Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, guys, Kevin Powell here again. Louder than Life, Man,
a lot of interviews today and a lot of fun.
I'm here with Jake saw you today. How you guys doing.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
We're doing fucking great. We're doing good.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
You guys have had a lot of interviews yourself. Yeah,
and you guys are here a loud in life. What
does it mean to play a festival this size?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Uh, this is the first festival we've ever played like this,
and it's pretty crazy.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
It's like a dream come true. It's awesome.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Yeah, I mean we're stoked. This is like definitely one
of the biggest shows you've ever done, aside from the Megadeth.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Show last year.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
It's just a great show.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Yeah. We opened up for Megadeth and Biohazard last year,
a big deal.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, it was. It was cool.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
No, we're grateful. We were supposed to be on like
super super early, so we were like, maybe no one's
gonna be there, but they pushed our set like an
hour and it ended up being like fucking awesome and
there was hundreds of people circle pits and shit. So
it's just been a great day. Sun was shining, it
was just it was just awesome.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
That sounds awesome. Yeah, and now you and Dave Staying
are besties. Okay, So with everything going on today, it's
a kind of chaoting you guys. Okay, with the chaos,
we thrive.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I'm gonna say we drive in it.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I you know, walking in This is my third or
fourth DWP festival. I kind of understand first time here
a nice five hour drive for me, and you know,
I have a general idea, but like every time I
go and I'm like, where's everybody? What do I do?
So it is fun. I thrive as well, and now
I know where everything's at.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So what's going on with the Jigsaw Youth Camp right now?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
We're on tour.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
So this is the second show of the tour. We
did Brooklyn the other night and it was awesome. It
was sold out and it's great for a hometown show.
It makes us feel awesome. And then here and then
tomorrow we're driving all day to Montreal, so that's gonna
be fun.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
So we're on the road right now, and then we're
gonna be pretty much out until like October fifteenth is
our last show in LA We're gonna head back, put
out some new music. Then we're gonna hit the road
again in January, so we're gonn announce that tour probably
within the next seven days, so keep on the lookout.
We're gonna play ship Rocked right after that. So that's
what we got going on pretty much.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
I'll ask you a little bit more details on that
in a second. I don't know why a nass is
the beginning. Where are you guys from.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
We're from Staten Island, New York, New York.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Okay, So how long has Jagsaw Youth been a band?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Like ten years?

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Almost times ten years? You guys have been in a band,
first time, big festival so far right, this is going
to open up doors for so many other possibilities because again,
you and David stand are besties. You get to do
whatever moving correct. After Shock is coming up next month
and it's very similar. Have you ever been to after
Shock anything?

Speaker 4 (02:42):
No, this is the first time and we're double whammying
right now.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, we went to we didn't play, but we went
to Rockville last year this year and that was amazing.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
So we love festivals, we just never got to play them.
And here we are.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
So tell me about getting that phone call, that email
that you guys are gonna be playing loud in life.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
It's a rush. It was.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
It was a pretty rough y're not gonna last. So
when we had those, we were like fuck yeah, like
like honestly at this point, like we've been a band
for so long that whatever good things come, like, we're
so grateful, but it's also like we deserve this shit
at this but yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
No, it's it's a rush, like I mean, you know,
we we roll with the punches, yeah, but getting something
like that and then followed up with the aftershock too,
it was like, fuck, man, like this is it? Yeah,
it's nice to it's nice to see the reward come
through because like, like March will be ten years that
we're together. So we've been hustling up and down the coast,

(03:43):
schleppen shit across from here to California and everything. So yeah,
I mean anytime we get any offer, it's like an
actual dopamine rush where we're.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Like whoa, Like we love shit like that. So yeah, So.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Ten years ago, do you think you guys would see
yourself playing something like this.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, that's why we're doing it.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
I think we always dreamed of it, and of course
that's always your mission.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You never really know, but like.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Like I remember, I used to like play music in
my headphones and like lay down before back with my
eyes closed, and like imagine that I'm playing whatever song
I'm listening to, I'm playing that song on a festival stage.
And so it's just always been a dream and everything
we've done has been so we can get here.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah and more.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, awesome, guys. You guys put a song not too
long ago? What two days ago?

