Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Sonia Blakey. What are my favorite days of the week?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Because I desired to be well all the way around, mentally, physically.
I want to be well when I go to work,
I want to be well when I go to school,
well when I do with my husband and my kids.
And so that's why we're doing Wellness Wednesday with doctor
Kimberly Allen, who is a wholeness and wellness expert.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
She's been at this for twenty years.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Me.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
So you live this lifestyle that you preach about, that
you teach.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
About, absolutely, absolutely, And can I give a little bit
of story in a background?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
So I had children that I breastfed, and any mothers
know that when you breastfeed, what you eat or in jest,
you passl along to the child.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
So I began to make sure that I ate healthy
and while I was eating healthy for them, I saw
how good and healthy that it was doing me.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
And so I continue to the journey.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Not to mention you know, family, friends and loved ones
that I've been around who have now progressed on but
they had different discs, eases, compromises and challenges in their
body that made me just want to live a greater,
better life.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
I love it, and you're helping us to do the same.
Doctor Kimberly Allen is with me.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
In February is National Heart Health Month, and so we
want to focus on two areas today, food and fitness. Now,
the heart is everything to a body.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Right, it is everything to the body, so much so
that the actual breathed Word of God mentions it over
a thousand times, really over a thousand times. And it
literally says in Proverbs four and twenty three, for each
and every one of us to guard our hearts, because
(01:40):
out of it flows what the issues, those things that
challenges us or compromises us life. And so in order
for us to have that good life, that abundant life,
it says for us to guard it. And then, of
course and the peace of God, this surpasses all understanding.
Just what it will guard our hearts and mind through
(02:04):
Christ Jesus.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Then we got to have.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
What clean hands and what pure heart? I think it's
something to this heart thing, don't you.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
I love how you tied in spiritually, you know, because
we got a lot of people to read the Bible,
they're like, well, how does this tie in? To what
I you know, what's a part of my being and
that's for many of us, it's reading the Bible.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
And so I also want to talk about food how
it affects the heart.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
I know you're an expert, so you can tell us
what foods tie into giving us a healthy heart. Yes, well, first,
if I may, let's talk a little bit about the heart,
because I feel like that.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
In order for people to know how important it is
to support how the heart functions and why food is
so important. The heart is not only a muscle organ
but it's a pump. It has a job.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
It has a left side job and a right side job.
The heart actually sends blood out from the heart to
the lungs to grab oxygen, sends it back to the
heart to oxygenate the heart.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
So you have to eat.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Oxygenated food to support the heart. So I feel like
when people know the purpose of a thing, like what
is its objective?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
What does it do?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Then it'll give them their why I need to eat
like this, drink like this so that my heart can
receive the oxygen that it needs and clean the blood
as it goes through the whole body. It's a pump.
It actually pumps the blood throughout the whole body. So
the foods that we eat that would be good for
(03:44):
any and every one of us.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I feel like our beverage with benefits.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Let's start there, because so many of us, you know,
unbeknounced to us or we some of us grew up
with kool aid and different things like that. We went
on to coffee, We went on to pop and soda
and so much sugar, and a lot of that has
to do with the health of our heart. Why, because
they go directly to the blood. Liquid gets to our
(04:11):
blood and reaches our blood within fifteen minutes, sometimes instantly.
And so if you're not drinking the right beverage and
making sure your beverages have benefits and impacts the blood
and the blood and packs the heart and the cardiovascular
system and the circulatory system. So it's very important the drinks.
(04:31):
So let's start with like switching herbal teas or coffees.
Let's infuse our water with time or rosemary or parsley.
