Speaker 1 (00:00):
Interview after interview after interview, and I love it. It
has been a great day Allowed in Life Day one,
A lot of great bands on this. I am sitting
with Finger eleven. How are you guys doing very very
very yes.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Very good, very good. I got yes, very good, many.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Very How does it feel to play Loud in Life
twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Well, the day like our tour bus, out of all
the tour buses that are back here, ours has parked
right behind the stage. So I basically opened my eyes
to the thumping kick drum of sound check, and so
I've been in the concert since I woke up. And yeah,
when we hit the stage, I was expecting like, oh,
there'll be like, you know, a crowd of people who
are really early in hardcore. But there's a massive, massive

(00:45):
crowd as far as you can see. You. Okay, this
is this is an amazing day so far. Yeah, and
you're still waking up, you know what you say, twenty
twenty four.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
But this is the first for us. We've never been
here before, so this was while we've heard about it, you.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Know, but uh, it felt good. It felt like we
rose to the occasion, like the crowd wanted it, and
we had the right I don't know, there's that synergy.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
It was good. How about DWP festivals in general, is
this is your first DWP one?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
It is? We may have done one like somewhere, but
really this, Yeah, this is a shot there.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
So there's so many now. I think they keep growing too.
What are your first impressions?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Incredible? Yeah, incredible. We've done a lot of festivals.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Over the years. If I wish I had more thumbs,
that's a good.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Way to play it. I've worked a couple of these
so far. It might be my fourth one now, first
time in Louisville, first time at LOWD in life, I
recognize a lot of great people, a lot of great staff.
This isn't me kissing ass. This is not me, you know,
trying to get my way up. However, plenty of festivals,
plenty isshoes, top notch across the board.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, it feels like it top notch.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Catering's phenomenal. And the line up, I mean, let's be
honest to line up if.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
When I saw her name on the thing, like, is
there any bands that are is there any other concerts
going on in the country that it seems like everyone's here?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, people have come from all over. Are you guys
able to watch any of the bands this weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Tonight?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Tonight? Okay, so what bands are you excited for today?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Slipknot, slip Stop for absolute sure, I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, have you guys seen the full lineup? What's that?
Have you guys seen the full lineup all all the day?
Like the lineup, like, have you seen? Yeah? Yeah, but
we're not the whole.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
We're not gonna be I didn't give myself false excitement
because we're not gonna be able to see the like Slayer.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
It's just about to mention Slayer one of a couple
of shows and they're here this weekend, so you can
imagine the people coming from all over, not just Kentucky,
not just West Virginia, not just local, but like California
and Nebraska and wherever.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, absolutely Canada, Canada. But yeah no, I mean honestly, like,
we would have loved to stay in watch everything. But
to see Slipknot is a special thing because we saw
him on their first record back in Toronto, like smaller okay,
you know, like maybe a two thousand seater. Yeah, and
it was awesome, there's no question, but they've evolved into
such a thing now that.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
I haven't seen see that in the big the big show.
There's got to be fire and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
By now, speaking of evolved, you guys have been around
however long, and you know, I don't quite know the
year that you guys started, but things have changed, you know,
not just for music, but maybe personally or anything like that.
Tell me the difference between you know, year one a
year now.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
I mean, I mean, honestly, there's there's actually a very
similar feeling still in the band from day.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
One to now.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
There's a lot the world's done, a lot of changing,
but we've managed to stay in this little bubble where
we still have the same checklist and what's cool. So
we've been fortunate in that way of like contending with
it has been. We're like, we're like the ground Hug
used to head up, Like, I don't know what's going on,
and uh, I don't know. We we just have this

(04:06):
thing that if we all like it, we think that's
all it takes, right, and then every once in a
while a bunch of other people like it too, But
we're we never I don't know, and I just I
think I feel like I'm very out of touch, So
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
I do think it's just growing as from you know,
starting the band as kids and coming men and you
know what I mean, Like it's it's uh that will
obviously have an influence on it. But I think a
big part of that influence is, like Jay said, it's
not really creative.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
It's not like we start looking new places. It's like
we sort of know what.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
We want, we just can't figure out how to always
like get it out.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
You know, Let's say we're old enough now and we
have families, like we're smart enough now to know like, oh,
if we do this, like it'll be a good business move,
and it'll be it'll maybe and we always before we
do it go like yeah, but is it cool?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Like do you really want to do it?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I want to do that, And that wins every time,
and so we've taken the long path.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
But it's so what is cool to you guys?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
The thing that's elusive, that's but people at all five
of us have a different version of it. And I
guess when they all there's a ven diagram, they all
overlap for a second. That's what we got to go with.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
You know.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
I think for every individual it's like I don't know
what it is, but it's that that feeling inside where
you're just like, oh yeah, that's.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
All whatever is feeling.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
We don't ignore how to do it in front of people.
You want to share it. You want to actually annoy
people with like check this out, man, instead of like, oh,
it'll be a good idea if I go and share
this with you, like I can be like condused and
ripping for it.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
I can tell you what's not we do is when
you have to convince yourself.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Something that you know it is a good ring.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
You know in your heart it is not cool and
it doesn't matter what it is. Could be cool, it's music,
could be food. If you're just like yeah and you're
trying to convince you off, you just know that. And
so we never let that feeling sort of creep its
way into our band.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
So okay, So I get different answers across the board
on this. You guys have been around a while, you
have so much experience under your belts. What is the
prep like for tour? What is the prep like for
a big festival like this? Oh?

