to fry. At the moment, it's the Rockets, it's the Warriors,
it's the playoffs for the fifth time Rockets Warriors getting

together in a post season series twenty fifteen. We were
also innocent back then as the Rockets. Actually, really that
playoff run was so much fun because that involved the
comeback against the Clippers, trouncing the Dallas Mavericks in five
games prior to that, and then you.

Found yourself in the Western Conference five.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
The MAVs know that defense wins championships, then are they
just learning it now?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
No, they got their one one off championship with Dirk
and they'll never win another one again. I'm very confident
in saying that, especially in light of recent events. They're
so much further away after going to the finals.

Last year than they need to be.

So when the Rockets win the West this year in
Game six in Houston against Oklahoma City does like I'm
trying to think of somebody that would have even been
there for it.

I'll never forget though, James Harden the shot of him
going into the locker room and throwing down a it
was like a like a curtain, like a in their building.
Uh huh yep, because they were it was a closed loss.
It's actually a very spacious area.

It's similar to how the how Toyota Center is set up,
except that brick wall leading right to the visitors locker
room isn't there. There's a big long walkway for both
teams home and road, but a huge open area which
is where they put all the additional media. They're much larger.

there's a curtained off area where they set up workout
areas for the visiting team, the Rockets, you know, their
training table and some of the other things. And you
got a little bit better glimpse of it when the

just got trounced.

And it was even more unfortunate in that they got
blown out in the two games. Steph Curry did play,
He only played in two games, and he barely played
those games.

to add Kevin or they did add Kevin Durant that offseason.
So and then they go on their run. The Rockets
retool for a year. They have the awful loss to
the Spurs in twenty seventeen where James Harden got blocked
by stupid ass Monogenobili and then no showed in the
very next game at home as they rolled over and
died against a Spurs team that then lost Kawhi Leonard

Funny how that always happened to the rules. Yeah, it
did change the rules.

It also changed the trajectory of yet another Warriors title
run or tried to a title run.

Because it's not like somebody's gonna get hurt in every
postseason game they play, But so far it's happened, It's
happened in every series. Well, I'm being serious to this year. Yeah,
they played one game post regular season. I won't call
it a playoff game.

But was praying to the sports guys sacrificing all sorts
of limbs on other teams.

They have made a deal with the devil.

Every single time they won a championship, they have had
massive injuries to multiple opponents.

So let's people act like that's not a factor. It

you forget about it? Because all you know, every year.

The best player or one of the best players on
several of the teams you beat to get there.

Well, what I've said to keep people from trying to
remember all the minutia of it is injuries in the
postseason in the NBA are a humongous determining factor as
you make your way through trying to win four series.
If you're really, really good, you still probably caught a
break on an injury. You still probably caught a break
with a call or multiple versions of both. Even if

you're very good, it's not to say you might not
have won anyway, you're that good.

And if it turned and it turns out that when
Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson go down, apparently Steph Curry's
not superhuman and couldn't carry them to a title because
he was the greatest player ever against the Toronto Raptors.

This is gonna be so much fun.

Oh, I know, I'm gonna have a heart attack because
I'm so sick of this franchise and the it's it's
fine if you win, but like, just acknowledge some of
what's being said that's rooted in absolute truth in facts,
not just the injuries. But let's fast forward to the
injury to Chris Paul in twenty eighteen, which was only
the second most bitter pill to swallow for Rockets fans

in that series, because Game six and especially seven were
completely slanted by terrible officiating.

And we really missed all the threes and close enough
to win, right, Both of them without.

One of them on the road.

Ye, So I can't if a if a series is
going to be that tightly contested after the second best
player on one of the teams is out and then
you add not one, but two god awful officials to
a Game seven that's in Houston and they've got a
double digit lead, and then dumbass Warriors fans are just

gonna say we shouldn't missed twenty seven street deep poys
like it's so arrogant actually and based in complete and
utter just disdain for what actually happened to just act like,
oh yeah, full strength Rockets would beat them again. That's
what they did though, And then in twenty nineteen, honestly,
the whole run it back thing, I don't know, like,

how would you characterize that loss, because I know Kevin
Durant got hurt in the middle of that series, and
really you could argue hasn't been the same since from
a physical standpoint, even though he's still very good, good
enough to maybe trade for him this offseason here in Houston.
But it's just you knew when eighteen went down the
way it did, it just never felt like and James

Yeah, if the first four games had gone a little
bit more of your way and it was still two
to two, but you had a chance to win all
four of them, and you managed to win Game three
in overtime here and win Game four, and you had
a chance to win game five, maybe I should have
just said that if you could have gotten game five, which.

