Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for Vikings Country, brought to you by Miller Lyte.
Now here's your host of Vikings Country from KFAN and
the Vikings Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Must Addison white right, Jefferson plot left, Brandon Powell outside
of him, Josh Oliver in motions of the right. Darnald
from the shotgun. Another good pocket to the end zone,
touch down. Welcome back, Jordan Addison. Come, Minnesota. Vikings have
a six zero lead. Sam Darnald has thrown nine touchdowns
(00:33):
this year, and that's the first for Jordan Addison. It
clicks from twenty nine. Darnald back to pass, looks right
seed nothing rose left.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Punt to dun.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Josh Oliver with his first touchdown this season. And the
Pikings have a thirteen zero lead over the two and
one Tackers. And we're still in the first quarter. First
and goal from the fourteen. Darnald out of the shotgun,
puts Jefferson in motions of the right. He'll go that
way to the end zone. Pot you kidding me with
(01:05):
that cat? Josn Jefferson with a fourteen yard touchdown grab
and the Minnesota Vikings lead the Green Bay Packers at
lambeau Field twenty devens zero with five twenty eight to
go in the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
How palffim, Hollywood, Minnesota? How are we doing? Welcome to
Vikings Country. I'm Muss and Vikings Country with Millerlighte, the
official beer sponsor of your Minnesota Vikings. We had a
bunch of purple fans that are hanging out here. I
absolutely love it. Hollywood Sports Complex here just outside of Watertown. Yes,
(01:43):
there is a Hollywood Minnesota. And because of that we
were able to book a really big guest. And Bryan
McKinny is with us, right hey. He saw Hollywood and said, oh, yeah,
I guess I.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Gotta be there.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I gotta make that one. I gotta make that How
are you, buddy?
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Pretty good?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Good, good good. I'm just gonna start this off and
make it weird. I already told you the show is stupid.
You smell delightful.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Oh, thank you, you really do.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Honestly, I kept like every once in a while I've
been wafting over like again, like try to like sneak
around you quick so that way it goes blows my way.
I love it. What are you wearing?
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Thank you?
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Very nice and even shared birthday gift not everybody shares.
You know, when you got your own scent there, you
still like to chair it with everybody. So I appreciate that.
It makes me feel really good. All right, let's get
it get it started here, because this man is a
super Bowl champion pro bowler. Where do you keep the
(02:43):
super Bowl? Right?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:45):
In the house?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
But like where is it just like in a weird
drawer or do you actually like.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
You have like a case where like I have like
a bunch of like trophies and things like that.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Sure, sure, everything from everything from high school to college to.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Yeah, the poor and things in this one case.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Sure, Okay, that's cool. You ever bring it out? When
do you have to run?
Speaker 5 (03:06):
If I go to a super Bowl event something like that,
as a conversational piece, I wear.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yeah one National champion two. You gotta have that ring.
Ok I'm in ranking. There's so many things that don't
fit that in my club, justful. I gotta really work
on that. So here picked seventh overall here with the
Minnesota Vikings, and we absolutely love that you playing with
(03:33):
the bikes. We're gonna get into maybe that two thousand
and nine season and you know, make Ben Lieber get
all panicky again, but you.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Were born in Woodbury, Woodbury, New Jersey. Yes, yes, it
is a Woodbury here. So I realized that when I
got here.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
So now tell us about Woodbury, New Jersey. Is that
like kind of word like the Boom Club is We
saw Okay.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Town in Jersey, South Jersey, right across the bridge from Philadelphia,
like fifteen minutes away from Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Why is it the New Jersey only like the stuff
that comes out of TV shows and movies, that's the
part we get to see about New Jersey. But it's
actually kind of a pretty state, right, It's nice.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
It's nice, all went a small town glowing because I
don't know, just living to Miami now is like a
big difference.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Hey, speaking of the Miami thing, I got to ask
you because I've never felt older in my life, because
you know, with everything that has been going on here
in the last couple of weeks, I honestly I was like,
I got up and I purposely, by choice, I turned
on the Weather Channel, and I was like, what is
happening in my life? How did I get this old
that I chose to watch the Weather Channel? And now
(04:47):
I'm following Milton right, And I was like Hey, what's
going up with Milt? Doesn't it? Because anybody heard from Milt.
