Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, guys, Kevin Powell here once again changed the location.
Got tired of sitting down, but that's okay. It's a
very beautiful day. Loudered in Life in Louisville, Kentucky, and
I'm here with I'm Kyle O.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Brady's from dead Lands.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm Casey Carlson from Deadlands.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
C Jerry also from dead Lands. What all do you
guys do in the band?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
I played drums, I sing and scream and stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I play guitar. I also produce as well.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Awesome, So what does it mean for you guys to
be playing at a festival this size?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Loudered in Life. It's been amazing.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
We played last year, our crowd was pretty big last year,
but today exceptional. We played to the biggest crowd we've
ever played to. We've been taken care of. Danny Wimmer
has been amazing with everything, so incredible experience.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah, it's been absolutely unreal like. The fans have been absolutely,
absolutely amazing. The staff has been great.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
We just always feel so taken care of at the
DWP fests, and we're just so happy to be here
and so happy to know that people are enjoying what
we're doing. And you know the crowd that we had
absolutely showed that and we're super proud of that. We're
just so glad people are enjoying it.
Speaker 6 (01:08):
To say the least, this experience has brought tears to
my eyes. This has been like one of the best
experiences of my life. Playing on that stage was incredible.
So this is it's been amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
So for you guys, was this I know you said
last year? Is this the only DWP festival you guys
have done?
Speaker 4 (01:25):
This is our only DWP fest yet we are playing
after Shock in October.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Okay, So have you guys done previous festivals not DWP,
or previous shows not DWP.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yes, we did Summerfest this year. We had the pleasure
of Blue Ridge Rock Fest last year.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Ah okay, we can talk about that in a minute,
all right.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
So I bring this up because this is my third
or fourth year doing stuff for DWP. Every time I
do it, I keep ramping things up. This is more professional.
I have a video guy. Now it's a whole thing. Anyways,
So you're new, you're new. I was able to bring
in my nice camera instead of using my phone the
entire time, etcetera, etceteracea. So I'm not trying to sound
(02:10):
like I'm kissing ass. That's not what we're doing. That's
what the kind of guy I am. But I've been
a plenty of my own festivals. I just had this
conversation with Finger eleven. They've played plenty of their own
festivals as well. DWP top notch? How do they handle
the artists side of things?
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:24):
My god, everything is top notch. We have nothing to
complain about from the moment even last year, from the
moment we got into the festival, to artists parking, to catering,
to playing the show, to just being taken care of overall,
top notch experience.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Couldn't couldn't complain about a thing.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
I say it all the time. I always say.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
That, like the dwpfests are so dialed, you know, like
they really do not mess anything up, and you you
they always know where they're going. Everybody's so nice and hospitable,
like it's it's crazy.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Danny Wimmer sets a bar that is impossible to surpass.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Enough, okay, Danny, coming for you, no kidd, So Blue
Rich Rock Fest.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I need to know about this. Was it last year? Yes?
The disaster year right?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, the one with no refunds. See yuh goodbye. Did
you guys get to play?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
We opened the festival.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
We got to play.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
I believe it rained right after our set, and that
like the Thursday we played got canceled. I believe Friday
went on and then I think the other two days
got canceled. Don't quote me on it, but we did
get to play. Yes, yeah, we we opened the festival.
I think we played at.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Like twelve o'clock on the dot, okay, and it was insane, man,
I mean we we I remember the adrenaline just pumping
through all of us. CJ got very sappy after it,
and I mean listen, like for what it was blue
rich for us and at least for the people who
got to see our set, Like in that moment, everybody
(03:56):
seemed like they were having a good time, enjoying themselves.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
So, I mean, it's a shame what happened after the fact,
but we are very happy and very privileged to know
that we did play that festival.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
Yeah, honestly, like Blue Ridge was very fun, like experience wise,
like on stage, like just playing in front of people. Obviously,
I got emotional because this bar, this this band has
you know, come a very long way in a very
short amount of time. But I mean after playing something
like Louder than Life, it's it gets a little hard to,
(04:31):
you know, to succeed that.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
So as you guys grow as a band, you're gonna
have the good, the bad, the ugly, the whatever. And
you know, so now you can you can share that
experience with your friends and the podcast and everybody else.
So when it comes to Louder than Life, you guys,
you know, have fun today. Do you guys have any
chances to check out any of the other bands playing today?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Absolutely, Yeah. We got to check out Jigsaw Youth earlier.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
And my new best friends.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, they were incredible. Therefore, Staten Island. We're from Long Island,
so we're all in New York. So they were incredible.
His first time I got to see them live. I've
heard about them for years, so that was super sick.
And we'll be around all day checking out bands, and
I'm sure all weekend we're gonna be what are.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Supposed to be up. Let's see what happens, weather permitting.
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
I asked that question because there are a lot of
great bands for loudan Life this year.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Oh yeah, some forty one being one of them. I'm
so excited.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, tell me, tell me your favorites on this fest.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Oh my god, Well I have to see Some forty one.
I'm really mad that I didn't get to see Finger eleven,
but you know.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
I also got to miss Finger eleven unfortunately holding absence
I missed as well. I was super excited for them
Some forty one. I'm gonna see later obviously, slipknot. We've
gotten to play a few fests with them. Louder than Life.
I believe Blue.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Ridge, don't.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I don't know if they played Blue Ridge, but we
played with them a few times, so okay, excited to
see them again.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
But tons of great bands Hailstorm. I literally met Lizzie
and she is so absolutely sweet. I cannot believe that anyway.
