It's time for Vikings Country, broughtto you by Miller Lyte. Now here's
your host of Vikings Country from kand the Vikings Radio Network. Muss Bright
Young basing a Blitzen, Harrison Smithand the ball ame out. Come on
it picked up, Bye dude, jay wanum Ass inside the ten touchdown d
(00:28):
j Wanham's first National Football League touchdownhas tied the game at thirteen or man
rush. He's hit and he's sacked. He is hit and sacked and taken
down by the player of the game, Harrison Smith with his third sack this
game, his second sack as hethrows his helmet in joy to the Viking
(00:52):
sideline. First time he ever hada two sack game in his career.
This is his one hundred and sixtyninth game. Play m at three sacks
today. Ye all right, hot, Welcome to Vikings Country, ladies and
(01:17):
gentlemen with the Miller Lite. We'rehere Badness Heights, We're at Jimmy's.
I Muss and special guests for ushere today, Harrison Phillips. Yes,
it's great to be back on withyou guys. Thanks for the long waited
invite. What do you mean,Oh, come on? Now people have
(01:37):
been reaching out for a while.I know, I know, I hear
that, I hear. Also, you turned down an opportunity for the Twins
game, which, by the way, twins win. Ladies and gentlemen,
clap it up for that three one. You could have done a lot of
different things, but you showed uphere and I appreciate that. Loyalty.
Man horrible Harry the nickname there, and it's far from it if you get
a chance to meet this guy lasttime that we hung out since that time,
(02:01):
you're married now married man, Yes, yes, life's good so far.
Yeah, you and Shaye and shesaid yes, and the whole work
so yeah, yeah, long timecoming, long overdue. It's on me.
But we we did it right andit was great. Are you like
every other married couple or you're liketelling your friends like, really, it's
no different. I mean we weremine went mine, went wedding, honeymoon
(02:25):
and then kissing goodbye, and Iwas gone for training camp. So the
first couple of weeks were really easy. But you know, now we're back
in this routine and yeah, man, it's it's it's solid. It's good.
Yeah, congratulations. Uh. Thebiggest question though, is how is
skunk but face? Oh Martin,God, he's incredible, and yeah,
(02:46):
sorry is my dog. My wifeactually, uh has a huge passion for
animals, and so we've we fostered. She fosters a bunch of animals through
some of the local rescues here.I think we just had two or three
from second hand hounds most most lately. So Marty is learning to share and
learning, you know, to bearound others. That the whole world doesn't
(03:07):
revolve around him, but we suretry to make it. We hear Taylor
swipt and shake it off kicking offthe segment. We'll get into some of
that a little bit later here.I'm sure you're very excited about that because
no one's talking about it. Butwhat we are talking about is that win
against the Panthers, Ladies and gentlemen. Yeah, Gillo on the road and
Marcus Davenport, My goodness, we'veall been hearing about it. You guys
(03:29):
obviously saw a little bit. Youknow, the most fans did get a
chance to see when he comes out, and that guy is disruptive to say
the least. Yeah, I've beena fan of his. We actually trained
together coming out of the combine Wegot a picture together all flexing in our
workout stuff from twenty seventeen or eighteenor something, and we're locker mats now.
But yeah, he's an incredible footballplayer, and you know, I
(03:52):
know he's been itching to get backout there. I think that's something that
sometimes overlooked as fans is these injuriesare real things, and if you can't
go out there and be your onehundred percent self, it's obviously going to
affect you know, your play orwhatever. So you want to make sure
you can go out there and putgreat stuff on film. And so we're
so thankful to get him healthy, thanks to our staff and everybody. You
don't make sure he's feeling good becausehe was disrupted his head, you know.
