the baby Faces podcast only on iHeartRadio, powered by Kentucky
and as number one four Country ninety seven to five
w AMZ and the official sports talk radio of Louisville
Sports Talk seven ninety AM. My name is Austin Montgomery.
We are fully staffed. I know Billy likes that. Billy

(00:55):
the Kid is back and what a way to come back.
It's been a couple months since we had an episode,
and we have a huge, literally huge guest with us.
WWE superstar Drew McIntyre. Dude, how you doing today?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Manly marvelous running around like crazy and it's only nine
fifty in the morning. I've been at it for three hours,
but it's all good. I'm talking about Drew McIntyre. So
that's that's not a bad thing, talking about WW and
talking about all the arses I'm going to kick and
the title I'm going to get back, and plus it's

(01:28):
in Nashville, so yeah, inside, I'm basically a local boy.
Actually for Louisville. It's only three hours where I'm at.
We're talking about the rodin Cincinnati on the twenty fourth,
So just baron main gang. When I'm at the show,
I'm your hometown boy. Basically, I'm only a few hours
down the road.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's right. You had had a stint here in ov W.
Do you remember your time here in Louisville when you
spent here? What was that experience like when that was
a developmental territory?

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Terrifying?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Scotland'd be different now I have so many good times now.
But coming straight from Scotland, straight from university at twenty
one years.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Old and bean plucked from Scotland and.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Dropped in America, not just America and Louisville, it was
a bit of a culture shock. When I say a
bit of a culture shock, I mean I thought I
was being punked. It's a big show at the time,
Washington cultcher you know people would get punked. I was
in the restaurant by the Suburban Lodge I was staying
at when I first got there, and it was.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
A long horn.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
It was all the animal heads on the wall and
I was asking those real. I was like, yeah, they're real.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Why would you look at the hearing? And I don't understand.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
That was the first experience, and the same gentleman told
me he was related to Robert Burns, a famous Scottish poet.
Every New Year, everybody sings, you know, should all acquaintance
be forgot? You know, he's from my hometown. And I
didn't realize that's a thing yo did in America. He
wrote that, and he told that's nice. Yeah, I thought
everyone today was playing in New year in Loville. When
I first moved there in November, I was there for

(02:58):
New Year's Even it played.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
I went, oh, that's for me. No one knows me here.
I didn't realize it's a thing that he does in America.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
But yeah, nonetheless, he told me it's related to Rover
Burns told me he was saving up money to go
visit him one day, and I rushed back to the
Suburban Lodge, say it does nothing Scottish on this long
hard man. You told her the story and she said,
but he's been dead for hundreds of years. I went, yeah,
why do you think I left a freaking restaurant and
came back here?

Speaker 5 (03:22):
These people are? That was day one, only day one.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
I love it, Uh, Drew. I don't think it's any
secret that, you know, this time of year for wrestling
fans is awesome. We got the Rumble coming up, which
obviously starts, you know, the road to WrestleMania. I always
kind of relate it to, you know, for just a
casual person, how Thanksgiving is the Christmas you know, Thanksgiving
kind of kicks off the Christmas festivities. That's kind of
how the Rumble feels for wrestling fans. So is that

(03:46):
kind of the same vibe that that's in the locker
room this time of year round?

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I mean, the Rumble's huge, and every year it just
seems to get bigger and bigger. But yeah, it's officially
many a season. But fortunately you can't just eat a
bunch of food and chill out. Yeah, you know, you gotta. Yeah,
I mean after the Rumble you can, I guess, but
you got to get in game shape and the Rumble,
especially if you're in there for a long time, like

(04:12):
I've been in there for you know, lengthy periods and
rumbos a twenty thirty minutes and you know, I ended
up winning the thing a couple of times. It takes
it out of you when you're in there for that
long and it's you know a lot of try to
pick people up over the top row, a lot of
actions that really really wear you out. So you got
to train and get ready for there's tens of thousands
of people there, and you know, if you win that one,

(04:32):
you get the big.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Big shot at Mania.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
And if you don't win it, you want a good
showing at Rumbo to go into something interesting on the
following television and Raw SmackDown, because, as you say, it's
the road to WrestleMania and you want to start on
the right foot to get a big match of wrestling.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
So we speaking of Roll Rumble, and like you said,
you're no stranger to it. Actually a winner of the
twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Roll Rumble right before the whole world went.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
To crap with COVID. If we can kind of explain
like the vibes leading up to Roll Rumble and what
how can you compare this year's to twenty twenty when
you know you're you're winning the Roll Rumble and the
lead up to that is what what was different and
what kind of feels similar to what it was five
years ago?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
I mean when it went, it was about the only
similar thing.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Now, you know, I'm established one a bunch of world
titles which I hadn't won any of at the time,
and you know, especial for the past year kind of
summated myself at the.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Top of the industry. M back then they had leading
into row them with twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
As long as I've been going, as much as I
feel like I've achieved, I was still trying to smash
through that that ceiling to get to that next level.
And Roy Rumble was the night it kind of officially happened,
you know, just they just kicked through the ceiling. They
kicked through Lesnar's face, which was essentially the ceiling and
you know, eliminate him from the Rumble, which when I
came out, I was on a little bit of a

