though,
it's but it's getting real, realfun. I mean, you know,
again, my whole thing was goingto be one sleep until football. But
baseball is really really fun. Rightnow? What do you got final thoughts?

(01:25:23):
Jason Ginty, do you know whata couter stick is, Rodney a
counter stick? No, okay,I'll tell you because I found out,
uh two weekends ago, a coupleof weekends ago. Did little you ever?
You ever go tu being on ariver like a float? Yes?
I have. Okay, Well we'revery big, very very big here in

(01:25:45):
Texas. That makes sense, right. Well, we've got a river north
here, north shore of a ofNew Orleans here. And what you do.
You go up and you're out. You're out in the woods. Bro
you are out with God's people, and it's awesome. Okay, I love
it. And you bring your booze, you bring your food, and you
go. You park your car,and you got your flippy floppies and you
got your bathing suit and they driveyou on a rickety ass van up river

(01:26:09):
four or five miles and they go, here's a bunch of inner tubes.
Go get one and see you later. And then you jump in the water
and the current will slowly take youfour or five hours later, boom back
where you started. Yep. They'reexperts at it here in Texas. Fucking
funnest shit. So you're out inthe woods and it's just it's just awesome
and it was so hot, right, so well we haven't had we hadn't

(01:26:31):
had rain and so long. Theriver's very low, and you know it's
it's natural. This is not somemad mad ship. You're out in the
ship, right, it's just ariver. And they're like, watch out
for all the fucking coodter sticks.Like the fuck are you talking about cooter
sticks? So some girl goes, yeah, cooterstick. You're floating down and
you're an intertube. You know you'refloating around. You got your legs up

(01:26:51):
in the air. You know yourasses in that hole. You go down
and you're not paying attention, thatstick will hit You're right in the freaking
crotch. I'm like, uh oh, cooter I got you cooter sticks.
I learned what is the stick?Like, it's just tree branches. Okay,
So trees fall down and then you'refloating down the river and also on
the foot and you're like, oh, so you gotta watch out for the

(01:27:15):
cooter sticks. This was a firmthat was being thrown around quite a bit.
It has nothing to do with themechanic from the dukes of hazard.
Has everything to do with the stickin a river that you don't see and
it jams. You're right in yourpea hole. I love it. Yeah,
couter stick, dude, I loveit. I didn't know about this.
This is why you gotta get outin the world. You learn things.

(01:27:35):
You float the river. When didyou float? A couple of weeks
ago? And it was awesome? That's awesome. The boga Chitta is a
stream north shore dumps into Lake ponchand train awesome. Had a blast.
It's the dumbest fun you can have. It's so fucking cool. That's awesome
nature. You know what I didn'tlike. I kept thinking snakes and alligators.

(01:27:58):
I couldn't get over that part.It was in my head the whole
time. I couldn't get past it. And it'saw Neither is the water cold?
Uh? It was not cold? What was it? The water cold?
Not really it was. It wasn'tIt was a cold, yes,
because it's it was one hundred andsix that day or something shit, So
it felt cold, but it wasn'tsuper cold. You just jump jumped right
in. It felt great, youknow, It's not like a coming out

(01:28:21):
of a spring. Yeah. Sopeople float the Guadalupe River and the Frio
River. Obviously Frio it's cold.It's they're cold. I mean they're they
are cold. Yeah, But samething water level and you know what these
guys know. They know how muchwater is coming through. There's an actual

(01:28:45):
number used for the amount and thespeed of the water. They know.
Like people that go all the time, they're like, yeah, the Guadalupe's
running at I'm not even gonna tryto throw a number out there because I
have no idea, but they like, they'll say it's running at this,
and they'll know how deep it is, how fast it's moving. So they'll
they'll you'll know how long your rideis. Oh shit, that's why.

(01:29:09):
Yeah, it's crazy. They knowthat shit meandering. I mean, this
is a meandering, slow cruise. There's plenty in places to pull off,
draank, hang out, skip rocks, you know the whole thing. So
yeah, watch out for your coutersticks rod next time you're floating down the
river. You catch one in thebung, you're gonna know it. You're
gonna know it. That's a safetyissue. The two YouTube packages for the

(01:29:31):