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, yeah, two days ago.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Secret she sings it. So what's what was the writing process?
What was the production process for this song?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Usually we start with like little demos. I'm like a
squirrel that way. I just locked myself in a room
and I demo like twelve hours, no food, no water,
and I just kind of like write a little bit.
I know she does a bit of the same thing.
So we just will be like I the song idea,
I have the song idea, let's you know, work on
it back and forth, and then we bring it to

(05:06):
the studio. We work with Alan day from five years
Strong and four years fro four years Strong, five years.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Strong, ten years Strong, ten ten years week.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I don't know her, Alan, Alan, I don't know her,
it's been a long day.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And he is such a great like not only producer
and engineer, but he's just a great collaborator and we
we we could be like, Alan, I have no idea
what the fuck to do with this song?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
He's a fourth member of the band. Yeah, Like he
really is.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
He he's he's an actual producer who doesn't just sit
back and go no, good job, guys.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
And anybody out there seriously like that needs somebody that
is a team player and is in it for the
music before anything else. Alan fucking Day from four years strong.
He has a passion for music and he understands what
people want to hear. And he really brought us out
of because you know, like we've always ran just straight
through like grun punk songs, and then he opens up

(06:01):
our eyes where it's like what if we completely do
a like we bring it back for bridges and verses
and things like that, and then it makes everything more
powerful in the choruses and stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
But yeah, it's very like detail oriented, which I think
we appreciate.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, so he probably brings ideas to the table that
you're like, I never would have thought of that.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
I never would have thought Yeah, but it's not even
like it's something that's so far fetched for us. It's
like he just enhanced what we always wanted to do
but didn't know how to get there, and he's just
like the helping hand to get us there.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
So he's just been great.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
We record with him at Ghost Hit Recording in Massachusetts.
It's a converted church. What else is new with the
rock bands? All these Miami rap our motherfuckers want to
go and they're like, yeah, we are in the Palm
Trees recording.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
We're always like we're in a graveyard. It's straining. I
haven't seen the sun in eight days.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
It's a conditioning no easy.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
No, But yeah, So we record up there.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
They have an apartment that's like downstairs and it's beautiful.
So we usually go there in the winter crank everything
out for the spring and summer. But uh, yeah, it's
been great. Secret it's out for two days.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Now, run it up, damn. Shout out to you, Alan,
So secrets out? Is this part of something bigger? Or
are we just doing a couple of singles or what's
going on with that?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
It might be.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
What do you allow to tell me?

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Pretty much everything? I don't give a shit.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
We're putting out an EP at some point we're kind
of just like feeling out how people are reacting and stuff.
So that's the second single that we're putting out from
the project.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Because people want to be like, when's the album coming out?

Speaker 1 (07:43):
You all have ADHD.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
We want you to appreciate the blood, sweat and tears
we put into our craft. Right, We're gonna release one
song at a time until you're sick of it, and
then we release the next one and then at the
end the whole project.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
But honestly, even from the listeners and things like that,
just the it just that's the way the industry is
waterfalling is the new approach because you know what I mean,
you got to pitch it for these editorials and these
big you know, like the DSPs and shit, and they're
not gonna sit here and listen to your whole album with.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Fifteen twenty tracks. They want to just be like and
if anything, they want it under two minutes.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
So it's it's the writing process has changed, the distribution
processes changed, and the way people consume music has changed.
And that's why.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Because everyone's like just writing for like something that could
go viral, Like you use those songs on TikTok. That's
like you people only end up knowing seven seconds of
that song, and like, right, we didn't, like we grew
up listening to like fifteen minutes songs like.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, so it's a little it's been.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
A learning process for us, so learn how like the
industry works and what actually helps music get out there.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah, but yeah, it's been so you got to borderline
the two. You know.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
It's like, all right, I'm not gonna completely sell out
the way we write and only write TikTok bites, but
all right, you want something short, but you want something powerful,
Like it's kind of like like a prompt. Yeah, you know,
that's how we look at it.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Everyone.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
People will complain, Oh it's not the same. It's like whatever, Bro,
you're gonna keep compaining. You're gonna get let behind.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Like we're writers at the end of the days, and
that's that's it's a challenge.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Yeah, so personal question. Also, you guys are a great
interview so, like, man, you guys have personality behind your answers.
I'm not gonna throw shade at any of my past
so no kidding. So I've had general like conversations with people,
This is awesome. I've also had conversations where like, hey,

(09:41):
what's your favorite song off the album? They're like the
third one?

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah, great, What the fuck is that? Why?

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Why do you like the third one? What is the
third one? Some people don't got it fantastic? Do you
guys prefer EPs albums? Singles? What do you guys individually prefer?

