you took the Red Eye back?I did. Are you still tired?

(01:32):
Do you have jet lack? Youknow, I got home and I
took a long, long nap Mondaymorning. But I was home in time
to basically see my son go toschool, and so it's worth it.
You know, what time is theU is the Red Eye? Like?
What time do you get on theplane? I was on in eleven thirty?
There were two red eyes coming backfrom LA. There was like a
ten o'clock and an eleven thirty.I took the second one just to make

(01:53):
sure I had enough time to getmy work in a lot of people,
Oh yeah, it was full.It was full, complete, full.
I think a lot of Lions fans. But most people were sleeping, so
it was not a you know,I fell asleep on the plane for a
little bit, not a great sleep, but you get a little bit of
sleep in and then you get backand you're kind of refreshed Monday. I
mean, you got a little bitof work to do. Tired of course,

(02:14):
but it's not too bad, right, Okay. I much rather have
that than to lose my entire mondayto travel. Oh yeah, I took
a red eye. I had awedding in Palm Springs and I took the
Red Eye and I loved it becauseI was back. I went to sleep
in the morning, you know whatI mean, and then you got your
whole day and you're good to go. I hate getting home, you know,

(02:35):
five o'clock, seven o'clock at night. Ten. There were a couple
of my colleagues who you know, they took a later flight. They got
in it like ten o'clock at night. Like that, just you waste your
day. Yeah, I got awell less they want to hang out time,
unless they want to hang out alittle different. They maybe they want
the weather. But you know, when I've got kids, Yeah, get
home, all right, so you'recoming back. Lions win forty one thirty

(02:55):
eight. They were one of sixteams to kick a game winning field goal
this weekend. Crazy isn't that crazy? Wild? Yeah? Well, obviously
the Broncos kicked a game winner tobeat the Bills after missing the first game
winner. And then that's because theyhad twelve men on the field of Bills.
I mean, seriously counts, right, So Riley Patterson forty one yard

(03:17):
field goal. Now I look atthis game differently. The offense has been
impressive the last couple of years,I think because the offense is what kept
the Lions in the game, likeespecially last season when their defense in the
first half of the year was putrid, right, and then h this year

(03:39):
the offense still good and the defenseimproved, and then you have Sunday's game,
and I'm looking like, what thehell happened? Because I look at
it like if you're gonna you can'tplay like that. This is a playoff
right now. This is a playoffteam. Correct, Yes, absolutely,
And they're saying they could be thenumber one seed in the NFC. Absolutely

(04:01):
could depotential Super Bowl because if theywin Sunday and the Eagles play the Chiefs
on Monday Night. So there yougo, right, So you, as
a negative Nancy, are worried abouttheir defense, that's what you think them
back, I think, yes, that if I had to worry about something,
I don't worry about not losing sleepover, for God's sakes. But the

(04:24):
way they played the second half ofthe game, I was I was befuddled.
It wasn't a great defensive performance overthe final two and a half quarters,
no doubt about that. They don'thave enough pass rush. They're kind
of thin on the back end rightnow. But let me ask you a
question, Ronda, do you knowwhat the Kansas City Chiefs were ranked defensively
last year? Eleventh? Do youknow what the Los Angeles Rams were ranked

(04:46):
when they won the Super Bowl twoyears ago defensively? Fifteenth, seventeenth.
You know what the Lions are rankednow? Fifth? Ninth. Oh,
So you know, I think wehave to keep things in press right,
absolutely, but I'm saying you can. You can't have one of these games,
no doubt, in a playoff game, because you will not win it.
You can't have a shootout. Ithink it's very rare to have a

(05:09):
shootout kind of game like they didagainst the Chargers in a playoff game.
As I always say, and I'velearned this from the best coaches. Defense
coaches win championships, and so that'swhat I always have in the back of
my mind. So when they playedlike this and call me crazy. I'm
like, you can't. Especially now, it's like, why now, what

(05:31):
happened? You're coming off of BUYEWhy the offense was so good and the
defense was not. Yeah, look, I'll grant you and I agree one
that you can't have a game likethat in the playoffs. I mean,
points are tend to be more ata premium, right, You don't have
quite as high scoring games. Anddefense can certainly keep you in some of
these games, especially if you're onthe road. You know, when you're

(05:54):
playing outdoors in the elements, someof that that definitely comes into play.
But this is an offensive game nowand that it's not to I think the
old adage still stands that defense canwin championships. But if you have an
offense that operates like the Lions does, I think you can beat with and
you can hang with anyone. Andthey need the defense to be functional.
They needed to be better than itwas. They need to get more consistent

