like twenty seconds. The audio isgonna be a little weird because I was
(00:22):
moving and I didn't have all myequipment with me. It's audio only.
If you found me on YouTube, you could find the video version, but
it's audio only, you won't seeher. So if you're a creep and
want to see her, sorry, you ain't seeing huh on YouTube, but
you're checking out the audio version. Now that's what you're listening to, so
you don't worry about seeing huh.I'm just babbling, all right, let's
get into it. Hey, Yo, what up? I'm Josh Martinez of
iHeartRadio's newest wrestling podcast, A SuperstarCrossover with my guests Zelina Vega. What's
(00:46):
up girl? Oh? Nothing?Really? How are you? I'm selling?
Man? Listen. I'm gonna justguest straight to the point you made
me cry three different times that backlashgirls. So I can't even imagine what
that feeling was like for you, because that's somebody who grew up in Brooklyn
and Staten Island one hundred percent PuertoRican a si flu Savio ve got growing
up not that much representation what thatfeeling must have been like for you that
(01:08):
whole week leading up to the event. What was it like? Yo?
Oh my god, I still feellike it was a dream. Almost after
I have to keep checking my mom. I'm like, I did really get
this LWO tattoo right? Like thisis real? But yeah, it was
just crazy because it wasn't even somethingthat was We had no idea, None
of us had any idea was goingto go that way. But it was
(01:30):
cool because you know, Friday,it was like, oh, yeah,
you're just main eventding SmackDown with yourchildhood hero and winning, no big deal,
and then getting matching tattoos with himlater that night, and then having
that moment Saturday. It was justeverything I think eight year old THEA could
have possibly wanted in life. Yo. And I gotta say, what was
that feeling like to see the LWOshirt for the first time? Battle the
(01:53):
Puerto Rican version, so you know, it's funny. I actually, before
I even knew it was going tobe a thing, I had suggested that
we do that because I was like, you know, it's obviously really cool
to be doing this and having likethe Mexico colors, but there's so many
other people who are going to wantto be a part of this, you
(02:14):
know, like not just you know, me as a as a Puerto Rican
woman, but also people like fans, you know, who are gonna say
like, oh, what I wouldwant, you know, the Puerto Rico
version. Maybe there's a Cuban version, maybe there's you know, there's so
many different people who want to bea part of it now, and I
just think it's such a cool thing. But when I had seen it,
well actually I had sent them myversion and mine had the star, which
(02:34):
is a tattoo that I can yeah, and they're like, oh my god,
I wish that we would have talkedto you before we sad it.
But they showed me their version.I was like, this is insane,
that this is real life right now, that we're actually having the LWO in
general, but now also a PuertoRico I'm just like, up, so
honored. There's there's so many thingsthat I looked at, like, my
god, I'm so blessed to bea part of this, especially with the
(02:55):
crew that I have. I'm soso blessed now. I mean, you
and I similar, you know whatI'm saying upbringings in New York and watching
Superstars on Fox five and kind ofthe exact same, you know, watching
wrestling and stuff like that. Butlike I said, like I said before,
representation nowadays especially, it's such abig deal. Do you feel any
extra weight being a Latina on wWTV knowing that, like I said,
(03:19):
growing up, we weren't really outhere like that, right, right,
I mean, I guess I doin a way, but it's something that
I just I take on them withsuch a pride because I'm so happy that
I get to be that for people. And I mean, my god,
I've been a you know, abad guy in my entire career, going
back to like when I first started, you know, back and like I
don't know, I was seventeen whenI started, so it's just, yeah,
(03:44):
it's crazy. But now to beon the other side of it and
to be that representation for people isso cool for me. You know,
and I get to have like allthese little girls come up to me saying
like I want to be just likeyou, and like, you know,
it's so cool to see like ayou know, a fellow Latina on screen,
and especially Puerto Rican, like it'sespecially New Yorcans. I've been having
(04:05):
so many of those coming up tome and I'm just like, oh my
god, like, oh, Ijust I feel so at home and it's
so nice to represent for them, because my god, it's it's something that
I feel like I've been wanting todo for so long, and now to
be that, it's just sometimes youhave to pinch yourself, you know,
because thinking it's like, wow, this is real, and I think that
(04:25):
is dope nowadays talking to two superstarslike yourself and kind of getting to know
the person a little more, becauseyou know, talking to Carrying Cross fellow
New York and a lot of peopledon't realize that, or Toody who's half
cuban Um. You know, it'sit's a see like minded people, fellow
Latinos. And it doesn't have tobe as blatantly in your face as Savio
(04:46):
Vega or raise a Ramone because growingup by dead I thought he was Cuban
and he wasn't, you know whatI'm saying. Yeah, so I guess
technically you're still Queen Zelena in theory, right, because technically ideas well.
Were there any like step plans wherethey were like, all right, you're
gonna go over and then boom, here's a story. Um No, actually
(05:09):
not necessarily. It was one ofthose things where you know, for me,
I never really believe something until it'shappening. So until I actually was
sitting on the throne holding the crownin Saudi Arabia, like hearing my name
is queens Lena, That's when Ibelieved it and I was like, Okay,
this is real. And then whenI got to the back, all
I remember seeing is just people clapping, and then Vince telling me like,
(05:31):
you know, you've always been aqueen, but now it's official, and
I'm like, that's really crazy,Like only you know, just Vince a
man, you know, like tellingyou that that's just it's it's wild.
