Speaker 1 (00:00):
Interview after interview, after an interview, you just talked to
Scott from Local Age, stood up and then here is
Low Lives. How are you guys doing? Hello?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
We are great, doing good.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I won't you go ahead introduce ourselves. What are you guys
do in the band?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'me's late us sing and play guitar.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
And I'm Jackson and I play guitar.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
You guys have a really thick Kentucky accent. I can
really super thick. So where are you guys from?
Speaker 4 (00:21):
We're from all over the show man like, two of
us are Brits, two American. Jackson's from Texas, I'm from England,
Lucas from England, and Steve, our bass player, is from.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Its So I believe you guys. I've talked to people
in Canada. I believe you guys are gonna be my
first not North American band I've talked to. So I'm
very excited for that. I have a very special question
for you, but we'll get to that later in the day.
How does it feel to be part of something like
Wilder in life?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
It's fucking great, man Like, we're really happy to do
some of these women festivals we're doing after shock in
like a month's time as well, so that would be
really good.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
You got into that.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I want to, but it's like I don't have enough time.
It's just yeah, it's too soon. If it was maybe
another month ahead. Yes, that's what we are.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
So we're doing that. It's nice to be here. We
haven't played in Louisville. It's cool to be here.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Nice beautiful day today, a nice rainy day.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Day for it? Man.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Fuck okay, so you got to be part of I
don't know what day they call is day two or
Day three because Day two got canceled now we're technically
Day three whatever or day whatever. How did it feeble
to walk out on stage and see people actually there?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
It was great.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
We kind of anticipate it's not really one of those
bands that just for we do is tour in England
in Europe a lot, and we even though we live
in the States, we very rarely tour in the States.
So we were just anticipating like ten people showing up.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So lots of people showed up. They all knew the words.
So it's fucking cool man, How long go ahead?
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Yeah, it's pretty crazy for us.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Never have been happing laid here before and like there's
people singing the words and this is this is my
second US festival ever, so it's it's pretty neat to
come out on stage and everyone's jamming to the.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Songs having fun.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
You guys as first a Danny Wimmer festivale. So you
guys have played other festivals, Yes.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, other festivals, mostly again England.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
And yes, yeah, okay, so you guys have this unique
perspective of it. I've asked this for other bands. I'm
not trying to come off as an ass kisser. However,
I think these Danny Wimmer festivals are like top notch.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
We were discussing this at catering just now, like not
to talk shit on English festivals, but like they're not
as we were surprised how.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Organized this was.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yes, like rolled in this morning, dude met us outside
the gate in the van, led.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Us all the way in. Here's the dress room, here's this.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
We're like, oh, that was easy, because only when you
go to like download or reading or any of those festivals,
you're just like, we got to account for like three
hours of fucking around in the morning to at.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Least like, oh, here's the stage, Like do you know
what I mean so, yeah, it was. It's been a
piece of this. It's been great.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
I say this because I've worked another Danny Wimer festival
called Incarceration. I've been part of Sonic Temps that one,
that one Incarcerations in Columbus Mansfield, Ohio, and then Sonny
Temple Columbus as well. After Shock, you're gonna be the
other side of the country in California, So that's gonna
be a lot of fun. Yes, it's gonna be a
way different experience. Yes, very jealous of that. However, I
(03:14):
walking into Incarceration Fest day one of I think the
first day ever works maybe a year and a half
or so ago. Everything organized, security, organized, like, things were laid.
I was like, wow, I'm used to just chaos, which
is not bad, but this is like stopping.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's easy. Here's your food. Pasta says this scam. We
were like, what the fuck is this?