(06:15):
pressure on opposing quarterbacks. That's beena problem all year. They need to
be better in the back end.And I think if CJ. Gardner Johnson
comes back late December early January,if he's back for the playoffs, I
think that will help because he wasa huge loss, maybe a loss that
we didn't quite realize how big itwas because you know, even we talked
about it on some of the podcastsin September and maybe early October, like,

(06:36):
ah, they still got Tracy Walker, and you know we only saw
two games out of CJ. GardnerJohnson, but that he was a big
loss for the Lions. And soyes, they could have used reinforcements at
the trade deadline, either up frontor in the back end. But I
don't think things are as bleak defensivelyas maybe we come out of that performance
thinking. Now, the one thingI will say around it is like they

(06:59):
don't play a whole lot of othergood teams and good offenses, So I
don't know how good of a testwe're going to get to see exactly what
this defense is until they get tothe playoffs and playing Eagles or a forty
nine Ers or one of those teams. So I don't know that everything is
solved based on the schedule and basedon what they have there defensively. But
you know, I think they havea functional enough defense that they can still

(07:20):
go far in the playoffs. Well, I mean let's get to it,
because gambling Dan was added again.I first of all, the defense allowed
touchdowns on five straight possessions. Okay, then let's get let's come down to
them. A minute forty something inthe game, six one forty six,
okay, fourth and two, andDan Campbell it doesn't trust it. I

(07:45):
don't care what he tells you.Yeah, he did not trust his defense,
and you guys were hammering him afterthe game, and this is what
he had to say. I justfelt like the right thing to do was
to go for it there and putthe finish with the ball in our hands,
get the first down, you know, draina clock and then and let
Riley go in there and hit it. We were you know, that was
a kick that was well within hisrange. And so that's why I did

(08:09):
it. Yeah, he did itbecause and he wouldn't admit it. He
wouldn't go there to say I'm notputting that ball back on the on the
defense, yeah, you know, and he didn't trust the defense and and
he didn't want to admit it.But I have to say Jared Goff was
quite impressed. There's many factors goinginto that, but yeah, he's got
he's got big balls. And heshowed it there and it was it's a

(08:31):
lot of fun when he puts theball in our hands to make the play.
You got meat on the bone andbig balls. I love it.
There. What's this podcast about again? There should be T shirts. I'm
telling you, meat on the bone. He's got big balls. I'm telling
you it's great. And and itwas impressive because most coaches right would kick
it there. They wouldn't go forwardon fourth and two. They would kick

(08:52):
the field goal right then and there. Right, Most NFL coaches are conservative,
and we've r it is not.I love that about Yeah. It's
look since year one here when hewent for all those fourth thounds line set
of record NFL record for most fourthdown conversion attempts that year finished second in
NFL history in conversions. I'd spendsomething that I think has just empowered players.

(09:15):
And Ronda, You're right, hedidn't trust the defense in that situation,
nor should he with Justine Herbert onthe other side of the field and
the way that they were playing. But you know, I think that's just
that's who Dan is. Like,Hey, I want this ball in our
hands. We're going to end thegame here and Look, he doesn't have
a you know, a Justin Tucker. He doesn't have a you know,
vintage Baltimore ray Lewis Ravens defense thatthat you turn that game over your defense,

(09:35):
you win with the offense. Aswe were just talking about, that
is the strongest aspect of this team. And he put the ball in their
hands and they delivered right because theywere what were they four of five on
fourth down? Yeah, and justthree of third seventeen on third down or
something like that. Thirty percent.I forget that. Yeah, that's not
good. But you know what,Look, this is the other part of

(09:58):
him going forward on fourth thounds, and the way that it empowers the people
around him is that a couple ofthose third downs, they had a third
and ten and rather than throw forthe sticks, like Ben Johnson knows,
we have two cracks to get this, so he's thrown a short past the
Khaliff Raymond for five yards. Theyknow they're going to go for it on
fourth downs. So some of thosenumbers can be skewed a little bit just
based on philosophy and what Dan wantsto do. But when you have when

(10:22):
you give your coordinators that entire playbook, when you make a defense know that
they have to defend you for fourdowns. That does a little something to
the opponent too, And the Lionshave been really really good at keeping their
foot on the opponent's throat when itcomes to making some of those decisions.
You're listening to the same old podcast. I'm Ron de Moss with iHeart Sports
Network along with Dabracatt from the DetroitFree Press sponsored by Victory Lane Quick Oil

