Apple Podcasts apologies, you still gotthat SIMS looking graphic. I don't know
why it has an updated there oniTunes. I'm gonna figure it out,
but appreciate you being here rocking withus in this week's episode. And for
(00:51):
the culture, I'm talking about DavidBeckham calling out Victoria and putting her on
the blast and let's talk TV.I watched the Big Short on Netflix for
the very first time. In Bitch, I spill all the tea about what
really happened in one of my recentbig artist interviews. And in Today in
the Bay, we are getting aw NBA team. Let's go so by
(01:11):
all means, let's get to it. This is for the culture, for
the culture or the culture. Thisis where we pick a headline and ask
if they, she or he didit for the culture. I think I
gotta give it to David Beckham onetime. There's a new docu series on
Netflix. It's called Beckham. Andnow there's a clip from it going viral.
(01:33):
Basically Posh Beckham. It's her realname, Pash. What's her real
name, Victoria Beckham, not mesaying Pasha Beckham. I'm done with myself.
Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice. She'sgetting interviewed and I don't know what
they ask her, but she's basicallykicking it off, saying how her and
her family were working class, likesuper super working class, and she's just
(01:57):
doing this interview by herself. Butright when she says that, David Beckham's
like whoop. He pops out fromlike the freaking closet or like the other
room, and it's like, ah, I don't need you to be honest
for a second, Like, bitch, I know you ain't talking working working
class. I am being honest.I am being honored. Did your drive
(02:17):
you to school? So my dad, my dad, it's not a simple
answer because did you get it depends? No? No, no, no,
no okay. In the eighties,my dad had a rolls roy and
then he just like dimps back intohis room. He was so disturbed,
(02:38):
like, bitch, I need youto be so for real right now.
That was like literally stop blind tothese people, was like a video I
gotta respect David Becker for that. What is it with like rich people wanting
to be from the working class sobad, or like wanting to prove that,
you know, they're they have arags to riches story. It's okay,
it's okay, it's not you're fallif you were born rich or born
(03:00):
wealthy or born into like a familywith money. But your dad had a
Roy's royce in the eighties. Inthe eighties, that's different. Money,
baby, you had money, stopit. I love that David Beckham had
to keep it real with her realquick, though. I kind of want
to watch this docu series though.I was like looking it up and apparently
they like break their silence about afair allegations and they talk about all of
(03:23):
it. But I got a littlemore respect for David Beckham in that club.
He had to put her in herplace real quick. So David Beckham
doing it for the culture. Let'stalk TV, you guys. Last night
I watched The Big Short for thevery first time. This is an old,
old movie. I mean, nothello old. Let me see what
(03:44):
you came out twenty fifteen. Cameout in twenty fifteen. The cast is
crazy. You got Steve Carell andit Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad
Pitt. On top of that, there's like a bunch of like guest appearances,
like cameos like Margot Robbie, AnthonyBourdain, Selena Gomez. But basically
it's about the economic crash and housingbubble during the two thousands. So Christian
(04:08):
Bale, his character works for likethis investment firm and he realizes that real
estate is about to crash. Andit's like him and a bunch of other
very few but like two other groupsof people that are also realizing this,
and they're like working to bet againstthe housing market before it all crashes so
they could come up on all this. It's really good. It's super super
(04:30):
good. My boss actually put meonto this movie a long time ago.
My boss I have a like ifyou check my notes ap, it's a
long list of movies I need towatch. He's always putting me onto fire
movies. And last night I justwas tired of watching the same shit over
and over again, and I waslike, you know what, and I
saw I was on Netflix. Ihaven't logged on Netflix in a long time.
I've been like strictly HBO Girly andAmazon Prime. I finally locked into
my Netflix and it was like recommendedto me right at the top. I
(04:54):
was like, oh shit, hetold me about this movie, so let
me watch it. But it wasfunny when we were talking about it.
