(00:51):
Hi guys, it's Kevin. It's for the Kevin Pelp Podcast
with iHeartRadio, I Have with Me Abandon kind of caught
my eye, caught my ear on social media, and man,
I love social media now because back in the day,
I don't know if we'd ever meet, but here we
are all from one song and it's so funny. It's
not enough space. How you guys doing chilling good?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Chilling good?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
So I want to know you can go ahead and
introduce yourselves. What do you guys do in the band?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I am the guitarist.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
My name is Tristan Chaos, and I write most of
the instrumental for the band.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
Hi, I'm Lizzie and I sing and ice cream.
Speaker 7 (01:26):
My name is liv and I do a lot of
the screams and I sing.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
A little bit too.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
So you guys are playing tonight in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with
We Have. I didn't get the locals. I'm sorry, okay,
but we have you guys and the funeral portrait. I
just spoke with Lee. I talked with them and saw
them at loud in Life. What a band? How'd you
guys get to get on with this?
Speaker 5 (01:49):
Our manager, Shelby has been really good friends with Lee
and the band for a long time. And Lee actually
before we went on tour with Attila and bornov Osiris, Lee,
he actually came through and met with us from Atlanta
to Florida and did a boot camp with us to
get us tour ready.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
And it just so happened that it.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Worked out that we were able to get a couple
of extra dates with them during their tour with The
Funeral or Sorry, Five Finger Death Punch and Marilyn Manson
and who. So we're just tagging along and they're throwing
us a bone and giving us a shot to show
people what we got and yeah, and the Funeral Portrait
has been nothing but super kind.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's a lot of fun so far.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, it's been it's been great.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
It's been great these guys, Like I've only talked to
Lee the most, but just his energy alone. Thanks you
just fall in love with the band.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
He's such a good dude, Like, genuinely such a good dude.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
We could talk for hours and hours, but he was like,
I have things to do. I'm like me too. It's fun.
But I'm glad you guys are here, and I'm so
happy that I got to meet you guys. So thank
you for allowing me to do this interview. Thanks for
coming out, of course. How is the tour? How is
the thing's going with this?
Speaker 7 (02:54):
It's been going pretty good, genuinely, like we've been having
a lot of fun meeting like all of our fans
and getting into tour with people that like we've known.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
For a little bit as well. So it's been nice.
Speaker 7 (03:04):
Getting to play like new unreleased music for everybody too
has been really cool, seeing like crowd reaction and stuff
like that.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
It's been a good time.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Well, I want to talk about the song that got
me here today, Primitive. Tell me about it. How did
it come about? Yes?
Speaker 6 (03:20):
Yeah, So Primitive is our latest single and we've been
also calling it moncore for like the meme. I promise
guys it's a meme, but we're gonna keep going with
the bit until it stops. But I don't know what
that's gonna stop. Yeah, I think a satire.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Actually, I think that's what people don't understand.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
What it was was like it was a demo that
we brought to Chris Link and Kaylen Adam of Attila,
and we brought the song the like the demo was
written by us and we and then it just you know,
being in the studio with a producer, the song grows
and it becomes it and we gave it life in
the studio and then the breakdown happened and I was like, dude,
what if we do a moan in this in the
(03:58):
in the studio and Chris was like, that would be.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Awesome, and Live was like, no ogly.
Speaker 7 (04:05):
Originally I did not want to do it at all,
and I was like, you guys couldn't pay me enough
money in the.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
World like that shit and with it, and then we
did it, and then Chris like produced it and made
it sound super sick, and we were like, fuck it.
Speaker 7 (04:18):
It took me like twenty minutes to get a solid take.
Even like it took me like twenty minutes to get
like a solid take.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I was like, tweaken over it. And then everyone was.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Asking you horny bastards. She did the moon I did it.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
We we we like to tell people it was Jacob.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
The Glasses illusion.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Sorry.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
So that's the thing. The moon core thing is very funny.
There are gonna be diehard metal people who are like,
what is just shub John with Dead Day Media, shut up.