(10:46):
Change. To me, what wasimpressive was David Montgomery coming back from the
rib right rib I got that rushrib injury. That seventy five yard run,
which we didn't know at the timetouch down run was quite impressive.
He cut and then he took off, He cut back and then he took
off and I have to say,not a bad block from your guy,

(11:09):
Jamison William exactly. So I'm like, if you're not going to catch it,
then block someone. Then after thegame, Aman Rossaint Brown admitted,
well, they had they had thewrong personnel on the field, But I
like that Jared Goff just what checkedout of it and go here, yeah
run well, and you know Goffsaid that, you know, he sort

(11:31):
of recognized it as they were breakingthe huddle. They had the wrong field,
the wrong personnel on the field.Ben Johnson's in his headset saying,
hey, hey, get to thatrun. Yeah, I get to that
run. And so they did. They got to a run play that that
more suited the personnel. And youknow, talking to David Montgomery after the
game, he said, you know, he felt a little bad because he's
running as fast as he could andthen here comes Jamison who catches up to
him, and then Jamison starts joggingnext to him, and he was like

(11:52):
it sort of like was embarrassing forme that here's Jamison, like, you
know, jogging down next to me, and I'm going as fast as I
can, breathing as hard as Ican to to get that touchdown. So
well, kind of a funny momentfor for all those guys involved, I
guess, right, And I'm gladJamison actually contributed something positive in that game.
Almost had a touchdown too, hedid, but yes, and that
was I want to get to thatbecause the beginning of the game, when

(12:16):
the Lions were in the red zone, they failed to get a touchdown.
Uh, they had tried to runit twice, h incomplete pass and then
of course Taylor Decker the penalty.Dan Campbell was pissed he wasn't he because
he was kind of yelling and himon the sidelines after that it was yelling
a Decker. Yeah, okay, well I shouldn't say talking sternly to Taylor

(12:37):
Decker for the low block. Yeah, look that you know, it's a
relatively new rule where you can't cutoutside the tackle box, and it's you
know, it's something. But thereality is, like Taylor didn't even that
wasn't even a good block on theplay, Like he didn't he barely hit
the guy, you know, Butthat's gonna get all it probably is.
I thought it was just because hedidn't, you know, take the guy
down. I didn't know if theywould call that. Look, the reality

(12:58):
with the Lion that the one areathat they've struggled offensively is in the red
zone the last couple of weeks. It started, It probably started a little
bit before the Raiders game, butI think they were one to five on
touchdowns in the red zone against theRaiders. That sort of continued last week,
and the big issue for them hasbeen negative plays. There's been some
turnovers, there's been penalties that havereally you know, put them behind the

(13:20):
sticks, and that was another exampleof that, and it took the touchdown
and away from Jamison. It lookedlike, you know, Jamison was going
to finally get in the end zone, celebrate a little bit. I know
he's had one before this year, but after all he's been through. You
know, he was looking forward tothat, I'm sure, and then to
have that taken away settle for thefield goal, you know, that's that's
one of those things that the Lionshave to make sure that they don't make

(13:41):
those big mistakes in the future. So I guess you could say that they
really have a two headed monster whenit comes to David. Their running game
with David Montgomery and Jamiir Gibbs, they combined for what one hundred and ninety
ninety something? Yeah, yeah,no, the look seventy seven for Jamiir
Gibbs one hundred and sixteen O Ican count math. It is difficult,

(14:05):
not my forte and three touchdowns. So look, you know, we talked
last week that it was going tobe interesting to see how Ben Johnson would,
you know, divvy up the workloadwith those two, because before Montgomery
got hurt, Montgomery was doubling Gibbsup when it came to touches when both
of them were playing in the samegame, and it was almost a fifty
to fifty split last week. AndI think that's what it's going to be

(14:28):
going forward, because Gibbs is sucha home run threat you have toy any
time he touches it, he iscapable of going the distance. And even
though Montgomery did break that seventy fiveyard or great blocking on that play,
all the way around, you know, he's more of the slugger, right.
He throws, the body blows, and Gibbs is the one that's going
to hit you with the big one. And I will say this about Montgomery
too. Talking to him after thegame, he said that the best play

(14:52):
that he made that game was thefake that he carried out on Jared Goff's
touchdown pass to brock Wright. Andyou know, I think that look ugomery.
The one thing I've sort of gottento know about Montgomery in his six
months here is that he is verydeflective of the praise that comes his way.
He always wants to put it onthe offensive line or the other players
or you know, so for himto say, hey, you know that

