(00:23):
At ten o'clock today, we'll introduce you to our Colonel
Electric Superhero of the Week. She is from South Milwaukee.
You gonna be really impressed with her. At ten twenty
Brian Johnson had baseball coach at Greendale, going to come
in with a couple of number of his seniors, four
of them, and we'll talk from Greendale Baseball the first hour.
A couple of weeks ago, we had Morgan Schwartzen and
(00:45):
he was our Colonel Electric Superhero the Week. And I've
known his dad, Billy a long time. I've known his
uncle Julian a long time, and I wanted to get
back to talking to these guys about college basketball. Billy
coached at Carroll coach ripping Julie and has coached at
a really high level Georgia Southern Georgia Tech.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Where else Memphis Memphis and uh and Marquette Marquette.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yeah, yeah, So we have two different views of this, right.
My son played Division three, and so I understand I
kind of went through a little the recruiting with him
at that level, but that the level of ripping and
Carol is different than than Marquette Memphis, Georgia Tech, Georgia,
Southern Billy, How you been good?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Good?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
It's good to see you.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Great to see you.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Thanks for having story today, man, I'm sorry. Look Mortgan's
laughing over there. He played a little golf yesterday. I
played a ton. I just was going to get out
to Songbird and play nine, just gonna play nine. And
I was the first one out. Nobody in front of me,
a guy kind of behind me. So I let him
just go through because I was hitting three balls on
every shot right then to the way I normally swing,
(01:57):
and then trying to fix it and so you know,
shallowing the club and all that stuff. I got to
the sixth hole and a guy that I met out
at Songbird last year, ed Manning Sami a text said, Hey,
I hears Songbirds are open, you have any interest playing nine?
I go I mind whole six. You get out here
in half hour, I'll stick around and play nine with you.
So we got a chance, and we were playing two
(02:17):
balls at each hole. So I feel like I'm one
hundred and twelve years old today, Billy. I gotta be honest. Hey,
do you miss coaching, by the way, at the college level?
Speaker 4 (02:30):
You know, I left Carol in twenty nineteen and went
back to South where I teach and took over to
boy soccer program.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
So I missed it for I would say a year
to two years.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
I really enjoyed the six years I was at Carol
with coach Collmbs and the rest of the guys on staff.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
And what was your Were you more a day to
day guy the top assistant? Were you doing a lot
of recruiting with? And I don't know how at Carol
they break up what assistant coaches do, But the recruitment
side was that part of your your skill set?
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (03:04):
I was in charge of all the recruiting. So Kyle
Jones was a top assistant. He's from East Troy and
he's recently got the head job out in Iowa at
Simpson and but I was in charge of all the recruiting,
So I would, you know, get our guys, get our
staff to where they got to go each night each week,
and once we hit once we hit probably December January,
(03:29):
I didn't even go to practice half the time. Yeah,
I just we recruited a lot out of Illinois in Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
But I would I would head to Chicago mild School
in that car.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yeah, that car went to Morgan and that car is
officially retired as about a week ago. Yeah, it's it's
not turned over and two hundred and thirty thousand on it.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
So yeah, it's time. Julian different for for you. Did
you recruit a lot as well at the different colleges?
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Especially uh and first off, great to be back. I
really appreciate this is awesome, especially at at Georgia Tech.
And I kind of worked into our recruiting coordinator role
and uh and like I said last time, I really,
uh really embraced that. I really enjoyed that. I looked
at it just as an opportunity to you know, develop
(04:22):
relationships with with uh, you know, with young student athletes.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Hey, how would you at at your at that level,
how would you know? Would you go to AU tournaments?
Would you go to was it you'd be on places
like with sports, but all over the country looking at
rankings and trying to.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Figure I think I think at at the level bility
was that I think that might be the hardest. I
think probably division three, probably division two is probably the
hardest in terms of evaluating your pool who you know,
who to recruit. When you're at a place like I
think Georgia Tech, listen if they're from a talent standpoint,
(05:06):
because the reality is it all starts with that, right,
I mean, you're gonna develop, you're gonna you're gonna evaluate
character and skill and athleticism and all that, But it
all starts with obviously they've got to be you know,
decent enough to be to be talked about.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
And so forth.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
So to place like Georgia Tech, if they're not in
the top two hundred in the country, top two hundred,
three hundred, you know those rankings, three four star, then
you're not even you know, they're not even in your pool.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
So and there's a lot of you know, there's you
get a lot of help.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
There's a lot of those talent evaluators out there that
that do rankings, and they kind of again if you're
if if you're not in the top two three hundred,
you're not recruiting them. So it's it's easy. At the
high major level, it's very easy.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Do you know when I was coaching basketball over and
Martin Luther j R. Blount, who is the top assistant
that I always take, came and spoke to our kids,
and a couple kids in the back were chatting while
he was talking, and he lit him up a little
bit and he said, look, guys, I'm just going to
tell you. I'll let you go ahead and keep talking
(06:14):
back there. If you're six eight six', nine, right you're
five ten and you're six', one Got i've got two
hundred and five ten and six one, GUYS i can go.
Recruit and If i'm up in front speaking and you
don't think What i'm saying as smart is important enough
for you to stop chatting back, There i'll just move
on right. Now if you're you're six,' ten, YOU know,
(06:36):
I might i might overlook that a, little bit, but
guys there's not, you know you guys really should knock
it off and you should listen To what. I'm SAYING and, i,
thought man he is. So right Billy when, julian, SAID
look i think At THE division, iii level it's, really
DIFFICULT and i agree, WITH him. I do i think
he's looking at the top of, the top and he's
(06:57):
looking at the top. Two hundred you got to find
that six five six six kid that might have fallen
through the cracks a, little bit a kid that could
fit in the culture and fit through the academics of
what a Place like ripping or a place Like like
carol is demanding because you have to be a good
student athlete and you're not getting you're not getting athletic
(07:19):
money to. Come there you might get some. Academic money
but to be able to find those guys that would
be a good Fit, AT carol i think is. Really,
difficult yeah we, Would lose we would.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Lose guys, you Know, Come, January february march to a.
