Leech joining us. Thank you somuch. Dan. Hey guys, I
(01:30):
hope you had a wonderful, veryChristmas and holiday season. Where thirty years
ago I was living in Chicago.Where were you? I'll tell you where
I was. I was at thebeautiful mountains in Cascade, the Cascade Mountains
in California, and reading with absharems of women around me and feeling really
good. I was a great milerback then, living in a world of
make believe you know it wasn't I'llshow you the pictures. What were you
(01:53):
on that you thought you were withthe harem of women? Well, just
good looks. I mean I wasa great shape back then. I was.
I mean you you know, youdon't have to believe me, but
I mean I actually there were herosof women. I mean that's the way,
that's the way it worked back toBut but it's it's cool. I
want to tell those quick story. We'rend of great to see you, snack
(02:14):
attack always the best and all ofeveryone in a great holiday season. Well,
we're not done yet. We gotNew Year's we got playoff games,
everything, but we were in themountains. This is like back in the
days there was cable, but likeit was early cable. The guy,
one of the main counters in theschools name was Eric von Melser. Sounds
like a count. He was abig Dolphins fan. He had one of
those ridiculous real satellites, like theones that are the size of buildings.
(02:36):
Back that's the way you said withfive thousand channels. He would tape all
the Lions games for me and letme watch them at like four o'clock in
a classroom aout a Sunday after theLions played that. It was very tough
being away from home. I was. It was a year on school.
I was. I was away fromhome for almost three years. That got
me through it, and I rememberthat ninety three year and obviously this strong
sharp game sucks. He's still wideopen. But being able to watch those
(02:58):
Lions games and the playoff games andbe connected to home when it was tough
to be away from home, thatsaved me and brought a lot of memories.
When the Lions clinched the first titlein thirty years last week, right,
so obviously they clinched the NFC Northtitle when they beat the Vikings.
On Sunday for the first time sinceninety three, they will host their first
ever playoff game at Ford Field. This is really funny. So after the
(03:23):
game they always send out notes andthere's a laundry list of facts and just
information. Sunday they sent out notesall on it. It says postgame notes.
The only thing on it Lions,NFC nor Champions. How funny is
that this is what they or itwas a I don't know, but I
(03:46):
thought it was. I laughed sohard when I saw it, because you
don't need anything else. I thinkthat what they were also doing is probably
having a lot of fun. Wonderthey should have fun thirty years. Let's
hear from them, they're having fun. You never forget your first one.
Hey, it's been a long timecoming and it feels good. Hey,
you know what, now everybody canrespect us and everybody better can fear us.
(04:10):
Let's go lines all three one twothree line. Yeah, it really
is cool and you know, beingable to really reflect on it like we
did something that. Yeah, youknow, there's a team after team after
team for thirty years and this twentytwenty three team did it and uh,
you know, broke that streak andwe'll we will guarantee a home playoff game.
(04:30):
And but yeah, I got somework to do next week and then
the following and see where we cango. Right and I both felt like
we should be competing for the divisionin year three. We felt very comfortable
about that we should have a competitiveteam be able to and we felt like
in year two we could do it. But we we had to do everything
right, every little thing right, and we we could and and we got
(04:50):
off to, you know, alittle rough start. We weren't doing every
little thing right, and everybody hadto work playing pretty good football. So
have you ever forgotten your first one? Absolutely? Not sixteen? What about
you? Let me say this,Rondo, And I just love what Dan
Campbell had to say there. Iknow he went on and talked further about
(05:12):
you know, it's you don't know, winning your division is a special thing.
It doesn't happen often, you know, kind of taking a moment to
understand how cool it was. Butyou could tell that's not this team isn't
stopping it's the division. You know, they they have goals and listen,
is there a great chance of winninga Super Bowl this year? I love
for it to be true. Idon't think it is. But and I
won't say the word you love somuch, But this team is getting somewhere.
(05:35):
Are they are building to something, rise with frescendo and there I think.
But I gotta be honest, Dan, Dan Campbell disagrees with you because
you say it's building to A guestsay that he's not going to be able
to win it this year. Butyou know, he said, we thought
we would be competing last year,And yes, we did believe the vision
(06:00):
that we would be competing this yearthree not year two and a half.
