am proud to introduce we have aguest. Woo, Dan Leitch. Good

(01:32):
day, fine citizen. It's greatto be here. It really is very
appreciate you coming in and doing thepodcast. But before you know, we
gotta talk Lions. They escape NewOrleans with a win, and we'll get
to that. But first, youand Zach have something in common. Not
only do we have something in commonby being amazing human beings, but we

(01:53):
also were at the Jiggle All theWay Box. I gotta tell you,
you know, I had never beento that before. That was my first
time changing and it was quite delightful. It was incredible. Listen. Flow
Ryder was right next to me,the sweaty mess of a body, and
he put on a hell of ashow. Jelly Roll was incredible. Usher

(02:13):
the super Bowl halftime performer. AndI gotta tell you, I've been to
a lot of concerts in my life, and I know that you know these
these special like you know jingle balltype shows bring out like a lot of
great artists and energy. There wassome of the best energy I've seen a
little Caesar are in a long time, right, and I mean with the
Pistons not doing that well it itbrought a different kind of that was like
five thousand times better than a Pistonsget come on man. Oh for seventeen

(02:38):
they played tonight, so they putBut I did see Rhonda. I saw
a very very cool old school pictureof Kelly Trapuca, Bill Amber and Isaiah
Thomas. I tweeted it out atDan HGTM on Twitter or x and like,
that's all we can do right now. That was when the Pistons had
a pulse, and obviously they didduring the bat you know, the rip

(02:59):
Hamilton and the going to work Pistonsare two, but seventeen in a row
and just no heartbeat. No,the fans are apathetic, apoplectic. It's
it's really sad right now. It'svery sad. Yeah it is, but
you know, oh for November, and they're now oh for December. You
know, the Lions, speaking ofthe same old podcast, have more wins

(03:20):
in the last calendar year than theDetroit Pistons that is so crazy. It's
ridiculous. It's the chance of thathappening for any NFL NBA team in the
same city is in the thousands.Yeah, it's the Pistons are quite pathetic.
But you want to hear something crazyI do is uh, I love
crazy stuff because I have a littlecrazy. You're a little nutty in a

(03:42):
good way. It's crazy. Yes, my parents, I say it's in
a good way, but it's stillnot so am I I'm a little crazy
and that's okay. But I rememberback and it seems like last season that
they were two and one and everyonewas like, oh, they're two and
one for the first and I'm thinkingwe talked about this. It's the three
games in two games exactly, andthen from then on the quarter polls over.

(04:05):
I mean, who goes over inthe month of November? Oh,
I know? Is that? Wait? Lions did oh for sixteen? Yeah,
that's different, that's you know,four games different. Well, it's
different because I guess you're right ifyou're comparing like four games in a month,
it's like, you know, sixteento twenty whatever games. But for
me, and I've been listen,my first love in sports and you know,

(04:26):
going way back to what I wasa little tiny DTM squatch was the
lines and the Wolverines football teams. But I fell in love with sports with
the bad boy Pistons. I wasten, eleven, twelve. My dad
luckily, yeah, dad, seasontickets. You were covering them during one
of the great You're not over thanme, You're like thirty, How are
you? How are you covering thebad Boys? Well? I was young.

(04:46):
I was young. Yes, you'rejust starting you still are young.
But I got to go see Jordanand the Bulls in the playoff games at
the Palace. I got to gosee the Lakers' final games and the Blazers'
final games and get the character shirtDunham's the next day. It was just
an incredible time to be alive, but incredible time to be a Pistons fan.
And those great years with Rip Hamiltonand Big Ben Wallace. They won

(05:10):
the title in four We love alot. It was great. But since
the end of that, at leastsix years of Eastern Conference Finals appearances,
this team has been just an afterthought. And how many years you got the
youngest team of the league twenty averageof twenty four years of person How long.
Is it going to take fifteen years? Is it that old Red Wigs
rebuilt twenty years now? Yeah?He can only be the youngest team so

(05:31):
many times. I mean, Ithink Body Williams could be a great coach.
But it's got to turn around.But you've got to add I don't
care how young you have to addveterans. Yeah, they're you know'less ship
right now exactly. But you know, speaking of the bad Boys and the
four team and Rashid Wallace and I'dlove him, I guaranteed you're awesome.

(05:53):
The excitement the Pistons had, thenit's the same excitement the Lions have now,
great segue. Yeah, right,So Lions went into New Orleans by
the way. By the way,the Saints they jinxed themselves because they came
out with this video before the gamemocking the Lions losses in New Orleans.