(05:59):
run of the time, I you know, beating a few
people kind of quick and a chance of the mic
to show about my real personality.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
Rather than angry Scottish man that I've been for a
couple of years.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
And when I eliminated not just when I eliminate Broke,
when I came out like people stood up, which was
interesting because I wasn't doing anything to make you think
mcintary is gonna eliminate Broke, Lesler and Broken eliminate half
the rumble at that point. But people just had a
vibe in the air. Whatever it is, the presence you know,
I give off, or the just the physical aspect. A
lot of guys are small these days. I'm a bigger guy.

(06:29):
I can match up to Brock.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
Whatever it was. People come up on their feet like
something's going to happen.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
And then when Brock Eliminade, hearing that reaction so positive
was awesome.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
But by yea again.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
I've been in there for a long time. Edge returned
after a nine year absence. I've seen people turn on Rumbles.
I've seen them turn on you know, Roman reigns and
boom when he's a good guy, when he's won the thing.
I've seen the same thing happen to Batista, and you
know they want Edge to win. He'd been gone for
a long time and there's a chance it's gonna happen

(07:00):
to myself, but it was pretty wild to hear that
when I want it In the end, they reacted just
as big as they did. And when I eliminated Brock earlier,
and that was the night where I really stepped up
to that next level. And you know, these days I
have that label, but I'm still challenging myself, pushing myself
and you know, how can I not just be on

(07:21):
top but get to the next stage, because there's always
a next stage together.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
To Yeah, that Rumble was certainly memorable. I definitely enjoyed
seeing you win that one. It was a big moment.
But you know this this year, you mentioned like the
fan favor and how they've been turned on sometimes, but
I think the perennial fan favorite in this year's match
is definitely gonna be John Cena as he announces, you know,
his quest for his seventeenth world title, which would be

(07:45):
the all time record. I cut the promo on Roll
on Monday, announcing his intentions to not only be in
the Rumble but also win. I'm sure there's a lot
of superstars on the roster. They'll have a couple of things,
say about that though, including yourself. So you know, what
do you have to say to John Cena on his
quest to win a seventh team good luck?

Speaker 3 (08:03):
All I care about is at one time in the
microphone with them, and I won that one on one match,
and I'm gonna make it happen one way or another.
And let's just hope he doesn't end up in the
ring with me in the rumbull because the last person
had got in my way to the rumbull last year.
That was a cheat em in too Maina Van WrestleMania
was cmpunk and Notori's trizip off the bone, So I

(08:24):
maybe asked, you know, pick the muscle, pick the bone,
because I'm tearing our breaking.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Choose your opponents wisely, Sena. You heard it here on
the baby Faces First you don't not want to match
up with Drew McIntyre once again. We got Drew McIntyre
on the show Babyfaces podcast on iHeartRadio. They're going to
become in WW Monday Night. We're All is going to
be come into their Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati February
twenty fourth year. Grab tickets at ticketmaster dot com. Before that,
they're heading no Lucasol Stadium in Indianapolis February first, to

(08:53):
kick off that month. Tickets also still available at limited time. Drew,
I want to talk about your last year and I know,
you know, some great wins, some tough losses. But the
very fun thing that me and Billy always seem to
agree about the great thing and the most special thing
about pro wrestling is being able to transcend your character
and to continue evolving and stay relevant. And you've been

(09:13):
able to do that, especially in the New Age to
where you've cut some of your most passionate promos in
the last year and a half. And you've also been
relentless on Twitter. You've had a handful of moments on there.
You're a meme king. Some people call you a troll.
As we move on to the more unscripted nature of Netflix,
what are you most looking forward to and to continue
to develop that next chapter of Drew McIntyre going.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
Forwards, saite to see what comes next. I have no
plan as such.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
I was I started trying new things, pushing boundaries and
you know, making sure that it's not just I'm playing
a character on TV. It's like this is who I am.
Some things of the volume up, but I can go
all across TV, social, these interviews right now and still
be the same person because that's who I am. And
I see a lot of people starting to mimic I

(10:02):
know what I did, and on television with the truth telling.
Then I'm on social with the kind of style of
a do interviews, et cetera. So it means all right, cool,
it's working a few copycats.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
That's fine, just means I up my game.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I try different things, and maybe I go live and
a couple of interviews and I get a few things
bounce around my head. But it's more when I see
an opportunity, I do it. I don't sit there and
you know, plan out.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
I got into this here. I go to do this here.
When I feel something, I do it.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
If I'm in a car, feel something, I'll cut a
promo off in the gym, I feel this right now.
Tell my wife start filming. I'm going to say some stuff.
It's a cool thing about right now. There's a lot
going on. There's a lot of feelings. There's a lot
inside and there always has been, you know, all this
creative energy I have that I wasn't able to be
able to get out the environment I was in and
now it's an environment that encourages creativity, and the last

