Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey, folks, Maama Brown here from the Bama Brown Experience.
Thank you for listening to our podcast. I appreciate it
so much.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
You can get that on the iHeart podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Network, where there's three hundred thousand other podcasts, and several
of them, I think it is one hundred of them
have over me. And they say it's mostly crime and dramas,
though if you're looking for that kind of thing, just
check out all the app there iHeart podcasts. Speaking of
another great show, I've got the Big Cat, the Big Puma,
who's actually played college basketball, and I think early on
(00:34):
he was like, Florida's gonna have it, They're gonna.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Get it all, and you're right about that.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Now you can hear his Sports Cave podcast on iHeart
or anywhere actually.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Right, yeah, anywhere you get your podcasts. We, of course,
as proper company men, prefer you use the iHeartRadio app,
but we're not going to hold it against you if
you don't. Anywhere you get your podcasts, just search for
the Sports Cave with Biggest Puma.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I saw this survey and the first thing it jumped
out at me is this is the most unnecessary survey,
but they've done it. For years. It's been going I
don't know how many years have been doing this. Uh,
they surveyed a hundred thousand Americans for a long period
of time and it turns out now, but you didn't
know this, But I don't think anybody knew this was
(01:21):
pretty crazy. If you eat fruits and vegetables instead of
sugars and red meat, you'll be a lot healthier.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Okay, really, I mean this is about what I come
to expect from any of these mass you know, government surveys.
It's like, oh, a big go Yeah, Rabbits like to
get frisky, like that's why the question is what teenagers
or horned? No way, like, we've spent all of this
money to tell us this. Okay, yeah, I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Strippers really love you, really, they really want to go
home with you, but they can't because they're at work.
This this was a survey of folks, men and women
in their forties, feetifties, and sixties. And they said, now
here was an interesting This I thought was pretty interesting.
They said, if you eat the you know, the vegetables,
the whole grains, that kind of thing, less sugars or
(02:11):
less red meat, that even if you smoke, are not active.
You're still going to be healthier if you eat better,
even though if you don't do any of the things
that go with it. So they said, you know, the
exercise course helps. If you don't smoke, don't start, you know,
but if you do, I mean your everybody else will
go thank god he's still smoking, because he's so much
(02:31):
easier to get along with. And then you'll put on
weight the minute you quit smoking. So I think everybody
I know has done that. Anybody I know that quit
smoking put weight.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
On so instantly.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
It feels like you quit.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
You say you're gonna quit smoking, and then the next
morning you wake up twenty pounds heavier.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
That was the thing that was interesting. You could gain
a pound a day if you aren't careful.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You know. I used to weigh three hundred and thirty
some pounds. I'm one to ninety eight right now. But
the doctor told me, he said, you could gain a
pound a day if you aren't careful, you know, I mean,
if you.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Don't watch it. I watch it every way, every day.
I watch it every day. I watch what I eat.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I still eat bad here and there, But uh, if
you can cut back and so and the other thing
was if you'll slow down while you're eating. Now, that
just sounds simple and like it doesn't you know, you go, oh,
of course, but you know nobody does. But when you
slow down, get full quicker, and you don't eat as much.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
So yeah, again, I feel like there's a there's a
Goldilocks zone between you know, eating like a North Korean
citizen at KFC for the first time, versus.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
The way my wife.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I mean, she you could put you could put a
sandwich in front of her, and if she could, if
she would drag it out for three hours, I mean
it would be a bite every ten minutes, and that
it drives me insane when we'll be out at dinner
and it's like I'm I am intentionally trying not to
eat fast, and somehow it makes me feel like I've
(04:00):
just scarf my food down. When I look over and
see how much she has left.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
That's amazing She's able to do that. Now.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
See me, mine, My achilles heel is Aese's cup. They
came to me and they said, you can eat Reese's
cups the rest of your life if you'll stab this person.
And I'll go, okay, how many times you want?
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I'm stabbed.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I mean in what part of the body, anywhere anytime,
as long as I get the Reese's cups. And the
thing is, if I don't get Recei's cups, there's a
good chance I'll probably stab somebody.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
So the alcohol, I think is either way, it feels.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Like somebody's asses get stabs.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
And I'm either getting Reese's out of the deal or
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Going to get stabbed.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
It's good to know, you know, as a unfortunately as
a smoker myself, it's good to know that all of
this fish that I eat is at least helping offset
some of these.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You're very thin, You've stayed very fit.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
You played college basketball, so you you know about fitness
to stay and fit and great.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
I saw those pictures the other day at the basketball game.