(06:16):
How stupid are you saying the Saintsdidn't go Marchigan? No? They well
no, because obviously the Lions jumpedout to a twenty one nothing lead,
and they got turnovers. They wonthe turnover battle. But here's my here's
my problem. Uh, where isthat killer instinct that we they need to

(06:36):
do, I said, I almostsaid, we I got to catch my
man be a big slap. Well, you are a slappy, You're a
Michigan slappy. But he is thehugest, like slappy of all Detroit teams.
And and that's okay. That's whyI'm beloved and ridiculed by something.
Whatever you say any who. Tome, it's like and I'm watching this

(06:59):
game, and I'm on the phoneand I'm like, oh god, this
game's over. And then I forgot. They have trouble coming out after the
half. Yeah, and and doingputting that gas on the gas, the
pedal on the pedal, Yeah, put on the pedal, and just you
know, choking them out to Idon't get it. Well, it's a
great listen. It's a great pointyou bring up. And by the way,

(07:20):
I was at a delightful Prehnica brunchbefore my dad went to He's lucky
that he going I own to SaintThomas. Thanks a lot, Dad.
No, he's the best. Hedeserves it. And we thought it was
over too. And in the Statesaren't a good team. But still,
it's a road game in the NFL. It's a place where the Lion's historically
if at a House of Horrors. But this is something that I think is
important. I know you've talked aboutthis a lot, and I know you

(07:41):
know you cover this team for along time, so you get this when
you go from absolute nonsense and beinga team that has no killer instinct and
no wherewithal and no confidence level tobring in Brad Sherlock Holmes and then bringing
in Dan Campbell, well, DanCampbell first, and then now you're in
you know, year two and ahalf, almost the full three years you

(08:03):
still had. You're not people thatthought this he was going to the Super
rowl this year, I think arenuts. You've got to walk before you
can run. And listen how manyLions teams run and that you've covered for
your you know, you've been allowedfor thirty years now, so you started
with you were ten. How manyteams that you've covered or that I've covered
in these past twenty thirty years wouldhave blown that game. You could see

(08:24):
it coming the movie from a byaway, all of them. How many
teams would this year, you know, in the past, would have blown
other games. The Bears game thisyear in Fortfield. We'll talk about the
Packers on Thanksgiving. So it's aprocess where I think the key for the
lines right now is obviously there's youknow, we can get into the issues
with their defense that are you know, the no pass pass rush that needs

(08:45):
to be worked on, and otherissues with the defense that you know,
there is a big problem now withand we'll get to it. But Ally
mc McNeill. McNeil is out,he's on ir for and he'll at least
four games, at least four games, and that's going to be a problem.
It is. But just to finishmy point, so you know,
you've got all this stuff that isworking to build to a crescendo, and

(09:07):
to me, the key is is, yeah, it's not always going to
be perfect. The NFL's era aleague of parody where you've got, you
know, thirty two teams that anyday could beat each other, even though
some of them really are bad.And you're seeing these great progressions by a
franchise that has had so few ofthem for many of our lifetimes. And

(09:28):
one last thing that I think ispeople are really starting to see more and
more of how about Lions fans takingover road stadiums. It is just it's
unbelievable. But I have to behonest, Lions were always their fans were
always good traveling. No, theywere, but not like that. But
I don't think it was acknowledged becausethey were bad. And now because they're

(09:50):
good, you're getting more of thoseShens traveling. But the Lions fans always
travel I agree, and different theylove the best fans of the country more.
I think even more trips are plannedbecause they're playing so well and you
want to be there. Uh,you know, nine and three, it's
their best twelve games start nineteen sixtytwo. You weren't even born yet,

(10:13):
No, I wasn't. We you'relike negative twenty at that point. So
yeah, So I think they've alwaysbeen a good fan traveling team. And
it was because my cousin was there, Jason, you know Jason, of
course, Jayweez. He sent mea picture of the stadium and it was
Honolulu bluid. But you know whatelse too, And you mentioned that I

(10:35):
obviously I am a Michigan fan slabwhatever you want to call me, and
I go to a lot of roadMichigans. You are a Michigan slap out
of all the sports, you area Michigan set. I'm proud get to
that and it's one of the youknow, this side. It was one
of the few sports that I haven'tI don't cover now, so I'm just
I'm gonna go wolvering myself up.I'll I'll paint my face maazing blue.
He's a paint he's a face painteronly for only for very very rare game.