Scholarship school. Division, two, now well.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
You know there are guys going Up, to MINNESOTA Maybe
uw parkside because that's THE only d two around in.
Our state, BUT guys, i know in the, Football, side
billy there'd. Be guys i'd have guys from, You know
Lacrosse or Oshkosh or whitewater in studio and, they'd, go
look there's a kid that we, really wanted and he's
(08:01):
going up taking a twenty five hundred dollars scholarship Up
in minnesota just to be able to have street cred
AND say i got. A scholarship but nobody, ever says
well at? What level you know? How much and they're
gonna pay that in gas to go and their parents
are not gonna be able to see. Him play did
that drive you nuts to to Lose to division twos Up?
In minnesota.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
We Did we we lost a handful, of kids and
ironically a lot of them would. Come back, YOU know
i don't know if we got any on the bounce
Back at carol off the top of, my head but
a lot of kids would come back TO the wayak
OR the cciw and the.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Football side a lot of them started Up at Whitewater
and lacrosse And In Oshkosh.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Julian wentz and that's really important on the, front end
and you're in you're building relationships in the recruiting because
you will get them potentially on the, Bounce back so
especially if they if they do choose to go on,
another school you kind of gotta just bite the bullet
and uh and and, you know be the bigger person
(09:05):
because you might get that person on the.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
BOUNCE back i don't think you ever want to. Burn
relationships how difficult wasn't for both of?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
You guys when you either get you'd get the call
and hopefully you would get a call from a kid
that you would spend a lot of time trying to
get to come to your school and they decided to
Go to georgia or they decided to instead of Going
to carol they were Going, to concordia something, like that
and hopefully they they call you and. STAY coach i
really appreciate the sweat equity you put in and the
(09:33):
time you put in with me and, my family but
we've decided at this point. To go that's a difficult
phone call, to. Get, right yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
IT'S tough i mean because of all the like, you
said all the sweat equity and time effort energy you
put in and developing and especially the ones.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
YOU want i mean there's kind of that. OLD saying
i mean you you really you.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Really want to get the ones that, you want you
KNOW what? I, Mean yes and the worst case scenario
is getting the one that's gonna that's gonna end up,
killing you killing the, you know, culture killer all that
stuff and, so so especially the ones. You, want yeah
those are because of all, that time effort and energy.
Put in BUT like, i said you. GOTTA then i think,
it's critical especially now with the portal and like And
(10:16):
like billy, was, saying yeah And like billy, was saying
you want to be the. Bigger person hopefully if you've
already developed a really good relationship, and so chances are
you can, you know you can get them on the,
bounce back especially for Us In georgia Tech. In atlanta
atlanta was, you know such. A market. You bet we
got a lot. Of kids we got a lot of
(10:37):
kids on the. Bounce back kids didn't want to grow
up necessarily Going To georgia tech on the, front end
but if things didn't, Work out atlanta was a great
place to come.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Home, To, HEY billy i want to talk about your
dad a little bit in this. First segment how much
did you guys learn about the game, of basketball how
to deal, with kids how to deal, with parents how
to deal. With community he's from, Your, father oh pretty?
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Much, everything, yeah uh, you know he got us Going
early julian got going a little bit earlier. Than me
but back then we had we had basketball at the.
Elementary school so and then we had our little you
know junior black shirt you know program that started in i,
don't know fifth sixth grade, back then but between elementary
school basketball and playing you know junior.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Black, shirts look when you Talk About watsha, south basketball
your dad's name comes, up right it's it's it's kind
of like. He was he ran that for, a while
and he. Was demanding, you know he was a guy That,
that look it was. HIS way, i mean you're gonna
do it. This way and if you don't believe it
that this is the way to, do it, you know
it might take us a little bit to get you.
(11:45):
To wear but but he was the guy who. Ran
it And and, i'm wondering was there did you feel
a lot of pressure with with him running all that? Out, There, Julian,
uh no not.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
AT all i, just uh, you know and you look
back And what i've always said is he is the
absolute best at the development of fundamentals with with. Young
kids he was a teacher by, you, know career and,
you know and just just the art of teaching especially
(12:16):
to the to the, younger kids, AND demanding I mean
i demanding with, first graders, you know and when you'd
run camps and let alone our our junior blackshirt programs and.
All that but, you KNOW when i just think, OF
him i think of, you know teaching and, just fundamentals
and it's, you know It's it's billy obviously went. Into
(12:38):
education i've gone into education's being at, the forefront. You
know and uh and my mom's also, a teacher and
she's an excellent teacher and. And so but but one
thing of, My dad just think about fundamentals and the.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
Ability to really get through, to uh two. Younger kids
my staff felt learn a lot from.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Your father and we coached against. Each other, His, son
dustin was the same Age, as matthew and so, YOU
know mrg he would coach With with Randy murgh and,
You Know i'm we're in third grade and my kids
are doing, you know getting ready for. The game you
get five minutes to, warm up and his kids are
on the other side catching. Triple Threats and i'm thinking.
(13:19):
Third grade and that all came from. Your dad AND
when i took the Job At heritage christian and they
said you can hire. TWO assistants I thought i was
a pretty, good COACH but I Thought brian staffelt was
a better coach, and FUNDAMENTALS so i went and. Hired
him and then a Guy Named, derek CANADA who i
met In a sam's, wholesale club who Played, at iona
(13:40):
Played For, west point played For The orlando magic And The,
harlem glottriders was my other. Assistant coach and people were
like YOU and, i, go look both coaches are BETTER than.
I am they're. Better Coaches and brian on this side
because he learned all. Of that he learned a lot
of it from coaching with, your dad and and, YOU
know i, would, say look let's do, this, Drill, okay brian,
(14:02):
you know why don't you put your spin? On it
and it, would be, you know you're going to cross
below your knee when you, Catch it you're going to a.
