I consider her the OG of DetroitSports. Ah, give it up for

(01:32):
Jennifer Hammond, a Fox too.I let to clap for myself since there's
only three of us in here. No, you could clap because I'm so
excited that you are guest hosting thisthe same old podcast. I really appreciate,
I really do. I'm just notsaying that. You know, I
just follow I followed her career. We're the same age, but I just

(01:53):
uh, we're smart, experienced withLet's just leave it at that. Yeah,
I will tell you something that Iwas so when you guys invited me
on, and what I really lovedabout it was a the name sop,
same old podcast. Way to makefun of us in Detroit and everything about
the Lions and number two you gotto get Jim Mora in there. Oh,

(02:14):
yas, playoffs, don't talk aboutplayoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?
I just hope we can win agame. Oh my God, that
missed one of the all time greatestcoach quotes. And on the anniversary of
his great proclamation, I actually wrotein the elevator with him, and I
can't remember if it was New Orleans, a game somewhere, and I wrote

(02:38):
down in the elevator with him thismorning that morning, and I was at
the hotel and I was like, just I wanted to say something so badly.
I finally get to the bottom wayup and up I said, I
love you, coach, and he'slike thanks. It was great. And
that was the day they did boththe special playoffs. Totally forgot about that
because we hope these lions hang onand get into the playoffs, and they

(02:59):
got a host a game. Ithink if they continue, well we'll get
into that bit there. First,I have to tell this story that happened
with you and I long ago inthe Tigers clubhouse two thousand and two,
long ago. Yeah, Jeff Weaverwas pitching and he had to no hitterr
going into the bottom of the eighth, right, yep, into the eighth,

(03:20):
two outs in the eighth. Soof course everyone in their uncle now
heads to Komerica. We call ita scrum. A scrum. So we're
in the clubhouse. Wea were sittingin his chair, and every reporter in
the city's there because he had toknow hit her going crazy. Jennifer is
on one side and I am directlyacross from her right and then all of

(03:42):
a sudden, I see her kindof I don't know who she's telling to
move. I'm like, I dothis thing with my head when I see
photographers, When I see people gettingin the way of my photographers shot,
I always am like, you know, so this little nudge move with my
head kind of tell people to right, so get the hell out of the
way. And I think, ye, she was telling that to me,

(04:05):
but I didn't realize her photographer wasliterally up my ass. He was literally
basically I was basically giving him apiggyback because he said his camera on my
shoulder. He was using Ronda asa tripod. I was this tripod.
Well, then the lens was righton her shoulder. I didn't know it

(04:28):
until I look and him, like, oh my god, he's right on
top of me. I wonder ifit was Jim Kleell, Like, I
just can't remember. That's what thetribes been crazy. I cannot remember who
was because a lot of the shootersat Fox to you, I've been there
since ninety seven. I've been therea hell of a long time, and
a lot of the dudes there arealso the ops, the old photographers,
I mean, they have been there, most of them. And all of

(04:48):
a sudden, I could not stoplaughing. I mean I was, yeah,
we were. I don't leave thescrum. I had to tell him
to back on. Weaver was sucha bitchy little foh he was. He
was pissed because he thought we wereyoung. And I had to explain to
him, you don't understand. Thephotographer was literally up my back and that's

(05:10):
what I was laughing, like Ihad like he was he was goosing me.
But it was so funny. Andthen when you said you would come
on the podcast, I'm like,we have to tell that story. And
I'd laugh every time I think aboutit because it was so I could not
see lots of good stories. Imean, we we we somewhat crossed paths
in Chicago when I was there,I think, I'm shadow traffic and then

(05:31):
tire right, and then you movedhere, and then I stayed and then
I came back. Yeah, MikeAdams told me the infamous story of don't
be like the reporter that sent mea shoe and said she wanted to get
her foot in the door. AndI'm like, wow, that's actually quite
brilliant. Well, I would docrazy stuff to get a job, to
get noticed. And I sent ashoe and I sent a phone and I

(05:54):
did that when somebody didn't call meback, I sent a real phone and
said, here's hoping you return aphone call. That's a good thing.
You know, those are some goodmoves because I needed a move like that
in the late eighties when I firstwent to Chicago and I kind of did
the walking Michigan Avenue with a cassettetape and a resume in my hands,
Like you know, I was rightout of Western and I wanted to work

(06:14):
in radio so badly, and Iwas born in Chicago and that was the
place I wanted to get launched. So I was walking through the streets and
I one program director that day saidhe would see me and give me time,
and literally he sat me down andhe's like, I've got four words
for you, and I'm like, okay, God, this is great.
Someone wants to talk to me,and he's like, go back to Kalamazoo.
Oh my god, that's just areal BS move. Ye. So

(06:39):
anyway, so I walked outside andI was like, boy, I can
either let this guy break my spiritor he will just embolden me. And
I chose the latter, and cometo find out, like ten years later,
no no no, Five years later, no no no, I was
hired by the radio station where heworked. That is so great. I
did news, I did traffic news. I was a sidekick, but I