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I think I really dig at EPs. One day we'll
do an album, but that's when we're like at rockstar level,
like like we could stay at a nice beach house,
like some some funky munks type shit, like stay at
a beach house and live there for like indefinitely.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Which we do.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
We do like for our EPs, but it has we
don't have the we're all independent. We have no manager,
we have no no publisher, we only have Yeah, we
have no label. It's literally all us. So when they're like,
do you want a record, It's like, I don't have
like thirty forty g's right now.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
I only have enough for what.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
My homie is gonna give me on a homie price,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And that still is so much.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
So I mean as far as like what we like
to record, I'm down to record an album. I'm down
to record a single or an EP. I could do
it all. We are comfortable with doing that. But when
I like to consume music, it depends. I love albums
like I love con like albums with like a concept
behind it and things like that. But I have some

(11:05):
people that, like I LA have some bands that I
love their EPs and it's like four songs and the
whole thing six minutes, and I rotate it all day long,
you know what I mean. So it's kind of like
I'm down for whatever.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
There are some EPs out there that still have millions
of streams compared to albums. I think O Job for
a Cowboy, for example, their first EP still the best
thing they ever put out.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
I mean that's just one band of many examples. But yeah,
fallow up to this is I'm guessing you guys have
had your fair share for going to shows, local, big, festival, whatever,
all of them. I'm seeing a trend, and you can
confirm this or not. I'm not seeing any physical CDs
being sold anymore. We have them, you do.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
We do.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
We burn our own all on that ny in a
nice case with a nice cover.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Okay, because we burn ourselves. Yeah, we burn ourselves.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Well at the end of the day, it's it's not
even like a front, like we really aren't nineties bitches,
like we really be living that life. So, I mean,
I was listening to CDs up until I was like
at the end of high school, Like I didn't I
didn't even know that CDs were like not in anymore.
But it's nice to have something physical because you know,
you could do vinyl, it's expensive to get upfront. Cassettes

(12:12):
are cool, but the turnaround time isn't always the best.
So CDs is an at home thing. You said, burn
a fucking mixtape for your girl, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
You've had the sort of.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
The next day LimeWire days and I'm.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Saying, Pirra Bay LimeWire, come on, So we have them though.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Okay, yeah, fantastic. Well I don't want to see if
you guys stood out from the rest. You know, next week,
when you guys are at rockstar level, when you have
that album out, then you can have that vinyl and
then you can sell millions and we go.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
You can even do any a vinyl like you could
do an EP vinyl like you and I'm down. It's
just like the opportunity will come at some point.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, okay, so tell me about ship Rocks. I've been
on a cruise I've never been on. It was great.
It was at the Bahamas, different stops there. I have
several pictures. Great time, however, was short because of course
it is ship rocks. Okay, Yeah, anything like this, I

(13:10):
can think of a few different ones. You can't think
of the names. What bands are gonna be at this,
including you guys, And what's the prep work like for
you guys going into this? Have you guys either been
on a cruise yet or no?

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Not playing?

Speaker 4 (13:21):
So basically, we're gonna announce next week a tour with
someone who's also on the cruise. We're gonna do like
ten days together pretty much around the Chicago area.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
We're gonna make our way down the coast.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
We're gonna end in Florida, and then we're gonna jump
on the ship together right after that. And Parkway Drive
is headlining the best. So there's a bunch it's like
Hollywood and Dad Parkway Drive like a bunch of people.
I can't even remember Poda, So you know, it would
have been a big, a big production getting everyone to

(13:55):
fly down renting equipment or doing it through the crew
the cruise line. I mean, I got to connect anyway,
so even.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
If we had but I'm a mayor.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
No, but uh, since we're already gonna be down there,
I'm gonna park my ban. We're gonna take all our
ship like it's another toenty.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
And live it up full Tinny vacation too.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
No. For years we've been talking about how like we
really want to do like a girl's cruise. I just
got like wrecked the entire time, and now we get
to do that.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Now you get paid to do it. Yeah. Oh man,
it's gonna be great.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
So excited.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
My camera guy over here, Tyler, he's been on a
cruise as well. I don't know if he's gonna he
probably can't hear me right now, but he's had fun.
I had fun. I recommend it. Do you know what
the cruise line name is? Is it like Carnival or
is it like Private or I don't even know? Okay,
no problem, don't okay. I will say, get ready to
have the worst service of your life. If you want

(14:48):
to get a Wi Fi package, it's not really worth it.
So you know it's you're here you're there for the fun,
You're not there for the wife.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
I look my best friends, like what what else?