Triple thread, you know all of that Jab STEP and
i learned a lot, From him AND when i asked him,
about it. It did it came back from coaching with,
your FATHER which i think Is really it's. Really, cool
hey you had talked about the NIL and i want
(14:23):
to talk a lot about that and. The portal we're
probably not going to have time. This segment we'll talk
about that a lot in the. SECOND segment i want
to ask, you this when you would go to watch
A Player rhode island was wash the coach had had
come in and we had talked about this last time you.
Were there how much how important was it for you
(14:44):
to get there a half hour before, the game not
just to watch, the game to watch how this kid
interacts with, his parents interacts with, the coaches with, his
teammates with the, other team. With referees how much went
into that into? The equation probably. Probably was it's, more important.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
You know and the same way if you visited, the school,
you know get, there early take advantage of of opportunities
just to, really, evaluate, Evaluate EVALUATE like, I said, i
mean you gotta get the ones that are are gonna
come that you're, gonna, get like you got to get, those.
Right right it's better to if if like and you talked,
about it does it? You know is it is it
(15:24):
a tough losing somebody That, you yeah but you'd rather
get the ones that you know you're gonna get right
rather than lose somebody that's not gonna be the right
fit and all that, and so, but yeah we'd always
uh be demanded to get their, you know head of
time and, warm ups watch, warm ups how they, interact
teammates even watch their, you know. THEIR parents, i, mean
(15:46):
yeah you get, into that start, evaluating that because that's
talk about. Relationship building you're gonna you're gonna build that
as much as.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
You know sometimes a kid really the.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
SAME thing i wanted to get to the. Parents' side
how how important was it for you as the Recruiter
for carol Or for ripping to be able to have
the parents with you and how much did you want
to know about how they interact and how they think
of their sons as a college, Basketball, player.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
Yeah we only recruited high character you. Know, kids yeah we.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Had to and we'd get a lot of those kids
and their parents on campus for football games in, The
fall so we had to front load a lot of
our recruiting in, the summer, you know leading up to their.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
SENIOR Year i carol used to be a client of
MINE when i was at the other, radio STATIONS and
i would be on that campus a lot in admissions
to talk about marketing and what. WE'RE doing i loved
the Vibe. OF carol i really DID like. I liked
i looked forward to Going and i'd get there a
little early and walk through the campus a, little BIT
(16:51):
and i just really liked the the ENERGY that i
FELT when i was on. That campus to get kids
on the campus and parents on the camp was.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
REALLY important, I, think yeah it's it's where it has
come in.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Thirty, years yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Is crazy the amount of land that they were able
to get in the community That, was yes and They
built they've, redone dorms they've redone things they've built at.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
It on so it.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Is uh and being IN, the cciw which is one
of The BEST division iii conferences for all sports in.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
The country is hard to get Kids from waukeshaw and
wanted to Play. At, carroll yes.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
It is it's hard To get it's hard to get.
Local kids and that's why we Went to illinois. A
lot it just we just couldn't get a lot of
local kids for.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Some REASON and I and i look the Kids from
waukeshaw and there's some really good basketball players that would
fit In, at carroll but they're the THOUGHT of i
don't want to be ten minutes FROM where i. GREW up,
i think look. FOR me i love the fact that
my son Played At Marinatha Baptist. Bible college he was
forty five minutes, for us so it. Was perfect and
(17:57):
if it, wasn't there he was probably going to Go
to concordion and play For, coach cassidy which had. BEEN
great i think that the kids in, that area and
Not Only walker show But, southeast wisconsin are missing the
boat because they if they get on campus and, they,
GO look i can still live, on CAMPUS but i
can get home in fifteen twenty minutes and my parents
(18:19):
could come watch. EVERY game i think they're missing the boat,
on THAT and i wish we could figure out the
whatever it has to be for them to want to,
stay home BECAUSE when i look at the Roster, For carol,
you're right it's still a Lot of. Illinois kids AND
when i talk to, their coaches, they're like we'd love
to have kids from our neighborhood that'll come. Play here
(18:41):
and sometimes we get a bounce backer kids that call,
And say i'm not happy at this School. IN minnesota
i might want to, come HOME but i wish we
could figure out how to wait to get kids that want.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
To, stay YEAH and i just don't know what. IT is,
i think, you know you hit on part. Of it
kids want to go away a.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Little bit, you know we we there was a there
were some other factors that came in. With, Academics, money.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah it's it's it's, not cheap.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Yeah right and wasn't.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Cheap either you just got to have, you know if
you can have a three point oh gpa or higher
and you had that twenty one A c t, or
higher that was.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Our, benchmark hey we're gonna go and pot.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Get to a break other side. The breakup THREE things
i WANT to i want to talk about in the.
NEXT segment i want to talk about it if you
believe we should have a shot clock at the high.
SCHOOL level i want to talk a little bit ABOUT
ni l AND then i want to talk about the
portal and and the OTHER thing i want to talk
about is. Prep schools they're popping up all OVER and
i want to get your opinion on if those are good.
(19:40):
Or Bad and i'm sure there's, a COMBINATION but i
want to get your thought. On that we were Talking
with Billy And. Julian schwartz billy coached At at ripany
coached at At At carol and and He Recruited julian
Marquette And georgia Tech And georgia Southern and memphis And two,
Division one, division three and recruiting, is recruiting but it's
(20:04):
a different a. Different animal and we're gonna talk to
these guys about some things and what what as a
junior in High school some dudes and don't because these
guys are gonna. Find it if You're on twitter and
you're on social and you're posting some things that you,
probably shouldn't these guys are gonna. Find it we're gonna
talk to them. About that i'm gonna get their. Picks
Too final, fours today that's why. They're here and we'll.
(20:26):
Find Out My saint john's team, is OUT so i.
Don't know my wife Still. Got houston and, trust me she's.
Still talking. She's talking You, do yeah you took?
Speaker 5 (20:35):
All, ONES yeah i took, All Ones.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Chuck shock this Is The varsity blitz high school, sports

i Was, WITH morgan i Was with billy's son and.
YOUR nephew I Thought saint JOHN'S and I still I
have houston and And and duke and The Amentite saint
john's winning the. Whole thing who do you like? Winning?