But there wasn't any step plans,or wasn't even the stuff that happened with
me and Carmela, like it wasn'tnone of them, but especially with her,
it happened so organically, and Iliked that because with her and I
(05:53):
we had planned once we actually didget together, we had some ideas as
far as like do you remember Eddieand travel We're doing like a bunch of
really cool, like funny vignettes backin the day. Yeah. Yeah,
yeah, that was kind of ourideas, just of like where we wanted
to take it and stuff. Soyeah, there was a lot of things
and who knows, you know, what ends up happening in the future.
(06:13):
But um, that's just like someof the places that we wanted to go
and wanted to take it, andI mean, who knows, who knows.
But no, none of it wasplanned. Nothing, Nothing really came
to you know, hey this isactually happening until like maybe a week before
anything happened. So no, itwas very organic all of it. Listen,
I am based in New York City. You grew up in New York
(06:35):
City, So I gotta hit youin a little bit of this or that
New York City version you righty, okay? All right? Train or bus?
What would you rather be on?Oh? Train? Your bacon,
egg and cheese? Is it ona bagel or a roll? A bagel?
Yankees and Mets. Yankees Jets areGiants, Giants, Nicks or Nets,
(06:58):
nixt China East food or pizza,Pizza pool or a beach pool,
yellow rice or white rice, yellown Lee or cammyon. Oh m way,
So talk about this three fighter thingthat you got popping off, girl,
because this is kind of dope forsomeone who loves Street Fighter growing up.
(07:20):
That was such a cool transition thatyou just did. I was,
hey, don't give these jobs toChimp's baby. So street Fighter six,
my god, it comes out Junesecond, and I am so stoked.
I'm a real time commentator in thegame. And again we you know,
we've been talking a lot about justthings that you have to pinch yourself to
(07:41):
believe, and this is just anotherone of those things. Because I got
I'm from Queens Village, so Iwould be on two seventeen shot in my
grandmother's house, in my brother's roomjust playing Street Fighter and hanging out there
and just my god, thinking aboutthat and then hearing my voice in the
game is just again one of thosethings that you're just gonna go, oh
my god, is that a realthing? But um, yeah, it's
(08:03):
uh, it's something that you getto choose when you start up the game.
Um, there's about four different commentators. There's obviously like more yes,
there's obviously like the more in depthcommentators who know each move, everything that's
happening, all the stats. Andthen there's the real time commentators who are
more reactionary and pretty much it's justmeat dialed up to at ten. So
(08:26):
just a typical fan, I likeit, yeah, of course. So
so growing up, did you listento Z one hundred? I did so.
When you said that, I waslike, oh my god, wait,
this is a blasphem in past.Yes, hey, Elvis Duran is
still on in the mornings. Ohyeah, I'm the night show host and
I'm the first Puerto Rican at Zone hundreds. So that's why there's very
(08:48):
body equascentric this conversation because we outhere, Yeah, we make in history.
So growing up, what happy musicdid you listen to? Before we
wrap this up? Um? So, first of all, I did go
to I remember I think it wasjingle Ball, right, yes, right,
yes, sure Garden, Yes,yes, I did go to that.
You remember who headlined? Ah,I don't. I don't, but
(09:09):
I do remember seeing like I feellike a Shanty and John Uh were there.
Okay, yes it was a longtime ago, but oh my gosh,
I don't really remember who headlined it. It was so so you know
what this means, Listen, I'mjust putting it out there. This means
that in this this December, whenwe have our next jingle Ball, you
come through, you hang out,but you get like the VIP treatment out
(09:31):
of our jingle Ball. And Iknow, w W we's listening to this.
Yeah, I always run a showaround Christmas, so it could be
cross promotion for that show too.Boom, we are cool. I love
that. Yes, let's do that. I feel like we just gotta have
an LW pull up and just dothis girl. Listen, my ass ordered
the LWO tank, the shirt, and the shirt I got in two different
(09:54):
sizes because I'm getting that little pondsout developing. But that's another conversation for
another day. Before we wrapped thisup, what type of music do you
listen to? Like I was sayingbefore, my music taste is all over
the place, and especially being anan in my head, like I mean,
my god, I go for everyif you and I always warn people
when they're in the car with meI'm like, listen, my music taste
is all over the place. Don'tjudge me. But it'll start off like
(10:16):
in rap, and then it'll golike something from jay Z, like older,
like I love Dmax. So you'llstart with Dmax and then you'll move
to Aliyah, you know, becauseAliah was my everything. I love her.
And then you'll hear Nicki Minaj,and then you'll hear you'll Sabby who's
a Japanese singer. You know, sure why? So it's all over the
place. It's all over the place. I love it. I appreciate it.
(10:39):
This is called the Superstar Crossover.Um So I would like to know
for if you have a question forour next guest. That's how I do
things here, So you can askany question you want to our next guest,
and let me tell you the nextguest may not be someone from W
W E and I'm just leave itat that. I would want to know
what their favorite anime is and isit Naruto? Listen? I got I
(11:05):
got a cousin named Paul who's obsessedwith anime and he's been trying to get
me on the train and I can'tdo it. Dog, you can't do
it. I just I can't.Man. I'll leave that to you and
him to converse one day and i'llsee it on the Twitter machine. But
I'm good over here on that.Yeah. I tried. We might end
up convincing you, who knows.I always tell people you need to watch
(11:26):
at least five episodes in Arto todecide if it's for you or not.
If you do, then you're like, yeah, it's not for me,
that's fine. But usually by fiveepisodes people kind of know I'm gonna give
it five, and by five anda half, I'm gona tweet you one
more time. Selina Vega, appreciateyou coming through a girl. Thank you,
Thank you so much. This meansa lot to