They came fast. Typically is the series they didn't a lot.

You played a six game series against a team that
clearly had your number, clearly was the best team in
basketball and was likely to play for the title. All
six games were super close, decided by six to.

A seventh game. I know.

But that's why when you say they have your number, player,
like you said they when you say they have your number,
technically that is true because they're always winning. But to
me that almost screams, don't you don't have a chance,
because it's just a foregone conclusion. But what you just
said after that tells me no, Like the Rockets were
in all these games, just like this year, single digit games.

The biggest win in this season series belongs to the Rockets,
and it was a double digit victory.

It does the one thing about it feels like what
you're describing what I'm saying, how it feels like it
you can't beat them, that they it's a foregone conclusion
that why bothers show up? That is also true, why
bothers show up? You played them four times, they beat
you all four times. You're right they you're not going
to beat them. And the Rockets happen to be the
team if I'm not mistaken, that saw them more than

anybody else during that time period.

Yeah, they were also the only team that had even
a remote chance of beating them other than a full
strength Cleveland Cavaliers team. Funny, when two of their other
three best players weren't sidelined, they won.

Imagine that it is an ancient history because the head
coach is still there, two of their five starters are there,
and they both still matter. But this Rocket side of
things is just so dramatically different. All they know about
this series is when they all arrived, nobody had beaten
the Warriors in a Rockets uniform except for Jeff Green,

and that was going back to last year when Eme
got here, When Jalen and Alpino, nobody's beaten the war
none of them and they went through an entire year
last year without beating the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
They broke that. So they aren't a lot of other
teams they were five hundred.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Oh well, yeah, the quality of their basketball team clearly
has changed, but specific to this team, a lot of
history here, generically speaking. That's why we start with this
because we got several days not only before the series starts,
but in between games one and two, and in between
games two and three. There's only series in the NBA.

We'll leave you with this for the next two hours.
There were two series of the eight that they set
up where there was dramatic rest time at the beginning
of the series. They'll play Sunday night, they'll play Wednesday night,
and then they will play on Saturday after travel. So
that's two days off in between both of those sets

of games and the two series they gave those times
to those dates to include the Los Angeles Lakers and
their old out of shape drunk Corps just to pile
on the Luca Dallas nonsense, and the old Golden State
Warriors led by two of the oldest really good postseason

players in twenty twenty four twenty five. We'll see if
it matters but by being in the seven eight game,
Golden State gets four days off before the series.

It's gonna matter.

Then they're gonna get two days off in between each
of those games. The end of the series, if you've
kept it to say two to one or two to two,
well then you'll get into the normal mode of playing
just about every other day and we'll see what happens

As we've kind of transitioned out of Astros Baseball of
the losing variety Astros falling in the finale the rubber
match today up in Saint Louis four to one.

He was a thorn in the Astros side during this
series and particularly today. Three run home run wound up
being basically the difference in a four to one loss
where the Astros offense, yet again Knemick is being kind,
and they dropped two out of three in Saint Louis.
They've got the Padres coming up this weekend, as they'll
have the off day tomorrow, Padres will be here in town.

But man, the Astros offense could really use an injection
of I don't even know what you would call it
at this point. It's just the pitching is absolutely good
enough to get the job done, even the bullpen at times,
but the offense has just not done much of anything
out of the gate, save for a couple of different
occasions where they've blown up.

In one of those whoa what happened there?

Kind of nights, we talked a lot about the fact
that the Rockets and the Warriors last segment, Rockets and
the Warriors getting together for the umpteenth time. I think
I'm struck by how many people in the It's crazy
to think that it's been five years last time these
two got together or More importantly, the last time the
Rocks were in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Twenty nineteen the last time they played in the playoffs,
and twenty.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Twenty in the bubble was the last time they were
in the postseason because that was the Lakers, which is
who will await you in all likelihood in the next
round if they take care of business against the Timberwolves
and you beat the Warriors, so you're gonna have back
to back nauseating. The NBA clearly would prefer this team
when this series matchups, makes.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
It even sweeter if it doesn't happen.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Yeah, you know what I I gotta say, I think
it's I think it's disingenuous to be utterly dismissive of
that type of thing. I was talking to somebody about
this today, and you know, Scott Foster's gonna walk through
the door at some point.

