Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's one oh five nine in the Rock, Nashville's classic rock.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's Battle in the morning, and today we have ourselves
a special guest today on the show. This guy basically
the heart throb of the nineties. He made everybody want
to be a part of the Party of Five.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Even if we had perfectly good families at home.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
And I mean he starred in movies, TV shows, probably
had more Tiger Beat covers than I've had Hot Mills
give it up.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
For the one the only. Scott Woof joins us. So, Scott,
how are you doing, sir Battle?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I'm doing great, brother, how you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Thanks for having me, Thanks for being on the show,
and of course I want to talk about this. We's
got a show out, Doc, which airs Tuesdays nine eight
centro on Fox, dreams on Hulu the following day. You know,
recently you mentioned in an interview that joining Doc felt
like coming full circle with Fox, considering you know, your
early success with Party of Five. Can you elaborate on

(00:50):
how your experiences with the network have evolved over the
years and what it means to reunite with Fox at
this stage in your career.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, I appreciate you bringing it up. I mean, you know,
I started my career on Fox with Party of Five.
It was, you know, the first significant thing I had
ever done. It really kind of announced my career as
an actor. It also was incredibly good. You know, the
writing was so good, the cast was great, it was
shot beautifully. So it set a high bar, you know,
as a young actor who's just like clown away trying

(01:19):
to get opportunities to get a chance to be part
of telling a story that was that was that great,
and I mean I could never have dreamed that. You know,
all these years later, I still get approached and people
say Party of Five meant so much to them. It's awesome,
and so yeah, over the years, it's just so happened
that I've worked for every other network and done a

(01:40):
bunch of shows that I'm proud of that I've loved,
But there was something about being on Fox that was
like kind of in my DNA because Party of Five.
So to get to come full circle back on Fox
and be part of a show that, you know, it's
a very different show, but there's something similar in the
fact that it runs deep, you know, runs deep emotionally.

(02:00):
It's telling really human stories about really complicated characters and already,
just like six episodes in, we've got people that are
just grabbed and holding on tight. And that's what we
dream of telling stories, is to engage in audience and
tell stories that really matter to them. And so so yeah, man,
I mean it's being back on Fox after all these

(02:22):
years and being you know, telling a story that's sort
of at that high bar level that that that got
set when we made Party of Five is really special. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
And again Doc airs every Tuesday nine and at Central
on Fox. Uh, and then strings the following day on
Hulu if you can't watch it on Tuesday nights. Now
you've portrayed doctors in multiple television series. What is it?

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Are we up to four now? I believe is that it?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Or fourth doctor for a fourth doctor?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Including your current role in Doc.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
How is your approach to playing medical professionals changed over time?
And what unique challenges or insights has this role in
doct porsent it compared to your previous uh, you know
runs in the medical field.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, somehow I keep getting cast as a doctor. It's
kind of wild. And I've been around, you know, the
medical environments enough that you don't want me performing surgery
on you battle. But I I've picked up some stuff,
you know, I tend to try and diagnose people in
my family and my life, which annoys the crap out
of everybody. But you know, one thing I would say

(03:23):
first and foremost is we're portraying when we're playing doctors,
real life heroes. You know that the people doing this
work and saving people's lives, and so it matters a
lot that we try and do it authentically, you know,
and bring as much truth to it and understanding around
it as we possibly can. So we prepare I mean,
all the terminology, all the procedures. There's a lot of

(03:46):
work that goes into making sure that it looks and
sounds and feels like the real thing as much as possible.
And I think the thing that I've taken away most,
you know, there's bits and pieces of terminology and procedures.
You know, I could check your blood pressure and your
heart rate. You don't want me doing surgery on you.
But I think, more than anything is just the amount
of respect I have for doctors who are actually saving

(04:09):
people's lives. And it's an honor to be portraying the
work that they do.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, And it's a great show.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Again, watch it every Tuesday night on Fox nine eighth Central.
It's doc If you can't watch it on Fox, you
can watch it on Hulu the next day. And you know,
we have to kind of talk about this. You know,
Party of Five recently just marked it's thirtieth anniversary, and
you've shared a lot of memorable encounters with fans, including
one expected one with a very tall gentleman by the
name of Shaquille O'Neil. You know, looking back, how do

