Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wellness Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It's Sonya Blakey here with doctor Kim Wellness and Wholeness Expert.
We want to talk about autism because it's a National
Autism Awareness Month. I know there's a lot of people
that listen that care for children or even friends that
have autism. What do we want to how do we
want to handle that today? Absolutely there is support for you.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
One of the things that we will go over is
support for the caregiver that actually cares for those that
are on the spectrum, but also understanding and identifying other
ways and healing mordalities to help the person that has
that particular diagnosis.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
All right, we'll be back with doctor Kim. She's with
me on a Wellness Wednesday. Good Morning Inspiration thirteen ninety Family.
It's Sonya Blakey. I'm here, but doctor Kim Holness Wellness Expert.
She is a nutritionist and she has studied, she has researched.
She knows exactly what she's talking about today. I wouldn't
bring nobody on the rail that was not qualified to
(01:01):
talk about whatever they've been assigned to. And so today
we want to talk about autism. We talk about everything
as it relates to health and wellness, and today doctor
Kim wanted to bring up National Autism Awareness Month. And
how would you define autism doctor Kim?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, I would personally define autism as a development of
the brain that's been delayed, and of course it is neurological. However,
it impacts a person's communication skills, their social skills as
well as their behavior skills, and anything can trigger into
(01:41):
moments of upsetness or challenges like light and sound and
different things like that. And so I just wanted us
to not only to support the caregivers that may have
a person in their family and that's connected to them,
(02:03):
but as well as a person that they're caring for.
There are things to manage. There might not be a
cure but a miracle, but there are things that you
can do to support the whole family system.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
So let's focus in on the caregiver, sure, And so
what things would you want to say? Well, what words
would you want to give them as encouragement and motivation
or even some direction and caring for someone that may
be autistic.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Absolutely, well, first, one of the things I wanted to
do was acknowledge you and celebrate you and to say
thank you for having the patience and the kindness and
the grace that's needed when you have a loved one
that has been diagnosed with this particular neural this neural
(02:59):
challenge that they're having. I want to encourage you and
say that you're not alone. That there are systems and
things of support that are out there where you can
go and simply sit with others that are caregivers and
just talk and find out ways that you could have
(03:21):
self love days, self care days for yourself so that
you can get the strength and the wisdom that you
need to navigate your actual world that you're.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
In right now.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
And you mentioned something earlier. Not to blame yourself. Yeah,
not to blame yourself. That's what's happened.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Sure, because parents sometimes they'll wonder was it me?
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Was it you? How did this come about?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
I feel like we're all fearfully and wonderfully made. But
not to take on the burden of why this is
and you know, could I have done anything better? Sometimes
during pregnancy and making sure you take your prenatos and
folate not fullic acid, but folate acid and certain supportive
(04:13):
things while the child's brain is developing is always key
and always help. Also, what time of life that you
decide to have children and how many children you have.
Sometimes if you're having two, three, four or five children
and you find out maybe that the fourth or fifth
(04:35):
child may have developed some brain delay, that you can
always make sure whether it supplements, food, nutrition, on what
was in your gut yourself when the child was being developed.
All of those are very important. But once the life
(04:57):
is here, life is given by God himself. There are
always ways that we can surround you with the love
and the support and the encouragement that you need to
keep the chorus and to keep going.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
And we wanted to to just celebrate you.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
All right, We're gonna come back and talk a little
bit more about National Autism Awareness Month. Doctor Kim is

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Talking about National Autism Awareness Month, Doctor Kim and I
know that there may be caregivers that are listening today,
and we want to be sensitive. You know, we don't
want to believe anybody that is autistic because just because autistic,
just because you may be autistic, doesn't mean that that
you can't learn, that you can't live, that you can't fund,
(06:09):
you can't have fun, that you can't function.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
That's we're gonna put that out the window today. Amen.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
So we want to talk about not just a caregiver,
but about the ones whom the caregiver cares for and
that may be an autistic.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Patient, absolutely, and just making sure in this world that
we include them in day to day living. I even
know a church that made sure that they have sound
proof rooms in their church so their parents can bring
them to church without being triggered in any way. Because
(06:47):
those little things like that, you are making sure that
you care and that you know that they have a
place in this life as well, and you can make
things easy for them because that particular diagnosis. They love
a structured life. They also love certain supportive things that
(07:15):
are given to them. So it can make their life
easier because they're already dealing with social issues, behavior issues,
communicative issues that challenges them. And so since we know
what challenging them, putting things like aromatherapy in place, putting
(07:36):
things like certain massages in place, these things help navigate
the person dealing with that diagnosis better. So let me
give you some aromatherapy oils that you can always have
on hand. And that is geranium, that is Frankinson, that
(08:00):
is lavender, it's peppermint oil. You can also use things
like mushrooms, turkey tail, chaga. You can also use Lion's main,
You can use reshet You can use them in liquid,
you can use them in actual powder form, putting in
(08:24):
their smoothies, and then teaching them. They love teaching this
particular diagnosis where you're diagnosed with autism. Teach them, go
over their speech together. Sometimes they'll they would rather write
it out, but you can do things like read to them,
(08:47):
have them read back. Make it special, make it seem
like a super hero diagnosis more than a stigma.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Make it more superhero than stigma. Doctor Kim knows. I
tell y'all don't play with doctor Kim.

much for shedding light on National Autism Awareness.