Maybe Helene knows what built's I felt so old? Everything
good where you are.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
You were in Miami, so yeah, it kind of went
past you start out in the golf, so it kind
of hit more like Tampa, so central Florida.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
So Miami was actually good.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah yeah, so everything and family and everybody else and
stuff like that all good.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
That's that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
How about this? So you played college? I love this?
Is it a.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Lackawana Laana Junior College in scranm Pennsylvania.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
It's Scrinton, Yeah, the Scranton.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
The Scranton with the Office? You know, yes, ye ye.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
That's that's so so like when you would are you
an Office fan?
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Did you watch The Office? I don't follow it a lot, but.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Okay, because like you know, even the open, they do
a bunch of shots that are right there, yea in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
That's that's so cool. I've already told this joke before,
but I still like it because I think Sam Darnold,
you know, we're getting so close to Halloween. I think
that he is just a pair of glasses, a mustard,
button down, short sleeve dress shirt and a tie. He
(05:52):
could go as Dwight shroops. I just no one else
sees that.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Okay, maybe nobody left.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Okay, fine, he's playing, well, make fun of the guy, Okay, whatever.
So NFL Pro Super Bowl champ we've covered that. This
is kind of cool because you are a public speaker,
and that's partly the reason why you are here in
town speaking with the with the team.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
So yesterday myself and Tommy Harris and a therapist we
spoke to the team on mental health and how it
was okay to open up and speak about you know,
situation you're going through so you don't bottle them up.
And then you know a disaster can happen, so we
try to prevent it now. So Kevin O'Connell was basically
spearheading there. Him, Jasper Brinkley, and Les Pico kind of
(06:38):
spearheaded this whole idea of having us come in and
you know, they wanted, you know, guys who played in
the league as well to be a part of it.
And I had a therapist friend of mine come in
and and to be like the you know, the the
technical part. Sure, and it was it was actually great.
The guys were you know, I didn't know how because
you know, I'm a different generation. You know, I'm my
(06:59):
four he's there in the twenties, so I didn't know
how to receive it. But they were very very interactive
and opening up and sharing things because we like you know,
went out to the artists and asked questions and they
gave answers and everything.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
So it was really good. It was a good bonding moment.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
That's very very cool. And then also, is this right
your three time Grammy nominated producer.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yeah, So in two thousand and nine, I had put
out an artist in a group who was a group
called Pleasure because the artist name is Pleasure pe but
he came from a group called Pretty. Ricky did his
project in two thousand and nine, I got nominated for
three Grammys, but that same year we were in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Oh so I couldn't go to.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
The Grammys, right right, right? What got you? Well? I mean,
what's the background there to get you into music?
Speaker 4 (07:42):
I found him. He was in the situation.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
I was in the music already, and now I was
able to have an opportunity to work with him as
a solo artist. And then we was able to put
together a great body of work where the Grammys decided
to recognize us with three nominations.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
That's awesome, man.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Yeah, but a lot of people don't know that. Yeah
call it mac Fat because they call me to be Mac.
So it's a mac fat.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
And you're in the College Hall.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
College Football Hall of Fame. I went in last December. Yeah,
I didn't even know that.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
You co claps of free thank you.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
I wasn't even really aware of that enduring my time
playing that there was even a College Hope Futball Hall
of Fame. I didn't ever hear anybody talk about it.
