(00:00):

troubles immediate day and joining us nowis a blazer for Jeremy Grant. Jeremy,
I welcome to the show, andcongrats on the new deal man.
That's awesome. Thank you, thankyou, thank you, honor and bless
what's it like to get that kindof security? I mean, this is
a job obviously, people know fromthe outside there's not a lot of security
unless you get a deal like yougot. Uh. Definitely again, Uh,
(00:24):
just blessed to you know, beable to have the opportunity to to
to get the security, like yousaid. Uh. Thankful for you know,
Joe and Jody and and the organizationfor trusting in me. I'm curious
when you signed that, did yougo out and buy something? Uh?
When I signed that, did Igo out and buy something something cool?
(00:45):
You know? I got, Igot, I got my family a lot
of a lot of things. Youknow. I got a few cars,
uh for myself and cars for myfamily. So what's the favorite rig that
you have, the car that you'remost proud of. I gotta I gotta
Bentley. It's uh, it's it'sbeautiful. It's it's yeah, are you
scared to driving? No, No, not at all, not at all.
(01:07):
Uh driving pretty fast sometimes. Whatkind of car did the family yet
I got? Uh? I got, I got my partner Porsche. Uh,
I got I got Actually I gotmy brother better card than I got
uh mayback truck and I got myother brother Range. Yeah, so you
(01:36):
took good care of of course theytake a good care of me. So
you know, we were just talkingwith Matisse and he goes, Hey,
in the real world, I'm ayoung man, but now in basketball terms,
I'm like an old guy. Andfor you, now we were just
talking about this, only four guyson the roster who were here last year.
You're one of those guys included. So what's it like for you to
see all the new faces and alot of them are young, and they're
gonna come to you for advice. They want to know your take on the
(01:59):
NBA life and how to make thingshappen. Uh. It's it's an honor
to be able to get this farin the NBA, to be honest,
going on my tenth year in thein the league, So to be able
to super long, to be ableto share what I've learned, and you
(02:19):
know, in the last decade withthe new guys, it's important always having
you know, a mentor leader,h a vet, you know, to
be able to teach you and showyou the ropes, because no one really
teaches you or shows you. Butto have somebody who's been through it and
teach you, it's huge. SoI'm I'm taking that role very seriously.
(02:40):
Who did that for you? Ihad Elton Brand and Philly he helped me
a lot. Jason Richardson, Uh, he helped me as well. Those
were in Philly, and then uhwhen I got to Okay see Russ Russ
Westbrook. Uh he yeah, hetook me under his wing and it helped
me a lot. So all right, so with the team that's here,
what do you think about the additions? First off, with DeAndre Ayton,
(03:02):
you've competed against him. What doyou think he's going to bring to the
club. I think he's gonna bringa lot. I think, uh,
a lot of energy. Uh.He has great touch, great shoot and
touch H And I mean defensively,I mean I think he could do a
lot. I think he could doa lot. And I think it's you
know, it's been a while sinceI played with the you know somebody like
(03:24):
that. So I'm I'm extremely excitedto you know, see what he brings.
I think he has he has alot more to give to than than
he has the opportunity too in thepast. So I'm I'm excited about this.
Looks like with uh scoot here,it's gonna be a little more running
in faster pace, more up tempo. Do you like that? Definitely?
(03:46):
I definitely like that. Uh itplays to my advantages long athletic wing.
I like, I love to runto run the court, so playing at
that tempo is uh, it makesthe makes the game a lot easier.
So what if you guys talk aboutin terms of what it's going to take
to get to that next level defensivelyand you're a key cogging now, so
what's it gonna take now with theguys that you have. I think we
(04:06):
have a defensive team. I thinkthe trades that you know that Joe's made
has shifted us from you know,a hea heavily offensive power to a defensive
team, and I think that benefitsus. You know, obviously with DeAndre
rob me matis like we have wehave a lot of defenders so I look
(04:31):
forward to it. I look forwardto us, you know, shutting teams
down and winning in that way.You know. Last summer I saw some
pictures I think on Instagram from theywere you in Paris? I think is
a fashion week over there? Ithink? Yeah? And so I want
to talk to you about that.Guys, anybody who's seen you walk into
an arena and knows you have aninteresting fashion is that gonna carry you through
(04:55):
your career and maybe something post career? Are you that interested in it?