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Just like, oh, that's isn't that cool?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It's great? So just eight and it's great.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
The catering. Catering too, The tacos were amazing. So when
it comes to after shock and things kind of closing
out twenty twenty four, what do you guys have coming up.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
We just did some shit. We did a show last
night in Chicago with say us In.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
We go back. We have like two weeks off and
then we do.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Say us In shows again, and then we do after Shock,
and then we have like a show in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Then that might be it for the year.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
So we released a record in May, yeah, May record.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
So yeah, we've been in We did a few English festivals,
download and stuff. We did a tour of Alkaline Trio
in England, did some shows from our.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Friends at the Trayer in Europe. Now this and then that.
So yeah, I think might roll down for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I think so okay, wonderful. Oh so when it comes
to my question, I was gonna ask you guys at INC.
I asked a lot of bands this question because they're
used to they're from America, they've played American festivals, but
now they've played some European festivals. I said, all right,
what's the difference. What do you guys like? What are
you not like now? If the rules have reversed? Yes,
tell me which do you prefer and why European festivals American?
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Well, I guess since I've done both now in my life,
I can answer this.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
I'll say this. We played Download Festival not too long ago.
It was amazing. It was an incredible festival.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
It was the muddy thing that I've ever encountered in
my life.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
There was.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Not a blade of grass to be seen. It was
just mud, like the sea of the most insight. You
could see it running like it was crazy, like the
sludge like this, It was up to like your knees.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Wow, it was fucking awful.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
And I didn't bring boots, so I just had like
converse on and it was just like up to my
ankles in like mud the whole time.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
It was. It was fantastic.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
But I'll say this about American festivals, I haven't encountered
that here yet, and I'm thankful for that.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
We were anticipating, like I and our guy was like,
oh you better bring some wellies and you better bring
a rain jacket.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
We're expecting like, oh shit, all we have is converse.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Yeah, and I was sudden, it's fine, man, as grass everywhere,
Like even the press tenth in Download was just sludge.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
So it was insane.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
I was gonna say, I don't. I've grown up with
YouTube as it evolved, and I think I've watched a
lot of download live streams and just random clips. I
don't think I've never seen it, not rain, not download.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
It's saying every time I've played downloaded my old band
before as well, and it was the same thing just
being carried everywhere because it's just it's just insane, man,
So Wicked festival It's.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Oh yeah, so that was classic, especially.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Because it's at Castle Donnington, which is you know, the
history of like all the old OZ fests and like
Monsters of Rock was there, so it's cool to play
down though, So I'm glad we got to tick that
one off.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Did you guys have any issues or problems or anything
running into visa stuff coming over to America.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Uh, not really, to be honest.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Like Luke's lived here for a long time, our drummer,
he's English.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
My wife's mom is.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
American, even though she's lived in England most of her life.
So we just went to the place they gave us
visas so for us to come here. We all live
in the States, so that's easy for us. And then
when we go to England and Europe, you guys just care.
I don't even know what is that visa?
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Like an a cast for him, I think, yeah, yeah,
and we all have passports and stuff, so it's.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Usually pretty easy agents it, right, we don't do it.
I asked that question because there's a lot of bands
that like on Facebook, I see like we booked this
tour and we're about to go, and then like, can't
do it.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
America is hard to get into, man, I have so
many friends trying to move here, and if you've got
any kind of like criminal record or anything.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
You're fucked. Yeah, you got no chance gain even.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
If it's like tiny bit of weeds, like my friend's
over it right now to do a tour. And on
the way over there, Trauma got tonight at the American
Gates straight back home.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
She said, to like find a.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Session drama for like two days later to do it all.
So stuff, I've been in a man of a dudes.
He got tonight visa once. It's real fun.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Okay, they hate us, they don't want us in it.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
So when it comes to the album that you mentioned
in May, I'm sure this set. Other sets involve a
water songs from that And what would be you guys's
favorite song to play and why.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
My favorite song to play? Off the new album is Loser. Yeah. Yeah,
it's our newest single.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
It's one of the songs where I think our vocal
harmonies live worked really well and it's always fun to
see people singing along to it and and getting into it,
and for me it's it's it's fun to get into
guitar wise, I have a lot of cool parts in
that song.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
So I'd have to say Loser is probably.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Like it's super poppy, so it's like the less energetic end,
Like we can't just fucking leap around and head bag
and chairs.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Oh shit, we gotta like sing okay. So yeah, we
were sharing about playing that song. We haven't.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
We didn't have it in the Settlers for a long time.