(10:56):
He paint seck his belly. Yes, I'm sorry, it's kind of
offensive. No, I just gotto wear. This's the chain. I
lost forty pounds. We'm getting better. So by next Jome, we thank
you. Five miles a day. It's working and a lot of water,
but less monster energies. So withMichigan, you can tell there's like this.
You know, obviously the last fewyears they've gone to the playoff three

(11:16):
back to back to back times, and you can see Michigan fans travel great
too. You could see the specialfeeling on the road and it growing and
there are more people being there thanyou're used to. That seems to be
the way with the Lions to Ihave friends that literally just planned a trip.
Old friends of mine that went toWest Bloomfield High School that you know,
try to get together every few yearsto do something cool. They decided
to go to New Orleans, andI don't think that'll lot. I mean,

(11:39):
you're right, a lot of Lionsfans travel, but I feel like
there's just people know something specials happeningpart of it, and that's why they're
doing it. Let's be honest. This is the best chance, you know,
speaking of covering the lines, Iwas a young Eastern Michigan student and
I got credentials because Charlie Batch wasmy classmate covering the Barry Sanders air at
the Silver Dome. That was thelast time to me that there was truly

(12:01):
a special feeling in this town whereWow, the Lions could actually dare I
say it, knock on wood goto a Super Bowl someday. There Even
during Jim Schwartz and Jim Caldwell, you didn't have that. This is the
first time in a long time, right, you're listening to the same old
podcast. I'm Ron de Moss withiHeart Sports Network along with Dan Leech.

(12:24):
Dan you out promote promote yourself, all right, Well, I'm not a
shaveless self promoter. I happy tobe here up. Well, listen,
you know you can obviously follow meon social media. It's very your life
will be better by doing it atDan LEACHGTM. And I do have my
own sizzling pick site. I mean, people will see I've done this for
years. DTM Squatchpicks Dot Club thirtysix percent off in December good with promo

(12:46):
code Holiday Squatch No really quick.I love doing that. I've made picks
for years and I wanted to puta site together and people are enjoying it.
And it's something that I unfortunately starteddoing when I was in middle school,
playing too much ping pong for moneybefore school. But I've always known
lines and games and I have allwith it. So things a lot am
well podcasts sponsored by Victory Lane,Quick Oil Change. So okay, so
Lions, so they escape, asI said, a win over the Saints.

(13:09):
But Sam Laporta, man, thisrookie, he's a revelation. It's
it's quite impressive. He had whatdo he have? Nine catches for one
hundred and forty yards and a touchdown. Also got a crucial first down,
one of the crucial first downs toice the game right to run out the
clock. And you know, justDan Campbell, who used to play the

(13:33):
position, talks about Laporta after thegame. It's not easy to play this
position as a rookie and to doall that we're asking him to do,
because he does it all. It'sin the run game, it's protection and
then you see the pass production. That's what everybody sees, right, the
numbers separation, but nobody has reallyany true idea of all the other stuff
he does for us. And that'sa tight end sort a tight end does

(13:54):
and I'm glad he's ours. Hejust keeps growing. He doesn't say a
word, He just goes to work. He does. He just goes to
work and he's reliable. Which ifyou're a rookie and he got a quarterback
like Derek Goff, it was Ithink it was instant, right would you
say it was instant their their connection, I think it was. You know,

(14:15):
Ronno. We have both talked toLaporta in that Lions locker room and
he doesn't seem like a rookie tome. He seems like he has better.
I mean, maybe it's just theIowa think the corn obviously it's tight
end university. There is something. And he credits his head coach Kurt Ferrens.
Yes, and the way he developstight ends well Kurt Ferrence might have
been at Iowa for the last thirtyyears, have never really done anything,

(14:35):
but he's done a great job.He's done a great job ends, that's
for sure. But I've just beenin so speaking of giving away picks for
my website, I keep Laporta touchdownsout all the time and they always seem
to hit because that guy is therewhen he needs to be. And I'm
the rapport with Jared Goff. Tobe able to be so connected to a
quarterback as a rookie tight end,I mean exactly. You don't see rookie

(14:58):
tight ends. I mean, Iknow, I won't mention the one was
drafted really high here and didn't workout, But you don't see them drafted
it as high as you know someother players. Neptune, I think I
forgot his name? What yeah, yeah, Eric Ebron who I I think
he's on Melmack. I have tosay, Els Plannet. He was great

(15:18):
postgame interview because he just didn't knowwhen to stop talking. Yes, that's
why he was great. But anyway, Eric Ebron, Stafford, by the
way, hated him one and andthat's why he who did hate him?
Anyone tells you otherwise they're full ofcrack anyway. So it's just you you
look at the the synergy they haveand this is the This is what goes
back to the whole premise I've madesince we started this that this team,