(21:22):
IT julian I, got DUKE BUT i.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
I feel awful having To pick duke Over. LIKE houston I,
love houston Do? YOU yeah I just i just love
what they represent and how they play and.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
All That but.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
I'd like to see. HIM win, I WOULD but I
got Duke.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Over houston And then Auburn, over florida And then Duke
over auburn in.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
The final you don't Think that you don't think that
the seventeen eighteen year old kids is going to catch
up to them at All because auburn's.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
AVERAGE five i just think their their, length defensively their ability.
To switch it's just, YOU know i and then they
can just score It like. Billy made we were talking the,
parking Lot like houston so, good defensively but they struggled.
To score whereas, You, KNOW duke i just think IS
(22:13):
probably i think the best team left at the on.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Both, ends yeah it'll.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Be interesting who do you like in?
Speaker 4 (22:19):
THE finals I, have houston wasn't it? At, All Okay
so i'm Cheering for. HOUSTON tonight I think i have
Them playing florida in. The, Championship boy but It's like,
JUELL said i mean just love watching How hard. Houston
plays here's something for high school kids, out there if
any of them. Are listening duke starting line Up like jewels,
WAS saying i think he's smallest guy six y four
(22:42):
and you know you got six seven six eight six
nine and those guys Wings The cooper flags wingspan.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Is, ridiculous yeah did? You THINK and i Was With
coach walls and the Guys From wisconsin lutheran Last week
Alex screen hes Going, to concordia which our picking save
student after, the week and the whole team showed. Up,
after yeah we met that picking. The pickings stay Next
To wisconsin luthor And To, coach Walls coach whiteside showed
(23:08):
up and then a bunch, Of players canipple boys all.
Of THEM and i was talking To coach WALLS and,
i said, you know he's probably one. And done, he, goes,
YEAH absolutely i think he. Probably is, AND look I
didn't i didn't know how Good car. Nipple was and
it's just fun to watch because, he does, you know
(23:29):
both sides of, the. Ball right he defends he and
he's not the, quickest guy but boy was he was
really well coached in. High, School julian when when when
kids are going deciding either to go from their senior
year to their freshman year in college or, even before
kids are going to these. Prep schools, for me with
(23:51):
all of them popping up all over, THE place, i,
think boy some of it's a, MONEY grab i. Believe
that but they're making some promises and and some of
them have a lot of success getting kids Placed in.
Division one you're feeling that when you were Recruiting At,
georgia tech having to to deal with prep, schools, good
bad or or. JUST necessary i don't.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Think at all you need to go to a prep
school like that, whole narrative, you know going to a
prep school is going to help you Get a division.
ONE scholarship I don't i don't necessarily agree.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
WITH that i think you can do that at your
at your local.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
High school, and uh, YOU know i, just, think boy
you better do, your research, you know and make SURE because,
i think like, YOU said i think there's some, good
ones some well, established ones but there's some others, That
YEAH billy.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Aau two over, the years when when my son was in,
third grade it was different than it, is, now right
it was select kids that were top of the TOP
plane au, and traveling and now, you know THEY look
i like the fact that if there's a place for
Kids like chapman's got eight, zillion TEAMS and i think
(25:05):
they do a really. Good job and depending on, your
level if you want to just get better and play
at the high, school level there are places open to
be able to, do that Like. Like chapman but it's
just it has changed a lot over. The years, in
fact when my son got to about, SEVENTH grade i.
Sent done there was so much just junk, going on
(25:25):
guys trying to steal players and trying to do all.
This stuff i'm wondering you're feeling ON the. Au, scene
well back in, MY day i wasn't. GOOD enough i
mean there was only a handful of teams in. The
state jules was really good and played on a REALLY good,
au team and, you know the the championship tournaments would be,
(25:46):
you know to Go to nationals would Be At Wisconsin
lutheran college a lot, of times and then, you know
you look forward to Going to nationals and playing Out
in VEGAS and i got to travel. Off, WORLD yeah
i got, to TRAVEL but i wasn't.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
GOOD enough i got CAUGHT and i went OUT for
au one time and didn't, make it which was which.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Was fine BUT like, i.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Think one of the best things that, We did morgan
went down and Played With randy Jones At.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
East troy they would work out up to four days a.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Week in the spring and then they just went to
local one day shootouts and a lot of them Were
in waukeegan or down At the Rexbux.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
And kenosha so.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
My grandson's playing on one Of the chapman teams and
that's it's all going to be, local STUFF which. I
love who did you? PLAY for i.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
PLAYED cash i had a ten, year run eleven. Year
run EVERY year I. Played aau we either we qualified.
For nationals we either wanted or. Took second it. Was
incredible my. First year my dad put me. On down
it was the best thing he. Ever did the best
thing he ever did was he made me go play
(26:55):
with the older kids Out, of milwaukee AND so. I
PLAYED and i was in, grade school probably starting in
third grade With, jose winston.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Mister Basketball he's JOSE shooting a couple of. Weeks In jose.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Winston was the greatest grade school middle school basketball player of.
All time like it's the stuff he could do in,
grade school, Like you i'm talking like third. Fourth grade
we'd run a little pick and. Roll offense he'd come
off a ball screen and then throw around the.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
Back pack it.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
WAS INCREDIBLE i i Coached Aid saint bernadette when he
was At, holy cross and we weren't. VERY good I Had,
derek berger but other, than that. Not much playing At.
Holy cross he would get them up twenty and then
stop shooting and get all those. Guys involved and if
we get it, to fourteen you kind of give me a,
little look and he'd go get eight and get him up,
twenty two and then he'd stop and after THE game
(27:45):
I remember i. Thanked him he was like in sixth
grade and he kind of looked at ME and, I
go i know what you did and you. GOT that,
i mean he's got a million, dollar smile, Right yeah and,
HE goes i don't know. WHAT'S time, i, go yes.