But yeah, very thankful to be a part of that class.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Brian McKinney is our guest here in Vikings Country with
Miller Lte And I got to tell you the first
time that I ever met Brian, I was sitting there
in our K one O two Broad Studio and Tom
west our buddy Westy, he brought you up. You were
gonna do something on the fan and uh he knocks
on the door first and he goes, hey, you want
to meet Brian McKinnon. I like, yeah, I do, And
all of a sudden, Ryan turns around the corner and
(08:47):
wore the door. There was no light appearing from the
other side of the doorway. Is just a massive, massive, man,
my god, how do you buy clothes?
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Luckily there's a couple to call one Bone, so they
make clothes for like being and tall guys. So this
is one of their shirts. But normally a lot of
things I order. I can't go to the mall like
everybody else. It's like a lot of ordering nowadays.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
The poor person at the store if you walk like,
we don't have anything, and I don't want to tell them.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
There's like select stories I can go to, but it's
not not much.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
You reference to Kevin O'Connell and being a part of
the bringing you guys in and speaking with the team.
How about Kevin O'Connell and Brian Flores. Uh, you're hard
pressed in the rest of the league, in the NFL
to find such fine coaches. As a head coach offensive
coordinator in DC, I mean there's maybe, I mean Andy
(09:43):
Reid sl I mean might be in that.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
I think what Kevin O'Connell's doing great is being able
to relate with the with the players. A lot of
coaches don't know how to, but he's able to, and
by them like liking him so much, they're gonna play
harder for him, and they look like they're having fun,
And that's the most important thing is going out there
and having fun. I feel like like we're gonna talk
about two thousand and seasons. I feel like that was
(10:08):
the most fun we had as a team, you know.
So it's all about having fun and enjoying it. So
it doesn't feel like work anymore, you know what I mean.
You're out there really playing.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
How about the NFC North. The only division in the
NFL currently that has every single team in that division
sitting at above five hundred are the Vikings sitting at five?
Speaker 5 (10:28):
And oh right, that's that's that's really great because yeah,
I feel like they put the Vikings as an underdog
coming into the season because I do a Vikings podcast
called Believe in Vikings, so we do it weekly with
myself and Wibshaw. So I followed the team a lot
and I seen like coming into the season they had
it's at the bottom, yeah for sure, and we're at
(10:49):
the top now. So hopefully we just you know, we
may remain at the top. But they're playing really well.
Or the jailing together. The coaches know when the pool
back to let guys rest and everything like that. So
I just want to keep that trend going.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
As a left tackle yourself, and you're watching what Brian
Flores does to especially on the edges, and how he
designs his defenses, what is something that you've noticed that
you're like, damn that I would not want to go
up against that.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
The defense is very tricky, but they're playing very aggressive
and they're making a lot of plays. You know, overall
that's putting the offense in good position. So I'm very
happy with the defense right now because you know, one year,
like the office is doing great and defenses and the defense,
but now everything's kind of coming together.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, Christian Darisaw, can you break down what you see
and what you like about his game and that it's
kind of weird we noticed this early on this season,
is that he's kind of got that stance with his
leg out just a little bit kind of behind you
of a Randall McDaniel kind of looking stance there. It's
a little different, but you know, kind of break down
(11:52):
what you see in Dearris.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
I think he's a complete player. I've talked with him
a few times. I've seen him actually yesterday as well
as the right tackle. Yeah, I feel like he's a
pretty complete player and it's still like looking to be
on the rise, like he's still growing, still getting better.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Brian McKinney Ladies and Gentlemen is our guest here at

Country right here on the Fan.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
It's time for Vikings Country, brought to you by Miller Lte.
Now here's your host of Vikings Country from Kfan and
the Vikings Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Must Snap goes to Love.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Here comes Cashman on the Bullets on topner stepped in
by Stack Griffin near side of the twenty fifteen to
ten gets to the five and at first done gold Vikings.
They got Wick's nearside on Myra Murphy Junior. I's gonna
showing up this time, Byron Murphy.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Juniors said no.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
He intercepted Jordan Love with six thirteen to go in
the game.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
He's like, go ahead and keep kicking on me. I'm
gonna get you one.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Time, and that time he got him was a big one.
