Knock us down, We're gonna getup, and on the way up,
we're gonna buy a kneecap. Allbefore long, where there going to be
the last one standing. This iswhat the greatest thing about spers. Did
you plays who win the game? That's why we shook the damn field.
If you want to crown them, they crown their heads. But they are
who we thought they were. Welcometo the same old podcast. I'm Ron
(00:26):
Tamas with IHIRED Sports Network along withDave Burquette of the Detroit Free Press.
And you know, I got abone to pick with you, okay,
because I walk in and she goesright into it. What do we got
because you know, I kind oflike talk about myself. Tell stories.
Yeah, let the people know what'shappening in my life past, you know.
(00:51):
And you you're a closed book. You don't let the people in.
You don't tell stories about funny storiesabout your career or what happens in the
past or present. You're just youknow, you just wait, wait,
wait, wait wait. I meanyou talk about your daughter and my son,
my daughter going to homecoming. Imean there's there's nots that we've gotten
(01:11):
into here, but not about you. Personally like, tell us something juicy,
tell us something good juicy. Idon't know that. I am like,
you know, are you just vanilla? What's your favorite color? What's
my favorite color? You know? Those are questions that like my son asks
me sometimes or my daughter my favoriteI don't even know you kids? Do
(01:32):
I have a favorite color? Imean, I say, and what,
like my favorite color is? Youdon't have a favorite color. My favorite
color is purple too? Really?Yeah, okay, what's your favorite color?
You're a Vikings fan? No,I just like the not everything is
sports, dave personal. I don'treally have a favorite color. Yeah.
(01:53):
I was out of town this weekend. I was up north for a wedding
and I lost my bra. Icouldn't I find it. I couldn't find
it, and I'm like, it'smy travel bra. It's when I you
know what I mean, It's likeyou have a certain bra that's comfortable and
when when you're driving a long wayblah blah blah, and I'm like,
(02:13):
I don't know where it went. And it fell behind the desk and I
had to call maintenance to have himcome get my bra. Behind the desk.
You can't move the desk I couldn't. It was too heavy. I
thought it was all attached. Eventhough when he came up and I said,
I said to the front desk,I go, I need a long
stick. My bra fell behind me. I say, if I had a
(02:35):
long stick, I wonder. Iwonder what they were thinking of the front
desk. And she said her brafell off and she needed and then she
goes, well, I don't havethem, but well i'll call maintenance.
I'm like, okay. So Igo back to my room and Knox and
he has tools with him, likehe has like a bungee cord and this
and that, and I'm like, well, my bra fell behind there and
(02:57):
I didn't care. I wanted mybra, and he goes, oh,
okay, I think I can andthen he pulled the desk. I'm like,
oh my god, I could havedone that. I didn't realize.
And he's the one that grabbed mybroad handed it to me. Josh,
thank you. Yeah, it's thatdirty. I still want raw Dave.
Have you ever lost to your brobefore? No? I have. I
only have one that I travel with. Have you ever lost your underpans?
(03:20):
No? I don't know. Ihow do you do that? No?
I haven't. Don't look my traveling. My traveling, and you know more
about me, I think than yourealize because my my travel is because to
fit the narrative about me being prettyboring in Vanilla, I usually take the
last flight in like now that I'mI have kids, like my Saturdays or
Sundays, right, but you don'thave any funny story that happened in a
(03:44):
locker room or with an athlete,or even with friends or just running something.
You know what I did this weekend? My one weekend off right.
Lions play on Thursdays, so I'vegot the whole weekend. Because people want
to know. They asked me,what's what's buckets like? And I'm like,
I don't know. Out the buckets, I don't know. Saturday tackle
football game for my son, birthdayparty for my niece, come home,
(04:08):
watch all right exactly. Sunday likefootball game for my son, two basketball
games for my daughter, baseball practicefor my son, come home, watch
a little bit football, go playsome hoops that night. That's my weekend.
Okay. If you don't know whathappened at basketball, and I do
not want to know because that'll justput me right to sleep. But because
you had, I'll think of agreat story and bring it next week.
