Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the B ninety three Morning Show. I'm Alli Mack
and I'm Mike. There are not many things that embarrass
you as a girlfriend or a boyfriend, or a husband
or a wife or whatever a partner of somebody when
you get to be like a year a year and
a half in like, I think at that point, you
kind of know what to expect from the other person
and you're kind of past those awkward moments.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Or so I thought maybe.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
It's just a life of them, life filled with them.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
With me one percent.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Oh, I've just mean everybody. But yeah, yeah, it would
be this story.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Give me and I have been dating for about a
year and a half plus at this point, okay, and
I wanted to be like the cute girlfriend who like
brings over food and like cooks dinner for him.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Right, Well, that's nice.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Yeah, that's what I intended it to be. So I
get all the food and I bring it over. This
happened on Sunday night, by the way, and he like,
I don't know, he was at the gym or something.
He's like, okay, I gotta get into the shower. Are
you all good? And you know I'm cooking in his kitchen,
which is not my first time cooking in his kitchen,
but I'm like, yeah, get out of here, go to
your thing. I don't make dinner. It's gonna be ready
in like a half hour. I was making steak, and
(01:06):
I was making it. I was gonna pan fry it,
like sear it and then put it in the oven. Okay,
I had the thermometer, I had everything ready to go,
but you got to turn the pan up kind of
high when you're searing them. Can you see where this
is going?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, a little bit. I have an idea.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I started a small fire. The pan was way too hot.
And you know, the great thing about Yimathy is that
he's got a really great security system at his house. Okay,
it's a little too good because not only is it
(01:41):
a security system, but it's also tied into the smoke detectors.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Oh I didn't know I could do that.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, ad t they do that.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
So what happened when the smoke detectors go off?
Speaker 1 (01:51):
You know, his alarm started blaring, and I know the
alarm code, so I just like ran over to the alarm,
like punched it in whatever. He's like, is everything okay,
I'm like everything's fine. I'm not gonna mention the small
fire that I currently working on in the kitchen. And
then I open the window, I turn on the fan,
(02:12):
you know, I do the whole thing. It goes off again,
and I'm like, oh, I go and I punch in
the alarm coat again. Long story short, the fire department
showed up.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh my gosh, and he's like in the shower right
so he doesn't have any clothes off, and I'm like.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Everything's fine. The fire department's here, and he's like what
and they send like ad T. I guess whenever the
smoke detector goes off, they send the fire department like
right away. But it's just like the guy in the
little like red suv with the lights on top.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
So I'm like, okay, this is fine, no big deal.
I go outside. I'm like, hey, everything's fine. I'm just cooking,
or at least attempting to. He's like, okay, no problems,
like you're good. You don't need us to come in,
Like I just need you to sign off on my report,
YadA YadA. I'm like, okay, let me, I can sign
off on the report. I just need to go turn
off the stove or whatever I'm cooking, and the guy
(03:13):
looks at me like I'm the biggest dumb dumb in
the world, Like yeah, during the stove off.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
That's such an extreme situation.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
First, I have I have some issues with this because
I don't understand the smoke detector thing, because smoke detectors
go off all the time.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Like I feel like, I know, even if you just
cook a.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Bag of popcorn, sometimes if you cook it too long,
the smoke detector's gonna go off.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Don't do it at Jim's house.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
That's wild that it's that extreme, that fast. What did he?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
So did YMYTHI come outside as the fire department is there.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Well, the guy in the little suv was like, Okay,
no big deal, sign off on my report. I just
needed your name and then we're good to go. And
then I'm like walking back outside to like sign off
on his report and here comes Engine number five on call,
like huge firetruck. Yes, full lights, full sirens. I'm standing
(04:10):
outside my boyfriend's house bright red because I'm so embarrassed.
So thank you to the Grand Rapids Fire Department for
being so vigilant and keeping us safe. So sorry to
have wasted your time on Sunday night. Thank you for
coming out anyway, I bet I bet.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
First off, I bet they go back and tell that
story the fire department. But I bet there's tons of
stories like that where people have to call uh, they
have to call fire department or police officers or whatever
for ridiculous things, and.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Then they're all confused because they're like, wait, you don't
live here, and I'm like, no, I don't. This isn't
my house. I'm like, this my boyfriend's house. He's in
the shower.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Did they ask you questions like and everything's good between
you and your boyfriend?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
No, they don't.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Okay, Well, like I'm like, I'm just cooking, Like you
can come in if you want, like check it out,
but like everything's fine, there's no active fires. I'm like
opening all the windows and trying to like fan the
smoke detector with like a kitchen towel, but I'm like
standing the wrong way, so I'm fanning the smoke at
it and not away from it.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
And the amount of times the fire department would be
at my house if it went off every time the
smoke detector went off would be insane.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Yeah, ADT is no joke, like love, It makes me
feel super safe to know that, Like if anything happened
like a fire when we were sleeping or something, that
would be great, but just my regular day to dayjananigans.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
You gotta offer him dinner at that point.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to start like taping a plastic
bag over the smoke detector when I cook, and like,
you know, I'm not a bad cook. So I was
just like super embarrassed because he was like, I leave
you alone for three minutes, but I don't. I don't
know if if this has happened to anyone or you
have a story. If you do, I would love to
hear it. It would make me feel a lot better. Six
one six two four two ninety three ninety three. What
(05:58):
started off as a t to be cute. Hey, I'll
cook dinner tonight, babe, you take the night off so nice,
you do whatever you need to do.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Wonderful.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yeah, Yimi was like, thanks so much, that's so wonderful
of you. And then you went to go get in
the shower and next thing you know, fire department showed up.
