Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey guys, Kevin Pell here once again for the Kevin
Pell Podcast, and we're inside and we're with the legendary Offspring.
How are you guys doing doing well? Kevin?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yeah, thanks for having us.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
How you doing, Dex.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm feeling legendary. Actually, I'm glad you picked up on that.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
So one of the questions I feel like you guys
rolled in a little bit ago. You're getting ready to
hit the stage. How does it feel playing loud in life?
It feels great?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, I mean there's so many great bands here today.
It's a big rock festival, so I love that, you know.
I think I think it's just going to be a fun,
fun day. But we can hold the rain off for
a little while long, it's going to be awesome.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
A lot of weekend bands. I'm feeling sorry for it.
But you guys, you know today, if you can knock
it out.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I think tomorrow is going to be brutal.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Oh yeah, when it comes to big festivals like this,
you guys have been around for how many years? I
don't think you have very much anxiety or prep work anymore, right,
or do you?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, A couple of beers will take care of the anxiety. Right, Dex,
what do you do for prep work before the show?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I mean we do warm up a little bit.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
I mean we're pretty familiar with the songs at this
point and we kind of know what we're going to do.
We know how to bounce off each other on stage,
so to a certain degree, it's very natural to us.
But it never feels automatic. It's always there's the excitement
and I don't know if nervousness is there is quite
the right word, but that feeling of of just you know,
getting ready to go on stage and not knowing what's
going to happen and hoping that it all goes well
(01:17):
and seeing it, just watching it go off it's great.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Well, I don't remember who told me. This. Could have
been an old college professor being nervous. It's not a
bad thing. It just means you want to do well
at whatever it is. So maybe it is. Maybe it
isn't what that was with Louder than Life. Is this
your first DWP festival or have you played other ones
as well?
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I don't know what that is.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
So that Danny Wimmer Danny Wimmer Presents, Okay, yeah, yeah,
I think we've done others with him, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I don't remember doing this one though.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I don't think we remember doing yeah, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Though they're always they're always great. You know, festivals are
great because they gave you a chance to play with
bands that you might not always cross path was absolutely
and these festivals. This one is very very rock heavy,
which is cool because that's kind of part of where
we came from. But we might not normally play with
these bands on other things.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
So, right, and you get an opportunity to play some
new music, right, So I think you guys have a
new album coming out. We do.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, We've got a new record called Supercharged.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
It's out in about two.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Weeks, I think, all right, and yeah, we're excited. We've
already released a couple of songs off it. The biggest
singles probably make It all Right, which is a little
a little more poppy, and then we've done Lighted Up,
which is a little bit more punk, and then we
even released Come to Brazil, which is a little bit
more metal punk.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, yeah, I can't it's really only two weeks. Oh
my gosh, Yeah, Tom Gravis.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
How many? I mean your set tonight's probably gonna span
your entire discography. Right, not every song you've bet written,
but a little bit of this, a little bit of that,
and some new music. What are some of your favorite
songs to play live and why?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, I mean we have to go all the way
back to release Smash YEP for sure. I mean, come
out and play We played probably four or five songs
off that every night. Come out and play bad Habit,
self esteem, you know. Then we do we do songs.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
From throughout our career.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
We're doing at least one tonight, I think from I
think we're doing make It All Right from the new
record You're Gonna Go Far Kid goes over to Me.
That's about a thirteen fourteen year old song. Fourteen fifteen
year old song.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
So yeah, wonderful. Have you guys seen that? This is
a funny one for me. So on YouTube you'll see
bands at maybe one of their first second shows. You
guys are playing a festival way back in the day. No,
in years, there's weren't a thing yet, and now you
guys have this stuff and it is fun to look
back at that. How was the transition going from you know,
(03:27):
younger band to now and now you look back and go, wow,
I can't believe we pulled that show off, you know,
just anything like that.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, you want to sense on that just in ears
are something to get used to.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Oh yeah, right, you do.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
You do hear yourself a lot better, so it helps
your performance. But it's not easy. And actually sometimes I
really missed it and it's just having that loud monitor.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
The raw feels very wrong, right, very punk, very punk
with louder than life. You know, today being the day
for you guys, new album in a couple of weeks.
What's going into the end of twenty twenty four, maybe
twenty twenty five for the Offspring?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, well really all of next year where we're going
to be on the road hitting it hard.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
We are doing a couple of things this year. We're
you know, on and off a couple of festivals. We're
going to Australia for a show, Yeah, doing press, doing
some TV and some more shows throughout the year. But
really next year is where we're going to be hitting
it really, really hard.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Wonderful. Two last questions for you guys. I've asked every
band this question in my entire career. Any advice you
want to give to newer bands just starting out?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Don't do it man, give it up?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, no, I think find you know, if you're starting
a band, find people that you share the same love
of music with, you know, and then just you know,
work hard and show up and be aware of opportunities,
you know, and then content, make lots of content and
put it up on the internet.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Absolutely, how about for you anything.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Make sure it's not an emo band. That's the give up,
and don't be emo.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Got it on.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
We're emo adjacent. We did an interview that and the
guy said, you're not really an emo band, but you're
with Jason.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Okay, thinking about it.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
You know. Any final words you guys want to say
to fans, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Thank you, thank you for checking us out all these years.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
It feels really cool and we feel very honored and
very lucky to still be playing music and playing a
great show like this today. We can't wait to get
this record out. Supercharged comes out in a couple of weeks.
We're going to tour the ward world and elsewhere worldwide
and twenty five can't wait.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Check it out and we'll see you out there. I
just want to say, you all fucking rule, So thank you, Offspring.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
We appreciate it. Killer. We can't wait for the set tonight.
One of the first bands I actually get a chance
to be out of the media tent to see tonight.
So nice, very excited. Thanks for your time, and thank
you guys for checking us out. We'll see you later