Speaker 7 (04:47):
We have a lot of the chads and like the
comments that were like, oh my god, this fucking blows
and I'm like, it's okay, you don't have to like it,
it's fine.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I was thinking, and if I'm wrong by all means,
I was thinking, you guys in the studio, you have
that breakdown. Everybody's got a breakdown. You're like, man, what
if we've done enough bless, We've done enough yells, we've
done enough call outs? What if we moon? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (05:09):
That was literally it and then we were like, let's
have a little blit after too.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
And a good A great segue is whenever we showed
the song to our this the record label we just
signed to, Thriller shout Out. We showed them this song
and we told them about moncre and everything.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
They were so into it.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
They thought it was like the like the sickest shit.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Every listening to us all over at TikTok and responding
to all the comments and just being super petty online.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
And it's been awesome.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
It's been they help us rage babe.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And if you watch your numbers, it works. It's the
coolest thing.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Yeah, it's nuts, for sure.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
It's it's been really cool to see like the reflection
off of like social media and then live as well,
like hearing how people react to the song, like not
even just the other night the song came out, I
want to say, like a week ago and a half ago,
and it like it was weird hearing people like sing
it and then during the breakdown on the came in
you heard like everybody in the crowd moan and it.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Was like that shit was like absolutely crazy. I was like,
oh my god, it blew my mind.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
So I haven't had a second too. I literally walked
in set up and here we go. I haven't had
a second to check on merch. But if you guys
don't have a black T shirt that just says Moon Corps, eventually,
I'm a big You're in.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Luck Yeah, you're in luck Is. We're actually working on
that right now, literally right now, we're trying to find.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
A design that works, that makes sense, and something that
our fans would be like, Yeah, this is the fans
that get it because they it's satire. It's a joke, dude,
It's one song on the album. We're not mone core chill.
It's fine, exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Well, you talked about Thriller records, right, Yeah, so tell
me about them getting on with them, how you guys
talk with them, what they've been doing for you, anything
at all. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
So basically, when we were on tour with Attila and Buenavos,
Cyrus Nico from Thriller came out and he wanted to
come see our set in La which is super sick. Nico,
I love you baby, Yeah, we love Nico and yeah,
basically we met him there and then from there he
was like I'm all in, and then he came to
our Airbnb afterwards and we all hung out.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
We destroyed him in poker, Nico, we destroyed.
Speaker 7 (07:09):
You in poker, and yeah, my birthday and we got
absolutely ship faced and had like the craziest fucking time.
It was awesome, and we got to like talk to
him and talk about like future plans and stuff like
that while ship faced and plan poker.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Yeah, it was good.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
But it's been super sick because this band originated twenty
eighteen and we've been independent ever since. So this is
our first ever step where we actually have the support
and team that can out like help us grow. And
it's really like amazing. It's so cool to like hop
on a call with them and like plan everything, like
it makes everything so surreal.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
And it isn't it like a so awesome breath of
fresh air.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Yes, it's amazing for sure.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
And they're all super sweet and they're all very passionate,
so we do feel like we have that one on
one connection for sure.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
The biggest thing that I love about Thriller too is
they're big. They're big believers of if it's not broken,
don't fix it. And they they know when to let
us be like, yo, we've been doing this, we know
what's up, let us let us handle this.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
And they're the first to be like you got it.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
And they always step in with like advice that makes
sense and is great and like, well, like we wouldn't
be as serious about this band and making sure that
our fans are our fans are what's the word taking
care of, taking care of Without them, they they they
have done nothing but me to like just elevated us
and that's all we what's all we wanted and that's
(08:29):
all we could ever ask for. That.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
We literally have such an amazing team, Like genuinely everybody
on our team is so great and very very helpful.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Yeah, shout out shout out Reese and oh your camera
came out of focus for a second. Shout out recent
Jacob the guitarist and bassist. We would not be able
to be playing these shows.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Oh sorry.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Shout out to Jacob and Reese the guitar A fuck.
Shout out to Jacob and Reese, the bassist and the
drummer for sticking with us too. They we wouldn't we
literally would to be a band without them either.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
So yeah, just want that very everybody in the band
is very like volatile to what we do, and.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Everybody has like their own role.