(10:53):
thing I'm going to do is hold it in. I'm
going to let it out in every possible way I
can and deal with the repercussions.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
I think it's safe to say, Drew, you are one
of the top contenders to win the Rumble this year
and go on to WrestleMania to compete for a world championship,
which you did last year. You competed for a world
championship at WrestleMania forty. One of the more iconic social
media videos that we have is Austin filming the Damian
Priest cash in and then it pans to me and
I'm just sitting there, like no way that just.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Was.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I was pulling for you so hard, dude. I was
all in on your road to WrestleMania, and I loved
that moment of seeing you win the title only for
it to be taken away just minutes later. So how
does that fuel you going in to this year's WrestleMania.
So it's a come out not only win the championship
this time, but but keep it for for months on end.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Yeah, I mean that's the ultimate go.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Let's get the title, and I'll hold it for as
long as I can possibly hold it right now, a
very specific goals I'd mentioned. You know my immediate focus
is not the titles. You know, I win the rumble. Okay,
how I can pick whatever champion I want. It's not
a priority right now. I'll pick it when maybe I'll
pick it in then aight of WrestleMania. I'm focused on
taking out people that have wronged me, and which is

(12:02):
the members of the o Og bloodline. I made it
very clear targeting right now and whatever happened to all
last week, lasn excuse contact high had me distracted. Jake
got quick, a quick roll up and I beat him
ten times on TV before he beat me one time
with a flick wind.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Does it make him bear?

Speaker 3 (12:21):
No?

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Does it mean well he got me that quick?

Speaker 3 (12:23):
When I guess it's all over after everything he caused
me and my family, I would just let it go.
I'm gonna target Him'm gonna target his family. That's my
priority right now. Win the rumble. I know I've about
the match in Menia, and to continue taking everybody out
that I want to take out.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Do what I feel like doing, see what I feel
like saying then win the title.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
For those watching on YouTube that this was the reaction
if you can see me at WrestleMania like, no way,
Drew McIntyre just got cash in on I was. I
was so disappointed. So hoping for a better, better result
for you this year.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
Buddy, appreciate that that five minutes prior it was perfect though.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Yes it was. It was a great moment.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, well, Drew, once again, thank you so much for
taking your time out of your busy day to come
on the show. We really appreciate it. For fans that
are looking to buy tickets to go to the Monday
night RAW that's going to be in Cincinnati here about
another month and a half. What can fans expect now
that we're all on Netflix and when people come out
to Cincinnati and they see Drew McIntyre if it's their
first time coming, what can people expect from a live

(13:20):
WW show.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
From seeing me?

Speaker 3 (13:24):
You're gonna get a visual thrill with your eyes if
you're there alive mind women, an Shaw, what everyone everything
to see your McIntyre live Wow, bigger and jackedon, handsome
in person. The you're on TV. So there's that for
a start. I'm gonna kick some rs beare than anyone
else is also that. But for the rest of the show,
everyone's bringing their a game. We're in February, we're getting

(13:46):
towards Wrestlmingia were Manias season. Everybody is really up in
their game because they want to be on WrestleMania and
with the Netflix I am the show's gone right now.
Every show has been trigued, you know, like a ple
e as it should be. So if you miss it,
you're gonna miss out. If you don't know already, you know,
we're for everybody. We're pg raid if there's a character

(14:07):
for everybody and you'll connect to be it one of
the guys, the girls. The spectacle of the entrances are
so amazing to see live and the tickets, you know,
are so cheap.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
When it comes to, you know, taking your family out
for a night out and.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
At the water cool of the next day when everyone's
talking about the wrestling and you're gonna be like, damn,
I should have went along. Your kid tells me, heym,
you're doing you love me by needing me to the wrestling.
Everyone's talking to the wrestling. Your kid wasn't there. You're
gonna have to feel like a bad here, so get
to the show. So don't let your kids miss out,
and don't you miss out either.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Thank you so much again, Drew McIntyre. We appreciate you
coming on the show. One of the biggest guests that
we've had on the show. Whi's truly an honor to
have you. We look forward to seeing you at the Rumble.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
Remember Definite Records on the side. So I'm working on.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Oh heck yeah, working on my album that's right straight
out of Compton Baby Yet I love, I love to
hear it. Well, Drew, you good luck in the world Rumble,
good luck going forward. Thank you for everything that you've
done and everything that you sacrifice for not only our
entertainment but millions of wrestling fans around the world. And

(15:11):
we look forward to seeing big things from me out
of twenty twenty five, Buddy.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
I appreciate you, guys. Thanks so much to see you
all in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Thanks, ma'am.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