(04:13):
And then you've been here. Thisis your second season here with the
Minnesota Vikings. Harrison Phillips since myguest here at Vikings Country with Millerlyte,
the official beer sponsor of the MinnesotaVikings. Harrison Smith ends up having just
a monstrous game where he's got thethree sacks he had of course that strip
sack, fourteen tackles. I mean, that's an incredible game. No matter
who you was, it's an incredibleseason, right, dude, Harrison smith
(04:38):
Man. I remember finally on theplane after I had, you know,
things chilled off a little bit.I just shook his hand and I was
just like in awe to be doingit at that high of a level for
this long and to dang near singleHandley winnifs a football game. He's a
He's a really cool guy. Imean, I I'm a fan. I'm
(04:59):
just I'm a fan of a teammateof mine. That doesn't happen a lot
in my career, but I'm ahuge fan of his. And gosh,
Hall of Fame. You grow asweet beard, my friend. And I
don't mind telling you that sitting isclose to you. Yeah, it's it's
glorious mustache. I'm married now,I know, I know, I know
what you're smoking for mustache Monday.Did you take did you take part of
(05:20):
that? And how did you approachit? And thank god that that didn't
happen before you got married? Yeah? Yeah, we did. Uh,
I partake. There was a handfulof people, you know, Kirk was
really trying to fire it up,and I took the approach of we got
a lot of grown men that cangrow out some impressive facial hair, so
I might have to take it outof that category. And I went full
(05:40):
costume with it, and uh pulledout the stone cold Steve Austin a little
you know, go tee the wholething. And I believe I was you
know, I was a runner up, but they said that they couldn't give
it to me based on the costumeitself. But Halloween's coming, so I
might just reuse it all. Yeah, are you guys big in the Halloween
h Yeah, you know, theteam's most most NFL's teams do a player
(06:00):
only a Halloween event where they'll runout of place and do a costume contest
and all that stuff. And inthe years past, we've kept it pretty
I don't know, maybe immature likeDisney stuff or Nickelodeon stuff. Oh yeah,
funny of stuff. Yeah, anduh, you know, maybe we
step it up in more adult, scary something else. So we're we're in
the mix right now. Do youhave any recommendations? I don't. Well,
(06:23):
maybe you guys can go Travis Kelseyand that's a good one. That's
funny. So everyone is talking aboutthis, we might as well get this
out of the way. Everyone istalking about, of course, Johnny Pecker,
I mean Johnny Hecker, Paul Allenon the call. I don't know
if you've heard this, but yeah, Pa was on the call and Johnny
(06:44):
Hecker was about to punt and justkind of kind of slipped. Sure slipped.
Sure you've talked to p A.Yeah, sure. What do you
think of this whole trailer thing? That's what they're calling always ash up the
name, So Travis and Taylor, the whole trailer thing. And if there's
(07:06):
a chance that she actually comes toUS Bank Stadium, is that at all
distracting? Distracting for the opposing teamor the home team in this case,
I don't. I don't believe.So no. I mean I think sometimes
you'll be on a TV timeout orsomething and they'll show famous people at the
stands or who is at the gameand stuff. I think it's cool.
(07:27):
I mean, I I admire anybodywho does incredible accomplishes incredible feats in there,
uh you know, in their intheir field. And so for Taylor
Swift to accomplish everything she's done inthe music industry, obviously you have to
tip your hat to that's extremely impressive. So, yeah, she wants to
come out. I'm sure maybe mightdrive ticket prices up or something, but
(07:48):
I'm winning. I'm focused on winninga football game this weekend. And it's
honest. Can do pretty yeah, can can lock in on that. Let's
be honest. If you're going andTaylor Swift shows up at US Bank Stadium,
it'll be the deepest ticket you boughtto actually see, right yeah.