Speaker 7 (09:04):
Okay, So it's nice to be able to like get
everybody together and write shit that like we enjoy and
work under people too that are like helping us like achieve,
you know, where we.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Want to go and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
You said everybody has their own role. What's everybody's role?
Speaker 7 (09:18):
Just fucking chugging, slamming on the drums and fucking having fun.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I mean, do you want an in depth answer for that?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I mean you're sure what's your role? I mean in
your mind, do you guys see yourselves with different roles
or do you straight up like, no, this is my role.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
So that's the thing about our team of people, our
entire band. So there's Reese, there's Jacob, there's me, Tristan,
Lizzie and live and genuinely, while we're on the road
and even whenever we're at home, everyone has their role.
I write all of our instrumentals, guitar, everything, like that.
Reese is always there to make sure what I'm writing
isn't impossible to play, and making sure riffs and make
(09:55):
sure drums sound yeah, and it makes sure it makes sense.
And because I will go crazy with the dumb parts
and six arms.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
The girls always rip lyrics over there.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Jacob highest fucking the corners, always like yeah, that sounds good.
And while we're on the road, Jacob is merch guy.
He is down forward. He counts all of our merch.
Me and Reese we set up our entire show while
the girls get ready, the girls come out.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
They do their job with sound checking everything.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
And also I can never get her off her phone
because she's constantly wanting to talk to fans online and
just make sure that the engagements. Always say that's the
biggest thing. We want full engagement. We want to meet everybody.
We want to talk to everybody. Anybody who you know
wants to meet us, you know, so yeah, and then
live dude.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
She's like, she's like the badass on stage, bro.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
She is willing to get in the pit to make
sure that the show is fun for everybody and just
make sure that everyone's having a great time.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Everyone's got their roles.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
It's all very, very very important, and we're very.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Proud to be where we are right now.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, I love that absolutely. So I want to know,
here's a fun one. You guys are on tour right now.
They're having a blast. Four twenty five is coming up.
Maybe twenty twenty six, twenty twenty seven. Dream tour any band,
any band? Now, these can be individual answers, This can
be something you guys have talked about.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Maybe my dream tour.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
I think we should do individual ones because I feel
like everybody's are gonna be different. Yeah, my dream tour
would either be with Sleep Tooken, Ask Alexandria, or like
Chelsea Grid. I absolutely love like the diversity that like
we have coming off of like the new album and
the playability with different bands from different like subgenres.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
So I think it'd be.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
Really cool to like spice it up obviously, like we
have that old metal course sound, so like Ask Alexandria
would be really cool.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
I love them.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
I've been listening to them since I was a little kid,
and then same with like Chelsea Grin, and then I
found out about Sleep Token I think when they released
the Summoning album. I have been in love with them
ever since, so I think it'd be really cool to
tour with them.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
I think it'd be a sick for me.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
I've probably say dreamtour would be asking Alexandria as well
and I See Stars. I feel like those are very
influential for me in middle school in high school. I
was very inspired by Danny Screams growing up for sure,
and then Devin's like Clean's I'm very inspired tour as well.
So overall those are my top two.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Scary kids scaring kids Vail of Maya and Avenue Sevenfold.
Oh in Afi is on that list for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
There you go all at the same time.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, yeah, same time.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
We're on five different stages is what it is. Playing
at the same time, and you have to just figure
out when everyone's playing the song somebody here. You just
have to like figure that's yeah, it's a game.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, So I want to know next you guys. I'm
not going to say the words you have blown up overnight,
but your numbers have gone up pretty quickly over the
last week or so. You guys are already on tour
before the song came out. We're talking about album coming out.
What do you have to say to fans.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
What I have to say to fans is we have
been working this band for a long time. This band
has gone through a lot to get the team that
has today, And just understand that everything that we're doing
is because we believe in it. We just want to
make sure.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
We're always proud of the product.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
That we give you, and we know we've taken a lot,
like a lot of time to make sure, like to
have singles come out and everything. Just understand that we
are working our best and we are the most impatient
people you will ever meet.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Keating.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
We're literally playing new songs on this tour with Funeral
Portrait because we're so excited for everyone to hear how
much like the work, Like we put in all this
work and we're finally able to write what we want
to write and have a team of people that is
willing to just let us do what we want. So
just be patient, Just be patient. We are working on
it day and night. I promise you I do not sleep.
