Speaker 1 (00:00):
The CEO you should know, brought to you by Roby
Foster Miller Eric Insurance. This week's CEO, Delee Powell, president
of Baker's Collision Glass and Service Centers in Mansfield, Good morning,
it's great to see you.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Good morning, right, It's wonderful to see you, and thank
you for having me back.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Absolutely a business it's been in Mansfield for a long
long time. And if people are not aware we had
you on CEO's way back when, I think it may
be back in even twenty nineteen, the last time we
had you in for this.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, I feel like I was one of the very
first CEOs and I appreciate it then and I appreciate
it now. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I thought I was we're rolling toward the holidays, it
would be a great time to shine the spotlight on
a great local company. So I always start this program
the same if somebody just moved to Richland County and
Mansfield area and maybe there I've heard the name Baker's
Collision Glass and Service Centers. Give us a little bit
of what you guys do, because there's a lot that
(01:01):
you guys do.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
It is if it's car related, then we either do
it or we can sublet it out to the best
people around to do it. So if you have an
accident with your car, whether it's a traditional fender bender,
if you have an incident with a deer you know
that is happening this time of year in particular, or
(01:23):
just slippery weather, we handle all those kind of things.
But we also have a complete service center, whether it's breaks,
air conditioning, anything that really you would think that you
need service on your car. We do a thirty thousand
mile maintenance on vehicles, so you name it, we can
pretty much do it. We also have a complete glass
(01:45):
center in house, so we do all of our own
glass installation. We can do glass repair there. And then
also along with that, with the newer models, we're actually
able to do all that calibration that goes along with that.
So the cars now have so many cameras, sensors, all
of those things have to be calibrated, whether you're putting
(02:05):
in a new windshield, even sometimes when your car is
out of alignment, it needs a new calibration to get
all those cameras and stuff working properly. So we're able
to do all of those things.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
There's a lot of things in vehicles and you mentioned
you do a lot of things, and I know your
slogan over the year, take her to Bakers, right, So,
no matter what it is, just take it to you guys.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Right, They'll take care of it.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
That's right. If it's car related, take her to Bakers.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Now, as we chat this morning with the Lee Pole,
this week's CEO, you should know again she is the
president of Baker's Collision, Glass and Service Centers in Mansfield.
Where are you, guys, exactly located at in town For
somebody that's never been to see you guys.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Okay, So we're on Fifth Avenue, which is on the
northeast side of Mansfield, And if you're coming in from
US Route thirty, you're going to turn south and we're
only two tenths of a mile right off of US
Route thirty, so very easy to get to. If you're
coming from forty two, then again you're going to turn
north and right there between the Dairy Queen and Kentucky
(03:08):
Fried Chicken and come down to us, and we're down
there on the left hand side.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
A great spot.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Now for somebody I mentioned that is new to the area,
there's a long history of Bakers and it's all family
for you. So tell us a little bit about the
history of your business.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Sure, So, my dad and mother started the business in
nineteen fifty three and we've continued to grow. My brother
bought the business from my dad and incorporated it back
in nineteen seventy nine, and then I was able to
purchase the business from my brother in two thousand and eight.
And so we're just very proud of this family business
(03:46):
and the service that we're able to give to the community.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
And what's really cool, I say family, it's continued on
because there's multiple generations.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Tell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yep. So very proud and just happy to be able
to work with my family. Both my boys work there,
so I have identical twin boys, Charlie and Chris, and
then my daughter Kim, so all of us they're work
in the business.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
So three generations working at Bakers So tremendous. Now, how
about staff wise for you guys, how many people ballpark
do you guys have?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
We have right around forty five people that work for
us now and all of our different departments, and we're
constantly training and looking for the best, you know, the
brightest and the best cars are very sophisticated nowadays with
all of the computers, all the programming that we're needing
to do with the computers scanning. So with that, we're
(04:40):
training and looking for people that have all kinds of
good skill sets and it really can work in our industry.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
So if somebody was interested in a career with Bakers,
that would they just would they go online? Would they
stop down?