(07:00):
did the same thing. I didtraffic because I needed to get into sports.
But you do what you need todo in this business. Well,
especially when we started out because womenweren't there weren't a lot of women in
sports. Now, all those crazythings that I did landed me on the
Joan Rivers Show. That's great, though, See you know what, and
look at where we are today, still working in the business, doing what
we want to do. And thatis always my tail. My advice to

(07:24):
young Yeah, young females, don'tgive up and don't let anybody else tell
you know or define who you are. And I can remember when I first
started doing the Lions pregame show wayback in the day with Mark Wilson.
It was before Dan Miller was intown. Even it was with Mark Wilson,
Eric Hipple, Tom Kowalski and Kowalskiyou know, he's he's about as

(07:44):
he was, about as subtle asa chainsaw, and so this guy would
come after me and I would getreally upset after shows. I'd be like,
God, my opinions are so dumb, and I'm like, no,
that's just what people do in sports. They steamroll you, and you got
to have the chops to stand upto it. Because everybody's got an opinion.
Everybody's opinion is different, and itdoesn't mean yours is wrong. So

(08:05):
exactly, that's what my advice is. Two cents here today. Well,
and I appreciate that, and Iappreciate Jennifer Hammond being on the same old
podcast. I love this. Okay, I'm sorry, but we do have
to talk about the Lions and ofthe Lions sloppy, sloppy game on Thanksgiving.
You know what, there was nogravy in the press box for that
Thanksgiving meal. What Yeah, SoI think that was kind of foreshadowing of

(08:26):
the day. Something was missing, something that completed the meal. How could
you not have something that completed thegame pass protection defense. I don't know,
isn't that crazy? No gravy? What turk? Did they have turkey?
They had turkey without stuffing because theyusually have a potatoes. I got
beans, grease, potatoes, tomatoes, lamb ramp halt adult turkey, stuffing,

(08:50):
potatoes, corn, you know, all the stuff, all the accouterments,
and cranberries. Love the cranberries sounderrated. No gravy and I was
like, what, I guess youwere foreshadowing, right, slot that's sloppy
not to have gravy. And who'sbeen sloppy is Jared go jg Now I

(09:16):
gotta say, I don't know ifyou know this about him, but he's
got to say meet on the bones, which should be there's still more meat
on the boat. That's a greatyou know what we gotta get. I
would like to get one of thosemade and wear it on the pregame show.
Meet on the boat. I'm gonnaget it made. I have a
for does Okay, there was anotherone too that I wanted to I wore
one on Thanksgiving Day that said thisis our year, motor City. And

(09:37):
it took me a while to youknow, kind of get the stones to
wear that, to pull that outand wear it on TV. And I
was like, you know what, because I try not to be too much
of a homer. I like tobe a respected journalist who keeps it down
the middle. With this team.I don't get too high. I don't
get too low. Like people alwaysare like, oh my god, are
you having the best year? AndI'm like, yeah, I'm having a
great year. It's because people willtalk to us now. We used to

(09:58):
go in that room and people didnot want to talk to us, you
know, last year when they wereone and six or even you know,
oh God forbid the own sixteen season. Why do you think the because you've
covered this team forever the Owen sixteenninety four, right, and so you've
covered playoff teams Lions teams before. So why the hype now and not for

(10:20):
those teams? God, that's agreat question. And it's funny because Mike
O'Hara, who is literally the deanof Detroit Lions media, he has covered
this team since like we always saythe forties, you know, in that
one, but it's it's been aminute, We've we've kind of gone through
this. Was there another team thathad this much hype and there really hasn't

(10:43):
been why because they've had great offenses. Ninety five they had a great offense,
but they didn't have the defense togo with it. I think that's
been the key for most of thoseplayers. Yeah, twenty fourteen, now
twenty fourteen. That was twenty fourteen. I mean Nick Fairley being Domicansou they
had a really they had a reallynice front seven. They had a really

(11:05):
nice front seven. Well, Staffordwas a good quarterback, but boy he
was prone to big mistakes in themost important moments. And also they had
a lot of injuries as well.I don't think their offensive line was nearly
as good. And I think thatthe reason that this year feels different and
people have such high expectations that arevalidated is because of the way they finished
last season. Because you've got twoguys running the show that know what the

(11:30):
hell they're doing finally in Brad Holmesand Dan Campbella and Sheila. Let's give
Sheila full props. She's always theone that I start with because she's incredible.
Finally listening to she just got inthere. No, I understand that
they brought in the people that areguiding her in the right direction, whereas
I think, oh, i ethe Spielman's yes and yes she did have

(11:52):
that ye, and I think shewas football minds there at football minds and
the accountants. No, there aren'tbankers and advisors. I mean, I
watching that Bye by Barry documentary,I look back at Chuck Schmitt and I'm
like, he was a nice guy. Don't get me wrong, Chuck Schmitt
was a nice guy. But theold man kept his friends in these positions