You do you could have beat us by, fifty yeah
and you kept it. To TWENTY and i. Appreciate that, he,
SAID yeah i had.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
No.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Problem, coach yeah he he did things with a ball
at That age i'd.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Never, seen yeah, and so uh so that was my.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
First experience AND then i played for a long time
With The police academy out of uh Out of. MILWAUKEE
week i kind of was the first one to to.
Start that and then uh a couple of years in
between played With The scene rebels And Remember. Karan butler, oh,
YEAH yeah i Played with kuran a couple of Years
in racine, and, so YEAH so i had a great
run AAU was i mean it, was Awesome like, BILLY
(28:32):
said i mean it was it was like being able
to compete for a state championship and which always did
and then go on. To nationals that was, your, summer.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Yeah and he it was did you Go. To atlanta
was was that going on at? That point the shoot, the.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
No and that's what's that's. What's changed it's the the,
you know the shoe companies have. Changed everything so now it's,
you know the top the top teams in. The state
you're you're gonna be usually on a shoe, company team
whether it's you know that You got, team here which
is On the, nike, circuit huh otherwise you Got the.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
Adida circuit We've.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Got brian donaldson's going to come in a couple of
weeks and we're gonna we're gonna talk a little Bit
About team hero and talk about some of the some
of the other things that are going on at at. That,
level heybe before we get to, YOUR break i needed
to get this your thoughts on both, of you on
on us possibly doing a shot clock at the high.
SCHOOL level I Had sean krider In from homestead AND
(29:28):
and I brought i bring him In because i'll tell,
you what he is just one of the SMARTEST guys
i know when it comes to high, school sports and
he is not afraid to tell you what. He's feeling
he will come right out, and, say look Here's what.
I'm thinking and and, here's why and he. BRINGS receipts
i didn't think, that BEFORE but i think. It NOW
and i love having him in the STUDIO because i
(29:50):
just think he's really really smart and he'll tell you what,
he's feeling whether you agree with him, or not and
he'll have the discussion. With you i'm wondering what you guys.
Think about was It stated wisconsin high school basketball possibly
going to the, SHOT clock.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
I would, say yes, just, BECAUSE uh i just think
the more you could be, aligned to, you know the.
COLLEGE games, i think, YOU know I, THINK foba nba are,
trying to, you know kind OF align i, think college,
you know college and. HIGH school I think i just
think the more the game is is kind. OF aligned
(30:24):
i would say this, real quick before you go to the,
shot CLOCK because i get that can cost some money
and the logistics of.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
All that just put in a put in a block. Chart.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Circle please the high school basketball needs a block Chart circle,
i've SEEN because i think it's dangerous without that block.
Chart circle and high school referees they call so many
charges literally underneath, the basket and it is dangerous plays
because because high school coaches do an excellent Job in
wisconsin of teaching and, taking Charges and i've just seen
(30:58):
way TOO many, i think where it's just dangerous plays
and all you got to do is paint.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
The line it's.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Not HARD before i Get to billy your answer on
the shot clock when You said, wisconsin coaches it made
me THINK when i have coaches college coaches from all
over the country that come on this show a lot
of times via cell phone for a segment. Or two
if they're recruiting a kid from, this area they'll make
a comment that and they'll. Say this, they'll, SAY look
i don't know if, you understand but kids that we
(31:25):
get from The, state wisconsin these guys are really. Well
COACHED and i don't know if they're just saying that
because they're on this show and We'll. Talking wisconsin your
thought on that from the places that you coach when
you're recruiting kids from.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
The state with, ONE hundred i THINK the wbca is
the best run state organization in the Country because i've
seen all. These others AND then i, just think, YOU
know i was talking about earlier about my Dad with
fundamentals and he started Coaching With.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
DICK bennett i just think the.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
History of wisconsin basketball from, the top implementing fundamentals and.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
JUST them i was just being.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Well, COACHED Yes i i've certainly. SEEN that, i think,
you Know You're indiana's wisconsin's.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
You, Know yeah i'd like to, hear THAT because i
never know if they're. Saying, that no and then they
go on a Show from illinois they say the, Same
thing and they go on some Show from montana and
say the. Same Thing so i'm glad to hear you, Say,
that billy your thought on the shot clock at the high, School.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
Level i've been out of it for six years NOW
when I left carrol. Coaching soccer i'm not letting you off.
THAT easy i would say the flow of the game
since they Went to haves has has picked up. The,
TEMPLE however i was just talking to somebody since. THE
tournament i don't know if it was a sectional game
or fills up, at STATE and i didn't watch many
(32:44):
of the state games, this year but somebody had like
a two minute possession and and and we.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Got well and then the Girls side division two tosi's
wanted they went to. Three overtimes in, the overtimes there was. Two,
possession yeah they were. HOLDING it i, saw that, you
know the four, corner thing and, AND look i. GET
that I loved i'm Still Like sean kreider, Was saying
i'd like to go back. TO quarters i loved HALVES
(33:12):
when i was coaching With. Coach wallersheim it gave the
flow of it and we got a chance to get,
kids different like a little bit, MORE time, i thought
because it, wasn't, like well there's only two minutes left
in the, first quarter let's not make. ANY changes i.
Liked IT and i DIDN'T know i would like IT
because i was against IT until i got involved. In,
IT look i don't. Like change been holding hands with
(33:34):
the same girl since nineteen. Seventy, seven right we owned
one house and now we bought a KIND of i don't. Like,
CHANGE right i had a mustache until two years ago. Or,
Something anyway BUT once i got involved in it and
kind of, FELT it I thought i. Liked It i'm
i'm one percent hoping that they do the. Shot clock
what is is it?
Speaker 3 (33:52):
A money is it the small towns and the? Small,
schools yes that's What that and who's going to?