Speaker 3 (04:52):
How would you? Guys prefer that always?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
So we do have on our website, which is www.
Bakerscollision dot com, there is a career's option, so you
can select that career's option and go right there and
fill out an application that'll come right to me and
you can attach a resume along with that. If you
don't have that and you just want to walk in
the door, you can walk in. They'll be prepared for you.
(05:17):
They'll have an application for you to fill out. If
you want to bring a resume in, we'll attach that
resume to the application. So either way works for us.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
All conversation time this morning, CEOs you should know, Delete
pol is with us in studio, president of Baker's Collision,
Glass and Service Centers here in Mansfield. As we continue
talking about bakers. So I'm assuming if somebody wants an
oil change, maybe it's the breaks, maybe it's the air,
that kind of thing, they would set up an appointment.
(05:48):
How does it work? Can they do that online as well?
Give you a call to be able to get that scheduled.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
So right now, it's give us a call and we'll
go ahead and get that scheduled to be able to
look at it. You know, have a technician. It's available
to look at it. But we are working we have
brand new software that we're working with right now that
it will allow people to go online and actually set
up their appointment, whether it's appointment to drop off their
car or appointment for an estimate. So we're working on
(06:14):
that right now.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
All right, very cool, awesome.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Well, while I have you with us, Delia, as we
talk about bakers who has been in Mansfield for a
long long time, let's learn a little bit more about
you for people that are not familiar with you. So
let's step back to the beginning and tell us where
was Delee pow born.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
So I was born in Ashland, Ohio, but that was
kind of because my mom and dad at the time
lived in Olisburg, so Olivesburg is right between Ashland and Mansfield,
and I think at that time, if you lived in Olisburg,
you went to Ashland to be born. But then when
I was five years old, we moved to Mansfield and
(06:53):
lived in Mansfield my whole life Richland County, I should
say Richland County. Went to Mansfield Senior High School. So
I'm an alumni of Mansfield and very proud of that
and just really enjoyed that I met my husband he
was from Ashland, and yeah, then we got married. I
have the two boys that I shared with you, Charlie
(07:16):
and Chris, and then my stepdaughter Kim, and I have
five genius grandchildren. I have smart and athletic grandchildren and
I'm very proud of them.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, I covered one in football and I didn't know
he was your grandson. He had a great year for
Lexington and so I'm sure spare time includes trying to
find time to get to those sporting events.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Then yes, yes, I have to like rotate and make
sure that I'm getting into all of the grand children's
sporting events. And I think you probably even talked about Ellie.
So Ellie is on the soccer Ellie Powell. She started
varsity soccer as a freshman and got some accolades last year.
This year she was a sophomore and was actually wrecked
(08:00):
and got by the occ And so yeah, I'm very
proud of all my grandchildren and their younger siblings are
coming along playing all the sports that they're playing also,
So it's good.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Great to hear about that. Now when you are not working,
we mentioned sporting events. Trying to think. I think traveling
last time we chatted with you was a hobby.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
What do you like to do in your spare time.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Oh, that's a good question. I mean I'm very active
here locally with the chamber and just a lot of
the different things that are happening here in Mansfield. But
I do enjoy traveling. I've got to travel to some
different places. Recently. I was in Nashville, my first time
to Nashville. That was very cool. I could look out
my room window and see the Nissan Stadium.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
There, home of the Titans. Probably right, it is home.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Of the Titans. Yeah, but I was actually there to
tour the Nissan factory. So almost all my traveling is
actually work related, but I enjoy that. And yeah, I
have a passion for my job and I'm so, I'm
very blessed that way.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Great to hear about all of that. Now, as we
talk about you, let's slide back to work a little bit.