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Okay, so for tour, I don't know everyone. As soon
as we get on the bus to leave, as soon
as it starts rumbling, everyone goes like I feel like
I forgot something. I forgot I.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Left something for me this morning all day.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's really there's no you know, decades and decades of
doing it, there's no system where you don't have that
feeling just before you leave, like did I leave something.
But that's part of the ritually for me. I just
pace around the house imagining all the different scenarios of like,
oh maybe i'll I'll have to bring this, or I'll
have to do that. I don't do any of that.
I just sit around and get stoned and listen to

(06:52):
music on tour, I don't I'm not as ambitious as
I think I am, muging by the stuff I pack.
But it's part of the ritual.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
And as far as prepping, saying, like say, show wise,
for the different kind of events, there really is a
much of a difference. It's always the same, Like it's
always an hour before show, everybody starts putting on tunes.
Everybody is their own thing, and then like it doesn't
matter if it's a small club in Cincinnati or if
it's our life. The way we hit the stage has
the same It's always been the same mentality of just
like have fun and just give into it, give into

(07:23):
whatever feeling you're feeling, just express it as big as
you can, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
That's perfect. I don't think you guys are going to
be as nervous or anxious about something like this as
maybe a band that just started this year.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
No, absolutely, that's a good point. Yeah, we kind of
like even waking up in the midst of it, you're
sort of like, ah, yeah, I know how this goes.
You know, the afternoon show, you know how you feel
about it as opposed to a nighttime show. Just having
done it, there's a way to get in a way
wake up early and kind of like almost cheat the system.
And it's like, oh, if we normally do this at

(07:56):
seven o'clock at night, if I start all the whole
ritual of it early enough, by one o'clock, I'll leave
ripping to go that It's it's like you know, an
old turtle, how it's you know, what you have to
do in a day, almost like a playoff beard or whatever,
like the superstitions throughout the day of like, Okay, this
is what I have to do in order to feel

(08:17):
good when I go up on stage. But when it's early,
you got to do it all faster.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Oh yeah, I think.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Yeah, it's still got to say keep you calm at
the same time. So there's like a there's a wisdom
to it, the fast turtle.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I think.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Also, you know, we've said some of this tour amongst ourselves,
so it's just like when you're a young man on
a something like this, you definitely have that feeling and
probably do have something to prove, like you're just like, you.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Know, I'm here now and this is what I do.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
But for us, we've discovered on for our band at
this level, it's like we have something on the show
and there's a difference to that.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
You know, there's a there's something we know.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
We like to do and and try and hit a
bar every night, and and we want to show people
in the world. When we were younger, we were like
we didn't.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Know what we were doing. We didn't know what we
were doing, but we were like, look at us, do
us thing. We're figuring it out. We know absolutely.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Now we feel a little bit more confident in our
and you know, shoes.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Against okay, So with Finger eleven. You guys, you can
correct me if I'm wrong. I'll wait for this.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
I can only hear keep no a riff every time
it goes by.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Just so, are you guys coming? You just did a
tour and now you're doing another tour or is it
one big long tour?

Speaker 2 (09:30):
We yeah, one long tour for what the last three
since three months? Yeah, and we just hopped off it
to do this and we're going back to this.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Oh okay, and who's on this tour? Few? Okay, So
you guys were in Pittsburgh not too long ago, and
I worked for a Live Nation on the side and
that's where I saw you guys. So one of my
fall up questions was, how is that tour going? Tell
me about the behind the scenes for you know, hanging
out with Creed and those guys. What does it mean
to play this tour? Anything like that? You know what

(10:01):
I mean?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
To be honest, it is.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
It's great.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
It's been incredible.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Like they were the first band in nineteen ninety seven
to take us on tour, and like the Americans, you know,
they were the first man that really support our band
seven to us as well. There was other bands, but
creed really and then and because they were as they
blew up, we sort of robe the wave with them
and they would and we became friends, real good friends.
But we lived, you know, geographically in other countries. So

(10:25):
when we went back home for the last decade, let's say,
you know, there was that like we didn't keep in
touch and we didn't text every day call you know,
but when we got the call for this tour, it
was like no way, Like it was like they thought
of us, they remembered us, and like and then as
soon as we saw them, it was like those conversations
twenty years ago, just like Reds, you know. And and