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Do? It you crider had a, great idea why don't
we hire one OF the, jv referees guy that reps
the FRESHMAN game, jv game hire them to stick around
for the varsity game and and, run it.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
And just started with the varsity.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Level, first yes started with the varsity. Level first i'm,
TELLING you I think chrider could probably sell me ice
in the middle. OF winter i believe THAT because i
just when he when he just talks about it, so
passionately and he's done all the research, with it and
SO when i had him, in STUDIO like i was
leaning towards it and then listening, TO it, i thought,
(34:30):
he's right let's let's do. This thing and he doesn't
think there's any chance that it's gonna happen for they
they may, say okay but then it's not going to
get started for a couple of. Years yet and that's
kind of how that stuff's gonna have. To HAPPEN BUT
i i certainly believe it before we get to. A,
break julian when when when you're recruiting at the level
(34:51):
you were, recruiting with how much background stuff do you
do on the kids you're recruiting or do you know
how much how much on their? Social media how much
are you talking to teachers in. The school how much
you talking to people in, that community, because look it's
it's a it's an, expensive date and it can't.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Be you can't get, it wrong can't get it you
can't get.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
It wrong? How much how much research did you on
the kids that you're? LOOKING at?
Speaker 2 (35:17):
A lot you going in depth as much. As possible like,
you said it's not just, the coaches it's it's people
in the, school obviously, you, know parents other. Family members,
you know you're just like, you said get there before,
the games you're, staying after you're.
Speaker 7 (35:36):
Watching interactions would would, you guys would you guys know
if a kid might be a one and done kind?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Of, kid yeah that's what you, got that That's that
would you still go after.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
That if it was, the right if it was? The right,
you know that's where you. Gotta be you gotta. BE
smart i always it's a great point as much as
because you can, recruit everybody but you got to be
very very smart in your time and your efficiency into
like who not to recruit because to. Waste time you.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Know that that's probably the. Most, important, yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Yeah we were.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
DOWN there i mean think about, you know you're We're.
In atlanta we're surrounded by, You, Know, Auburn, alabama kentucky
all these, you know.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
You got To know.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Bus's thing, was always if you don't have a champion in,
that circle somebody that's going to bed, for you like,
you know maybe somebody in their family or somebody that's
related to the kid or connected to. The kid if
you don't have, a champion it's going to be.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Awful, TOUGH hey i can tell you THIS if i
was IF if i got my first division ie, varsity
college big time, SCHOOL job i would. CALL you i would.
CALL you i just want you to, know that spend
enough time with, you NOW and i look if if
it's something that you're praying about and you want to
(36:56):
get back, TO it i hope. It happens AND and
i think that the way you come across is EXACTLY
how i want an ambassador for me in. My program
to go to the kitchen table and the things that you.
TALK about i would have you on STAFF and i,
would yeah you, KNOW what i can make you. Some
(37:16):
money we talked about that a couple of. WEEKS ago
i found out there's a lot of ways to make
some money where you get to a break other side of,
The break Billy And. Julian, Schwartz look i've known these
guys a long time and a big fan of. Their
family and the Fact that morgan a couple, of years
a couple of weeks ago was Our Current electric Superhero
the week does not. Surprise me he's a really. Good
(37:36):
kid other Than Picking saint john's THE way i, Picked, it, yeah, yeah,
YEAH yeah i don't know what we, were thinking. Young
man it's good to. See you by, The way it's
good you could go On The Current electric facebook page
and take a Look at morgan's picture in his bio
and he is a great representative for this family and
Walk Shots South. High school this Is The Varsity Blitz
High School, sports show presented as always by Your local
(37:59):
Pick and save And met, market stores Only On fox
sports nine twenty In Your iHeart. Radio app welcome back
To The Varsity Blitz High School, sports show presented by
Your local Pick and Save And metro. Market stores coming
From the donovan and Jorganst and Heating And cooling studios
at ten o'clock will introduce you to Our Current electric Superhero.
(38:19):
The week She's From South Milwaukee. High school at, Ten Twenty,
brian johnson head baseball Coach, at greendale and four captains
are going to be, in STUDIO and i think he's
thinking it's going to be a really good year. For
them and We'll ask brian about that in studio with me.
Right now Billy And, julian schwartz Along With morgan schwartz
are a Former Current electric superhero Of. The, Week, hey
(38:44):
billy when we were talking about the idea of really
doing a deep dive on some of the guys that,
you recruit especially at the Level that julian, was recruiting
But at, carol too you made a comment in the
first segment we really went after high care, character KIDS
and i think that that's especially a Place, like carol that's.
(39:05):
Really important if you get one or two bad apples
into a program, like, that man it can set you
back a couple. Of, Years, right.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
Yeah we just never went after, you know if there
was a red flag or those guys weren't around for,
now three probably.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
We're not how big of a deal? Is it, and
look when you sit and do the SHOW like, i
do and have high school kids in here all, the
time and you, tell them, you know don't don't screw
around freshman and sophomore year and then try to get
your grades up, because look it's it's gonna. Hurt you
they look at, me, like oh, come on, o man
(39:43):
you don't know what you're. Talking ABOUT and i, get
that but but it's it's important for kids to understand
that if if you want to play basketball at the,
next level or football, or baseball look you've got to
you've got to be a student athlete in order to
get in. The school and it's important for kids to
understand that part.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Of, it yeah we we always talked to the head
head high school coach when we.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
WERE recruiting i appreciate right away because, sometimes.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
They, oh yeah there's there's a lot of people that
just don't talk to the.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
HEAD coaches i never got that because, as coaches we
see these kids. Every day And coach wallersheim, was that,
you know He's a deanish Students At, martin luther so
he'd know if they were coming into his office and
get kicked out. Of class and he always his whole,
deal was you can't be undisciplined for eight hours during
(40:36):
the day and then come to a basketball practice and
be disciplined. You can't you can't turn that. Part on
i'm glad and thank you for that that you guys
would talk to the coaches and they they can sure
shine a light on some of.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
These, kids yeah you got to find out right away
if there's. Any, flags yeah, you know Especially FOR, division
iii because we got to get, you know we got
to get the kids not only that, are talented but
the ones that we can develop otherwise they're gonna, you
know get a.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Scholarship.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Eventually yeah what do you miss most about being on
staff At Like? Georgia, tech well what part of your
job and what part do you miss? The least let's
start with. The most what do you miss?