Not year two and three quarters arethis year, I know, But I
agree with that. I said beforethe season the Lions were gonna win the
division for the first time in thirtyyears and win at least a playoff game,
and that's a successful season. Idon't know about winning a playoff game.
I'm just saying this. It wasright for them to take this division
(06:20):
this year because all the other teams, In fact, because Aaron iHeart Rogers.
I heart Aaron Rodgers is gone. No, that's how I refer to
him as. I heart Aaron Rodgers. He's so dreamy. But here's the
funniest thing. So he was onthe Pat McAfee show yesterday and they asked
(06:43):
him about the Lions. Is hehappy, you know, the Lions winning
the division. Here's what he hadto say. This guy, I'm not
happy. I mean, although I'min the New York I definitely still want
the Green and Gold to take theNorth every year. But they got a
good football team. Jared's had areally nice season. Obviously, Saint Brown
(07:04):
is a fantastic receivering a lot ofguys, two early good backs. Jamiras
had a really nice year and alwaysbeen a fan of Montgomery. The way
he runs the ball's toughness, Lion'sreally good on both sides of the ball.
Defense been playing good. So theygot a good football team. Uh
so they're gonna, you know, host a playoff game. I think the
NFC is is pretty deep. Iheard Aaron Rodgers it killed him to give
(07:29):
the Lions any you you you heardit in his voice. You know he's
not happy because he still wants thePackers, even though he doesn't play for
them, he still would like themto win the division. But you could
tell when he was talking about theLions. Yeah, they got pretty good
this and that, like it justkilled him. But you know, I
heard Aaron Rodgers. I know youlove it, Ron, But first off,
the Packers basically said goodbye to theguy that was their their least.
(07:53):
I know, what he played forthem is his whole career. So of
course he still had I know, but not in the same not in this
same conference, and not in thesame anything. So of course, if
he's going to pick a team inthe NFC, it's going to be the
Packers. It's not going to bethe Lions because he's beaten them every which
(08:13):
way he can when he played untilthe end, right until last year,
well in a couple of years beforewhen the Lions got him, he had
a great record against the Lions especiallyYeah, of course, so you know,
the Packers were winning that division everytime, you know, And that's
the thing. This was the yearthe Lions. Because the Packers are down,
Bears are down, although they've playedbetter of the last few weeks,
and the Vikings, you know, they're going through quarterback issues because Nick Mullins
(08:37):
can't seem to throw it to theright jersey. Yeah, why are you
going away for the pastor out bythe way. But back to the point
that I just wanted to make quickly, is it listen? And whether the
divisions down or not. The Lionsare eleven and four with two games to
go. Absolutely if they are incontention, yes, for the top seed
in the nfceed by right. SoSan Francisco, they got their asses kicked
(08:58):
by the Ring exactly, and Ithink they are the best team in the
league before that, Before that game, I thought it was San Francisco.
I think it's right. Okay.So the Eagles won by the skin of
their teeth against the Giants, sucked, Cowboys lost. So Eagles, Niners,
(09:18):
Lions all at seven four. Buthere's the thing. The Niners are
going to clinch the because they ownthe tiebreaker over both. You win a
game, right, So if theywin, they're playing the Commanders on Sundays.
I don't see if how got btch, but you never you never give
about those Commanders. And of coursethe Lions are going to the Cowboys and
(09:41):
they haven't won there against them sincetwenty thirteen. And the Cowboys are seven
and ozer at home this season anda perfect spot for an upset, but
yeah, and but you know it'sinteresting because they celebrated after the gay,
after the win against the Vikings, and now they have worked it. Yeah,
And that's what I was alluding to, is I love what Dan Campbell
(10:01):
had to say. I'm paraphrasing here, but you know, you never know,
you know, it's winning a Visionspecial. You never know how many
times you're going to do it.But you could tell and in some of
the stuff we played too, thatthey know as cool as this is to
do somebody that they haven't done ina franchise for thirty years, and it
took Dan Campbell and Holmes three yearsto do it. They were crying,
yes, and Taylor Decker was crying, It's not about you. Oh I
(10:26):
know, I'm say not about you, emotional, It's not about you.