We were really talking about how moviesthat like break the Fourth Wall and like
movies that we like that do that, and he was saying, how this
movie does it well, and Iwas telling him, like, oh,
you should watch Winning Time on HBObecause they do that a lot. And
after I was watching The Big Short, I saw at the end that it
was directed by Adam McKay who alsodirected Winning Time d Ning, So there's
(05:17):
that connection. But it's just sogood, like it's it's gonna make you
mad about how fucked up our governmentand the banks are and like you know
that whole housing crash, like howmany poor people and working class people were
affected by it, but also it'sit's it's crazy because it's it's based on
(05:39):
a true story and like these banksand the government does not give a shit
about us not to go not togo on like a whole woke grant,
and it's crazy because you are rootingfor at least I was like, I
was Christian Bales' character and no onebelieves him. You know that the real
estate is about to crash. They'relike, what are you talking about.
You're making these crazy bets against thehousing market. You know you're gonna put
(05:59):
our firm under Everyone's against him throughoutthe movie, and you're like stressing out
for him and these other group ofpeople that are like trying to prove that
it's right or you know, Iguess, kind of waiting for it to
actually happen so they don't look likeidiots, and you are almost rooting for
Christian Belle's character. But like atthe end of the day, like the
bigger picture, I guess is justlike these are just a group of guys
(06:20):
who like came up like other thanany of these are rich assholes that also
came up on millions and millions ofpeople losing their homes and their jobs for
this terrible thing that happened. It'scrazy, but watch it and it's really
fun, I would say, becausehe also told me to watch Fuck,
(06:42):
I've already forgot what it's called themargin, I think, and it's like
a similar uh, like it's aboutthe margin call similar theme like kind of
about the same thing, the housingmarketing it crashing, but it's a lot
more serious. I will say thisis it's a movie that makes you think,
but it is very fun, likethe Fourth Wall breaking. There's some
legit lol moments. I love RyanGossling's character, Steve Carell too, Brad
(07:06):
Pitt. They all kill it.So if you haven't watched it The Big
Short on Netflix, go stream thatand let me know what you think.
On our Instagram at Underscore, FTRpod or on my socials at Angeline on
Air, or if we're living onlistening on a help of podcasts, leave
something in the little review section inthe comments, join the conversation. I
(07:27):
said, bitch, if you wantedto go to Taylor's, just tell a
brother you want to go to Taylor's. You said that? Oh hell yeah,
man, I laid it out right, I says, I said,
I says, I said, bitch, bitch, I needed to event.
Okay, last week I talked aboutmy boss dropping like really really really big
(07:50):
news on me, and that isstill happening. I'm shooting a video for
this big announcement tomorrow. Mignana probablyhave a really busy day I'm also interviewing
Olivia Rodrigo again on Zoom. Meand her just talks. I feel like
we're bestie. So we're gonna catchup about Guts. If you have any
questions for her, you want aboutthe album, hit me up on Instagram,
at Angelina on air or at UnderscoreFTR pod. First of all,
(08:13):
do you hear my stomach girling rightnow? I haven't ate all day.
I did have a cup of coffeethough it's like five pm. Oh my
food did just get delivered downstairs.Gotta go pick that up. But anyways,
what were the saying starving right now? Tomorrow morning? Olivia Rodrigo in
the morning on Zoom and then I'mgonna come into the station early so we
(08:35):
could shoot this cute little promo videofor this big announcement I have coming up.
But this kind of ties into it. So you guys know, my
show, The New hit List,my Little Baby, it's mine and my
boss's baby. No one believes inus in this show and it's ours and
it's doing well, and I'm tryingto grow the following on Instagram, so
go follow the New Hitlist. Okayat New hit List on Instagram. But
(08:56):
it's a show where we only playnew music. And lately I've been getting
really really amazing, like big artistinterviews that I usually you know, they
usually only go to like really bigmarkets, not that San Francisco is not
the San Francisos number four in themarket, but like these type of artists
are only going into New York inLA. But I've been getting at least
(09:16):
being able to hop on zoom withthem. And recently I got probably the
biggest one of my career Billie Eilish. First of all, me and Billie
Eilish besties. Like her energy wasso dope. She I feel like me
and her It was just like anatural conversation like we were. She was
just like dropping all the tea, like she didn't give me any short answers.