Probably. Hey, you gotta feelkind of good just a little bit,
you know, it's finally not aquarterback, right. Quarterbacks always get you
(08:11):
know, the starlets and the youknow, the big musicians, big names,
the big celebrities and stuff like that. It's kind of nice, right
Yeah. I think that the tightends are on the come up for real,
not just with Travis in this situation. In the last couple of years,
you've started to see that position getthe recognition it deserves. And look
at you know, our tight endroom is one of the deepest in the
NFL, and we love our guys. Harrison Phillips is my guest here and
(08:35):
I still love it to this day. When you signed with the Vikings,
you had a post that was aMichael Scott quote. Oh yeah, and
I still love it to this day. I have no idea how high I
can fly, right, Yeah, office is incredible. Actually, on the
way over here, I was listeningto a like a podcast thing and it
was office trivia. I didn't doas well as I thought I would,
But oh really, Yeah, wereyou upset with yourself? You're like,
(08:56):
yeah, there's a couple I shouldhave known talking about this. You know,
Harrison's Playmakers is one of the coolestthings ever. And what I love
about it is not only its message, but also the fact that you utilize
it in communities that really have madea big impact in your life, from
(09:16):
Omaha to Buffalo to here in theTwin Cities. Tell us a little bit
about that. Yeah, So myfoundation, you know, we've been rolling
for my whole career, even whenI was back in college. But Harrison's
Playmakers works with individuals with developmental differencesand special needs, and we just try
to provide really any opportunity we canto encourage and to support and to instill
the values of paying it forward intoany community that we can. And we're
(09:39):
very unbiased. I say that myheart is, you know, has a
lot of love to give, andso we have Harrison's Playmakers who are individuals
with down syndrome, with autism. We have visually impaired playmakers, we have
individuals who have spining, the bifidacancer survivors. There's so much love to
go around and it's been really remarkableto see the growth of it. And
we're completely volunt to your base, right, Like, I run the thing
(10:01):
myself. We don't pay a personlike this is what I do. If
I'm not doing football, I'm watchingfilm. This is what I'm doing.
You joked about marriage is probably thething that comes up the most is how
much how much time that takes fromfrom our relationship. But she knows it's
such a big part of what Iwhat I do, and who I am.
And I'm only gonna be in thisposition for however many years that God
(10:22):
allows me to. And you wantto make the biggest impact you can while
you're here. You spoke to theU of M wrestling team. Yeah,
okay, So what kind of messagingdo you give out? Because I know
that's a background for you, right, Yeah, man, I love wrestling.
Yeah, and so I mean, what kind of message do you throw
out to a wrestling team? Yeah? I think that what I explained to
them was a little bit about teamworkand how hard in my time when I
(10:43):
was a wrestler younger, I didn'tsee the team part of that sport,
and I think that's why I lostmy passion with it. Compared to football.
You know, I need eleven playersall together firing on a cylinder to
make a play happen, and inwrestling, I didn't. And I love
that. And my favorite plays infootball are not plays I've made. They're
celebrating teammates, plays like fricking HarrisonSmith, Well, he just went and
(11:03):
did for us. That's a greatmemory off for the rest of my life.
I didn't have that wrestling because Ithought of it so individualized. And
then I also talked about the tradeoff between like people who are kind of
comfortable being mediocre versus people who arereally, really hard working, and that
tension can really rip apart a team. If you have a guy who's really,
you know, trying to always getevery single ounce out of himself to
(11:24):
become better, and he got aguy across from who might be better than
him, right, more talent, and he's not working as hard, it
could be truculent for a team. And so I spoke on those truck you
went very nicely played. It wasreally good. I'm gonna google it when
we go to the break. Ithink it's right. But here's the thing
is that now you wrestled, you'vealready referenced Stone Cold, you get dressed
(11:45):
up as him, So I mean, I know it's gonna be a while
down the road. I think withthe compliment, with the beard and everything,
you're just trying to see me ina single. Would you would?
Would you? Okay there, you'renot wrong, You're very truculent. I
think I'm using it right. Butno, ways, that's something you would
ever think about down the road?Is like after the NFL career? Uh?
(12:05):
Yeah, I would, I would? I would? You already got
the nickname, I feel it out. Yeah for sure. And I told
people for a long time if myfootball career ended at a time where my
body was still healthy enough, itmight be ignorant to say, but I
would. I would pursue wrestling againand see if I still got it all
right. That's awesome. By theway, Would you like to hear Paul
Allen and one of the greatest callsso far this season with the Minnesota Vikings,
(12:28):
Brett Blakemore hit it and now JohnnyHecker's in the game to pond.
Now, gotta be careful with JohnnyPecker. Johnny all right, three two,
you gotta be all right. Threetwo. You gotta be careful with
Johnny Hecker because he likes to pass. I don't know how I didn't hear
about this till right now. Man. Yeah, we we have not played
(12:50):
it at all on KFA N orThe Power D the Morning Show. No,
not at all have we played that. No, No, we would
never do that with Johnny Pecker. You can join Pa at the Monte Cello
Buffalo Wild Wings this Friday from nineuntil noon Friday Football Feast presented by COR's
Light and enjoy food and drink specialsand a chance to win biking Stickens and
(13:11):
Moore. Visit Vikings dot com slashbww for full schedule and details. More
coming up. By the way,Vikings Country, ladies and gentlemen, Harrison
Phillips is our guests. We're hereat Jimmy's and Badness Heights on the Fan.