(15:13):
brock right touchdown was our biggest play. It wasn't me. It was just
you know, I made a fake. That was my best play because it
helped him get in the end zone. You know, I think that tells
you a little bit something about DavidMontgomery and maybe why that backfield they can
be so selfless and sort of worktogether to to you know, produce at
such a high level in their thirtycarries rather than one of those backs needing
to get all the touches. Wonderwhy he's so humble. I don't know,

(15:37):
that's a good question. I'm goingto have to ask him. I'll
be at the game Sunday anyway, aman Ra saying Brown, what could you
say about this guy? I meanhe is every game he impresses, right,
I mean. And it's funny becausewe know this story about the book
and the list right of every playerthat was drafted before him, and he

(15:58):
reads it every day before every game, and it's it's it's funny because he
still does. He still reads itbefore every game, the list of players
that were taken before him, andthen he goes out there and does what
he does. It's you know,I I wrote this comparison. We may
have even talked about this before, but I said, you know, he
has a little bit of that KobeBryant Michael Jordan like killer instinct, like

(16:22):
you wronged me, and even ifyou didn't, I'm gonna make up something
that you wronged me, and I'mgonna keep it with me forever and keep
it his motivation. Yeah, andit really does serve to drive him.
I mean, you're right that thisis. You know, he's a pretty
pleasant guy in the locker room, but he does he puts that that you
know, that mask on on gameday where he just flips that switch and
all of a sudden, he's akiller on the field. And the Lions
are fortunate to have him, andthey're going to have to pay him a

(16:45):
lot of money next year. Ohhe's a really really good player. And
I wonder. I wonder because theLions last on him too. I wonder
if he's gonna make the Lions, you know, how big a contract he
wants he's going to hold them to. He's just so reliable, you know,
any situation you come out there. But I'm curious, do you have
a list of what of anyone thatyou know, do you have a list,

(17:10):
like we you know, I acouple of friends of mine we had
a list. The list was ifyou missed a birthday, you're on the
list, and you're on it forthe whole year. So you never wanted
to be on the list. Soevery time I would call my friend Nate,
Bruce or Cody, it would behappy birthday, take me off the

(17:30):
list, And it was every year. It was if you missed a birthday,
I'm like, crap, I'm onthe list. And it wasn't a
good thing to be on the list. Yeah. A shit list, Yeah,
a shit list. Okay, doyou have a list? I don't
think I really have one like that. No, I mean I there's I
don't you know. Maybe I dohold grudges somewhere, but I don't know
if it's a grudge thing. Itwas. It's more like, you know,

(17:53):
I need to prove to yourself,Like I'm like that, because you
know, trying to get in thisbusiness when I start, it was difficult.
So I was always trying to provemyself. And it's like, you
know, the people that helped me, the people that didn't right, people
that were against right. Yeah, yeah, no, I I guess I've
never really have never really had that, you know, I don't. I
guess it's different like when you're anathlete, like for for a mo on,

(18:17):
it's like you were mad because youshould have been taken earlier. So
you do have that list, AndI wonder if he I kind of have
to ask him if he writes downwhat they've done, you know what I
mean, look at their game andthen look at my you know what I
mean? Does he write down theirstats? Well? Do you remember the
I think it was Washington last yearand the receiver whose name is eluding me

(18:37):
right now, who was drafted infront of him. Am and Ros said
that he looked across the field atthat guy and you know, knew that
he hadn't contributed, knew that hehadn't done anything in that game, and
was sort of wondering in himself likeOkay, came over me, like you
know when I think the guy likehe just caught a stray who I forget
who the receiver was, man,I might have to look that up,
but you know it was like theguy had one hatch for eight yards,

(19:00):
didn't do anything in that game.As a guy from North Carolina, Diomi
Brown. Okay, there we goand yeah, and he just it was
like a random like, yeah, you know, you got this guy on
the sideline who hasn't done anything,And I was like, whoa, Okay,
he really does, you know, carry this his motivation like in his
back not even in his back pocket, like on his chest that he's going
to use in every single game thathe plays. And I bet half those

(19:21):
players aren't even playing that are outof the league. No, I'm you
know. So I was talking toone of the Bears writers earlier today just
you know, we were talking aboutthe game because his brother plays for the
Bears. Yeah, but you know, they were just they're looking for some
story Lions and what to write andhow the Lions. I think in Chicago
right now, a lot of itis, Okay, the Lions have built
this really successful team and they've doneit in a short period of time.