Her mood wasn't I don't want tobe here or this is my twentieth
(09:39):
interview today, because it probably was. Honestly, if you look at like
all the interviews she did that week. She's in that backyard, that backyard,
put in work, same outfit,so she was probably doing like a
million interviews that day. I justreally liked our conversation, and I'm so
grateful that I get to interview theseartists like there was a time in my
career. And this is for everyonestarting a radio you know, sometimes you
(10:01):
gotta interview people you're not into, maybe that you haven't even heard of.
You don't have to get that practicein and it just it just comes with
the job, right like when you'restarting, obviously you're not gonna get to
interview like super big artists right away. You gotta prove yourself. And I
actually happened to really love Billie Eilish, like I thought she was gonna be
(10:22):
a star the first from the firstsingle I heard from her years ago,
and it just really went really reallywell. But let me just bed for
two seconds, because it's not thatI'm not grateful for this, it's just
the politics of this job. SometimesI gotta like check myself because it could
really get to you. And Ithink a couple of weeks ago when this
(10:43):
was happening, I definitely let myselfgo on this little spiral or this just
overthinking and being dramatic, but alsomy feelings were valid. So okay,
let's back it up. Find outI'm gonna do the Billie Eilish interview.
Her team asked me to send questionsin advance, and I'm noticing, at
least with this particular record label andwith bigger artists, sometimes that's what you
(11:05):
have to do. I had todo the same thing for Olivia Rodrigo,
and I'm at first I was likesuper excited about Billi Eilish because it's a
big artist. But it was likehappening at the end of the week and
I was like scrambling, so Ihaven't really had my time to like do
my research, but I know, you know, they send you like a
bio and the stuff they want youto talk about, like the topic.
So I kind of knew how itwas going to go. But then one
night I finished my shows, itwas like two nights before the interview,
(11:28):
and I went down this rabbit hole, you guys. I was watching every
Billie Eilish interview ever or her likecute little segment she does on Variety.
I was like listening to her oldmusic videos, reading the comments. Like
I just went down this Billie Eilishrabbit hole, and I got so into
my interview questions and I had somereally good ones. Okay, I probably
(11:48):
had about started with like fifteen totwenty questions right and all that I was
like really passionate about. There's onethat like connected to the Bay Area.
For example, she does this thingwith variety, you know variety, like
we'll have artists go on there andanswer the same questions and you know,
supposed to be like a yearly thing, so you see how much they've grown.
(12:09):
I think that's a really cool segmentthat they do. But for I
feel like three years straight. BillieEilish said that one of her favorite movies
was Fruvel Station Now as a bayArian pedestrian. Great movie, but it
just hits a little too close tohome. I think a lot of us
agree that we saw it and we'renever gonna watch it again, Like it
was just too heartbreaking. But Michael, but Jordan and Ryan Coochler, they
(12:30):
all killed it and like obviously rancoolish from the Bay But like you did
an excellent job of like really makinga Bay Area movie. We talked about
like how some people hate Coach Cartereven though it's a great film. A
lot of people from Richmond don't fuckwith it because it didn't have a great
representation of the Bay Area or Richmondat all. Like they threw brun a
Raiders hat that was about as berryas it got, but the representation was
(12:50):
not there. Proovevel Station had thatlike Bro was listening to mom figures and
the jacka, you know what Imean, like the slang, all of
it. They got it down.So anyways, I was going to bring
that up and then kind of askher if she'd ever be down to work
with Ryan Coogler. I thought that'dbe a great clip for the Bay Area,
be the Eilish movies, all ofit, I will say, And
their defensive team did tell me thatI couldn't talk about Barbie. Nothing about
(13:13):
Barbie, even though we could talkabout her song What's it called? What
was I Made For? I couldtalk about it, but I can't mention
Barbie because of the strikes, andyou know, they want to make it
very clear that they stand with thew w GA. Second, after all