(04:37):
you perceive the show's impact on your career and of
course the lasting influences on audiences today.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah, I mean, look, you know, uh, yeah, you mentioned
Shaquille O'Neil. That was one of the cooler you know,
there's there's always you know, there are times where somebody
you're a fan of, you know, for me, it's sports
and music, and if they're like, oh I love that show,
I love that movie, it's just like, I don't know,
he's a little extra weight and it's kind of cool.
So Shaquille O'Neal was a Party of five fan back
in the day and met him at an event, and uh,

(05:07):
and that was pretty cool. But I mean, look, I
can't even I wouldn't be talking to you right now
probably if it weren't a Party of five. You know,
it it really established it established my career, the career
of everybody, you know, every every part of that cast,
everyone on that core cast is still going, still making
great stuff, still part of telling stories that they love.

(05:29):
And so I was really really proud to be part
of something that that was that good and that meant
something to the audience. So I can't say enough about
you know, people are people sometimes asked, They're like, are
you tired of it? At this point? You know, it's
like enough Party of five? Enough Bailey. No, you know,
I feel like, you know, if if if it weren't

(05:49):
for that show, it wouldn't have shaped who I am
as a as a as an actor, as a person.
So it was an amazing experience and and I do
think it's set up a high bar also for stories
that took younger characters very seriously, you know, And so
there are tons of shows in the wake up Party

(06:09):
of Five that I think maybe wouldn't have happened if
it weren't for that show. So yeah, I got nothing
but love for that show and those characters and that
cast and we still love to this day here in
people that are fans of it.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Absolutely for sure. Scott Wolf is on the show here
with us right now. And I got to go back to.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Something that I wore the VHS out on this I wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I've got to talk about it. We got to talk
about Double Dragon.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I had to bring it up, a film that has
become a cult classic.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
I remember watching it religiously.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I think I went through like three of the VHS
tapes because I would watch it all the time. How
do you view its impact on your career and of
course the broader landscape of video game adaptations in cinema,
And do you have any memorable experiences from that production
that's kind of stayed with you?

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Well, yeah, know Double Dragon. We were snubbed at the Oscars.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Didn't get absolute winning movie.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
No nominations. One of the things I loved Robert Patrick,
a great actor who had played the like melting metal
cop in the Terminator movie. He played Kovie Huco, the
lead villain in Double Dragon. I mean, look, it was
great fun. We were swinging from ropes and boating through
rivers and it was a blast impact on my career.

(07:29):
I love having people say that they loved the movie.
You know, I don't know what I would say the
broader impact would be, other than to say like, I
had a blast making it. It definitely freed me up
a lot, because I think, you know, there was something
so not serious about it that it made it plugged
me into this idea of like, yeah, the work's important.

(07:52):
You want to you don't play characters and serve story,
but like if you have a good time, they'll have
a good time kind of vibe. And and and so
I always love hearing people who who love that movie.
And and yeah, I mean those those video game movies
were a smash for people, and yeah, it was really
fun to be a part of. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I was really hoping for a double Dragons too, but
obviously we didn't get that in the works. So maybe
they'll reboot it, because I think Hollywood likes to reboot
things here, you know, recently recently this is a cool thing.
As a father myself, you had mentioned the importance of
being present with your family and appreciating moments more as
you've grown older. How do you balance I guess the

(08:34):
demands of like a busy acting career with family life
and how has your perspective on this balance shifted over the.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Years, Well, I mean yeah, I mean, look, that's the
biggest it's the biggest thing for most people, the whole
work life balance. And you know, for me, like you know,
the role of my lifetime is dad and husband, so
that I won't sacrifice and so you know, I've made
a lot of decisions and not done things of my