(19:44):
And the Bears are going going tobe going through another rebuild. They're going
to draft another quarterback high and sowhat's the blueprint for that? And they
were asking how Brad Holmes sort ofwent about this and his drafts and you
know Saint Brown and why did SaintBrown fallow the fourth round. Well,
I told him. I remember Bradsaying that, and I don't remember when
it was, but he said somethingto the effect of when Saint Brown ran
whatever slow forty yard dash time heran like he just smiled to himself and

(20:10):
said, Okay, you know, like that's I'm the happiest guy around about
that, because he knew that SaintBrown was a football player and maybe his
testing didn't quite measure up, sohe wasn't going to have to spend a
premium pick to get him. Andthen he fell in the lion's lap and
here we go three years later wherehe's one of the best receivers in the
league. Well, and that's whyhe practices like he does. That's why
he works the jugs machine like hedoes because two hundred and a day he

(20:33):
was taken in the fourth round andthat bothers him. And every day he's
proving to him, proving to others. Well, look what you miss.
So the story and I think alot of people know this. I remember
asking him this, like the firstpractice he had, first training camp practice
he had as a lion, whereI looked out there and he's the last
guy on the field. Catching ballsoff the Dugs machine. I said,

(20:55):
you know, where does this comefrom? And he said it was when
he was I want to say twelve, you know, somewhere early in his
life where he saw a receiver theywere playing in a seven on seven league.
If I remember the story right wherethey saw a receiver that was just
catching everything. Yeah, And soSaint Brown's dad had asked the other kid's
dad, you know, how didhe get such good hands? And he
said, well, you know,he catches two hundred balls off of jugs

(21:15):
every day. And Amen, Rattold himself right then, well I'm gonna
catch two hundred and two. Ifthis guy's the best and he's doing two
hundred, I'm catching two hundred andtwo a day, and just about every
day since then. I mean, you know, granted takes some vacations,
maybe there's some time I've been there, but just about every occasion he has
since then, he catches two hundredand two passes a day. So as
much as we talk about him beingmotivated by the draft snub, you know,

(21:40):
his work ethic that he has rightnow, all that stuff started when
he was a young pup and it'sbeen ingrained in him for the past.
You know, fifteen years you're listeningto the same old podcast. I'm Ron
to Moss with iHeart Sports Network alongwith Dabracat from the Detroit Free Press,
sponsored by Victory Lane Quick Oil Change. Okay, so they leave LA with
a win. They're seven and two, but let's I want to go through

(22:04):
some of the other games because thevik I gotta say, the Vikings,
I mean, they're not going tobe a pushover like we thought at the
beginning of the year. Feat theSaints fit straight win, they're the hottest
team in the NFL. They're notsix and four game back of the Lions.
And the astronaut what is his nickname? I meant to look that up,
Astro back, Astro. I don'tknow something, Yeah, I know

(22:30):
right now. Yeah he was impressive, Oh, pastronaut, pastronat Okay,
okay. Seahawks also won. Ninersstop their three game slide. So Niners,
Seahawks, Cowboys towards the Giant. How embarrassing is that? Towards the
Giants? So all of those Niners, Seahawks, Cowboys six and three and
then what we talked about, Eaglesplay the Chiefs Monday night at Arrowhead great

(22:52):
game. Looking forward to that game. That's a rematch of Super Bowl fifty
seven. Should be great. Hereright, I will say this about last
week's the Vikings. You know what, I think people thought they weren't going
to be as good as they werelast year. But they may be in
the playoff hunt and they've you know, give them credit for surviving. Justin
Jefferson hasn't played more than a monthand Cousins is out now, and so
they're not going to be a pushover. Obviously two games left with him at

(23:15):
the end of the year, maybethree in a four week span. If
these teams match up in the playoffs. The forty nine ers, though,
they got healthy and it showed,Yeah, that was a good Jacksonville team.
They played Rockfordy was clean. Nope, Trump Williams was Samuel's back.
If the forty nine ers are healthy, they are still probably the best team
in the NFC. Yeah, yeah, I think so my opinion. And
Cowboys, how could you tell theGiants are spot off of Yeah? I

(23:38):
mean that was embarrassing. Who's theirde Vito? Tony Danny dev what's their
quarterback? He might as well asDanny DeVito. I mean, look,
but yeah, Tommy Davido, therewe go. But from from the Giants
standpoint right, and they're they couldbe they could get the number one overall
pick in the draft. Right now, I've played to Vito the rest of

(23:59):
the year. Your season's over.Nothing to play for, you know,
I mean, and same with theBears. I mean to be honest because
justin fields. Okay, so let'sput the Chargers game to bed. I
think you know the defense needs tostep it up. I was a little
worried you're telling me I'm wrong.No, No, I think you're right.