the writers and all that good stuff, so movies don't even exist, we
cannot talk. The first it waswe just can't talk about Barbie. So
(13:35):
I thought that'd be okay. ButI sent my questions and they cut out
anything that had to do anything abouta movie. So it was very much
like no movies don't exist. Writers, actors non existent. We can't talk
about it at all. So theytook out like four questions that had to
do with that, because you know, I also want to ask her if
if she'd be down to continue acting. There was a couple of movie questions
(13:58):
in there, but some of thequestions I got cut out I had nothing
to do with movies, and Iwas like a little annoyed, but at
the same time still grateful for thisinterview. Whatever they got cut I still
have a handful of like really greatquestions that I'm passionate about that I'm still
excited to ask her, so Ikind of let it. I was a
little annoyed at first when they sentit back, but whatever. And then
(14:18):
at the day before, the girlhits me up kind of saying like,
if I could send the questions back, so like to I guess confirm that
I saw what questions got taken outon and I was a little bladed by
that. Send them and then theygo, Okay, they send me another
email, this is the final finalapproved questions, and they cut out another
(14:39):
half of those questions. You guys, I was wiling. I was so
mad, I guess because I'm like, maybe I'll be in dramatic, but
I was so annoyed by it atone point that I was like, what
am I doing here? Like notthat I was like about to quit my
job, but I was just verylike, man, if I want to
be known as this person that hasgood interview, you know, I want
(15:01):
my shit to do good. Iwant to like hold this a certain repusa
a little bit that I can't eventalk reputation, Like how am I gonna
do that when this shit is beingcontrolled? And I, you know,
I was like, why don't y'alljust send me a list of questions you
want me to ask this artist andwe do it that way, Like if
if we're just doing this for promoand it's this is a situation where I
just need to be grateful that I'mtalking to Billie Eilish in the first place,
(15:24):
you know, then do it thatway. I was like obviously anod
thinking in my head this way andand yeah, just like what am I
doing here? Like is this howit's always going to be? And then
I I was talking to my coworkerfrom another station and like brought myself back
down to life because at the endof the day, I am so grateful
that I'm talking to her, andI kind of just need to get over
(15:46):
it. And that morning we hadthe interview, and honestly, it went
so great. Like I said,me and her were just vibing. She
dropped stuff that I didn't think shewas gonna drop, like I have one
question, and she ended up likerevealing something that she was gonna drop in
the future. Like while it's goingon, I'm like, oh my god,
this is gonna be so good onsocials. Like in the back of
(16:07):
my head. It was just areally good interview. So the the interviews
and I'm like, you know what, Angelina, Oh, we're crying.
Like first of all, I onlyhad ten minutes with her, so like
realistically, all those questions I had, we wouldn't even been able to fit
it in the interview because even withwhat they cut it down to, like
(16:27):
her team was very much in ourchat saying like, okay, wrap it
up, you know, go alittle. You still got cut these liners
at the end you want us tocut, like you need to wrap this
up because she was giving me suchamazing answers, you know it. Me
and her were just vibing, soit definitely was like on pace to go
above the ten minute mark. Soit ended up working out. I'm like,
(16:48):
you know what, I only hadenough time for these questions. They
were great questions. She gave meamazing answers. It's gonna be so good
on socials. I like what Igot from this interview, what I learned
from her personally, it was allgood. You guys. Next week,
I notice another station from I don'tknow where the fuck going viral because the
same thing she decided in my interview. But she like you know, talked
(17:11):
about being an album mode and they'regoing viral, and mind you, I
haven't even got the interview back, and I'm like, these fools are already
posting it. So I was like, let me message her team like,
hey, so excited to post contentfrom this interview. I just want to
follow up, see where we're at. She messed with me the next day.
IM gonna send it later on todaythey send it, you guys.