(15:41):
this franchise, this sad sack, you know, Starcross franchise is building to
a crescendo to have long term viablecontention ability, which we've never really seen
maybe since Wayne FADD's the nineties wewent to the playoffs. Leaue was four
or five years. When you lookat at Brad Holmes identifying this guy and
drafting him where he did in thesecond round, and you know, this

(16:02):
guy the ways played this year.If it wasn't for CJ. Stroud to
be Rookie of the Year, that'sa guy that could have been drafted the
way as high as hocketson once.So I just it goes to the whole
thing that I have felt is beenbuilding. Holmes is identifying the town.
He's a college, you know, personnel guy, unlike Bob quinnho was a
pro personnel guy. Liones needed that. Dan Campbell is finding a way to
get these guys coached up. Itjust it seems to me like this is

(16:26):
really a time where if you're aLions fan, you're going to New Orleans
because you want to, you know, pump your chest for the first time
in twenty years. You're feeling goodabout it. Well, right, And
really they had to go into NewOrleans and get that win because of how
they played on Thanksgiving. They werejust absolutely And another reason why they did
as well as they did in thefirst half is Jarreck Goff didn't know no

(16:49):
fumbles, no picks, clean gamethree for two hundred and thirteen yards,
two touchdowns, and the Lions wonthe turnover battle resulted in touchdowns, and
that's one of the reasons why.And the defense played decent, you know,
I mean they did. They madebig plays where they needed to,

(17:10):
and so did the offense. Butagain they have like, for example,
the offensive line, could they everstay healthy enough this season to play all
together. Frank Ragnow suffered a kneeinjury and he is not playing Sunday in
Chicago against the Bears. And thenyou have Aleen McNeil, he's done for
four games. Alex Angeloni has achance there is a chance he's dealing was

(17:34):
dealing with a hand injury and hiswife had their second child. So yes,
but the see the defense worries memore than the offense, I gotta
say, because you know they're goinginto Chicago and they're playing at Soldier Field,
and Jared Goff does not do wellin outside you know, outside Soldier
Field, No exactly, and andthe Bears are pissed. I know what

(18:00):
happened. Lions came back. Theywere down scored twelve to get the win
in two like it was what fourminutes or too much? Well, the
Bears reverse Bears themselves. Remember afew years ago, the Bears had the
Lions had a ninety nine percent chanceof winning the game. The Bears came
back and be the Lions. Soit was like the reverse Bears game was
nuts, right, So but let'sput a bow on the Saints. Yes,
they won. They still have someissues coming out of the half.

(18:22):
They just start slow. What AndDan Campbell tried to explain it, but
I don't even think he knows why. No. Well, by the way,
two things, One, I haven'tdone the show with you before.
You have meticulous notes, very impressive. Think. Two, listen, I
think the reason Dan Campbell can't explainit because he doesn't know. And I
think that when you're listen this iswhat is it two years and twelve games.

(18:45):
It's not like this is a guythat has been coaching this team for
eight seasons. You are learning ason the fly as well about what you've
got to do to make adjustments.Obviously we know the guy is god Khon's
and the guy's aggressive and isn't scaredto go forward on fourth downs, which
can obviously be a great thing butalso can kill you at times. I
think he was more careful. Hewas way more careful to go forward at

(19:08):
the end of the game. Thefunniest thing when you're watching the Lions game
now and when when they punt,it's like then says, oh, watch
for a fake. It's like, always watch for a fake. Well,
they're going forward on fourth and two. But you know how good that is
in the future to think about it, right, And that's what teams have
to think about. But I alsothink teams are figuring it out. Yeah,

(19:30):
but if you always make it seemlike you're going for it, they're
never going to know what you're goingfor it. But but you figure it
out, sure, and you couldlike like, uh, the fake punt
awful. It was awful. Thatwas just a bad idea, right,
But obviously the Packers stopped it,And so that's my point. No,
but just to pick it up,because what I was saying is is,
listen, this is a team thatis going to continue to find who they

(19:55):
are through these very tricky emotional situationsin games like New Orleans. You mentioned
the Packers game. Obviously that wasthe other side of things. And I
think that because you asked, Ithink you asked a great question. You
know, why can't they come outand get things going right away? That
is something that it's almost like, you know, when I've talked about Dan
Campbell in the past, we knewI felt personally that Brad Holmes knew his

(20:19):
stuff right away. Dan Campbell oneof the great motivators we've ever seen.
Could Dan Campbell become a good ex'sand o's guy, because you can never
teach motivation skills, and that's whatthe good part was. But could he
get better at, you know, making in game decisions the way that a
lot of people gave Jim Caldwell.Probably he did have issues this first year,
But you know, I think peopleexcuse that because it was I think