(24:22):
They need to be better. ButI don't think it's a huge concern,
like, oh my god, theseason is sunk. I think I'm
not saying that. I'm saying, are we seeing holes that we didn't see?
Is Aiden Hutchinson maybe a little tiredbecause he's got a lot of work
to do by himself. Well,I think we saw these holes because again

(24:45):
we we you go back, whathave we talked about since the trade deadliner
right before? They need some helpin the secondary. So I think we
all knew the holes were there, but that game, certainly, you know,
emphasized it a little bit more. And it is a if there's one
thing that could hold them back,I mean that that could be it.
But again I don't I think theyhave a good enough defense that you know

(25:06):
they're going to be able to winsome games in January. Okay, So
I don't think that they need toworry about Sunday Again. Bears are coming
in three and seven last in theNFC North. Justin Fields might be back.
He's been out a few games withthat thumb injury. You have Tyson
Bagente who has been okay, Imean nothing great, but they just have

(25:27):
a bad team. Yeah, andlook Justin Fields, if we're being honest,
he could give you some He cancause you some problems if he's back.
Two good games rushing against the Lionslast year, and we know how
they've been against mobile quarterbacks. Sodefinitely something to watch. Look, the
Bears are not They don't have enoughplaymakers on that team, especially defensively.

(25:48):
And this is a game I fullyexpect the Lions to you know, they're
going to put up another thirty fiveforty points. This could be another offensive
explosion for them. But Justin Fieldsis playing for his job in all likelihood.
Right, we just talked about theBears he Well, the Bears have
the number one pick because of thePanthers loss, right or one? How
does it go? They have thePanthers pack, they have two first round

(26:10):
picks their own in the paper rightnow, they have the number one pick
in the draft, right, andso you know, if you're picking high,
you're going to be Caleb Williams, right, that's right, like you're
I mean, if it's not Caleb, even if you're picking two, like
it's Drake may So, Justin Fieldsis basically playing for his job and that's
a powerful I mean, we justtalked about am and Ross saying brown like
some of the motivating factors. IfJustin Fields is healthy, you know,

(26:34):
the ability that he has with hislegs that it's certainly. Don't get me
wrong, this is a game theLions should win, and win handily.
But you know, the Bears theyrun the ball well enough that they can
at least score some points. Okay, I don't think it's going to be
close. But I don't even wantto break it down because the Bears are
awful, and the Lions if theyput up you know, thirty eight forty

(26:59):
one like they did against the Chargers, I can imagine what they're going to
do against the Bears. Okay, but there's one thing that I'm quite confused
about because you know, People magazinecame out with their Sexiest Man Alive issue
and sorry, way, no youdidn't. I know. We're all shut
up again, We're all shot. It's tough being a bridesmaid all the time.

(27:21):
Yeah it's Patrick, right, Patrick, Patrick Dempsey one? Oh well
not one, but people say Ilook like him, so it's a twins.
But they had the they had twentyone, the twenty one sexiest men
in sports? Who do you thinkis number one? I got the list?
Yeah, I got. Well, this is what they think. But

(27:42):
here's the thing that not one ofthe Lions made the list, which I
have to say Marvin Jones, Imean, I know is you know he's
really pretty and I cannot believe thathe didn't make that list. Did any
Lions beat writers make the list? No? What is going on? This
is rigged. Voting is grigged.I tell you, come on, I

(28:07):
mean it's does Tom Brady still countright? Is he? No? He
doesn't play anymore? Okay, butit's the Kelsey brothers that went one and
two. Pravison and Jason. Well, that's a Taylor Swift popularity vote,
right, Well, Jason, Imean I think he's cute and funny because
he's funny, he's got a goodpersonality. But I don't think neither one
of them should be one or two. I don't know that I'm extremely qualified

(28:29):
to answer this, but I thinkit's probably it to you. No,
well, I mean I think it'sa Taylor Swift like that props up the
Kelsey brothers in this poll. Youknow, it was three, which I'm
surprised, Like Amman Ross Saint Brownshould be on this list. He's good
looking, a good looking guy.I feel like I'm getting shafted here still,
But I don't mean play. Imean we're not talking about Oh you