Half of the interview is cut out. I wanted to fall to my knies,
(17:40):
no, all the parts, Likeif you look on my Instagram,
there's a clip of her talking aboutmusic videos. You know, I want
to talk talk to her about beinghow she's a director and directs music videos,
and I asked her if there wasany songs from Happier than Ever that
she wishes she had done, andthen she goes on to say, how,
you know, originally she had thisplan of making a music video for
(18:02):
every single song on the project, but something had came up, and she
kind of vented to me about thething that came up, and then she
announced something. They took out thewhole announcement. They took out her venting
about what it was that I justthey cut out so much and I was
reading the YouTube comments and one persondid say, like, you could tell
this this edit it because they're likelaughing about something, and then it cuts
to this and I'm like, yesit was edited, And I'm the person
(18:26):
like I hate this about myself, but I do care about what other people
think, you know what I mean? Like they say not to do that,
I do a lot. And Icould have a million amazing comments praising
my interview, you know, reallyhyping up something. Billie Eilish said,
it could be a million comments. It's gonna be that one bad comment that
(18:47):
really irritates me because someone had puton there I hate when these like all
these interview people ask the same questions. Oh you know what, No,
we don't. A lot of y'alldon't know that we have to ask.
There is topics that we need tohit, Like our team is like,
please talk about A, B andC and then maybe you could freestall your
own shit, like it is verymuch your interview, but we need you
(19:08):
to talk about this in whatever wayyou see bringing that up. So that's
one. This is just talking aboutthat kind of common in general when people
say that. Two. Obviously notwith Billie Eilish, but sometimes you have
artists that are like on the risejust because you know them and your stance
of them. Like a lot ofpeople, this might be their first time
being introduct introduced to this artist,So like, I am still gonna ask
(19:32):
this person when they got started inmusic or you know, maybe they are
famously known to work with a bigproducer. I'm gonna bring that up because
just because you are down doesn't meanthe world is like this is still very
much an artist that's on the comeup. So you do need to still
ask those generic questions that maybe you'retired of hearing, but the world doesn't
know about this person so and there'sonly so much you can ask them because
they only have like one ep out, you know what I mean. In
(19:56):
general, I'm just spenting about thatwhole situation in general. Then in this
one though, I'm like, ohand in my defense, like Billy Eilish
literally in the interview, was like, thank you so much for asking me
this question, Like there's only somuch I could do. But I was
just irritated that it got cut outand I just was spiraling. But at
the end of the day, like, I am so grateful that I got
(20:17):
this interview. It did what itneeded to do. You know, I
got this new show. We're tryingto get it on and pop in.
They're giving me these big artists.I haven't talked to someone as big as
Billie Eilish yet. I am grateful. I don't want to come off like
I'm not grateful, but it's justone of those like politics as usual,
you know, it's just I guessstuff that comes with the industry. And
it did have me thinking about theartist almost a little bit too, Like
(20:41):
you know, here I am acreative or creator, and I'm just a
little annoyed because something I put mytime and work into is getting water done
and set water down and like youknow, semi controls. So yeah,
that annoys me. But like I'mlike, imagine how some of these artists
feel that are you know, likeBilly islandish and like other artists that are
like super talented that you know, want to put out these bodies of work
(21:03):
or they have a creative like visualfor themselves, or you know, a
plan and their team is like that'swhack. We actually are gonna have you
do this, or we're gonna cutall this shit out. We're gonna cut
half these songs out. This isactually cooler. We want you to sound
more like this. You know,it just gets it gets deeper and deeper.
Like imagine how they feel. Somepeople actually need to listen to their
(21:25):
team because they're actually garbage and theirteam, my know, was best for
them. Like it's amazing that theyeven are on the way they're on.
So I'm not saying that's for everyone, but I just want to vent about
that. But I am grateful. If you haven't watched my Billy edgnfew,
go do that, hope. ButI'll get in trouble for this. I'm
(21:45):
like, I probably should not bespeaking on this, but I'm on a
vet man. I remember I waswatching Angie Martinez on this like Radio slash
Women. I think it's like Women'sHistory Month or something. She was on
a panel and she was just talkingabout how like, you know, you
just need to enjoy your career becauseand I guess this works for everyone,
but like especially in this industry,Like you know, you get somewhere and
(22:06):
you're like, I want this thing, and you know it looks nice and
shiny over there, and then youget it and then it's like not what
it was you thought it was gonnabe, so now you want this other
thing. You know, like you'reconstantly wanting more and wanting to be in
another place. And that's fine anddandy, but like you really need to
like enjoy where you're at in themoment. And I think I got a
little bit of that, Like I'mwhere this show is going. I'm so
(22:27):
excited and like exactly like bitch. At the of the day, I'm talking
to Billie Eilish like that's so dope. In my kitchen, like it's crazy.
