Yavi and Benida algo Ernavor. Tim Walls, Governor, how are you,
first of all, Tim Walls on the line for zero
(00:42):
O five point seven? How are you, sir?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I'm well, Orlando.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Thank you for having me on and thank for your
listeners to to give me an opportunity to make our
case why you still got time to vote in Georgia
and how important it.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Is absolutely, Governor, can we talk a little bit about,
you know, highlighting you know, the the importance of of
going out to vote. You know, it's it's a mess.
Is that you know, specifically for the Hispanic or Latino
community here in Atlanta is so important you know for
voting in this election and how you know, how is
your campaign reaching out to encourage them to participate.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, we've been out there and I just want folks.
You know, you've got till seven pm. You know, bring
a photo idea. If you're trying to get there, to
get to vote, you can go to iwill vote dot com,
slash GA. Look, it matters. This is your power. There's
folks out there that want to take that power. And
in this campaign, it couldn't be clear. We have Kamala
Harris out there trying to unite the country, focusing on
the middle class and especially for the Hispanic community, making
(01:33):
the case that you are the fabric of our states
in our country. And on the other hand, you have
Donald Trump blaming every problem on the Hispanic community. And
I in Georgia. You know how this works. One or
two votes through precinct could win this whole thing. So
I know, folks are busy, they're driving home from work,
they're tired.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
It doesn't take long.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
And if you get in line, if you're in line
at seven o'clock, they will keep the polls open until
you vote.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
And this really matters.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
If you're concerned about health care, if you're concerned about
gun violence, if you're concerned about home ownership or prices
at the grocery store. Vice President Harris has provided a
vision forward where all of us are in this and
and Donald Trump chose to close out his campaign by disrespecting,
disrespecting our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico, and continuing to
(02:19):
go down a very dark path. So I would encourage
folks get out there are voting is safe, it's secure,
it's going to matter, and Georgia is a place that
can make a difference.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
I love, I love, I love what I'm hearing. Governor,
question for you, you know, talking about this this controversial
comment you know about Puerto Ricans, me being Puerto Rican myself.
You know, I'd love to know, you know, how would
you guys ensure the respect and fairness and discussions, you know,
surrounding Puerto Rico and support you know, policies that can
help the ivan's recovery and prosperity.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
You know that's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Well, first of all, you were understanding and being very
clear about it. Puerto Rican's our American citizens. They pay taxes,
they participate and sign up and serve in our military
at almost a higher rate than anyone else. They're fabric
of our country. And so you'll never hear us disrespect,
but we also recognize Hurricane Marie and the recovery. We
have to stay until the island's recovered. We have to
rebuild their electrical grid, and we have to make sure
(03:10):
the Puerto Ricans living in the States here have opportunities,
whether it's opportunities to get small businesses off the ground,
to give some of those agendas, because we know this
is a community that can thrive, but we also know
that historically there's been barriers put up. And we also
know that your listeners out there at the Spanic community
cares about their kids, cares they get a good education,
cares that they're safe from gun safety. You want to
(03:32):
know that you can have home ownership, I think our
twenty five thousand dollars down payment, and then also want
to know that there's our seniors that we're going to
use Medicare to help, that we can care for our
parents and their homes if that's what we need to do.
So I think we're offering an agenda, and I think
Donald Trump made it very clear.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
How he feels about this many community.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
He's always done that, and so I ask folks, you
may not agree on every issue, but you will never
see disrespect from Kamala Harris myself for our administration and
members of this community will be part of that administration
and governor.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Another good topic that I would love to touch with you.
You know, briefly, you know Latino voices are underrepresented in
many parts you know of the government. What specific steps
will you and your administration take to ensure Hispanic communities
are not only heard, but also have a seat at
the table. You know, when it's time to shape the
policies of this nation.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
That's right, and Orlando, You're right, and this is not
after the fact, this is before the policies are done
that members are there. I'm encouraged that we're seeing it
in Minnesota. I know we're seeing it across the country,
more members of the community getting out there, running for
office and being elected. We know we do better when
our legislators and our governors and folks that are commissioners
or secretaries.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Look like the community.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And I think the one thing is is from appointing
and making sure there's representation. I know in Minnesota it
was critical to me to appoint the first Hispanic judge
to Appeals Court to make sure that we were having
represented all levels of government. I know Kamala Harris has
always focused on that. She's made some of the biggest guides,
and we'll continue to do that. The community should demand that,
the community should expect to be there, and commonlo will
(05:06):
make sure it happens.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
And Governor talking about topics like economic support, you know
many Latino families face economic challenges that have you know,
only increased in the recent years. How would your administration
work to provide economic support and job opportunities that uplift
Latino family, you know, families and their communities.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Aiming tax cuts at the middle class, chial tax credits
for starts on that universal pre K, making sure you
got a place for your kids to get off to
a good start. And then I think the agenda that
the Vice president put out, making sure that there's forgivable
loans and grants for business startups, making sure there's the
fifty thousand dollars tax credits to get those business going,
making sure that the twenty five thousand dollars down payment
(05:45):
assistance to have home ownership is aimed at that community.
And then pathways opening up. We did it in Minnesota
and she's proposing it for the entire federal government, making
sure we take down some of these degree requirements where
people have the skills to be able to get these
jobs in government, where we need to be there making
it easier for them to get that. And that means
you've got health care, that means that you've got a pension,
(06:05):
that means that you get a living and a housing
wage where you can buy your home.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
So this community is going to be critical. We know this.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Look were Donald Trump is talking about separating families. He's
talking about ripping the guts out of our economy by
destroying many of the folks.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
And this is not an issue. We can secure our border.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
We have a bipartisan border bill that was strong and
fair that we can pass that, but also recognize there
needs to be a path for citizenship, not going to
destroy folks who are here, working to give them that
path to there to get to where they need to.
So I just encourage the community. You've got an hour
or so to get in line, get in line and
vote for a better future. Don't let them take this
from you.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Super important, very important, especially in the Gwinette County where
I believe there was something that just got passed through
the Supreme Court in the area of Gwenette where people
can still have the opportunity to vote after seven pm,
so that I think that's very important to let the
community know you can still go out and volve. Sid out,
got it. And just to wrap this up, Governor, you
(07:04):
know what specific steps would you take in your first
ninety days to build the trust in diverse communities, particularly
those who may feel overlooked by previous administrations.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Yeah, and make sure and I know the Vice President
said it and it'll be her decision, but she talked
about diversifying the folks that she appoints to these positions.
I think making sure we're in the community. You can't
just come to the community and you're asking for votes.
You need to be there afterwards and make sure you're delivering.
And I think that's the incredible opportunity we have here.
I think we know how Donald Trump's going to act
because that's how he did. We've seen more diversity under
(07:33):
the Biden administration. Vice President Heiss is our own leader.
She will take that to another level and that's what
we need to do.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Thank you so much, Governor Tim Wallas. I really appreciate it.
And one last word, for a Hispanic community here in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Well, you're valued seeing and you're a big part of
this country. So make sure that vote is to keep
that going. And grateful to all of you, and we're
going to win this thing. Thanks Orlando, thank you so much.