Here comes the newest biggest kick in Will Riker's life,
I mean his professional life. He doesn't have a walk
off winner. He's a rookie from Alabama who hit from
fifty eight versus Houston and he's five to five on
field goals this year. This is a thirty three yard
(13:51):
try between the Hashbars kicked the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
To a nine point league snap spot. Riker kick up
and it's good. Yes, Thick to the Thick who welcome
back once again, ladies and gentlemen. We're here Hollywood Sports Complex.
It's Vikings Country with Miller Lite. Grant McKinney is my
guest here and we just got a ton of Vikings fans.
(14:17):
It's so awesome. By the way, Unreal is back with
their limited edition Vikings drop head to unreel dot com
for more details. Let's talk about, as we kind of
tease this a little bit, the two thousand and nine
Minnesota Vikings farv Hutch Ad, Jared Allen, Ben Lieber, I mean,
(14:37):
the Williams wall he Farewell. I mean, it was just
an incredible team, including yourself. Man, how scared were you
of Hutch?
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Like everybody else is my neighbor, so we played next
to each other. Now, it was a great team, especially
like on defense.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Yeah, I mean all over like.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Shanko, you had to receive the Sydney Rice, you had
Asian in the back, backfield.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
It's like it was. It was just a great team.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
The only person we were missing that season was probably Burk,
who could have probably helped put it over the edge.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Oh sure, sure, you bring up Shanko. Yeah, never stand
next to them in the show. You go over there.
I'll just shower at home.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Man.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
That's all good. If you look at what's going on
with the Minnesota Vikings year this year and be taking
on the lines a very good team obviously five and
h taking on four and one like you said early
on in the season, no one really said that this
would this would be this big of a game. It's
going to be massive coming up.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Oh, it definitely is.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
And you know the Vikings are gonna be at home,
so you definitely need the fans to be out there
to support.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Screaming on the top of your lungs, be.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
A distraction, be the thirteen man on the field when
they're on defense, and you know a lot of players
to feel that energy because that really helps. It makes
you a big difference when the fans are into it
and they know, like this game is a big game.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
All right, you ready for the five typically stupid Vikings
country question. We go number one. Japan just snagged the
world's record for the most people pointing up to the
sky at once. I didn't know that you could get
this particular record. It happened on Sunday. By the way,
the number to beat is five oh seven. Doesn't seem
like that's a big number at all. Have you ever
tried to break a world record? No, No, no interest
(16:21):
in it at all.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
I didn't think about it.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
No, Okay, I once tried and we were going to
throw a football. See how long we could throw a
football back and forth, just me and my buddy, and
we were out there for about twenty three hours. And
that's why only when my mom came out and went,
did you call Guinness or anything? Yeah? Oh no, oh no,
we didn't know that.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Oh yeah, absolutely, When did you have to use the bathroom?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Well, just like Nascar? Okay, sometimes turn number one is
not so bad. Letter fly all right, So here's the
second one here. Okay. So there's this British professor and
he says that there's going to be proof and it's
going to be coming out soon that there actually is
(17:08):
an alien civilization that is in our galaxy, and they
believe that it will actually be unveiled, probably right around
when we have our US election. Do you believe in aliens?
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Because we've been looking for aliens for so long? How
we found them? I feel like anything they're in the ocean.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
There's some scary stuff in them.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
I feel like they're coming to shore closer now too,
like sharks and everything. A lot of things in that
ocean we haven't been able to really see because we
can't go.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
But so deep?
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Are you weary of living where you live in Miami?
And then the ocean.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
No, a lot of sharks have been coming the short
well that's why I said that in Miami, but.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
The pool.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Yes, they're discovering the world as well.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Pickleball. This is a number three pickleball QBC, known for,
you know, selling stuff late at night and all that.