(12:13):
were wrong, yeah, wrong peoplein wrong places. Exactly. You're listening
to the same old podcast. I'mRon de Moss with iHeart Sports Network along
with Jennifer Hammond of Fox two.Brought to you by Victory Lane, Quick
Oil Change. Okay, so gettingback to Jared Goff and I've heard this
Jennifer, and you'll probably disagree thatthe people are writing, oh, he's

(12:37):
the Jared Goff of the Rams, the old Jared Goff of the Rams.
With six turnovers. He had abad week. Six turnovers in one week,
three picks against the Bears, threefumbles lost against the Packers. And
by the way, the Lions neverlet in that game. And it was
to me it was strange watching that, like, hello, when are they
gonna because that offense is so goodand when are they going to pick it

(13:01):
up? And when are they gotyou know, but they couldn't come back
like they did against the Bears onein five, one for five on fourth
down, and that fake punt wasthat was a tough one. That was
a tough one, and it cameat a time when the defense had just
made a big stop. I disagreedwith it to a certain extent, but
there's something about, you know, the Campbell gamble that you kind of think,

(13:22):
okay, maybe, but let's justlet's give full credit to the Packers.
So they came to play and theyhad payback on their minds and they
had a healthy Reshuan Gary and Imean no picks and it was just lightning.
It was. It was his bestgame of the season. He was
incredible. And here is the thingabout what the Lions have done. So

(13:43):
they have really started to struggle andwe should have seen the writing on the
wall, you know, maybe againstthe Chargers, but the offense kept on
rolling and they were able to comeup with you know, this magic.
The thing about Jared Goff is thatwhen he's comfortable in the pocket like most
quarterbacks. You know, he's apocket guy. Yeah, and when he's
comfortable in the pocket, he's goingto deliver a laser. He is going

(14:05):
to guide you down there. Hewas fantastic. I mean, yes,
he had the turnovers in Chicago againstChicago, but the greatest thing about what
Jared Goff did in that game,in my mind, was come back from
it. He made some huge errors, terribly terribly thrown balls, but he
came back from it and guided themto the wins. So that was kind
of a hang on by the skinnierteeth. He did something great, great

(14:26):
defensive play by Hutch at the end, so they locked it up. But
there were signs that there were somecracks, and a lot of it has
been with the absence of Jonah Jackson. He has now missed i think three
he missed three games with the ankles. He's going to came back for a
game and now he's missed two witha wrist and he's going to miss another
one. He's not playing in NewOrleans Alex Angeloni, which he said,

(14:48):
well, we'll get to as well. But with the without the protection on
the offensive lineup front, and whatthe Packers did was really smart. They
took away the run. Yeah, they took away the run, and Goff
started to get I don't like tocall it happy feet, but he just
got uncomfortable. And you can definitelysee when a quarterback is uncomfortable and he's

(15:09):
not super mobile, and Jared Goffwill be the first guy to cop to
that he's not super mobile. He'snot going to run away from a lot
of defenders in a lot of situations. Also, he's got to start to
feel the pressure a little bit more, because there are times when I'm like,
oh my god, I felt thatguy coming. You know, how
does he not feel it? Butwhen you're looking downfield for somebody, you
don't know what's going on behind you. Some of those you know, and

(15:30):
GoF is one of those passers.Do I want to trade him away now?
Hell no? And I think he'sfantastic either. I'm sorry. I
know we have Teddy Bridgewater and HendonHooker is supposed to but that's just because
that's the next step in his progression. Right. People need to not read
into that Hendon Hooker thing too muchbecause in Detroit we like to do that.

(15:50):
I guess everywhere but you know what, every and I just read this
article. I think it was lastnight. Justin Rogers from the Detroit News
wrote an incredible column about he's thebeat writer and he does an excellent job.
All the beat writers are really gettingDetroit for the Lions. And he
wrote the story about how when Dayand Campbell on Monday said, you know
what, all good teams go throughthese pits, ebs and flows, and

(16:15):
Justin, of course, being thewise man, he has said, you
know what, is that true? And so he went back through all the
way the last three seasons. Teamswith ten wins or more in all of
those seasons, and almost everyone haddips, had either a blowout loss,
had back to back losses. Youknow, had a lot of unfortunate loss

(16:36):
to crappy teams, had a lotof things happen. It's part of what
goes on in the NFL. Youget teams and now the Lions. This
is the big thing that Goff hasbeen saying, we want to stay the
hunters because now it's starting that they'rebecoming they get hunted. I'm going to
say I like it. You knowwhat, I like to live by mantras.
You know, ten percent of lifeis what happens to you. Ninety

(17:00):
percent is how you react. That'sone of my favorite ones that my mom
always used to say. And that'sexactly what the lions have got to be
living by and they've got to continueto be the hunters. Well, you
know, it's funny because Jared Goffwas asked about his why what's the rhyme
or reason for the turnovers? Sometimesthere is an answer, Sometimes there isn't.

