(00:00):
It's another episode of the Will JustAgree to Disagree podcast? Telly Fox,
I Am and joining us. Ohmy gosh, I love him so much.
Grammy Award winner chicagoan all around goodguy, multi talented, so humble
and cool, the great Jonathan mcrenold. What's up. Happy to have you

(00:23):
back, man. You know,it's always honored to be here. It's
like a brother of fresh air.On my day, it'll be home Chicago.
You know, it's always cool. It's always weird and different, but
you know, but it's also familiar. You know. It's just you know,
it's like, Okay, this iswho I am. I forgot I
see pieces of me and everybody atme. I'm like, oh, that's
why I do that. Yeah, that's good to you, Chicago. That's

(00:47):
good stuff. Okay, we don'tget right into it because when I tell
you, I'm so excited for allof your achievements and accomplishments. I'll tell
you this all the time over theyears. You've been doing this for a
minute, but bro, you areup for a Grammy this weekend. Yeah,
yeah, so huge, thank you. Yeah, you know it feels
good because like, all right,so I've talked to a lot of my

(01:08):
friends, even even like a legendlike Kirk or anybody like that, Stevie.
After every album you are worried thatyou'll not be able to do that
again. So like, so,you know, we got a Grammy before,
but like to do this this albumon tour, recording it on the
RV, all that other stuff pullingit out of me, Like ah for

(01:32):
that to get a Grammy, likeit feels good, like, you know,
to keep going and to keep gettingthat recognition that love, that's what's
up man. Yeah, It's almostlike it kind of makes it all worth
it in a sense. It justfeels like it feels like it feels like
I'm not terrible yet. It feelslike i ain't fall off the cliff yet.
That's what it feels like. It'slike, oh, okay for y'all,

(01:52):
like cool, Yeah, that's reallywhat it feels like. So so
yeah, I think this year I'mgonna really enjoy it, like you know,
the monkeys off my back. We'vewon one, and I just get
to go and you know, enjoythe fact that I'm one of these guys,
one of these that feel like becauseyou already have one, does the
feeling change like Oh, I'm good. I can coast a little bit.

(02:15):
Or are you all like? Man, I need to get another one,
and then another one and then anotherone, you know what I mean?
All right? Well, so Ijust bought a new place, and you
know I have you know, inmy office, I have a few awards.
I only have. So I've gottenlike fourteen stellars and a whole bunch
of doves. Who fourteen? No, no, no, But I only

(02:35):
have one in my possession. Ionly have one in my possession, okay,
And so I just put like thatone statue. And then I have
like some little numbers that I spraypainted gold times fourteen. That's what it
says, one stellar times fourteen, one dove times four because that's all I
got. I would love to beable to put that grammy on there.

(02:57):
But when I first got the grammy, I sent it to my mother,
who's in the studio today. Yes, and she won't give me my grammy.
I visited it a house I visited. I took a picture with it
just but and so I said, can I you know I have a new
house. It'd be nice to beable to put the grammy up here.

(03:19):
She said, okay, Cool, just win another one. So if I
could win one this year, thatwould be awesome because that would be my
first grand one. No, thisone, I have to She already promised
me that I'll be able to keepone and I'll actually be able to have
one, so I hope. So. Well, man, that is the
epitome of music greatness, a Grammy. So we already know you're gonna bring

(03:40):
that home, man, And ifI don't, just don't don't be mad
at me. But I'm doing mybest, man clear to represent you know,
Chicago and the Church. Well man, you're not only made for Grammy,
but you also now nominated for apeople as yeahs, dope. It's
just good man to be you know, recognized. And I mean you gotta

(04:01):
understand you about y'all been with mefor a decade, you know, so
y'all know when we were just puttingbricks on this non existent house. So
you know, to see other peoplein different places, different you know,
whether it's a very musical community likethe Grammys or a very cultural community like
the Image Awards. To be seenand recognized in both, it's really dope,
man, I love it for you. So the album My Truth,

(04:24):
Yeah, you Know Your World oneof my favorite songs ever. And I'm
not just saying that because you're sittinghere next to me. I love that
song. When I put it on, it's just instant smile, instant happiness.
No matter what I'm going through, that song loives me think. I
really really loved that song. Talkabout the album, it's growth what you're
doing next with the music. Yeah, so you know that whole My Truth