It's about Taylor Decker, Stendard Lion. He's been here eight years and he's
finally as you heard, you know, he's gone through it. He knows,
sol respect all that stuff. Andhe was after the game. I
(10:46):
was listening to an interviewer he washe was crying. It was like it
was, I don't know, youjust look at him and go, good
for you. Because you deserve that. You've been here the longest and you've
taken so much crap because those teamsstunk, and you're able to celebrate a
title, right, And that's that'swhat I'm saying. It's like they know
(11:07):
how special this is. But youknow, and someone was asking me that
day, they're gonna raise a bannerfor the division. I'm like, I
hope not, because this team knowsthat while you celebrate that division title,
they get back to where it getsa Cowboys team out of primetime game again.
And the Cowboys are coming off aloss and they need to win too
because they're a game back of theEagles in their nfcas, so they need
to win and I need to finisha point. Please let me finish the
(11:30):
point. So it's anyway, Zach, what's new with it? She keeps
cunning off. You've got some greatstuff here. I've been proving it for
hours. I love Randa, Sothey know that there's way more on the
mission here and that while I youknow, the whole point that I'm thinking
is I don't thin they're ready. They're going to have to winish the role
of this year. But you're right, who knows maybe they are. And
I gotta say this, and thisis something that I think is I'm not
(11:54):
saying you haven't thought about it orother people have thought about it, but
not enough people are thinking about this. What the big change that's been made
in the last five, six, seven, whatever years you want to say,
is when Sheila Fordham took over theteam, fully took it over.
Before she took over the team, they were doing nothing right. They would
make mistakes, they would do goodthings, they would never find a way
to get through it. She takesover, understands the sad sack fans the
(12:18):
Starcross franchise, and since she tookover, they won their first division title
thirty years. They have a legitimateGM, a legitimate coach. I want
people to talk more about her actuallytaking an active role, because no,
I'll due respect to William play FordSenior, who I knew, very nice
guy and obviously a son that tried. They tried, they failed, They
didn't know what they were doing. For whatever reason, she seems to know
what she's doing things we're seeing measurablesuccess. Well, no, for the
(12:41):
first time in decades with her incharge, you're listening to the same old
podcast. I'm Ron to Moss withThigheart Sports Network along with Dan Leach.
I really think the reason is thatthere are football people in those positions decision
they didn't go outside. She catfreaking what's his name here? No oh,
(13:03):
Quinn no oh. I understand we'renot saying his name, Snat'susnitche or
Valtimore. But my point is thatit took her for the right people here
to guide her to hire football people. But what my point is about her,
So I'm giving other people, well, she's the owner, of course,
(13:26):
get the credit, and she had, you know, to sign off
on all these hires. So yes, but the right people, the football
people are in place, and thatis the difference. And I just think
that she I'm not saying the otherFords didn't, but I remember the press
conference is the first ones I've seenit and talked with her. She seems
(13:48):
to really get how much this teamloves the how much the city loves the
team, and how so many baddecisions were made. Like it's not like
she's just like, oh yeah,we're you know, I'm the she was
part of those bad decisions and don'tut her off theall. He's fully in
charge. She was, she waspart of those bad decisions and now quick,
(14:09):
quick, and now again football people, Chris Pielman, Dan Campbell,
I mean again, if you lookback three years ago, people didn't think
Dan Campbell was you know, BradHolmes is the main I'm not saying he's
the only reason. He's the mainreason this team is hitting on all cylinders
with draft picks and signings. Well, it's also what Dan Campbell said is
(14:31):
they're a team and it starts fromthe top to the players in that locker
room. It's a team and theywork together. Unlike Tom Gores. Oh
geez, do we have to ruinthe great Holiday spirit? Well, talk
about you know, if you lookat the is this the right word?
Juxtas juxtaposition exactly one of my favorites, like crescendo. But you know,
(14:56):
I even hate to talk about itbecause you know, the Lions won the
Vision. But we do have totalk about the Pistons, and it's just
gross. The losing streak, whichis twenty seven consecutive games, that is
the longest streak in a single seasonin NBA history. Don't jump off the
(15:16):
boat. We got to stay together. It's time to stand off and be
on your own. But we needto continue to lean on each other and
continue to push each other and holdeach other accountable more than ever. Now
that's what we got a dig deep, you know. So twenty seven losses
NBA single season record for most lossesin a season in a single season.