(17:21):
I love that. I love it. Sometimes there's that two seconds second
it's again, I want to hearit again. Sometimes there is an answer,
Sometimes there isn't. All right, you know what I take away from
that his voice, his voice neverchanges, he just he just is even.
Now you call it monotone, Icall it even, and that is
hambals or. No, they don'tget too high, they don't get too

(17:45):
low. They weren't getting too highand caught up in the winning. But
I will say, but I gotto interrupted. But I do like this,
and I do like the answer onlybecause he's not making an excuse.
So I don't know. Absolutely itagain just one more time, so I
could one more time. Sometimes thereis an answer, Sometimes there isn't.
I like it. There's just notan answer, or I just get a
recording of that and carry it inmy pocket. And like when my kids

(18:07):
ask me for money, I'll belike, no, we'll send it and
they'll be like why, and I'llbe like, sometimes there is an answer,
sometimes there isn't. There no nomoney for you today, kids.
And at first I'm like, Okay, well that's just a cop out,
and then I'm thinking, no,he's not giving you an excuse where most
would give you an excuse of whyhe had three picks and three fumbles lost.

(18:30):
He did it well, and acouple of them weren't even really his
fault. But he's not gonna throwHe's not gonna throw under the bus.
He's not gonna throw his line underthe bus. And guess what, Like
we were just saying ebbs and flowshappen in an NFL season, they weren't
gonna go fifteen and two people. No calm. But I think I read
relax right, let's go to AaronRodgers. Relax. Don't be okay,

(18:53):
relaxed to me. I hired AaronRodgers. You know he's my fath Well,
I love him too. I thinkwe're two of the few people in
Detroit actually can't stand him, andI think he's incredible. Oh I love
him, and my friends if theyever see him, they go, oh
my god, I just saw Iheard Aaron Rodgers on because that's what I
call him. I heard Aaron Rodgers. Yes, falling in line with my
heart. Maybe he should be onyour podcast. He should pay him a

(19:15):
million dollars. But I think whatthe fans maybe getting a little nervous about
is the defense, which seems whichlooks like the last five games, reverting
back to the beginning of twenty twentytwo. Hey, it's a legit concern.
They've got to find a way tobe better. And I mean guys
like Jerry Jacobs will be the firstone to tell you he had a really

(19:37):
solid He had a tough start, had a tough day against Seattle, bounced
back really well against I believe itwas Atlanta and Green Bay when he had
three picks in two games. Yeah, and now they picked man. Did
Jordan Love pick on him? Imean he picked on him. And this
is the time again, the wholesecondary. Yeah, this is this is
the time of year when the rubbermeets the road. December football and guess

(20:00):
what Sunday in New Orleans it isDecember, and they get their act together
because they have got to tighten itup. But the same thing that we've
been saying all along is guys onthe back end look better when the front
end is doing its job. Guyson the front end look better when the
guys on the back end are doingtheir job and the defense. So the
one thing that I really really amstill a little bit chapped about is the

(20:23):
fact that at the trade deadline theydid not get chased me. I just
Donovan People's Jones. All respect toyou, my man, but no,
he is not going to change thisteam or be a difference maker. They
needed someone up front. And Iwonder if in one of his private moments,
if you could ever get Brad Holmesand Dan Campbell to say, yeah,

(20:44):
maybe we should. They won't.They don't live in that realm.
They live in the weird. Youknow, you dance with the girl you
brought. Hey, we're going totalk about that, right but anyway,
So it just they've got to finda way to get the pieces they have
better. And they've had decent bounceback games and again New Orleans mediocre record
but they're pretty pissed off. They'recoming off an embarrassing loss to the Falcons.

(21:11):
You know, talk about a teamthat's unable to score, but they've
got a great secondary. Yeah, fourteen picks getting to the Saints. That's
they're heading to the Are you goingto New Orleans? I'm going to No
Orleans? Say it properly, pleaseNew Orleans, No Orleans, naw early
or Are you not to have alittle fun? So it's funny. We
are booked on because flights these daysare astronomical, So we're booked on a

(21:36):
Southwest Airlines connector through BNA, whichis Nashville. I believe we leave Detroit
around eleven something. We get thereat four, so Saturday on Saturday,
so you get to Oh, I'mgonna have a little Cajun food. I'm
gonna have a little Lilimontan. Areyou going to have pearls or beads thrown
to you? No, that wouldrequire me to lash somebody do it.

(21:57):
Oh, I'm not going to getthat drunken on Bourbon Street that night.
I was a Super Bowl time.Oh, I was there for a Super
Bowl. It must have been ninetyfive or ninety five Oh my god,
how crazy did you get it?It was insanity? And actually went to
a concert a friend of mine workedfor Uh it was when Rupert Murdoch's company

(22:19):
was he had he was diversified intolike advertising and all of these other things.
And I'm blanking on what the nameof the company was. And she
worked in sales for them. Andwe went to this concert and it was
Eric Clapton and god who was withhim, like one of those you know,
great like southern New Orleans, youknow, Neville or somebody. And

(22:40):
it was just we were in heaven. It was so cool. New Orleans
is such a soul I've never been. You gotta go. It's a soul,
have you been, Zach? Soulfulcity. The people are incredible,
the food is amazing, the musicjust that whole creole vibe. I love,
like I loved when New Orleans wonthe Super Bowl because that city deserved

