Speaker 1 (00:00):
The CEO you should know, brought to you by Roby
Foster Miller Eric Insurance. This week's CEO Alice and Campbell,
Executive Director and Sam Marshall, Sales director with Primrose Retirement Community.
Good morning to you both, and thanks for coming in today.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good morning, thanks for having us.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Thank you. Nt Yes, so I've known that name Primrose
in this community, the Mansfoot area for quite some time.
We'll start with executive director Alice and Campbell, give us
an overview. I know you guys have a great community
there on Millsborough Road. But share with us a little
bit about what you guys offer at Primrose.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Okay, So we offer independent and assisted living to seniors
in our area, as well as an entire team to
support their families. We have eighty two units including fourteen villas.
And Sam can tell you a little bit more about
all the amenities and things that she shares with our
families when they come tour with us.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
So a popular item is always our food. Our food
is outstanding. Clementine is from Albania. She's amazing a lot
of home cooked meals, so that is a really big hit.
People come in for tours and have lunch it's a
lot of fun. And then we have our life Enrichment
Angela Gardner, she's amazing. Also our activities, we have six
or seven activities a day. We do a lot of

(01:15):
different variety of things in our amenities. We have our
movie theater, our ice cream parlor, our wellness center and
our pub. It's like a community with en So it's
nice that residents, people that can't drive can just stay
put and they don't have to go out if they
don't want to. They can enjoy everything within Primrose. Housekeeping, laundry,
that's stuff that you do not have to worry about.
Leave all the work to us. So there's a lot

(01:37):
of items included with that.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Hey, go on the website Primrose Retirement dot com and
you know spa room, exercise room, beauty salon, everything. I mean,
I mean literally, you come live at Primrose and you
have everything right mm.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
And we also include transportation to local appointments and shopping
and whatever you may need.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Awesome, tremendous is we learned this morning about Primrose Retirement
Community Millsborough Road in Mansfield and we are chatting this
morning with executive director Alison Campbell and Sam Marshall. Who's
the sales director. Before we go any further and learn
a little bit more about Primrose this morning, Alison won't
want to give you a moment because you were telling
me it's a pretty cool story. I guess about Primrose.

(02:19):
I guess before we get to the story, how long
have you guys been here in Mansfield.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
So we've been in Mansfield for seventeen years.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
The community was built in two thousand and seven, but Primrose,
the entire company started thirty five years ago. Our founder,
Jim Thayers, grew up on a farm in South Dakota
with his grandpa Andy, and he was really close with
his grandpa Andy. And as grandpa Andy aged and had
a lot of physical and mental health struggles, and he
seemed to notice he was really isolated out there on
the farm and he could use some socialization. And he

(02:47):
started visiting different facilities in his area and he was
appalled at what he saw. He thought, we can do
so much better than this. So he invested his time
and energy into developing the concept of Primrose, and here
we are thirty five years later. He still runs the company.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Very very cool.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah, tremendous story. And again, Ben and Manswood, you mentioned
seventeen years, so let's kind of dive in. You talked
about some of the things you offer. You mentioned eighty
two units, but let's talk about you know, maybe somebody
who's single that you know that wants to you know,
live at Primrose, maybe a couple. Could we talk about
that kind of what you offer there.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, so we have many couples that come into Primrose,
a lot of people that want to come and enjoy
the amenities, and you know, we call it this is
living because we want people to come as early as
they can, to come and enjoy all of that. That's
the whole point in Primrose. But also we have a
lot of widowers that come in that lost their significant other.
We have all kinds of people, so they can connect
with different residents that we have. But it gives them

(03:45):
an option to you know, get active and we have
exercise class, social hour every Thursday, that cocktail party. They
can get around and you know, because a lot of
them come in, they're so isolated and lonely, so it
is nice to have that push to get them active
again and socialize.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I like that, Alison. You hear Sam mentioned connect with others,
you know at Primrose eighty two units. It's kind of
like a family atmosphere would assume.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Then, right, yes, it is a family atmosphere. You know,
everyone there has a reason for being there that's beyond
a paycheck. Myself and everyone in my team included, I
have faith in everyone in that building and what they
do every day and what they provide to our residents
and their families. The relationships that we have there are
just incredible. You can't describe what you know, what we've
built there. And yeah, I just that connection between residents

(04:33):
resident but also residance to staff, family members, you know,
the support because this is a hard time a lot
of them are aging in place there. You know, it's
a big change to leave your home of fifty years
to come to join us, but you know that it's
something you need to do that will in the end
be better for you and your family. And so we're
really big on trying to support people through that process,
help them live their their best life there at Primrose.