Speaker 2 (41:16):
The most probably just the, YOU know i think if
you're in it for the, right reasons is watching the growth,
of development, you know of the kids you're, working with
and along with that just the, you know. YOUR passion
i think your passion is probably is, for me it,
was teaching, you know teaching and. Building RELATIONSHIPS so i
think those things go hand. In hand so watching your
(41:37):
teaching have success with these kids and ultimately watching them
grow and develop and become, you know better on and off.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
The court what's the least what what part don't you miss? So,
much gosh.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
Good question the. TRAVEL part i, LIKE travel i kind of,
you know travel is kind. OF fun i mean we travel,
first class. YOU know, i mean so traveling his.
Speaker 1 (42:01):
Way to traveling, our way doing a whole, different animal
driving through snow stores to watch some kid down in
some small Town. In illinois you don't miss that. TO
you i don't KNOW how i.
Speaker 4 (42:13):
DID it i got done with school at three O'clock
and i'd hit the road and hit Traffic. IN chicago,
i mean, there's TIME so i, Was, going hey it
took me three hours on the way down with traffic
and two on the. Way back and it was the
middle of.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
The week you look up and there'd be a private
Jet From georgia tech over, your head and your brother
would be up there recruiting some other kid in the City.
Of chicago and and and you didn't miss. That part.
That's awesome how good were you at the, kitchen table by, the?
Speaker 2 (42:38):
WAY GOOD I i, I yeah I think, i connected uh.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
VERY well i think, YOU know.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
I was, able, to uh, you know help help bring
in a lot of a lot of, good players, and
UH like, i said just really really. Enjoyed it getting
back to your, other question the sickness, of losing and
THAT'S what i, don't miss, you know JUST like I
mean i was one of those some, you know some
(43:06):
coaches can kind of move forward and. ALL that i
just just losing, just yeah just it's, just sick, you
know for it stays, with you probably unhealthy too long and.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
All that so that's, you know just, that stress.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
That sickness why doesn't winning make us feel really great
for a? Long time, it, doesn't know it's.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Almost just a piece of it almost just brings, you
up piece like. Temporary peace it's it's not like necessarily you're, just,
LIKE okay i, can least, You, know.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
Yeah but now here. Comes, right look the winning part
never brought me as much JOY as, i thought and the. Losing,
chust yeah up half the night trying to figure out
why and how and what can we do to to to?
Fix it if you only the best player you, ever
Coached and i'm sure there's a number, of them, but
man you give me one.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Or Two, that yeah, THE guys, i mean THE course
i think OF an nba players Obviously, had markquette those
early guys He Had, Wesley, MATTHEWS novak I love, jerrell McNeil,
You Know, dominique james those, Were Those, lazarre hayward and
Then uh memphis we had some, awesome players nobody really
(44:17):
And Then. Georgia tech the guy that's Kind Of jose
alvarado is uh, you know he's kind of a, Fan. Favorite,
josha yeah. He's, awesome yeah they're they're, they're great.
Speaker 1 (44:27):
Great, guys man, That's, awesome billy best player you? Ever coached,
OH geez i.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
DON'T know i had so many.
Speaker 1 (44:33):
Of them.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
We've had a good run the last.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
Four years we've we've had three winning seasons out of
the last four and and we turned the program right
around uh, year one so it's it's been.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
Six years most of those kids playing a lot, of
soccer they, play indoor they played club a lot of
a lot.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Of our morgan might be the only multi sport athlete that.
We have most of most of my guys are or
soccer only and play a lot.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Of club how good is that Conference For soccer?
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Classic?
Speaker 1 (45:05):
Eight, yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
YEAH outstanding i mean the arrowheads and the one horse
Talents of Cams. And muskeegos oconn's really. Really good we're
going To the woodland now. Next year but for, soccer
wise to, be honest it's it's not gonna be.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Much, different, no yeah really.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Good soccer wisconsin has some really good soccer programs throughout.
The state they. Really DO and I worked i don't
know if you. KNOW this i worked For the wave In.
THE rampage i was the general manager for an indoor
soccer Team in chicago for. A year i ran it
into the. Ground horrible if you look a look online
GOOGLE worst gm in the history of, professional sports my
(45:41):
picture might show up on, that THING but. I DIDN'T
when i started working For, THE rampage i would leave
the games at Halftime And bob gansler was the, head
Coach and ganser, was like what's. YOUR problem, i go
it's like watching paint dry. For me and in the
off season he would bring me down to his office and,
HE said i sport in your sport. Or not, he goes.
(46:02):
WE'RE similar, i go what do? You, talk no not.
At all, He goes watch we're playing man. Right Now
watch we're going to run a pick. And roll now
we're going to. His Zone and, I'm like and he
taught me the GAME and i fell in love. With
it it's a beautiful sport. To watch i'm driving through
a park and there's. A game i'll sit and watch
it for a while and my, wife's like what are.
YOU doing. I go ganser taught this sport, to ME
(46:24):

Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
Can you. Quit laughing i'm gonna get to your stuff
here in. A minute don't you be laughing at? My
guy ben?
Speaker 12 (01:11:13):
Over there i'm smart off the basis, it's good good.
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
For you did you know coming in this year that,
you guys, And look i'm going to say that you're
not going to TAKE six i think you're moving up in.
That conference but that's. Just me did you do you
guys have a feeling with that many seniors that that
this year is going to be is going to be
a special year for?
Speaker 11 (01:11:34):
You?
Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
Guys, oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:11:35):
For sure we've got a really good core group that
has been together since. SOPHOMORE year a lot of the
a lot of seniors since made the team, sophomore year
and we've been playing together, three years so we're a
very connected GROUP and i just feel like something special
is gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
This year are you a multi? Sport?
Speaker 12 (01:11:51):
ATHLETE no i am not baseball as, my kaden?
Speaker 13 (01:11:55):
Are you i'm a three horsey. Sport?
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Off, yeah yeah what? OTHER sports i?
Speaker 13 (01:11:59):
Play soccer, and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Well yeah can you shoot the ball a?
Speaker 13 (01:12:02):
Little BIT or I mean i can shoot. The ball
i'm a really good. Defender though, so yeah did you
get a lot? Of time, OH yeah i started.