Speaker 6 (06:00):
I am actually really stoked about Highly Suspect. I think
they're okay, fucking awesome, like really really great band. I've
been listening to them forever. I also believe they're also
a New York band as well. They're awesome. Johnny is
like top tier, So yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
We got we have to catch them.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Reach New York City also killed it, by the way,
you guys, reach I.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Keep looking at the guy from Reach.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
He's right over there, and I have to interview him
at some point. Schedule is all messed up. Anyways. Wait
for this plane to go right by the International Airport
here in Kentucky, so you're gonna hear a lot of
planes in the background. When it comes to prep for
something like Louder than Life, each band has different experiences.
(06:47):
You know, you guys played last year. Some bands have
never played. Bands like Finger Eleven have played multiple shows.
They didn't really have a lot of prep work. They
just they knew what to do and how to do it.
I'm sure you guys have your own pre show rituals,
maybe a little bit.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
I mean, I think the biggest thing for us is that,
like whether we're playing in front of one hundred thousand
people or one person, like we always want to give
the same amount of energy to every single show. You know,
we from from the Anita camp because I also do
vocals for Nita Strauss. She does this thing that she
also took from Alice Cooper where she says fuck it,
(07:24):
like you put your hands in and on three you
say fuck it, and it's just a reminder to be like,
you know, listen, like, there's good shows, there's bat shows,
but fuck it, we're out there having fun.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
We're out there doing the thing, so that's what's most important.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Yeah, and last year when we played this festival, it
was the first time we got to like set up
on a drum rise or things like that.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
So experience from last year really helped us this year.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Quick and easy setup again, the DWP stuff is so
easy just to get there and set up and play
your show. It just made things so flawless. We set up,
we do our little ritual and we have a great show.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
It was so fun today.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Yeah, honestly like this so we're actually you know, we're
hopping on our first ever national US tour. Like after this,
this is like the first of many shows and this
this is like a long drive and preparing mentally, it
was definitely like a lot. You know, this is this
is like a big chunk of our lives. You know,
(08:22):
we've never done something this long, and to uh, to
start on such a good note was like such a refresher.
You know, we were we were definitely really nervous about
being out for this long and you know, playing these
big festivals again. We're also playing after shock as well.
But for the first day, this is like an absolute
breath of fresh air. The experience has been beyond incredible.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Tell me about this tour. Who's playing? Where are you going?
So sorry, same time, everybody the same time, going, same time.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
So we're gonna be we have two tours.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
The first, like is gonna have Oxymorons and we're gonna
be going everywhere from New York to la which is insane.
That's our first time doing that, right, It's gonna be
our first time in Calli, our first time in Arizona.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Vegas, you name it.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
And then on the second leg, we're gonna be going
out with Renaissance, who is do you know David Benitez Extreme.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Vocal Institute name Sounds of Mood Yeah yeah, yah, okay yeah,
ran in him at a incarceration.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yea, Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
He's amazing. So it's his band.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
So then I think we're going as far down south
as Tennessee and it's gonna be fucking awesome.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
It's gonna be crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
That sounds awesome. Yeah, that's wow. I'm happy for you, guys,
Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Let's see what's going on in the dead Lands camp.
What's coming up for the last the rest of twenty
twenty four, maybe twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
So recently, we've just signed with spine Farm. They've been
an incredible record label. We're gonna wrap up the rest
of our first I don't know what I want to
call it, a music, body of music.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
We're gonna wrap that up this year. Again.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
We're doing our first national tour right now, our North
America tour, I'll say rather, but we're gonna we're gonna
put that out sometime very soon and we'll be playing
some big shows.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, we got some music. We got some music.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
We've been working hard, like we there was a time
where we were working on like three songs a week.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Like so, yeah, yeah it was. It was definitely busy.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
But we are making sure that we are giving the
best product possible and we have we have some insane
shit behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
It's gonna be insane.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Okay, Old Seas, I like it. How about I asked
this question for every band. What advice would you give
to a band just starting out or someone that's trying
to break through no longer being a local band, any
advice at all?
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Don't give up, like live your passion. Like we we
all started out because we had a love of music.
CJ grew up playing guitar hero every day of his life.
Casey grew up screaming and singing. I grew up playing
drums from the ages of like eight years old. Even like,
just live your dream, don't don't let anyone stop you,
and have fun with it. If you if you truly
(11:05):
love something and you can develop an amazing work ethic,
it is like guaranteed that you will succeed. I promise
consistency is one thousand percent key.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Anyone can do this.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
And honestly, like if I could tell my younger self
that I was gonna be standing here now, I would
not believe it.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
I'd be in tears.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
I think for me, since you know both of you
guys gave the best answers possible, I would probably say.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Just.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Make sure that you are doing this because you love it,
not because you want the fame, not because you want
the money, not because you want anything else, but just
because you love it. And anything that you put your
mind to that you want, you want it that bad
you will get it. And you do your research, you learn,
you learn the industry inside and out.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
And you could accomplish anything that you want.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Many final words, you guys want to stay to fans.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
I love you, thank you for checking us out, and
thank you DWP.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
We love all of you.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, thank you, thank you so much for having us on.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
By the way, than this is my passion. I love
it so dude, it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
You're you're doing a wonderful job.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
So and thank you guys for watching, Thank you for
filming you It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Oh you guys, Thank you guys so much.
Speaker 6 (12:23):
This has been absolutely incredible.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Absolutely these guys are deadlands. You gotta check them out
after shock. You got plenty of stuff coming up. Thanks
for checking this out. Check these guys out. We'll see
you