It's time for Vikings Country, broughtto you by Miller Lyte. Now
(13:31):
here's your host of Vikings Country fromKfan and the Vikings radio network muss about
the play Active rolls out for theright pump fire cod touchdown Juffson Jefferson.
It is the second touchdown this seasonfor JK ten prone by countings and ten
(13:54):
six to Carolina. That's a comedyclass. Takes a snap. Buyers to
be in zoned to Jefferson. Theysingled JJ, and they paid. Here
(14:18):
we go ready, yep, allright, hot, welcome back Vikings gun
trade with Miller Light. We're hereat Jimmy's and Badness Heights again. I
must Here's and Phillips is hanging outwith us here number ninety seven for your
Minnesota Vikings. How about that JJ? Man? I mean, were all
that you're talking about, like whenyou're watching teammates and they're having just unbelievable
(14:41):
things happening, and that they're creatingjustin Jefferson. We already knew he was
ridiculous, but man, is heoff to a ridiculous start here in twenty
twenty three? Yeah, I mean, best wide receiver in the National Football
League bar none. But I thinkyou guys all know that the whole world's
kind of starting to know that nowwhat I can't talk enough about is the
type of person he is. It'sincredible to see a superstar top you know,
(15:03):
m v P type player and andhe doesn't even like know it yet
based on you know, how howhe candles himself and everything. Yeah,
yeah, high character kid, respectful. I can't say enough positive things about
him. It's he's a really specialteammate before we start going into the five
typical stupid Vikings country questions. Yes, Patrick Mahomes, I mean, this
(15:24):
is a defensive nightmare where some ofthe times, and sometimes most of the
times, a broken play is thebest play that they have for the Chiefs.
Defending a guy like that on thedefensive line. How how difficult can
that be, especially when they havea pretty good run game too. Yeah,
one hundred percent. I think youknow, he's a superstar, Kelsey
(15:46):
superstar. They have a ton ofgreat players all across their their offense and
their defense. You know, Iknow from past experience, unfortunately, how
how good and how quick they canthey can They can do things, you
know, the thirteen second game whenI was in Buffalo, and yeah,
we have a tall task in frontof us, but man, are we
eager and excited for that opportunity? You know, it's still early, so
(16:08):
I've just been watching the first couplegames of film myself. We'll go in
tomorrow and really start our due diligence. But yeah, it's it's so fun.
But again, the competitor and allof us. You want to play
the best, you want to beatthe best, you know, So it's
exciting. As a DT, doyou watch any stuff like if it's not
(16:29):
your game, you're watching it happensbeyond TV, and your wife's upset because
you're working on the foundation stuff notpaying attention to her. But Chris Jones,
Yeah, wow, I mean whatthis guy is He can turn a
game around anytime it seems like hewants. Yeah, I think what actually
caught me most impressive when I wasjust watching their game the other night was
the success he was having lined upat different positions across the defensive line,
(16:52):
Like he has a d tackle, but he was getting sack over it end.
Sometimes he'll put him out of nose. Sometimes they put him at three.
And I mean, since I enteredthe league, he's been a hell
whole name and he's been doing itfor a long time. And you know,
I'll definitely be you know, Ilike to watch the trenches when I
do have a spare moment in thegame. So I'll love to see how
our guys block him up. Parisand Phillips is here with us five typically
(17:14):
stupid Vikings country questions. Yeah, all right, Jimmy Butler, Jimmy Buckets.
Are you a basketball fan? Yeah? I like the playoffs, the
playoffs lot, yeah, anything anysporting event at all. It could playoffs
pickups sticks with my butt cheeks andI'd be like, yeah, I'm watching
that, watch that one. Oh, come on, you would? Okay,
So Jimmy Butler, he's just pulledthat out. I got a lot
(17:37):
of time on my hands. Alright, he's played for the Wolves, but
nonetheless he is now he's going tobe a country artist. He's coming out
with a country album. Are youmusically inclined at all? And would you
come out with any kind of musicunless it was for charity? Probably not.