Maybe he's healthy. What do you mean, you got hurt
this year? You got hurt here in Houston. Actually is
he out still? He hasn't.

I don't believe he's refereed to games since it was
one of the games I was doing in March. I believe,
and I noted during the broadcast, Scott Foster's walking to
the back.

What was the injury. I think he hurt his calf,
so it was like a strain.

I mean, I don't know that they are official for
the officials.

We should we should have those in the NBA and
really in any league, especially if it's somebody that they
consider one of their best and therefore is going to
be out there for very important games. But I just
you know, I have a fundamental problem with and you've
you and I have talked about this at nauseam before
the fact that you know Tim donahe and what happened
with him. Scott Foster is on record as texting him

hundreds of time in and around the games in question,
and he's still employed by the league. That's a fascinating
aspect of this whole thing to me. And he's still
in the middle of all of these pivotal games that
you know, basically teams like the Rockets and other non darlings.

At the moment.

I'm not saying the Rockets couldn't become any media darling,
but currently they are not. They do not employ Steph Curry,
they do not employ Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
I think it would be almost impossible for them to
become a media darling. Why because they're in Houston? Like,
how bad would the Lakers?

Speaker 2 (15:27):
What were the Warriors before this era? They were just
a team in California?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
But right nobody I didn't say totally impossible, yeah, and
that they could be very difficult.

All it takes is you drafting, Like Cleveland was never
a darling until Lebron got there.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
How about san Antonio is never going to be a darling? True?

Even with a player that the NBA would love to
have on a team that is considered a darling.

This is what This is another thing that's fascinating to
me about the NBA. You're clearly a distant third right
now in the Big three? You are, okay, don't you agree?

Sure? Yes, absolutely so. In NFL's not in.

Terms of how much money they keep bleeding out of
their TV partners.

But I get it, that's just Stat's like picking up

It's not the NBA's fault that somebody's doing that. Why
wouldn't you take the money?

And the thing is everybody's doing it. Do you have
a network, a streaming platform? Throw your money at us
please and they're all doing it.

Yeah, yeah, But I like, I just feel like if
you're like, Okay, for example, right or the Yeah, the
Rockets somehow get the number one pick in the draft
and they draft Cooper Flag, Well, that's a guy that
I think, at least for the first year.

I mean, we see how it goes on that level.

The NBA, I mean, they're desperately wanting to inject star
power into the league because Lebron and Steph aren't gonna
play forever. They're both gonna be gone in the next
five years theoretically, and then it might be still around.
Steph might be, but I doubt it. No, you won't
be uh and Lebron certainly won't be. So you've gotta
you gotta do something like is SGA going to carry

your league? Especially in the market he's in.

This is a big problem for them, and I don't
know how much it has to do with Houston. I
also don't think maybe Zion and Victor, but pretty much
everybody else is just a good player.

Cooper Flag, to me, is just a good player.

He's not a we need this player to succeed because
we absolutely can't wait to have him as our marquep guy.

It puts butts in seats.

Except for one element of him, which is different from
the last one. Two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen.

light skin color, I think we have to at least
acknowledge it might make a difference to them in this case,

That's why we bring it up so often, the knowledge
that we shared with you before last night's Memphis Golden
State game. By the way, Golden State won last night
one twenty one, one sixteen.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
They had advanced, barely held off the Grizzlies. By the way,
that is an accurate portrayal of how that game went.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Yeah, they played two men. They played two against five
and then four when Jah got hurt, and there two
were better than the Grizzlies four. Because for much of
that time. Uh, there's a lot of reasons why the
Grizzlies made far too many mistakes after they'd played well
enough to stay in the game and come back and
tie the game and take the lead.

It's not just the turnovers, it's how bad they were.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
You can't the turnovers they had the beginning of the game,
you know, the first fifteen or so, just so bad.
And then the free throws that were missed late in
the game or in the fourth quarter. Can't have that,
and you probably want to go ahead and inbound the basketball.

