Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, Jeremy Pania as promised joining us. He is
the Astros shortstop. Jeremy, We're gonna make this really easy
for you. You're on the radio with Adam and Adam,
so if you can keep that straight, you'll know, you'll
know who.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
You're talking to. Hey, congrats on the win last night.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Congrats on the the first win against the Tigers in
this series. A very good team, by the way, And
don't need to tell you about how that went last
year in the postseason. So maybe a measure of revenge
a little bit. But just the fact that you guys,
from a hitting standpoint, seem to be coming around. It
was rough the first two games of that Kansas City
Series and then you bust out in the finale and

(00:37):
kind of carry that over into last night. Is maybe
the light at the end of the tunnel here.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
I would do it for us. I mean, it's a
long season, you know. I feel like it's still pretty
early in the season to kind of judge judge our
bats from the first month. You know, Yeah, I felt
like the last game and Katch said you had better energy.
We put together better at that and we executed. You know,
it's about executing kind of timely, hitting runners on, get

(01:07):
him in. That's when we're at our best.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
You've had the opportunity, Jeremy to be the first batter
of the game the last couple of days an off
day for Jose, and then yesterday he bats in the
two hole, hits that home run, obviously a huge one. Curious,
first of all, did he have any advice for you
about batting leadoff because he's so unconventional when he bats leadoff.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
I mean, he just said, be aggressive, you know, don't
worry about, oh, I need to see pitches because I'm
hitting leadoff. He just said, be yourself, put together your
plan and then and I'll figure it out in a second.
You don't need to kind of change your approach just
because you're hitting in a different front of the lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
You find yourself in an interesting position and that you've
kind of you kind of came in in the middle
of everything during this elite run by the Astros. So
you're not quite like Altuve where you've seen it all,
but you've seen enough now and you've been in place
to where you can see the additions of Christian Walker
and est Soak. Peretta is in the same offseason where
Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman walks out the door. And

(02:12):
I asked this of your manager earlier. Do you feel like,
for example, Christian might have been pressing a little bit
because he's you know, an off season acquisition and big
signing and that kind of thing, and how much if
that's the case or whatever the case was, are you
happy to see him kind of bust out with that
home run last night.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
I don't think he's you know, Christian Love is a
professional through and through. You know, he's the person that
shows up every single day. You know, he puts the
work in, he lifts up his teammates, and you know
he's a great ball player. He's showing it year in Europe,
so it was only a matter of time.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
The infield obviously changes quite a bit. What do you
think about the the type of defense your team overall
and specifically the infield has been able to play Horetus
over at third and Walker over at first and somebody
at second base that's not Altuve.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
I mean, we as an organization, we take pride and
playing great defense, and I feel like this year we've
we've done that. You know, I feel like our defense
has been a phenomenal to go with great pitching, you know,
and that's what's been keeping us involving.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I mentioned this the other day the Astros your team,
Jeremy Paignon with us here on the A team, he's
giving up only three hundarned runs, which is by far
the lowest number in the league. And specific too, I
mentioned of al two A not being its second Do
you relish the opportunity knowing that if there's a pop
up hit anywhere near you, he won't be calling you
off of it this.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Year, you know, we had that talk, you know, but
he's confident out there. He's comfortable out there, and he's
ready to track everything down. You know, he's not shy
at all. So and he's made some great plays so
far this year. You know, it's speaks to the the
type of person he is, a type of player he is.

(03:53):
You know, he just takes up the position and he,
you know, playing it at a pretty high level.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
The playmate last night, with no need for the glove,
playing it perfectly off the wall, Bear handing it and
firing it into dubond. Those plays stand out quickly, don't they.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Of course, you know that's the infes in him. You know,
he's a he's an infro tore at heart. So he's
you know, he's good at you know, reading balls and
throwing from different angles and a get creative out there.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I have to ask, are you getting your fade tightened up?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (04:24):
What's that noise in the background, the little beard shave?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I'm getting a haircut.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Jeremy Pania getting a haircut live on Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Hey, I'll get a haircut right.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I love this. No, this, this is a good thing. Okay.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
So I asked your manager about this guy, and I
know what you think of him. How happy are you
that you don't have to get into the box against
Hunter Brown here in twenty twenty five?

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Oh Man, Hunter Brown is a tough at bat, let
me tell you. And you know, I get to watch
him from I guess the best you. He's so dominant,
he's so confident in himself, and he always gives us
an opportunity to win ball games. So yeah, it was
fun to watch the pitch.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Can you appreciate his intensity level because he's he does
absolutely display it. He seems like he's not and then
a play will get made. Behind him or a punch
out will happen, or he'll get out of a jam,
and he really delivers from that emotional side.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
I love it, you know, I love it. He brings
the energy. Like I said, every time he pitches, he
brings the energy, and we kind of fuel off of that,
you know. And yeah, Haunter Brown, he's going to be
a force in the league. He's already a fourth, but
I think he's going to be, especially in this league,
for a long time.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I think it's about time for us to let you
get all tightened up properly.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
You got a ball game tonight.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
You're already at work, and you're sparing your time with us,
so we'll let you do that. And we certainly appreciate
you carving eate some multitasking time for us.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I appreciate you all for having me.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Hey, looking forward to seeing the tight lettuce on the
field tonight.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Oh yeah, look forward to it. Fresh trade. All right,
Naylo Stilo Barber shouts the best of the games.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
There you go, love it, appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Jeremy all right, all right, thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Jeremy Pena here on Sports Talk seven ninety. I don't
even know how to transition out of that, that's that's
good stuff right there,