(04:29):
Okay, good, and you thinkabout assignment. Yeah, and I wanted
in writing and sign okay, Sobecause you had the weekend off. Lions
played last Thursday, which I haveto say when they play on Thursday,
seems so long ago that they kickthe shit out of the Packers and say
that on the podcast. Yeah we'refive kick the crap. Oh okay,
kick beep, kick the crap outof the Packers. What was the score?
(04:55):
What was the thirty three and one? And sit atop the NFC North
their defense another five sacks, whichI'll tell you every time they do it.
I mean, their defense is reallyimpressing me this year. And I
told you that's one thing that theywanted obviously to improve because last year was
gross. Right, so, butthey really have improved. I'm impressed.
(05:18):
I mean, if I'm in tell, I can tell because he talks about
this a couple of weeks ago,and you were giving me shit. Since
we can say that, can wesay that word too, Yeah, since
you were giving me shit about whatI wrote that this Lion's defense might be
as good or better than the twentyfourteen one and now here we are four
games into the season and they leadthe NFL and run defense, I mean
(05:38):
their top ten in most categories.Yeah, fourth obviously sacks they're getting after
the quarterback, they're stopping the run. Now, Look, they haven't played
any good quarterbacks after Patrick Mahomes, since Patrick Mahomes, right, I mean,
Gino was fine, but the lasttwo games, Desmond Ridder wasn't very
good well, and they were thinkingat the of benching him Desmond Ridder because
he didn't do very well last weekeither. But anyway, right, so
(06:00):
you know, I don't know, you know there are more challenges ahead,
even though the schedule isn't incredibly difficult. Justin Herbert in a few weeks.
The Raiders have some better weapons inthe passing game, even though you are
kind of a mediocre team, rightCowboys at the end of the season,
Kirk Cousins, justin Jefferson. Sothere are there are many, maybe some
better gauges of how good this defenseis coming up, But man enjoy it
while it's here, because they area really good team right now. When
(06:23):
it starts with that defense, theyshut down the run on the other team.
They're not giving up many big playsthey're getting after the quarterback, and
that's been the recipe for success sofar. You're listening to the same old
podcast. I'm Ronda Moss with iHeartSports Network along with Da Briquette of the
Detroit Free Press. One thing wecould question, not really, but not
(06:44):
as Jared Goff and his three straightinterception, you know, three straight games
with a pick. But Dave,oh, you've got another bone to pick,
I can tell Dave. Yeah,well, let's just listen. I
feel like when we were asking thestreak a couple of weeks ago, so
maybe it can no good. Yeah, no, I don't know. You
(07:05):
How do you just make sure youtake a better curve? Yeah, I
wouldn't blame you, guys. It'sgotta be smarts. If three two of
them are bad throws, one wasa bad decision, try to, you
know, limit the decision ones. You know, those are the ones that
really sting. But yeah, Ijust got to take care of the ball
better and really limit that something onfolks. Okay, okay, First of
all, if you would have saidyes, I blame you because you shouldn't
(07:26):
have asked the question. You don'task when I have a streak. You
don't question it, but then yougo and come back with a reverse you
know, there's no such thing isthe reverse jinks? And that my favorite
thing. He goes, No,I don't blame well, thanks Jared for
not blaming us. You're the onethat threw the picks, not us.
No, but look, there isa you know, there's an art,
(07:47):
there's a kuth to asking questions.Sometimes, right, you don't jump right
in on someone and say, bro, three interceptions. It's pretty often I
do. Okay, I know, right, but I know you know,
it's funny that you say that becauseyou I mean, there's a lot of
people that just ease into I can'tdo it. I don't have the time
I can tell, but you youdid. But there's no such thing as
(08:07):
a reverse jinx. It's already outthere. He already jinked. He can't
take it back. Bobby Lane didn'ttry to reverse jinks. Well it did
work, did it? So maybemaybe it's but I'm sorry, No,
I don't blame you. Yeah,I wouldn't blame you. Guys. I'm
sorry, but that's really funny. No, I don't blame you. Well,
(08:30):
thanks, no, But sometimes youjust have light moments with people,
right, And I wish that's yeah, right, But I wish you would
have said yes. I do blameyou having a little fun with saying,
hey man, we asked you aboutthis when you were at three hundred and
fifty nine. I think it wasbefore the before the game, the Seahawks
game, and now we're asking aboutit again because it's been three straight weeks.