(13:46):
You can talk to either one of these two. I
take over like all nighters, making sure that these tracks
are perfect for you guys, that the songs are as
good as it can possibly be.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I just trust in us.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
We're doing our best to make sure everything works out
the way it needs.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
To work out.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
And just to add to that, like to our fans,
like I genuinely want to say thank you for being
patient thus far and like waiting it out and you know,
waiting for Primitive to come out and like the positive response.
We have a really strong fan base and I can
personally say thank you to all of them. Everybody that
you know is a fanom not enough space comes out
to show and they know that like you're in an
(14:26):
environment where like you're safe, you're comfortable, like and it's
just really nice to be able to meet all of
them and like.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
I don't know, bring the community together.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
I'm very big on like the scene community and like
making sure that like everybody is what is the word,
I don't know what word I would taken care of
making sure that everybody's getting care of and I like,
I love the I love the community and just being
able to see it firsthand and talk to fans, meet everybody,
(14:56):
like thank you, guys, thank you for sticking with us,
and you know, having faith in us and you know,
being willing to.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Listen to the stuff that we create for you.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Guys, for sure, perfect answer all around. I always wrap
up my interviews with a question for all bands. I've
talked to bands that have just started out. I've talked
to bands at the offspring at loud in Life, They've
been around a while, same question across the board. Who
what advice would you guys give to bands maybe just
(15:29):
starting out, maybe they're trying to break through that next level.
Any advice at all?
Speaker 5 (15:35):
This is the most realist advice any musician watching this
is going to ever get. Get over your demoitis, be
open to change, try out every single idea, listen to it,
and be honest with yourself. That is the best advice
I can give you. I've learned a lot, dude. I
used to write five minute songs too. Trust me with
(15:55):
a two minute opener with just orchestra and then the
most genteellhit nobody could ever understand in their life.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Literally and over.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
The years, I've understood what makes a song good and
its energy. So get over your demoitis, know one to
cut the fat, and always be open.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
To constructive criticism. Please, please, for the love of God, I.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
Think my advice and my advice to bands that like
I guess they're trying to take it a little bit
more seriously and like go a little bit farther is
I've like have patience, like you you can do anything
that you put your mind to.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Look at you know, what's coming.
Speaker 7 (16:34):
Out like now versus what's coming out you know, back
in like two thousand and seven, and make it your own.
Like if you like that, like two thousand and seven crunk,
like metalcore, make it your own. Put a fun twist
on it. If you like old death core, put a
twist on it, like if you live I guess, like.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Take The biggest thing is don't be a dick.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Yeah, don't be addicted.
Speaker 7 (16:57):
Don't be addicted to people genuinely, like You're community is
going to be your best friend and the people that
come out to your shows and support you are going
to make it for you. And it like that's so
important is realizing like you know, don't let like don't
let it.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Get to your head, like be smart all that day.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
You can shred, but can you hang?
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah, you can try for Keny hang Like.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
You can shred, it's cool, but can you hang? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Just think about that, Like I said, taking into account
that your community is what helps you grow, and social
media understanding social media presence, understanding trends, and rage baiting,
which we do all the fucking time, like we really do.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
I I love rage baiting people. I'm not gonna lie
about it.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Like, yeah, it's it is what it is, and like
community social media, being nice to people. Don't walk into
your scene with a big ego and a like and
trying to make yourself look like the big dick in
the room. Be loving and be gentle and be kind
to people. That's us about it, honestly, do you have
any advice for them?
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Yeah, I would say mostly like I hear this or
people are like, oh, like you know, fake it until
you make it.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I hope that you don't fake it.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
I hope you mean everything. You have intention behind the words,
the instrumental, your character on and off stage, because it
is a good representation of you and the band. So
I do believe that you should take yourself serious and
don't sell yourself short.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
I agree, that's solid advice, as you saw three different answers.
So I appreciate you guys answering. Thanks for allowing this
interview to happen. Can't wait to see you guys tonight,
can't wait to do photos, can't wait to hang out.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Thanks again, guys, Okay, thank you so much, Thanks for
coming out.
