Speaker 1 (00:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Hi, they're Detroit Wheels.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hi, Douglas is Caleb?
Speaker 3 (00:07):
How you doing, Caleb?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
How the heck are you, buddy good? I'm good.
Speaker 4 (00:13):
Merry Christmas, Happy holidays, and uh it's good to talk.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
To you, my friend.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 4 (00:19):
Merry Christmas, Caleb, of course from the Gasoline Gypsies.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
And I might add, by the way.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
One of the very first bands to uh, you know,
be voted on and appear on the w LZ first
MotorCity Rocks album. So I always want to thank you
for that, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
That's right, thank you. We still hear about that all
the time.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Your your your biggest song on our biggest album.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
And you know what, Caleb, I I during Black Friday
record store Day, I saw that a couple of stores
who had you know, had them hidden in the back room,
had pulled him out for record store Days. So over
at Village Vinyl and in Sterly Heights and also at
Rock of Ages over there with Bob so in Gardens.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Very cool.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
So you can still find him out there.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
But you guys have plenty of new music out yourself.
It's been a busy year for you guys. The Gasoline
Gypsies Caleb, tell me a little bit about the music first.
I know you got a show coming up, and we'll
get to.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
That, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
So you know, we've been just this year we kind
of dialed back the touring and being out on the
road and playing shows and really focused on finally getting
some new music out there. I'm kind of old to
us but new to a lot of fans who've been
playing it out for quite a while now, and decided
it was time to put.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Some recordings together. So we just released.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Four song EP, gravel Roads, and that's doing really well
as far as things go for us. Our one song,
Mud and the Water has really taken off on the socials,
and our Spotify numbers are growing around that one quite
a bit right now. We've released a music video for
(02:07):
that not too long ago, and that's close to edging on.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
A million views on Facebook, definitely getting.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Up there on YouTube as well. So that's that's pretty cool,
exciting stuff. And I'm actually in the studio right now,
take a little break. We're recording our next four song
EP and working on some songs today. So lots of
cool new stuff coming out. I really genuinely feel like
we kind of have found our sound as far as
(02:35):
this new the newest lineup of musicians. You know, we
added a keyboard player not too long ago, and.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
The four of us have been playing together for.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
I think eight years or so, now seven years something
like that.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
But it's wild how long it takes some times that
I feel like they really finally dialed it in and
found a sound that you know, the songs we've really
enjoyed playing and that people seem to enjoy as well.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Well.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I really enjoyed the videos, by the way, really well done.
Whoever is shooting your videos is doing a great job
with that. You've got plenty of them up on the
website for people to check out. But yeah, I've noticed
that your fan base is really growing. Every time I
bring up the name of the band, they've seen you
or they've got your CD already. So, you know, congratulations
(03:21):
on that. I know it's been you know, it hasn't
been that many years, but you guys have built yourself up,
you know, and doing it you know the way you
have to do it today, and that's through social media
first and getting out there and working hard and doing.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
A lot of touring.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
You guys did a lot over the past couple of years,
so I can see why you may want to take
a little bit of a break. But yeah, the sound
of the Gasoline Gypsies has really you know, it's it's
like a sharp pencil now, you know, before you're you know,
it was kind of you know, as as folks rock,
(04:00):
is this Americana rock now? I mean it's dialed in
whatever you guys want to call it.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
It's it's gypsy rock to me.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
And yeah, I'll take that.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
You've you've done a good job with it. But a
big show coming up. Holiday show at the Token Lounge
this coming Saturday on the twenty first. Tell me a
little bit about what you got planned for the show. Now,
have you been working on any Christmas songs?
Speaker 5 (04:29):
You know, we were we were working on a Christmas
song a little bit with the you know, we had
an opportunity to hopefully be it was going to be
a special on the History Channel with our friends from
the Greenway Outdoors and that unfortunately kind of fell through.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
So no, we haven't.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
We haven't really been working on too many Christmas songs.
Just honestly, more than anything, we've been out of the
loop as far as playing for the most part, and
we've just been really working our butts off in the studio,
so we were kind of the past couple of weeks
have just been really focusing in on getting ready to
sound good live again. Not that we would have sounded bad,
but you know, it's those little things that start to
(05:05):
slip up a little.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Bit when you when you're not out gigging as much
as we used to.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
So I did I realize you took that many days off?
I mean you took you boyd you take the whole
summer off?
Speaker 5 (05:15):
And then right, well, I mean we did, we did
some shows, you know, and but the past that I
would say two or three months, we really haven't been
focusing on yet just getting some music out there and uh,
you know, grow in our fan base virtually more than
anything else.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, So I mean we did that. We did.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
We are bringing back an old song.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
That I'm really excited to be playing again that we
let sit on the back burner for quite a while,
and now that we've grown as musicians and songwriters and composers,
I guess more than anything, Uh, we're put a new
twist on it and we're very excited. A lot of
people requested every gig that we play. So pretty pumped
about that.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
So what so what song is that? Now?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
That one is.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
One more taste, So we released that I think too.
All them's back and me personally is one of my
very favorite guitar parts that have ever written in The
lyrics still stand stand strong on their own today. So
very excited. That's that's been one that, like I said,
I think it's every show pretty much, somebody hollers that
one out and wants to hear it.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
So I'm pretty pumped about that.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Oh they don't yell out free bird?