We're like, I don't know if we could put this
in the middle. But it's actually, I guess it's it's
almost my favorite now to play.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
It's kind of a breather too.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, it's quite nice. So when you guys aren't in
music mode, what are you guys doing outside of music life?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Guitars?
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Music?
Speaker 2 (08:40):
We all we all work in music pretty much. It's
kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I buy, I praise vintage guitars.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
You deal with guitars all day long, So we're just Yeah.
People ask that all the time, like what hobbies have
you got? What do you do in your spare time?
You're like more music? Like no other interests? Do you
have any interesting?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I love Star Wars?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Okay, okay, camera guy here, Tyler love Star Wars. I'm
sure you guys are talking the forced me with you,
my friend? What's the best movie?
Speaker 6 (09:06):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Now we're at the Star Wars side.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
My favorite Star Wars film is kind of a controversial pick.
But I like The Last Jedi.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
You like Last Yet? I liked it? Okay, cool, I
watched it.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
A lot of people look at me and they're like, what.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Did you do?
Speaker 1 (09:19):
My favorite?
Speaker 5 (09:19):
But yeah, the Last Jedi. It's a Ryan Johnson movie.
A lot of it's very controversial with Star Wars fans,
but it's not. It's in one of the newer ones.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
But other than that Return of the Jedis movie.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
How about any of the TV shows you like? Any
of those? Any of the TV shows?
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah, absolutely, the Mandalorian Ahsoka, I've I've watched them all.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
I love anything, I love anything Star Wars.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I can talk about it all days.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Sweet. Okay. I asked that because I One of the
bands I talked to today, their vocalist was a session
therapist and that's what he does on the side.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
What does that mean?
Speaker 1 (09:50):
So basically anything with mental health you want to talk
about stuff, you can hire him. You want to do
it right after their set, you can do it.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
You can you want to took it out.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Let me.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
We need to know that guy.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
I'll have that in the back end because now I'm like,
a what band. I'll tell you guys in a little bit.
It was one of the first bands I interviewed today.
He also talked about how you could book him via zoom,
like if he's on the road and yeah. So I
was like, damn, that's really unique.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
What a great resource.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah, he's doing good for the world.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, exactly, we're not.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
We're inflating the price of vintage guitars.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
So what do you guys play or what do you
like to play? Brand wise? If you're really into guitars,
what guitar are you taking out on stage?
Speaker 5 (10:28):
Gibson's Okay, I'm a music man endorsers, so I use
music man guitars. And we're both big we're martial artists,
so we use.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Marshalls are you what's debate, Real amps, simulated.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Amps, buck simms. We are.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I mean, it's a terrible idea and actually fucked us house.
Like last night's Loaded was like three flights that says
we are a purely analog band.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
We take pride in no tracks, no tricks, no.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Digital shit, no nothing, just fucking big stacks as loud
as humany, p swat, trauma, hits trums.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
You ever seen a human hit drums.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
So we gotta keep up with him. Yeah, you can't
do that with digital ship man.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
And especially with a big stage too. We got a
lot of space.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Yeah, we got Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
We very much enjoy supporting bands that use digital stuff
because it means we have space.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
We roll up and we're like, oh, this is sick.
They got no ops his us.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I like asking this question every band I talk to.
What advice would you guys give to bands are just
starting out or maybe want to no longer be a
local band.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
I would say, stay true to yourself, don't try to
copy anyone else. You know, I think it's very tempting
these days to whenever you hear something that's popular, to
be like, you know what I'm gonna do?