(04:56):
And then you know, as like I said, the goal
is for people to age in place there and this
their home.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
So yeah, that's our job, that's what we do.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
And their families become our families, which is really important.
So even if people you know do pass away, you know,
we still stay connected with those family members and it's
just one big family atmosphere. That's why I love it there.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
I like that family and as you mentioned earlier, everybody
living their best life. As we learned this morning about
Primrose Retirement Community right here in Mansfield. We are joined
by the executive director, Alison Campbell, and Sam Marshall, who
is the sales director. They are this week's CEOs. You
should know as we learned about them. All Right, so

(05:37):
here's the next question. Somebody knows about Primrose in Mansfield
on Millsboro Road. Is it just Richland County that residents
are living there or do we branch out further Allison, No.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
We have residents from all over the country. We take women.
We've just recently moved in a couple from Florida. We've
had we have people from all over Arizona. We just
took a deposit from a lady from Whevish, Missouri, Missouri.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
We have people from all over the country that come
a lot as well as local people. We have a
lot of people when they come tour, they're like I
know them, I know them. I know them because they've
lived in this community their entire lives. Mansfield is good
for being one person away from knowing everyone.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
So well, that's great to hear people and not only locally,
but you know, across the country coming to live here
at Primros. So before we go any further, let's go
on a little information. Somebody wants to come check out Primros.
How do they get the ball rolling? Hey, they need
to come for a tour and check that out. How
do they get started there?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
So if they're interested in a tour, all they have
to do is just call if they want to call me,
Samantha Marshall, my direct number is four one nine five
four four three six seven eight. When they just give
us a call or get on our website and schedule
a tour there and they can come in and we'll
show them the community. Schedule a lunch tour. I always
recommend that so they can try the food, so they know,

(06:53):
you know, you got to always try it. You can't, Yeah,
you can't. You're not gonna move in somewhere if you
don't like their food. So that's a big we really
want them to come for that. And then yeah, they
just communicate with me, Samantha, so that's how they get in.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Also, if they happen to be on the bike trailer
driving by, they're welcome to drop in. We have drop
in tours all the time, weekends, evenings, during the day, anytime,
and any of our staff is willing and able to
show them around.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
So okay, So if they want to schedule tour, they can,
but it's okay to say, hey, I'm on the bike trail,
there's Primrose boy. I've always wanted to stop in, Go
ahead and do it.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Then. Yeah, we did one like that last week with
d a couple that came off the bike trails.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
So we've always been wondering about this, and.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
We have tour today signs, so anytime you can tour.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
And we should let people know that you want, you
want to come to Perimros right now, a waiting list
you want to get your name in now.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Right Yes, we do have a waitlist right now, and
it's kind of hard to say how long, just depending
on the style apartments, because we do have anywhere from
our condos, those are two bedroom, two bath villas inside
the community, we have two bedroom, one bedroom options and
we have a variety of different kinds of waitlists. So
in order to do that, it's called our future Resident

(08:01):
Club Membership. So they do get on the waitlist with
that with a security deposit, and then they get to
enjoy Primrose while waiting on that waitlist. So we want
them to come in for meals, we want them to
come from for activities. We want them to get to
know and connect with the community before moving in to
make sure this is where they want to be.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Awesome. I like how you said that, You stop in,
you try the food, and you're like, Okay, I love
this place. All right, perfect, you're here there From Sam
Marshall again, who's the sales director at Primrose Retirement Community
in Mansfield. Also with us in studio is their executive director,
Alison Campbell right now, And I know you have to
have a great staff to be able to do what

(08:38):
you guys do at Primrose. But Alison, right now, roughly
Ballpark US, how many staff members do you guys have?