So you're saying, maybe a Christmasthing, you know, my playmakers
(18:00):
or something, but probably not.Probably not. Uh. Here's the second
one. A woman is suing WaltDisney World after one of the water slides
gave her such a bad weggie shehad to be hospitalized and needed surgery.
That's actually terrible. You can't sayit with a smile on your face,
but I feel for that woman ifthat's real. Yeah, yeah, ri
(18:22):
swim funks were her breaks. Imean, that's yeah. I hope her
she's okay and our family's okay.Do you have siblings? I have a
sister. Yes, Oh, youhave a sister, okay, because I
have older siblings and so a weggieI know a little something about, especially
the atomic weggie where they take thewaistband and put it over your head.
It didn't require surgery, so no, I made it through. Thanks for
(18:44):
asking. That's a headliner. Yesterdaywas National Name your Card Day. What
was your first car? And didyou name cars when you are growing up?
I feel like I did my firstone. I can't. I can't
remember her name. There was afemale. Yeah, she was like a
ninety eight Tahoe with about two twentyfive on her. Yeah, duct tape,
(19:06):
the door shut type thing. No, no third wheels, seats,
no third row seats. They werejust not there. You didn't drive over
puddles because your feet might get wet. No, but it made it.
It made it all the way toStanford. Twenty six hour driving it got
there. It's of course October. We've already talked about, you know,
(19:26):
maybe some Halloween ideas for your costumesand stuff like that. Are you into
like scary movies and who is themost terrifying that you remember, like still
almost funds your dream as far aslike a movie goes. Yeah. I
love scary movies, A big fanof them. More on scary movies that
could be real versus like, ohyeah, sir, the devile stuff.
Yeah yeah, But I remember growingup the movie The Ring was a one
(19:49):
that got me because I had seenit when I was young young I'm talking
like six six years old or something, and that's static. That's I know
that static screen always what happened whenI was like switching the TV on or
going to a game or some sort, and that one that one's scared of
shit out. So my last oneis for you croctober fests. Are you
(20:10):
interested at all? Every year,my wife and I we throw a croctober
fest. We have neighbors and friendsand stuff like that. You take a
crockpot, everyone brings one over tothe house. You wear stretchy pants,
and then you have cocktails and thenyou just absolutely feast. It sounds like
an old man's fraternity party or something. But I won't be participating this year.
(20:30):
What I don't know. I'm absolutelyshocked by that. I can't believe
it. All Right, big matchupcoming up here? What is your direct
matchup this weekend that you're most watching? And I know you already said you
gotta get in watch a little morefilm and stuff like that. But that
offensive line, especially with the guardplaying center for the Chiefs, you know,
what's that matchup look like for you? Yeah? You know, I'll
(20:52):
have to wait till we kind ofsee what our scheme is and how we're
all aligned and stuff. But Ithink that that group does because there's some
veteran leaders up there. Every theyJoe's been doing it for a long time,
and I think they're coached really well. They're how well they're gelled together
is more of the true test. And so with some movement around or whatever
and and the but I think theirfive is up there for one that you
know, topped in the league, and we're definitely excited for the tall task
(21:17):
ahead of us. Yeah, it'sgonna be a big one and at home,
which you gotta love being back athome. Yeah is it? I
mean, what is that experience likethat? That opening for Vikings games is
so ridiculous. There's no way nearI could be neither near the food of
food. I'm sorry that crack verfest. But the field because well look at
me, but man, just sittingin that stadium. I wish, I
(21:37):
wish I could replay my first Vikingshome game over and over again. That's
that experience is incredible. Yeah, they yeah, oh you had it back?
Was the fire I'm talking abou dragoncoming out of the fire. Yeah,
the fire was still coming out ofthe dragon. Because that's huge.
Yeah, that was a big Thensomebody had a going reckon Harrison Phillips.
Ladies and gentlemen hair Vikings Country withMiller Lites. Next week we're gonna be
(22:03):

out where we're gonna be. Andif you're heading to the game at us

I appreciate it right here on ky, have a great night