And look, regardless of the interceptions, I mean, he's playing pretty
good football right now, right. Is that a concern though? I mean
(08:54):
the three punks and three things.I mean, you know, he's Jared
Golf right now, is career highcompletion percentage, The offense is moving efficiently,
he's doing a pretty good job withI mean, you know, hitting
big plays. The Lions right noware I believe they're top five in yards
for pass play. And I heardsome stat I didn't see this, but
(09:15):
where he is leads the NFL andcompletion percentage on those long passes, passes
over twenty yards, So you know, he's doing all the things that you
need to do to have an explosiveoffense and to win football games. So
yes, he needs to take bettercare of the football. But no,
I don't think it's a huge concernat this point. I think we all
know the recent turnover woes that hehad, I mean in his last season
(09:39):
and a half with LA and inthe start here in Detroit. But you
know, this thing is going sowell right now. You know, I
wouldn't be too concerned about that. And look, two of those picks are
you know, he admitted it justterrible throws and the one against green Bay
that was a bad decision. Youcan't throw off your back foot into traffic
like he did. So as longas he doesn't have more like that,
(10:00):
I wouldn't be too concerned. Didyou get beer thrown on you in Green
Bay? No? Oh, thankgod, because yeah that was rude.
Don't do that, don't packer fans. I thought they had more class than
that. Yeah, I mean hesaid he lost his lambeau leap Virgindy.
That's what That's what I told you. He jumped into the crowd his first
(10:20):
touchdown in Green Bay and they pouredsome beer on him. So well,
as long as he didn't care, then good. But yeah, he said
he didn't even know. He saidhe felt a little wet, but even
I mean he was you know, how would he know, but yeah,
it was kind of rude. Okay, So now moving forward they played his
leap was better than Jared Goff's though, right, my leap would be better
(10:41):
than Jared Goff's. Uh So,now Packers behind. Looking forward to the
Panthers on Sunday. They're zero tofour, which I had owned three.
I swear to god, I thinkI lost a game somewhere. But anyway,
Bryce Young looking for his first win. He's not very very good.
Yeah, Buddy's young? Could thisbe? You know what they do?
(11:03):
You believe in a trap game?Is that something in football or all sports
like a trap game? Like You'relooking at this and it's like they're zero
and four, they got nothing tolose, We're riding high, we were
you know, chest out, shouldersback, we're three and one, we're
this or that, and then yeah, you know, do you believe in
(11:24):
that? I do? But Idon't know if this is a trap game,
because I think the other team hasto be good above average for it
to be a trap game, andthe Panthers are like the worst team in
the NFL, one of the twoworst teams. So I just don't know
that they have much of a shotof coming into Ford Field to win.
But absolutely there's I mean it's humannature to overlook your opponents sometimes and think,
(11:48):
hey, we got this in thebag. Right, things are going
really well for you, you're winninggames, you're at home, you know,
there's there's so much going for you, and maybe you just, you
know, you overlook that. Ithink it happened to the line at the
end of the season last year againstCarolina because that Panthers team they weren't great.
They ran rough shot three hundred andtwenty yards rushing. That was amazing.
(12:09):
Again, well, that defense wasgot off the last year. So
that Panthers team did two things well, they ran the ball and they played
pretty good defense. I mean,Brian Burns, they had some good players
on defense. This Panthers team doesn'tdo anything real well on offense. So
I just don't know that they're thatthis team is capable of upsetting a good
lines team. So that's that's myonly quibble with this being a trap game,
right, and the Panthers have onefour or five against the Lions.