(28:49):
said sports. You said sports. No, no, no, no sports
stars, sports athletes, has menin sports? Okay, you don't play
in sports all You're right sports? No, I know you're right, right,
Like, I get over it mySaturday morning old man, look at
SETI got like, why aren't Ion the list? Do you have a

(29:11):
mirror? No? Damn, that'scold, that is cool. I don't.
That's probably why I think I shouldbe on the list. I'm just
kidding. That's why we're in thestudio here on TV. But you know
who's number three, Jonathan Owens.Simone Biles husband. I'm not even familiar
with his work other than knowing heplayed for the Texan Still is that he's

(29:37):
a safety for the Packers. Ithink he used to play for the Safeties,
right, so, but yeah, and then a wide receiver for the
Dolphin. I mean, I'm justsaying that if I if you're kind of
nitpicking, not one Lion is onthe list, and I'm finding that insulting
for them. I don't know.I mean, you know, a lot
of that again is based on thepopularity vote right and right. But then

(30:00):
again, what's sexy sexy could benot just looks? Sure, personality,
Sure, no, I agree,That's why I thought I write timeless.
But but I guess the point beingright, the Lions, even though they
are a hot thing right now, right, they are not or have never
been you know, Tom Brady levelor Kelsey level of right because they're right,

(30:22):
yes, right, and so Ithink that that playbody's looking at them,
no offense, nobody's looking at them. This is the first year that
people outside of sports are really payingattention because I have to do. I
was at a bridal shower the ladies. We're talking about the Lions, Is
that right? Yeah. They wereasking me all kinds of questions such as

(30:45):
such as he was the sexiest guyon the team. Yeah, like,
yeah, Dave that my sister laws, my sister in law. Sister was
telling me. She her husband andthey're from New England, so Boston,
so he's from there. So butthere are big Lions fans. And they
bought a Jamiir Gibbs jersey before anyone, and she dressed up as Jamiir Gibbs

(31:10):
for Halloween. And then you know, and then they asked me all the
time are they nice? What arethey like? Question that I have to
sometimes to be honest and and andruin their especially if they asked me about,
you know, other athletes. Besides, that's a good point for all
the athletes out there that are listening. I know there's so many, but

(31:33):
that is the number one question Iget, right, Are they nice?
Are they How cool is this? And I have to say, Jamiir Gibbs
quiet, nice kid? Uh?You know, Aman Ross Saint Brown is
so smart, He's he's a pleasureto talk to. He's interesting, you
know, but that is, likeyou said, the biggest question are they
nice? And so to your pointabout this whole sexiest man competition, right,

(31:57):
Tom Brady was in the spotlight fortwenty years. Of course he was
I mean good looking guy, ofcourse, right, But of course he's
going to be at the top someof these lists because all eyeballs have been
on them. The same thing withthe Kelsey brothers. The people that vote
for these lists, well, look, they know the Kelsey Brothers a lot
more than like Taylor's third of likethe Lions rosters. So some of those
people, you know, no oneeven knows who they are, So they're

(32:19):
not going to make those lists.Whereas when when Travis Kelcey is in Argentina
in his Instagram follower Spike because allthe Taylor Swift fans eyeballs are on him.
Hey, he's gonna make that listsomewhere. Because let's be honest,
too, people are going to clickon it. If it's got his name
in Taylor Swift's name on it,it's going to show up in their Google
search. Well, it's not justfootball NFL players that's on the list,
like Jimmy Buckets made the list.Okay, you know, I see I

(32:43):
would think like soccer stars, right, yeah, of course. Is it
Jimmy Buckets like Emo phase Jimmy Buckets. Oh yeah, they have that picture.
Oh let's go with the hair.Yeah. I just want to say
I love him. I think heis fabulous. If we go back to
Jotani is on here the episode thatwe talked about nicknames. I think they

(33:06):
might have just got the bucket wrong. That was it wrong picture bucket?
There we found out what happened.I want a direction. Curry is on
you know what I mean. Soit's not just NFL players. But I
when I looked at it and Iwent through the whole list, and they
had some NFL players, I'm like, not one lion is on here,
and they're you know, there's somecute I'm telling you, Marvin Jones he
should have been on this list. He's no longer in the league, I

