(00:00):
All right, it's the new hitlist. I'm here with a dash ut.
Hello, I'm going at you passright now. Sorry, what do
you say? I said? Lifeis coming at you pass right now.
Life is coming at me very fast. I feel like I'm on a rocket
ship. But I'm just hanging onfor dear life. So doing our best.
Drat's on all the success with Austin. I'm up that billboard chart.
(00:20):
We're going girl, We're trying ourbest. It's going up and all over
my for you page. I justwant to say, the line dance so
genius. Thank you. Whose ideawas that? That was mine? It
was mine and my manager. Wewere talking about it, and I like
genuinely love going line dancing in Nashvilleand I go all the time with my
friends and we're talking about it.We're like, oh my god, Austin
would be such a fun song toline dance too. And I just like
(00:42):
made one up and then I postedon TikTok and a lot of people like
to do and now we're here,o genius shows people are just gonna be
like line dancing, Yeah, thewhole crowd. I love it. That's
my goal. It'd be so coolto like look out, playing like stagecoach
and just seeing everyone just the linedancing. Oh so it's gonna happen.
It's gonna happen. It's just suchan amazing record and it's so catchy.
(01:04):
What does this song mean to younow that it's been like alt and taking
over the world right now? Imean it's like my baby, you know,
I'm like watching my child go outthere and like do her thing.
It's been. I mean, Ijust feel so blessed even have this opportunity
to have a song like this bigand it's like my first breakout moment,
and for it to be so bigand worldwide with country becoming such a big
(01:26):
genre, it just like means theworld to me. The whole album What
Happens Now is great thank you bythe way, which but also so different
from the Dirty Blonde mm hmm.So it made me think I was like,
wait, was she always doing country? Well? So I started in
country when I was eight. Istard writing songs. It was me and
(01:46):
guitar and it was all country songs. And I love country music. It's
always been my favorite genre as aconsumer. And then it wasn't until like
late high school, early college whenI started releasing independently and I started making
more pop music just because I wantedto like for it more. That's kind
of felt more who I was atthe time. And then I kind of
made a U turn when I releasedDirty Blonde. I was like, this
(02:07):
is not me. This doesn't feelauthentic. It was like the weirdest feeling
to release an album and like thinkthat right after, and so then I
kind of went this head spaces, like oh, I need to be writing
country music. And then I wroteit and I wrote Austin, and I
was like, oh, we foundit working. I like Dirty Blonde,
but what Happens Now it is justso natural, It's just so it's so
meat. You can just tell. It's like a different level of authenticity.
(02:29):
And that's what I was like, really chasing with my music for so long,
and I just had to go throughthe pop route. I had to
just you have to go through itas an artist to find yourself. I
love that I got you back here. Do you have a favorite on the
album? Being in California and whatHappens Now are my two of my favorites.
I love even Boy even Cowboys Cryand I Won and for two oh
(02:50):
my god, forty two Rexy twois like my baby. That's like my
baby, That's the one I wasgonna get you for sure. I also
love that you're from California because Ijust feel like I'm in the Bay Area.
So I feel like, you know, even us, we'll get like,
oh it's either San Francisco or Oakland. It's like there's so much more
and I feel like, so calor even California, they don't think country
necessarily, so no mean for youto like be from there and holding this
(03:15):
space, I mean, I thinkit just sheds a new light on country
music. Like country doesn't have tojust be from the South. There's so
many different types of music. Tome, country is all about the instrumentation
and it's all about the storytelling. And for me, I love storytelling front
to back. That's what my songsare so very visual you can see in
your head like a movie. Andlike, yeah, I'm from California,
(03:35):
but I'm from a small town onthe coast, Like that doesn't make it
any less country than someone from Georgia, you know what I mean. So
I don't know, it's just beenreally fun kind of exploring this new coastal
cowgirl in me and I love I'mloving it. I love I love it
for us too, I mean rightas Caliglifornia girls, because even like me
working on Top forty, like we'replaying so many country songs right now,
(03:58):
Like where do you see country rightmusic? Kidding right now because I've never
seen it this mainstream. I feellike, yeah, I mean, I
feel like people are realizing that countryis so much more to it than the
classic bro country that's been on theradio for so long, you know.
And honestly, what I think ishappening is that genre is just kind of
not being as important anymore, andit's all about is the song good?
(04:18):
And that's what Top forty is goingto be now. It's like the actual
song. It doesn't matter what genreit is. It's like is it a
good song? Is it not?How good is it? Blah blah blah.
So I love that you say thatbecause I'm finding like even like my
friends who maybe like for you know, mostly listen to hip hop or pop,
like they'll say stuff like, oh, I usually don't like country,
but I like this song exactly.I'm like, I'm turning these new people
onto it, like it's yeah, but like you said, it's like,
(04:41):
well, that's because you just hadone thing in your head of what you
thought country was, but it's actuallyso many other things, and it's like
so many more things. Is ita good song or is it not?
Mm hmm, yeah, I loveit? So where what is the main
message you want people to get fromyour song? Austin? I want people
to like claim their like self withthis. I mean, I wrote Austin
in a really hard time in mylife. I was going through some stuff
(05:06):
with this guy, and I wasletting him treat me super poorly. And
my main message with my fans islike I want them to be the most
unapologetic badass version of themselves, andI want to inspire them by like being
that to myself and like respecting myselfin that way, because life is way
too short to like be scared ofwho you are and like all that stuff.
And when I was with this guy, I definitely was dimming my light
(05:29):
down. And Austin's kind of thereminder of like, no, leave his
ass in a bar and get going, girl, Like you got this.
You have a whole life to live. And I love just the whole aspect
of like being more direct about itlike I feel a lot of times,
even myself in dating, I findmyself like making excuses for other people,
and it's like dijor boot stuff working. That's three exactly, you get a
girl. So I love it.I love it. So what's sex for
(05:50):
y'all? What's next? We havea deluxe version of the album What Happens
Now coming out late June. I'mso excited. We have five new songs
coming on and it is like thebest music I've ever written. I cannot
wait for people to hear the nextchapter. Are we gonna get a tour?
Oh yeah, we're touring. Weare opening up for Park and McCallum