(12:33):
But I think this year it's alittle different. But you know, you
don't know, I mean, thePanthers come in here, Bryce Young doesn't
look very good. I mean, you look at the Rocky quarterbacks, who
looks better exactly? I mean that's, you know, amazing. Anthony Richardson
even Yeah, he even looks better. But when you look at this game,
you're getting some people back. JamisonWilliams, I must have been out
(12:56):
of town when they reduced to suspensionfrom six to four games, right,
So last Friday happened the day afterthat, Oh, I see, I
was out of town. I wasn'tpaying attention. So that's when I lost
my bra. So so they reducedthe NFL now is they came up with
guidelines when it comes to gambling andhopefully it won't ever happen again. But
(13:18):
his suspension was reduced, so hewill play on Sunday. And Dan said
they're going to ease him in,So what what are you thinking? Yeah,
and just to be clear, youknow, the Lions have not said
he one will play. Everyone expectshim to play. He said he's going
to play. He's he's on theCommissioner's exempt list right now. So the
Lions do have a They could waittill one week to activate him if they
(13:41):
want to. You have one weekto do that. But I expect Jamison
to be on the field. Youknow, he's probably going to be the
number four receiver right out of thegate. That means he's taken a few
snaps from Marvin Jones, who's seenhis playing time dwindle a little bit.
He's certainly not going to surpass themon Ross Saint Brown on the depth chart.
You know, he's not going tobe a more effective player than Josh
Reynolds off the bat. You know, Sam Laported, Jamiir Gibbs, those
(14:03):
guys are still ahead of him,Polief Rayman. Even in the you know,
the passing game, you know achart, I guess of who Jared
Goff is throwing the ball to.But the one thing that Jamison Williams has
and does is he can run fast. That speed can be a game changer,
and not always in terms of himcatching past doesn't have the ball in
(14:24):
his hand when he's running that fast. That is an issue his route running.
Yeah, and but you know thething that Antoine Randelel said this on
Tuesday, Jared Goff talked about thisa little bit, just having that element,
the respect that the defense has togive to a wide receiver who can
take the top off. You knowthat maybe it makes the safety play a
(14:46):
step or two back right, itmakes those linebackers, you know, some
of the drops that they take, they're quicker, you know, maybe taking
those drops and that opens things upacross the middle. And maybe it's for
Jamison on a slant, or maybeit's for am and Ross Saint Brown to
do more work inside, or JamiirGibbs or whatever the case is. I
think the Lions are hoping that William'spresence allows the rest of their offense to
flourish as much as it does leadto big plays from Jamison himself. You're
(15:11):
listening to the same old podcast.I'm Ronda Moss with iHeart Sports Network along
with Dabracatt from the Detroit Free Press. The one thing Jamison said yesterday that
he kind of work had two aday's yeah, because he wasn't allowed to
practice with the team and he hasa jugs machine at his house, which
when he said that, I almostfreak because you know me and the drugs
machine. But he story you tolda story on it, yeah, one
(15:35):
that he uh practiced like one hundredcatches, one hundred catches a day.
He said, you do the mathon that, so, you know,
thirty days or whatever it was,he caught three thousand balls twice a day.
So Jamison said he did his owntwo a day workouts when he was
gone, said he worked out inthe morning, did some field drills in
the afternoon, catching stuff. Andhe said he caught one hundred passes off
(15:58):
the drugs machine every day. Soand I know a lot of Lions fans
were like, what one hundred passes? I mean, you're suspended. You
got twenty four hours in a day, Like I'm in Rock catches two hundred
and two a day after he's donepracticing, So what's one hundred a day?
But now listen, is that fiftyin the morning and fifty in the
afternoon, So that's not a bigdeal. Well yeah, I mean I
get that, but let's give theguy credit for catching passes at least,
(16:22):
right, you know, I meanthis is something that a lot of people
are like, oh, get hima jugs machine. He needs to work
on his hands, he needs tobe on the Amen rock plan. Well
he's doing it, okay, andmaybe a hundred is different than two hundred,
but he's at least working on hishands, so we know he's putting
some effort in, so I don'tI wouldn't quibble over the number so much.
It's good to hear, you knowwhat he said. He did,
you know, during his time off. Let's see how it translates to the
(16:45):
field. Well, let's hope helearned a lesson and he won't be gambling
in the facility. I feel prettyconfident that he won't. I hope.
