Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, either Detroit Wheels.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hello are you there?
Speaker 1 (00:03):
I am here? How about you guys?
Speaker 3 (00:07):
We're here man, how are you?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Oh there? He is the man of the hour. Derek
Saint Holmes, How are you guys? Get you guys ready
to rock this Saturday night?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
We are, We are ready to rock this Saturday night.
Born to Rock and Roll.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
They've got John Bobby from JJM Management on the line
along with the legendary Derek Saint Holmes from the Ted
Nugent Band, and they're going to be a part of
the love for Buddy Miles this coming Saturday night. Michael
Geido Theater and Dearborn. I guess there are still some
tickets available. Last year was almost sold out, so I'm
(00:44):
expecting a big, a big show this upcoming Saturday night.
But first off, we got to start with a big
congratulations to you, Derek. I saw the video Ted NuGen
put up of you last night. Tell me about this
Hall of Fame rock and Roll Fantasy Camp Award.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, yeah, Well, you know, I work with David Fishoff's
Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, and I work with a
lot of bands and a lot of people, and we
we take you know, CEOs of their own company, and
they sign up and we put them in groups of
four or five or six, and in three days we
put them together in a band and that at the
(01:27):
third night, they're playing the whiskey of Go Go. So
but wasn't that Wasn't that sweet of Ted? I mean,
I was totally surprised because I walked up there to
get my award. You know how people get an award
and you you you thank him and you tell them
how much you love it, and then all of a sudden,
(01:48):
Eddie Trunk goes Derek Holder on turn around. I turned
around on these big, huge jumbo trons. Here comes Ted.
I was blown away. That was very sweet to him.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Awesome. Yeah, well, you guys are kind of celebrating this
year because it's the fiftieth anniversary of Stranglehold, and there's
no bigger MotorCity album than that, I don't think. So,
you know, I applaud you and I congratulate you on
that incredible achievement alone.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, okay, thank you, thank you, Doug. I appreciate it. Yep,
that's a rocker. That's une right there. Baby.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
So guys, John, tell me when did the rehearsal start
for this and how do these rehearsals usually go, Well, these.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Rehuals go pretty good.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
We get everybody gets together. We're gonna go with Mark tomorrow,
Kasa and we are. We have a studio that we're
gonna get into and get the guys off set up
in there and then they I mean they know all
the stuff hands down, you know, backwards, fronward, upside down.
So it's more like a jam snatch three guys because
you guys are all professionals, and they get it done,
and it's it's great because it's fun because everybody gets
(03:00):
together off there. We laugh, we talk, they jam. It's
good to see those guys get together. And then it's
all just fun games. And then on Saturday night it's
just nothing but business and it's just a great show
and a great tribute to the buddy Miles himself from
his career, long lasting career that he had. And then
it's great to have. Like I said, I was loving
it because you know from you know, being from Detroit
(03:22):
and having you know, Kenny Olsen, Jimmy McCarty and Derek
up there on stage together doing blues. Man. I mean,
you don't get an ending better than that.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well, it was special for me.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Called Detroit rock city, it's not called Cleveland rock city,
you know, absolute the home of rock and roll and yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Well it was special for me, and I think it
was special for everybody. How about you, Derek. I mean,
you've played now with Kenya and Jimmy kind of separately
and together, but uh, do you still get that goose bump,
you know, going up your arm when you're playing with
these guys.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Absolutely. I mean these guys are you know, Detroit fellow freuter's,
you know, and we have busted our fannies to be
good at our craft and to be good in the
music business. And I mean I saw Jimmy is one
of my idols. I saw Jimmy when I was sixteen,
and I saw him playing that guitar and I thought, wow,
(04:17):
I gotta do that. So anytime he came around, I
went and saw him. And I followed him in Cactus,
I follow him in everything. So yeah, I'm a huge
fan and i'm and he's so gracious and so nice
to me. It's just fun to have one of your
idols be your friend. And Kenny is awesome. I met
(04:38):
Kenny down here in Nashville, and Kenny is a riot
to play with. Good man, great player, and we're just
going to have a blast.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
He is he fills in all the little holes. You
could just see him noodling and working away there. But
you know, you got to admit, guys, it is special
to have Jim McCarty of all people who play with
Buddy Miles in the Buddy Miles Express. I mean, that's
just historical, if you ask me, I mean, it doesn't
make much better.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Than that, Yeah, it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
And they have Jimmy Hendricks produced Jim McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, well, Jimmy used to talk about some stories about
Jimmy Hendricks and uh, you know, I mean you just
sit there and you're mesmerized by the whole thing. Derek,
what your setlists look like this year? Is it a
little different from last year.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I didn't get a chance to look at it yet.
I think most of the songs are going to be
the same, so I think we're changing up about six songs,
so it should be a little bit different. But yeah,
that's what we'll probably go over when I get in there.
I think I'm coming up there tomorrow, so that's pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah. Yeah, And we did add too. When we have
Bernard Party on drums and we have his chambers and
they're gonna do like a little drum off too, is it
gonna be really spectacular because those two guys right there,
I mean I was looking up some bile of Bernard.