(23:03):
it, especially after Katrina all thatwent on. Drew Brees, if you're
talking about former players, one ofthe nicest guys in football, Yeah,
he really is. You got thatright, And this is you know what,
this is kind of a little bitof a homecoming for Campbell. Oh
yeah, because he played there andhe and coach there right, and Angeloney,
well Angeloney played there, and he'sof alex anzelonely linebacker was hurt last

(23:27):
week Risks, so he's got andit's not just one game because when Dan
Campbell says he's going to be downa bit, yeah, that means two
or three. And he's their bestdefense. He's been their best defensive player.
He's he's playing around the field. He's played ninety eight percent of the
defensive snaps. He has a teamhigh eighty seven tackles, fifty eight solo,

(23:49):
leads the team. Who's going topick the sacks? Who's picking up
the slack? Well, this isa problem. They're going to have to
get the rookie in there. Campbell'sgoing to have to do Jack Campbell's gonna
have to no, and alex Anzeloniis great and coverage and guess what New
Orleans they love a tight end.Yeah, you know, right. So
New Orleans has some injuries with theirwide receivers. Olave has a concussion,

(24:14):
and they do they have a bunchof guys Oki Rashid. But guess what
I'm not gonna do. Guess whatI'm not gonna do. I'm not gonna
I'm not gonna count out who's outfor them, because I did that before
the Packers game when they had seventeenguys on their injury on Monday, they
had five guys questionable. They weredown to their plumber three running back.
Actually they didn't a lot of themdidn't. And Dylan well, Dylan was

(24:37):
questionable, but he played. Buthe killed them like they got killed.
Well, I'm just talking these Idon't know if they're gonna play. They
got hurt in the game against theFalcons. But yeah, the Saints and
their head coach Dennis Allan, AmI getting that right? Yeah? Da
was pissed after the game, andthat's why you're gonna You're going into New
Orleans and getting a pissed Saints tim. Yeah. And that's a loud place

(25:02):
to play. Jared Goff said hewent there in I think it was twenty
eighteen in the NFC Championship game toplay the Saints when he was with the
Rams, and he said it wasthe loudest building he's ever been in.
Well, it is. It's crazythere. Yeah, the acoustics are insanity.
I know it's crazy. You're listeningto the same old podcast. I'm

(25:23):
ron toa Moss with iHeart Sports Networkalong with Jennifer Hammond from Fox to Sports
sponsored by Victory Lane Quick Oil Change. Hey, we have a pregame show.
Can I plug that? Sure?So we do a pregame show every
Sunday at ten am before the gameand we'll be live on the field from
New Orale. Besides yourself, DanMe, Dan Miller, TJ Lang,

(25:47):
John Neo, and Danny Rodgers comeson for a segment, and which is
a blast. It's so much fun, Like we have a lot of fun,
and I'm so happy for Dan Miller. I mean, I don't know
if anybody saw again here, I'mgiving like Justin Justin ro is not paying
me for this disappearance. By theway he wrote, he wrote a great
I know. So my dad askedme about dad. He has about everybody

(26:11):
and he goes and the one thingmy dad does he listen to the podcast.
He's technologically stupid, and I meanthat nice. Doesn't his nice daughter
go over there and set it upfor him and go, hey, Dad,
listen to what I'm doing. He'sin Florida anyway, smart man,
right, But the thing He'll askme. He goes, it was such
a nice article. Is he anice man? And I'm like, yeah,

(26:33):
he's very nice. Is he nice? Like that's I've talked about.
That's the most. That's what everyperson asked me. Are they nice?
Yeah? Sometimes I have to letthem know the truth. And others I
who's the last person you told yourdad wasn't nice? Uh? Justin Verlander,
that's a good one. That's agreat one. As a matter of

(26:55):
fact. Well, anybody that askedme if they say, oh, you
covered the Tiger, yeah, blahblah blah, what this is back in
the day, Justin, I'm like, nope, No, they always ask
about players. It's funny because Isermanwho I absolutely love him as am great
guy. He is. He isso good to me. He's always been
very good to me. But I'lltell you he was prickly as a player.

(27:18):
And he'll be the first one totell you couldn't stand the media,
you guys in your dumb questions. He'd look at you and go, that's
a dumb question. Why are youasking me a dumb question? And I'd
be like, but it was.It was outstanding the way he operated And
I always thought. People would askme about him, and I'm like,
you know what, Steve is thebest because he just doesn't know fucks to
give about other things other than histeam and winning right and the fun.

(27:42):
And that's what I said about him. And same with Oh, Bobby Higginson.
He was always an it's not goodenough to even mention in the same
sentences, what are you doing?Rod just ruined that thought. I'm not
to get marrying the two, ButI'm saying in terms of people think that
they're assholes. You know what Imean our media, because he was an

(28:03):
asshole to people, Bobby Higginson, but he was always nice to me,
which was you know what I mean, Like, I'm not comparing the jew
Eiserman Hall of Famer Higginson. Ithink he drives cars. Now, I
was gonna say farmer. I don'tknow what he does. Actually, I
like Bob. I like Bob alot. We haven't seen him in forever.