You know, when you didn't soundsure, actually no, when you lose
four games and all that, right, you're a young guy like and I
think, you know, there's alot of people that maybe didn't understand the
(17:08):
totality of the NFL rules on gambling, and oh they it's right there,
and no doubt, I'm not excusingit, but I think there are people
who didn't quite understand that you can'tplace a blackjack bet from the casino app
on your phone, and that's somethingyou're not allowed to do. You can't
bet it all at work. Andso look, if he that's from his
(17:30):
house, if he bets in LasVegas, you know that's fine. Just
don't bet on football. Just aslong as you're not betting, whether you're
you know, you can't even betwhen you're on the road. I mean,
I bet on the team hotel, the team busting, right, anything
that has to do with in theseason. You can't do team events like
(17:51):
anything that constantly. You can't atwork. And I do think, you
know, Jamison had said, atleast let's say, let's put it like
that. Jamison had said he didtotally understand the rules, and I think
he gets them now, even thoughwhen I asked him about the you know,
the change in the policy yesterday,he said, Oh, I don't
really pay attention to that stuff. You're kind of like, shouldn't you hello,
(18:12):
and you know what you should, but he was talking about he was
talking about the amount of game right, But you know what you should have
done. You should have went andpulled off the rules and handed it to
him from the back wall in thelocker room, from the thing that's posted
in the bathroom and then that's rightnext to his locker, you know,
laminated. No, it is forthose I mean, no one out there
(18:33):
would know this. But legitimately wewalk into the bathroom in the media wing
of the Allen Park facility and thegambling rules are posted inside the bed.
Oh really, I thought you werejust kidding. No, it's all over
right there. Really, Oh mygod, black and white, big bold
letter makes it even more well, you just don't pay attention. But anyway,
(18:56):
so Jamison Williams should be back alsoa Manuel well maybe that will see
a sighting of him, right,Uh, definitely the issue that he had
in the off season, they hadto you know, clean up. So
finally he'll get to play. Dandid say, Dan Campbell did say he
will play on Sunday. Yeah, and that's the expectation. I mean,
(19:19):
look, Emmanuel Moseley is going tobe a starting cornerback before long, opposite
Cam Sutton. He's going to takeJerry Jacobs spot. Although Jerry Jacobs played
pretty well last Yeah. Yeah, look, he's you know, he's still
doing some good things. You know, he had that rough game against DK
Metcalf. You know, he ownedup to his mistakes. We talked about
him a little bit last week. You know, he obviously has had some
(19:41):
penalties, but his physical play andhe's a guy who's he's been a factor
in the run game, Jerry Jacobsays, to the run defense. So
he's not going to fall completely outof this rotation. But you know,
the Lion signed Emmanuel Moseley. Theysaid as much in the spring to be
a starter. And so when EmmanuelMoseley is fully back healthy, able to
play seventy reps a game, he'sgoing to be the starter. And that's
(20:03):
not quite this week yet. Youknow, the guys he's practiced for a
week essentially two weeks. Really, they didn't do anything though last week,
so you know, it just wouldn'tbe right to give him a full compliment
of games rep. Well, youhave to ease failure, ease him back
in. He's coming off what anACL and then a knee cleanup in the
offseason. He didn't go through trainingcamp one hundred percent. He lost I
(20:29):
mean hero for his ACL last October, had a knee clean up as you
said this summer, and then hepulled his hamstring when he came back the
first week of camp, so orthe first week of the regular season in
practice. So you know, hejust hasn't been on the field. For
the sake of having him for thefinal you know, thirteen games plus playoffs,
you want to ease him into therotation. Well, you know what
(20:52):
else, I was impressed with DavidMontgomery only because he went out with a
thigh bruise against Atlanta Brus against lYeah, okay, he didn't play against
it. And then and then whathe did against the Packers, I'm like
what they brus thirty two carries?Like what? Look? You know we
talked about the Lions run defense asexplosive as they've been on offense, and
(21:18):
you know, it's been a littlehit and miss. I mean it wasn't
quite there against Kansas City, butthey've been running the ball with authority.
I mean the way David Montgomery Ithink he had one hundred and was one
hundred and twenty two years und andone and twenty one yards and three touchdowns.