(20:40):
he is and I think, yeah, I think, but he was a
head coach at in it's not hisown teams. It's a it's a show
pony thing. But you know he'sgetting better at that. And I think
that lives fans. You know,it'd be as you know, excited and
you know, upset about things,as you want to be. That's part
of being a fan. It's abeautiful thing about being a fan. But
understand that this team is working itsway to being one of the best teams

(21:03):
in the NFL, not just thisyear, not just next year, but
hopefully for a decade like Green Bayand Pittsburgh and Baltimore and other teams have
You know what I think that aLions should do. You know how when
in baseball you have a bullpen dayand you're starting from a half time day,
you know, but you know whatI mean, how like, what

(21:26):
was it a few years ago?Uh, pitchers? The guy that pitched
the ninth was pitching the first opener. Yeah, and I think maybe the
Lions should do that in the thirdquarter, you know what I mean,
Bring bring out headed hooker, letit play. That'd bring go back.
Yet, well, I don't meanthat, but I'm just saying it's like,
why is it that they come outfast? But again they didn't against

(21:51):
a Packer. See here's the thingI think. I think it's the way
the NFL is. Also teams makeadjustments. So why aren't the Lions making
those adjustments in the third quarter.Let's go back, how about the Raiders
give them to night football. Thelines, the Raiders are awful, and
the Lions could do anything in thefirst quarter and then obviously things they never
were in trouble in that game,No, but they had issues in the
red zone. They were like, what for five? They were going for

(22:12):
field goals and you're not going towin games against good teams hence the Bears,
and that's why they lost obviously, because they were going for field goals
instead a touchdown. But I thinkthat a lot of this Randa is just
that we we're at in the NFLand we look at the Packers in the
Chiefs game on Sunday Night Football. The Chiefs could do anything early on,
and then the Packers started struggling.I think that when you look at a

(22:36):
team like the Lines, which weI think we both agree is a good
team, they're not a great teamright now, but they're a very good
team. They're definitely worthy. Ithink the words solid, right, could
you use the word I think solid? Way better than average and better than
Azra too. Where do those guysgo? So there's definitely issues. I
mean, I mentioned the pass rush, I mentioned obviously you mentioned, you

(22:56):
know, coming out of halftime andhaving to figure out better adjustments. But
you look at the performance overall, and you look at the season overall through
these nine and you know, thesetwelve games, how can you not feel
good about where you're at as aLions fan right now? Our alliance team.
I mean, obviously, if're afan, you're excited to saying how
can I feel good about the team? Where they've been and where they're hopefully
going, and where they were threeyears ago? Matt Patricia was coaching this

(23:17):
team three and a half years ago. They were garbage sauce. Yeah,
I won't mention his name. Can'tbelieve I ever wore a shirt with his
you know, the first time Imet him was random. I was at
the Tiger's game and I know he'sthere, and I was wearing a Matt
Patricia shirt because he just got hiredand that's the first day I met him
wearing his own freaking shirt. Don'tI feel like an idiot? Gross?
Yeah you should, he was gross. You're listening to the same old podcast.

(23:37):
I'm Ron de Moss at Thigheart Sportsand Not Work along with Dan Leech.
The Fabulous Dan Lee was sponsored byVictory Lane Quick Oil Change. Now
I have kind of a different take. You're all about this team, solid,
good, They're gonna I was thinkingabout this the other day. Lions
were the talk of the town inthe off season, leading up to training

(24:03):
camp season, they were. Theywere the it team. You they were
the why I bet Dan call theyear? They were the it team question,
and as well they should because theystarted out strong. And but now
there's some bumps in the road andI think they're not as sixy as they
were at the beginning of the season. Now, yes, they're nine and

(24:25):
three point no no no, no, no, no no. But my
point is, you look at theEagles, you look at the Niners,
you look at the Cows. Arethe best team in the NFL. You
know what I'm saying. It's likenot that the that they don't believe in
the Lions. I'm just saying thereare some I think outsiders. I'm gonna

(24:48):
say outsiders look and say, yeah, they're going to win their division because
their division is got awful or bettervikings you know, bear suck, but
they got justin fields right, andso I just think that, uh,
with there's cracks. I think theLions have some cracks because one, they

(25:11):
didn't do anything to help that defenseat the trade deadline, and I think
they're going to I'm just saying theyjust didn't do anything to help the defensive
line. The back end of thedefense. They needed another pass rush guy.
Adon Hutchinson can't do it by himself. Aliam McNeil now is out,
Angelonei's hurt so and they are.Angeloni and McNeil were the two best defensive