Okay wo wo whoops. The funny thing about those ADYT security.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Systems they are sensitive.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
They are sensitive, and they are tied into emergency response
services almost immediately even if you turn the alarm off,
because that's what happens. When the fire or when the
smoke detector goes off, it alerts the alarm company, and
then the alarm company calls the fire department, like right away.
So I go run over to the security turn off
the alarm. I thought I was in the clear.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Fire chief shows up in his little red sub He's like, yeah,
they call us anyway, they send us anyway, just in case.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Could you imagine the amount of times that would go off,
like in general, like how many times does your smoke
detector go off a week?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Because I feel like mine goes up at least once
or twice a week.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
We'll see. Now I'm rethinking mine because I don't think
it ever has. And now I'm like, I know they
work because I have batteries in them. But his is
like right outside of his kitchen where the stove is,
and yeah, it's it's been a while since I've set
off the smoke detectors from cooking.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
I don't think I've done it from cooking, but even
other things I've cooked popcorn too long one time. I've
there was stuff burning in the bottom of my stove
one time, or my airfire. Yeah, just random incense. Sometimes
I'll lay incense.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
And I'll set it off, so embarrassing. The shout out
to the Ground Rapids Fire Department for showing up anyways
and taking it easy on me. They didn't even make
me feel bad. They were like, okay, just want to
make sure everyone's safe. Like so nice of them.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I said, the picture you just posted of the fire
rug is the greatest.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
I'm like, just stay in the shower, everything's fine. The
fire departments here, I've got it handled. He's like, what
the fire department? He had no idea what was going on.
And also shout out to Jimmy's best friend Brian for
calling us immediately because he also gets notified when something
happens with the security system at Jimmy's house and he
was like, hey, are you guys okay? And he just
like had a brand new baby. So I felt bad
(08:10):
because I'm like, oh my god, I'm disrupting so many
people's evenings right now. Has anything like this ever happened
to you? Six one six two four two ninety three
ninety three. Good morning, b ninety three. Who's this and
where are you from?
Speaker 4 (08:25):
This is Colin. I'm from Grand Rapids.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Hi, Colin.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
So I've got a story about ADT calling the fire department. Yeah, fifteen,
my dad decided to cook some bacon and in the
process of cooking his bacon, smoke detectors went off. We
thought nothing of it, muted the smoke detectors, and the
next thing we know, ADT had called the fire department
(08:52):
and they're at the door. Same situation. First the fire
chief showed up and then here comes a big engine,
full light, bullsirens. Same situation. So you are not alone
in that one.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Oh, Colin, Thanks for Colin. I appreciate you making me
feel better on that one. So it does happen. Yeah,
but seriously, like shout out to ADT for making us
feel safe, but also like for the home chefs, those
of us who were not as skilled as we thought
we were. I mean, it was like I I kind
of wanted to downplay the severity of the situation on
(09:26):
the stove, but there were flames. There were flames.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Well yeah, I mean people should call it in their
stories because it does make you feel better. The only
time it ever happened to me? Isn't that great of
a story. But I used to print call when I
was a kid. I used to print call people, and
I didn't know. If you dialed nine one one to
prank call and just hung up, they will show up
at your house. Like if you got dial nine one
one and they answered and I like giggled or something
and hung up, they will literally show up to your house.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Has anything like this ever happened to you? Six one
six two four to two ninety three, ninety three, ninety
three Morning Show. I'm Ali Max Mike. I just wanted
to cook dinner and I ended up accidentally inviting the
fire department to dinner as well.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Whoops.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
A couple of days ago, and it wasn't even my house.
I was at Yimmi's house. I was trying to do
something nice, be like such a cute girlfriend. I got
dinner tonight, babe, so nice. Yeah, No, I think I'm suspended.
We'll just we'll get carried out from now on. That's
what we'll do. Six one, six two four to two
ninety three, ninety three.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Good morning, Welcome to the B ninety three Morning Show.
What's your Name? And where are you from?
Speaker 5 (10:31):
My name is Amber and I'm from Battle Creek.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
All right, why what's the most embarrassing reason the cops
or fire department were called?
Speaker 5 (10:39):
I immediately have a good one.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
So the story is it's around springtime a couple of
years ago, and my boyfriend and I had just moved
into our new house together for I don't know, we
had only been living with each other for about a
year and my romans who called me and she goes, hey,
cops are at your old house and they're all searching
(11:04):
for you. I was like, oh gosh, looking before me
and they're like they wouldn't tell me why I was
trying to figure out, but they at least want your
phone number to find you. So I called the cop
and he was like, yes, we we'd like to meet
with you and talk to you about some fraudulent activity.
And I was like okay. So I didn't know if
this was likely did or not. So my boyfriend and
(11:27):
I go and meet them in a public parking lot
and he says, so, you've been charging someone's credit card
for over four hundred dollars and they yeah. I was like, well,
what I didn't realize, because that's what we're on the
holidays too. I didn't realize that my coworker and I
(11:50):
had shared like a door gas account and I didn't
have my card on me, and so we use her card,
but that it was supposed to be for a one
time only things, and of course the holidays happened. We
have people over, like companies comming from out of town,
and we're just door dashing like crazy, and.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Your coworker's card was still connected. Oh this kind of stuff.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, But also it
does make me feel a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, I also wish I was at that level in
life where I wouldn't notice for a couple hundred bucks
somebody was taking money out of my account.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
It sounds like they notice and the police