(10:47):
that's just the way it's always been with those guys.
And they've been incredibly supportive of us. And you know,
I mean, like they rock every night. Like you might
like them or you may not, but they bring it
every night, man like with everything they have, and the
people in that building love it everything. Yeah, And they
and we fit. It's neat for our band because we
can play this kind of festival, but we can also

(11:08):
play those kinds of shows them and and that's something
that we sort of enjoy, you know, Like when three Doors.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Down we crossed paths here and there like we.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Played Red Rocks.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah yeah, we never really intermingled. And the the second
show of the tour, the rain canceled Finger eleven, and
so during the Three Doors downstat they were like, well,
you guys, come up and play Paralyzer. At least you
get to play one this one.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Like during like without without the first Like here's our
gear play this year.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So the normally by the end of the toury become friends.
Oh why don't we hang out longer? But this made
it like the first day of Three Doors Down Finger eleven,
we were like, man like okay, so we just became
close friends, like quickly, genuine.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
And obviously all bands are different musically, you know, but
everybody in that or any either any of those bands,
every band member loves being in that band as which
as the other members love being in their band.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
It's just everybody believe when they're doing it, and they're
bringing everything they can.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
So it's it's like Mark TRMANI plays guitar from the
second that you walk into the building. You can hear
him playing until he goes out on stage. He's just
like an athlete of guitarist.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
What a guitarist?

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Oh yeah, and then he's suches a guitar clinic in
the middle of the day.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It almost transcends, like what you think about Creep. It's
just like no, as far as just a guitarist and
someone who's working a serious about of shit.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
He's a nerdy guitarist, yes, which isn't a bad thing.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
It's a quarterback guitar player in a sense like he's
I don't know, it's good, it's good.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
So we'reking close to the end of twenty twenty four.
What's kind of coming up next? Four Finger leven end
of twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five anthing you guys can.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Talk about, new new record and twenty five. Yeah, that's it.
There's definitely songs one's done, ready to come out, and
others that are like along the conveyor belt, get closer
and closer to the way. Twenty twenty five is gonna
be new Finger eleven music.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Fantastic news as a fan of Finger eleven and just
like just in general, like I love new music, So
let's go different. Answers have come to me across the board.
You guys have plenty of experience under your belt. So
I asked this question to every band at the end
of my interviews, what advice would you give the bands
are just starting out or trying to break out of
being a local band.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
First, first is you need to make sure the commitment
level amongst members is the same. Like you just do
it and you don't have to be mean about it, but.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
You just you don't want to sleep on the floor. Yeah, man,
you get an eight hour drive If nobody wants to
do that, this is gonna suck sometimes.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
And then just keep writing, keep writing, Like even if
you write the song that the fans you have love
in the club and your girlfriend loves it and everybody
sings it when you play it, like, don't stop there
like that, Like you.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Just keep writing and keep writing and keep writing.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Because that's the I mean, that's really all you can do.
And then just fucking hope, hope and pray that someone
discovers you know, or that you get a chance you know.
But I mean, the thing that we learned along the
years I wish I wish we knew then is that
you need to care when no one else cares, and
you need to practice and be good, so that when
you do get your shot, that's not the night where

(14:19):
your strap breaks or your shit goes, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
What I mean.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, So, like you got to play when no one's
watching all the time, so that when they are watching,
you're ready for.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
It, especially today because everybody is watching via phone, via anything.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Yeah, everything, Like don't do drugs, just do drugs at
the right time you can do the job. Yeah, and
like make the decision as a band of like guys,
let's say this does work out, you want to do
this forever and ever and ever. Like it makes decisions
get a little bit easier when it's like I don't
know should I do this? Should I do that? Like

(14:58):
do you want to do it? Like imagine it works
out and you're gonna do that for like imagine Angus
Young hated shorts and the one gig he went out
and he got noticed and he was like, I don't
play it like that, Like, man, this is for keeps. Yes,
I mean, thankfully, that's the legendary thing right, very well.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
So any final words you guys want to say to fans, thanks.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
I look terrible in shorts. He does horrible.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
No, honestly, I mean to anybody who's listened or clicked
or whatever even paid attention to this world and this
many and this much options.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Thanks, It's awesome because we love doing it, so it's
just a pleasure when someone else takes interest in it.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Awesome Finger eleve, I'm gonna talk to you guys here
in second appreciate it a little bit of your time.
Figure eleven. These guys rule. You know them, you love them.
They have new music coming out on twenty twenty five,
so awesome news there. You didn't get to catch them.
A Louder in Life. Hey, they're still on tour with
Creed and Three Doors Down, so if you can go
check them out. There plenty of stuff in the words
plenty of other bands I talk to Louder in Life,
So thanks for checking this out. See you