(15:43):
Give it. Here's the best standtown. Gores really dropped the ball,
no pun intended when he decided tospeak to certain members of the media Friday
night. So the and and somethingthat came out of his mouth is offensive
when he said he was asked aboutthe chance sell the team and during that
(16:04):
conference scholars said it's ridiculous. Andthen he dropped this line, other than
winning, and we should win moregames. We do everything to bring the
best to Detroit. Other than winning. Winning is the most important thing you
could do. You have lost nowtwenty seven straight and you said other than
(16:26):
winning. That fine completely clueless,Ronda, And excuse me, by the
way, I love Johnny Kane.I'm glad George blod didn't have to make
that call because he's linked to thegreat history. Grow up with that guy.
All the titles. The saddest thingto me about Gorris and the you
know, Weaver not talking to themedia and being Troy Weaver should be really
(16:48):
speaking to the media. And becausenone of those guys all the time are
losing their job. That's what Goresaid on that conference call. Tory Weaver
is not going to be fired. You can't fire money Williams. You're paying
him a boatload of money. It'sbody Williams fault. It's will He's better
there for half a season, rightexactly. So, I think obviously it's
not good they lost twenty seven ina row, but well, I think
Troy Weaver has to be held accounton the team that Troy put together,
(17:12):
exactly. So to me, it'sembarrassing because this is a proud franchise.
He wants proud franchise who unfortunately afterthe Davidson's you know, obviously Bill Davidson
and his daughter took over once theywere out and Gorse was in. It's
been garbage. I mean, it'snot that I don't think I used to
think we would use a cop outwhen they said the Forges didn't want to
(17:33):
win. I think it's a stupidterm. I don't think it's a Gorse
doesn't want to win. He hasno clue what he's doing. He doesn't
really see him, never did no, and I know he's put arm tum
on other guys in charge. Whatexactly is arn tell him doing losing?
And by the way, can Ibring up this this sizzling stat. I'm
sure you know this. I thinkwe talked about it last week with the
(17:53):
Lions win over Minnesota in the lasttwo years, that they now have one
more win than the Detroit Pistons oneof the over two years. I think
the Pistons have nine is it ninewins wolvers tears? They have nineteen nineteen
seventeen last year and two this year. The Lions have twenty. The NFL
plays a fifth as many games asyou do in the NBA. That's absurd,
(18:17):
Sauce. Well, it's sad,it's ron. It's depressing to me
because I have a lot of friendsor just people that I know interact with,
you know for what I do inradio, TV stuff, that reach
out and say should they sell theteam? Like they're just depressed. They're
sad because they love going to thePistons games. They love that had a
nice crowd yesterday. I did becauseI want to see the record. Well,
(18:37):
right, stupid. Of course youhave to. I would if I
didn't have to get up at thecrack of don when you brought that up.
I think that it's dumb to cheerfor the record. I don't want
the record. I don't want therecord, I know. But again,
if you're gonna lose, go bigor go. They're gonna get twenty eight
because they're playing the Celtics. Althoughthat would be pretty funny if they staved
off the record, the all timeoverlapping season record by beating the best team
(18:59):
in the NBA. That is justlike the Pistons. The Pistons are a
laughing stock because you know, it'sfunny because I was watching the game and
they came out with a I thinkif they had like a twenty two five
or twenty eight something lead, andof course they can't hold the lead because
what what do they do all everygame over exactly Tonos guys go cold,
(19:22):
and you just they just can't putit all together. And Kate Cunningham game
high forty one. Yeah, Idid want to say something about kid.
Now, listen, this team isobviously they're the youngest team in the NBA.
It's not to make excuses and it'sprobably poorly constructed. Well, obviously
it is right now. I likeKate cunning Out a lot. That guy's
got heart. He's in a terriblesituation. He's what is he twenty two
some of years old. He's ayoung guy, and to go through this.
(19:45):
I think if he stays here andis a demand of trade or something,
this could be that you know, you know you you always see in
the look backs when they're you know, before a playoff game or a big
playoff series. This was you, guys twenty nine thirty five in a row.
You lost, and then they lookback and then it's like the look
right now. I hope he's herebecause he's the kind of guy you want
to build a team around. I'mnot saying he's as good as you know,
(20:06):
He's not gonna be the next MichaelJordan or anything. But I like
Kate Cunningham and his metal and hisfortitude and what he kind of connects to
about what Detroit and bodies, andI think this could be a good thing
for him when they get through thisnonsense. You're listening to the same old
podcast. I'm Ron de Moss withiHeart Sports Network along with Dan Leech and
Zach are a steam producer. He'sthe best pot Okay, So we're just
(20:32):
gonna put put the put a capon the Piston's longest losing skit in NBA.