Definitely? Definitely. I love fashion. I love the shop. I love
to see the artwork that these designersput out. So it's something It's something
that I'm very interested in. Anduh yeah, I'll continue to, you
know, follow that direction for mycareer, God willing and and after as
(05:18):
well. So you know, Iwas born in Tulsa, So I grew
up a huge Sooner fan. II love your Your father was a part
of the like one of the bestSooner teams of all time. He played
here in Portland. What what didhe tell you about Portland before you came
here? So I was born here, I lived here for my first two
years. I don't really remember it, but you know him and my mom
(05:41):
just telling me how beautiful it isnature wise. You know a lot of
people here enjoy you know, nutritionand holistic things, and uh, they
were just telling me things like thatabout you know, about being here.
So how key is the nutrition andlearning? How guys that come to the
league. I remember Zach Collins whenhe first came in, He's like,
(06:02):
I didn't know anything about nutrition.A lot of young guys are like that.
How key has that been in youas you've learned over the years how
to better take care of your bodyfor the longevity you know, with ten
years in it's huge, it's huge. I think when you're young, you
can get away with eating eating prettybad because your your body recovers really fast.
But once you hit a certain pointand you got it, you know,
I got a decent amount of mileson your body. You gotta understand
(06:26):
that any small thing helps, Soyou gotta, you know, start eating
healthy and things like that. So, uh, the young guys, they'll
they'll catch on. But sometimes, you know, it's it's hard to tell
somebody something when uh they're young andit doesn't affect him as much. Have
you seen you've been out of thepractice facility. I'm sure it's there a
young guy kind of floating under theradar that we don't really know too much
(06:49):
about. That's gonna surprise us.Oh, we gotta we got a lot
of good young guys. To behonest, I don't want to jinx anybody,
so I'm not gonna say nothing, but I definitely I definitely come back
uh uh and and and talk toyou about it when it when it comes.
How good is scoop Man? Schoolis really good? He's really good.
(07:10):
He's really talented, really athletic, and he brings a different he brings
a different what do you say, just a different gear. He brings a
different uh look to the team. His pace is is different. It's not
(07:32):
something that you see often. Anduh, he's growing, He's growing,
He's getting better. He's gotten bettersince I've been here this summer, and
I'm looking forward to him continue toget better. Can he maintain that pace?
Is that sustainable to play? Imean I've seen him G League and
stuff. He plays a hundred milesan hour. Can you keep doing that?
(07:56):
Yeah? I think I think hedefinitely can. I think, uh,
you know, he'll have to conditionhis body to do that for eighty
two games and more hopefully. Butyeah, it's it's definitely something that you
know he can he can keep up. He'll figure out, you know,
when to turn it on and youknow. But but right now, yeah,
(08:18):
he's young, he could he candefinitely do it. So and one
of the guys I'm impressed by itis Chris Murray. What's your take on
what you've seen from him so far? He's good, He's good. Uh,
Talenton, young guy, you coulddo a little bit of everything,
very coachable, he listens and yeah, you could tell he wants it.
He works really hard, so youcan tell he wants it, and he'll
(08:39):
be a good player for sure. What's your take on the tantem of Dame
and your honest together, that's gonnabe. It's gonna be a good team.
It's gonna be a good team.Yeah. I'm excited to you know,
see him play and play against him, to be honest, but uh,
I think that's gonna be. It'sgonna be a great team. You're
probably used to it by now,But how hard is it to say goodbye
(09:01):
to teammates you're tight with. Oh, it's tough, it's tough. It's
definitely always tough, no matter howlong you you're in the NBA. It's
my fifth team, So no matterhow long you're in the NBA, you
know the business by now, Igotta say bye to a lot of guys.
So but it never it never getseasy. You're always gonna go through
that over and over every time. So, uh, it's it's a part
(09:24):
of the business. So one finalquestion for you, Santa Barbara, you
went there last year, going backthis year. How much do you enjoy
getting away for camp like that?Excited? I'm excited to get away for
camp, especially with you know,we got a bunch of new guys,
so for us to you know,be able to come together and you know,
figure out each other's personalities, figureout each other, how we play
(09:45):
on the court together and and everything. So I'm excited for that to you
know, be isolated with the teamsall right. Jeremy Grant traivel Aser Media
Day. Jeremy, good luck thisyear. Congrats on the new deal.
It's awesome and we look forward toseeing you play. Yes, sir,
thank you.
