Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's a Wellness Wednesday. Doctor Kim is back with me.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I like how you keep track of what's happening every month,
so it's also National Minority Health Month. You said that
we can elevate our plate to feel great.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
That's right, okay.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
And one of the ways we can elevate our plate
to feel great is by understanding how much power is
in the plate. A lot of times it's minorities. We
might not always have all the education and the hands
on resources for us to win through certain challenges and
diagnosis in the community. But one thing we can do

(00:36):
is make sure we have power in our plate. We
have the ability to live life well.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Elevate your plate to feel great on a wellness Wednesday.
Getting it done again today, y'all, it's wellness Wednesday. It's
Sonya with wellness, wholeness, nutritionists, researches.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Is it a word researches? I don't think so much.
Sounds good.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Doctor can is with me, and we are built on
the word of God up in here right. Everything has
a foundational scripture three John One beloved.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I pray that all may go well with you.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
You and just listening this morning, you and your family,
everybody that's surrounding you, that everything will go well with
you and that you may be in good.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Health just as your soul is prospered. And so we
want to deal with us today.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
It's national minority health Mom, Doctor Kim, there, are you
know certain things that our culture have dealt with historically?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Can we talk about those today?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Absolutely well.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
A lot of times when we go see our primary
doctor or even into the emergency room and they have
you fill out a form, they ask you about your
history and your mother and your father and what disease
or diagnosis have they had and are you susceptible to it?

(01:55):
Are you open to it? And I always like to
tell people that you can absolutely change your DNA through
certain things that you eat, certain things that you drink
and think. You know, we like to say eat, drink
and think. But if you're eating the same things that
your mother and father are fore fathers eight, if you're

(02:17):
drinking the same things, if you're thinking the same things,
of course you're going to have the same outcome. So
to me, this is a season and a year in
all of health history that I feel like that we
must take ownership of our own health care we don't

(02:37):
have to rely on the healthcare of your city, your state,
where you live. You yourself can make sure that you're
having healthier choices when it comes to you don't have

(02:58):
to drink soda or you know there's sometimes poper soda.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
You know, you don't have to.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Eat those meat choices. We don't have to eat all
that pasa, all that rice, all that sugar, and I
candy yams.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
You already got jams. Why they gotta be candied.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
So it's always things that we can choose better so
we can live better, So we won't have to go
to the doctor all the time. We don't have to
rely on certain insurances.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
And be an advocate. Be an advocate for yourself.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Go outside of your community, outside your city. Even when
it comes to hospitals, see what different healing and moradalities
and okay, you know alternatives that we have. There's always
alternatives that we have, and you can be a better
advocate when it comes to your health.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
And can I say one more thing, one more thing.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
When I go to the doctor, I say to them,
do not put me in a category of forty and
fifty year olds.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
My body may be that of a thirty year old.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Okay, okay, So don't put me on medication or put
me in a group of Okay, this is around the
year that you get high blood pressure or it may
be diabetes, so they start pushing you into those categories.
So no, don't give me a test for you before
you get this age. You need to be tested for this,

(04:32):
be tested for that. So make sure that you are
an advocate and make sure that you are taking care
of your body.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
You better tell somebody, doctor Kim National Minority Health Mom.
We're gonna tackle so much more here on the show,
So make sure you reach out to us. You can
call us eight x five nine thirteen ninety or you
can inbox us.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
We want to know your questions on this one. That's Wednesday,
Wellness Wednesday. And Sonia Blakey doctor kem. She ain't nice today, y'all.
She is not being nice.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
We're talking about National Minority Health Awareness Month. And just
because your grandmama did it and your great grandpapa did it, doesn't.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Mean you had to do it. Sometimes you got to
change things up.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
And you know, we love we love our families, you
know we do. But some things if we want to
live better, we gotta do better. Right, So you want
to talk about foods, I'm thinking about fried chicken.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You know we love us.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (05:28):
They said, it's a church bird. How do we call
it the chicken?

Speaker 3 (05:32):
That's one of the main meats that I want to
talk about.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
God not to mention how our communities are filled with
fast foods, corner grocery stores with so many dyes and
sugars and quick things for convenience.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
But those quick things for convenience in.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
The long run really taxes our health and our body.
And since we're not always exposed to healthy foods or
healthy things in our communities, in our neighborhoods, then we
must make the choice that we're gonna do better. Live better,
Grow our own groceries. We can do that, grow our

(06:10):
own group. That's what they used to do back in
the day. Cook in cast iron, that's something else that
we can do. Make sure we're eating in glasses and
not in plastics. Make sure we're not microwaving everything. We
can do. Confectional ovens as well as air flyers that

(06:31):
are healthy, because all airfires are not created equal, and
they have like non stick in them, and they can
be toxic. So live in a toxic free life and
with our choices, making sure that we're venturing outside of
areas that we live so that we can have better

(06:51):
produce and better food choices, cooking in the kitchen like
we used to do back in the day instead of
I'm going to as food.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
And when you look out our community, whether it's ribs
and chicken, and let's.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Pause with the chicken for a minute that doesn't even pee. Okay,
oh god, let's pause with the chicken that is normally
on farms to clean up the farm, to eat and
clean up the farm. So let's pause with chickens that
will turn on each other and beat each other. This

(07:28):
is the the the animal that we sew chicken and waffles,
chicken nuggets, chicken, chicken, chicken, and it's not always that
that good for us. So if we can all just
make better choices when it comes to how we eat
and what we put in our mouth. Remember we talked

(07:49):
about there's power in the plate, and we must elevate
the feeld great, it's in the plate.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Elevate that plate to feel great.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yeah, I told you she's not nice today, y'all.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, my god, So you can have your collar greens,
your mustard greens, but maybe not cook them in it
with hamhocks and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Yes, and you can, and there's all types, and I
know there's some great recipes out there, all types of
great recipes. All you have to do. And my children
they facetimey and call me all the time to find
out how to prepare meals. And what I tell them
is your base is your broth. It's the foundation of
what you create. And when you put your food in it,

(08:29):
you know that's gonna make it taste great, you know.
And so just make sure that if it's greens, have
your some good broth and cook it down in the greens.
And even if you're going to enjoy some meats, cooking
in certain herbs that will help break down those meats.

(08:50):
Make sure your meats are grass fed. And make sure
you get to know your farmer. If you want to
get to know your farmer, make sure your food combining
is going to help you eliminate that meal by the
end of the day. If you're eating twenty one meals
a week, you should be eliminating twenty one times a week.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Okay, somebody's starting to count right.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Now, right there, doctor Kim.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