His screen single season is single seasonat twenty seven. They're just gross
And by the way, there's nothingelse to say, because oh, they're
disgusting that, you know what Imean. It's like watching that. It's
sad. It's it's now that Ithink about it, it's really sad.
(20:55):
It's very sad that they are goingthrough this. And again I was at
their last win October twenty eighth. It feels like it was six years ago.
By the way, the twenty seventh, maybe I should maybe actually where
this is your fault, I'll shoulderthe blame. It is my fault.
Maybe I should go back. Sothe twenty seventh loss was this Azapa Chilia
loss. Here we go. It'sAaron Aflalo time. So I hopefully they
(21:18):
g it's or Beef stew Is.A can't give a Curt number on the
team this, but I think it'sor Dick Triptoe from forty nine. If
they if they, if they lose, it's gonna be I said about four
losses ago, it's gonna be likethirty five. When they did it beat
was it was Memphis? When theydid beat Memphis and then did beat Utah,
who was out of you? Thatwas the game you thought they were
gonna win from the back to backbefore the six top guys out. I'm
(21:41):
like, this is probably going tothirty five because keeps mounting. You know,
you hear you know what Kay Cunninghamis saying in front. But I
wonder if like they're sitting in theirlocker room, you know, kind of
just like laughing in terms of whatwhat are we going to do? No,
I don't think so what are theygonna do that? I'm not not
caring or like just sitting there goinglike sometimes you just gotta shrug your shoulder
(22:06):
and goes, what could we do? What do we have to do?
Two things? I think they're extremelyembarrassed like the rest of us. They
should be embarrassed that effort. AndI gotta be hosy. I know what.
I'm sorry to interrupt you. Iam Tom Gore should be sitting there
at that course, in that arenaand not hiding in LA I haven't watched
a ton of the last you know, fifteen games. I've watched big parts
(22:29):
of them. I watched a lotof the game last night when they lost
to Brooklyn at LCA. And Igotta tell you, even though they're just
you know, turning the ball overleft and right and following when they should
or not following when they should, they really gave a tremendous effort. They're
trying, they're working their asses off. He just can't get it done.
And it's it's like you said,it's not only sad for the fans,
(22:52):
but it's tough to watch because theseguys, as I said last week,
the more and more losses that stackup, it's like the opposite of like
going for the Jodamas hit streak, where there's pressure, but it's like a
good thing. This is a badthing. It's just building more and more.
Like I know, is that worsetrying to skid or break or kidding?
No, this is worse. Ithink this is worse because there's such
(23:14):
negative connotations and embarrassment. I mean, everyone's talking about Jane let it was
done to be in President's cogomy night, so like it's it's it's getting worse
and worse. You mentioned a goodcrowd. I was. I could believe
there's giving tickets away or something.Well, they probably weren't. Kids are
off school. You gotta pay kidsto go to the Pistons these days.
But I think, oh, itwas Rick Mahorn bable haad night, which
(23:36):
I feel bad Horns my guy.But don't think that's why it was a
big crowd. No, I know, but it was Rick Mohorn bablehead night.
I would have gone for that.Well, yeah, we would have,
but I don't think I have thekids know Rick morn is, Oh
my god, they should because hewas fabulous. I feel bad for him.
He used to make fun of mynose and my mom got mad about
that because she used to she hada nose job back in the day.
(23:56):
But Ricky, if he makes funof you, means he loves you.
I covered rick Free. He's justfabulous anyway. All right, So Pistons
they could break or snap kidnap peaceon Thursday Night against the Celtics, but
I highly doubt it, so itwould be twenty eight straight losses. I
think the Celtics are eight and ahalf point favorites. If I'm not that
(24:17):
blow, well it's a road game. So I'm just saying, does it
matter it's twenty seven losses? Youplay him on the No? Sorry,
no, it's in Boston. Ithought the lines. I thought I saw
eight and a half, But it'sgonna be like probably fourteen and a half.