(28:23):
I think he doesn't he live here. Does he live here? I
don't know. I wonder if helistens to the podcast. If he does,
he can come on wow on thescript. You want to know what's
funny about Jennifer because she's she's uhlight, you know, looks everything's a
glass half full. Uh the bourbonglass, that is, yes, exactly.
But here's the funniest thing. So, the last time besides the Liones

(28:47):
that I saw her at a sportingevent, the Pistons were two and one.
Oh my god, that's right. That was going to bring them up.
But we were kind of excited aboutit. You were, you were
like, right, oh god, they're two and one. What was the
last time they were doing one?And I'm going wrong with me. It's
the beginning of the season. It'sthree games in. What are you people
doing? They go on and losefourteen straight. I'm sorry I had to

(29:08):
bring it up, just saying there'sa lot going wrong there. They need
a they need a leader, leaderexactly, but a team that is going
to make the playoffs. Hell, yes, Now, is it too early
to talk scenario? No, notat all. I mean I think people
were talking scenarios in week seven.Well what I find interesting is there not

(29:30):
in the playoff picture now right now? The Lions. No, no,
no, not Lions, but theRams. They could play the Lions.
They have a home playoff game.Wouldn't that be great? What does the
rest of the Rams schedule look like? Though? It's tough. Yeah,
I don't. I don't think theRams are going to be They're what five
and six right now? I thinkwhat was what did I hear that if
the if the season ends today, would it be the Rams are ninth?

(29:53):
Would it be the Vikings? Whowould they get if the season ends today?
Who's who's bring six? Six?Is the Seahawk? Thank you?
Look at Look at that, Zachthat you're an excellent producer. You're almost
as good as Greg Canner. Yeah, look at that. So that's a
tough. They've got the Ravens. They've got the raven They're at the Ravens,

(30:15):
They're at the Niners. It's notgonna happen, I know, but
it would be fine. Here's whatworries me in a playoff game Seattle.
Oh yeah, because they haven't beatenSeattle in how many years? Well?
Just how about just two most recentthat really stand out? Because it doesn't
matter how many years because remember wecan't talk about how many years ago because

(30:37):
these aren't the same old Lions.Lions, right, so these are the
now, the Lions that are newand improved and they've lost twice to Seattle.
Yeah, so they're concerning. Andhow about any mobile quarterback is concerning
especially you know, I understand thatyou have to respect the quarterback and play
a little bit of zone. Yep, zone's good, but the Lions have
like all of that up front. The Lions have one of the and it's

(31:00):
such a it's such a conundrum. They have one of the highest pressure rates
in the NFL, yet one ofthe lowest sack percentages or blitz percentages.
And it's just like it's got tobe, you know, hand in glove.
They've got to get more pressure, but then they've got to have guys
on the back end and in themiddle that can cover. And to your
point about missing Angeloni this week,he's so good in coverage this year and

(31:22):
that's that's going to be a problem. And also I think an issue defensively
is takeaways. They're like twenty sixin the league. Yeah, with only
twelve takeaways they sure that really isthe recipe. I mean for a lot
of teams, the plus minus marginis always going to be one of the
deciding ones. If you're turning itover at a rate of like three a

(31:44):
game, four, game the linesnow have seven turnovers the last two games.
I think ten in the last Inthe last four games, they have
ten like they started the season. And I had I had this incredible page
of notes that I was working onat Fox two Monday and Tuesday in advance
of tape being the podcast. Andof course I ran out of the station
last night after a long day ofJonathan Smith and he's Lansing and I left

(32:06):
my behind go Green. Yeah, okay, you know what, let's just
say I think they got it right. I trust Allen Haller. I'm so
wrong before anything is an upgrade, but living in the paste, anyone is
an upgrade. Look anyone, right, anyone is an upgrade necessarily, not
necessarily. We've seen a lot ofteams make mistakes multiple times in a row

(32:30):
with coaches. I know, butand I think that this is a good
hire for them. It'll be interesting. I mean, he's got to get
right to learn program because he builtOregon State. He really did. I
mean, he took him from whattow and ten to you know, eighteen
and seven over the last two seasons, back to back Bowl games. He's
he's definitely an authentic, no nonsenseguy and he's not into a lot of

(32:54):
coach speak, which I kind ofenjoy, you know. I like a
guy who's who's real, keep itreal. And if his players, if
he can get Childs, if hecan get those one of those quarterbacks from
Oregon States to come with him here, well, three the three scholarship quarterback
city at Michigan State have said they'regoing to the portal, which opens December

(33:15):
fourth, But if they if hebeing Smith, not John l the new
John Smith, if he can getif he can get any of his quarterbacks
from Oregon State to come and playhere. Chiles is the younger one,
Aidan Chiles, I believe is hisname. He's a good player. And
there was a kid that transferred whoI dju we just call him because I
can't pronounce his last name, buthe transferred from Clemson played for the Beavers.