(04:46):
album, that's just where I wasin my life, and I kind of
still am there, you know, just stripping back down to the basics,
man, like you know you've Idon't know if I did it too quickly.
I don't know if the public kindof pressures it, just the life
pressures it. You just add moreand more weight to stuff, you know,
more titles, more wards, moreresponsibility, more followers, and at

(05:06):
some point you have to strip thatback down and go back to all right,
but I'm just the son of God, right, Like I'm just a
child of God right seriously, Likeall this stuff is too heavy, man,
you know, for all the fathersand the mothers out there that are
weighed down by that responsibility. Sometimesyou have to tap into that little source
of but wait, before all ofthis, I'm also just a child of

(05:30):
God and so that's just where Iwas. And so your world. I'm
glad you feel lighter when it playsbecause you know it's supposed to like heyo,
this is his world, because hey, man, you know, because
after all this stuff that we do, we start acting like it's our world,
you know, and that comes withrights, but it comes with a
lot of responsibilities for you to createthis world. If it's just God's world

(05:53):
and you're living in it, He'llfigure it out, you know. As
I said, man, his willis his bill. Yeah, and it's
kind of full circle because last timeyou were here with us is when that
album was about to drop or theyjust dropped or something. So I love
it. I want to ask youbecause I think it was just yesterday you
posted a post on IG all theseartists you work with, from the greats

(06:15):
Kirk Common, Travis Green. Thelist goes on crazy crazy, who's someone
you haven't worked with yet that youwant to work with. There's a lot
of people, bro, there's alot of people, man like, So
yeah, it's kind of crazy thatlist. I was surprised by it,
but also I was surprised By whowas not on that list. Like I
was like, I ain't work withImbert. You know what I'm saying.

(06:36):
I don't worked with yet, youknow what I'm saying. Yeah, you
know what I'm saying. I don'tunderstand you know what I'm saying. Me
Cra looked about like the same personanyway, He's just three inch just taller,
and so you know, like, you know, I would love to
work with Stevie. That's my guy, John Mayer never met him before,

(06:56):
but I loved that. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. Uh,
you got Victory Boyd out there, you got Smorrow Joy me and tomorrow.
We're gonna do something soon. Though. You know, there's a lot of
people man, you know, there'sa lot of new cats that that that
would just it would be really anhonor, you know what I'm saying.
So I'm just really blessed man thatthat that that post. It almost meant

(07:18):
to me a little bit more thanthe Grammys. It's like, man,
we've really covered some grounds from CommonIndia to Toby Mack and Natalie Grant and
then back over to Kirk and tweet. Yeah. Man, it's just we
did this last time. We talkedto you and I said, do you

(07:38):
ever sit back and give yourself like, Yo, I'm doing it. I'm
proud of myself, probably not youfrom Chicago. We are proud of you
spite the Grammys on all that. When I saw that post and said,
Yo, you're doing it whether yeah, man, Like it was like a
road trip that I really found out. Like I just I was like,
let me just play the songs thatI remember that I kind of collab with

(07:59):
people, and I just kept going. I'm like, oh my goodness,
I've done a lot of stuff.I feel I feel uh violated. There's
so many pipnos playing, but uhno, it was. It was an
honor. Man. It's really dope, and uh my life is absolutely I
just left W g N and TomSkilling, you know, we're all honoring

(08:20):
him because he's retiring. You know, he's like the goat, you know,
meteorologist, and that's all I wantedto be growing up, was a
meteorologist. I had autograph pictures ofAndy Avalos and and Tom Skilling. Yeah
I had. I had and Andywas there too, and I you know,
I had like little posters of differentclouds. What a serious cloud is?