Prould be like twenty take the Pistons. Never anyway. So getting back
to a team that won their division, the Lions. Uh, okay,
(24:42):
So it's the second longest active droughtwithout a division title. It was yep,
and now that belongs to the Browns. Yeah, and I think the
longest title goes back to the Cardinals, right, But I thought they played
pretty well the defense, you know, four sacks, four picks. But
(25:06):
then again, Mullins, I swearto god, I was watching that game
and I'm like, does he knowthe color of the jersey he's supposed to
throw it to? And to behonest with you, Vikings could have won
that game because Justin Jefferson should havecaught that ball in the end zone and
game possibly over. It was thatdivision title. I did pick it thirty
(25:26):
one to twenty. Not too badby the guy. The last couple weeks
seven pretty on my predictions for youguys. But you know what I was
thinking about, Rona. I thinkthis is something that a lot of people,
especially that are my age and theirforties, can relate with. You
know, who knows what's going tohappen when this team gets to the playoffs.
But I know that the first timeI went to a playoff game for
(25:49):
the Lions was ninety one, andI knew things were different because we had
like season to get to the familyfor decades, and parking was like normally
five bucks that day it was twentyand you just people were there early,
and can you imagine. I mean, obviously they're still working against Dallas and
whatever seed the lines are gonna bein. Then of course they closed against
Minnesota. But what Ford Field isgoing to be like for the first ever
(26:11):
playoff game. I mean, they'vewon one playoff game in sixty six years.
I looked at tickets just to seehow much people are trying to charge.
It's gonna go down twenty nine hundreddollars for like end zone seats.
Well here's the thing. Okay, since we're talking playoffs, the season's not
over, But if if the playoffswere to start today, let's have a
(26:32):
little fist. So right now,the Niners are are division leaders, NFC
Eagles two, Lions three, okay, Bucks four, how about that NFC
South. But then the wildcard Okay, this is Rams. Okay, so
Cowboys are fifth, Rams are six, Seahawks seven. Right, So the
(26:55):
Niners would have a first round byyep, the Eagles would play the Seahawks.
Lions would play the Rams. Thatwould be That's what I've wanted for.
That would be so delicious to haveMatthew Stafford come back to Ford Field.
Probably be the money I gave andthen Jared Goff you know, Sean
(27:15):
kay, right, but the Rams, Okay, I have to win this
weekend then they will clinch a playoffs. Right by the way, people are
like, who you want to play? No, no team makes me nervous
at Ford Field. I don't carewho comes in there. I know they
lost the Seahawks. We were atthat game Rana, a game Lions probably
should have won. But if you'rea Lions fan, you don't care who
you play. It's at Ford Field. If you play your game, you're
(27:37):
gonna beat that team, whoever thatis. That's how good the line is.
Not that I'm nervous about playing thatteam. It's more I'm more nervous
that I don't want to lose againstMatthew Stafford. I already liked the guy,
but I don't want him to ruinour hopes. I'm totally with you
on that, and I was abig Stafford guy. There was seemed like
there weren't many people like me thatbelieved that it wasn't really Stafford's fault.
But if he came back and brokethe hearts of the Lions first playoff ford
(28:00):
Field, that would suck. Butlike I said, if the lie and
you can't boo because everybody was rootingfor him when he went to La rams
hie my shirt. If you don't, it's so gross. It's the great
it's the coolest and the non grossest. That's out gross. So if you
are the Lions and you play theway you've played the majority of the ford
(28:21):
Field games, you're gonna beat Ifthe Niners came in, you'd beat them.
So I think, to me,I don't care who they play.
Lion's got to finish the season ashealthy as they can. And I think
the Lions, if they don't havea seating on the line against Minnesota.
They probably will rest some guys, but I think Campbell is the proponent of
They'll be out there, but they'renot going to play in the third and
fourth quarter if they don't need to, right, And I think the most
(28:41):
important thing is they're gonna pass.I shouldn't say for sure, but get
some injured players back, especially he'sa heart and soul guy. I don't
think James Houston, he had afractured ankle. I doubt that he's gonna
be I thought to myself if therewas no chance he was coming back,
but stranger things have happened. Yeah, I'm not so sure about James Houston,
(29:06):
but I am sure about CJ.Will be CJ. Gardner Johnson will
be back definitely for the playoffs. And just to put up on this too,
this team is so I mean,Ron that you covered I have as
well so many different Lions teams. This team is so much fun. They're
fun to watch. They truly careabout each other, whether it's golf,
going off the field and having thatbig sigh of relief. But Hutchinson and
(29:27):
and just all these different players.Joseph, they talked to them at the
airport when they landed they know howmuch the fans, how much they bean
to the fans. They know howlong suffering the Lions fans have been.