(25:37):
players in Hutchinson. Well, nowtwo of the three are hurt and one's
out for the next four games. So I questioned that defense in the back
end of that defense really is buggingme. And and Jared Goff had issues
over six turnovers and so I'm nottrusting him as much either. This is

(25:57):
the reason why I mean, Iwhile you're a top line and I think
my points are valid, I'm notsaying they're they're going to host a playoff
game for the first time in forever. Y three, this is the reason
your top level was I'll give you, but I mean say and I'll tell
you where I pick up what you'resaying. I totally agree with that,
but realistic expectations. Remember what Isaid, I won't bring his name up

(26:21):
again snat Susnicia three years ago.Okay, three years ago. This team
went from you know, year oneand Campbell not good. Last year,
pretty bad start, and that thatgreat run at the end of the season,
and you know, you look atwhat they are doing now. It
is going to take like I'm nottrying to make excuses, but yes,

(26:41):
it's it's not even the end ofyear three. The people that thought I
have a lot of friends, Godbless their souls, because I'm a you
know all the big loved the sportsand believe in the dream, and you
know, I want to think thatthings can happen, even though they're probably
not going to it certain times. This team was never going need the super
Bowl this year. That never thegoal they were. But the oh,

(27:03):
I have way too many people, either both normal and crazy. People are
crazy. You know, some ofthem are even normal for the like where
are going with? An accomplishment isa winning their division, which they haven't
done in how long since nineteen ninetythree? And SHIRLEYE. Sharp still opened
them hosting a playoff game, whichthey haven't done nineteen ninety three and they
haven't won a playoff game since nineteenninety two, well any one season,

(27:23):
and I know because I was thereand that was the only one they once.
It's fifty seven. But let mejust say this, that's very emotional
for me to say. My gradaand dad grab went to the title game
in fifty seven, and I lovetelling the story. And my dad was
ten years old and it was aschool night, it was a Sunday night,
and my grad was like, sorry, Harold, you can't go.
Don't worry that we plenty more. And of course there you go. And

(27:44):
that's why my dad would let mego to Boud today football against the Bears
with refrigerator parodinety seven when I wasten. Thanks Dan, I love you
so Listen when you look at youknow where the team is right now and
the fact that there has been somany years of futility. Those people that
thought the goal this year always wasthis win the division, win at least

(28:07):
a playoff game. I'm not tryingto say that you can't have that wild
belief that maybe something crazy happens andthey you know, like when the Panthers
went to the super Bowl or theJags in the year two wins the AFC
title game. I get that,But wouldn't you rather the Lions build you
this crescendo and become a long termviable contender and be ready when they go
to the super Bowl to win it. I would rather go and lose it,
not go at all. I getthat even if a Buffalo Bills fan,

(28:30):
it'd be brutal a four years ina row and lose, But I'm
still happy I went. But forme, the Lions aren't as good as
Philly. There aren't as good asSan Francisco. They're not as good as
Kansas City right now overall, butthey could be with a couple more drafts
and a couple more free agents, you know, periods and knowing that you've
got this incredible offense, a greatcoach, a great GM. Obviously Eric
Glenn will see what happens with that. But they've got a yeah, see

(28:52):
uh but well, and they canalso be losing in the offseason. Ben
Johnson. So I think Ben Johnsonwants to see this thing through at least
a little long. Well, hewould be an idiot. He should go
be a head coach, I know. But still, the whole point that
I'm making is you are getting toa point where this team might become a
year in, year out legit contender. And I would take waiting a year

(29:15):
or two more to have that fora decade. If I'm a Lions fan,
which I am, but I've coveredthis team forever, and I've seen
these cancerful locker rooms, and I'veseen the haters of Stafford, and I've
seen Barry Sanders retire at thirty.I've seen all of it like you have.
I mean, you're younger than me, so you there, you were
a kid. So it's one ofthese things where I'm if I'm a Lions

(29:36):
fan right now, enjoy the ride. They're nine and three run. I
know they've got holes, but theydon't have holes like they did, you
know during the Patricia era or duringthe Rod BERENELLI here, they're not,
oh at sixteen and cheering for that. I'm not relax I'm not saying that,
but I'm sticking to my guns, all right. Getting to Sunday,
They're going to Chicago. As Isaid, playing the Bears. Your thoughts