Fifteen of them were after contact lestright, So when you do something
like that, you know the Idon't know, it's you know, guys
talk about it like, you know, this is our our man card,
(21:40):
right, Like we want to youknow, flex our dominance against you and
running the football as a way todo that. And you know, David
runs with such power that I dothink the Lions feel that way that when
he's running the ball and you continueto feed him the ball, we can
keep steamrolling you and just get strongeras the game goes on. Yeah.
I think I was surprised only becausea thigh bruise. I thought, you
(22:02):
know, to me, I geta bruise and I can't walk, So
you know, I'm just saying Ithat was quite impressive. But my favorite
thing is after the game the nextday, is what Dan Campbell had to
say about his team. We're stillon the hunt. But if you're hot,
nush, you don't have to lookfar. We're gonna be on your
front porch when you open the door. I don't know what that means.
(22:25):
I love it. I do too. Come get us. We're waiting for
the fight. We're ready, likeyou're looking for us. Guess what?
Okay, I know, but who'sthat? I'm just curious, like like
it's like he's looking for a fight, like right, like he is.
We're not the hunted, we're thehunty, Like we're still hunting you like
you may be hunting us, right, we may have this target on our
(22:48):
back, but guess what we're waitingthere? Can I hear that again?
We're still on the hunt, butif you're hot, nush, you don't
have to look far. We're gonnabe on your front porch when you open
the door. Okay, he wastalking about we still want want to be
Look, we still have to keepthe mentality that we're hunting others. And
it may be different because we're threeand one now and you know, we've
got this target on our back. But if you're if you're I think so,
(23:11):
if you're coming for us, guesswhat we're We're still coming for you.
And so I think that's I thinkthat speaks to a lot of people
because it goes to that, youknow, that machismo of the NFL,
that way you know we are weare we are the baddest, baddest man
here, and we're going to beatyour ass and we're gonna be waiting for
you. You're coming for us,Well, guess what we're coming for you.
That's that's what Dan Campbell is.Well, yeah, but I'm curious,
(23:34):
So we switch out our intro. No no, no, no.
I love thecas it's great intro.Yeah, we're still on the hunt,
but we're hunting for you and we'regoing to be on your doorstep. Maybe
maybe season two of the podcast.Right, But when he said it,
I thought it was great. Andthen I'm listening now and I'm like,
I don't get it like, who'shunting for you? So you you really
(23:57):
don't think people are out to getthe Lions right now? Three and one?
Favorite, you know, win aplayoff game? Maybe next year.
I feel like I'm sorry that youhaven't done anything. You're three and one,
which is great, good for you, mazl tough, But who's hunting
for you? I mean, whatbecause you sit atop the NFC North Well
(24:18):
okay that though other than Travis, really you're the talk, not just the
time, You're the talk of thetown. Where's the Lions are the talk
of the town. I really feellike the Lions have had so much hype
under them and so much uh pressureand talking and just everything, all the
(24:41):
hypeness. I think that teams arelooking at us kind of threatened. Really
they're looking at you. Well,I mean obviously considering when was the last
time the Lions were flexed? RightWeek eighteen last year? Well? Right,
but that's because it was whether theywent to the postseason. But then
(25:03):
the Seahawks won, so it reallydidn't matter. But look, the Lions
are you go back hard knocks?I mean they were like they were this
hard knock season. No one caredabout last year people did. They liked
the Lions. They like seeing DanCampbell and the success that they had last
year. The you know, asgood as they are right now, as
good as people think they are, there are people that are hunting, like,
(25:25):
look, they're not San Francisco, right they're not Philadelphia. That's the
defending NFC champs. But after that, I mean maybe Dallas, but after
that, there's no other team inthe NFC that's better than the Lions right
now. And if you look atthe schedule, they're going to be favored
in every single game until Dallas probably, So every team that they are playing
is going to say, look, this is a good team. We got
(25:45):
to go and we gotta get it. We got to take it to them,
and Dan saying, huh uh,we're still taking it to you.
So they're going to be on yourfront porch waiting for you. Well,
that's kid, I'm going to haveto travel far right on your front porch
because they're going to be hunting foryou. They're not speak to you.