We're chatting this morning. You're hearing the voice of Delee Pile,
this week's CEO. You should know as we learn, and
she is the president of Baker's Collision, Glass and Service
Centers here in Mansfield. I always like to, you know,
have people you know, talk about their business and kind
(09:24):
of what sets them apart. And I know, for you,
if they just go to your website, it's the quality,
you know, it's it's the customer service, it's you know,
kind of you know, doing all the great things that
you guys do. Is why people keep coming back to
Bakers over the years, right because of that that, I
guess that that expertise that you guys have.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I think the one thing that does set us apart
is we're passionate about continuing education, really learning how to
fix these new cars properly, because the cars continually change,
and I mean like literally, we can fix one model
of car according to the manufacturer's recommendation, and another model
(10:00):
that comes in a month later could have different recommendations.
They're constantly updating that. So we have lots of certifications
on all the car models. We have access to all
the factory information so that we fix it right, and
we really do a lot of training and education with
our team and they're they're very passionate about that about
(10:21):
fixing the cars correctly. And we look at it like
we're putting a whole family in that car. So I mean,
we want to make sure safety is like our number
one thing. Yeah, we want the car to look good,
but we want it to be safe. So it's like
making sure that it stops the way it's supposed to,
that all the cameras, the mirrors, everything is working properly
when you pick your car up.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Two things before I let you go to LEA.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
It's been a great chat learning and continuing to learn
about your company, Baker's collision, glass and service centers. You
mentioned the new cars, and so you think about you know,
you have brand new cars, summer hybrids, you know, there's
electric vehicles coming up.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
There really is a lot of things going on. You
mentioned what.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
People would call them bells and whistles and cars that
you know so many different notifications. You mentioned cameras. There
is a lot now in cars to oversee. I'm sure
back you know when Baker's first started many many years ago, right,
there is.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
But the nice thing about it is the cars are
actually safer.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah, so many safety features, yeah, yes.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
So it's really been proven that. I think they did
a test with nineteen fifty eight Impala and then a
two thousand and eight Impala like fifty years later, and
when they crash tested those two vehicles, the newer car
was much safer. So even though it had heavier metal
and so on and so forth, the technology they put
(11:41):
in to really protect the passenger and the passengers is
really critical, and that's important. And you're right. I don't
want to say that I remember all the way back
till nineteen fifty three, but I can just say that
how we fix cars nowadays is totally different than the
way my dad did it when he started out.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Or I'll let you go.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I didn't throw this question at you in terms of
your coverageary, I'm sure you have more than just Mansfiet
in Richland County that come to see you guys, then correct,
that would assume.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
We do, and part of that is because of our certifications.
And part of that is actually because as people in
our little core, I want to say, Richland County get
to know us if they move out a little bit,
but it's still close enough for them to bring their
car to us. They do that, so we have a
pretty wide radius. And then because of some of our certifications,
(12:32):
we actually get cars from out of state to repair.
So it's pretty impressive how far a person will bring
their car to us. But it's not uncommon for somebody
to bring a car from Cleveland or Columbus to us
to have it repaired here in Mansfield, Ohio.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
But it has to make you proud of the work
you do that people even if they move a little bit,
they still want to come back to Bakers.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Absolutely, we're very proud of that.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Another great thing about Bakers and she dropped them off
here and there they're eating them right now. The cookies
at Bakers right those are always, always have been a
big hit.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
They have been. That was one of the things that
I brought to the company when I came aboard. And
our little motto is Baker's Bakes for You, and so
we do fresh baked cookies there every day, and when
you pick up your car, then you get a little cookie.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
All right, sounds great.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Now before I let you go, could we throw out
the website again and.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Phone number for people for more information?
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
So.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Our website is Baker's Collision dot com and the phone
number is four one nine five to four thirteen fifty
and you can call us or you can text us
on that number and then we'll respond either way.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
All right, that's very convenient a lot of people and
enjoy the text option. Delee Pole with us this morning
and studio, president of Baker's Collition Glass and Service Centers.