(30:00):
in your pick. I think thatthe Bears are definitely a better team than
they were Game one, but they'restill not that good. And I'm sorry
to interrupt, I think Justin Field, no it's not Justin Fields. I
think is pissed because he even saidafter they lost here that they should have
won that game. And and Ithink they're pissed, and they're coming off

(30:22):
a bye and I'm not saying they'regonna win because the Bears are not a
good team. I just would likeit if Ryan pulls the GM didn't share
in the press box he was sittingin front of us that Bears game.
Well you want to hear a funnystory about that is his bodyguard was sitting
next to Rigor and so I,right, we wanted you to sit next
He stole the seat, but itwasn't even his seat, and I sat
down. No it was not his. And he goes, you're in my

(30:44):
seat, and I'm thinking, no, I'm not. But anyway, and
I said to him, my Igo so are you h you did you
come from Kansas City? Because hewas the GM or assistant GM of the
chief And I said, did youcome from Kansas City? And he goes
yeah, And I said, oh, because I used to cover the team.
I go, but you were achild. I mean it was back
in you know, early two thousandswhen I covered the Chiefs and uh.

(31:08):
And so it was his bodyguard.I didn't know it was his bodyguard,
but he still still I wouldn't saya bodyguard his handler. Would he take
a bullet for him? But Iwould it. But it was It was
funny because I had asked somebody, why are they sitting in the press They
kid cheer the press box. Here'sthe thing. And I think the reason
why they because usually they're in acy right, That's what I exactly think.

(31:32):
Why is I was told that atSoldier Field the Lions GM Brad Holmes,
those guys are also put in thepress Well, they put they you
were I don't know if we werethere from the Packers game. They put
in the Packags GM there too inthe press box. Oh yeah, And
so that's why I think the Lionsput them in the press box and weren't.
I was shocked because I thought theyalways have their own box. I

(31:53):
did too, but it was justfunny because they make an announcement before the
game. No cheering in the nowListen, you see this happen a lot
more. I'm sure you've seen thistoo in college, because college is it's
different. But in the NFL tosee cheering in a press box is like,
you don't see. It just doesn'thappen. But I mean, when
you're a GM of the team,I guess, but still the rules of

(32:15):
the pro spot you just don't doit. Okay. So at the end
of the game he was pretty quiet, though of course he should be.
Listen, justin Fields, I've neverbeen sold in justin Fields and the Bears.
Listen. The Bears have definitely gottenbetter, but they started at a
at a really low level. TheLions, even with their you know,
House of Horror's history at times asoldier field went back to those neil anders

(32:37):
and Dave's that little mouth guard. It drove me nuts. Uh, the
line should win this game. Idon't want to say easy, because nothing's
easy in the NFL. But ifyou know, listen, you mentioned the
McNeil injury, which is obviously hurtsthe lines, lack of a pass rush.
Can they can they stop fields? They did a decent job of him
at when he came back in Detroitand Jared Goff cannot turn the ball over
and he's not. He's like likea q of like fifty something in outdoor

(33:01):
Garxy's bad and out do you andI heren too though, because I was
just gonna say, you can't turnthe ball er, the lines don't,
the Lions don't trip the ball over, and you have a big game for
Montgomery and Gadget. I think they'regonna lean heavily on whether I was looking
at it. Jamison Williams my faithsuper Jamo's easy, Oh far super Jamis
He was always I don't know why. I just find him highly entertaining and

(33:21):
now developing and getting better. Andeven Dan Campbell acknowledged he's getting better.
There's now more of a trust. That double reverse was quite impressive. But
he will not will not be somersaultinginto the end zone in those No,
no, because you could the ball, you could lose the ball. We're
seeing it happen. Listen, yougot a clear way in there. Have

(33:42):
your fun but please be careful. We need the six points. Just run
in there. There's no need forthose that do it after do a backflip
once you are in the end zoneand touchdown. And those fans that were
hating on is he ever going tobe anything? You played like seven games
like give the guy a break,he's got trends down, Jared even Jared
goff My intended after the game ofgetting that trust there, and I think
that's great. You have Laporter Williams, Jameson Williams. Of course, I'm

(34:06):
on Ross Saint Brown, who's justyou know, so good. But top
five of the game picking the Bears. Okay, sobout picking the Bears.
But I was going to say whetherthere could be some rain in Chicago,
could be sloppy, but that's DavidMontgomery weather, and that's you know,
calumb your he's going home. It'sgoing to be lower scoring, I think,
But I have it Lions twenty four, Chicago thirteen, so a little

(34:28):
closer than I think it should be. But that's the roaded games in the
NFL. Okay, now is yourchance, Michigan Slappy Wolverines. Let me
just stigne stealing saga that just won'tme. You did want to give me
praise for my shirtless, great lookingphysique with my wrappers chaine face painter chest,
Well, I don't. I don'treally pay a chest. Often it's

(34:49):
roll my face. I've seen thepictures you at the Michigan game lifting up
your shirt and oh there was nolifting up. It was just you know,
I wasn't. I was planning.I'll show you again so I can
remind you I wasn't planning on doingthis. Please. It's a great look,
it's a great let's go, Imean the squatch with all the fans
behind me. Check out my socialmedia at the Lags have it's emotional.