You looked really good.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
It's good to be tall, I'll put it that way,
because you can hide a lot of weight when you're
like I'm now clocking in right at you know, two
twenty one fifteen.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
You look anywhere near that much. You're six what.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Six, like six four six five four and a half
or so. But I when I when I quit playing
basketball in college, I instantly went from about this side.
I went from about two twenty all the way up
to two eighty plus. And it was over the course
of about three months. And all of a sudden, I
(05:48):
didn't realize I was getting so heavy. Yeah, And just
one morning, UH looked in the mirror and was like,
good lord, what has happened to me?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Like where you don't know?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
I remember when Alex was used to run five miles
a day, and then Alex was born, and then the
next thing I knew, I was three hundred and thirty pounds.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
And I'm serious if you want to see it.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
And this is not a plug for the for the
Calatrin people that sell the I do their ads on
the radio. So let me just say this. It's a
product that works help me lose weight. I'm not doing
an ad here. But what you want to do is
go check out their website. I can't think of what
it is there. I won't give the website just a Catrin.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
How about that.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
I'll tell you know, this isn't a paid plug.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah, and our pre written show it's top of theworld.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Dot com is their website. And the only reason I'm
sending you to this is There's a picture on there
of me at three hundred and thirty pounds standing next
to Kenny Chesney, who's already you know, like I'm six
right at six feet, he's about five five five four
somewhere in there. But he's looking at me like I'm
about to eat him. I mean, is it he is
(06:58):
a He just looks like me had a deal where
I got a kid with me, you know, and he's
a great guy. Did you know you're all rumors over
the years about all that gay and all that.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I don't know about any of that. I never cared.
Didn't marry me.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Uh but I do know that one time we had
a make a wish girl that wanted to meet him,
and I was part of the wish, and uh I
went to him there.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
It was cool. We this girl and I took her
to a concert in a hummer. I mean it was
like a date. You know. She was maybe maybe twelve.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Love Kenny Chesney and we go back they said it
that where we can go backstage and I'm with her
and I go up to him and because you know,
kind of knew him from when he started, and I said,
I said, man, she could have went to Disney World.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
You wanted to meet your ass. I can't believe she's
using her wish.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
For that, and he literally, and I'm not kidding, he
started crying. It was it was amazing, and he was
it meant that much to him and so, but what
I really thought was awesome was her Cavett listeners. I
was on Cavett and our listeners all figured out that
it was a Make a Wish kid and the fan
club was back there lined up getting ready to get autographs,
and they all moved over against the wall it was,
(08:06):
and just gave them, I don't know, twenty minutes, just
him and her because they knew, they realized what was
going on. They saw me and they kind of knew,
you know, because I did a lot to Make a Wish,
but to see them all are and I'm talking about
one hundred people just move over and line up against
the wall quietly while Kenny Chisney and her did you
know she got her wish?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
It was so awesome.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I was so proud of her listeners, man, and this
and not all of our listeners, but folks are there's
great people out there. Anyway, he blew her a kiss
while he was singing and stuff, and it was it
was really neat, but uh, it was a I think
it was a great wish.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
And she by a guy, is still alive. She made it. Yeah,
and that doesn't it doesn't happen very often.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
You got to get by a doctor to get to
do the wish, you know, And and uh, it wasn't
looking good there at the time. And now she's in
her forties. I think I haven't I haven't kept up
with her in a while, but she's probably close to
forty five now, maybe something like that.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
So very good, very yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
I was, of course naturally hesitant to ask because the
odds were.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Yeah, you know, we're forty four counties. I haven't done
any thing with them, and I did so much of it,
and it was emotionally draining.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I was on three wishes and I got to do.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Three wishes with them, but the forty four counties it
encompassed usually about fifty five fifty six wishes, and we
were able. We had two kids that got the sat
in the Oval Office, one under President Bush two w
and one under one under Obama, and both of them
(09:44):
they got to go into the into the uh White House.
They had to go they got to go into the
Oval Office, and both of them said, well, you got
to sit in the chair.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I mean, that's the deal. You got to sit in
the chair.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
So we have pictures of both of them at the
in the Oval Office sitting in the President's chair.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
And as you know, Obama and NW both got behind that.