(09:01):
commitment to being a dad and a husband. And now
that my kids are getting older, you know, it's it's hard.
It's hard because I don't want to miss a thing.
But you know, the way, it's a bit of a
circus life. You know, the work is you know, we
shot Doc in Toronto. I don't live in Toronto. Nancy
drew the show I did before it was in Vancouver,
so we did move the whole family up there for

(09:22):
a little while. And you know, we do everything we
can and have done everything we can to stay together
as a family. And then when I'm working, even if
I'm working away, I make it a priority to just
not have a lot of time go by before I
get back at home with my wife and kids. And
so I've been really lucky because I make that a
priority and when I start a project, I say, hey,

(09:44):
I got a family. I'm not looking to be away
from them. And I've had really great partners who are
willing to say, you know what, We're going to figure
this out. And there's ways, especially making Doc. It's a
hospital show, so much of it takes place in these
in the hospital environment on set, and so they can
kind of bunch my stuff together, get me, fly me

(10:04):
out to get with my family and so so yeah,
I mean time missed with my wife and kids, You're
not going to get that back. And so I prioritize
that a great deal.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Yeah, that that's a good thing for sure. And of
course Scott Wolf joins us on the show right now.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Doc airs Tuesday's nine eight Centron Fox streams on Hulu
the following day. Last question before we let you go,
because I know you're a busy man and you got
to go, you.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Know, do brain surgery here soon for your show fans.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Off, I got to go reboots Double Dragons.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
What I got to say, Yes, we need a reboot
of Double Dragons. I don't know who I need to
talk to in Hollywood to figure that out.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yes me, I'm the guy.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Okay, can we get and I will be a stunt
double or an extra if you need it.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So double Dragons in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Hey by your phone, dude, Okay, perfect?

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Uh, you know, speaking of you know, reboots and beloved things,
Fans often express a desire to.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
See reunions reboots.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Recently, it was reported that Little House in the Prairie
is getting a reboots after I think like a hunt
billion minutes of it was watched last year. I know
you've mentioned the idea of revisiting characters at a laser
stage in their lives a party of five. Has there
any been any conversations updates about this moving forward or
is it still kind of in the talking and hoping phases.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I would say talking and hoping, although a couple of
years ago there was a moment where the whole cast
was kind of talking to each other about it. But
there's so many moving pieces that would have to happen
and move and shape. But so yeah, it would just
be it's just ideas at the moment, there's no there's
nothing in earnest happening. But but I've always said I'd
be open to it. Bailey Salinger, more than any character

(11:39):
I've ever played. I'd be really, really curious, and I
think fans of the show would love to kind of
see where Salinger family is right now.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Yeah, I think a lot of people would be interested
to see how that even if if Bailey gets his
own spin off show, we I mean maybe it could happen.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Who knows, right, Listen, We've we're accomplishing a lot today.
We got we got a Double Dragon reboot. Yep, we
got Bailey this series yep. Uh, what else? I mean?
We should let's keep talking because this is We're gonna
We're coming up with some really important stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
I think a lot of people are gonna be excited
once they finish this this interview and they go back
and say, oh, maybe they should do this, maybe should
they do this?

Speaker 3 (12:18):
But yeah, well wait, we we have to we have
to mention the most important thing that we've we're developing today,
which is developing fans of Doc Who Yes.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Nine eight Central on Fox and streams on Hulu the
following day. Uh, Scott, is an honor and a privilege
to have you here on the show before we let
you go, is anything you want to say to all
of our listeners here in Nashville.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
I got family in Nashville. So to my uh my,
my patent family out there, love you all so much.
My folks are moving down there. I got we got
a lot of Nashville connections, so uh so people might
see my face walking the streets over these next over
the while we're developing the Double Dragon, I.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Mean Double Dragon on Broadway saving a woo girl.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
I mean there's the story right there, rights itself. So Scott,
it's an honor. And you know, when you're in Nashville,
swing by the studio. Man, we'd love to have you
on the show again.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Thank you, brother. Yeah, so to my sister Jess, brother
in law Luke, all my nieces and nephews. Love you all.
Peace Nashville. I hope to see you soon. Thanks batter,
You're awesome.