(33:28):
know, but I'm just I'm justsaying when they came out with this list,
I think he still was, youknow. But you know what's interesting,
which I want to go back to, and again, I'm really sorry
you didn't make any of the list. Me too, Me too. God,
it would have been great for mymy bank account, right, all

(33:49):
the appearances I could have made offof it. I am shocked that you
didn't make the list at all. It's a tough lot I've been dealt in
life. You're listening to the sameold podcast. I'm Ron de Moss with
the Ihearts It's not Work, alongwith Dabracat from the Free Press. You
know, it's funny because at theend of the game on Sunday I found
it interesting what Jim Nance said fromforty one yards the kick that'll make the

(34:14):
trip back to Michigan a joy ride. We might be seeing these Lions in
Las Vegas. Who were you surprised? Did you hear that? I mean,
that was the most tweeted out thingI think after the game. I
mean I didn't hear it in realtime, but I certainly heard it afterwards.
It's impossible to miss. But youshould have heard the praise that Tony

(34:35):
Romo was. I mean, hewas slurping up the Lions now former teammate
of Dan Campbell, right, hehad some funny stories to say about Dan
Campbell, but the way he wastalking about the Lions at the beginning of
the game. You never heard likeanything like that ever. And that's the
point of outside the city that peopleare paying attention to this team. Look,

(34:58):
I mean that was the number oneCBS broadcast team. When was the
last time the Lions ever had thenumber one? Maybe Thanksgiving? But they
know they have that Fox crew withYeah, but before this season, right
that gross especially? Yes, Yes, those guys are right. The Lions
are legitimate super Bowl contenders. Youlook at what they do on the field,

(35:19):
you watch the film from a footballstandpoint, you look at the schedule
that they have in front of them, you look at what they've done already.
There is no doubt that this isa Detroit Lions team that could be
in the super Bowl. You know, in the NFC, I still think
the forty nine Ers the Eagles probablybetter teams. But if this road,
if the playoff road runs through Detroit, and it very well might, like

(35:42):
I don't know that the Lions wouldlose at home to one of those teams.
I mean, they the belief thatthey have, the way these fans
have supported it, the home fieldadvantage, that they have, the things
they can do on offense, evendefensively, even though I think we both
agree that it's the week Linker cracks, but it's good enough in myinion that
they can hang with anyone in theNFL. And so for Jim Nantz to

(36:04):
say that doesn't shock me at all, because I do think the Lions are,
you know, one of let's justcall it four teams in the NFC
that could make the Super Bowl, right, and so they would get would
they get a first round by?And look, the Lions are going to
have two playoff games, two homeplayoff games. They're either going to get
the first round by and then they'regoing to play both those playoff games at

(36:25):
home because they were going to bethe two seed and they're going to play
a wildcard first game, and thenwhoever they play in the second game at
Ford Field, right, my opinion, could be the three seed. But
but they're probably going to be atop two. But first they have to
play the Bears on Sunday. Sorryto they get yeah field, right exactly,
So score, you're gonna give mea score? What I think this

(36:46):
is a comfortable win for the Lions. Let's call it thirty eight seventeen.
I just don't think the Bears areThey're not good defensively, they made the
Montes Sweat edition. He helped that'sthat big. He helped the pass rush.
I just don't think they have enoughplaymakers. I don't think they're a
good enough team right now to putany sort of field Lions at home in

(37:08):
a game that they should win.And I do think that this is the
game the defense gets better. Youknow, you'll see it totally different Ronda
week. So the Chargers going intothat game last week, everyone was talking
about how good they were. That'sbecause the two previous games their defense,
that is, the two previous gamesthey played no one. It's going to
be the same thing right exactly, the play the Bears and the Packers.

(37:30):
So when we come out of thistwo game stretch, we're going to be
saying, oh, this Lion's defenseis fixed. It looks good. That's
not the case. Yea, theystill have holes, but I get healthy.
Right to your point, when youhave a game like this, a
team like this, it's not verygood, and yes you cannot take anyone
lightly, but the issues you hadlast week you could kind of fix this

(37:51):
week. That's all I'm saying.Agreed, And this is a good run
defense. The thing that they strugglewith is in the back end in rushing
the quarterback. Justin Fields can't throwlike Justin Herbert can. I don't think
it's an issue this week. ThanksDave. I really appreciate it. No
problem. Gotta go talk to thosepeople about the Sexiest Man poll nine you
do. I would write them aletter to handle it. I would write

(38:12):
I would write them a letter.Let us know what happened to Shoup in
person. See if that changes hermind. Dave Forcat from the Free Press.