And that was cool.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
But we had over one time, we had done over
six thousand wishes. I mean we were I was very
proud of that we did. We raised a lot of
money and a lot of wishes.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
And you if you sent one of the kids to
the Oval Office, now they'd get to use the diet
coke button.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
If I was.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
A kid, like I'm pushing I'm pushing the button, not
a nuclear code button. I want to push the diet
coke button.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
You're gonna love this other wish I got. This was cool.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I get a call from the captain from the highway
patrol guy I knew, and I've worked with a guy,
uh with them that was their media guy, and uh
he uh he called me in and he said, hey,
he said, uh, you get your dream come true.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
We've got a little kid that wanted to be a
highway patrolman.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
We got him in a uniform of thing, and we're
gonna give him a fake police chase. So we went
out on Decker Lake where the Rodeo is here up
in the Austin area.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
You've been out there there about the power plant. But
there's a you know that that Decker.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Road is several miles long, is straight, not a lot
of traffic, or back then it wasn't. And so he
and this guy were in a Z twenty eight. That's
how long ago this was when I was black and white.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Z twenty eighth.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Oh yeah, and Gerald did I with Trowman And they
go on the radio and they go suspect vehicle. And
I was in a Beanie Boy Dodge. I'm in my
Dodge pick up and Rob with with me, my partner radio.
We're riding up and down Decker Road and uh so
he he tells.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Him, He goes, well, we're not far from there. Let's
go over there.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
You know, everybody knew it was gonna be a fake
radio call. So this kid's riding along with him and
he he he says, they're driving up Decker Road and
he goes, that looks like the truck right there. So
they pull us over you know, and and Gerald walks
up to the window and I go, He looks at
me and I go.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Kiss my ass.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
He like, you're gonna get to say that to.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
A site moment too, what's awesome.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
He started grinted because he, you know, he didn't want
the kid to see it. So we peel out in
this ram. We're like, we take off and he runs
back there. Now the kids stayed in the car, and
so he gets in the car with the kid and
they take off after us.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
So we're driving at it now. We're not doing real
high speed, but it's enough that makes the kid, you know, believe.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
So we're meeting two coming the other way, and i'd
spin around in traffic, you know, well there's no traffic,
but I spin around and I come back this way.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Lights and sirens blowing on these things. Okay, Jerald said this.
This little guy was having the time of his life. Man.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
And so, uh, I think he was twelve. He was
either eleven or twelve somewhere in there. But he had
the full uniform to hat everything. Man.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
They fixed him up. So we're going down.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
We go down the road, just coming back this way,
and a man actually pulled over on the side of
the road and got out and was standing on his
hood to watch this police chap. I'll never forget that
he isn't involved. He just I want to see this show.
And then yeah, and so we go by and now
there's three highway patrol chasing us. So then we go
down and we make another turnaround because here comes two
(13:10):
from the other direction and so now I got five
igh of patrol chasing this.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Well.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Gary Parker, that was the media guy from from the
Highay Patrol from DPS.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Gary pulls up beside me and he goes, he's got.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
His deal on, and he goes, Okay, let's let's pull
over up here to the entrance and we'll make the arrest.
I mean, we're gonna do an arrest and everything. And
so I told Rob, I said, I gotta do it again,
and I give him the finger.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
You know, blank you blank you.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
And he comes on his radio on his speaker and
he goes, I still have my gun.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Just let you know there there is a limit for this.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
So we we pull in there, they all pull in
and and they let the little kid get on the
speaker and he goes, driver step out, driver back, come back,
you know, on your knees and they cuffed me and
he was scared. Didn't want me to ride in the
car with him, so down with with Gary, but they
gerald him. They meet me at the jail and Margot
Fraser was our sheriff at the time.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Margot comes walking out, she goes, we men looking for
this guy right here.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
We've been trying to and so they fingerprinted me, you know,
and then he took me back there and they and
they locked me in a cell and I told Margot,
I said, you get my ass out of the cell.
I don't know enough.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, this is like I agreed to this, but now
y'all are taking advantage of me, and I see what's happening.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
She goes, this has all been a ruse. We've been
trying to do this anyway. But we got out. I
got out, and then uh then we uh they told
him said, well it was a big misunderstanding. He has
paid all his fines and that kind of thing, so
you know, and then we shook hands and went off
his pals and that he had the time of his
life and that was that was pretty awesome. So I'll
(14:52):
never forget these these wishes and stuff that we did
it was. It was a great time our life and
radio and the Cave D listeners and case listeners.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
They did fantastic for that. So anyway, I thought you
would enjoy that story.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
It's the Bama Brown Podcast on the iHeart podcast network.