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, yeah, I would tell you the jokes that we.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Have for that one, but.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Bands have to be prepared for free birds.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
That's right, That's right.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
All right.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
So you mentioned you you added some new members.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Tell me a little bit about who who's because you
got Steve and Joe right, Neil.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yep, Neil, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
And so our newest member is Connor Connor Williams on
the keyboards. I think he was playing with us a
little bit the last time that we spoke, but it's
definitely become a bigger part of our sound now and
it really helps. It's just it's kind of like the
glue that holds everything together that we didn't really realize
(07:03):
we were missing, especially especially live. You know, we've always
thrown a little bit of organ or piano in our
recordings just for you know, purposes of filling.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Out mixes in the studio.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
But now he's with us every show live and you know,
every once in a while have a solo. He's an
amazing keyboard player. He'll rip a solo or two, but
he's really just holding everything together in the background or
it's wonderful.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
And he also is a really good singer.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So now you know there's live in.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Four part harmonies where there used to be three parts sometimes,
So it's really cool filling out our sounds the big time.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
So you mentioned you're working on at least, you know,
getting some stuff down on paper for some new music.
I would imagine you're going to, you know, incorporate more
keyboards into it. But what's inspiring you these days? You know,
like what happened in twenty twenty four that we're gonna
hear in five.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yeah, So like a lot of these songs were written
a year or two ago. There is one new one
that I'm very excited about that's actually the one we're
working on as we speak.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
It's called hard Living, and it's kind of like the
working man's anthem.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
I guess you would you would say it's just about,
you know, all the things that everybody's going through no
matter where you sit, you know, just higher grocery bills,
higher gas prices, you know, everybody picking up a second
job to make ends meet.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
It's kind of kind of what that song is about.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
You know.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
There's a little bit of hope in it, like I
like to put in all the songs, but it's me personally.
I think it's definitely the best recording we've put down.
It's probably one of the very best songs.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
It was.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Been getting into co writing a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
I wrote this one with my friend Abe and man,
I am just so stoked for people to hear this one.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
It's it's a special song.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
We had a little Is that a little different for you, Caleb,
to to express yourself with somebody else.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Yeah, you know, I've always been a pretty big stickler,
especially when it comes to lyrics. I'm very very picky,
so finding the right person to write with can be
a little bit tough for me. But yeah, I co
wrote this one. With Abe and on our last ep,
my good friend Alex holy Cross I co wrote Broken Arrow,
(09:29):
which is out and available now you can find that one.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
So yeah, it's got to be the right person.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
But it definitely helps get to get a different perspective
every once in a while. You know, sometimes my obsessive
nature with the lyrics goes the opposite way and puts
me in a hole, you know, and it can help
having somebody else to, you know, push me in one
direction or the other or vice versa.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
So you guys are still based on a poor huron.
Is everybody still living.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
There or no?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
No, actually none of us live im for.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
What a surprise?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah right, it's we're all in.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
The thumb still.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I just moved up for the winter and renting a
place on the.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Lake in Forestville, so that's pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Our practice rehearsal space that we built is in Memphis,
and uh, you know, we got Sterling Heights, Ferndale and
Oak Park, so kind of all over but still in
the thumb still about everybody's about an hour away from
each other at the most.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Okay, all right, so.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
With Christmas coming up here in just a week, I
try to believe what do you what do you got,
What do you got planned?
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What?
Speaker 2 (10:41):
What does Caleb do for the holidays.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Well, I've got a very big family. I'm one of
nine kids, so bouncing around.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Yeah, the two different parents places, and you know my fiance,
we always hit up her house too, So luckily my
the different sides of my family kind of picked different days.
So you know, it's Christmas Eve a day, it's Christmas
with my mom at my brother's house, and then you
know my fiance's folks as well. And I always do
the at least something I'm you know, I do a
(11:13):
lot of wild game stuff, so I always cook some
kind of fancy meal to take over to one place
or another. And yeah, it's chilling out and hanging out
and getting ready for the show and once is over,
just taking a little time all of us with our
families should be good.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Well, congratulations on all of the hard work, all of
the new music and the upcoming show this Saturday, the
twenty first at the Token Lounge, the Holiday show with
the Gasoline Gypsies, some new music, some old music, and
I take it you'll have your your merchandise for sale
for stocking stuffers out there.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
As well.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Right, Yeah, that's right, and we actually are doing something
really special, you know, talking about this new music. Some
of our old music that definitely wasn't up to snuff anymore.
We've actually removed from the streaming services and people were
a little more bummed about that than we thought they
might be, and they like some of that classic stuff.
So we've got these really cool new USB cards that
(12:10):
we loaded with literally everything that we've ever released. I
think it's something like even some tracks that we have,
and I think it's something like ninety seven.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Songs or something that's gonna be on there.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
That'll be yeah, available only at the show.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
We've printed a hundred of them.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
They're gonna be number of their.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Special editions, so we're pretty stoked about that. People still
get to still get to hear the old.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
There you go. Ye, Now that's a Christmas present that's
not a stock Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
Yeah, that's the best Christmas card you can get, this
little USB card, So hopefully people people like them.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, Caleb, it's always great talking to you.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
You know, The Gasoline Gypsy is one of our favorite bands,
So we're excited for you guys for the holidays and
for the upcoming New Year, and we wish you nothing
but the best of success.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
My friend.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Hey, thank you. Always great talking with you, Doug. I
appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
All right, Well, you guys have a great show on Saturday.
We'll see you there and on behalf of all of
us from Detroit's Wheels. Merry Christmas you guys.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yeah, Merry Christmas you guys as well.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Thanks a lot, man, all.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Right, Caleb, thanks for rocking Detroit Wheels.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Yep, thank you.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Bye bye.