You got, you gotta throw the ball in. It was
a six second violation, not one of.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
The four mistakes. According to the last two Minute report,
that were made in the game. It was inaccurately timed
roughly six seconds for Santy to hang onto the basketball
and not inbounded the down three coming out of a timeout, couldn't.

Get the ball in bounce.

Game over essentially, But yes, I think that's a fair assessment.
They think there's a huge element, one thing that took
place in that game last night that matters in this
series coming up between the Rockets and the Warriors. I'll
save that for an upcoming segment, but I think it's very,
very important if you were watching closely last night, but
the Warriors got a monster effort from the player they

sought to make this team way way better. If not
for the Luca trade, everybody would be talking about this trade,
at least I would think they would, and I certainly
would be, and I was at the time. They traded
away a whole hummer a plus level. He's not average
Andrew Wiggins and got an elite player. He's still is.
He not playing at an elite level. He somehow managed

to play better in the playoffs for most of his
career and when he gets to the playoffs, because last
yesterday was not a playoff game, was a play in game.
He'll probably play at that level. But try to walk
yourself through last night's game with the Warriors team prior
to the Butler trade.

Memphis is gonna win. Yeah, because Memphis wins that game.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
If they don't make that deal, Steph probably could have
had forty five points.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Yeah, and they still would have lost.

Oh but you can till he hit those two clutch
threes late, he was missing much easier shots all over
the court.

Yeah, mistake made when he hit that three in the
corner and Scottie Pippen Junior ran into him, turned it
into a four point play. He's become a little bit
more I guess of a just jacket up kind of guy.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Eventually, some of them will go in against the Rockets,
right and you cannot.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
You cannot stay with him for an entire possession, win
the possession and then let him get a scramble offensive
rebound to a wide open Curry. It happens to everybody
a time or two. The Rockets should be much more
capable of preventing that. The Grizzlies were not, and most
teams that play the Warriors are not. They put all
the time and effort into chasing him all over the court,

doesn't get a good look, never even sees the basketball.
You get what you want when Draymond throws up a
ridiculous shot because all of his shots are and they miss.
And then you let Moses Moody run through traffic, grab
the ball, tip it out to Curry thirty five footer, splash, Yeah,
and the place goes berserk.

And you you're the best rebounding team in the league,

Luckily they're two games under. They've not had a huge
long loose. I mean they got swept in one series.
Every other series has been two games to one the
rest of the way one way or the other. Unfortunately

the one today went the other. And that's why they've
been unable to get back to or obviously above five hundred,
because they refuse to go streaking.

They are the anti Frank the tank.

So I hope it's not called outside So are there
is their offense akin to the Astra or the Texans
offensive line from year to year?

I don't think the Texans could eventually when they got
far enough along. There was no way they were gonna
win with that offensive line. But their offensive line was
clearly worse in twenty twenty four, and they in a
number of different ways. In the most hardcore, concrete way,
they were exactly the same. They won the division with

the exact same record. They manhandled their opponent at home
in the playoffs with the exact same record. They went
on the road in the playoffs and lost, just as
they had done the year before, to the number one sew.
All the things were the same, even though they clearly
got worse. So can the Astros overcome that and produce
the same kind of season with a significantly worse offense

if this plays out this way all year? My answer
is absolutely positively not. No way is this team going
to the postseason as division champions with an offense like this,
No shot, And I don't believe it's going to be needed,

the days leading up to the draft, and we have
the benefit of also getting to hear from Nick Cassario

the Texans last week. Number one toughest nails, dude. Dude
is gonna be able to give you quality reps on

the inside or on the outside. Hey A, see, you
know how you talk about how god awful this off line.

Is, Well, yes he can fix it at one of
multiple spots.

You want to how I know this because if he
played four different positions during his time when he was
at North Kota State. A North Dakota State Bison roster
that recently won yet another FCS national titles. So think
of like Alabama or like teams you know that are
really good at winning something that I know Texas fans
don't know about really right now, that is what North
Kota State is at the FCS level. Great anchor, good

small hips, able to work upfield as great as a
run blocker, exceptional and pass protection. The number one offensive
linemen in pass pro regardless of FBS or FCS level.
He doesn't lose sight of his target and best of all,
he does a good job of setting blocks, sustaining blocks,
and not letting anybody get in the backfield.