A great quote. That's a greatquote. Well when I saw it,
(26:07):
I really liked it, and thenI heard it was listening to it now
and I'm like, I don't getit. But then you know, there's
a lot of things I don't get. Things need to be explained to me,
like three or four times, andthen a light bulb goes off that
I'm like, oh, I getit now, you get it now,
I get it now. Kind ofnot really, but I understand. I
(26:32):
mean, I the reason why Idon't get it is because I don't know.
I mean, yes, they areplaying well, there's three and one
and everything, but you haven't doneanything. So that's where my mind is
at well, and that is whyDan wants them to stay hunting, right,
That's what he's saying. Look,we haven't done anything, right,
(26:52):
We're still coming for you, You'recoming for us. We're still coming for
you because we still have something toprove too. So I think that's part
of it, right, because hewants he doesn't want them to get all
like complacent. Don't and don't listen, don't read the clippings, stay off
the train, stay focused what's infront of you. As he said,
maybe that happened week two with thatloss to Seattle, right, so don't
(27:15):
let it happen to an inferior teamin Carolina. Don't let it happen next
week against another inferior team in Tampa. That's that's part of his message,
without a doubt, Right, Butdo you think they'll be favored in Tampa
if the Bucks win this week?Easily? I don't think the Bucks are
that good. I mean, look, they're like Atlanta, right, A
lot of people were like, oh, Atlanta's good. You know Atlanta,
(27:37):
Okay, the decent right. Tampais the same way. Baker Mayfield is
their quarterback. I know, Ikind of like him. I kind of
like him because he's just Baker Mayfield. I find him funny. I mean,
look, I want to know whyhe doesn't he does. He's unapologetic
(27:59):
about who he is and how andhow he plays. Look, I appreciate
that. Yeah, and maybe wehave overlooked Tampa to a degree because Baker
Mayfield. You got a pretty gooddefense the Jared Golf of the South,
and that he's a former number onepick. Right, he bounced around a
little bit. Cleveland didn't want him. You know, he kind of totally
ignoring the Panthers. We are weshould But I mean to see your point,
(28:22):
that could be a trap. You'reignoring them, Dave, That's not
you know, you tried to reversethe jinks did work, and now you're
just ignoring that the Panthers, andthat's not good. Not good. Focus
on what's in front of you,is what Dan Campbell said. So we
are not talking about the box.If this was Tampa, this could be
a trap game because Tampa is atleast average, right, They're a mediocre
(28:45):
team. No, I think atrap game is like the Panthers. It's
like they're zero to four. They'requarterback, no offense, Brice Young,
not very good right now. Andyou no, my Panthers are going to
win one or two games this year, right They're not? And that could
be someday. No, well,I know, but I'm just saying it
could be. If you're looking atyou know you believe in the trap game,
(29:07):
you know it could. But Idon't think so. They're not a
very good team, you know. And I have to tell say one more
thing, but thank god the Lionsplayed the Chiefs the first game of the
season because I am over swift Mania. Okay, look, I heard some
people talk about this. What isthe why take offense to that? No,
(29:29):
No, I'm not offended by it. I just when I'm watching a
football game. I don't know whywe have to see her eighteen million times,
they show crowd shots, they showsho shown I think like eighteen times
during the Jets game Chiefs Jets. She's trying to get those movie ticket money.
Well, I think it's funny howrather she started dating Travis Kelcey and
(29:52):
she has this movie coming out,and I'm just she put on the map.