Speaker 3 (08:44):
So in total we have seventy six staff members. We
are fully staffed right now. Like I said, I can
brag on my staff. I tell people all the time
on tours like as beautiful as our facility in our
community is like you know, the movie theater and the pub,
and it's it's very impressive. The most impressive part of
our community is our staff. They will take the time
to get to know everyone, your family, the connections. They'll

(09:05):
know things about your history, the things you love. They'll
dance with you. They'll do anything they can to make
you smile while they're there and make you feel at home.
So that factor alone, we could sell the building just
on the staff we have there.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Awesome. Always have to have a great staff no matter
what line of work you're in. But you talk about
a retirement community Primrose with a great staff. All right.
So we've learned a lot about Primrose this morning, but
before we let them go, I give a few more questions.
We want to learn a little bit more about them.
So we're going to step back to the very beginning.
We'll begin with the executive director, Alice and Campbell. Again,

(09:39):
we are talking with Primrose Retirement Community this morning. People
would probably want to know where was Alison Campbell born.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Oh gosh, well, I was born in Columbus, but I'm
a local girl. I graduated from Ontario. I lived in
Lexington for twenty years and just recently moved back to Ontario.
Went to college at NC State, Ohio State, and Franklin University.
Originally started out in physical therapy and I was doing
home health physical therapy for almost twenty years. I worked
in every facility in town. I've worked in about every

(10:09):
county in Ohio. It feels like doing home health. And
I fell in love with PERMROS years ago when I
was Most of my patients I was seeing were there,
and I got involved in activities and classes and their events,
and I really grew great relationships not only with the
residents but the staff there as well. And I had
previously went back to college for a degree in healthcare

(10:31):
management and human resources and I was working on my
masters at the time when the previous executive director retired,
so I was able to fall into that role. And
it was just it was a big, big change because
I left an entire career of almost twenty years doing
something different for something. But it was the best decision
I ever made. I absolutely love working for PERMROS. Can't
say enough good things about that. Yeah, So, Sam, I

(10:52):
don't Sam, where did you go to school?

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Well, I'm from Delaware, Ohio.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
You're born in Delaware?

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Okay, I was at Buckeye Valley and that was the Barons.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yep, I know, my sports party.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
So it's in the middle of a cornfield. So we
had our we had the rider tractor at school day.
So yeah. So I grew up in Delaware, Ohio, and
then I went to Columbus State Community College, went to
business management. I have always worked in healthcare. Of those
starting out I've worked, I started out as receptions to
move my way up to a sales director. I've worked

(11:26):
in the industry for a very long time. My turned
twenty years old, I was working in it. So but
I've always had a love for seniors, my grandparents. I
was raised by them and my mom, you know, when
she would go to work, I'd go there. So I
always had a love for them. And then I ended
up volunteering at a nursing home when I was like
six years old. So I've always loved it and this
is my passion. And then I moved to Belvo about

(11:48):
five years ago when I met my husband, and we
have a house in Belvo and a little baby. He's
one years old. So and then I started Primrose two
and a half years ago.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Okay, all right, I do have a few more questions?
You kind of gave me a lot of the questions
for you as we'll go back to Alison. How long
have you been at Primrose now.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
I've been the executive director for almost three years, and
I was working in Primrose as a therapist for almost
five years.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
Prior to that.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Okay, all right, married kids.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
No, I'm not married. I do have a daughter in college.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
I have a couple of boys that are grown, and
my daughter plays softball at Marietta College, so I spent
a lot of time chasing her around at the ball fields.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
So yeah, So my last question for you both was
going to be what do you like to do when
you're not working? It sounds like for you probably going
to games, I would assume, But what else do you
like to do hobbies when you're not working.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
I have a three year old Wimerner named Rider who
everybody knows. Riders usually with me a lot of places
and Primrose dog.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Yeah, he visits. He goes with me everywhere.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
We take convertible rides, we go to you know, breweris
and restaurants and go hang out and yeah, so a
lot of my free time is spent with my dog.
You know, and then the typical hobbies, reading and things
like that.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
It's awesome. All right, Well, Sam, I know you mentioned
you have a young child, so I'm sure that's busy
outside of work. But for you and the husband, you
by yourself, what do you like to do when you're
not working?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
So he my husband plays professional men's softball, so I'm
also going to his games on the weekend. But we
normally do a lot of family stuff. So now that
we have a one year old, our life has really changed.
So it's more family oriented. So we go on walks
and we take them to the park, and we have
two dogs ourselves, so we're always doing stuff as a family.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Now, all right, tremendous to learn about Primrose Retirement Community
this morning. Before I let him go, just a couple
more quick things again. The voices you hear are executive
director Alison Campbell, who's right in front of me. To
my right is Samantha Marshall, sales director. We of course
have been learning about them all morning, and I want
to circle back and you both can chime in here.