These are just like simple little things that we can
do that our budget friendly and reasonable to make certain.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Shifts, all right, So we tackle beverages, liquids.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
We gotta come back and talk about the actual foods
because we want to have a healthy heart. This is
Heart Health Month. And doctor Kim is with me, a
wholeness and wellness expert. Now, any questions, do me a
favor and make sure you follow me and doctor Kim
and send us your questions so that we can answer
them right here in the studio.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Will we be back on this wellness Wednesday. Doctor Kim is
doing the work on us.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Y'all.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
We're gonna be fine, healthy, wealthy. Everything that we wanted
life we're gonna get from wellness Wednesday. It is February
is National Heart Health Month. And doctor Kim, you told
us the significance of the heart.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Absolutely. Not only is it a organ, but it is
a pump. And it is important that each and every
one of us give our pump, our heart, the support
it needs to flow, to clean, to go to the
lungs to receive the oxygen, and back to the heart
so that we could live the good life, the abundant life,
(05:47):
you know, that life that Jesus came. He said, till
it's full, till it overflows.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
So I just really believe that from Genesis to Revelations.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
He desires us to be well and over.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
A thousand times heart is mentioned in the Bible, so
I think it's.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Something to that.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
And we are at iHeart Radio Inspiration thirteen ninety so
we have to talk about heart health month.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
That Earlier we talked about beverages, like what we drink. Yes,
why that's important, you said, So stay away from the
pop and the soda, the sugary drinks.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
We need to really be drinking like water.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Infused with time, or cucumbers, stuff like that, or some
herbal teas.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Eat herbal teas and even so this is the easiest way,
and we're all gonna adapt some of the things that
I say and talk back to each other.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Our beverages have.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Benefits, our meals, heel we feed ourselves so we can
live life well. Sales are very important, meals are very important.
Beverages are very important. It's not what you eat, but
it's what you're able to ingest and assimulate in your
body for your body to actually use it. So earlier
(07:02):
we were talking about it's key. It's vital that we
know that the heart is a pump. It has a
job to the left and right side of our body,
and what we put in it is going to tell
and show any of us the actual health of our hearts.
Some of us might have palpitations, we may have anxiety,
we may have oppression or depression.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
All of that is heart related.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
And did you know that there is an emotion tied
to each organ in the body. So if you're sad,
that's the heart, that's why we have to guard it.
If you're filled with joy, that's the emotion that impacts
the heart. And so sometimes you can eat something and
it'll immediately shift if your heart pounding really fast, and
(07:51):
it could simply be that you ate something that you
shouldn't have.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
All right, I know a lot of us are guilty
of that, So real quick, Some foods that are heart health.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Oh, let me tell you fruits and veggies that our
alkaline are really good. Let me just shoot some off.
One superfood that you can eat every single day.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
It's kiwi.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
You know that Kiwi Kiwi I passed by then the
grocery store all the time.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
But why because.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
It's high and vitamin sea and our heart needs vitamin sea.
Another food is pumpkin seed.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
It's zinc.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Zinc helps heals us and boost our immune system, helps
our cardiovascular system. Then we need something to help our
circulatory system. The valves, the valves in our hearts are
like doors. They open and they shut to receive blood,
to send out blood. And so cayenne with ginger and
(08:50):
honey and lemon and hot water, that combination it gets
you red hot from head to toe, if you know
what I mean. I'm keeping it PG because Love month
is here too, and so those are some of the
things that we can do. So our spices are just
as important as our food. And so just that one
(09:12):
drink alone, the ginger, the honey, Manuka honey at that
because manuka honey has less sugar, it impacts the your
glycemic index. Uh, it'll arise slow and it has anti
microbio and antibacteria.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Getting real deep on us.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Right now, these big words take it slow.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
We don't know what all that mean.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Right now, but this has been very helpful. I feel
like I'm in health class right now, health class in
high school. I don't know if they still do that,
but we're learning a lot. Doctor Kim Wellness Wednesday. How

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Sure meat underscore, Doctor Chim on social media and I'm
your wholistic doc on TikTok. You can find me there
and then keep it moving with Kim dot com is
another place that you can find me, and so I
hope we'll talk about meals that he'll really soon.
Speaker 1 (10:06):

some Kate, wait the pumpkin Saints. All right, Thank you,
doctor Cam. I appreciate you.