I mean he's played with James Brown, Aretha Franklin. I
(06:13):
mean he's you know, all over the steely Dan. I
mean he's been all over the math. You know.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Well man, he's played with Chuck Beck. He made us the.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Famous Yeah, I know, anybody who's anybody who's come up
to me and said, my god, you've got these two
guys together like you only see them, you know, like
at drum clinics together. You never see them performing together.
So you know where we had the trifectave guitars last year,
we got the duet of drums this year.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yes, we do, we.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Do, Yeah, we do.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
So, John that being said, what's a take to assemble?
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Some musicians like this. I mean it's got to take
more than money, that's for sure. They gotta love Buddy Miles, Yes.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
And it takes.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
It takes a lot of dedications. And my hat's off
to Boo O'Connell and Mark Coston for this we you
know boo. Mark started this last year, well two years
ago pretty much for the first of the first of
all we did, and he was talking about the musicians
that he wanted to get in there, and he was
always been working with Derek on different events, and I
work with Derek, and so he incorporated Derek on this,
(07:21):
and then he had Lance Lopez come in and then
I was mentioning, like, hey man, we should get an
all Jimmy in there, and he was like yeah, like
you know, and then we talked about getting Jimmy in there,
and then I'm like, and then I will talk with
Kenny one night. Key's like why I played with Buddy
on his last album, And so then we incorporated Kenny
and then you know, Mark went out there and gall
this together and such a you know, it's a well
(07:42):
oil machine for this thing. I mean hecuse like, even
like last year with our dress rehearsal was like great,
everybody's kind of going through the motions, and then it
was like the show was like boom boom boom after
each song and everybody's not a great and we got
you know, we got Peter Keys coming back from Leonard Skinner.
We have you know, March's band Slight Return. So it
(08:03):
takes a lot of to put in this effort to
get everybody because these are all musicians that are touring
on the road and you know, trying to assemble, you know,
for one night of rehearsal and one night of a
show to make sure that everybody's dates lining up. So
it takes a lot of work. So hats off to
Mark and Boo on that, and hats off to you
because this is this is show is going to be
in March, and March is going to be fifty years
(08:25):
for you on the radio, my friend. So big congratulations
with you on that.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Oh well, thank you guys for that. Yeah, no, I
appreciate it. And uh, it's just exciting.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
You know.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Henry Brown is going to be here in a couple
of weeks with Experience Hendricks and we've got him, the
singer of Experience Hendricks. We've got him on this show.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
So then also Toy and then Toy Lousey from Santana
and they're gonna be doing duets up there together too.
So yeah, it's an all star cast up there. And
I mean, if you.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
We got a legendary Texas rocker man, Lance Lopez. He's
gonna be playing guitar.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Is that that gun Slinger from last year? Everybody was
calling him the gun Slinger.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I've known him for a long time. He's a rock
and boy ass.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
He is so badass, I.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Will tell you because the fiftieth anniversary for everybody. I mean,
at the end of the night, we might just have
to play a song called Strength.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Oh and I'm gonna get my guitar and put it
on and play with you. What do you think of that?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
I think everybody deserves it.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I always told Derek I want Derek to play live
it up because I'm gonna bring my whistle with me.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Well, I think it's gonna be another fun, exciting night
and really truly a musical night for the Motor City.
I hope people get a chance to come out and
see this. The weather is broke, so you know we're
gonna have some pretty good weather, and you know we've
got some seats available, so I hope people will grab
their tickets even if it gave them the night of
(10:06):
the show, and come on out and check out.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yeah, tickets will be Yeah, tickets will be available still
the night at the box office. And on top of it,
it's a beautiful venue.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
It is.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I mean there's a great thea, they're great seating, there's
not a bad seat in the house, and the stage
is great. I mean we got we got a couple
of VIP orchestra seats still left. I mean, you want
to be up in front and you know, see everything
you know put away from you. We got tickets available
for that. We have a meet and greet package. So
it's and it's a beautiful venue. So people are really
(10:38):
gonna love it. Espousanism in there is just phenomenal. Every
musician sounds great. So yeah, it's gonna be a great time.
We're gonna have a full bar there, so if anybody
want some cocktails, we got the Red Rock or Brewing
Company coming down with Shamie Hagar's beer. So it's gonna
be a rocking night that night. And like I said,
man celebrating fifty years of the first Ted News you
(10:59):
know which up there, fifty years with you and then
about two hundred and fifty years of NonStop musicians of
help there with that. So it's gonna be phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
All right, you guys, fell Listen, fellas, I gotta get
going because I'm getting ready to make a short video
for this show, and I gotta get that going so
I can send it to him.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
All right, yes you do.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
I can't wait to see y'all. I got a rock
but I will see you guys this weekend.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Come on out all right, cock to locked and ready
to rock, as your old buddy used to say. So
we'll see you there. And thank you John Bobby, and
thank you Derek Saint Holmes for checking in with Detroit's
wheels and uh, let's do it for the love of
Buddy Miles this Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
You got buddy, I'll see him the graduations again on
both your Derek for fifty years of strangle and Doug
fifty years of rock and earwaves.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
All right, thank you guys,