The zoom me to bees are socrazy to me because like I'm like
washing dishes or like maybe I'm ina bad mood. I'm like in bed,
but like, oh, let mego talk to this Grammy Award winning
(22:47):
artists real quick and I in mylittle kitchen and then like go back to
normal life like that. I stillkept up my head around that, like
I'm still very much like so happyto be here and it still freaks me
out that these things are happening. But yeah, I just I don't know.
I thought about her quote because it'salways gonna be something, right,
Are you always gonna be wanting moreor wishing things for another way and they
(23:08):
will be. So I think Ijust need to like chill out and take
a step back and be grateful. And I am always am, but just
a little I don't know, alittle side story for you guys. Next
time, I was like, Inever want to hear an artist say I'm
tired of these people ask me thesame questions. Bitch's your team. It's
your team making me asking the samequestions, because when I wanted to ask
(23:30):
a different question, it got gotout. Not talking about Billie in general,
but just I mean, not talkingabout her specifically, just in general,
just like y'all hear our side Okay, y'all the listeners, you get
to watch these interviews. It's alittle look inside our world on our end.
Okay, but that's it. Thanksfor listening to me. Then this
(23:53):
is Today in the Bay with yourhosts and Jelina Bruh. I am so
hyped the WNBA is coming to theBay Area. Let's motherfucking go. I
(24:18):
love this. I saw a coupleweeks ago. You know, there are
some rumors that Chase Center was kindof talking about it happening. And when
I saw that, I mean Iwas hopeful, but I didn't think,
Oh, they signed on the dottedline, because it is official the new
team. They will be playing atChase Center here in San Francisco and they're
also going to be practicing in Oakland. There is an official name for the
(24:40):
team yet, but they are planningthat whole rollout and hoping. I guess
they're going to release it soon, but we can expect the team to start
in the league by twenty twenty five. If you haven't followed them yet on
Instagram at WNBA Golden State, theyhave a rollout video Like obviously the Warriors
are like really supporting it. SteveKerr, I just think this is so
dope. Like I've been talking aboutand being really passionate about women's sports in
(25:06):
general on the come up, Ithink we are very much we're seeing something
special, Like women's sports viewership ison the rise, and this is just
huge. The fact that it's happeningin the Bay Area and like Chase Center
and the Warriors are the ones thatmade it happen makes me really proud to
be from the Bay Area. Ican't wait to support this team. Shoot,
(25:26):
I'm like, y'all need an ingame host, anyone from the WNBA's
listening WNBA Golden State, I'll letyou, girl. I don't know that
would be a lot to put onmy plate because Sea Dove's season starting.
You guys know, I'm an ingame host for the G League Warriors,
and that season is starting in November. I mean, they're not gonna be
playing twenty twenty five, so Igot time. I did already look into
it. I think I already signedup for the like how you could apply
(25:49):
for jobs. They have like acertain website. So I'm gonna play with
that a little more because I dogot time. But G League I am
main game host for the G LeagueWarriors team out in Santa Cruz and season
is starting November tenth, next sometimenext month. I actually need to give
my job my schedule for that too, so I'm putting a lot on my
(26:10):
play. But anyways, I wouldlove to be a part of the WNBA
team if possible, So we're gonnamanifest that. That's the next thing we're
manifesting. But right now, weare just proud for the expansion women's sports
happening in the Bay Area. Thisis huge. I got more details about
this at wal ninety nine dot com. Other things happened in the Bay Area.
Gas being too motherfucking expensive. Ohmy god. I was about to
(26:33):
have a full on breakdown at thegas station the other day, Like I