Speaker 3 (11:41):
That because I can. I can get there that way.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Yeah, But I legitimately, from the bottom of my heart,
believe that people want to hear what you have to offer,
you know, that that special thing that you have that
no one else has, you know, And I think I
think a lot of younger bands need to need to
hear that and and need to have that confidence in
themselves to go out there and be like, you know what,
fuck it, this is me, this is.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
What I'm doing, and you're either gonna love it or
you're gonna eat it, you.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Know, make it believable.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Man, There's no point in just standing up there sing
other people's song. It's like, what's the fucking point, right
and stop using fucking backing tracks, dude, it's a joke
right now.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
So what's coming up next for maybe twenty twenty five
with you guys.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
We've got another record all kind of ready to go.
Well we haven't recorded it, we have all the songs
ready to go, So we're gonna go with our friend
Bo this time. We're gonna go and record that in
school house in like San Francisco, So we're gonna go
up there. We've we went to do the last record
in England at a residential studio. And that was a
game changer for us because long as we've done it
of like you know, clocking in and out every day
(12:42):
kind of thing and going home at night, and it
was nice to just all we did twenty four hours
a day was about making the record the best it
can be. So we're gonna do the same thing. We're
doing a place in San Francisco. It's like almost on
the beach. It's nuts, this place, super cheap, no one
knows about it, alright, so yeah we're gonna go there
and yeah, just get like you have to live the whole.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Thing like this.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
You have other shit worrying. He like, I have to
go to work the scene and I have to do
all that stuff. You just lose all focus on what
you're doing. And I feel like, especially because we're like
super analog bands and there's no like production tricks and stuff,
so it's like we have to be able to play
in a room as a band and it has to
sound good. Yeah, exactly, So yeah we're gonna do that again.
(13:26):
We're gonna go and do that for like two weeks, live.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
In a house and try and make a record.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Okay, wonderful different approach for sure. I mean there's a
lot of different ways to go about writing music nowadays.
You could write it all in your room, send it
off and call to day. I mean there's just so
many ways. But I like hearing the analog side of things. Yes,
we're all together, we're booking stuff, We're gonna have fun.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Yeah, especially because none of us live near each other either.
We live so far apart from each other as a band. Yeah,
we never get to rehearse. So that's kind of the
better way for us. Like we send out demos each
of us first to be like, okay, we can do this,
and I can add this guitar part here and stuff
like that. But it's nice to when we're in a
room together to focus on it. We are there to
focus on just the music. So yeah, we're extremely spread
(14:08):
out as a band. Like we live in California, drummer
lives in Arizona, and our baseball currently lives in Washington State.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
So yeah, we don't wonderful that way.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
No, I didn't start that way.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
We all started living in LA and then when we
started doing stuff as a band, it was like, shit,
we can't afford to like tour all the time and
live in La so we spread out pretty fast.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
To you after shocks with me a blessing.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
It's like, yeah, dude is down the road from you.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, absolutely nice. Any final words you guys want to say.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
To fans, I'd say thank you so much for coming
out and watching us yea in the rain in this
crazy weather and you know, singing along to the songs.
It It made the whole trip worth it and it
was a wonderful day, never forget it.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Yeah, we were very surprised. We kind of were anticipating
playing to no one, so it's kind of cool. We're like,
oh shit, there's loads of people that know the songs
this is.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
And you got a nice prancelot.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
I did get a nice bracelet and it has one
of our song titles on.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Isn't that the best? Lowlives? I appreciate it a little
bit of you guys time, I'm gonna talk to you
here in ben Okay. Thanks for Lowlives. You gotta check
them out. They had fun lower than life even though
it rained. So if you if you came out to
see them and you stuck it out, thank you. If
you're here in general for the Rain, Thank you. The
next Danny Wimmer thing for these guys is gonna be
next month at Aftershock. They're gonna be working on new
(15:26):
music here soon to get ready for that. Thanks for
checking us out. We'll see you guys next time.