Now they've they've they've purchase the rights literally for USA pickleball,
and they're gonna start showing and covering pickleball. Are you
a pick a ball player? You live in Mouth? Retired?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
I played tennis, but I played pickleball smaller court and
it's it's like a wiffleball. Yeah, so it's a little
slower game, but I've played.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I've played a few times.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
All right, here's number four of our five typically stupid
vikings country questions. Uh. The most searched Halloween costume this year,
according to Google, is the shrunken head Bob from Beetlejuice.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Beetlejuice, that's crazy, But how do you think somebody.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Said, well, yeah, I guess you know, what's the costume
actually kind of look like that kind of weird. That's
a good point. I didn't think of you guys, especially
when we're talking about twenty nineteen. You guys were really
big into Halloween and the Halloween.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
We have Halloween parties.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and you had to bring your game.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
You did because, I mean it was like a competition basically.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
So yeah, did you like your I mean, did you
grow up loving Halloween? Are you freaked out about it?
Speaker 4 (19:05):
Or I didn't mind Halloween? I didn't mind dressing up?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah I have.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
I'm gonna show you guys a picture of my my
favorite Halloween costume.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Oh yeah, nice, nice?
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
What it was like when you were a little kid?
What was the one that you always wanted to be
but never got?
Speaker 1 (19:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
I think I probably was what they took care of you,
all right, cocco?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
All right?
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Last one? Candy corn brought worst.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Candy corn brought worst?
Speaker 3 (19:30):
You heard correct a Noka Meats and Sausage here in Minnesota.
They had it last year. They're bringing it back. Candy
corn rats. What's your stance on Kemp?
Speaker 5 (19:40):
I don't even like candy corn. I'm about to say
this is like the worst Halloween candy ever.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
You like candy corn?
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Absolutely, It's glassy and delicious. You had peanuts really really good.
You wouldn't try that in the Brock.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
No, that doesn't even go together.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
All right, Okay, let's talk a little bit more about
this game that's coming up here and just the way
the Minnesota Vikings have been playing this year. We've talked
about the defense and what they do, but then with
Kevin O'Connell, what they've been able to do. You know,
t J. Hockinson probably won't be playing this weekend, but
the Aaron J.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
For Detroit, he's out. So that's kind of like, you know,
gooford off in the line.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Did you watch that at all? And luckily it's one
of the first ones that I've seen that they didn't
show it over it over again, thank goodness. So you've
never had a huge injury like.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Not like that now, No, So that's that's going to
be a big blow for them because that was like
their you know, mainstack.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Seven and a half sacks, seventeen quarterback hits. Yeah, yeah,
he's had a pretty good year thus far. But then
you look at that offensive line for the Minnesota Vikings.
In totality, we already talked about our ends, but in totality,
actually they've played really really well. You can tell that
they are definitely a unit that has been together, and
that's that whole thing.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
You know what I always say here In the past,
they would if one person got injured, like if you
go back like three years ago, somebody got injured, they
would like reshuffle the whole line instead of just plugging
somebody back in the new space. But now these guys
have been together, playing well together, and they kind of
know how each other play, So that's it's a lot better,
like more cohesive for those guys.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yeah, all right, So you got any good locker room
stories from back when you guys were playing together A bunch.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Of one time we were like the running backs always
used to try to like wrestle or fight with the
offensive linemen. Of course I'm the main person that they
always wanted to wrestle with. And we were in between
meetings were supposed to be meetings. I think I left
out of my meeting. He used the bathroom and went
to the locker, and I had to go past the
running backs room, and then all of a sudden, I
(21:48):
don't know what they said or they went't break, but
then they came out and they like try to just
like jump me in the locker, and then a couple
of the guys came out and then ap and tahee,
ty He was like fo They bumped heads and ty
he I swelled up and he can play in the game.
We got in trouble for a horse playing in the
(22:09):
locker room. They bumped heads and then I'll tell you
couldn't put the hume on his eyes swelled up and
then he can play in the game.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