You've seen all these videos. I'vemet friends that have gone on the road
all season long and see Lions fanstake over these road stadiums. It no
matter what ends up happening ultimately thisyear, to me, this is the
(29:48):
start of a springboard to a longperiod of time where when you hear the
Detroit Lions, they're no longer inthe hunt their division title, winning,
number one seed winning. That meis where this team is being set up
to go. You know, formany many years, we've never other than
Wade Foughts that they went to theplayoffs four or five years in the early
nineties with Barry Sanders. Other thanthat, we've never had long term viable
(30:10):
success in Detroit. Ever, maybeI think whatever happens in the playoffs,
there's there's gonna be viable success.Oh, I think this is I think
this is not a flash in thepan. Now. I don't think bad
for three right exactly. Okay,so let's put a bow on this.
A couple questions for you before yougo, Dan Leach, Lions, Cowboys,
(30:36):
Saturday night. I thought you weregonna ask me what it's like to
work with you. It's a truedelight in my career. Well, I
know that. In the great moments, Yeah, I know. I can't.
I hate to do this because I'vebeen I haven't missed the prediction yet
on this great show that I've beenable to do with you. I'm picking
the lines to lose a close one. I think it's going to be a
really fun game. But I thinkin the end, just being at Dallas
(30:56):
is it. The lines haven't beenthem since twenty thirteen. It's a tough
place to play there. Seven noteomes you mentioned. I think it's a
big game for Sam Laporte after nota huge one this last week. Another
big game for golf, but inthe end, too much Dak Prescott and
Tony Pollard and don't watch out forJake ferguson the tight end. Cowboys thirty
two, Lions twenty nine. Okay, now Michigan Slappy, Oh yes,
(31:18):
you got the Rose Bowl. Yougot the College Football playoff semi final Monday,
Michigan Alabama go by the way.I saw the first promo they were
playing the Grand Fronk Railroad song canI get a witness and it showed all
the different Michigan players and Baba playerswhatever. I got chills, but Mike
Santa Store came on the screen.I'm nervous, but I'm confident. It's
(31:42):
like when I go in front ofpeople to talk and do, like an
interview in the Tiger State at Comerica. I'm never I'm anxious because I'm confident,
but I'm anxious. I want itto go well. This Michigan team
is better than Alabama. But it'sAlabama. It's Nick Saban, it's a
neutral field, it's Jaylen Monroe.I think in the end, the wolver
in the better team, and Ithink the JA I like Michigan's defense against
that Alabama offense. Michigan's defense againstanybody. Yeah, I don't care.
(32:06):
What's the second ranked in the Yeah, greatest show on turf rams put me
against them. I think in theend it's the defense. It's guys like
Santa Strol that can you know, make an interception like Woodson used to that
can change the game and change theseason. I think it's gonna be a
great game. I advited in ourparty. You're like, I'm not gonna
go no, but Zach, you'reinvited. You're in free food and drinks
on the squatch. My dad's gonnapay though, so does he know that?
(32:30):
Maybe not, but he listens tothe podcast. So to me,
it's gonna be a defensive moment. That is the difference. And to be
honest, I think the Michigan canpull away and win by ten or so
in the end, but it's gonnabe back and forth. I think JJ
stays clean, has a great game. The Michigan offensive line is gonna you
know, the Alabama d line wasgreat in the end of the season.
(32:50):
I think that Michigan offensive line canbe a difference. I think you're gonna
have another big game, you know, for the way that the Wolverines offense
has been playing much of the year, averaging in the high thirty times.
I think this is a Wolverine team. It's about to go to a national
title game for the first time sinceI was in the Rose Bowl in nineteen
ninety seven as a junior watching thebeat Ryan Leath in Washington State. I
have Michigan winning this game thirty fourto twenty three. So they're going to
(33:16):
their campaigns and I have as well. The trips in book for a hundred
three hundred dollars did it back inOctober because I'm a genius and I know
it's a little sacrilegious to pre bookstuff, but I don't care, and
I'm all set to go, allset to go to Houston. All right,
Dan, thank you so much.Happy healthy New Year to Dan Leech
to Zach Happy, happy, happy, stay safe. Thanks for being here,