One of the best pass protectors in this year's draft.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
But there is a caveat and a major caveat here,
and it all comes down to the fact that, yeah,
Nick Casserio not really down with drafting the smaller school players.
In fact, ninety percent of the time actually has to
go through the evaluation when it comes to selecting guys
that weren't playing at the FPS.

Speaker 9 (29:10):
Regardless of how much a player has or has not played,
there's obviously going to be an adjustment period that takes place.
So is there an opportunity to evaluate that, Like you
said in the Senior Bowl or East West or something
like that. I mean, I'd say those two games done
a pretty good job of maybe bringing in some lower level,
smaller school players. But it's it's a huge jump, there's
no question about it. So how are they going to

(29:31):
handle it? So you have to again, it's all right,
here's the player, here's what we think he does.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
Well.

Speaker 9 (29:37):
You might have to not downgrade it based on a
level of competition, but there's a difference. You know, what
the guy does against the LSU versus what he does
against you know, Western Tennessee State or something like that.
If that's who they're playing every week, you're not going
to eliminate a player. But you know, not every player
can make that jump. So I mean it's case by case,
like a lot of this is. But there's a projection

element that.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
When he says you aren't going to eliminate that type
of player, he means everybody else. I guess because he,
to be literal, has absolutely eliminated that player. There has
not been a single player drafted in the Nick Cassario
era that would fall into the category of he played

at North Dakota State or the like, no matter how
great he was no matter how great his tape is,
no matter how great he might have performed in postseason scenarios,
no matter how well he grades out physically during testing
at Combine or Pro Days and all of that stuff.

Cover the four worst football programs he's drafted a player from.
And I don't mean them any insult because they're actually
good programs, but from Texans Casario draft history, if I

He's drafted two players from Sorry fort Worth. I'll say TCU,
and I don't mean it because they were in the
playoffs during the Nick Cassario era, so I have a
hard time including them on that list. And I guess
I'll add Oregon State. These are top flight major programs,

tons of NFL player history for all of them at
different periods of their respective universities. And that's the very
very bottom of the barrel caliber college program They've drafted
from Alabama players left and right, multiple players from most
of the biggest, baddest, most successful universities. And we're also

talking about an offensive lineman here.

He can be one of your leaders.

He's not somebody that you're wondering, well, I don't know
if he's going to be able to handle this in
this situation. You want to know if CJ. Stroud can
handle things in this situation here. You want to know
if some players can really get through this big game scenario,
if your offensive lineman is good enough to beat up
NFL players when it gets to game or Week eighteen

you need to win, or when it gets to a
playoff game you need to win. I'm sure that player
will be just fine, but Nick's never done it. He's
literally never drafted. It doesn't mean he won't, but he's
never done it.

Let me just say real fast, if he had an
Alabama logo instead of a North Coosta State logo, number
one player on Nick Asserio's born, I almost can guarantee it.

But the competition that that player has played against is
significantly better.

in his career over his five seasons, he's twenty three
years old, he played against one team in the FBS.
What one team in those forty starts did he play against?

the simplistic idea of Greysabel is going to be a
plus level, ten year starter for whichever team drafts him.

When you look right now at teams like Denver and
Seattle and Los Angeles all doing their due diligence homework
on a guy like Greysabel, and they're picking ahead of you,
why is he not worthy of.

If you are Nic Cassario, yeah, I'm a little bit
I do question what he might best be suited for
and you laid it out. He started at four different positions.
Last year, he was their left tackle. The two years prior,
the majority of his starts came at right tackle. He
also has starts at right guard and left guard. Size Wise,
I don't think there's any problem. I'm not sure that

they'll get into the stupid conversation of his hand size
and wingspan. But when you're talking about tackles, some NFL
teams like to weigh that far too much. I would
call him on the smaller side and both of those categories,
but not enough to wear up. Can't play him out
on the edge. His wingspan's too small or his arms
are not big enough. I just don't believe that's the

determining factor towards success and failure. If you know how
to block, your technique is good, your power is strong,
your base is good, your footwork you'll be fine.