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
For, basketball YEAH so i used to Coach At. MARTIN
luther i don't like you a. Whole lot oh, Oh
YEAH oh i was at, That, game, YES sir i
knew you, looked familiar except you. Never smile well you
smiled once because they left. You open you hit a couple,
OF threes, i know and then they. Left you but
that left he hit way too. Many threes yeah, OH.
Speaker 13 (01:12:28):
Yeah, i, mean yeah he's. Pretty good we HAVE.
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
Left, I know. I know i'm not happy. With that
that last game for My my SPARTAN and i retired
a few. Years ago LAST game i, ever COACHED and
i should have worn the ring and shown it to
you because we want to. Stay championship that was a
really good game until the last. Four minutes, oh.
Speaker 13 (01:12:48):
Yeah that we blew the.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
Door open, my goodness you always send you guys to
like hit eight shots in a row. OR something i
knew he. Looked familiar i'm more of A. Bet ben
let's rip him a, little bit. You, know yeah you
should have shot the ball a little. Bit, More, hey
brian talk a little bit about this this year's, team, strengths,
weaknesses speed not that you're gonna go station, to station
(01:13:11):
you're gonna hit a lot of. Home runs what are
you thinking with? This team we.
Speaker 7 (01:13:14):
Got to do small ball. AND run i think we
got to put pressure on teams, right now and and
that involves always having a threat to bunt and hit.
And RUN so i think we're. A team we got to,
Play defense we got to field. The ball pitchers got
to give us. An opportunity they're going to. Do that
but we play small ball and battle, the plate and
we're we're gonna.
Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
Be tough then at, that.
Speaker 7 (01:13:33):
POINT good i like that because we look, as coaches
we we have to figure out what kind of talent.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
We have and if you don't have a lot, of
thumpers guys that are going to hit the ball over.
The fence let's play a little small goat, ball right
go go first, to third a little bunt and try
to hit the ball the right field and get. Guys
home that kind. OF stuff a couple of. Years AGO
and i don't know how many. Years ago you REMEMBER
when i had you guys in and the one, kid
called we got him, a prompting.
Speaker 7 (01:14:00):
Got a prom date? On air how can you? Forget
that you?
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
KNOW what i saw them a couple of, years ago
and they they were still. HANGING out i was to,
get married and, GET married. I take i think they're
going to call and ask me to officiate.
Speaker 7 (01:14:13):
The way you're.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
In it. I've, done hey by, the way and you
guys need prom dates, or anything because we'll call him
and get them live on, the radio like we did
the shortstop. Back then what was? His NAME and i.
Don't remember oh here the, funniest. Part guys he, was,
like yeah we'll, do that and we call this girl
and we had her on AND and, i, said hey
he's got a question, for it and she and, he
(01:14:35):
goes do you want to go to a problem? With
me and, she, goes no, uh huh and it was.
A moment that's. What happened look at your hou and
then everybody it was a moment where time stopped and
everybody looked. At him and then, She goes i'm, just
kidding what took you? So long and he, Was like i'm.
NOT kidding i was going. TO transfer i WAS gonna
i was never showing up at the. School AGAIN and
i absolutely. Loved it this, many seniors and we talked,
(01:14:58):
about leadership and we talked about, you know culture and stuff.
Like that when you have a group that many seniors on,
a team you got a chance to do some really.
GOOD things i. Believe that and you've got guys that
have been in, the program that, know you that know how,
you operate what practices are going to be like you do?
YOU like, i mean they know, your, drills man they hear,
(01:15:20):
your voice they know what they're coming to practice. To
do do you like that or do you like it
when you've got to reteach all this stuff to.
Speaker 7 (01:15:27):
YOUNGER kids i like the challenge. OF both I like
i like the character of the guys. We have and
we're in a unique spot this year because we have
three guys who were part of our. State team we were,
State semifinalists we were in the, final four, you know
when they were freshmen and their seniors now and we've
had a lot of sustained success in, our program and,
you know we're proud. Of that but this is a
unique situation and we. Like it we like when we
(01:15:50):
have to prove. People wrong we've been talking about that
all week and, you know we're we can't wait to
get out.
Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
OF here i look forward. TO that i always thought
that our kids played better when they had a chip on,
their shoulder AND sometimes i would lie to. Our kids.
YOU know i was out in the hallway before the
game and a bunch of parents, are like these guys
are way. Over ranked they shouldn't be fifth in. The
state they they're not even all. That good nobody ever,
Said THAT but i have to do that to get our.
(01:16:17):
Kids understand these guys know what the rest of the
conference right now thinks. About THEM and i think that
that that that's a good place to start the. SEASON
with i, believe that you, KNOW what I think we're
gonna get to a Break and i'm going to kick
you Away and i'm going to keep all four of
these guys ON and i will talk a little bit
with our, other seniors With with luke And. WITH cam
(01:16:39):

favorite memory being part of. This PROGRAM but i WANT

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):

the signals, right indicators skin and skin beltus to, the
font all the. Easy, ones no he's not giving us any.

he teach you like you're hitting what you're doing wrong
better and, we're like here's always a goal be connected as.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
A team when you were a freshman on varsity and
then we don't need to name, any names but how
was that senior class? To you, because, sometimes look. It's
hard it's hard because, they're thinking here's a here's a,
young guy maybe you should wait. His turn he might
be taking some time away, from us and that's a
difficult position to. Be in but how was that senior
(01:22:25):
class to you when you were? A freshman.
Speaker 11 (01:22:27):
They're great they took us three freshmen in and they,
just like let us be ourselves and.
Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
Be part of. The team be part of. The team
do you have any freshmen on varsity? This year because it's,
senior late. It's sophomores we have, two sophomores so you,
know what remember how those guys treated you as freshmen
and they accepted us and let's be part of. The
team make sure that you guys treat them the. Same
way so two years, from NOW when i, have them then. They,
(01:22:54):
go man the four seniors on, that team we learned
how to lead from from the. THOSE guys i think