(33:38):
And if he can get some reallynice pieces in his coaching staff and
a quarterback, because he's a guythat you know, most teams put a
high emphasis on a quarterback. Andif he can do that, I think
that Michigan State is going to becompetitive here in a couple of years,
and especially with let's talk about Imean the school down the road. If
Harball leaves, things could change angellittle they're gonna be without Blake Korum.

(34:00):
I I believe that jjl'll stick aroundanother year. I hope, you know,
I think he should. We'll see. But I do think that it's
going to be interesting. It's alwaysfun to see. I don't like too
much domination in any rivalry for anyperiod of time. Like people always ask
me, who do you root forbetween Michigan and Michigan State when they play

(34:22):
in basketball or football? Right,And I don't root for either one of
them. I just root for thebest story. Yeah, I went to
Western, I went to Oakland.I don't have a horse in the ring,
but nor should we be in themedia. But I but I laugh
at the rivalry because I find it'sso funny that the vitriol that goes back

(34:43):
and forth. It's funny to me, but it's it's like that everywhere.
My gosh, it's so cool. And I love that Jonathan Smith comes from
a place where they played the CivilWar. I mean talk about Oregon Oregon
State. I mean that's a greatrivalry and that's something that that's coveted in
these parts. Yeah, and it'simportant that they have a guy that respects
and honors and understands what it means. And the fact that, you know,

(35:07):
there are a lot of parallels betweenMichigan State and Oregon State, and
Oregon and Michigan, you know, the Big program Power five Perennial CFP team,
you know, beating down on theLittle Brother And it's great that we've
we've got the Little Brother guy herethat understands what that's all about. Yeah,
it'll be interesting. High again, anything is better than what they had.

(35:30):
Anyway, Getting back to the Allianceand Saints prediction do you do predictions?
I don't my picks. I've canI pooped down my leg with my
pixes here. Well, I'm goingto take New Orleans. I believe they're
getting four points. Producer Zach, can you get me that spread? Look
at him? See, young peopleare so fast with their technology. Jack

(35:52):
took a day to his reunion.Yeah, we got to talk about this,
Zach, just like a date,Like how many dates had you been
before you took her? KP.She works on the Mojo show. She's
beautiful, and that he took youknow, well, I'm gonna say that
probably gave you some street cred chuckyright see okay, wait, no,

(36:15):
this is a totally different thing. This is now a whole. When you
first told me this, Ronda, when I first walked in, like you
know, we're going to give hima little grief, he took a date
to So. I just had myfortieth high school reunion. Oh nice,
thank you, thank congrats that Ilived to be that all. No,
it's great, and I actually plannedit. You know, I'm one of

(36:36):
the organizers of the reunion for years. I've done that, and it's We
have a great class Birmingham cea homeclass of eighty three great people. Tons
showed up. But a lot ofpeople asked, so do we bring spouses?
And I said, you know what, people who want to have fun
typically don't bring their spouse. No. I had my reunion in the summer,
and nobody, unless they went tohigh school together, brought their spouse.

(36:58):
I agree with that philosoph you.I mean I when I was married,
I never took Brad with me toany of my reunions. But nor
did he want to go, andnor did I want to go to his
Losser reunion. He went to Loserand we just you know, you go
and you party with your friends andyou have a good old time and have
conversations. It's hard to keep introducing. But anyway, so KP though hot,
KP went with you. Yeah.So basically, I have a whole

(37:20):
bunch of friends that are married, and some of them are high school sweethearts.
I didn't want to go alone.I want to be a third wheel
at a reunion. Well, myex was going to be there too,
so I can, oh see, this was a hot This was a move
I know, and I'm sure KPis smart too. I feel like we're
disparaging or by just calling the houseso awes so an awesome cool chick,

(37:44):
awesome cool chick. So you takeawesome cool KP to the reunion and how'd
that go? I bet you hada blast? Oh best time. I
did feel bad because I've never beento a bar where I've known everyone.
Yeah, so I was like, isn't it? I was very overwhelmed,
And then a D kicks and doesn'tit? Oh? For real? And
then I told her. I toldher to go home like an hour before

(38:06):
I left, because I was like, you know, and she was probably
like she was over it. I'msure, but obviously. I was thinking
maybe she could meet like some dudethere and be like she was trying to
and I told her, well, did she fix her up? Then it's
somebody she tried to. And thenI was like, I was like,
oh no, not that guy. That guy in high school was a player.
You can't do that. You can'tdo that. Are you going to

(38:28):
fix them up? No, she'sfine by herself. Friends, I actually
kissed a dude at your reunion,a former classmate. Were you really drunk?
No, not all that drunk.I mean there were a couple of
beverages involved. That's KP. Yeah. Was this car at your reunion?