Yeah. I did hear somebody saytoo that, you know, maybe
it was related to the you know, there's there's a big conspiracy theory about
her and the Jets because she haduh you know, she got I don't
know, minor controversy from all thecarbon footprints she left with her uh yeah,
(30:15):
with with the the private jets thatshe flies everywhere. So now if
you google Taylor Swift Jets, thatgame comes up instead of Taylor Swift that
jewels that she wastes on private jets. So but look, I don't none
of that. Who cares. They'regonna show crowdshots. They're gonna shows,
you know, shots of of peopleon the sideline, people that have nothing
to do with the play that's goingon. Again, I'd rather see that
(30:37):
than see fireman ed waving his helmetaround, you know, trying to rally
the Jets fan. Well, itdoesn't interfere with the game at all,
no, but I think it's sofunny. It's so funny when they do
show showed her Chris Collinsworth was soannoyed. You could tell he was so
annoyed because I think he goes outthere that shot again, you know what
(31:00):
I mean, Like he was likethat to me is funny because the announcers
could care less well, and it'sit gets for them. I think it's
more annoying than the you know, the average fan. I think I didn't
read this story, but I sawTravis Kelsey says something about maybe the NFL
is going a little too far roundblowing this relationship. But hey, before
I went to play basket personal storyhere around it. Before I went to
(31:22):
play basketball Sunday, my daughter said, hey, how do you watch this
football game? She wanted to seeTaylor Swift. So what's I mean?
Maybe it does bring a couple extrafans into games. Well that's what the
NFL is banking on. Why Ithink it was the number one watch show
on Sunday Night twenty six something amillion. My daughter was part of it,
who never would care about watching footballat all, but was just like,
(31:45):
I'm going to tune in because Idon't know Taylor Swift is there and
just to see what this thing isabout. Crazy. It's crazy. But
I'm glad that's over with because thenthat would be a focus here. Lines
don't need that. They need tostay, you know, straightforward, what's
in front of them, you know, with the Panthers. Oh and four
(32:07):
Sunday at Ford Field. You're listeningto the same old podcast. I'm Ronda
Moss with I hired Sports Not Workalong with day Briquet of the Detroit Free
Press. And there's one more thingI have to play because when I love
the nicknames. We talked about nicknames. You have a nickname, Buckets?
Did you have a nickname? Areyou? No? Every player, Every
(32:30):
coach gives a player a nickname.Baseball, hockey, It's it's the weirdest
thing. It's a sports I didhave, Zach in band. What backpack?
Zach backpack that I would just carryyour own backpack with all my drumsticks
in its dying on that one backpack, Zach. That's pretty good. But
(32:54):
he was asked about John Kaminsky, and this is what he had to say
about miss He's kind of the secretsauce to all of it, you know,
the Commishuh, he's the ultimate hardhad guy. He's got his lunch
fell and his hard hat and hejust comes in and puts in a damn
good day's worth of word. Right, he's a secret sauce. Do you
(33:15):
think he's a secret sauce. Well, I don't think he's going to lose
the commissis nickname. I mean, that's where did that come from? Was
that just Dan Campbell calling him?I think it was. He's kind of
the juicer, I think, theguy who gives everyone their nicknames. But
yeah, secret sauce. Maybe maybesome people do the coaches give you a
nickname? I mean, you're thereevery day. Did they ask whole one
(33:37):
of them that old regimes at least? Right, who's that? Yeah?
I don't know, I won't saythe name. Probably some older names definitely
definitely have had some nickname. No, I don't. I don't know they
They certainly don't have any nicknames toshare with us. But no, I
mean it makes sense. It's asports thing, right, Yeah, it's
totally a sports thing. In everysport. Yes, you you know you're
(34:00):
referring to people by last names orshortening the name or something that rhymes with
it. Backpack Zach, you know, it's it's it's definitely something that that
stems from our sports culture. Well, I'm going to ask Dan Campbell to
give you a nickname. Let's doit. I think that's that's an off
season conversation that you could certainly havewith some of the coaches sitting around at
(34:22):
like, oh, yeah, that'sto Bne or something like that, Like,
Okay, what what tell us ofyour nicknames that you got for us?
You know what I mean? That'sthat's definitely like Campbell have a nickname
when he was a player. It'sa good question. I'm gonna have to
ask some of the old guys andfigure out if he did. Ask and
Aaron Glenn, I mean a G. I guess right, everybody calls it
that's not those are initials d C, MC, d C. Right,
there's different nicknames that people have.But I don't know. I don't know
(34:45):
what he would have been called backin the day. I have no idea,
nor do I care. Anyway,Thanks for listening to the same old
podcast. I'm ron to Moss withI Heard Sports Network along with Dayberkat.
His nickname is Buckets of the DetroitFree Press by the back of the bat