(13:50):
We'll start with Alison, so somebody hears Primrose Retirement Community,
this is where you kind of brag about you guys,
and you guys have talked about you know how great
you know it is. But what makes you guys special
For those listening that they're thinking about a retirement.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Commandity, I think the big thing is, and I touched
on it earlier, is we have the right people on
our team at all levels of the organization, from home
office to management and a building to our floor staff.
Everyone is super important and it all has play such
an important role, and we try to make work fun
and we make it a great culture where people want
to work. But also that means the residents want to

(14:25):
live there. You know, that whole vibe translates into the
care that they're getting, and we just really try our
best to accommodate, never say no, you know, anything we
can do to go above and beyond for our residents,
but also for our staff, because at the end of
the day, they're the ones that make this all happen.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
I like the above and beyond, Sam anything you'd like,
Dad about what makes Primrose unique and special.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
One thing that I really want to share is what's
amazing is when I'm giving tours, especially, I don't necessarily
like I connect them with my residence. My residents are
my biggest salespeople. They want to share their experience and so,
like you said, our staff's amazing, but our residence are
amazing too, and they're they're the main reason why I
can sell. You know, That's why people want to come
to Primros because they meet our residence and they see

(15:09):
the experience they're having, and they're the first people wondering
if I have an event. They're like, what can I
do to help? I mean, we just it's one big
family there and that's I just can't say enough about it.
I love it.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
As we're talking here and we are chatting, you have
an event coming up soon, I know we want to
mention that.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
So we do have our open house. It's October seventeenth
from four to six. This is a great opportunity for
people that are interested in premos to come in, do
a quick tour or take a look around. We have
live entertainment, food refreshment, so it's gonna be a great evening.
There'll be a door prize also, pretty exciting options that
we have for a door prize, so you have to

(15:47):
come out and see what it is.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
All right, very cool and Alison, you were telling me,
you guys just have all kinds of events happening.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Right, Yeah, especially this time of year, towards the end
of the year, we really have a lot of exciting stuff.
We do have a big craft show in November. We
have a trick or Treat event in October. We are
going to have a Desserts in December event, which is
our big Christmas event. We'll have Santa Claus and a
fundraiser and live music and it's a lot of fun
and a lot of our big events. Our families all

(16:15):
show up for it, so it's a good time and
you can really if you ever want to come to one,
you can really get a feel for what the vibe
is at Primrose.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
All right, So a lot of great things happening with
Primrose Retirement Community. Before I let you go, let's throw
out some contact information one more time. So I've mentioned
they can go to the website real easy at Primrose
Retirement dot com and they can just click on Mansfield
Sam says, or better yet, they can call Sam. So
you want to throw out that phone number.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
So my direct number, which is the best way to
reach me, is four one nine five four four three
six seventy eight.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Did we miss anything this morning, anything we haven't touched
on that we want to mention to let people know
about Primrose.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
The only thing I really want to go over again
is just the different options we offer a Primrose. So
I mean, you can age in place, like Alison said,
like straight from our villas, which are independent living and
they have two bedroom, vaulted ceilings, they're beautiful, sun porch,
two bedroom to bath. Those you can be independent in
living and they have garages also, and then you can

(17:17):
move inside and we have independent living and assisted living
in there. So we have two bedroom apartments down to
even a studio apartment. We offer a variety of options
for people and depending on what they're looking for.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
And I feel like the big thing that I'd like
to share that I noticed from my previous career is
that it doesn't feel like a room when you go
to Primrose. It's an apartment, it's a home. There's lots
of natural light in every style we have, from the
studios to the one bedroom, two bedroom to the villas.
The villas are absolutely beautiful. Like Sam said, they have
a sun porch in vaulted ceilings, in a fireplace and

(17:51):
just so much natural light, so you don't get that
feeling of being in a room. When you're there, it
feels like a home.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Awesome, great story this morning as we learned about Primrose