(38:50):
Or? Does she work as anauto show model too? So we actually
mentioned it on the air and someonelet us take pictures. So with the
Corvette Corvette, that's you and KP. Yeah. Oh yeah, what a
darling couple you make. Wow.KP is smoking? Yeah, and look
how cute you look? You looklike Freddy Krueger picture Freddy Krueger. No,

(39:14):
this is epic. I gotta followyou. Is this Instagram that is
so funny? Does Casey know thatwe're going to go two hours on the
podcast? Is so familiar? Orending? It soon. Have you talked
enough Lions though? I think wehave because we got through the offense struggling
a little bit. Jared Goff,So you wanted my pick, he wanted

(39:34):
my pick. My prediction if JaredGoff again with the turnovers, hey on
Sunday, turnovers are a team statWell, if he's protected, excuses,
But anyway, you know how manytimes he was hit and hurried, okay,
rushed, hold on to the ball, you fumbled and you lost him
all three of them? Well hedoes. He does advance. He tries

(39:55):
to advance the ball with a barrydo that. He's working on it.
He's working on it in practice. How working on it this week? Talk
and protect, talk and run, talk and run. I mean, I
will say there are a lot oftimes that he does a very good job
of when he starts to get thepressure in his face, he'll roll out
and he'll throw it away out ofbounds. He's done. Okay, Well

(40:16):
he's got to do more of that, and then the defense needs to step
it up. Get to Dare andI think let's make him comfortable on offense.
Let's run some plays where you knowa little more of the boot.
I love the stuff when he rollsout. I love the stuff when they
get outside play action, Yeah,a little more play act, well,

(40:37):
play action, and also just youknow, a little bootleg, little bootleg.
Okay, here's the thing. Youknow, how like at the beginning,
it was we have to come outfast in the third court, you
know, after half. I thinkthey have to come out fast in this
game just to start first. Yeah. Well, here's what they can't do.
They cannot allow the New Orleans offense, which is very subpar, and

(40:59):
to come out and march right downthe field on the opening drive. They
gay opening drives a lot. Ithink they've rushed for. What did they
rush for? I mean it waswell, no, I think the Falcons
rushed for like two hundred and twentyeight yards. Oh, they broiled two
and twenty five yards of the ground. It was ridiculous. They gave up
a shit ton of rushing yards, which is great. So then maybe the

(41:21):
Lions can do that. But I'msure they're fortifying what they did wrong.
One thing we haven't even mentioned isnumber nine. And let me tell you,
I love the trust that is developingJamo And you know, he's my
favorite, He's my favorite. Ifind him quirky. It is that based
on I quirky. I find himquirky. He's a watch those videos late

(41:44):
night when he starts going live onI G. I don't watch. I
did watch one weird one when hewas in the garage giving his dogs a
bath with a like a power pressurehose. I don't watch. But I
find him quirky and a good weirdo. You know what I mean. He
is, He's just I can embracethe good weird weirdo affection. I feel

(42:05):
like you could say, like,I feel like whatever, do you know
what I mean? But and Ithink he is working harder, and I
think they're trusting him more because he'spicking up blocks. Hey, and he
has stayed engaged in the in thegeneration of Diva receivers, which goes back
to the eighties. I mean likereceiver, the receiver position. It's just

(42:30):
something about it. Man, it'slook at me, give me the ball.
And he has never been like thatfor a minute. When he wasn't
getting when they weren't giving him anyrun, when he wasn't getting past his
thrown his way, when he washaving you know, drops and boost,
he never disengaged. He always hasbeen committed to getting better, staying on

(42:52):
task, like you said, blockingdownfield, doing the things that he needs
to do to earn his playing timebecause this is a team where it's a
team and be earn it. Thatreception a last week, I'm like,
it was fantastic. He is sofast. He's so fast, and that's
I think the problem because he outruns. Yeah, Like sometimes I'll just I'll

(43:13):
just watch like one guy for likethree or four plays in a row,
which is kind of weird because you'rejust watching one guy and everything he's doing
in multiple multiple plays. And Jamo'sone of the guys that I watched last
week and he just always gets separation. He is always open, I don't
know if he's exactly always where he'ssupposed to be. Is incredible, and

(43:37):
JG is starting to trust him moreand that is something that has to be
built. And kudos to Golf forfor being patient. He's got a lot
of rookies around him and he's givingthem opportunities. And I consider Jamo to
still be this is essentially his rookieseason because he has not yet played sixteen
games, so you know, he'sstill essentially in his rookie year. But
my god, Laporta, you know, they've They've got Gibbs, They've got

(43:59):
a lot going on on offense. And that's the thing I think that's most
concerning about the last two games isthat the offense has struggled. Well,
I think the offense back, butI think the offensive line two has struggled.
It all starts there, and Ithink they've had eleven different combinations,
right, I think they've had thestarting line together once once, Yeah,
a couple of weeks ago season.Yeah, it was three games ago when

(44:22):
Jonah was back. And so thatjust a gives you an idea and an
indication of how important Jonah Jackson isto that line. Yeah, and be
just how important being fundamentally sound inthe trenches is, especially for this offense
and for a quarterback like Golf whois not a mobile quarterback. Absolutely absolutely,

(44:43):
Jennifer haven't hey if they lose thisweekend though, see I got these
Jordan's, I'm gonna have to drinkbourbon out of it. Yeah. I
did like this little shoot the bootprediction with some other people that I do
a little radio show with, andI said, no way, Lions are
going to lose two in a rowthis season. I think I said that
after the Chargers game and I'm gettinga look good luck for well. I