Speaker 4 (14:58):
We're gonna film a lot of content, especially with the
band that we're going out with, and then like when
we get home, we're gonna just crank it out. It's
almost gonna be like it's gonna be like us and them,
and it's gonna be like cruise jackass. It's gonna be
like ridiculous. It's gonna be just ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Okay, wonderful. So kind of wrapping things up, what do
you guys personally have planned? Band has planned for going
into twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
We just want to stay busy, keep busy. I think
even just when we have lined up for just January,
like that's such a great start to the year, and
I just want more of it and we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
That's why.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Like I'm usually like a very optimistic person that plans
like five years odd like every detail of my life.
But I've learned the hard way that life is unpredictable.
So I'm now adopting a new mindset where I take
it as it comes.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
And I try not to freak out. And yeah, so
we'll just see how it goes. We'll see.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Yeah, I just made the executive decision that we're gonna
drop the EP in like probably January, so maybe the
other song right.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Before the tour. We'll figure it out.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
But that's gonna be We're trying to release things when
we're on the road that way, Like it's not just
who's streaming. It's gonna be like, Okay, we just dropped it,
like we just noticed, like the tickets do better that way,
and just the content does better that way. That we're
starting off twenty twenty five strong what we have after
no idea. We got pitched for a shit ton of things.

(16:32):
Hopefully things line up and come through. So you know,
for you agents out there that are looking for somebody
with some pizzazz, we're out here and we're ready to tour.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yo, we're hitting the ground running.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
I love this energy. This is awesome.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Like we will work anything. I can't tell you how
many jobs I've quit just because they're like, you're not
going on that tour and I'm like, we're out there
resting at all.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I wasn't asking by the tour situation. Yeah, it's like
I wasn't asking. I'm leaving by Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah, I'm not asking like I gotta go, like like
I'm not gonna you know, it's like, oh yeah, let
me stay home and work this miserable job instead of
go on tour with my best friends and live my dream.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
I will make whatever work and like we're just down,
We're down to tour.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
I love it. Yeah. I asked this question to every
band I talked to. I've talked to a lot of
bands new been around a while, really experience, not that experience.
If you guys have been a band for quite some time,
you've been around music, you've been around these bands. What
advice would you guys give to bands just starting out
or trying to break out of being just a local band.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Work on your craft and be relentless, Like if we
were just talking about this earlier, If you believe in yourself,
you will be motivated to work on your craft and
to put it out in the world and not be
scared of what people will think of it.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, I say all the time, like, if you have
like a product or a brand or a mission statement
that you're shooting for, you got to just go for it.
But you gotta just be yourself because all the other
shit's gonna come with it.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
So as long as you're just.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
Like on the path and nothing's gonna stop you, like
like us, like we really didn't know anybody. There was
no industry help, and like we really were in basements
like in the burrows and upstate New York and traveling
all these random places just because we believed in like
our product. And you're only gonna get better, and don't
stress about making everything perfect. It's not gonna be and

(18:26):
it never will be. Just put it out as best
as you can in that moment. Move on, you're gonna grow.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Like even just today we played this unreleased song that
was a song that we already released years ago. The
band kept and but now we're older, we know our
craft better.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
We're working with Alan and we vamped it.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Yeah, we brought the song to him and we were like,
we want to do this how we want to hear
it now.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
And no one's gonna believe in you off the cuff,
like off the bat, like you had to believe in
yourself first, and that's really it. As long as you
have your own self esteem or your team around you,
that's all on this same page. Got up people on
the same page. Even if it's your best friend and
he's not on the same page, you gotta get out
because at the end of the day, this is a
fucking business.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
You know what I mean. So you just gotta like
be relentless.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Best part about Staten Island the accent. What your give me?
Give me the thickest accent you got.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Well, I just ordered corn coffee over there, and it
was the best I've ever.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Had in my life. I've been this is like my
third one today. I'm jacked off.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Okay, okay, exploiting out.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Of state Island accent because I grew up in Manhattan.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
All right, all right, bougie girl, No bougie.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Meanwhile, it's like I grew up in Washington.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Tonight's no, It's all good. It's talk good.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
She was born better, No, I was.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
I moved around a lot. I was actually born in Canada.
I moved to New York when I was like eight.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
You opened up the can of worms.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah yeah, so I'm gonna trumb this is what we're
here for.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
So then my parents got to left. So actually I've
been really depressssed. So I've been in therapy ever since.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