(35:10):
Okay, so Michigan, slappy you. But now I'm not asking you about
their game against Bama or anything signstealing saga. Who cares about that because
everybody hates Michigan and Florida State. Now they're the darlings because they didn't get
in and the rules blah blah blah. But my question to you is this

(35:34):
finally going to be Jim harbaughs lastseason with Michigan, Because last week it
gave there was all the all ofit. But this was early. This
is early Panthers fired their head coachFrank Craig, and now Bears haven't even
fired Matt eber Flus, and they'resaying that's where he could go. All
right, listen, listen, myfine friends, and most importantly Rada exact.

(35:57):
Well, Jag is my finest friend. Never met him before, I
already love him. So the JimHarbaugh stuff is out of control because it's
every year. That's because you hearthe rumors that he's going to be suspended
the first half of next time, right, which is I don't think it's
gonna happen. I think that it'sover. I mean, how many more
investigations you want to have done? The rules from ninety We won't get bogged

(36:21):
down that team. Stallions, Yeah, I think I think he's a genius,
But it's I think you're You're reallyit might be. That's why that's
why I use the fake thing. The shade. May peple think, oh
what is it? Stallions, No, but it's Listen, I don't think
he's gonna get the Spanish him.I've been at the same places at the
same time. There is a weirdNo, there is a weir, a
squatch. Stallion's game going on insocial media. I just I think Jim

(36:46):
Harbaugh wore out as welcome in theNFL. I think that if he was
going to get a job, allthe different rumors, Vikings, rain Ers,
this, that I think he wouldhave gotten one. And I'm not
saying that some crazy well I don'tsay crazy because he's a great coach,
but I'm not saying that some ownerwouldn't give him a chance. But to
me, why would you want togo back? I know he was yards
away from the Super Bowl in theSuper and Home by the way where you

(37:07):
know it was close with him andKaepernick against the Ravens when the lights went
out in Georgia, but it wasreally your owns. But to me,
why would you want to leave Michigan. You're gonna be parennally a playoff team,
You're gonna have chances to win multiplenational championships. You have the largest
alumni in the world, all theregents and people there love him. You

(37:27):
know he has a high graduation rateAPR where you know the metic in college
athletics with the student athletes. Whythe NFL? I know that it's like
why did Nick Saban go? Youwant to win that Super Bowl. What
are the chances Hardball goes to theNFL win the Super Bowl very very very
very soon. But I think ifthey beat Alabama and make it to the
well, if they win it all, the championship and win it all,

(37:50):
I think there is a chance. If they win it all, I think
there's a much better chance than ifthey don't. But it's even if they
win it all, you have achance to win multiple national championship and you
have to go to the NFL andfight and scratch and claw to build a
team back up, because he's gonnago to a crabby team. If I'm
Jim Harbaugh, he loves ann Arbor, his family loves ann Arbor. I

(38:10):
just I would see it. AndPlus I get what you're saying about if
there's a suspension, but I don'tthink there will be that rules from nine
teny four. Get over it.People like they broke the rules I accepted
as a Wolverine fan. I'm notgonna say everyone else is doing it,
even though they are. But moveon, e They're gonna remake the rule
for the modern age. It wasbasically they made the rule because they didn't

(38:30):
want the rich schools to have advantageover the poor schools be able to send
people like Stelling to the Yellow Submarineall over the country. So I just
don't see it happening. But listen, there's that itch. You know that
winning a super Bowl is in footballthe king, it's everything, it's you
know, that's the that's the lastbastion of greatness. Not that the national
title wouldn' matter, but you're likeyou said, if they win the national

(38:51):
championship, you know, that wouldprobably make it a little easier. But
I still think if they do,why not come back and win two or
three or four in a row likeGeorgia tried it. Yeah. Absolutely,
I mean it's hopeful, wish we'llthink. All right, Dan, I
so want to thank you for comingin, but I gotta say Dan will
be here next week too. What'sI think I was going to sleeper until
next week? Sir? Well, just give me some food. People have