(08:41):
What a Cumula Nimbus Cloud is like, that's who I am on the
inside. So the fact that I'mliving this music life man the last,
but that's who I am. Andso the fact that I'm that I'm any
kind of musician or any kind ofthing at all, it's hilarious. But

(09:01):
the fact that I've gotten to doso much is even more like, WHOA
what life was our living? HaveI been living this whole time? So
it's dope, man, that's agood look. Getting ready for this tour?
Talk about this one Hallelujah tour.Who's on this thing? Tasha Cobbs,
Leonard Israel Houghton, Erica Camp.Yeah, it's gonna be awesome and

(09:22):
we're gonna be here I think Aprilfourth of the Auditorium Theater. It's gonna
be dope here in Chicago. Butyeah, man, it's gonna be an
amazing tour. You know, whenI first heard it, I was like,
that's a lot of different sounds,you know what I'm saying, that's
a lot you know, you gotworship, you got an acoustic worship,
and you got I know, That'swhat I'm saying. It took me a

(09:43):
second to be like, oh,wait, so we're gonna make We're gonna
somehow show what I think people kindof take for granted. And that's the
diversity in gospel. I think whenthey think gospel, they think of like
one little thing. Y'all talk aboutGod, and y'all do it in church.
And I'm like, well, no, some of us do it in
the club, and some of usgo on tour with with Leila or India

(10:07):
or or you know what I'm saying. And some of us, you know,
are doing it very traditionally and it'slike Cheerlie Caesar too, and then
other people, you know what I'msaying. So it's a lot of different
ways, different venues that we cando it. So the fact that we're
all coming together and creating out offive different Hallelujahs, one strong, potent,
diverse Hallelujah is really dope, man. So I'm excited about it.

(10:30):
That's gonna be good. Happy foryou. Man. What's next? If
you bring home this another grammy,if you bring home this na A C
P imag what is next? Fornow? You're putting pressure on me every
time you say that. I wasI had no pressure. I wouldn't even
worry. I didn't even worry aboutit. It's just it's just cool.
But you know what I'm saying now, you scared me, you know what
I'm saying, Say that again? What was the end of what was the

(10:52):
actual question? Because you lost? You know, you're always going to be
doing the music piece, like, yeah, do a movie soundtrack or you
want to start in a movie likewhat's next for Jonath? You know,
I did that one movie and Iactually enjoyed it and I actually wasn't as
bad as I thought I was gonnabe. So it'd be really awesome if
I could do it again, man, and just you know, keep keep

(11:13):
building that. I've had other opportunitiesto act, you know, I've been
doing, uh, like this musicalwith Anthony Brown, which is really dynamic,
man, uh and it's really dope. Yeah, and so I actually
enjoy acting a little bit, youknow what I'm saying, Like just a
little bit. And that's really dope. What y'all trying to say? That's
a thing. Oh yeah, Ican see that, you like. You
know, listen, I'm operating, operating on about two hours of sleep right

(11:39):
now. See y'all is making melaught. But anyway, but no,
there's working on a book. I'mactually close to finishing it. It's gonna
be really it's really an issue nearand dear to my heart. That's really
where I am right now in mylife. And that is as as I
was saying, learning how to stripthese titles, these responsibilities away and going
back to a place where you actuallycan be fed as a as a human.

(12:01):
So working on that book got alot of other stuff down the pipeline.
But I am I think the pressureevery time I go on the interview
is to have five things that I'mdoing this year and have five things that
are next. And honestly, Idon't know. I'm at a place where

(12:26):
I can not do anything and Ican pivot. I just finished my rookie
deal, you know, my rookierecord deal, and some I'm a free
agent again, so all of that. Man, I'm really you know,
deciding how I want to do this. I want to release a kids record,
a Christmas record. I want toI want to go crazy and and
and take some of the limits off. And so I'm excited. Bro,

(12:48):
It's gonna be something, and it'sgonna be good. And y'all be the
first to know. Czy before weget out of here. Man, what's
the final words for Chicago? Andespecially going into Grammy's Weekend? How's Jonathan
feeling? And man, you knowwhat it means the world to me when

(13:09):
you say stuff like Chicago's proud becauseyou know, growing up, man,
you know this is not a it'snot an easy city to impress. It's
not an easy city to get behindyou. I mean, we we love
you, but we love you ina very cautious way. You know what
I'm saying. It's like we livethe jury is constantly still out in Chicago,

(13:31):
so it means a lot, man, And you know, I just
want to say I love y'all andI really appreciate you know how you've shown
up. And I just pray thatWhitney Young, I pray Columbia, Moody,
south Side, southeast side. Ihope y'all are proud of your boy
and keep praying for me. JonathanMcReynolds two time Grammy Award winning Jonathan mcgreynolds

(13:58):
is a prop because it's happening.Yeah, I don't know about prophet.
